3. National Post “journalist” Graeme Hamilton defames Robert Spencer as “alt-right,” refuses to retract

Graeme Hamilton’s National Post story is so sloppily written that it refutes itself. Hamilton writes melodramatically that “in the darker corners of the web…alt-right voices cling to the flimsiest evidence to suggest Canadian authorities are covering up what was actually an Islamist attack.”

One of those alleged “alt-right voices” is me: “Robert Spencer of the Jihad Watch web site drew on courtroom sketches to imply that the man who was charged Tuesday was not the same one arrested Monday.” I never said that: here is the original post, you can see for yourself. All I said was that he was bald in arrest photos and had a full head of hair in courtroom sketches, suggesting that Canadian authorities were covering something up.

But did I say they were covering up what Hamilton calls an “Islamist attack”? No. In fact, I said that it was “likely that this was not a jihad attack,” and Hamilton even quotes me saying this.

So he quotes me saying this was not a jihad attack in an article in which he uses me as Exhibit A in a story about how the “alt-right” is claiming this was a jihad attack. That’s not just sloppy journalism. That’s malicious dishonesty.

And then there is the “alt-right” label. I find it odd to be termed “alt-right,” as I’ve been publishing articles and books since the 1990s, and I never heard the term “alt-right” until 2016. I guess I got grandfathered in to the “alt-right” movement. But since this term is usually used to refer to white supremacists and neo-Nazis, I wrote to Hamilton asking for a public retraction and apology.

6. Ayatollah Khamenei: Ignoring Quran Brings Muslims Humiliation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Complying with the Quran brings about development and prosperity in the Islamic society, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said, warning that disobedience to the Muslims’ holy book would result in humiliation and vulnerability.

The failure to comply with the teachings of Quran has made the Islamic countries suffer from underdevelopment and domination of pagans, Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with the participants of the 35th International Quran Competitions in Tehran on Thursday.

Ignoring the Quran will result in vulnerability and “humiliation disease”, the Leader noted, saying the very same diseases has encouraged the US president to brazenly say that some Arab states wouldn’t last a week without US protection.

On Tuesday, US President Donald trump said some countries in the Middle East would not last without US support.

“They wouldn’t be there except for the United States. They wouldn’t last a week. We are protecting them. They have to now step up and pay for what is happening,” Trump said.

Thank you Richard, M., Wrath of Khan, Xanthippa, ML., and a huge cadre of wonderful people who diligently contribute their time and efforts here. Thank you all VERY much.

We have good days and bad days you know, in the fight for the preservation of liberty and classically liberal values. Its a tough go as we are fighting for an imperfect and messy thing. But it is still orders of magnitude better than any utopia religion or leftism offers. So fight on we must. Is there a ludicrous degree of double standard? Its so wide its literally a weapon. But true prevails sooner or later. The question is, how much damage will we all take before that? And the harder we fight now, the less damage will occur all around.

  2. Yes we are fighting for an imperfect and messy thing, but why should it be perfect? Our culture was created by humans, flawed, imperfect and messy humans. During the debate on Independence John Adams said that removing the statement condemning slavery would cause future generations to hate them, Ben Franklin replied that they were humans not Demigods, simple flawed humans trying to midwife a new country under a very large number of disadvantages. (I don’t remember the exact quotes).

This is one of the disadvantages we are now facing, our enemies, the enemies of freedom and condemning our nations, culture and history because the founders and heroes were not perfect. I suspect that our enemies know that there heroes are just as flawed as ours but act as if they aren’t.

    • Yes we are fighting for an imperfect and messy thing …

Never allow the possible to become an enemy of the probable.

Brilliant insight, Richard! While I sincerely believe in the voluntary perfectibility of humanity, this latest round of Social Engineers (e.g., Merkel, Macron, 0bama, Trudeau, etc.) don’t leave me much hope. Then again, this is a task for people not leaders.

SIDEBAR: How fortunate was America to have such strong-minded individuals as its founders?

This Pretense of Perfection™—essay to follow in a year or three—that so many people maintain about “their heroes” (or Gods) seems to be a mainstay for the “blind faith” set. The “God said it, I believe it, that settles it…”, types may well doom us all, except it won’t likely be Bible-thumping Christians sporting that particular brand of fatal eschatological dogma. It’s an entirely other book that they’ll be thwacking

To close, just because physical objects in this universe are inherently flawed does not preclude all conscious beings from pursuing perfection. We owe it to ourselves, if not others.

PS: We humans really don’t deserve dogs. May our stars preserve us if they ever figure this out.
