  5. ICE Claims Mexican Migrant Caravan is Fake News Made Up by Buzzfeed

However, one discerning user on Gab pointed out something interesting: the migrants are holding palm tree leaves.
Why is that so important, you ask? Well, this weekend just happens to be Palm Sunday, a religious holiday observed by the vast majority of Central Americans. The day is celebrated with parades, reenactments of the crucifixion, and by, you guessed it, Mexicans walking the streets carrying palm tree leaves.
Based on this coincidence, it is quite possible that BuzzFeed and “People Without Borders,” the group who claimed to be assisting the non-existent migrant caravan, took photos of Palm Sunday celebrations and passed them off as being a caravan of migrants.

Mexican officials have aided a “Holy Week” caravan of over 1,000 migrants headed to the U.S. border to demand Easter asylum, according to reports.

Mostly Hondurans, they posted celebration videos on Facebook and chanted “We are migrants. We are not criminals. We are workers.”

According to an account from the Center for Immigration Studies, Mexican authorities have allowed the migrants to drive north “with relative ease.”

Researcher Kausha Luna added that the group Pueblo Sin Fronteras, which aids immigrants, bragged about speeding into Mexico. It said, “On Monday Pueblo Sin Fronteras posted a video with the caption, ‘The Refugee Caravan knocking down borders yesterday in Huehuetan! Immigration agents abandoned the post when they saw us coming. The people celebrate this first small victory!”

Massive anti-India protests erupted in southern part of Kashmiri, as Indian army troops launched military operations in three southern villages.

Officials in India claimed that at least three Indian army soldiers, four civilians and 13 alleged militants were killed during the protests, along with dozens injured.

The conflict in Kashmir began shortly after the Partition of India in 1947 and continues to this day.

  9. The New York Times published a piece Thursday, “Can Islamic and European Civilizations Coexist?” and it is incredible (as in beyond belief, hard to believe, far-fetched, implausible).
The headline leads you to believe that, finally, maybe there might be a discussion of this existential question with a (sadly) obvious answer, but that would be delusional. In reality, the Times is not asking the question. It mocks you into thinking the question is a legitimate one. The real title should be: “Muslim Grievances, Why We Are Right to Whine After Jihadis Attack.”

The piece is not written by a legitimate, reasoned, and brilliant scholar of Islam like, say, Ibn Waraq, Bat Ye’or, or Robert Spencer. No, this absurd propaganda is by one of the Times’ resident shills for Islam, Atossa Araxia Abrahmian, coming in form of a review of Journey Into Europe: Islam, Immigration, and Identity, the latest installment in Islamic studies professor Akbar Ahmed’s series on Muslims around the world.

  11. BILTMORE FOREST – Police forcibly removed a Black Lives Matter leader from a recent anti-racism training after event organizers said she spoke out of turn, causing a disturbance.

Sharon Smith, 64, was arrested on March 16 at a Racial Equity Institute event at Mountain Area Health Education Center, in Biltmore Forest. Police charged her with misdemeanor counts of resisting a public officer, disorderly conduct and marijuana possession, which she said was added only after she was searched at the jail.

According to Biltmore Forest Police Chief Chris Beddingfield, the situation was “handled great.”

Smith, the educational director of Asheville Black Lives Matter, disagrees.

“It’s a perfect case study in how systemic racism works, absolutely perfect,” she said.

Shortly after the training started at 9 a.m., Smith answered a question one of three panelists posed to the group of several dozen participants. In doing so, she violated a Racial Equity Institute policy prohibiting alumni of the training from participating and thereby set in motion the chain of events that ended in her arrest.

  15. Global NEWS – Matthew Schrier was kidnapped by al-Qaida in Syria. He believes Canadians were involved

A U.S. photojournalist kidnapped and tortured by al-Qaida in Syria in 2012 laments in a new book that the RCMP has still not arrested any of the Canadians who were allegedly involved.

In The Dawn Prayer, or How to Survive in a Secret Syrian Terrorist Prison: A Memoir, Matthew Schrier writes about “the Canadian connection” to the seven months he was held captive in Aleppo.

A month into his kidnapping, he was brought before three Canadian-sounding jihadists who wanted his online passwords. His credit cards were subsequently used to make thousands of dollars worth of purchases.

Some of the items were delivered to an address in Montreal. Schrier believes one of the suspects bought the goods using his real name, which he learned from his credit card records.

But almost five years later, no charges have been laid.

“That terrorist has since moved back to Canada where he lives a free man, having never been arrested or punished in any way for his role in the crimes committed against me,” Schrier wrote.

The RCMP said the matter was still under investigation. “So there’s nothing we can really share on it yet,” said Camille Habel, an RCMP spokesperson in Montreal. “It’s an active investigation.”

The government has said it was aware of about 60 extremists who had returned to Canada after having been active in terrorist groups abroad, but few have been charged. Another 190 remain overseas, about half of them in Syria, Iraq and Turkey.

The kidnapping of journalists became rampant in Syria following the outbreak of civil war, both for ransoms and propaganda purposes. A freelancer, Schrier was abducted early in the conflict, on Dec. 31, 2012.

His captors wanted to use his credit cards and empty his bank accounts. To this end, three English-speaking jihadists were brought in. They wore masks but Schrier said he recognized their Quebec accents.

“The three of them asked me some basic questions about who I was and explained that they’d been brought into the process due to the language barrier,” Schrier wrote in his book.

He was given a pen and paper and told to write down the passwords for his email, Facebook, bank and credit card accounts. Three days later, they summoned him again.

“None of the passwords worked,” he was told.

This time they gave him a laptop and told him to log into his bank and credit card accounts.

Tortured and starved, Schrier escaped through a damaged basement window after seven months. He returned to the United States to find the kidnappers had made US$17,000 worth of purchases with his credit cards.

The shopping spree included laptops, tablets, car parts, sunglasses, cologne and iTunes downloads. The items had been sent to Turkey but two of the orders named addresses in Montreal.

The RCMP executed search warrants at the homes of six Quebecers in 2015 in relation to the investigation, La Presse has reported. The warrant applications accused them of fraud, extortion and kidnapping.

National security investigators brought Schrier to Montreal and played him a wiretap of one of the suspects admitting he did it, Schrier told Global News in an interview.

The evidence amassed by the RCMP also includes devices seized from the suspects’ homes that were purchased with his money, emails, text messages, a positive photo identification of a suspect and a credible witness in Schrier, he said.

Asked if he was frustrated at the RCMP over the lack of charges, he said: “No, I was frustrated because it took them so long but I do believe they did their jobs well enough to convict these people and the Crown will not move forward.”

Schrier wrote in his book that the FBI had told him they already had two in custody. “Over four years have passed, and not one of the Canadians in custody has been put before me for identification, much less indicted or extradited to Canada.”

He believes the FBI was likely letting the jihadists “steal my money so that they could then intercept the laptops and tablets before delivering them directly into the hands of al-Qaida, creating the intelligence community’s wet dream for infiltrating the enemy.”

“So in reality, the FBI wasn’t conducting an investigation; they were conducting an operation. [FBI Special Agent] Brody and her colleagues used me as chum, to bring the sharks to the surface.”

The FBI said its investigation remained open.

“We continue to work with our inter-agency and international law enforcement partners to gather intelligence and assess the possibility of bringing charges against those who victimized Mr. Schrier,” a spokesperson said.

  16. DAILY MAIL – British taxpayers gave £20m to Palestinian schools which teach children that martyrdom and jihad are ‘the most important meanings in life’

More than £20 million of British aid given to schools in the Palestinian Authority
But a shocking report reveals that the new curriculum encourages martyrdom
A textbook explained physics showing a boy with a slingshot targeting soldiers

A government minister has admitted that more than £20 million of British aid money is being spent on schools in Palestine that teach children about jihad and martyrdom.

A report by the Institute for Monitoring Peace and Cultural Tolerance in School Education reveals that the Palestinian Authority school curriculum ‘utilizes a variety of tools to convince children—mostly boys—to risk their lives and die as martyrs’.

Alistair Burt, the aid minister, admitted in parliamentary answers that British taxpayers are funding the salaries of 33,000 teachers who follow the curriculum that also promotes violence against Israel.

The report also revealed that the word Israel ‘typically appears as the Zionist Occupation’ throughout the curriculum which has been accused of exerting pressure on young Palestinians to be martyrs.

It goes on to highlight some of the lessons that are being funded by British aid.

A science textbook Newton’s second law of physics by using an image of a boy with a slingshot targeting soldiers, to explain power, mass, and tensile strength.

It reads: ‘Palestinian youths used slingshots to confront the soldiers of the Zionist occupation and defend themselves from their treacherous bullets. What is the relationship between the elongation of the slingshot’s rubber and the tensile strength affecting it?’

Meanwhile, a maths book for nine-year-old students teaches them to count up and work out the number of Palestinian martyrs.

Another textbook encourages nine-year-olds to be martyrs with a picture of students looking at an empty desk with the sign ‘The Martyr’.

A poem in a history book also glorifies martyrdom and calls for violent resistance against Israel.

It reads: ‘I vow I shall sacrifice my blood to saturate the land of the generous and will remove the usurper from my country.’

It also teaches that the families of terrorists will be rewarded in paradise.

The shocking report concludes that radicalisation is ‘more pervasive across this new curriculum’ than the old one, which was also widely criticised.

The curriculum ‘exerts pressure over young Palestinians to acts of violence in a more extensive and sophisticated manner’.

According to the Times, minister Burt admitted ‘all of their schools in the West Bank are using the revised 2017 PA curriculum. UK-funded public servants and teachers … are therefore involved’.

Joan Ryan, chairwoman of Labour Friends of Israel, told the Times that the situation is ‘absolutely appalling’ as the curriculum promotes violence, terrorism and antisemitism.

She called on the government to suspend all aid to the Palestinian Authority to be suspended.

Two days ago, at least 17 Palestinians were killed and 1,400 were left hurt during one of the largest Palestinian demonstrations along the Israel-Gaza border in recent years.

The Department for International Development said: ‘Our support is helping around 25,000 young Palestinians go to school each year. The UK government strongly condemns all forms of violence and incitement to violence.’

Last year, Mail on Sunday investigation found that 24 schools were named after Palestinian terrorists. Also discovered was evidence of widespread encouragement of violence against Israel by teachers, with terrorists routinely held up as heroes for schoolchildren.

Pictures of ‘martyrs’ were posted on school walls, revolutionary slogans and symbols were painted on premises used by youngsters, sports events were named after teenage terrorists and children were encouraged to act out shooting Israeli soldiers in plays.

Head teachers openly admitted to flouting attempts by British and European donors to control the curriculum at schools. They revealed they printed overtly political study aids for pupils, some even denying the existence of Israel.

  20. Schools hijab ban could lead to attacks on Muslim girls, teachers warn (MEE, Apr 1, 2018)
    http://www.middleeasteye.net/news/schools-hijab-ban-could-lead-attacks-muslim-girls-teachers-warn-1220345545

“Teachers in the UK have criticised Amanda Spielman, the head of Ofsted, the government’s schools watchdog, over her support for a school that tried to ban the Islamic headscarf, warning that her stance risked increasing the threat of verbal and physical attacks on Muslim girls and women.

In a motion passed at its annual conference on Sunday, the National Union of Teachers said that Spielman’s comments about the case of St Stephen’s primary school in east London went “beyond the remit of Ofsted”.

“These statements could have a negative impact on local communities and lead to further marginalisation of, and increased physical and verbal attacks on, Muslim girls and Muslim women,” the motion said.

The NUT, which is a wing of the National Education Union, the UK’s largest teaching union, also called on officials to “robustly challenge” Spielman over her support for the hijab ban.

Such statements by the chief inspector “have ramifications beyond the school gates and must be seen in the context of increased attacks on the Muslim community and particular stereotypes about Muslim girls and Muslim women,” the motion noted.

Commenting after the debate of the priority motion, Kevin Courtney, General Secretary of the NUT section of the National Education Union, said:

“We do not believe the statements made by HMCI (Her Majesty’s chief inspector) are evidence-based. There is no evidence to suggest that this particular item of clothing has an impact on a child’s learning or attainment.”

He added:”Discussions about dress code or school uniform should be conducted in a way which promotes inclusion for individual children and counters stereotypes about gender, faith and culture.

“Any policy should be built through forging respectful partnerships between teachers, families and students. This ensures engagement with all sections of the school community and that school policies meet the needs of children and young people.”

St Stephen’s, which is in Newham, an area of London with a large Bengali Muslim community, has been the focus of a bitter row after the school banned the hijab for girls younger than eight last September.

But the policy was reversed in January after a campaign by local parents following coverage of the school in the Sunday Times newspaper in which Neena Lall, the headteacher, appeared to link the policy to concerns about integration…”

    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2018/04/243531/detained-syrian-national-morocco-involved-funding-moroccan-isis-fighters/

“A joint investigation conducted by the Judicial Police and the General Directorate for National Territorial Surveillance (DGST) led to the arrest of two Syrian nationals on March 21, one of whom had reportedly been transferring funds to Moroccan ISIS fighters in Syria.

The March 21 arrests of the two Syrians took place in Sefrou and Mohammadia. According to a statement by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the suspect, who has been charged with funding criminal activities, had established a bank account in Morocco at the disposal of a money transfer agency in Syria in order to transfer and receive money.

Authorities also announced the arrest of two Moroccans, one from Casablanca and one from Taounate, for being involved in transferring money to the same Syrian suspect in 2017 and 2018, added the DGSN statement.

The second Syrian suspect arrested on March 21 was also receiving suspicious sums of money in his personal bank account.

Recently, the Moroccan counterterrorism bureau (BCIJ) dismantled a nine-member terror cell in Oued Zem and Tangier. The suspects were plotting to use a deserted property owned by one of the detainees in order to manufacture bombs and explosive devices, with the greater view to undermining stability in the country by attacking public institutions and police forces.

  26. Merkel’s CDU urges mandatory reporting of anti-Semitism in schools (DW, Apr 1, 2018)
    http://www.dw.com/en/merkels-cdu-urges-mandatory-reporting-of-anti-semitism-in-schools/a-43213052

“German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party on Sunday called for mandatory reporting of anti-Semitism in state schools.

CDU Bundestag faction leader Volker Kauder told Welt am Sonntag there was a lack of systemwide information on the issue.

“In every federal state, schools should be obliged to consistently report such incidents to the school administration,” Kauder told the paper.

He said it was important they report it so education authorities could form an interschool response to problem, which has been under the spotlight in Germany in recent months.

“In schools, each individual case must be punished consistently,” the CDU politician added. “On this subject in particular, there must be zero tolerance!”

Kauder’s comments came after nation-wide outrage when a little Jewish girl was bullied for months on end by her Muslim classmates in Berlin.

The president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Josef Schuster, told DW last month that Muslim children were being indoctrinated in their homes.

“We must be clear about one thing. No child, no youth, is born as an anti-Semite. That means these children must have gotten those ideas somewhere.”

The case brought many similar cases out of the woodwork, with the director of Human Rights Watch in Germany accusing authorities of “burying their heads in the sand.”

The issue of anti-Semitism in Europe was further highlighted by the violent murder of an elderly Holocaust survivor in France at the end of March.

The CDU’s Kauder on Sunday, however, warned against reducing the topic of intolerance to the fight against anti-Semitism.

“The statements of the father of the Jewish girl in Berlin, whose case triggered the discussion, were very thought-provoking for me,” said Kauder. “He spoke of some boys from Muslim families treating classmates badly, whether they were Jews, Christians or even Muslims, for example when they went to the wrong mosque.””

“An Easter Day poll questioning attitudes to religious discrimination in Scotland has found one in five Roman Catholics have experienced religious prejudice recently, while one third think the Islamic faith is afforded excessive deference and respect.

Although 33 per cent of Scots who said in the poll that “society pays too much respect to Islam”, just 11 per cent said Judaism gets too much respect. More Scots said Jews deserved more respect than they presently get than who said Muslims should get more respect, the Sunday Times Easter Day poll found…”

  28. Swedish Criminal Stats Agency: Gathering Ethnic Data of Suspects Not Part of Our Mission (breitbart, Apr 1, 2018)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/04/01/swedish-criminal-statistics-agency-ethnic-data-suspects-not-help-mission/

“The Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (Brå) has said that it will not gather ethnic or migrant background data on criminal suspects, claiming the data would not help its mission.

The statement came after an inquiry from Moderate Party politician Tomas Tobé who, like many others, has argued that the statistics agency should gather as much data as possible in order to paint a clearer picture of crime in the country, Helsingborgs Dagblad reports.

“It a betrayal to the victims to actively rule out also looking at the foreign background of the perpetrators. It is obvious that Brå does not dare to do this because they lack government support,” Tobé said.

The Moderate Party has demanded in the past that the council should gather ethnic and migrant background data, but Justice Minister Morgan Johansson of the Social Democrats has claimed the decision is up to Brå itself.

Press Officer of Brå Monica Landergård said that to gather the data would require “a completely different study, and then the question would probably not apply to the development of vulnerability to crime, which is the focus of this mission”…”

“US high-tech combat equipment intended for use by the special forces of Afghanistan reportedly flows into the hands of militants of the radical Taliban group, a US-based media outlet revealed Sunday.

Pentagon officials believe that the militants are stealing equipment or buying it on the black market, the New York Times reported.

It is also possible that the equipment, which got into the hands of the Taliban, later goes to the militants of other terrorist groups and is used in conflict zones outside of Afghanistan, the sources said…”

  31. CBC – In a bid to bring black students to science, this high school will offer Africentric math

‘We need to try to do something different,’ says Auburn Drive High School principal Karen Hudson

The thought of one day teaching science at one of Canada’s largest universities never crossed Kevin Hewitt’s mind.

Early on, white teachers in Toronto’s public school system steered Hewitt, who is black and immigrated as a child from the Caribbean in 1978, into non-academic math. They tried to dash his mother’s plans for him to become a medical doctor.

He credits his mother’s persistence, advocacy and belief that he was highly capable with helping him land where is now — an associate professor of physics at Dalhousie University in Halifax.

“I never thought as an immigrant, and not seeing other African-Canadians in physics throughout my whole time, that I would be here today,” he said in an interview.

That experience is in part why he is applauding a decision by Auburn Drive High School in Cole Harbour to become the first high school in Nova Scotia to offer an Africentric math course, beginning this September.

Teachers will incorporate discussions about the students’ cultural backgrounds, history and their lived experiences while teaching them about everything from measurements, surface area and linear equations through an Africentric lens.

The aim is to encourage Grade 10 black students to take advanced math and to consider careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

The school will work with local universities and specifically with Imhotep’s Legacy Academy, an outreach program at Dalhousie that Hewitt helped start and which encourages black junior high and high school students to consider careers in the STEM fields.

“It’s academic math but we want to build their self-confidence, their self-awareness so they can feel that they’re capable of doing the math,” Auburn principal Karen Hudson said in an interview.

“And the way to do that is we got to make sure that they become critical thinkers and that they engage in the process, that they own it.”

Auburn has a large population of black students. The conversation about the course started about a year ago after Hudson and others noticed that many were not taking higher level math.

“And so we said we need to try to do something different because we know that what we were doing was not working,” she said.

Of the 30 seats available, 23 students have signed up to take the course.

“I think it’s necessary,” Hewitt said, “because often we find ourselves alone in the classroom and that sort of isolation sort of makes one feel, without role models in front of you, that you can’t achieve, especially in the STEM subjects.”

School curriculum needs to better reflect the positive contributions of black communities, Hudson said, and part of the course will be to expose students to black professionals in the various STEM fields.

An example in the Imhotep’s program of bringing African culture into math is using the Egyptian pyramids to teach trigonometry.

Hewitt moved to Canada from the island of St. Vincent when he was 10 years old. He said his family’s first encounter with the school system wasn’t good.

His education in the Caribbean wasn’t valued and it was determined he should be put back a grade. In St. Vincent he had skipped a grade.

“Throughout my time in Toronto, at junior high and high school, there was always an effort to stream African-Canadian kids into sort of the remedial math or remedial science subjects that wouldn’t allow the student to go on to STEM fields,” Hewitt said.

His mother, however, was a strong advocate.

“As an immigrant to this country her focus was on ensuring that we had quality education, that we took advantage of that education and that no one streamed us anywhere but into the subjects that would lead to STEM fields.”

His mother was raising four children alone. Her efforts paid off.

Hewitt first went to the University of Toronto to study biology. It was there that he fell in love with physics simply because understanding the subject was relatively easy for him.

He later earned his doctorate, and in 2001 it was like a dream come true — he got a faculty position at Dalhousie University.

  32. Trump links US border wall to NAFTA renegotiation, warns Mexico ‘must stop drug, people flows’

President Donald Trump on Sunday explicitly linked his proposal to build a barrier between the U.S. and Mexico to ongoing NAFTA negotiations, as he renewed a warning that the flow of illicit drugs and undocumented immigrants from the country “must stop.”

Via Twitter, the president ripped the U.S.’s southern neighbor for doing “very little, if nothing” to stem illegal immigration and narcotics from flowing across the border. He repeated a threat he made earlier this year, warning that successful trade pact renegotiations may hinge on Mexico making efforts to secure its side of border.
