    • Yemen: Footage shows launch of ballistic missile aimed at Riyadh airport – Army Media
Footage released by the ‘Yemeni Army Media’ on Sunday is said to capture the launch of a long-range ballistic missile from Yemeni territory a day earlier towards a target north of Riyadh, in Saudi Arabia.

The missile, which allegedly was aimed at the King Khalid International Airport, is said to have been intercepted by Saudi Arabia’s air defence forces. There were reports of a loud blast heard near the airport. However, no casualties were reported and the airport continued to operate according to schedule.

Yemeni Houthi forces have reportedly claimed responsibility for the launch.

  1. Far-right, racist groups are Europe’s ISIL, Turkish minister says (hurriyetdailynews, Nov 4, 2017)
    http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/far-right-racist-groups-are-europes-isil-turkish-minister-says-121903

“Turkey’s European Union affairs minister on Nov. 4 compared far-right groups and racists to terrorist groups, warning of the threat they pose to everyone in Europe.

“Far-right groups and racists are tantamount to Daesh,” Ömer Çelik told Turkish broadcaster CNN Türk in an interview.

Çelik said that if these groups grow stronger, it would be a “great threat to democratic, innocent people in Europe as well as to Muslims and Turks”.

The rise of right-wing populists across Europe, many of them espousing anti-Muslim and anti-migrant rhetoric, has alarmed Turkey in recent years.

Asked about recent European developments from Brexit to separatism in Catalonia, Çelik said Europe’s prosperity and stability should be protected for Turkey’s national interests.

Çelik also criticized European demands that Turkey change its anti-terrorism law as part of its EU membership bid, saying they are trying to impose an outside agenda.

“Instead of coming up with a proper proposal to Turkey under the name of ‘will to reform,’ they only come with a proposal from their own agendas. This prevents a will to reform from developing,” he said.

“Under these circumstances, there is no such thing as Turkey letting up in its fight against terrorism”, Çelik added.”

    • If Turkey and other Islamic nations weren’t trying to colonize Europe the nationalists wouldn’t be growing in power.

    https://tribune.com.pk/story/1550166/1-pakistan-12m-hepatitis-b-c-patients/

“Minister for National Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar addressed the World Hepatitis Summit in the Brazilian city of Sao Paolo on Saturday.

According to a message received here, she shared that Pakistan has about 12 million people suffering from hepatitis B or C.

Considering that Pakistan has one of the highest burden of disease with regard to Hepatitis B and C in the EMRO region comprising 22 countries, there was a need to have in place a consensus National Strategic framework to control the spread of the disease. It is with this objective that our Ministry in partnership with the provinces launched Pakistan National Hepatitis Strategy Framework to eliminate the disease by the year 2030…”

    • Pakistan has about 12m hepatitis B or C patients

One can only speculate as to whether the inbreeding which results from over a millennia of consanguineous marriage has anything to do with reduced immunological function that might, otherwise, resist the onset of hepatitis.

Whatever the case, I have ceased to feel much in the way of sympathy for these cretins. Not too long ago, I would likely have made an exception for infants and children. That is no longer the case as far too many of them now blow grow up to become mass murderers.

Young Muslims … they blow up so fast.

    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/875433/Black-Death-plague-2017-madagascar-outbreak-africa-world-health-organisation-virus-uganda

“A DEADLY outbreak of a rare and highly fatal virus has broken out in eastern Uganda and five cases have already been identified, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has confirmed.

The disease, known as Marburg virus disease (MVD), is similar to Ebola and can be lethal in up to 90 per cent of cases.

Emergency screening has begun at the Kenya-Uganda border in Turkana after three members of the same family died of the disease in Uganda.

The outbreak is thought to have started in September when a man in his 30s, who worked as a game hunter and lived near a cave with a heavy presence of bats, was admitted to a local health centre with a high fever, vomiting and diarrhoea.

He did not respond to antimalarial treatment and his condition rapidly deteriorated…”

  4. Christians pelted with ROCKS in shocking attack on town – four churches forced to shut (express, Nov 5, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/875058/coptic-christians-attacked-mina-egypt

“FOUR churches have been forced to shut after Christian worshipers were pelted with rocks in a shocking series of attacks.

The coordinated attacks took place in the Egyptian region of Minya, south of Cairo, where church leaders are now pleading for support.

After keeping quiet for two weeks to help officials carry out investigations, Coptic Orthodox leaders have now spoken out and accused Egypt of treating Christian prayers “as a crime”.

They said they were forced to close four churches after furious locals launched vicious attacks on worshippers, emboldened by a lack of police support.

Terrified church leaders were forced to close one church for the safety of their congregations – something which then encouraged mobs to attack three others.

And authorities are doing nothing to bring those responsible to justice, the Coptic Orthodox leader in Minya said…”

  8. Cry havoc: Iran completes land bridge to Syria; all hell starts breaking loose
    By J.E. Dyer November 5, 2017

Americans were startled to learn on Saturday that Lebanon’s Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri had resigned abruptly – addressing his nation from a remote perch in Saudi Arabia – and within a short time, Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen had fired a ballistic missile at King Khalid International Airport near the Saudi capital of Riyadh.

The Saudis intercepted the incoming missile. They were also busy throughout the day on Saturday rounding up princes and arresting them, in order to consolidate power in the Kingdom.

Lebanon will be left with Hezbollah to decide what comes next there. Whatever the Saudis’ next move is, it won’t be brokering a follow-on coalition in Lebanon under the now-ended status quo. Riyadh has effectively checked out of that loop for the time being.

…ran knows she cannot simply marshal forces and attack Israel, for example. Not at the moment. But that is what the mullahs have in mind, along with a vision for a Shia caliphate to which the rest of the West will be subjugated. The question is not whether the revolutionary leadership will pursue that goal, but exactly how……

Richard: Read the entire article and think long and hared about what it says. Yucki has covered this subject with articles about what Israel is thinking and doing. This is bad, very bad news for Europe and the US, it places our remaining allies in the Middle East square in the Iranian rifle sights. It will take time for Iran to consolidate the gains and make sure their land bridge is secure but when they feel secure they are now in a position to dominate the entire Middle East and to move the Iranian Navy into the Med. and threaten all commerce that travels from any nation to Europe. They are also (check out the maps in the article) In position to .take out Jordan and Saudi, they are now threatening Saudi on three fronts and this places Saudi in a very scary position.

Just to add some spice to the mess remember one of Iran’s close allies is North Korea.

      • Even worse, Syria is also a vector:
North Korea’s Alliance with Syria Reveals a Wider Proliferation Threat

According to U.S., Arab, and Israeli officials, North Korea’s Kim Jong-un has continued to supply weapons and military equipment to Damascus throughout the six-year conflict despite facing numerous international sanctions.

In recent months, UN investigators have uncovered North Korean supplies being smuggled to Syria’s Scientific Studies and Research Center (SSRC), the secretive body that oversees Assad’s chemical weapons program.

Syrian opposition groups and the UN also allege that North Korean military advisors are present inside the country to help Assad.

Many U.S. officials consider North Korea’s construction of a graphite reactor in Syria’s Deir al-Zour province as one of the greatest acts of nuclear proliferation in history.

Called al-Kibar, the facility was almost an exact replica of the Yongbyon reactor that North Korea has used to harvest plutonium for its own nuclear weapons arsenal.

The Syrian reactor was close to being operational when Israeli jets destroyed it in 2007, killing a number of North Korean technicians working there.

      • Increasing Operational Coordination between Hizbullah and Hamas

The new deputy chairman of Hamas’ Political Bureau, Salah al-Aruri, along with a few dozen Hamas operatives, has taken up residence in the heart of the Dahiya neighborhood of Beirut, which is considered Hizbullah’s stronghold. According to senior Israeli security sources, al-Aruri is setting up a branch of Hamas in Lebanon that will be attached to Hizbullah’s headquarters. Hizbullah takes direct orders from Iran.

Hamas made a strategic decision to transfer civilian control of Gaza to the Palestinian Authority without relinquishing its military power. It will then be free to invest resources in building up a large military force, like Hizbullah’s in Lebanon, for a future war with Israel.

Iran plans to put Israel between the hammer of Hizbullah in the north and the anvil of Hamas in the south, with tens of thousands of missiles aimed at Israel.

North Korea yeah they will sell anything to anyone, which is why Iran has nuclear weapons. Although it is really China doing the selling and using North Korea as the visible agent to give them cover when the sane people protest.

When the bio weapons are used it will be either North Korea or Cuba that is supplying them.

  9. Libyan Comic Con raided by armed militants for ‘attack on Islam and fascination with foreigners’ (RT, Nov 5, 2017)
    https://www.rt.com/news/408816-libya-comic-con-blasphemy/

“A comic convention was deemed blasphemous in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, where an Islamist paramilitary group shut down a gathering of superhero fans for “inciting violence,” detaining and reportedly beating some 20 participants.

The second Libyan Comic Con opened in Tripoli on Thursday, bringing together local comic book lovers and cosplayers who dressed up as their favorite heroes. The party, however, was crashed on Friday by the so-called RADA Special Deterrence Forces (SDF) paramilitary group, which raided the event, detained some 20 people and seized computers and other equipment.

“They arrested over 20 people. Organizers, participants and visitors. Anyone who was wearing a badge, including visitors, were arrested – thinking they were organizers because they wore a badge,” an organizer told the Libya Herald online daily, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The militants told the detainees, according to the anonymous organizer, that they had committed an impressive number of crimes against public morals, which included agnosticism, atheism, masonic ideas, believing in Halloween, distorting the minds of youth and even abandoning Islam altogether.

The SDF militants said they were “rescuing” the youth from Comic Con, an event they called “destructive” and “foreign” to Islam and Libya. “This sort of festival imported from abroad exploits the weakness in their religious faith and their fascination with foreign cultures,” the SDF statement read.

The purported dangers include “dissemination of pornography” and even encouraging young people to use “sharp tools and kill.” As evidence, the statement cited artworks depicting violent scenes.

SDF had no problem with real world violence, though…”

  10. Lebanese president won’t accept PM’s resignation until he returns: sources

Lebanon’s president will not accept the resignation of prime minister Saad al-Hariri until he returns to Lebanon, palace sources said on Sunday, delaying for now politically difficult consultations on his successor.

Hariri left Lebanon for Saudi Arabia on Friday and resigned on Saturday in a televised statement that took the Lebanese political establishment by surprise.

He cited an assassination plot against him and criticized the regional role of Iran and its Lebanese ally Hezbollah however Lebanon’s army said on Sunday it had not uncovered any plot.

The move has thrust Lebanon back into the arena of regional rivalry between Sunni Muslim Saudi Arabia, an ally of Hariri, and Shi‘ite Muslim Iran, which backs Hezbollah.

President Michel Aoun, a political ally of Hezbollah, will wait to accept or reject Hariri’s resignation until he returns to Lebanon to explain his reasons, sources at the presidential palace said.

Saudi-owned newspaper Asharq al-Awsat cited unnamed sources close to Hariri as speculating that he would probably remain outside Lebanon because of the security threat against him.

Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh sought to calm fears the political turmoil unleashed by Hariri’s bid to resign would hit Lebanon’s already fragile economy, issuing a statement to reaffirm the stability of its currency, which is pegged against the U.S. dollar.

In Lebanon’s sectarian system the president must be a Maronite Catholic, the prime minister a Sunni and the speaker of parliament a Shi‘ite. Hariri is Lebanon’s most influential Sunni politician.

His father, Rafik al-Hariri, was prime minister after Lebanon’s 1975-1990 civil war and was assassinated in a car bombing in 2005.

A U.N.-backed tribunal has indicted five Hezbollah members for the killing but the group denies any involvement.

  11. Berlin Politicians Call Special Meeting Over Fears Organized Arab Criminals Have Infiltrated Police Force (breitbart, Nov 5, 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/11/05/berlin-politicians-call-special-meeting-fears-organized-arab-criminals-infiltrated-police-force/

“The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Free Democratic Party (FDP) have called for a special meeting of the Berlin government over allegations that organised Arab criminal gangs have infiltrated the police force.

Members of the conservative CDU, which is headed by Chancellor Angela Merkel, and the libertarian FDP have expressed serious concerns after hearing leaked audio from the Berlin police academy earlier this week.

The audio, which recorded an instructor at the Berlin police academy, contains information that has led many to believe relatives of organized criminals may have become police officers, Die Welt reports.

CDU spokesman Burkard Dregger said that Social Democrat (SPD) Berlin Interior Minister Andreas Geisel must take the allegations of infiltration seriously.

“We demand a special meeting of the Interior Committee on the negative developments at the Police Academy,” Dregger said.

The leaked audio also noted many problems with police recruits from migrant backgrounds, claiming that many of the recruits had severe difficulties reading and writing in German.

The unidentified instructor also said that some of the recruits had even threatened violence toward other officers and warned that they would become corrupt if put out on the streets.

The police confirmed the audio recording to be legitimate soon after the original article was published, and later even admitted that some of the police candidates had come from criminal backgrounds.

Berlin has become inundated with criminal gangs, especially organised Arab clans which have taken over large parts of the city’s drug trade in recent years. The clans have even been accused of visiting asylum homes to recruit migrants as low-level street dealers.

Migrant gangs have also turned several areas of Berlin into what some are now calling No Go Zones, like the area around the Alexanderplatz metro where police are now increasing their presence in an attempt to restore order to the troubled area.

The Kottbusser Tor metro station, known locally as “Kotti”, has also been a longstanding area for drug dealing, and last year a veteran drug dealer complained that it too had largely been taken over by migrants.”

    https://voiceofeurope.com/2017/11/greece-mma-trained-schoolgirl-beats-migrant-tries-rob-assault/

“A migrant in Greece chose the wrong victim for a robbery on the island of Samos last Friday. A schoolgirl was on her way to her mother when the unknown man tried to rob her.

The immigrant tried three to four times to grab her bag but the girl didn’t let it go. He also made obscene gestures and moves towards the girl which would probably be categorised as sexual assault.

The migrant obviously had no idea the young girl trained in martial arts and had her own plan. She kept her cool and suddenly attacked him. As a result the migrant fell to the ground.

The young girl escaped and told her parents which was then reported to the Samos police department.”

  13. Tariq Ramadan accused of ‘seducing his teenage students’

It is the latest in a string of damning allegations against the renowned Oxford professor

Tariq Ramadan is said to have seduced four of his teenage pupils in shocking new allegations against the prominent Islamic scholar.

According to The Tribune de Geneve newspaper, the incidents took place in the 1980s and 1990s when he was teaching in his hometown of Geneva.

Four of his former students have come forward with this new information. One of them claimed that he tried unsuccessfully to seduce her when she was just 14 years old. He allegedly targeted three others, who were aged between 15 and 18 years old at the time, according to the newspaper’s report.

It is the latest in a string of damning allegations about Mr Ramadan, who is a professor at Oxford University and the grandson of the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. Three women have accused him of rape or sexual assault in the past two weeks, providing graphic details in interviews and on social media. After the first accusation, Mr Ramadan issued a strong denial and filed counter-charges for libel.

The Tribune de Geneve said that four Swiss women, all non-Muslim, had agreed to testify about their former teacher’s alleged behaviour towards them when they were just teenagers.

They described how they felt Mr Ramadan, who worked as the professor of French and Philosophy at the Cycle of Coudriers and then at the College de Saussure in Switzerland, exercised a strong psychological influence on them.

One, known as Sandra, was 15 when Mr Ramadan made advances towards her. She said he told her: “I feel close to you. You are mature. You are special. I am surrounded by many people but I feel lonely.” She started spending time with him outside of school, and “two or three times we had intimate relationships. At the back of his car”. She added: “He said it was our secret.”

Another, Lea, said she was 14 years old when the teacher approached her during a trip. “He put my hand on my mouth telling me he knew I was thinking about him in the evening before falling asleep. Which was wrong. It was manipulation. He said he thought of me but he was married.”

In her case, she says nothing physical happened. She described him as a “crooked, intimidating man who used perverse relational ploys and abused the trust of his students. There was such an impression on us.”

A third woman, known as Agathe, was 18 and described being “captivated by the speech of this charismatic teacher”. She said Mr Ramadan invited her for a coffee outside of school, “and then I had sex with him. He was married and a father. This happened three times, especially in his car. It was consented but very violent. I had bruises all over my body.”

Agathe says the scholar threatened her and demanded she tell no one about the encounters. “It was an abuse of power, pure and simple.”

The fourth woman, Claire, was 17 when the pair started a relationship and 18 when they first had intercourse. “I was fascinated, under his control. He took me, threw me, established a relationship of dependence.”

None of these incidents was made public before now, with one of the women expressing feelings of “disgust” and “shame” which made her stay quiet.

Several former officials contacted by the Tribune de Geneve said they had heard rumours of Mr Ramadan’s predatory behaviour, but denied actual knowledge of the acts.

“If the facts are true, we are deeply shocked,” Pierre-Antoine Preti, head of communications at the Department of Education, told the newspaper.

The latest revelations suggest that Mr Ramadan may have been abusing women, including underage girls, long before the recent cases in France. The Paris authorities have opened an investigation after two women accused him of rape and a third accused him of sexual assault.

Last Saturday, Mr Ramadan wrote on his Facebook page: “These accusations are simply false, and betray all the ideals I have long strived for and believed in.”

Supporters of Mr Ramadan are describing the accusations against him part of a Zionist plot to destroy his name.

But other former friends have come forward in recent days to disparage him.

Stephane Lathion, a Swiss specialist in Islam who spent years accompanying Mr Ramadan on his trips across Europe, told the Tribune de Geneve that he had heard various rumours and suspicions about his former close associate’s behaviour over the years.

He shared his opinion with the paper, saying: “I’m not surprised to see testimonials coming from everywhere. Not only are the reported facts shocking, but they also reveal the discrepancy between his attitude and his discourse on a moralising Islam, which advocates sexual relations in the exclusive context of marriage.”

He continued: “Tariq Ramadan is a predator who has abused his power as a teacher, preacher and intellectual to seduce women and girls, who have suffered.”

  15. GERMANY – University Creates Religious Conduct Code Because Muslim Students Pray Too Loudly, Flood Bathrooms

A moderately prestigious university in Germany has instituted a religious code of conduct in response to complaints about Muslim students praying noisily in the library and flooding campus bathrooms with water as they ritually cleanse their feet.

The University of Hamburg is the site of the new set of religion-related rules, reports Times Higher Education, a London-based education news website.

The 42,890-student university is the first in Germany to institute such a code.

The University of Hamburg’s executive board determined that the religious code of conduct is necessary after receiving numerous complaints.

In addition to the bathroom flooding and the loud library praying, people described as “external Salafists” have demanded that female Muslim students wear veils on campus, according to school president Dieter Lenzen.

“To date, there have been no complaints about Buddhist students, just a few about Christian students, but a great many about Muslim students,” Lenzen also said, according to Times Higher Education.

Muslim students have been “disturbing university life,” Lenzen said.

The University of Hamburg’s new religious code of conduct — released in October — forbids students from praying loudly anywhere on campus. However, “quiet prayer may be acceptable in the library.”

The code also outlaws “discrimination against male or female visitors by dividing the room according to sex/gender” in the school’s Room of Contemplation, an area reserved for religious observance.

Prior to the implementation of the new code, and without permission from school officials, some Muslim students at the University of Hamburg had installed a curtain separating men and women for prayers in the Room of Contemplation.

Another part of the religious code of conduct formally allows campus restaurants to ignore requests for food items “in line with religious dietary guidelines and restrictions.”

Still another code section states that students cannot request time off for religious festivals and holidays. Students must “bear the consequences” if professors don’t want to make special accommodations.

“Neither course schedules nor other university events are organized in accordance with religious requirements,” the code observes.

The code takes no position on full veils, partial veils or any other kind of religious clothing. Such clothing “in the classroom is not in itself disruptive” “providing the self-evident demands of academic exchange and exams are not impacted.”

“The German Constitution does not provide any legal basis for preventing specific religious practices, unless these disrupt the purpose of the respective establishment,” Lenzen, the University of Hamburg president, told Times Higher Education.

The University of Hamburg, founded in 1919, is ranked #223 in the QS World University Rankings, a few notches behind the University of Notre Dame.

In the late 1990s, the German city of Hamburg was home to a group of radical Islamists — the Hamburg cell — which included Mohamed Atta and several other September 11 terrorists.

  19. CANADA – Ex-Guantanamo captive plans to sue Canada for $50 million for alleged complicity in his torture

Djamel Ameziane’s unproven allegations have raised further questions about Canada’s complicity in the abuse of detainees at Guantanamo Bay

TORONTO — An Algerian man is set to sue the federal government for the abuses he says he suffered at the hands of American security forces after he left Canada 15 years ago.

The unproven allegations by Djamel Ameziane, who was never charged or prosecuted, raise further questions about Canada’s complicity in the abuse of detainees at Guantanamo Bay — a topic his lawyer said demands a full-scale public inquiry.

“My current situation is really bad. I am struggling to survive,” Ameziane, 50, said from near Algiers. “I was repatriated from Guantanamo and left, like, almost homeless. I couldn’t find a job because of the Guantanamo stigma and my age, so a settlement would be very helpful to me to get my life back together.”

In a draft statement of claim obtained by The Canadian Press, Ameziane seeks damages of $50 million on the grounds that Canada’s security services co-operated with their U.S. counterparts even though they knew the Americans were abusing him.

“The Crown’s conduct constituted acquiescence and tacit consent to the torture inflicted upon the plaintiff,” the lawsuit alleges.

Canadian intelligence, the suit alleges, began sharing information with the Americans after failing to pick up on the 1999 “Millennium plot” in which Abdul Ressam, another Algerian who had been living in Montreal, aimed to blow up the Los Angeles airport. After 9/11, Canadian agents interrogated Ameziane at the infamous American prison in Cuba, as they did Canada’s Omar Khadr, according to the claim.

Ameziane’s Edmonton-based lawyer, Nate Whitling, said the government’s recent out-of-court settlement — worth a reported $10.5 million — with Khadr over violation of his rights has prevented scrutiny of Canada’s alleged complicity in abuses at Guantanamo Bay. A judicial inquiry is needed, Whitling said.

“Only then can the Canadian public come to understand the extent to which Canada is responsible for the torture of innocent detainees in the aftermath of 9/11,” Whitling said.

The lawyer, who said he planned to file the lawsuit in Court of Queen’s Bench in Edmonton on Monday, said Ameziane would be prepared to put the claim on hold in exchange for an inquiry. Whitling also said two other people planned similar suits that name the federal government, RCMP and Canadian Security and Intelligence Service.

Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale had no comment given the pending legal proceedings.

The U.S. detained Ameziane at Guantanamo Bay for more than 11 years until his release in December 2013.

“For many years, I had the idea of suing the Canadian government, but didn’t know how, and honestly didn’t know it was possible until I read the news about the settlement of Omar Khadr, who was my fellow inmate in Guantanamo Bay,” Ameziane said. “The action I am taking may also make (Canadian officials) think twice before acting against the interests of Canada and Canada’s human values.”

According to his claim, Ameziane left Algeria in the 1990s to escape rising violence there. After working as a chef in Austria, he came to Canada in December 1995 and asked for refugee status. He lived in Montreal for five years, attending mosques where the Americans said members of al-Qaida prayed.

When Canada rejected his request for asylum, Ameziane opted to go to Afghanistan rather than Algeria, where he feared abuse. He left Afghanistan for Pakistan in October 2001 when fighting erupted, but was captured and turned over to American forces in exchange for a bounty, his claim states.

The Americans first took him to a detention facility in Kandahar, where he alleges guards brutalized him, then sent him to Guantanamo Bay based partly on information provided by Canadian intelligence, according to his claim.

Ameziane, who denies any terrorism links, says Canadian agents interviewed him in Guantanamo in February and May 2003 and turned over recordings of the interrogations to the Americans. They did so, he claims, despite widespread allegations that U.S. forces were abusing detainees and even though they knew he faced no charges and had no access to a lawyer or the courts.

Ameziane alleged American officials interrogated him hundreds of times and abused him when they decided he wasn’t co-operating. The abuse, he alleges, included sleep-deprivation, intrusive genital searches, pepper-spraying, waterboarding, being left in freezing conditions, and having his head slammed against walls and the floor, dislocating his jaw.

“Canadian officials came to interview me on two occasions (and) they not only shared information about me with my American torturers, but even tried to get information out of me that had nothing to do with Canada in order to help my American torturers,” Ameziane said. “I refused to answer questions. After that, I was subjected to a worse treatment by the Americans.”

  20. PARADISE PAPERS –

CBC -Trudeau’s chief fundraiser linked to Cayman Islands tax scheme

Massive offshore leak reveals secrets of Stephen Bronfman’s company

In the early summer of 2015, Justin Trudeau was the star attraction at a private fundraiser in Montreal hosted by philanthropist and financier Stephen Bronfman.

Bronfman, an heir to the Seagram family fortune and a close Trudeau family friend, was revenue chair of the Liberal Party. That day, according to news reports, the two men raised $250,000 in under two hours.

Within weeks, the Liberals would launch their federal election campaign, sweeping to power on a “Real Change” platform that focused on the middle class and a promise to tax the rich.

“Our government has long known — indeed, we got elected — on a promise to make sure that people were paying their fair share of taxes,” Trudeau said shortly after his election victory. “Tax avoidance, tax evasion is something we take very seriously.”

But an investigation by the CBC, Radio-Canada and the Toronto Star has found that Bronfman and his Montreal-based investment company, Claridge Inc., were key players linked to a $60-million US offshore trust in the Cayman Islands that may have cost Canadians millions in unpaid taxes.

It’s a 24-year paper trail of confidential memos and private records involving two prominent families with Liberal Party ties that experts say appear to show exploitation of legal tax loopholes, disguised payments and possible “sham” transactions.

    Among the key questions raised:

Is the trust subject to Canadian tax law?
Was the trust managed offshore — or in Canada?
Were “gifts” made to disguise payments?
    Were there false invoices?
    Are taxes owed in Canada?
“I would say there are lots of red flags, and I would expect tax authorities specifically to be very interested in following up,” said University of Florida trust law professor Grayson McCouch after spending two days examining the files.

Denis Meunier, a former senior enforcement official at the agency who also reviewed key documents in the leak, said “this definitely merits an audit by the [Canada Revenue Agency].”

Part of massive financial data leak

The documents are part of a massive offshore leak released today dubbed the “Paradise Papers,” which was obtained by the German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung and shared with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ). It’s a cache of nearly 13.4 million files from two offshore services firms and 19 different tax havens.

Seven million of the leaked files come from the corporate law firm Appleby, which has operations in Bermuda, the Cayman Islands and other offshore jurisdictions.

The CBC/Toronto Star investigation also reveals how Bronfman’s longtime law firm — which also represented other offshore clients — helped mount a lobbying campaign in Ottawa that for several years fought legislation designed to crack down on offshore trusts.

At the centre of the revelations is an offshore entity in the Cayman Islands called the Kolber Trust. It was set up in 1991 by Leo Kolber, who at the time was Claridge chairman and also a Liberal senator. Kolber had been a major Liberal Party fundraiser and once jokingly referred to himself as the Bronfman family’s “consigliere.”

The Paradise Papers show that Leo Kolber’s children, Jonathan and Lynne, were the beneficiaries of the trust. Internal financial records show they received millions of dollars in “disbursements.”

In 2007, for example, $3 million US was wired to Jonathan Kolber for “living expenses” and to help purchase a Manhattan apartment. In total, he received $16.5 million US tax-free from the trust. The documents also show his sister Lynne received $1.2 million US.

The Kolber Trust had another purpose, too. The Bronfman empire was expanding into Israel and, after working for Claridge in Montreal alongside his father and Stephen Bronfman, Jonathan Kolber then moved to Israel in 1991 to head up the Bronfman efforts.

According to one memo, “for every dollar the Bronfmans invested in Israel Jonathan’s reward was a 15 per cent share” paid through the trust. “This is how and why the trust was set up.”

The Paradise Papers show that senior executives of Stephen Bronfman’s company, Claridge, were routinely offering advice and arranging business transactions between the Bronfman family and the Kolber Trust.

The leaked documents reveal that while Claridge had no official role in the Kolber Trust, most of the initial funding came from the Bronfman family in various forms. Stephen Bronfman personally gave a $5 million US interest-free loan to the Trust in 1997, which was repaid in five months.

Over the lifetime of the trust, the Bronfman family and their U.S.-based trusts loaned the Kolber Trust more than $34 million US. And all of it ended up in the no-tax Cayman Islands.

Stephen Bronfman and Leo Kolber declined requests for an interview. William Brock, a lawyer representing Stephen Bronfman and Jonathan Kolber, denied any impropriety. “My clients have always acted properly and ethically, including fully complying with all applicable laws and requirements.”

He stated that any “suggestion of false documentation, fraud, ‘disguised’ conduct, tax evasion or similar conduct is false.”

    Managed in Canada?

Offshore trusts can be perfectly legal. They are not subject to Canadian law so long as they meet certain conditions.

And for the Canada Revenue Agency, the most important rule for offshore trusts is that they really did have to be offshore — that’s where the decisions, the so-called “mind and management,” had to be made.

Yet the Paradise Papers — which contain more than 5,000 documents from the Kolber Trust file alone — reveal numerous examples where decisions were made and approved not in the Caymans, but in Canada.

There are memos seeking the “approval,” “authorization” and “written confirmation” for business decisions from Montreal-based investment manager and accountant Don Chazan. The Paradise Papers also show there are phone calls and meetings in Montreal between Chazan and Jonathan Kolber.

  21. Why Bahrain Is Leading Gulf Arab Outreach to Israel

In recent weeks, the Kingdom of Bahrain has emerged as the Gulf Arab country most actively pursuing better relations with Israel, both for reasons of its own and, presumably, with the blessing of its principal benefactor, Saudi Arabia.

Quiet contacts have been maintained since at least 1994. In September, at the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles, Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa expressed opposition to the ongoing Arab League economic boycott of Israel and said that citizens of Bahrain and Israel should feel free to visit each other’s countries without restrictions.

If shared concerns about Iran’s influence lie at the core of potential improved relations between Gulf Arab countries and Israel, Bahrain has a particular incentive to explore the possibilities since Iran has a history of claiming Bahrain as part of its own territory.

Moreover, Bahrain is almost certainly acting on behalf of Saudi Arabia and some of its other GCC allies in taking the lead in exploring the potential for dialogue with Israel. Nonetheless, without any significant progress on Palestinian issues, the political space for such a dialogue will remain limited.

    • Total bravo sierra. Putting a smiley-face on having to depend on Israel against the common [current] enemy, the Twisted-Raghead Shittes of Iran.

Raghead-led Bahrain has a Twisted-Raghead majority; they’re all in deep doo-doo. The tribal chieftain senses the strong horse, follows it instinctively. When the Persian pony rides in seductively, watch these sand-devils fold their tents fast, hightail it to Saudi.

  22. Important article by Dr Mark Durie in November issue of Aussie conservative intellectual magazine Quadrant:
‘Calling for Violent Jihad in Australia
There is not a Bible, Jewish or Christian, containing such incendiary commentary as populates page after page of ‘The Noble Qur’an’, which for four years has preached to the faithful in Canberra Airport’s prayer room. The ideology it promotes is violent jihad. It is a book to start a war….
…. Among the Saudis’ exported Korans is an English-language edition, The Noble Qur’an, which can be found in mosques, prayer rooms and meeting places around the world. Anyone who applies to the Saudi embassy in Canberra will be sent a copy gratis.
The Noble Qur’an can be found in the musallah or prayer room of Canberra’s airport. What is apparently the same edition, with “AIRPORT MUSALLAH” written in black marker pen on the page ends, has been sitting there for the past four years, ever since the new airport was built. The Noble Qur’an is also publicly available in other “multi-faith” spaces that have been springing up in institutions across Australia in recent years, in universities, hospitals and other public places.
Canberra airport’s Noble Qur’an was printed by the order of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, who ruled from 2005 to 2015. It includes the Arabic text, and, side-by-side, the English translation by Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali and Muhammad Muhsin Khan. There is also an endorsement by Shaikh Abdul-Aziz ibn Baz, Chief Justice of Saudi Arabia from 1993 to 1999, and a foreword by Shaikh Salih ibn Abdul-Aziz al-Shaikh, the current Saudi Minister for Islamic Affairs. After the Koranic text there are a hundred pages or so of appendices, and under the text there are footnotes, which offer a commentary. There are also frequent interpolations in brackets to help clarify the meaning in translation….’

  23. At least 26 killed in mass shooting at Texas church

At least 26 people were killed in Texas, with many more wounded, after a gunman opened fire at a church outside San Antonio on Sunday, the state’s governor confirmed.

Multiple sources speaking to Fox News identified the gunman as 26-year-old Devin Patrick Kelley. The mass shooting unfolded at First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, which is about 30 miles southeast of San Antonio. Officials said it’s unclear whether Kelley killed himself or was fatally shot by police.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said up to 27 people were killed and “many more” wounded after a man walked into the church around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday and opened fire at the crowd of people.

  24. the guardian -‘Waiting is a mistake’: the billionaire pushing lawmakers to impeach Trump

Tom Steyer, a prominent Democratic patron, is running an outspoken ad campaign that’s got the president riled up

[…]In October, Tom Steyer, a billionaire hedge fund manager turned environmental activist, launched a “eight-figure” ad campaign demanding that elected officials and candidates in his party “take a stand” on removing Trump from office.

[…]The TV and digital ads will run in all 50 states, the campaign said. And many liberals outside California, where Steyer lives, his digital and TV ads will be their first introduction to the Democratic patron.

Starring in ads, Steyer calls Trump a “clear and present danger” and calmly lays out what he views is a case for impeachment. A petition accompanying the campaign has already gathered more than 1.5 million signatures, he said.

[…]“A Republican Congress once impeached a president for far less,” Steyer says in the ad, referring to Bill Clinton. “Yet today people in Congress and his own administration know that this president is a clear and present danger who’s mentally unstable and armed with nuclear weapons and they do nothing.”

Gorka calls Steyer’s impeachment ad an ‘SNL skit’

Former White House adviser Sebastian Gorka on Sunday compared California billionaire Tom Steyer’s campaign to impeach President Trump to a “Saturday Night Live” skit.

“Laughable, I mean just laughable. That’s an ‘SNL’ skit. ‘SNL’ should run that,” Gorka told host Steve Scully on C-SPAN’s “Washington Journal.”

Gorka said that Steyer and Democratic mega-donor George Soros, who became wealthy under the nation’s democratic system, now seek to challenge the foundations of the government by attempting to impeach the leader who was chosen by the people in the 2016 election.

“I find it so ironic that people like Steyer and people like Soros drink from the cup of overflowing liberty and market forces for decades — become billionaires and then they want to destroy the system that allowed them to become so wealthy. It is just fantasy, absolute fantasy,” he told Scully.

Steyer has spent millions of dollars on the impeachment campaign, which has garnered over 1 million signatures since its launch last month.

Trump on Oct. 27 blasted Steyer for trying to block his agenda.

“Wacky & totally unhinged Tom Steyer, who has been fighting me and my Make America Great Again agenda from beginning, never wins elections!” Trump wrote on Twitter.

Gorka left the White House in August shortly after Trump’s chief strategist, Stephen Bannon, left his post. Gorka had also worked under Bannon at Breitbart News, before following him to the White House.

Gorka, who was known for his focus on Islamist terrorism, is on a tour to promote his new book “Defeating Jihad, the Winnable War.”

Jesuit Father Henri Boulad, an Islamic scholar of the Egyptian Greek Melkite rite, pulled no punches in an interview concerning the motives of Islamic terror and Western responses to it. “Islam is an open-ended declaration of war against non-Muslims” and those who carry out acts of violence and intolerance are only doing what their creed requires, said the priest. The interview continues:
