Let’s hope this is a plot to defang Iran

“US President Donald Trump has approved military strikes in Syria in retaliation for the alleged chemical attack by the Assad government in Douma, near Damascus, last week.

“A short time ago, I ordered the United States Armed Forces to launch precision strikes on targets associated with the chemical weapons capabilities of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad,” Trump said in a televised address from the White House. He added that a combined military operation by the US, the UK and France is already underway in Syria.

  1. This is not about Iran or Hezbollah.Or unfortunately about Zionist Israel. This is about the gas attack on Syrian civilians. It is keeping a punishment for a promise to punish Assad for another chemical attack.Maybe it is also a message to Russia for its bad behavior. But again,it will change nothing.
I am no fan of Trump, but congratulations to Trump for doing what Obama failed to do.

    • God Bless America and all who serve.

Good words from someone who seems to serve in an otherwise odd capacity.

  2. “Let’s hope this is a plot to defang Iran”

I’m getting seriously nervous. What have they done to Donald Trump, what have they got on him. I mean even I understand that it is not Assad who gassed his own people…not then and not now…and I would certainly not suspect Donald Trump’s intelligence to be inferior to my modest brain arsenal !!!

To me it seems the POTUS, instead of cleaning out the Swamp is starting to drown in it.

I know for Israel (which I support nearly unconditionally…so shoot me ! and for the Jewish people which I support unconditionally ! ) there are strategic survival questions in play, but please please please…make up with Putin and Assad – dont drive them further into the arms of corrupt regimes like Iran, Turkey and YES: France and the UK !

    • PS: Merkel – that other corrupt Pastor’s daughter – has apparently announced that Germany will not participate in any air strike on Syria….I wonder what her motivation could be for that, but strongly suspect – on her past form – that her decision, which superficially could seem intelligent and ethical is neither – Merkel does not do “intelligence” nor “ethical”.

      • She won’t get involved for one reason: She already has tons of problems with the various Islamic factions she brought into Germany, including Islamic State. She has Sunnis fighting Shias, the Turks are a major problem and Kurds are now also fighting with the Sunnis.

        • @ Sassy. Good points. What a high price Germany and what they call now the “Bio-Germans” (I kid you not) have to pay for this “Mother Terrorista” to stay in power.

          • And how did Trump manage to bring on board so quickly Britain and France?
Answer: economic leverage through beneficial (lower) trade tariffs or whatever should they comply quickly with the Syria mission.

            • What would you say if I speculated that, in view of past statements from Trump it is Britain and France who brought him on board so quickly?

After all, the hapless Theresa May brought him to the table after her vulgar “Putin-poisoned-the-double-agent” stunt, without any proof other than “the Russians did it because they always do”. He joined, seemingly unquestioningly the “let’s get Putin pack”, formerly led by the execrable Obama.

              • What would you say if I speculated that, in view of past statements from Trump it is Britain and France who brought him on board so quickly?

Dear Rita, I’d have to howl out loud.

We are in agreement throughout so many other areas that this particular instance of negativity is rather odd.

England and France are emblematic of Europe’s very worst pair of danger zones.

In just a very few short years America (or NATO) will have to enter these countries and confiscate their nuclear arsenals.

The upshot (or downside) of this could consume pages of text.

                • That we will, keep that thought in mind when you think about why we may decide to do anything that they support. Moving in and seizing their nukes will be a lot easier if they are friendly before we grab their nukes.

                • No way. They didn’t move before, but they acted now.

Trump used two cards against them: economic leverage re the tariff import issue AND their respective debt to USA re NATO.

Most people don’t understand the magnificent Trump. He’s a business man and his mindset is always in that direction.

        • She won’t get involved for one reason: She already has tons of problems with the various Islamic factions she brought into Germany, including Islamic State. She has Sunnis fighting Shias, the Turks are a major problem and Kurds are now also fighting with the Sunnis.

          Touché, Sassy.

Now, what else could possibly go wrong?!?

    • I, too cannot believe that Assad is stupid enough to use chemical weapons, and on civilians at that. If I were to use such it would ONLY be on combatants as otherwise it is totally stupid propaganda wise seeing as there is far too much media negativity associated with killing civilians by such means nowadays(mass killing civilians was perfectly acceptable(if still a crime) before mass media journalism made everyone aware of it..viz Armenian genocide etc.). However doing so “for the greater good of islam” is absolutely typical of ISIS. Trump is not stupid so I also wonder: “why?”

      • … viz Armenian genocide etc.

        Dear Michelle,

If you have not already done so, please consider reading, “The Forty Days of Musa Dagh”. I believe a film version is available as well.

I’ve laid flowers at Tsitsernakaberd (the ‘Fortress of Swallows’ genocide memorial) in Yerevan.

Armenia’s own precession of Nazi Germany’s Holocaust is one of this world’s best kept (and most horrifying) secrets.

        Thank you for mentioning it.

    • I’ve got a sinking feeling about what is happening in Washington. I don’t believe the premise for going to war with Syria at all.
All I see is the deep State finally getting what it wanted – destruction of Syria – part of the Arab Spring initiated by the obama clinton cabal on behalf of the Muslim Brotherhood -oil money.
I’m really saddens to see the scale of corruption in Washington, how the deep state have totally trampled on the voting public of the USA and forced a President to bend to their will.
Not only is it sad, it is dangerously reckless.
Democracy in the USA appears to be a charade.

      • I’ve got a sinking feeling about what is happening in Washington.

        Bwahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!

        • Of all the people that comment, I’ve always found you’re probably the most astute, exception of myself although we are strongly aligned.

This is a major Trump psych-op war being carried out on multiple fronts (see The Art of the Deal).

Iran will be easy to take down, it’s been ongoing since Trump’s visit to Saudi Arabia. The big problem is Russia.

Yesterday, Trump offered an olive branch to Russia when he mentioned the U.S.A. is the greatest economic power in history and he wants to be friends with Russia.

Yes, Putin is stuck between a rock and a hard place. He knows he’s in a losing situation but how to save face and seem as a hero before his electorate while maintaining his assets in Syria (aka Latakia, Gasprom…)?

That’s where we’re at now. Same story as Kim Jung Un who understood.

Thus, I figure Putin is in a panic and wants to prevent Kim Jung Un from agreeing to denuclearization in upcoming meeting with Trump. But it’s not going to work. Kim wants to be part of the winning Big Boys’ Club and knows Trump can wipe out what he wants in NoKo, and he also sees Putin’s current miserable situation.

People look at individual trees in the forest, but not at the forest as a whole.

BTW: We still haven’t seen Assad. When we do, study the body language.

          • Of all the people that comment, I’ve always found you’re probably the most astute, exception of myself although we are strongly aligned.

I’ll take that as a compliment. Thank you, Sassy. Please know that I enjoy reading your contributions as well.

    • The constant drum beat of Russia Collusion has place DJT in the position that he has no choice but to bomb Syrian position that are connected with either chemical weapons of the production of other weapons. If he didn’t the publicity campaign against him would come close to driving him from office and might provide enough cover for an impeachment attempt. In times like these you have to consider internal politics as much as you have to consider international politics.

Is this a scheme to damage and hopefully disarm Iran? I don’t know, I do know that this has to be on his mind, just as he had to take China and North Korea into consideration when he made this decision. This may be a warning to everyone who is working against the US to BACK OFF.

All we can do is wait and pray. The confrontation with China and North Korea is coming some time this year and we all know that Putin, Assad, Erdogan and Iran will take advantage of that move to start some kind of trouble in the Middle East.

        • What do YOU think?

Ideas, thoughts, concepts … inventions, scripts, musical compositions, song lyrics, stories, haiku, prose, poetry … insanity.

          Any questions?

        • I think the world is getting ready for WWIII to start, probably some time this year. Remember nothing is happening in a vacuum so think globally when you are looking for the reasons for any decision.

It doesn’t make the decision any more comprehensible but it helps you understand why you don’t understand.

  3. Playing devil’s advocate – I looked at the ”Syrian Army Uncovers Chemical Lab in Eastern Ghouta” video.

If you were in that place, wouldn’t you be wearing gloves when picking up bottles and dipping your hands in the chlorine bags? Also, powder-form chlorine has a very powerful smell. If it’s not chlorine, what is it and why aren’t they wearing a face mask?

      • But do you still want it on your hands?
There are other issues also that I noticed, but it’s bedtime.

        • Depends on how intelligent you are, never underestimate the stupidity of many supposedly intelligent people.

Having said that no I wouldn’t.

          • Thank You. It is said when viewing a video, first mute the sound and observe.

I agree, it’s not Assad. No Assad to be seen anywhere.

Without offense, the majority of humans can be led toward an opinion or a conviction.
This is where it’s so important to develop our critical thinking.

In a previous post, we saw two videos of ‘whatever’ and they’re directing our attention to the bottles… nobody saw the beautiful clean glistening marble walls. Recently, another video with what seems to be very similar used bottles.

It would seem to me that you don’t store chemicals in old used plastic bottles.

WORSE: Nobody noticed the body language of the armed soldier in the background who is definitely not Syrian.

For the purpose of the video, there was no need for a very nervous armed military guard who is not Syrian. The location was highly secure, cameramen were there… as I said, study the body language of the speaker.

            Food for thought.

            • It depends on the chemical. Some HAVE to be stored in very specific plastics and others cannot be stored in plastic. It really depends on the chemical or compound in question.

If a new plastic bottle is covered in dust, it will look like an old plastic bottle. I suspect that is what happens when plaster is exposed to large scale bombings.

    • If you were in that place, wouldn’t you be wearing gloves …?

Well, yeah, sorta. They would just have to be nitrile gloves or some other sort of non-latex material.

  4. zero hedge – Russia Responds: “We Are Being Threatened. A Predesigned Scenario Is Being Implemented”

After the a joint force of US, French and UK fighter jets and ship launched an attack which as Mattis said, “used a little over double the number of weapons this year than we used last year”, and amid unconfirmed reports that the Syrian air force managed to shoot down one or more Tomahawk missiles, the question everyone was asking is whether Russia has responded, and if so, how.

The answer, for now at least, is that Russia has not activated a response, although that may soon change. Here is the statement from Russia’s ambassador to the US, Anataloy Antonov, posted on Facebook:

The worst apprehensions have come true. Our warnings have been left unheard.

A pre-designed scenario is being implemented. Again, we are being threatened. We warned that such actions will not be left without consequences.

All responsibility for them rests with Washington, London and Paris.

Insulting the President of Russia is unacceptable and inadmissible.

The U.S. – the possessor of the biggest arsenal of chemical weapons – has no moral right to blame other countries.

Despite repeated warnings from Russia, President Trump ordered American forces, along with their British and French allies, to strike military targets in Syria on Friday night; as noted previously, during a press conference late on Friday, General Joseph Dunford, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Russian military operating in Syria was not notified about the American targets in advance told reporters following the attacks.

The US “specifically identified” targets to “mitigate the risk of Russian forces being involved,” Dunford said. “We used the normal deconfliction channel to deconflict airspace. We did not coordinate targets.”

While Trump said that the purpose of the US actions is to “establish a strong deterrent against the production, spread, and use of chemical weapons,” Antonov reminded that “the US – the possessor of the biggest arsenal of chemical weapons – has no moral right to blame other countries.”

The combined decision by the US and its allies to strike Syria comes after Russian Defence Ministry spokesperson Major-General Igor Konashenkov presented evidence claiming that last Saturday’s alleged chemical attack in Douma was orchestrated.

The attack also comes just hours before experts from the UN Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) were scheduled to visit Douma on Saturday to determine whether chemical weapons had indeed been used there. That particular trip is now moot.

  5. Statement by the Prime Minister on airstrikes in Syria

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, issued the following statement today on airstrikes in Syria:

“Canada condemns in the strongest possible terms the use of chemical weapons in last week’s attack in eastern Ghouta, Syria.

“Canada supports the decision by the United States, the United Kingdom, and France to take action to degrade the Assad regime’s ability to launch chemical weapons attacks against its own people.

“We will continue to work with our international partners to further investigate the use of chemical weapons in Syria. Those responsible must be brought to justice.”?

    • One of the things that has angered me the most during these charades of the past years is the morinic level with which those political stunts were performed eg Merkel bringing in “skilled young folk to counter the ageing bio-german population”, the “Gas-Attacks-by-Big-Bad-Assad-On-His-Own-Children” (when he was obviously winning both times, the “gassing of a double spy in London by Putin-him-self”, President Trump allegedly piddling on a whore in a bed in which Obama once slept and hence confirming his collusion with Putin” etc.etc. An insult to anyone’s intelligence who has been walking upright for more than a generation, I thought…….but then, you just reminded me, there is TRUDEAU !!!….

      • Whoops: “morOnic” level….I dont know what “morinic” is 😉

And while I’m here already: I’m very disappointed by Trudeau’s lack of dressing up for the occasion…I expected him to look at the very least like this and also bring his flute:

      • One of the things that has angered me the most …

Dear Rita, please proceed with great care. I cannot confidently promise you that there is sufficient space at this website to make a proper accounting of your (well warranted) grievances.

      • I know what you mean, the lies that are being told seem to be designed to let us know they are lies, either that or they think we are still in grade school.

  6. Definitely, he’s sending a message to Iran that its turn is coming up.
I don’t think Trump is into Syrian regime change, it’s not necessary. When Iran’s turn comes up in a few months, Assad will have lost its main backer.

    • Unless Iran makes some stupid move its turn will probably have to wait until after North Korea. I don’t think Kim is negotiating in good faith and from the way he is talking neither does Bolton.

  7. Defanging the MME (Muslim Middle East) and reassuring that it cannot do harm to Western Civilization is a task which likely requires some truly ugly measures.

Then again, almost everything facing us is just plain nasty. So there!

      • Thank you, Rita.

All of this crap is far beyond reality.

Then again, every one of us know this song by heart.

        • @ NorseRadish:
Incidentally, I will – with your assumed permission – be using the MME (Muslim Middle East) ! thank you 🙂

          • … I will – with your assumed permission – be using the MME (Muslim Middle East)…

Please do so immediately and without hesitation.

    • Until someone who otherwise just poses as a western leader, suddenly realizes that ONLY massive blood letting will solve this problem it will continue to metastasize like the cancer it is and slowly weaken and destroy all that we hold dear. In WW2 Churchill knew that the west could not destroy Germany as democracies have neither the will nor the capacity to handle the cost in casualties. When Germany beat the USSR to the punch and struck first, he said: “Now we cannot lose” as it was the huge manpower of the USSR and the communist lacking in any humane concern WRT casualties (their apparent inability to worry about sacrificing thousands of men on pointless attacks without costing the Germans any casualties actually severely depressed many German officers) that won the war. IIRC 75-80% of Wehrmacht units were destroyed on the east front. The west does NOT have the capacity to withstand the costs of curing the MME problem and if it tried the leftist scum would be out with their anti-war lunacy right from the start. We have to RIP out the left first or to not have any qualms about stifling them. The irony here is that these fools are destroying the golden goose who laid them.

      • Until someone who otherwise just poses as a western leader, suddenly realizes that ONLY massive blood letting will solve this problem it will continue to metastasize like the cancer it is and slowly weaken and destroy all that we hold dear.

        Well DUH!

Actually, Michelle, you deserve far better than my snide retort.

I am confident that Richard will agree with this. The incarnadine bloodletting that awaits us is the stuff of our worst nightmares.

        • It is, the west will end up resorting to that level of blood letting but only after most of civilization is destroyed. Those of us who live long enough are going to see all nations routinely do things that would turn the stomach of must about anyone.

      • We in the west will resort to the tactics that will destroy the problem in the Middle East but only after the left has destroyed more of our civilization.

      • NO. There will be very little blood-letting.
U.S.A. weaponry is too powerful and precise. No need to attack civilians, only infrastructure.

        • No need to attack civilians, only infrastructure.

I wish there was some way to agree with you.

There is only one thing that Islam responds to, violence.

The only thing that serves as even the slightest deterrent to Islamic terrorism is Massively Disproportionate Retaliation. Even then, Islam’s love of death makes genuine deterrence, essentially, impossible. Due to polygamy and the gigantic clans it creates, only when entire gene pools are chlorinated will Muslims sit up and take notice.

Remember, so-called “moderate” Muslims are the sea that terrorist fish swim in. There is no way for the West to winnow the two from each other. Only Muslims can do it. This is why it is so vital to decisively “motivate” the general Muslim population. Until they join the fight against jihadism, the only alternative will be nuclear obliteration, however repugnant that may sound.

What this means is that following each major terrorist atrocity, some large Muslim city is flattened. If the hometowns of the terrorist attackers are known, they vanish as well.

No nuclear weapons necessary. Fuel–air bombs will do nicely, thankyouverymuch.

After enough large Islamic cities disappear, Muslims—many of them wondering, “Will I be next?”—may begin to feel sincerely motivated about thinning their ranks of any jihadists.

The only alternative is just nuking most of the MME and I find that to be an unconscionable waste of human life. Saddest of all is that this catastrophic scenario represents one of the most likely outcomes.

  8. All along they have framed the Syrian War as an attack by Bashar al-Assad against his own people rather than an attack by Islamic Jihadists from both abroad as well as Syria. I don’t know why, but there has been a consistent prejudice against the Assad regime for the whole length of the war and the United States has been helping their enemies the whole time. If anyone has killed people it is the United States for weakening the Syrians and prolonging the war. None of this makes any sense at all. What’s going on…?

Is everybody aware that Syria is a secular nation that protects the rights of Christians and other minorities as well as letting women dress the way they want without religious police patrolling the streets? And is everybody aware that the “moderate rebels” would put an end to all that? Does anybody know why we are funding and training the bad guys and bombing the Syrians on suspicion of having used chemical weapons? Suspicion???

    • Agreed. Despite the blatant anti-Israel stance of Assad, I see isis and iran as far more dangerous as do all of those victims and refugees displaced by the death of Hussain who many hated but now see as the only one who could hold Iraq together and block Iran’s expansionism. When I was told this by an Iraqi I could barely believe her, but after she gave me the details of how most of her family were killed by isis and how Shiite militia funded and supplied by Iran now run her hometown it was hard to disagree.

      • Not only is Assad anti-Israel I have seen videos of Syrian Baathists doing the exact same “Sieg Heil!” salute that we all know so well. The Syrians are Jew-hating Nazi Arabs alright, but their brand of Naziism is preferable the ideology of ISIS, the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. But Arabs do not respect leaders that don’t have big torture chambers and extra-vicious secret police because Arabs believe in a 7th-century warlord’s religion, so what do you expect? Muhammad would have considered Bashar al-Assad to be disgustingly soft and liberal…

Is Trump making this HUGE mistake because he is so distracted and irritated by the Democrats constantly attacking him that he has lost the plot? How do you suppose things are at home for The Donald now that the Stormy Daniels issue has become the most important 24/7 news event of the century? Is this Trump’s way of saying, “How’s this for collusion, you Democrat bastards?”. Have they driven the mad bull crazy, ’cause that is certainly what they are trying to do…

    • He has resisted the efforts of the left to take over his nation, that is why they hate him.

  9. Again, defanging North Korea, Pakistan, and (eventually) Iran will involve little joy.

      • NORTH KOREA: The deal is already done. Zero blood. Wait till May.
And please, stop reading the newspapers, stop listening to the cable news, and choose well your websites.
