  3. Shreveport Police have a man in custody accused of beating another man in an alleged hate crime.

On October 14, 2017 just before 2:00 pm, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to reports of a man being beaten with a shovel in the 5300 block of Prentiss Avenue in west Shreveport. The victim was transported to University Health Hospital where he was treated for head injuries and a ruptured sinus cavity as a result of the battery.

Investigators with the Shreveport Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit launched their investigation and learned that the victim was part of a contracting crew that was working on a city project in the area. The suspect, 25-year-old Derryon Houston of the 2800 block of Morningside Drive, began taunting the white employees with racial slurs and threatened them with bodily harm. The contractors ignored the taunts but Houston would not leave the area.

  5. School Defends Student Group Proposing THIS For Capitalists

A socialist student group at Iowa State University has repeatedly made threatening comments about conservatives on social media, but the school says the comments are protected speech.

In one recent tweet, the school’s Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA) chapter called for the hanging and extermination of all “capitalists.”

“The left has done a good job radicalizing juggalos, weebs, furries, but I will not rest until ‘hXc’ stands for hang+Xterminate capitalists,” the group wrote in an October 4 tweet that has since been deleted.

After students brought the tweet to attention of the university, it replied via twitter by stating “this falls under free speech” and then offering available “resources” to student if they “feel threatened or harassed.”

  6. ‘Accept a debate’ Universities to be FINED if student unions ban controversial speakers (express, Oct 19, 2017)

“UNIVERSITIES that attempt to ban controversial speakers from appearing at their campuses could be fined or suspended under new government measures aimed at upholding free speech.

Whitehall wants to end the practice of “no platforming”, where student unions have attempted to prevent public figures from speaking at their universities due to their outspoken and often incendiary views.

Universities Minister Jo Johnson, whose brother Boris was the subject of a no platform campaign by Kings College London students, said young people and students needed to “accept the legitimacy of healthy, vigorous debate”.

Next year, the newly created Office for Students (OfS) will be given its legal powers, and a consultation is currently deciding what its remit should be.

Mr Johnson suggested the OfS could be allowed to fine, suspend or de-register universities that fail to uphold free speech on campus.

“It goes to the heart of our democratic values and is a principle universities hold dear,” Mr Johnson said…”

  7. Mother Who Lost Her Son in Afghanistan Never Heard From Obama, but Got Letter from Melania

    By V Saxena

When Gold Star mother Jill Stephenson’s son, U.S. Army Ranger Cpl. Benjamin Kopp, died in 2009 from combat wounds he received in Afghanistan, neither then-President Barack Obama nor first lady Michelle Obama reached out to her.

“I never got a call,” she revealed in an with the Independent Journal Review published this week.

Eight years later, Stephenson finally heard from someone: First lady Melania Trump.

“Dear Ms. Stephenson, I wish to offer my heartfelt gratitude for the sacrifices you have made and the high price you and your family have paid to help ensure our freedom,” Melania wrote in a letter dated Sept. 18.

“As a mother, you bear the burden of war in a very personal way,” the letter continued. “I want to take a moment, on Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day, to honor you and your son, Corporal Benjamin Kopp, who laid down his life to protect us, our country, and all we hold dear. His sacrifice will never be forgotten. I hold you close to my heart and keep you in my prayers. “

    “Sincerely, Melania Trump.”

  9. BREAKING: Sanctuary State Arsonist Is Illegal Immigrant

ICE Director: Suspected Wine Country Arsonist Is Illegal Alien Mexican National
    44010

WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director Tom Homan confirmed on Thursday that a man arrested in connection with setting a fire in Sonoma County Wine Country is an illegal alien from Mexico who has been twice returned to his “home country.”

Homan also confirmed that ICE has issued detainer requests for Jesus Fabian Gonzalez five times now in the past year alone, including the one issued on October 16 in relation to his most recent arrest on suspicion of arson. All of the arrests were made “by Sonoma County on various felony and misdemeanor charges,” according to Homan.

Sonoma County is considered a sanctuary jurisdiction and does not fully cooperate with federal immigration officials. That includes not honoring ICE detainer requests. “ICE was never notified of Mr. Gonzalez’ various releases,” Homan wrote in the statement regarding Gonzalez.

There were several fires in the region, and it is not clear what role the fires Gonzales allegedly set played in the overall disaster.

  10. Supreme Court to consider major digital privacy case on Microsoft email storage

The Supreme Court on Monday accepted a second important case on digital privacy, agreeing to hear a dispute between the federal government and Microsoft about emails stored overseas.

The justices increasingly have been called upon to settle legal battles between law enforcement and technology companies, and to interpret laws written before the technology revolution that now raise pertinent questions about privacy.

The justices next month will hear a case involving prosecutors’ access to the historical data stored in cellphone tower records.

Legal experts noted that the court accepted both that case and the one involving Microsoft even though there was no split among lower courts on the law underlying the decisions, something that usually happens before the Supreme Court gets involved.

  11. From Russia to Hillary: Bribes, Extortion, Uranium and Lies
How an FBI Uranium investigation was corrupted to protect the Clinton’s Russian connection.

Hillary is demanding to know the truth about Trump and Russia. The truth is that every accusation about Russian ties that Hillary and her associates have hurled at President Trump is really true of the Clintons.

In ’14, Hillary Clinton made headlines by comparing Russia’s Vladimir Putin to Hitler. But if the Russian strongman really was ‘Hitler’, what did that make stooges like Hillary, Bill and Barack Obama?

Five years earlier, Hillary had been posing with a ‘Reset Button” with one of Putin’s henchmen. But Hillary was bringing a lot more to the meeting than a mislabeled button pilfered from a swimming pool. The ‘Reset’ had the same pattern as other Clinton scandal: a shadowy foreign financial pal with an agenda, the Clinton Foundation being used to launder money and a government cover-up.

Officially, the ‘Reset’ was pushing Obama’s nuclear arms reduction plan and a joint effort to address Iran’s nuclear program. But the nuclear materials that truly interested Hillary Clinton weren’t in Russian missiles or in Iranian reactors, but in the ground in Kazakhstan. By the time Hillary showed off the ‘Reset Button’, the Clintons had been enjoying a long relationship with Frank Giustra, a Canadian mining mogul. Giustra had moved tens of millions into Clintonworld and Bill built up his profile in Kazakhstan.

  13. Yes, Weinstein Accusers Are Brave — So Were Jones, Willey and Broaddrick
Where were Hollywood’s social justice warriors the last 30 years?
    October 19, 2017
    Larry Elder

In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, among others, praised the Weinstein accusers for their “courage.” For decades, Weinstein, a big Democratic donor who could make or break Hollywood careers, apparently preyed on young women. Over 30 women have now come forth, with five alleging rape.

But where were Hollywood’s social justice warriors the last 30 years?

After all, Hollywood insiders call Weinstein’s behavior Hollywood’s worst kept secret. The television series “Entourage,” based on the world of Hollywood agents, portrayed an obnoxious, browbeating character, Harvey Weingard, clearly based on Weinstein. On NBC’s series “30 Rock,” one character made the following joke: “I turned down intercourse with Harvey Weinstein on no less than three occasions — out of five.”

At the 2013 Oscar awards show, host Seth MacFarlane, after reading the names of the five nominees in the supporting actress category, joked, “Congratulations. You five ladies no longer have to pretend to be attracted to Harvey Weinstein.” Today MacFarlane says, “I couldn’t resist the opportunity to take a hard swing in his direction,” after his friend, actress Jessica Barth, confided that she had been sexually harassed by Weinstein in his hotel room in 2011.

  14. Bernie Sanders Can’t Define Difference Between Democrats and Socialists
    October 19, 2017
    Daniel Greenfield

Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz have become the most visible exponents of their respective ideologies, socialism for Sanders and free enterprise conservatism for Cruz. The CNN debates are a circus. But they’re still far better than the miserable spectacle of the actual presidential debates in which the GOP candidates were encouraged to launch petty personal attacks at each other and the Dems were encouraged not to get in Hillary’s way. And an actual debate about issues is now so exotic that it actually qualifies as entertainment.

But the trouble is that Bernie mostly has no idea what he’s talking about. There are lefties who could give Cruz a good debate. Bernie is just going to rely on his “Why do you love capitalism so much that you want kids to die” and “We have so much money, we could buy everyone a pony” shtick. He’s also poor with numbers and is better at quips than policy. And that’s what you see here.

After claiming to be a Democrat during the election and a Socialist much of the rest of the time, he can’t explain the difference between Socialists and Democrats on taxes. (Or chooses not to, such an explanation would inevitably be unflattering to one side or the other.) But it’s not as if there is a difference anymore. And that’s Cruz’s point.

  15. Charlotte shooting protest had hidden help – a Russian troll farm, news site says
    Wednesday, October 18th 2017, 4:29 pm CDT

CHARLOTTE, NC (Bruce Henderson and Steve Harrison/The Charlotte Observer) – The Russian troll farm suspected of trying to disrupt U.S. elections last year apparently infiltrated Charlotte during racial protests last year, BuzzFeed News reports.

The online news site says the St. Petersburg-based Internet Research Agency recruited U.S. activists to help stage protests in order to help divide the nation ahead of the 2016 elections.

Conrad James of the Raleigh nonprofit Living Ultra-Violet was among four activists who told BuzzFeed they never suspected they were being recruited by the Russians.

James told the news site he was contacted by BlackMattersUS, which the Russian news outlet RBC linked to the Russian troll farm. James said BlackMattersUS asked him to speak at a rally following the September 2016 police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott, which sparked two days of protests.

“I thought it was a knockoff of Black Lives Matter,” James told BuzzFeed, but its website appeared legitimate.

Living Ultra-Violet’s Twitter feed describes itself as a “Millennial Think-tank intellectually innovating economic development, research, and altruism.” The Observer couldn’t reach James on Wednesday.

  16. FBI Announces More People Die from Knives Than Rifles

    By Cillian Zeal

Every time a major shooting occurs, the knee-jerk reaction is to ban “assault” rifles.

It’s not like the media even knows what “assault” rifles are (there’s really no such thing on the civilian market, but darned if they don’t trot out the term each time a mass shooting occurs). Still, they’re entirely convinced that scads of murders could be prevented if these phantom weapons were banned.

Unfortunately, even in a world where civilian “assault rifles” and unicorns existed and could both be purchased by anyone, such measures wouldn’t exactly do very much. At least, not unless they’re willing to go after the fine people at Wusthof, as well.

es, it turns out that four times as many people are killed by knives than by rifles of any kind — including semi-automatics, the type of weapon usually passed as a civilian “assault rifle” when the chimerical category is discussed.

According to Breitbart, the FBI Uniform Crime Report noted that while 374 people were killed by rifles of any type in 2016, knives claimed 1,604 lives.

That’s about the same as it was in 2015, when rifles and shotguns were used to kill 548 people while knives were used to kill 1,573.

In his speech before the Center for Strategic and International Studies on Wednesday, Tillerson said “We’ll be here as long as it takes until you change your mind.”

The remarks by Tillerson came as efforts are underway to encourage the Taliban group to participate in peace talks and end the ongoing violence through reconciliation.

  21. Threats against Swedish police and prosecutors on the rise (thelocal, Oct 19, 2017)
    https://www.thelocal.se/20171019/threats-against-swedish-police-and-prosecutors-on-the-rise

“After a southern Swedish police station was damaged in a blast on Wednesday, police officers have said threats against them are becoming increasingly common.

Early on Wednesday morning, the entrance to the police station in Helsingborg was destroyed in an explosion which Minister of Justice Morgan Johansson said was “a serious attack on the judiciary”.

Back in June, the Swedish Police Union presented a report suggesting that Swedish policemen have been increasingly targeted in violent acts.

“Unfortunately, I’m not surprised [about the Helsingborg incident]. We have seen several similar attacks against police stations and cars. We know that threats and violence against police have become more widespread. The police force has become more vulnerable over the past two years,” said Lena Nitz, chairperson of the Swedish Police Union.

More than 2,000 police officers responded to the union’s investigation and 40 percent of them reported that they had been subjected to threats, violence or other undue influence over the past twelve months with the aim of influencing their service.

Nearly 70 percent of police officers said that threats and violence had increased over the last two years.

The same development has been observed at the Swedish Prosecution Authority. Jonas Nygren, a security specialist at the authority, told TT he has seen an increase in the number of cases relating to unauthorized influence. This includes harassment and threats of violence against individual prosecutors.

The latest survey by the Jusek union suggested that one in four members of the judiciary had been subjected to violence or threats.

And there are indications that threats are becoming more common in the judiciary. The court’s own statistics show that the number of incidents almost doubled between 2015 and 2016.

“We see an increasing number of reports, in particular relating to harassment and threats,” said Anita Kihlström, who is head of security at the Court of Justice, in an email to TT. However, she said that in recent years the security team had been working to raise awareness of the importance of reporting such incidents.

“It’s hard to determine what is actually an increase,” she said.

Lena Nitz said she believes that the attack on the police station in Helsingborg has been carried out by people with a history of heavy crime and the intention is to intimidate.

“They want to show that they dare to target the police. That’s why it’s so important to see this as an attack on democracy and to take powerful action. Trust in the judiciary’s ability is at risk of being eroded and then the risk of more attacks increases,” she said.”

  22. Germany’s domestic intelligence agency warns of ‘IS’ sympathizers (DW, Oct 19, 2017)
    http://www.dw.com/en/germanys-domestic-intelligence-agency-warns-of-is-sympathizers/a-41038185

“Germany’s domestic intelligence agency says ‘IS’ sympathizers returning to the country could pose a security risk. The agency’s head also warned of the increasing threat of cyberwarfare…

“We see the threat of children, socialized by Islamists, and thus accordingly indoctrinated, returning to Germany from a war zone,” BfV President Hans-Georg Maassen said in Berlin on Wednesday.

According to the BfV, more than 950 Germans are currently in Syria and Iraq: of these, 20 percent are women and five percent are children. Security authorities assume that, as the situation on the ground there deteriorates, many of them will soon be returning to Germany.

The BfV believes that, if that happens, it could pose a security risk to the country. Authorities say their concern is compounded by the fact that IS directly targets children and youths in its propaganda. Some videos found online even show children participating in executions. Maassen says he fears “the possibility that a new generation of jihadis is being created.”…”
