  1. The Movie That Made Moral Idiocy Chic
How “Bonnie and Clyde” represents a milestone in the transformation of American culture.
    January 17, 2018
    Bruce Thornton

Fifty years ago, the movie that changed the movies premiered. Anybody old enough to remember films before “Bonnie and Clyde” can testify to the jolting power of Arthur Penn’s kinetic blend of bluegrass slapstick, Depression-era nostalgia, and gruesome, stylized violence. But something else was revealed then, something that I, just 14 at the time, was too callow and ignorant to notice behind the movie’s aesthetic sheen—the moral idiocy that has since come to define so much of contemporary American popular culture.

“Bonnie and Clyde” staked a claim to a moral seriousness that supposedly validated the stylistic innovations and elevated the film beyond mere flashy entertainment. Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker, played with fashion-magazine glamour by Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, are “just folks,” as Dunaway says in the movie, salt-of-the-earth Americans driven to crime by the machinations of the evil banks they rob for some justified payback, Texan Robin Hoods admired by the common-man victims of American capitalism. Yet “the Man,” embodied in the sadistic Texas Ranger Frank Hamer, wouldn’t let them be, hunting them down and slaughtering them in the film’s famous bloody climax, just after Bonnie and Clyde had finally found the soft-focus sexual fulfillment long a cliché of Hollywood romantic sentiment.

    • HATE PORN – The Most Evil Weapon in the Arsenal of Hollywood’s Cultural Marxists

…[I]f somebody makes a statistically significant portion of the population REALLY, REALLY ANGRY – which you need to recall is a state where thinking is minimal – then it’s “OK” to take revenge. That is the subconscious message. Anger is an excuse for revenge. Completely at odds with the law. And THAT is exactly what is desired.

Yes. Cultural Marxism is simple, but it works. Degrade the enemy to beat the enemy. You degrade everybody a little, some people a lot, and a few people enough to self-destruct, breaking the bonds of society.…

      • Walking Tall was a true story, and not anywhere near the full story. Going into that area and asking questions about what happened back then is still very dangerous.

Unless I am mistaken the pictures taken by Frank Marshell Davis that are shown in the article are the ones that are suppose to be Obama’s mother.

  3. SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — With the reading of their own version of a Declaration of Independence, founders of the state of New California took the first steps to what they hope will eventually lead to statehood.

To be clear, they don’t want to leave the United States, just California.

“Well, it’s been ungovernable for a long time. High taxes, education, you name it, and we’re rated around 48th or 50th from a business climate and standpoint in California,” said founder Robert Paul Preston.

    • Leave LA and the other uber liberal cities on their own. California will probably collapse before the secession movement goes anywhere.

  5. Constitutional Ignorance — Perhaps Contempt
The Electoral College may be “undemocratic,” but there’s a good reason the Founders designed it that way.
    January 17, 2018
    Walter Williams

Hillary Clinton blamed the Electoral College for her stunning defeat in the 2016 presidential election in her latest memoirs, “What Happened?” Some have claimed that the Electoral College is one of the most dangerous institutions in American politics. Why? They say the Electoral College system, as opposed to a simple majority vote, distorts the one-person, one-vote principle of democracy because electoral votes are not distributed according to population.

To back up their claim, they point out that the Electoral College gives, for example, Wyoming citizens disproportionate weight in a presidential election. Put another way, Wyoming, a state with a population of about 600,000, has one member in the U.S. House of Representatives and two members in the U.S. Senate, which gives the citizens of Wyoming three electoral votes, or one electoral vote per 200,000 people. California, our most populous state, has more than 39 million people and 55 electoral votes, or approximately one vote per 715,000 people. Comparatively, individuals in Wyoming have nearly four times the power in the Electoral College as Californians.

Many people whine that using the Electoral College instead of the popular vote and majority rule is undemocratic. I’d say that they are absolutely right. Not deciding who will be the president by majority rule is not democracy. But the Founding Fathers went to great lengths to ensure that we were a republic and not a democracy. In fact, the word democracy does not appear in the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution or any other of our founding documents.

    • The move to eliminate the electoral collage is based on contempt of the Constitution, the Founding Fathers and the voters that don’t vote far left. They want the election to be determined in the big cities that vote disproportionately Democrat. They do not believe that we the people have any right to determine our future, we are suppose to shut up and let our “betters” tell us how to live.

They are so arrogant they think they will avoid the failed states that all Marxist and semi Marist nations become.

  6. Lawmakers in Greece voted Tuesday to limit the powers of Islamic courts operating in a border region that is home to a 100,000-strong Muslim minority, scrapping procedures dating back more than 90 years.

The proposed law passed easily, with backing from parliament’s largest political parties. It eliminates rules that referred many civil cases involving members of the Muslim community to Sharia law courts. Greek courts now will have priority in all cases.

  7. Arabic Classes Overtakes English and French in Sweden (breitbart, Jan 17, 2018)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/01/17/arabic-language-classes-popular-english-french-sweden/

“Arabic language classes for adults are becoming increasingly popular in Sweden with a major adult education federation saying more students are now studying Arabic than English or French.

The Swedish educational association Folkuniversitetet, which focuses on language courses for adults and projects with an “international emphasis”, has seen a surge in the number of adults interested in learning Arabic, Sveriges Radio reports.

Anas Idlibi, who teaches Arabic at campuses in Kristianstad and Hässleholm, said that the number of Arabic classes has dramatically increased since he started teaching at the association.

“I started two years ago with just one course and now we will get nine courses next semester,” Idlibi said.

According to Idlibi, one of the reasons for the spike in students has come from professionals like social workers and others who deal with newly arrived migrants…”

  8. Project Veritas BREAKING: Twitter Bans Political Dissidents for Foreign Governments, “We Do That a Lot for China”

Another Project Veritas undercover investigation has revealed a former Twitter software engineer admitting that Twitter acts under the whims and pressures of foreign governments–notably China–by silencing and banning users at their request.

In an undercover Project Veritas journalist asks Miranda if foreign governments pressure Twitter to ban certain people in their countries. Miranda initially tells the PV journalist that he “cannot disclose that information.”

Another Project Veritas journalist met with Miranda on January 1, 2018. In this meeting, Miranda opened up and admitted that Twitter does in fact ban people at the whims of foreign governments. He also reveals some of the pressures that China in particular puts on Twitter if they do not comply.

  9. Hungary Seeks to Punish those Who Aid Illegal Migration (breitbart, Jan 17, 2018)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/01/17/hungary-seeks-punish-aid-illegal-migration/

“A new set of laws would tax and possibly sanction Hungarian groups assisting illegal migration which receive foreign funding, Hungary’s government said Wednesday.

Such groups would have to register with the courts and pay a 25-percent tax on funds received from abroad, Interior Minister Sandor Pinter said. Groups failing to register, and which authorities consider to be adding illegal migrants, could be fined.

Pinter, without mentioning anyone by name, gave an example of someone providing a smartphone containing maps and other information “showing the way to Europe” to a migrant in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, and part of the “Balkan route” migrants use to try to reach Germany and other destinations in Western Europe.

Also, restraining orders could be issued against Hungarian citizens considered to be “organizing illegal migration,” preventing them from going within eight kilometers (five miles) of Hungary’s Schengen borders, those with countries outside the European Union, like Serbia and Ukraine. Foreigners found to be aiding illegal migrants could be banned from Hungary, Pinter said.

Government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs said the expectations were that Hungarian non-governmental groups “which deal with illegal migrants or the issue of migration will follow the law and indicate to authorities … that they are doing this activity.”

The new laws would apparently not apply to, for example, religious charity groups or the Red Cross, which distribute food, medicines and other aid to migrants.

“Giving assistance is not the same as actively … taking part in someone crossing the border illegally,” Kovacs said.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban is an opponent of immigration, especially by Muslims, and Hungary built long fences along its southern borders in late 2015 to stop the flow of migrants.

The government has dubbed the bills “Stop Soros” laws, as it blames Hungarian-American billionaire and philanthropist George Soros for Europe’s migration challenges, partly because of his funding of groups that advocate for the rights of refugees.

The Hungarian Helsinki Committee, a rights group which provides legal aid to asylum-seekers and receives part of its funding from Soros’ Open Society Foundations, drew attention to the government’s proposed eight-kilometer restraining order and compared it to a 1969 decree by Hungary’s then-communist government prohibiting citizens from going nearer than two kilometers (1.2 miles) from the borders.”

  16. Suspect in terror-related case claims ‘combatant immunity’ (abcnews, Jan 17, 2018)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/suspect-terror-related-case-claims-combatant-immunity-52418455

“A former California college student accused of attempting to provide material support to terrorists in Syria has invoked a rarely used argument in asking a federal judge in Chicago to dismiss the case on grounds he qualifies for immunity commonly bestowed on soldiers.

Lawyers for the 24-year-old Iraqi refugee, Aws Mohammed Younis Al-Jayab, argue in a motion filed late Tuesday that he hooked up with the kinds of Syrian rebels the U.S. has backed to fight Bashar al-Assad’s regime. Prosecutors have said in earlier filings he aligned with groups that had clear terrorist ties.

His lawyers argue the internationally recognized “doctrine of combatant immunity” prohibiting the prosecution of soldiers can be extended to rebel fighters in conflicts where multiple nations have intervened.

    Al-Jayab has pleaded not guilty.”

  18. ‘Racist’ posters removed from University of New Brunswick campus

Posters featuring a “racist and bigoted” message have been removed from a number of buildings on the University of New Brunswick campus in Fredericton.

The posters make inflammatory statements about the former residential school system in Canada and call on readers to reject what it calls an anti-white narrative being pushed in media and academia.

“Overwhelmingly, Native Americans are beneficiaries, and not victims, of the society built by Europeans,” the poster says.

The poster is topped by a Red Ensign flag.

David Stonehouse, a spokesman for the university, said the posters are “racist” and disheartening.

“These posters are being removed as discovered as part of our commitment to a safe and respectful environment for all members of the UNB community,” Stonehouse said in an emailed statement.

“While we encourage and applaud critical thought and respectful dialogue, we do not tolerate disrespect or the marginalization of any group in any form.”

Matthew Sears, an associate professor in classics and ancient history at UNB, said students he has spoken with have been surprised and saddened by the posters.

He used their discovery as an opportunity to address the issue during his classes Tuesday.

Sears said the posters are factually incorrect.

“They were essentially a message of residential school denialism, saying it’s a lie and it’s slander that academics say that Indian residential schools were places of torture and death. It says in fact that European colonialism benefited Indigenous peoples,” Sears said.

“It says ‘natives’ and white Canadians should band together to stand against the foreign invaders, which I took to mean predominantly Muslim immigrants and refugees. It was Islamaphobic and it was racist and bigoted against Indigenous people,” he said.

The posters are anonymous and don’t contain any names or email addresses.

Stonehouse said campus security is investigating and Fredericton police have been made aware of the incident.

“The matter has been assigned to an investigator,” Fredericton police said in an emailed statement Wednesday. “The investigation is ongoing and no other details will be released at this moment in order to protect the integrity of the investigation.”
