  3. Czech PM: By No Means Will We Accept Any Migrants Within EU Quotas (sputniknews, Mar 2, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201803021062144949-czech-migrants-quotas/

“The European Union adopted a migration quota plan back in 2015, following massive migrant inflows into the region. However, a number of countries, including the so-called the Visegrad Group, with the Czech Republic being one member of the group, have clashed with the European Commission on the issue of quotas.

“By no means, will we accept any migrants within any quotas. Not a single one. We are against, on principle, of being dictated to on who has the right to live and work in our country. Compulsory quotas are ineffective and only divide Europe,” Prime Minister Andrej Babiš said, while delivering a speech in the parliament.

At the same time, the prime minister recalled a joint statement made by members of the Visegrad Group (V4), comprising the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary. According to the statement, EU members should render financial aid to the countries from where migrants come as well as for the reinforcement of external borders.

The minister added that the V4 countries had recently provided financial aid to the joint EU fund aimed at supporting Africa as well as to some African countries directly.

Speaking further, Babiš dubbed “absurd” the recent move by the European Commission that reprimanded the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary for not accepting illegal immigrants.
“I think it’s absurd that the European Commission filed a complaint against us for an absolute senseless case,” Babiš said.

Since 2015, over two million migrants — mainly from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and a number of impoverished African nations — have entered Europe.

Most migrants initially arrived by sea to either Greece or Italy, before crossing through other European countries, like Hungary, to reach wealthier EU states, such as Germany and Sweden.”

  4. Another German Food Bank Joins Rebellion Against ‘Migrants First’ (sputniknews, Mar 2, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/society/201803021062146822-germany-charity-rebellion/

“With an influx of refugees stretching a local charity’s resources to their limits, a second outlet of the German food bank Tafel has stopped serving foreigners and young single men, prioritizing families, single parents with children and retirees.

The NGO came under fire on Thursday amid reports that its branch in the western town of Marl was turning away non-Germans and young, single men, Deutsche Welle reported.

Amid the public outcry that ensued, Renate Kampe, chairwoman of the Tafel branch in Marl, parried accusations of racism arguing that the company actually wanted to put families, regardless of nationality, at the top of their list of food recipients.

“The main problem is that we do not have enough supplies,” she said.

Last week, the Essen branch of Tafel drew flak for refusing to serve foreigners after elderly people and single parents complained about being pushed and shoved at food distribution centers.

At a news conference on Thursday, Essen Tafel chairman Jorg Sartor said that the new policy was introduced in mid-2017 because 75 percent of the about 6,000 people coming to pick up food from the Tafel locations across the city were foreigners and elderly Germans were becoming too frightened to partake in the weekly food pick-ups.

The Marl charity is just one of the 930-strong chain of Tafel food banks all across Germany, which collects food that is nearing its expiration date from eateries and supermarkets to further distribute it among needy families at a specified time weekly.

Among those enrolled in the social program are those who are unemployed or low-income beneficiaries.

About 1.5 million refugees have arrived in Germany since 2015, prompting local authorities to allocate huge sums for migration-related issues.

The influx of migrants into the country was a result of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s open door policy towards migrants fleeing devastating wars and military conflicts in their home countries in the Middle East and North Africa.”

  14. China kicks off parliament season with attack on the West

BEIJING (Reuters) – China kicked off this year’s parliamentary season on Friday with an attack on those in the West who seek to besmirch the country for their own nefarious purposes, with a government spokesman quoting Martin Luther King Jr. in an appeal for understanding.

The highlight of parliament, which opens on Monday, will be the passage of a constitutional amendment that not only further cements the ruling Communist Party’s grip on power but also lifts presidential term limits.

The party made the announcement on Sunday, setting the stage for President Xi Jinping to stay in office indefinitely should he wish, prompting accusations from some in China that it is set to become another North Korea.

The move comes not only as Xi seeks greater power, but as the party increasingly seeks to have its voice heard around the world, especially through state media’s global footprint and in government-run Confucius Institutes meant to teach the Chinese language.

The issue has become particularly controversial in Australia, where Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull last year said he took very seriously reports that the Communist Party had sought to interfere in his country, sparking anger in Beijing.

  15. DOJ ‘reviewing’ potential for charging Oakland mayor who warned about ICE raid
    By J.E. Dyer March 1, 2018

Fox News reports that the U.S. Department of Justice is looking into whether Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf should be charged for warning illegal migrants on Saturday, 24 February that ICE was about to start an area sweep for the priority offenders the agency focuses on.

The acting director of ICE, Thomas Homan, told Fox & Friends on Wednesday morning that although the subsequent sweep had picked up 150 priority offenders, more than 800 remained at large in the San Francisco Bay area. He likened Schaaf’s warning to that of a gang lookout on the watch for police.

    • Burkina Faso: Explosion and gunshots rock French embassy and Army HQ in Ouagadougou

    • At least 30 dead as French embassy comes under attack in Burkina Faso

About 30 people were killed and 85 wounded in terrorist attacks on the French embassy and cultural centre in Burkina Faso and the west African country’s army headquarters on Friday.

Most of the dead were Burkina Faso soldiers, killed as they defended the targets in the capital, Ouagadougou, supported by French forces. There were no French casualties, security sources in Paris said.

It was not immediately clear how many gunmen took part in what are believed to have been coordinated strikes described by Edouard Philippe, the French prime minister, as “a terrorist attack”. At least six assailants are known to have been killed.

The bloodshed began when five of the gunmen jumped out of a pickup truck in the city centre, shouted “Allahu Akhbar” (‘Allah is greatest’ in Arabic), set fire to the truck and opened fire on passers-by. They then ran towards the French embassy, according to witnesses who saw the attack from the state television offices facing the embassy.

Around the same time, at least one explosion occurred near the army headquarters and the French cultural centre, located about half a mile from the embassy.

Moussa Korbeogo, a market trader, told the AP news agency that gunmen also arrived there in a pickup and started shooting at soldiers. “Some of the soldiers ran into a nearby bank to seek shelter. Several were killed outside and inside the premises,” he said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility. A 2016 attack in the city was claimed by al-Qaeda which said it was a reprisal for Burkina Faso’s participation in a regional military campaign against Islamists. Thirty people including six Canadians and five Europeans were killed in a subsequent attack on a Ouagadougou restaurant last year.

France, the former colonial power, has deployed 4,000 troops to fight jihadists in the impoverished Sahel region on the southern rim of the Sahara alongside soldiers from Burkina Faso and four other west African countries. The UN also has a 12,000-strong peacekeeping force based in neighbouring Mali.

The Islamist insurgency has claimed thousands of lives and forced tens of thousands of people to flee from their homes.

Burkina Faso is notoriously unstable and its long-serving president was ousted in an uprising in 2014.

A video was released on Friday of a 75-year-old French woman abducted in Mali in 2016 and believed to be held by an al-Qaeda affiliate. Sophie Pétronin, an aid worker, appeared to be in poor health.

Speaking in Nice, Edouard Philippe, the French prime minister, said: “This was a terrorist attack and the French embassy was among the targets.”

When Sarah Halimi, 65, died last April in Paris, her family and Jewish groups blamed anti-Semitism.

Kobili Traore, 27, who was arrested the day after the killing, went before the instructing magistrate on Tuesday who finally added anti-Semitism to the charges, the source said.

Traore was Halimi’s neighbour and allegedly broke into her apartment in a public housing development in eastern Paris on the night of April 3.

  26. How the Left Became its Own Worst Enemy – Part II

    by Denis MacEoin
    March 2, 2018 at 5:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/11974/leftists-islam

Feminists are far from the only so-called left-wing or liberal group to betray their own basic principles out of a bizarre admiration for Islam, whether its history, its values, or its self-proclaimed victimization. Real liberals believe in human rights, women’s rights, racial equality, free speech, and more, rejecting extremism on both the right and left. However, the left in the UK and elsewhere seems to have abandoned those principles and betrayed the very people they had previously supported.[1]

This willingness to indulge even the most anti-liberal beliefs and behaviour finds many of its roots in the general disdain that many so-called left-wingers and liberals seem to feel for Western democracy, human rights and individual freedom. This disdain, however, does not explain why so many people — often decent people — are drawn to defend Islam, Islamic patriarchy, Islamic discrimination against women, or violence in the name of Islam, especially when such defence is obviously anti-liberal in the extreme. Examples are not hard to find, for instance feminists who urge Muslim women to submit to the veil and abandon their rights as free women in favour of Muslim men and their power over them.

What possesses so many Westerners to regard Islam, Islamic religion, Islamic law, and Islamic intolerance through rose-tinted spectacles that obscure the obvious and blind observers from seeing what is in front of them?

  27. The Legal Case for Striking North Korea First

    by John R. Bolton
    March 2, 2018 at 4:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/11978/north-korea-first-strike

The Winter Olympics’ closing ceremonies also concluded North Korea’s propaganda effort to divert attention from its nuclear-weapons and ballistic-missile programs. And although President Trump announced more economic sanctions against Pyongyang last week, he also bluntly presaged “Phase Two” of U.S. action against the Kim regime, which “may be a very rough thing.”

CIA Director Mike Pompeo said in January that Pyongyang was within “a handful of months” of being able to deliver nuclear warheads to the U.S. How long must America wait before it acts to eliminate that threat?

Pre-emption opponents argue that action is not justified because Pyongyang does not constitute an “imminent threat.” They are wrong. The threat is imminent, and the case against pre-emption rests on the misinterpretation of a standard that derives from prenuclear, pre-ballistic-missile times. Given the gaps in U.S. intelligence about North Korea, we should not wait until the very last minute. That would risk striking after the North has deliverable nuclear weapons, a much more dangerous situation.

    • He is right the time is rapidly approaching the time when we will have to act to ensure that North Korea doesn’t get the capablities of puttting a nuke on US territory.

As we learned yesterday, the Florida high school students who have been the face of a push for gun control aren’t really the ones organizing things behind the scenes. A host of progressive gun control groups are actually taking care of most of the planning and preparation for their next big event. The so-called March for Our Lives is scheduled to take place in Washington, DC on March 24th. Unfortunately, the National Mall was already booked that day for what is being described as a “talent show.” From the Washington Post:

Police said the initial call just before 9 a.m. referenced an armed suspect holding approximately 100 people hostage in the chapel.

Just before police arrived, Tony Garces, a student at the city mission, snatched the handgun away from the would-be killer after others wrestled him to the ground.

“I took the gun away from a man who attempted to take others in the church hostage,” Garces told Fox News. “He already fired off one shot and I wasn’t going to let him fire again.”
