  1. UK- LEICESTER EXPLOSION – Hinckley Road explosion that killed five ’caused by illegal alcohol distillery’

The huge explosion which ripped through a three-storey building killing five people could have been caused by an illegal alcohol distillery. Three men arrested on suspicion of manslaughter in their 30s remain in police custody after five people died in the blast at the Polish Zabka supermarket on Hinckley Road, Leicester, on Sunday night. The men – all in their thirties from East Anglia, the North West and the East Midlands – were arrested on Wednesday.

Residents writing on social media claim the blast and resulting ‘pancake collapse’ of the three-storey building was> caused by an alcohol distillery exploding in the cellar. Posting a link to a story on the explosion, Liam Gannon said: ‘Heard from a[n] inside source they were making vodka.’ While Johnny P, wrote: ‘My mate has friends who helped cordon the area off on Sunday night and apparently cops told them an alcohol factory was in the cellar.

‘According to my mate, vodka and gin was being made and that caused the explosion. The chemistry is pretty unstable and when it goes bang, it really goes bang. ‘Always thought a gas explosion didn’t sound plausible considering no one smelled anything nearby.’

Writing on Facebook, Roz Rowett, of Leicester, said: ‘I’ve heard someone was making vodka and it exploded? ‘Don’t know how true it is though. RIP to all that have lost their lives.’ Officers searched the home of shop owner Aram Kurd, 33, and taking evidence bags from the property in Leicester. Mary Rajoobeer, 46, and her two sons Shane, 18, and Sean, 17, who lived in the flat above the Polish store destroyed in the blast, are all feared dead.

Leah Beth Reek, 18, who is Shane’s girlfriend and 22-year-old shop worker Viktorija Ljevleva are also thought to have perished in the blaze. Leicestershire Police are not commenting on claims but have not ruled it out as a line of enquiry. The force appealed for more information on people seen going in and out of the shop in the hours before the fatal blast.

Detective Inspector Michelle Keen said: ‘Our enquiries have established that there were a number of people in the area of the supermarket in the hour leading up to, and in the minutes after, the explosion. ‘I want to hear from anyone who was near the supermarket at the time and who, thinking back, remembers seeing something that they thought may have been suspicious. ‘It’s vital that we speak to anyone who may have information about any people they saw coming and going into the supermarket in Hinckley Road in the hours leading up to the explosion.

‘Was there anyone in acting strangely or in a suspicious manner? Did you see any vehicles parked up, or being driving in a strange manner in the area around the supermarket? ‘What you saw may have seemed innocent and innocuous.. But no matter how small the detail, no matter how insignificant it may have seemed, we need to speak to you. The information you have may be critical in this enquiry. ‘People lost their lives in the most horrific way on Sunday. We owe it to them to understand the cause of that explosion.’ Detectives investigating the explosion have arrested two more men today, taking the total in custody in connection with the inquiry to five.

  2. Putin’s Nuclear Warning
Russia’s strongman touts Russia’s deadly new weapons – and backs up “allies” Syria and Iran.
    March 2, 2018
    Lloyd Billingsley

“I want to tell all those who have fueled the arms race over the last 15 years, sought to win unilateral advantages over Russia, introduced unlawful sanctions aimed to contain our country’s development: all what you wanted to impede with your policies have already happened. You have failed to contain Russia.”

Thus spake Vladimir Putin in his annual state of the union address Thursday. The Russian strongman and KGB veteran brought along a video of the weapons his regime military-industrial complex had developed.

“It can attack any target, through the North or South Pole,” Putin said. “It is a powerful weapon and no missile defense system will be able to withstand.” According to Putin, an admirer of the late Josef Stalin, Russia can deploy nuclear-armed cruise missiles that can “avoid all interceptors.”

Bombs falling from the sky again, Russia is on the rise again, as the militant leader might say, and new boats are sailing once more. Putin also touted Russia’s nuclear-armed underwater drone with an “intercontinental” range and capable of targeting aircraft carriers and coastal military bases.

This was all ready to go and “nobody else” has anything similar. According to the Russian strongman, the new Doomsday Machine is a response to U.S. withdrawal from a treaty banning missile defense and U.S. efforts to develop a missile defense system.

    • Bombs falling from the sky again, Russia is on the rise again, as the militant leader might say, and new boats are sailing once more.

Worth reading, if only for its “The Producers” reference.

On a more disquieting note, modern Russia is beginning to resemble what early Third Reich Germany was in its time. The central difference being that Vladimir Putin is a shrewd, coldly-calculating, ex-spymaster, and nigh well leader for life. While he lacks Hitler’s rhetorical vehemence or persuasiveness, his vision of (and dedication to) the “long game” exceeds Hitler’s by light years.

There will be much less of the extravagant waste and blind alley military approaches that were common to both the Nazis and the USSR. However, Russia continues to face the toxic issues of wide-spread alcoholism, post-Afghan conflict heroin addiction, epidemic FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome), internal production issues, overreliance on petroleum extraction revenues, and a seriously negative population replacement rate.

Just the FAS epidemic is capable of derailing of Russia’s modernization. Without all those Romanian orphanages to farm out damaged infants to, the economic burden on Mother Russia poses the ability to suck down billions of rubles, kopecks, dollars, EUs, whatever.

This is also creating a huge component of “walking wounded” who require medical and therapeutic support but cannot maintain any sort of productive status in society. In this way—by creating despair and hopelessness that contribute to alcoholism—whatever (indigenous) replacement population that appears on the horizon is crippled from the outset.

As an aside, another apt comparison is how dangerous it is for journalists—either back in Nazi Germany or in modern Russia (much less during the USSR). In many ways, this is the bellwether of a society’s freedom.

At this juncture, I would be remiss to neglect any mention of how EU and American reportorial pools have largely self-censored themselves to the point such that they are nowhere near the typical cross hairs of so many repressive Socialist governments.

Finally, as a reward to those with the patience to have read this far:

Too many people label Trump as a “Fascist”. Yet, within his supposedly Fascist dominion, there are no death squads abducting and disposing of journalists or other political adversaries—something the Clintons seemed all too adept at.

Instead, between administration resources and (online) citizen journalism, the American press—and to a lesser extent, that of the EU—are having the covers yanked back to expose their sordid entanglements with some of the very worst and least “Liberal” (as in NOT Classical Liberal) elements to have emerged since the Weathermen and SDS subversives.

That Trump might possibly drain the media “swap”—if even only by a few feet—would represent an achievement able to stand apart from his single greatest political victory; namely, keeping Hillary out of the White House.

To close, there is no small irony about how 0bama was roundly praised—to the point of receiving a Nobel Peace Prize—simply for not being Bush. And, yet, here is Trump, industriously slogging away (in near-total silence) at goals whose implementation could potentially outshine even the most burnished accomplishments of either 0bama or those anticipated by Hillary.

      I’ll stop now…

      • I agree with all you have said.

As you said Putin is much smarter then Hitler or Stalin and is playing the long game. This is one of the reasons I think that when we are forced to move in Korea he will set out the war, no matter who wins the war his two biggest rivals will have been weakened. He will have been given a relatively free hand in the Middle East and will have made some propaganda gains (probably a lot of propaganda gains) in all of Europe. Then at the end of the war he comes in on the winning side and proclaims that he won the war for the winner.

        • This is one of the reasons I think that when we are forced to move in Korea he will set out the war, no matter who wins the war his two biggest rivals will have been weakened.

Putin is far too cynical to merely sit out a conflict like this.

He will send arms, materiel, and whatever other support is necessary to advance Russia’s objectives … just with plausible deniability.

  3. Last year, the establishment media made an all-out effort to whitewash the phrase “Allahu akbar.” The worst article, among many, was published in the New York Daily News. Zainab Chaudry of the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) argued that non-Muslims shouldn’t “believe the worst” about “Allahu akbar” because Muslims don’t just scream it while murdering non-Muslims, but use it in a variety of contexts. Chaudry’s conclusion was chilling:

So the next time you hear Allahu Akbar — whether it’s in a media report, on an airplane, or in a shopping mall, remember that the phrase used by millions of Muslims and Christians daily to praise God regardless of their circumstances, can never be justified for use when harming His creation.

This was deadly advice. If you hear “Allahu akbar” yelled on an airplane or in a shopping mall, you may well be in the midst of a jihad terror attack. But people conditioned by Chaudry’s advice may not realize that. Bystanders in Ouagadougou, when they heard “Allahu akbar,” should have gotten as far away as possible. But Chaudry would have had them stand there thinking about how Islam is a religion of peace. And so the casualties would have been maximized.

    https://www.jihadwatch.org/2018/03/burkina-faso-muslims-screaming-allahu-akbar-open-fire-on-french-embassy

    • If you hear “Allahu akbar” yelled on an airplane or in a shopping mall, you may well be in the midst of a jihad terror attack.

      Full stop. End of line.

When entrained into mass-transportation, always have a Plan B. Make sure you have some way of actively engaging an aggressor (i.e., just a roll of dimes). Even in the shopping mall scenario, always be aware of egresses, places of cover (rest rooms), emergency exits and all of that conspiracy rot.

I cannot amply communicate the bitter grief that entwines with how a security pass-through at the airport for a 1969 overseas flight involved a ten minute check in.

  4. Leftists Batter Nitkowski, Drive Him From the Game
Enforcers of China’s Cultural Revolution in action.
    March 2, 2018
    Robert Spencer

Orwell’s Thought Police and the enforcers of China’s Cultural Revolution had nothing on today’s Social Justice Warriors. Their latest target for self-recrimination and reeducation is C.J. Nitkowski, a former Major League pitcher and now broadcaster for the Texas Rangers. Nitkowski’s crime: retweeting a tweet from the Proud Boys, which describes itself as “a pro-Western fraternal organization for men who refuse to apologize for creating the modern world; aka Western Chauvinists.”

Proud Boys declares “anti-racism” as one of its values, and it’s clear that Nitkowski doesn’t know the Proud Boys from Shinola, but that didn’t stop the guardians of acceptable opinion for coming after him. Nitkowski, according to SportsDay, “on Monday deleted his tweets and protected his account after being accused of a racist attitude for a liking, of all things, a tweeted photo of the gold-medal winning U.S. Olympic women’s hockey team.”

That’s right: not a photo of Klansmen in robes and hoods or goosestepping Nazis with the caption “I’m with them!” Not even a photo of the man that the Left would have us believe every decent person despises, Mr. Donald J. Trump. No. A photo of the gold-medal winning U.S. Olympic women’s hockey team. But SportsDay goes on to inform us that “it wasn’t the photo that caused the controversy, but the account that sent the tweet. The account, @ProudBoysUSA, has been labeled an extremist group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.”

  5. Justin Trudeau’s Indian Trip Keeps Getting Worse
    March 2, 2018

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has often been dubbed Canada’s Obama. Nah, he’s more comparable to Joe Kennedy III or Israel’s Yair Lapid, a young, good-looking, empty-headed silver spooner who is only in the running for anything because of his last name. Trudeau’s dorky Excellent Indian Vacation helped make that clear. And it’s just the gift that keeps on giving.

The obvious disaster is still the cosplay photos of Trudeau and his family. But a chunk of that mess only came about because Trudeau’s sympathy for Sikh separatists had infuriated the government. And the precocious prime minister just keeps digging a deeper hole.

    https://www.frontpagemag.com/point/269476/justin-trudeaus-indian-trip-keeps-getting-worse-daniel-greenfield

    • I think this article gives Trudeau too much credit. Rather than any level of attributed conniving on his part, I believe him to be so bereft of street smarts and life experience that he is “playable” by any manipulative agents who gets close enough.

      • You are probably right, he strikes me as the amiable dunce that people take advantage of. Not that he isn’t a willing participant he just doesn’t have enough street smarts to know what is being done.

  6. Germany’s Merkel Admits There Are No Go-Zones
    March 2, 2018
    Daniel Greenfield

    No-Go Zones.

Parts of Europe and other First World countries where the government has no control and immigrant populations, often Muslim, create their own zones of authority for a state within a state. These are places where the rule of law doesn’t exist, but Sharia police and Islamic court do. The left and its media outlets insist that no such places exist and that they’re a myth created by Islamophobes.

Now their own heroine is admitting the truth.

  7. http://thehayride.com/2018/03/racist-restaurant-charges-whites-more-for-the-same-meal-than-non-whites/

The Times-Picayune has uncovered a racist restaurant in New Orleans that is charging different amounts for meals based on race. Even more startling, this restaurant is working with Tulane University and Loyola University on this scheme.

Except the Times-Picayune is praising the racism in question. That is because the racism is targeted towards white customers.

A restaurant run by Tunde Wey at the Roux Carre’ food court in Central City is embarking on what they call a social experiment on racial and economic disparities in New Orleans. The restaurant is charging white customers $30 for a plate of Nigerian food and non-whites $12 for that same plate.

  8. RACISM IN ACTION: Schumer: I Won’t Vote For This Judge Because He’s White

s The Daily Caller reported on Thursday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) stated on Wednesday that he would not vote for a judicial nominee because of the color of his skin. The Trump nominee, Marvin Quattlebaum, is white. This, according to Schumer, is absolutely unacceptable. Schumer fumed:

The nomination of Marvin Quattlebaum speaks to the overall lack of diversity in President Trump’s selections for the federal judiciary. Quattlebaum replaces not one, but two scuttled Obama nominees who were African American. As of February 14th, 83 percent of the President Trump’s confirmed nominees were male, 92 percent were white. That represents the lowest share of non-white candidates in three decades. It’s long past time that the judiciary starts looking a lot more like the America it represents. Having a diversity of views and experiences on the federal bench is necessary for the equal administration of justice.

  9. This Pop-Up Restaurant Asks Whites To Pay More
“Refusing to pay more comes off as anti-social and people don’t want to be judged for that.”

As part of a month-long “social experiment,” a pop-up restaurant in New Orleans is asking white customers to pay extra for their meal in the name of wealth redistribution.

According to Civil Eats, the pop-up called Saartj gives white customers — and only white customers — the option to pay “$12 for lunch or the suggested price of $30” while black customers are “charged $12 and also given the option to collect the $18 paid by a white patron as a way to redistribute wealth.”

Restaurant creator Tunde Wey says that his project seeks to educate patrons on the “nation’s racial wealth gap,” using statistics, according to Civil Eats’ coverage from an EPI study that looks at income distribution broadly, similar to the debunked 22-cent “gender pay gap” statistic.

  10. SCHAEFFER: What A Hurricane Taught Me About The 2nd Amendment

As a Midwest transplant, one of the first things I noticed after moving to my leafy New Jersey suburb was how few of my neighbors had ever even seen a real gun let alone held or fired one. Where I grew up, which at the time was a semi-rural outlier of Chicago, shooting guns was just part of who we were.

I shot my dad’s M1 Carbine; several of my friends had small bore shotguns and even a few pistols. We all could aim straight and true. Never once was anyone even close to being injured. When you grow up with responsible gun ownership pounded into you by unforgiving teachers like my 1st U.S. Marine Division Korean War veteran father, you very quickly come to appreciate their deadly seriousness and treat them with proper respect.

  11. Terrorist ‘teacher’ found guilty of grooming ‘army of children’ to attack London landmarks

A self-styled teacher and supporter of Islamic State has been found guilty of trying to create an “army of children” more than a hundred-strong to help carry out a wave of terrorist attacks across London.

    • Remember the reports on how China is pushing high dollar projects on other nations so they have to borrow money from China, money they probably won’t be able to pay back and will become unofficial colonies of the Chinese.

      • Great video (despite the irritating robotic voice).

India is at the fight or fuck fish or cut bait stage.

I’m obliged to wonder if this is not a micro-example of the macro event whereby America’s less restrained spending on the SDI (Strategic Defense or “Star Wars” Initiative finally bankrupted Soviet Russia.

From all appearances, it seems as though Red China is hurrying along India in a similarly ruinous spending pattern.

Worst of all is how India continues to play the “fence-sitter” amidst all of this, even as the Indian nation is much the worse when it comes to acquiring top-grade weapons systems or deep-level military pacts.

Relying upon Russia for high-end military technology is like depending upon an auctioneer to give you the best deal.

        • Which is going to go bankrupt first, India or China? Right now it looks like India but China isn’t far behind.

          • Which is going to go bankrupt first, India or China? Right now it looks like India but China isn’t far behind.

Both are headed for the hopper.

India has the better chance, if only because it never adopted the OFOC (One Family One Child) policy. Other elements in The Subcontinent’s favor are a substantial English-speaking population, adjustment to semi-democratic, parliamentary procedure, and not enduring the intensive monitoring of a typical Communist society.

None of which changes the fact that India is cursed by some of the most deeply embedded, multilevel, corruption of any major global population center.

Never one to be outdone by a lesser rival, Communist China has mired its own self in a sucking morass of graft, bribery, and corruption.

The intensely negative economic arc of either country is simple cause for alarm. Each of them represents a potential “bubble” that could trigger massive financial collapse.

There are numerous tripwires between India and Red China. Far too few have (immediately perceivable) “global consequences”. As a result, there is little in the way of international concern regarding this conspicuous flare point.

            That may change soon.

  12. Millennial revolution by STEALTH will lead to DICTATORSHIP, warns David Starkey (express, Mar 3. 2018)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/926079/BBC-news-millennial-revolution-stealth-dictatorship-David-Starkey-Jeremy-Corbyn-news

“THERE has been a “stealth” revolution over the past 20 years which has brought us back to the “Middle Ages”, created a quasi-religious fanaticism for Jeremy Corbyn, destroyed patriotism and could destroy democracy, according to historian David Starkey.

Universities are no platforming speakers which lead Jerry Seinfeld to refuse to perform on US campuses because everyone is too “politically correct”.

David Starkey believes this is a worrying trend and the last thing comparable was the puritanical revolution in Cromwellian times.

Speaking on the BBC’s This Week, Mr Starkey said: “For in the last 20 years we have had a revolution by stealth.

“Not in our streets but in our values as a generation brought up with no rules and no religion has lurched with quasi-religious fervour into a puritanical group-think where debate is stifled and difference of opinion cannot be tolerated.

“Everywhere is back to the Middle Ages. In the Universities, no platforming is a heresey trial without the stake.

“In Law the uncovering of historic sex abuse has turned from due-process into a witch craze.

“Accusation proves guilt, every victim must be believed. This is Salem.”

He argues the PC culture has created a divided world in which politics takes on a religious intensity.

He added: “In politics too there is a new pseudo-religious intensity. Pro-Trump and anti-Trump, Remainer and Brexiteer confront each other in a sort of holy war.

“While in the Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn – JC – plays the Messiah and momentum presents itself as a cross between the Jesuits and the Knight’s Templar.

“This does not bode well, last time that religion so dominated politics was in the Puritan religion which led to civil war, the abolition of Parliament and military dictatorship.

    “Welcome to the Millennial’s Millennium.”

This goes against the grain of UK political history, according to Mr Starkey.

British politics differs from continental Europe because it has had a process of evolution rather than revolution.

He added: “The British political system of Monarch, Lords and Commons is almost 800 years old. It survived because behind the fixed facade of Parliament it has proved astonishingly adaptable to changing social realities.

“In continental Europe, the ancien regime had to be torn down by revolution. In Britain it came by evolution as first the bourgeoisie, then the working class and then women secured a vote for and representation in Parliament.”

The outspoken historian goes on to highlight that the British constitution has withstood threats from more radical elements within the system.

He said: “Our Parliamentary constitution even survived the rise of the Labour Party as the monarchy under George the fifth and the Tory Party under Stanley Baldwin went out of their way to welcome Labour ministers and trade unionist the like into the corridors of power and Buckingham palace itself.”

But in a stark warning, he believes this previous world is now gone and so has patriotism.

And this death of patriotism will invariably lead the death of democracy, perhaps even dictatorship – according to Mr Starkey.

In a chilling warning, he concludes: “This is the world portrayed brilliantly in the film ‘Darkest Hour’ but everything in that film, the patriotism, the shared values, the importance of rhetoric are now dead and buried as Winston Churchill himself.

“We are also getting a determination to re-write the historical past, we’re getting a shyness about genuine national identity and one of the things that I worry about most is without a clear notion of a national identity and a national story is there is no possibility of genuine democratic political action.

“Political action depends on the fact we all recognise we have something in common with each other. If we are to be divided into tribes, if we are to be divided into genders, or races then there is only one form of Government that can hold the balance.

“That is someone who sits on a throne and exercises imperial authority.””

    • He argues the PC culture has created a divided world in which politics takes on a religious intensity.

There is no way to overstate this.

Between identity politics and (more than weird) identity sexuality, what once may have been honorable religiosity, now (too often) manifests as the most deranged self-assignations and unimaginably convenient (mass) escapes from reality.

      • religious intensity

It is the new religion, one that is damaging everything it touches. Hopefully we will be able to reduce it to a small cult instead of a large cult like Islam. This is going to take time since we are fighting the Islamic Invasion, the Cultural Marxism, the Kim dynasty in North Korea, Communist China and probably several smaller groups that I can’t think of.

We are doing this at the time when the entire world is changing and changing in ways that were inconceivable a decade or so ago.

“U.N. experts monitoring the implementation of sanctions on Mali are warning that the conflict-wracked West African nation and its neighbors “face intensified terrorist threats,” especially in the border area between Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.

The experts’ interim report said the militant group calling itself the official al-Qaida branch in Mali and the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara extremist group have declared that “jihadist groups are working together” to fight a new 5,000-troop African force charged with fighting extremists in western Africa’s vast Sahel region.

Their report to the Security Council sanctions committee was obtained Friday by The Associated Press, the same day Islamic extremists opened fire on the French Embassy and army headquarters in Burkina Faso’s capital. The government said at least seven soldiers and eight militants were killed.

“A Spanish court has sent a second rapper in two weeks to prison for praising terror groups, encouraging violence and insulting the Spanish Crown and state institutions, including the police.

The National Court sentenced Pablo Rivadulla, known as the rapper Pablo Hasel, to two years in prison and fined him 24,300 euros ($30,000).

It found in a ruling published Friday that Hasel committed the crimes on Twitter between 2014 and 2016. It also noted he was a repeat offender, having been convicted of the same crimes for songs posted on YouTube in 2015.

Last month, the Supreme Court upheld the conviction of a rapper who argued that his lyrics praising terror groups were protected by freedom of expression laws.

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/uk-man-convicted-running-muslim-woman-hate-attack-53462059

“A British man was convicted of attempted murder on Friday for running over a Muslim woman in a hate crime he saw as revenge for Islamic extremist attacks.

A jury at Nottingham Crown Court in central England found Paul Moore guilty Friday of the Sept. 20, 2017, attack, which left 47-year-old Zaynab Hussein with life-changing injuries.

Prosecutors said 21-year-old Moore drove his Volkswagen into Hussein in the central England city of Leicester, then ran her over as she lay on the ground. Hussein suffered fractures to her pelvis, her spine and leg and spent almost three months in hospital.

Minutes later, Moore tried to drive into a 12-year-old schoolgirl, who wasn’t hurt.

Moore told his half-brother he was “proud of himself” for the attack, which took place five days after a failed bombing at a London subway station.

After the verdict, Hussein’s husband Barre Duale said Moore “was attacking a British mother, a British wife, a productive British worker and charity volunteer.”

“He wasn’t attacking terrorists. He was joining their ranks by doing what they do and attacking an innocent woman,” he said in a statement.

Moore will be sentenced March 27.”

    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/03/02/french-mobile-app-travellers-chaperone-attacks-public-transit/

“Parisian public transport company RATP has partnered with a tech firm on a mobile app which allows travellers to match up with others making similar journeys so they can avoid being targeted by criminals on public transit.

The app, called ‘Mon Chaperon’, or My Chaperone, has been available since December 2016 and allows users to meet up with others travelling along the same route.

Fabien Boyaval, the creator of the app, said: “I had this idea after one of my friends was assaulted in the street in Montpellier.”

The partnership comes among rising concern across Europe about the prevalence of No Go Zones, areas of lawlessness where outsiders are afraid to enter…”

  18. Sadiq Khan Focuses on Alleged ‘Ethnic Pay Gap’ While Crime Wave Rolls over London (breitbart, Mar 2, 2018)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/03/02/sadiq-khan-focuses-called-ethnic-pay-gap-crime-wave-london/

“London Mayor Sadiq Khan is setting his sights on the so-called “ethnic pay gap” while the capital is gripped by crime.

The Labour politician cited a pay audit which claims Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) municipal employees are paid “up to” 37 per cent less than white employees “on average” — but type of job, hours worked, etc. are not taken into account.

“I am deeply troubled that members of the black, Asian and minority ethnic community who work at these organisations earn on average less than their white counterparts, and I am determined to confront this inequality,” Khan declared.

“This sort of injustice takes many years to develop and it becomes deeply entrenched. My administration is finally beginning the process of turning this around.”…”

  19. Hysterical CNN Pushes ‘Italy Returns to Fascism’ Narrative, Fails to Declare Author Campaigned Against Article Subjects (breitbart, Mar 2, 2018)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/03/02/hysterical-cnn-asks-can-anything-save-italy-return-fascism/

“U.S. broadcaster CNN published an article this week by historian Andrea Mammone claiming that the return of conservative former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi to Italian politics, along with the popularity of anti-mass migration parties, is heralding a return to fascism.

According to Mammone, the policies and rhetoric of Mr Berlsuconi during the Italian national election campaign have “led to the legitimization of the far right” and cites the rise of the far-right Casapound movement and the far-right Forza Nuova.

Recent polls suggest that much of the rhetoric used by Silvio Berlusconi, such as promising to deport 600,000 illegal migrants, has resonated with voters as his party along with the populist La Lega, are favourites to win Sunday’s vote.

The polls tell a different story for the two far-right parties mentioned by Mammone. Casapound, according to an average of the last 15 opinion polls, polls at around 0.8 percent, well below the needed 3 percent threshold to enter the parliament. The polling numbers for Forza Nuova are so low they are often not even listed.

The Royal Holloway historian also mentions several recent events hosted by the Fondazione Feltrinelli entitled “What is Right? What is Left?” featuring French Les Patriotes leader and former Front National vice-president Florian Philippot and French new right philosopher Alain De Benoist.

Breitbart London has interviewed both Mr de Benoist and Mr Philippot, who now sits in the European parliament group chaired by former UKIP leader Nigel Farage. Neither men claimed to be fascists or made any support of fascism during the interviews.

Mammone also neglected to mention that he, along with far-left George Soros-funded Hope not Hate researcher Joe Mulhall, was involved in a petition to get Dr Benoist removed from the event. Mammone follows Mulhall — also a researcher at Royal Holloway — on Twitter.

Far left Hope not Hate have been described as using “dirty, underhand, low down, unscrupulous” tactics by one of their former leading consultants, Dan Hodges, who now writes for the Telegraph.

The article is not the first time CNN has pushed the views of someone either linked to Hope not Hate or the organisation directly.

In December, Dr Mulhall was brought on as a guest by Christiane Amanpour to talk about U.S. President Donald Trump retweeting several videos posted by Britain First member Jayda Fransen.”

“A German national has been arrested with the Taliban during a raid in Afghanistan’s insurgency-racked Helmand province, officials told Agence France Presse late Wednesday, a rare example of a European among the insurgents.

“A man … who identified himself as a German citizen and speaks German, was taken along with three other suspected Taliban on Monday night in Gereshk district of Helmand province,” said Omar Zwak, the provincial governor’s spokesman.

A statement from the Afghan army corps in the province confirmed that the man had been detained with other suspects in a joint operation between Afghan Special Forces and the Afghan air force.

“The German national calls himself Abdul Wadood, and he was taken to Kandahar for further investigation,” the statement said.

Gereshk police chief Ismail Khplwak said the man was the “military adviser of Mullah Nasir”, commander of the Taliban’s elite “Red Unit” in Helmand.

If confirmed it would be one of the few incidents in which a European has been captured fighting among the insurgents…”

  26. ISIL conducted over 4600 attacks worldwide in 2017, despite major territorial loses: NATO (hurriyetdailynews, Mar 2, 2018)
    http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/isil-conducted-over-4600-attacks-worldwide-in-2017-despite-major-territorial-loses-nato-128112

“The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) conducted more than 4,600 attacks worldwide in 2017, even though the group has experienced serious territorial loses, according to an analysis made by the NATO’s intelligence unit.

As the ISIL is defeated militarily in Syria and Iraq, the jihadist militant group has been changing its recruitment strategy and attack style.

“When faced with pressure, terrorist groups are often able to adjust their modus operandi. Throughout 2016-17, senior ISIL leaders adopted their organization to these new realities. For example, granting greater autonomy to its branches, to regional affiliates, basically decentralizing the organization,” a NATO official told Hürriyet Daily News on condition of anonymity.

The official expressed the NATO’s concerns that despite losing territory the group has managed to keep its ideology strong enough to recruit new fighters.

“We observe with great concern that despite intense efforts by the international community to defeat the ISIL, the ideological power of the group remains strong. They are still able to recruit and inspire attacks,” the official said…”

“Islamophobia is on the rise in Spain, where 546 incidents of hate or intolerance were recorded in 2017, with two-thirds – about 386 – on the Internet, according to the annual report on Islamophobia presented Friday at the Casa Arabe in Madrid by the Plataforma Ciudadana Against Islamophobia.

The incidents include hostile messages towards the Muslim community by political leaders, attacks on mosques, media campaigns against the opening of new religious centres, as well as aggression and discrimination against Muslim women and the proliferation of hate and fake news with xenophobic messages on social networks.

Of the incidents recorded last year, 21% were acts against women, 8% against men, 4% against children, with 4% against non-Muslims.

The report said 7% of incidents were against mosques and religious centres.

Of the regions in Spain, Catalonia had the highest number of incidents of Islamophobia – above all following the jihadist attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils – followed by Andalusia and the Valencian Community.

The Plataforma Ciudadana is a national independent association founded in 2011 by the Islamic Cultural Centre of Valencia, the Movement Against Intolerance, and the Junta Islamica, a member of the Council of Victims of Hate Crimes and Discrimination, a pioneering organisation and point of reference in Europe.”

    • “shaking hands” The video’s dialogue and the google search I just did
misrepresent the status of this social exchange. Few observant Orthodox Jews refrain from shaking hands in a business environment because of the prohibition on embarrassing someone who has already extended a hand.

There seems to be a sudden modesty when explaining the reason for the prohibition against contact. The official goal is for men to avoid being sexually aroused by a woman not his wife. This translates into not shaking hands with the opposite sex. (One hope that assimilation mediates that translation.)

  29. Bern bomb alert operation ends with one arrest

A young Afghan man threatened to detonate a bomb on Friday afternoon in the Swiss capital’s Church of the Holy Spirit, prompting a five-hour police operation that disrupted traffic around Bern’s main train station, according to a police spokeswoman.

Speaking after the police operation ended, she said Bern cantonal police had received a bomb alert early in the afternoon saying that a man was behaving strangely in the church.

When they arrived, police found suspicious objects on the 21-year-old man inside. The church was evacuated and the young man was detained for “further clarifications”, according to a police statement in the evening.

It further said two objects were neutralized, namely two components linked by cable that the man was carrying on his person. They have been taken for analysis, which police said would take time.

The area around the church, which sits right next to Bern train station’s main entrance, was sealed off for hours for security reasons. Traffic was unable to move, while certain tram and bus lines were also affected. The main entrance to the station was closed, but without disruption to rail services.

The security cordon was lifted early evening on Friday, but the zone immediately next to the church and the church itself remain closed for purposes of the investigation. Police cannot yet say whether the objects found on the young man in the church presented a real danger to the public or not.

Afghan man held after bomb threat near Bern train station

GENEVA (AFP) – A young Afghan man was arrested in the Swiss capital Bern on Friday (March 2) following a bomb threat near the train station and the discovery of “suspicious objects” in a nearby church, local police said.

Shortly after 1.30pm (830pm Friday Singapore time), Bern police were informed of a bomb alert at the nearby Holy Spirit church, a police statement said.

Officers were sent to the scene and noticed a man behaving strangely.

“Initial information has identified him as an Afghan man,” police spokesman Ramona Mock told AFP.

The young man was arrested and all those inside the church were allowed to leave, but the area remained closed for several hours, police said.

Two suspicious objects found in the man’s possession were rendered harmless, the police statement added. There was no explosion or any injuries or damage.

Rail traffic was not affected but passengers were required to use an alternative entrance to the station.
