  1. Fact Checking the New Islamophobia Inflation Hoax Report
Islamophobia hoaxes never die, they become statistics.

Yasmin Seweid, a Muslim college student, claimed that Trump supporters had tried to tear off her hijab on the New York City subway and shouted, “Look it’s a f______ terrorist” and “Go back to your country”.

“The president-elect just promotes this stuff and is very anti-Muslim, very Islamophobic, and he’s just condoning it,” she complained.

    It was all a lie.

Yasmin was charged with filing a false police report on December 2016. On September 2017, she pleaded guilty to falsely reporting an incident and disorderly conduct.

An Islamophobia hoax doesn’t get any more discredited than the Seweid case. But Islamophobia hoaxes never die. They’re rolled into hate crime statistics and reports even when they are completely false.

“Reported anti-Muslim hate incidents, rhetoric rose in year after election, report finds,” NBC News claims. Like The Nation, Think Progress and a variety of other sites, it’s touting a report by South Asian Americans Leading Together or SAALT.

  2. Tusk accuses Austria of fuelling populism as he tells Kurz he MUST accept migrant quotas (express, Feb 13, 2018)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/918500/EU-Donald-Tusk-Sebastian-Kurz-Austria-migration-immigration-quotas

“DONALD Tusk has hit out at new Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz following the pair’s first official meeting in Vienna – with the Europhile implying the Austrian’s opposition to migrant quotas is fuelling populism and dividing the EU.

In their fist meeting on Austrian soil since the election of Mr Kurz, the European Council chief hit out at “destructive emotions” around the relocation of migrants.

Mr Kurz has long made tackling immigration a cornerstone of his political life, a position which helped catapult him towards the nation’s leadership in December last year.

And the Austrian Chancellor has repeatedly opposed the EU’s policy of setting up quotas of migrants for each European country to take on, claiming the scheme “isn’t working”.

Speaking from Vienna, Mr Tusk said: “When it comes to managing illegal migration Chancellor Kurz and I have discussed this many times already, and we have similar views.

“Migration will remain a challenge for many years to come which is why we want to find a solution which is to make sure that the EU together with national states can manage future migration flow sufficiently and without creating new divisions in Europe.

“It is possible but naturally all sides need to compromise.

“Above all we must put an end to the destructive emotions surrounding the issues of relocation as they continue to fuel populism and divide Europe.

“If the issue is not resolved by ministers within the next month, we will need to find a solution at the June European Council.”

Mr Kurz also pledged to hold an EU summit on immigration later this year when his nation takes on the Presidency of the EU council.

Last month Mr Kurz and Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban promised to continue their fight against illegal migration after crunch talks in Vienna.

The pair met with a view to forging closer ties in an increasingly divided EU and to discuss border security and the Balkan migration route.

At a press conference after the talks, Mr Kurz said: “We must stop illegal migration in order to ensure safety across the bloc.

“We have to stop illegal immigration in order to ensure security in Europe.

“I am glad that there has been a change in thinking in many European countries in recent years.”

Mr Orban said the “biggest threat” today was the “mass exodus” from other countries into Europe.

He said: “If we want Schengen, we have to close the external borders and open the internal borders, and today we want to open the external borders and close the internal borders.

“When I say that the future needs to be protected I mean that we have a culture, a Christian culture… We have a way of life, and we want to protect this way of life.””

Wouldn’t it be smarter to start from scratch? Come up with a fancy new dossier (which will turn out to have been funded by Kamala Harris) that alleges Trump is really doing the bidding of Sweden.

It would at least be something new. But instead here we are with a cat gif site hiring Obama’s cybersecurity guy to prove that Michael Cohen was really in Prague instead of at USC. They should have hired a physicist with some familiarity with Heisenberg’s work instead.

    But here we go anyway.

Chief Judge Beryl A. Howell of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia granted the order Monday in response to a Freedom of Information Act request from CNN.

According to the judge’s order, CNN journalist Katelyn Polantz requested on Feb. 9, 2018 that eight sealed matters arising from Starr’s 1998 investigation of Clinton “be unsealed and made public.”

  5. FLASHBACK: Remember the Iraq War White Powder Envelopes Sent to Republicans?
    February 13, 2018
    Daniel Greenfield

Yes, this has been going on for a while.

This incident dates back to the start of the Iraq War, which was the last time that the left went as violently crazy as after Trump’s win.

Envelopes containing white, chalky powder were delivered to four Republican lawmakers Friday, but initial field tests were negative for the presence of anthrax, authorities said.

More tests are planned and an investigation is under way. One source said the FBI has picked up “three batches” of letters.

One congressional aide said he was told by Capitol Police there was nothing to worry about. But further tests, which could take up to three days, are planned to determine if the powder contained any anthrax spores that were killed in the irradiation process that all Capitol mail must go through.

One of the envelopes was sent to House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, and the other three were sent to the offices of freshmen Republican senators: Georgia’s Saxby Chambliss, Minnesota’s Norm Coleman and Tennessee’s Lamar Alexander.

It was not the only such incident. There’s been a string of them. It’s an easy way to intimidate the target. Much like SWATing, it’s become ubiquitous this century. And it doesn’t appear to be going anywhere. Unlike SWATing, it hasn’t gotten anyone killed yet. But it is a reminder that the #resistance is growing more deranged and dangerous.

Aweys Shikhey also allegedly fanaticised about shooting Jewish people near his home in London and attacking Tottenham Hotspur football club with Kenya-based Somalian Abdirahman Idrissa Hassan in conversations dating back to May 31st, 2016.

“It is good to shoot them live,” Mr. Shikhey allegedly said in a chilling message, Court News reports, as well as discussing details of the plot including weapons and ammunition.

“May God bestow you in killing [former Prime Minister] David Cameron and the old woman [Queen] Elizabeth,” Mr. Hassan is claimed to have replied to Mr. Shikhey in another message.

  9. Deadliest clashes since Cold War? U.S. airstrikes kill scores of Russian mercenaries in Syria
Some 200 contractors, mostly Russians fighting for Bashar al-Assad, died in a failed attack on a base and refinery held by the U.S. and its allies

(Bloomberg) — U.S. forces killed scores of Russian contract soldiers in Syria last week in what may be the deadliest clash between citizens of the former foes since the Cold War, according to a U.S. official and three Russians familiar with the matter.

More than 200 mercenaries, mostly Russians fighting on behalf of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, died in a failed attack on a base and refinery held by U.S. and U.S.-backed forces in the oil-rich Deir Ezzor region, two of the Russians said. The U.S. official put the death toll at about 100, with 200 to 300 injured.

The Russian assault may have been a rogue operation, underscoring the complexity of a conflict that started as a domestic crackdown only to morph into a proxy war involving Islamic extremists, stateless Kurds and regional powers Iran, Turkey and now Israel. Russia’s military said it had nothing to do with the attack and the U.S. military accepted the claim. U.S. Defence Secretary Jim Mattis called the whole thing “perplexing,” but provided no further details.

  11. Report: Third Phase of Nunes’ Investigation Will Focus on Obama CIA Director John Brennan

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) is next planning to investigate the role former CIA Director John Brennan and other Obama intelligence officials played in promoting the unverified dossier on Trump, according to a new report.

“In phase three, the involvement of the intelligence community will come into sharper focus,” a senior investigator told RealClearInvestigation’s Paul Sperry in a report.

Nunes will also focus on President Obama’s first CIA Director Leon Panetta, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former National Security Adviser Susan Rice, and former Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power, among others, the report said.

“John Brennan did more than anyone to promulgate the dirty dossier,” the investigator told Sperry. “He politicized and effectively weaponized what was false intelligence against Trump.”

The first part of Nunes’ investigation revealed in a memo earlier this month that the FBI used the dossier to obtain a surveillance warrant on a former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser Carter Page. It also revealed that the FBI also used a Yahoo News story to obtain the warrant, even though dossier author Christopher Steele was also the source for that story.

  12. Democratic Campaigns Just Unionized

A number of Democratic congressional campaigns are banding together with a new union whose mission is to unite campaign staffers across the nation.

The Campaign Workers Guild (CWG) announced a deal Monday with Democrat Randy Bryce’s campaign — the Wisconsin challenger of Speaker of the House Paul Ryan — that would ensure campaign staffers get paid time off and at least $3,000 per month. The contract also includes a $500 reimbursement for health insurance and a system of reporting sexual harassment claims.

The deal marks the first of its kind in a midterm election cycle.

CWG is also reportedly in talks with other congressional campaigns and one gubernatorial campaign. The group’s ultimate goal is to have a collective bargaining agreement that would include every local, state and federal campaign and other progressive ballot initiatives, like the Fight for $15 movement.

  13. Dead Filipina found in Kuwait triggers total workers ban (asiancorrespondent, Feb 13, 2018)
    https://asiancorrespondent.com/2018/02/dead-filipina-found-inside-freezer-kuwait-triggers-total-workers-deployment-ban/#dE4u9hi2vuxqJMJG.97

“THE Philippines “won’t anymore” send Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) to the State of Kuwait after the cadaver of a Filipina domestic worker was recently found stored in a freezer at an apartment in the oil-rich Arab nation, officials said.

Labour Secretary Silvestre Bello III signed Administrative Order to totally ban the deployment of Filipino workers to Kuwait – where some 250,000 Filipinos are working primarily as domestic helpers – which took effect on Monday.

The Philippines is one of the world’s largest exporters of labour, including domestic workers, whose remittances of over $2 billion annually are a major contributor to the country’s economy.

Last week, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the banning of OFW deployment to the Gulf state after the dead body of Joanna Daniella Demafelis, 29, was discovered cramped inside a freezer in an abandoned apartment.

Her remains showed signs of foul play and were found hidden in the freezer for over a year allegedly by her Lebanese employers who left Kuwait in November 2016, authorities said. Demafelis’ family members have sought the help of the Philippine government in the quest for justice for the victim.

In January, the Philippines’ Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) suspended the deployment of OFWs to Kuwait after seven Filipina domestic workers were reported to have died allegedly from abuses.

Bello, in totally banning OFW deployment to Kuwait, said in the order: “In pursuit of national interest, and with the advent of the series of reports involving abuse and death of Overseas Filipino Workers in Kuwait, a total ban on deployment of all Overseas Filipino Workers to Kuwait pursuant to the directive of the President of the Philippines is hereby enforced.”…”

  14. US pushes motion to put Pakistan on global terrorist-financing watchlist (gulfnews, Feb 13, 2018)
    http://gulfnews.com/news/asia/pakistan/us-pushes-motion-to-put-pakistan-on-global-terrorist-financing-watchlist-1.2173332

“The United States has put forward a motion to place Pakistan on a global terrorist-financing watchlist with an anti-money-laundering monitoring group, according to a senior Pakistani official.

Pakistan has been scrambling in recent months to avert being added to a list of countries deemed non-compliant with terrorist financing regulations by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), a measure that officials fear could hurt its economy.

The United States has been threatening to get tough with Islamabad over its alleged ties with Islamist militants, and last month President Donald Trump’s administration suspended aid worth about $2 billion.

Islamabad, which denies assisting militants in Afghanistan and India, has reacted angrily to US threats of further punitive measures.

A meeting of FATF member states is due to take place next week in Paris, where the organisation could adopt the motion on Pakistan. The FATF, an intergovernmental body based in Paris, sets global standards for fighting illicit finance.

Pakistan’s de facto finance minister, Miftah Ismail, told Reuters that the United States and Britain put forward the motion several weeks ago, and later persuaded France and Germany to co-sponsor it.

“We are now working with the US, UK, Germany and France for the nomination to be withdrawn,” Ismail said, speaking by telephone from Europe. “We are also quite hopeful that even if the US did not withdraw the nomination that we will prevail and not be put on the watchlist.” Pakistan had been on the FATF watchlist from 2012 to 2015.

A senior US official who follows U.S. policy in the region said Pakistan has “always been selective” in cracking down on militants who use its territory as a base.

“It is time for that to stop, and so we are working with our allies, who also are affected, to see effective action against groups such as the Haqqanis and elements of the Taliban,” said the official, referring to militants operating along the border with Afghanistan.

    MONEY FLOWS

The FATF had previously warned Islamabad it could be put back on the watchlist without further efforts to crack down on the flow of funds to militants.

Pakistani officials and Western diplomats say that being put on the FATF watchlist could deal a blow to Pakistan’s economy as it would make it harder for foreign investors and companies to do business in the nuclear-armed South Asian nation.

“If you’re put on a terror watchlist, you’re made to go through all the (extra) scrutiny,” Pakistan’s former counterterrorism chief, Khawaja Khalid Farooq, told Reuters. “It can hurt the economy very badly.” Officials also fear it would be harder and more expensive for Pakistan to borrow money from international debt markets if it was put on the FATF monitoring list.

Ismail said the FATF motion focused on Hafiz Saeed, a Pakistan-based Islamist whom India accuses of masterminding the 2008 Mumbai attacks that killed 166 people. That suggested the United States had put forward the motion at India’s behest, he said.

A spokesperson at the US Embassy in Islamabad said the United States was “absolutely not” acting on behalf of India…”

  15. Watergate, Trumpgate — Time to Counterattack

    Come on, GOP, man up.

I can’t help it. I keep reading story after story, hearing harangue after harangue on the television that the Trump/Russia “collusion” is our era’s Watergate, or maybe even worse. My conclusion, after all of this palaver, is that the news stories are right. What’s happening with Trump today is Watergate all over again.

Only it’s the real Watergate. It’s not the fake history Watergate in which RN was committing terrible crimes and was kicked out of office by brave reporters hiding in garages and a heroic Congress.

The real Watergate was where the greatest Peacemaker the nation has ever known, a man with stupendous accomplishments in foreign affairs, the opening of China, the salvation of Israel, the détente with the Soviets, a President who gave us the EPA, the greatest school desegregation there has ever been, and brought America from chaos to order and progress — was deposed in a coup d’état waged by the mainstream media — notably the three major networks, the New York Times, the Washington Post, allied with what we now know as the Deep State — a permanent, powerful prosecutorial bureaucracy hooked up with a Democrat Congress. That coup d’état ousted the President who won by the largest margin in history in 1972. And what was the great crime that Mr. Nixon did?

Why, that no one knows. It all started with a burglary at the Watergate office building in which a group of Cubans broke into the DNC HQ. No one at all even alleges that RN knew a thing about it in advance. What did he know? That some of his friends knew about it. What was the crime again? That he mentioned — just mentioned — asking the CIA to pull the FBI off the chase. Bad, to be sure. But bad enough to kick out the biggest vote getter in history, who had set the stage for ending the Cold War and saving the world from Armageddon? As bad as smashing Mrs. Clinton’s computer and throwing her emails into the drink and lying to Congress about Benghazi? And how did they do it to Nixon? They got the cool kids, the ones at the anchor desks at the networks, to look solemn and say that RN was a bad guy. They got a special prosecutor appointed whose sole aim was to ruin Nixon. When Nixon fired that wildly partisan prosecutor, to try to get some balance at Justice, that was called a “massacre.”

  16. Egypt army says killed 10 terrorists, arrested 400 as Operation Sinai 2018 continues (ahram, Feb 13, 2018)
    http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/1/64/290881/Egypt/Politics-/Egypt-army-says-killed–terrorists,-arrested–as-O.aspx

“Egyptian security forces killed 10 militants in an exchange of fire and arrested 400 suspects, including foreigners, as part of an ongoing anti-terrorism campaign focused on Sinai that was launched last week, the army said in a statement on Tuesday.

This was the sixth communiqué released by the Egyptian Armed Forces since Operation Sinai 2018 was launched on Friday morning.

The announcement brings to 39 the number of militants the army said were killed over the past five days of its massive operation.

Egypt launched Operation Sinai 2018 on Friday, involving land, naval and air forces, as well as the police and border guards, targeting “terrorist and criminal elements and organizations” in northern and central Sinai, as well as parts of the Nile Delta and the Western Desert.

Police and army units have “eliminated an extremely dangerous terrorist cell consisting of 10 takfiris hiding in a house in the city of Arish after an exchange of fire with the raiding forces, and seized quantities of weapons, ammunition and explosive devices that were in their possession,” the communiqué said.

Four hundred criminals and suspects, including foreigners, have been arrested, it added.

The communiqué said security forces destroyed vehicles, motorbikes and dozens of hideouts and arms depots used by the terrorists. Dozens of explosive devices planted in several areas targeted by the militants as well as an underground depot containing 10 anti-tank mines have also been destroyed, it added.

Border guards and military engineers uncovered and destroyed two tunnel openings believed to be used by terrorists and 15 holes connected to trenches along the border area of the North Sinai governorate.

Forces involved in the operation also uncovered and destroyed nine farms used to grow illegal narcotics and seized tons of drugs, the communiqué said.

Meanwhile, naval units launched four land-to-sea and surface-to-sea missiles as they carried out a series of military exercises in the Mediterranean, while air forces and border guards continue to secure the country’s western and southern borders.

Joint army and police forces have set up around 500 checkpoints and security patrols on main roads and desert areas nationwide as part of Operation Sinai 2018.

Over the past four years, Egypt has been battling a terror campaign, led by Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis, based in the northern part of the Sinai Peninsula that has carried out deadly attacks against security forces and civilians. The army said it has killed hundreds of suspected terrorists in military operations.”

  17. Thousands of sub-Saharan Migrants in Algeria Face Inhumane Treatments: IOM (moroccoworldnews, Feb 13, 2018)
    https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2018/02/240539/tsub-saharan-migrants-algeria-inhumane-treatments-expulsion-iom/

“Public insults, daily humiliations, en masse expulsions, in Algeria, RFI reports, undocumented sub-Saharans live in a constant climate of fear and apprehension.

RFI reported on February 12 that a considerable number of sub-Saharan migrants were packed in what looked more like a sinister detention camp than a migration center in an Algiers suburb, as they awaited expulsion from the country.

Between January and February of this year, 2 to 3 thousand migrants are said to have been forcibly, and in some conditions humiliatingly, deported from Algerian territory.

The migrants are said to have been arrested during night patrols monitored by Algerian Police. They are later packed in Zeralda and other centers established for the purpose of such operations, from where they are allegedly “packaged” in military trucks that “ship them” to Arlit in Niger.

“We are badly treated, and I’m really scared,” one of the deported migrants told RFI, later explaining the inhumane treatments to which they were subjected and fuming about the rampant racism sub-Saharans face in Algeria.

There are rumors of migrants being expulsed from Algerian and left at the mercy of the desert between Arlit in Niger Niger and Tamanrasset in Algeria, where, if they are lucky enough, after hours or days of walk, they can supposedly come across NGO or UN-sponsored missions that host and help migrants in such desperate conditions.

According to RFI, IOM (International Organization for Migration) claims to have saved more than a thousand sub-Saharan migrants from the unspeakable misery and precarious life pervading the daily experiences of sub-Saharan migrants in Algiers and surrounding areas.

Algeria’s migration policy has “hardened”, RFI concluded, citing Abdelmoumène Khelil, a Human Rights activist who said that it is high time that “a public debate on integrating migrants” be held in Algeria.”
