  1. Metro Vancouver Transit Police are asking the public to help identify a man and woman who are suspects in an alleged violent assault on a 61-year-old woman.

The victim boarded a 96B bus at the Surrey Central SkyTrain station on March 20 around 6:30 p.m. and sat next to the suspect, who apparently was saving the seat for her husband.

That led to an argument and the suspect allegedly used her hip and shoulder to force the woman off the seat and onto the floor, Transit Police said.

The husband sat down in the seat as the victim got up and sat behind the couple.

The woman took a photo of the suspects with her cellphone and that’s when things allegedly turned violent.

The female suspect allegedly grabbed the victim by the hair and pulled her body over the back of the seat, striking her head and chest on the metal handrail repeatedly while threatening to kill her, Transit Police said.

Holocaust survivor’s body found burnt, stabbed in Paris apartment

In crime reminiscent of the Sarah Halimi murder, declared an anti-Semitic crime, victim had reported in the past that a neighbor had threatened to burn her

The burnt and stabbed body of a Holocaust survivor was found in her Paris apartment, in what a watchdog on anti-Semitism said was a case reminiscent of an alleged anti-Semitic hate crime.

The National Bureau for Vigilance Against Anti-Semitism, or BNVCA, wrote in a statement Sunday that the suspected murder of the 85-year-old woman, identified by BNVCA and in the French media only as Mireille K., “is reminiscent of the crime committed against Sarah Halimi,” a 66-year-old Jewish teacher and physician, whom prosecutors say was murdered by her Muslim neighbor in April partly in connection with her Jewish identity.

According to the BNVCA, the octogenarian’s body was set on fire Friday night. Her charred body also had at least 11 stab wounds. Police have a suspect in custody in connection with her death.

The victim was found dead in her apartment on Philippe August Street in Paris’ 11th District, in the city’s east near the Nation Square. She reported in the past to authorities about a man from the same street, whom she said had threatened to “burn her,” BNVCA wrote.

A forensic examination of the apartment showed that an arsonist started a fire in at least five distinct areas of that space, the report also said.

The unidentified man was on the G train just before 4:30 p.m. Saturday when he attacked the boy who was standing next to his mother, police said. The train was approaching the Bergen Street station in Brooklyn’s Cobble Hill neighborhood.

The man then taunted the child before fleeing the train when the doors opened at the station.

It’s unclear what provoked the attack. Police sources told the New York Daily News the attacker yelled at the boy, “Are you going to cry to ya’ mommy?”

    • I don’t understand what she was complaining about in the interview; she took $130K in return for signing a contract. The contract was with the lawyer paying her, and the contract required her to turn over any relevant pictures and materials. What does that have to do with Trump not signing the document? Can a person be held to a contract which they signed and were paid for? If not, then what is the purpose of giving her money?

She seems untrustworthy as a person.

  11. Coalition forces intercept, destroy seven missiles fired toward Saudi Arabia (saudigazette, Mar 25, 2018)
    http://saudigazette.com.sa/article/531254/SAUDI-ARABIA/Coalition-forces-intercept-destroy-seven-missiles-fired-toward-Saudi-Arabia

“The spokesperson for the Coalition forces fighting to restore legitimacy in Yemen confirmed that air defense forces were able to intercept seven ballistic missiles that targeted Saudi territories from Yemen, Al-Arabiya said.

According to Col. Turki Al-Maliki, three of the missiles were directed at Saudi Arabia’s capital city of Riyadh, while one missile each was fired toward Khamis Mushait and Najran. Two missiles were fired toward Jazan indiscriminately to target civilian populated areas.

A statement on Saudi Press Agency said all the seven ballistic missiles were successfully intercepted and destroyed.

Fragments of some of the destroyed missiles landed on residential neighborhoods, according to preliminary sources of information.

Al-Maliki added: “This hostile and indiscriminate act by the Iran-backed Houthi militias proves that the Iranian regime is still involved in supporting the Houthis with qualitative armed capabilities in a clear and flagrant breach of UN Security Council resolutions 2216 and 2231. This is with the objective of threatening the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as well as regional an global security.”

He further said: “Firing ballistic missiles towards populated cities and villages is a violation of humanitarian international law. What the Houthi militias are perpetrating is a serious development in the war by terrorist organizations and the countries sponsoring terrorism, like the Iranian regime that is backing the Houthis.””

    http://www.middleeasteye.net/news/bahrain-pledges-tough-crack-down-seditious-social-media-accounts-1220315625

“Bahraini authorities on Sunday pledged a crackdown on social media accounts which offended “national and traditional values”.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah al-Khalifa said the government was adopting “severe measures to deal with unprecedented chaos by disruptive social media accounts,” in a statement published by the official Bahrain News Agency.

Social networking sites, notably Twitter, serve as a major platform for dissidents and rights activists in the tiny kingdom, which according to Amnesty International has stripped hundreds of dissidents of citizenship in cases that have failed to meet the standards of a fair trial.

“It was unfortunate that the social media had been turned into a place to spread sedition and rumours rather than to strengthen community bonds,” Khalifa said, stressing that citizens must “obtain information from official sources”.

“Every autumn on the mountainous Karakoram Highway, part of the ancient Silk Road, groups of Pakistani merchants living in China’s far west would wave goodbye to their Chinese wives and cross the border to spend winter in their home country.

As the snow piled high, the men would stay in touch with their families by phone, longing for the spring thaw that would allow them to be reunited in Xinjiang.
But last year many of their calls suddenly went unanswered.

Their families, they learnt, had disappeared into a growing network of shadowy “reeducation centres” that have swept up the region’s Uighur Muslim minority over fears of militancy crossing the border from Pakistan…”

  14. Egyptian parliament denounces Turkey’s ‘criminal military adventures’ in Syria and Iraq (ahram, Mar 25, 2018)
    http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/1/64/293453/Egypt/Politics-/Egyptian-parliament-denounces-Turkeys-criminal-mil.aspx

“The Egyptian parliament’s Arab affairs committee has strongly denounced Turkey’s military action in Syria and Iraq and its “racial cleansing” of Kurds in the area.

The committee, led by Saad El-Gammal, said on Sunday: “Turkey’s dictator Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s criminal military adventures in Syria and Iraq represents a grave violation of international law and an aggression against the sovereignty of the lands of the two countries.”

“This is a new mass extermination war and it reminds us of Turkey’s massacre of the Armenian people during the first World War,” the statement said.

It deplored that “both Russia and the United States are turning a blind eye to Erodgan’s war crimes and its racial cleansing operations against the Kurds in Syria and Iraq.”

“This is a signal that Erodgan has reached clandestine deals with both Russia and the USA to let him free direct his attacks and commit his war crimes against the two peoples of Syria and Iraq,” it added.

The committee’s statement argued that “it is clear that dictator Erdogan’s internal failures have forced him to mount military adventures against Turkey’s neighbours in a way that poses a threat to international peace and stability in the Middle East.”

“It is also deplorable that the United Nations and the Security Council have so far kept silent and refrained from adopting any resolutions that could lead to Turkey’s withdrawal from Syrian and Iraqi territory,” it said.

“Turkey has maintained its long-term policy of supporting terrorist groups, providing them with safe havens, and helping them to mount terrorist attacks in Syria, Iraq and Libya and infiltrate their lands.”

“In this respect, nobody can ever forget that a Turkish vessel carrying hundreds of explosives, ammunition and weapons was captured by Greek coast guards some months ago before heading to Libya to deliver these military supplies to terrorist groups there,” it read.

The statement also wondered “why Western human rights organisations have so far refrained from issuing any public condemnation of Turkish subversive policies which push the Middle East into a cauldron of endless wars?”

“These organisations are just good in issuing reports on human rights conditions in Egypt every now and then,” it said.

The statement concluded by stating that “there are high hopes that the friendly Turkish people will revolt against dictator Erdogan as wel as the country’s corrupt political leadership because they know that Erdogan’s military adventures and follies will bring a lot of havoc to them and their lives in the long run.”

The statement urged the Arab League, Arab leaders and Arab peoples to take a united stand against aggressive Turkish policies in the Arab world.

“We need a firm and united stand against Turkey politically, economically, culturally and socially,” the statement accentuated.

Head of the Arab Affairs Committee Saad El-Gammal told reporters that he hopes that the Arab summit, scheduled in Riyadh in April, will adopt a united Arab stand against Turkey’s Erdogan.”

  16. Austrian Study Claims Islamic School Teachers Significantly Underqualified (breitbart, Mar 25, 2018)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/03/25/austrian-study-claims-islamic-school-teachers-totally-underqualified/

“A new study from the University of Graz has claimed that less than a quarter of Islamic teachers in the south of the country have the same level of teaching qualifications as their Austrian counterparts.

The university study interviewed 64 of the 74 Islamic teachers in the Austrian regions of Styria and Carinthia and found many of the teachers lacked teaching qualifications altogether, Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung reports.

Wolfgang Weirer, who directed the study, said “Just under a quarter have teacher training according to Austrian standards,” and that a third of all the teachers had studied at universities in a foreign country.

Many others, the study noted, had no university degree, and some had not attended university at all.

The Islamic Religious Community of Austria (IGGÖ) said that they agree with Graz City Councilor Kurt Hohensinner who has proposed the creation of a body to regulate Islamic teaching in the region, as similar bodies already exist in Vienna and Innsbruck.

Styrian Specialist Inspector for Islamic Religious Education Esad Memic commented on the issue, saying: “We are opposed to homeschooled imams and educators teaching in backyards.”

As a result of the study, the University of Graz has created a training programme for teachers of Islam, in which participation is mandatory.

The study comes just after it was revealed that Austrian students from migrant backgrounds, many of whom are Muslim migrants, are well below the OECD education standard, according to the latest PISA study published earlier this week.

Only 47 per cent of foreign-background students have basic knowledge in the three areas tested, compared to 57 per cent in Germany and 82 per cent in Canada.

Islamic schools in Austria have also been accused of creating “parallel societies”, according to a study carried out by Ednan Aslan, a Turkish-born Austrian professor at Vienna University.

“Parents are sending their kids to establishments that ensure they are in a Muslim setting and learn a few suras [chapters from the Qu’ran],” Aslan said.

“But they are unaware that they are shutting them off from a multicultural society.”

At least one Islamic kindergarten has also been linked to radical Islamic extremism, after it emerged that a Chechen teen girl who tried to join the Islamic State had worked as a helper at a kindergarten.”
