    • These people make me absolutely sick. You decided to go hiking in Afghanistan 5 years ago? Should the American and Canadian taxpayers save your f’n asses? I think not.
To add insult to injury you decided to have unprotected sex while in captivity and bring 3 children into this nightmare? (you must have been really busy to produce 3 children in 5 years)
And then you refused an interim stop at Bagram, because, according to the father, flights from there sometimes go to Gitmo… No, you “demand” a direct flight to Canada…
Hey Canada, you got another 2 crazies to deal with. I hope they never come to the US.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told a press conference in Ankara that ‘it is unacceptable for the US to sacrifice a strategic partner such as Turkey to an impertinent ambassador,’ as a row concerning visas escalated, Thursday.

    • Well Pal. I’ll tell you something else unacceptable and that is beating up protesters on American soil, you slimy piece of …
Turkey is lost. The sooner we get out of there and move our assets to Jordan and Israel the happier I will be.
We have to stop contributing to this dictatorship.

Hollywood has a history with pedophiles. Corrupt managers have used the promise of stardom to sexually abuse for years, all the way back to the days of Judy Garland. It is, in the words of one movie executive, “a time-honored tradition in this town.”It took the state a long time to do anything about it. Up until 2012, convicted sexual offenders in California were free to work with child actors all they pleased. But even with that change, there are still a lot of dangerous people walking free. Some of the stories in this article are rumors. Some are facts that have been proven in a court of law. But every one of them makes it clear that there are a lot of men making their fortune in Hollywood who have done terrible things to children—some who have never suffered for their crimes.

Samsung Electronics chief executive Kwon Oh-hyun has resigned citing an “unprecedented crisis”.
It is the latest management upheaval at the firm after the heir of the entire Samsung Group was imprisoned for corruption in August.
Mr Kwon is one of three co-chief executives of Samsung Electronics.
His resignation comes on the same day the firm forecast record quarterly profits, citing higher memory chip prices.
Mr Kwon, who also serves on the board of Samsung Electronics, said he had been thinking about his departure “for quite some time” and could “no longer put it off.”
“As we are confronted with unprecedented crisis inside out, I believe that time has now come for the company [to] start anew, with a new spirit and young leadership to better respond to challenges arising from the rapidly changing IT industry,” he said in a statement.

Mass starvation has wiped out thousands of penguin chicks in Antarctica, with unusually thick sea ice forcing their parents to forage further for food in what conservationists Friday called a “catastrophic breeding failure”.

French scientists, supported by WWF, have been studying a colony of 18,000 pairs of Adelie penguins in East Antarctica since 2010 and discovered only two chicks survived the most recent breeding season in early 2017.

North Korea has made fresh threats to attack the U.S. territory of Guam with a ‘salvo of missiles’ after a recent aviation exercise over the peninsula.

Kim Jong-Un’s government warned that a joint exercise with Japan and South Korea has ‘hardened our determination that the U.S. should be tamed with fire’.

In a statement published in North Korean state media, Pyongyang said the military drills ‘lets us take our hand closer to the ‘trigger’ for taking the toughest countermeasure’.

  7. Latest North Korea earthquake a sign of instability at nuclear test site – experts

SEOUL (Reuters) – A series of tremors and landslides near North Korea’s nuclear test base likely mean the country’s sixth and largest blast has destabilised the region, and the Punggye-ri nuclear site may not be used for much longer to test nuclear weapons, experts say.

A small quake was detected early on Friday near the North’s nuclear test site, South Korea’s weather agency said, but unlike quakes associated with nuclear tests, it did not appear to be manmade. The tremor was the latest in a string of at least three shocks to be observed since Pyongyang’s Sept. 3 nuclear test, which caused a 6.3 magnitude earthquake.

  8. Trump Sends Second Aircraft Carrier To Korean Peninsula With 7,500 Marines Aboard

Just one week after uttering his now-infamous “this is the calm before the storm” statement to the press ahead of a dinner with military leaders, we now learn that President Trump has dispatched a second nuclear aircraft carrier, the USS Theodore Roosevelt, filled with 7,500 marines, to the Korean Peninsula. Of course, this comes after rumors swirled earlier this week that North Korea is preparing to fire multiple short-range rockets around the opening of the Chinese Communist Party’s twice-a-decade congress on Oct. 18th.

The USS Theodore Roosevelt, a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, is en route to the western Pacific after leaving San Diego port last week.

The Roosevelt will focus on maritime security operations in the Pacific and Middle East, the US military announced.

But the £3.4billion ($4.5billion) warship, known as “the Big Stick”, has been sent to boost US defence on the Korean peninsula, according to South Korean media.

It is expected to arrive in region in the coming weeks amid fears North Korea is about to test another missile or nuclear weapon.

Per the following map from Stratfor, the USS Theodore Roosevelt will join the USS Ronald Reagan which is already operating in the region.

  9. Armed Ground Robots Could Join the Ukrainian Conflict Next Year

Ukrainian military leaders and defense industry officials showed off their experimental Phantom robot on Monday at the Association of the U.S. Army show in Washington, D.C. It has an extendable frame that can be outfitted with treads like a tank or with six wheels, and armed with anti-tank weapons, grenade launchers, or machine guns. Currently in testing, the Phantom could be sent into action against Russian-backed forces as early as next year, they said.

Russia, too, has a wide array of ground bots it could dispatch to the conflict, though Moscow has not signaled its readiness to do that. But Russian drones of the flying variety have been used to tremendous effect there. They identify enemy positions to target fires. They hijack cell-tower signals to deliver false messages and texts, an effect experienced by Ukrainian soldiers and even NATO soldiers outside the country.

Meanwhile, the Russians have been quite up-front about using ground robots in Syria, although Russian media outlets reporting on their missions have been all over the map. Such unmanned ground vehicles, or UGVs, include the Platforma-M, the Nerehta, and the Uran-9. Still, the Russians are not known to have deployed UGVs in the destabilization war against their Western neighbor.

“What’s interesting about the Ukrainian conflict is that it’s the

  10. S. Korea Detects Magnitude 2.9 Earthquake Near N. Korean Test Site

South Korea detects a fourth small earthquake near Pyongyang’s nuclear test site.

Seoul’s weather agency reported a magnitude 2.9 quake early Friday with the epicenter located in the northeastern territory of the isolated state.

Meteorologists say the quake does not appear to be man made, and may have been a result of North Korea’s previous nuclear tests.

Experts have speculated the mountain where Pyongyang conducts its nuclear tests could explode, which could bear the risk of radioactive pollution.

The Australian and South Korean foreign ministers are discussed how to deter North Korea’s nuclear program amid the detection of the recent earthquake.

Both nations voiced strong concerns about rising tensions with the regime.

Officials agreed a military conflict on the peninsula would be catastrophic.

“We firmly believe that there must never be a war on the Korean peninsula and the president has continuously stressed this part,” said the South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha. “However, we agree with Australia in that the sanctions and restraints against North Korea must have a strong capability to control (the situation).”

The two countries will be holding joint military drills at the end of the month.

  11. ‘They have to pay’, EU’s Juncker says of Britain

LUXEMBOURG (Reuters) – Britain must commit to paying what it owes to the European Union before talks can begin about a future relationship with the bloc after Brexit, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said on Friday.

“The British are discovering, as we are, day after day new problems. That’s the reason why this process will take longer than initially thought,” Juncker said in a speech to students in his native Luxembourg.

“We cannot find for the time being a real compromise as far as the remaining financial commitments of the UK are concerned. As we are not able to do this we will not be able to say in the European Council in October that now we can move to the second phase of negotiations,” Juncker said.

“They have to pay, they have to pay, not in an impossible way. I’m not in a revenge mood. I’m not hating the British.”

The EU has told Britain that a summit next week will conclude that insufficient progress has been made in talks for Brussels to open negotiations on a future trade deal. London has been hoping and pressing for this to happen at the summit.

  12. U. of Wisconsin rejects demand for plaque near Lincoln statue accusing 16th president of this
By Howard Portnoy October 13, 2017

Back when statue-gate was still just gathering steam, President Donald Trump quipped in a tweet that before long, the Left would be demanding the removal of statues dedicated to George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.

A day later, the Washington Post asked with a straight face whether it is “still OK to venerate” these two former presidents, both of whom after all held slaves. Soon after came actual demands that statues of Washington be toppled and the Jefferson Memorial turned into a museum.

Now it’s another president’s turn. The target this time? Abraham Lincoln!

Sure Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, effectively freeing the slaves, but it’s not his seeming ambivalence toward slavery that has students at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, up in arms. Rather, they want the record to show that Lincoln was a “mass murderer.”

According to Campus Reform, the student government recently issued a demand to the administration that a plaque be added near the statue of Lincoln outside Bascom Hall that acknowledges his complicity in the death of 38 American Indians:

  13. 58% of college students think ‘intolerant’ ideas should not be allowed on campus
By LU Staff October 12, 2017

The majority of conservative and liberal college students believe that they shouldn’t be in a campus environment where “intolerant or offensive ideas” are permitted, according to a Wednesday report.

The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education released a report on college students’ attitudes toward free speech, self-censorship, and guest speakers after contracting YouGov to survey 1,250 college students from two- and four-year universities.

The survey found that while 92% of students believe it’s important to hear different beliefs on campus, 58% of college students think that it’s important to be on a campus where there aren’t intolerant or offensive beliefs.

The poll asked students to answer how they would react if a peer said something they disagreed with, found offensive, found hurtful, or found racist.

  14. As Iran speech looms, Trump blunts scurrilous, destabilizing smears about his fitness with a single tweet
    By J.E. Dyer October 13, 2017

If ever there were a moment for a cognitive double-take, it’s this one. It’s as if even our best minds are so mesmerized by secondary, hobby-horse considerations that they can’t grasp the import of what matters.

In the week when Trump is about to clarify his overarching policy on Iran and reportedly announce that he will not continue to certify Iran’s performance under the JCPOA, his competence as commander-in-chief and his grasp of how to command nuclear forces are being vituperatively – but anonymously – impugned by the mainstream media.

Yet what everyone has ended up in a huff about is the First Amendment and TV broadcasting – because in response to the vituperation, Trump tweeted something.

    • Channel 4 – Hillary Clinton on losing and Trump’s threat to world peace. (Full Interview)

      ( 19 min 13 )

Hillary Rodham Clinton speaks to Matt Frei about why she lost the U.S. Presidential election, how Trump’s rhetoric and actions are a threat to world peace and her views on Harvey Weinstein after the recent publication of her new book “What Happened”

        • I can’t stand that woman (for lack of a better word that can be used in polite company) but I want her out there running her mouth 24/7 because as you said she is helping the patriotic Americans maintain control of the country.

      • Hillary Calls Trump An ‘Admitted Sexual Assaulter’

Hillary Clinton called President Trump an “admitted sexual assaulter” in an interview with the BBC on Friday, but dismissed rape allegations made against her husband, saying that they have “all been litigated” and were “clearly in the past.”

Clinton made the comments after being asked about the sexual harassment and sexual assault allegations made against Harvey Weinstein, a Hollywood mogul and major Democratic donor.

“It was just disgusting and the stories that have come out are heartbreaking,” Clinton told BBC’s Andrew Marr. “And I really commend the women who have been willing to step forward now and tell their stories.”

“It’s important that we not just focus on him and whatever consequences flow from these stories about his behavior but that we recognize this kind of behavior cannot be tolerated anywhere, whether it’s in entertainment, politics,” continued Clinton, a friend of Weinstein’s.

“After all, we have someone admitting to being a sexual assaulter in the Oval Office,” she added, referring to Trump’s comments in 2005 during filming for an “Access Hollywood” segment.

Clinton’s comment about Trump prompted Marr to ask the former secretary of state about her own dismissive response to women who have accused her husband of sexual misconduct. Marr pointed to the Oct. 10, 2016, presidential debate to which Trump invited three of Bill Clinton’s accusers, Kathleen Willey, Juanita Broaddrick, and Paula Jones.

“The three women brought onto stage by Trump attacking your husband, and you kind of dismissed them. Was that the right thing to do? Are you sure about that?” Marr asked Clinton.

“Well, yes because that had all been litigated,” the former secretary of state responded.

“That was subject of a huge investigation, as you might recall, in the late 90s and there were conclusions drawn. That was clearly in the past,” she added.

Broaddrick has accused Clinton of raping her in a Little Rock hotel room in 1978, when he was Arkansas’ attorney general. Willey, a former White House volunteer aide, has claimed that Clinton sexually assaulted her in 1993, during his first term in office. Jones claimed in a lawsuit that Clinton exposed himself to her in a Little Rock hotel room in 1991, when he was governor.

Despite Clinton’s comments about all of those cases having been litigated, Broaddrick’s allegations were never investigated. She came forward only after Jones filed a lawsuit against Clinton. He settled the case by paying Jones $850,000.

    • Clinton Considering ‘University Professor’ Role at Columbia University

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is in talks with Columbia University to take on a formal role at the school.

Multiple sources on Thursday told the New York Daily News that Clinton, a two-time failed presidential candidate, is also talking with Columbia about housing her archives at the Ivy League institution, the New York Daily News reported.

The former law professor may take on the role of “University Professor,” which would allow Clinton to lecture in multiple schools and departments without the requirement of a strict course load, a source told the Daily News.

With this vague title, Clinton could potentially decide at a later date that she wants to settle in at Columbia’s law school or the School of International and Public Affairs.

“It’s all fluid. It could be a number of things,” a source said. “No decisions have been made, but there are talks. She’s trying to figure out what she wants to do.”

The timetable of when Clinton will make a decision on whether to take a role at Columbia is unclear, but a source familiar with Clinton’s thinking suggested it would be sooner rather than later.

A university spokesman, as well as a top professor at Columbia, declined to provide comment on the matter to the Daily News.

“It is premature for me to comment on this,” Kenneth Prewitt, the Carnegie Professor of Public Affairs and Director of the Future of Scholarly Knowledge Project, said in an email to the Daily News.

“A rapist has been locked-up for seven years after his victim recorded the sickening attack on her mobile phone.

Sarbast Fatah had befriended the woman in the days before the sexual assault and invited her back to his Gateshead flat for drinks in March this year.

But, Newcastle Crown Court was told, when she got there, the 24-year-old pinned her down and twice attacked her.

However, unbeknown to Fatah, the terrified victim had managed to record some of the harrowing ordeal and could be heard on the footage shouting ‘No, I don’t want to”, prosecutors said.

The court was told the brave victim then bit Fatah’s genitals before she managed to leave the flat and report what had happened to the police.

  18. BREAKING: Trump issues nuclear warning to Iran – USA to invalidate ‘worst deal ever’ (express, Oct 13, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/866135/donald-trump-iran-nuclear-deal-sanctions

“DONALD Trump will refuse to recertify the 2015 Iran nuclear deal in a major show of force against the Tehran government.

Donald Trump is expected to confirm shortly America’s intention not to recertifiy the agreement, which the US president previously condemend as the “worst deal ever”.

The USA will refuse to certify Tehran is complying with the deal, which was negotiated during Barack Obama’s reign and aimed to keep Iran’s nuclear programme under control.

It signals a more confrontational approach to Iran from Mr Trump, who has reluctantly rectified the deal twice despite concerns about loopholes.

The decision not to decertify the deal will not go down well in Iran, Europe or even Washington.

Senior US officials, European allies and prominent US lawmakers have told Trump that refusing to certify the deal would leave the America isolated, concede the diplomatic high ground to Tehran, and ultimately risk the unraveling of the agreement.

Signed by the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Russia, China, the European Union and Iran, the deal relieved sanctions on Tehran in exchange for giving up its nuclear weapons program.

Mr Trump will also give the US Treasury Department broad authority to impose economic sanctions against people and entities in the Iranian military, the and the Iran Revolutionary Guard.

Rex Tillerson has admitted Mr Trump will push for separate measures against Iran but admitted they might struggle to secure the approval of Congress.

The US Secretary of State said: “What we are laying out here is this is the pathway we think provides us the best platform from which to attempt to fix this deal.

“We may be unsuccessful. We may not be able to fix it. And if we’re not then we may end up out of the deal.”

  23. BBC Video by Racist Trans Model Brands White People ‘Most Violent and Oppressive Force of Nature on Earth’ (breitbart, Oct 13, 2017)

“The BBC has produced and aired a “take” by trans model Munroe Bergdorf, in which white people are excoriated as inherently racist and “the most violent and oppressive force of nature on earth”.

Bergdorf, who was previously given a platform by the BBC when cosmetics firm L’Oreal sacked them for similar racist comments, was speaking on the October 12th edition of the BBC This Week current affairs programme.

“What kind of country is modern Britain? No doubt it’s a country that likes to think of itself as inclusive, but that depends on where you’re standing,” Bergdorf complained.

“For me, as a transgender mixed race person, we live in a deeply racist society.”

“Why should we expect anything else from a country that’s built its success on the enslavement of non-white people?” Bergdorf alleged.

“It’s that continuous cycle of racism that explains where we are now. Why does the UK acknowledge the sacrifice of people killed in wars, but not the spilt blood of black people?”

In fact, there are many British memorials commemorating the victims of the slave trade and celebrating its abolition. The oldest, according to Historic England, is the Anti-Slavery Arch in Stroud, Gloucestershire, erected in 1834 by Henry Wyatt to celebrate the passing of the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833.

The most recent appears to have been a memorial erected in June this year to commemorate Sir Thomas Fowell Buxton, a parliamentarian who campaigned tirelessly against slavery.

The British probably did more to end the institution of slavery than any other people, following the abolition of the trade at home in 1807 with a sustained, worldwide campaign against the practice.

Arab Muslim slavers in North Africa, who had enslaved white Europeans and black Africans for centuries, were forced to curb their practices after the intervention of the Royal Navy, and British Christian missionaries like Dr. David Livingstone and Dr. John Kirk worked tirelessly to put an end to the related East African slave trade…”

  24. Court Rules: Muslim School’s Segregation of Boys from Girls Is Unlawful Sex Discrimination (breitbart, Oct 13, 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/jerusalem/2017/10/13/court-rules-muslim-schools-segregation-boys-girls-unlawful-sex-discrimination/

“Segregating boys from girls in a state-funded Muslim secondary school classroom is unlawful sex discrimination, a court has found.

Three Court of Appeal judges in London on Friday overturned last year’s finding by a High Court judge that Ofsted inspectors were wrong to penalise the mixed-sex Al-Hijrah school in Birmingham on the basis of an “erroneous” view that segregation amounted to unlawful discrimination.

In a landmark case, the school had originally challenged its critical Ofsted report, which found dividing the pupils by their sex left them entirely “unprepared for life in modern Britain.”

The school has complete segregation of boys and girls from nine to 16 for all lessons, breaks, school clubs and trips. For religious reasons the voluntary-aided institution, which has pupils aged between four and 16, believes that separation of the sexes from year five onwards is obligatory.

Al-Hijrah, which became state-funded in 2001, was put into special measures in 2016 after pro-rape texts were found in the institution’s library and a child died from an allergic reaction. As Breitbart London reported, an Ofsted inspector also identified bullying, said the playground was chaotic, teaching was poor, pupils were not safe and some staff did not know what to do in medical emergencies.

The school was given an “inadequate” judgment, the lowest ranking. The school attempted to suppress the report’s findings with funding from Birmingham city council.

The new judgement means Ofsted will be able to mark down Islamic and other faith schools in future for segregating pupils…”

“The Swiss government says voters will decide whether to ban face-covering garments like masks or Muslim burqas and niqabs.

The government said Friday a vote on the ban, championed by right wing groups, will take place.

That comes after advocates gathered over 100,000 signatures to put the initiative on the ballot under Switzerland’s system of direct democracy, which lets voters decide major policy issues.

The executive Federal Council will set a date for the referendum, not expected before next year…”

  26. Charity Claims 90 Per Cent of Young Migrants Are ‘Abused’ by Border Guards (breitbart, Oct 13, 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/10/13/msf-claims-90-per-cent-young-migrants-abused-border-guards/

“NGO Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has claimed that 90 per cent of young migrants between the ages of 15 and 25 have been abused by border guards and that Bulgarian guards are particularly violent.

The NGO, who previously operated one of the largest migrant rescue vessels off the Libyan coast ferrying migrants from North Africa to Italy, says that European Union (EU) border guards along the Balkan route have become increasingly abusive. According to MSF, migrants say that Bulgarian guards have subjected them to beatings, pepper spray, and set dogs on them, Der Standard reports.

“Many of the victims were young, teenagers and their faces were bloodstained,” an Afghan migrant told the NGO.

The NGO also claimed that it is very rare for the border guards to be prosecuted for abuse, though in Hungary, following an investigation, two border guards were found guilty of abusing their power.

Since 2015, there have been many violent clashes along various borders, often started by migrants themselves. In the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla in North Africa, migrants have become increasingly violent, according to Spanish State Secretary for Security José Antonio Nieto.

In August of this year, 1,000 migrants armed with makeshift weapons stormed the border fence at Ceuta injuring three Spanish policemen.

Last year along the border of Greece and Macedonia, the Macedonian government claimed that it was forced to use tear gas and other tactics to counter a mob of 3,000 violent migrants who were trying to tear down the border fence and attack guards with rocks.

The violence stemmed from the now-defunct makeshift camp at Idomeni in northern Greece in which many pro-migrant activists were trying to help migrants storm the border. In one incident, pro-migrant activists handed out incorrect maps of the border area leading to several people dying after trying to cross a nearby river.”

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/migrant-rescues-raise-concerns-libya-corridor-reopening-50457004

“Some 600 migrants rescued at sea arrived Friday in Sicily — one of the biggest influxes since Italy struck a deal with Libyan authorities to limit migrant smuggling — raising concerns of a renewed surge on the Libyan human trafficking route.

The migrants, including many unaccompanied minors from sub-Saharan Africa, were rescued in seven operations over 36 hours, and transported Friday to Palermo by the German non-governmental organization SOS Mediterranee.

They came as three weeks of fighting around the Libyan city of Sabratha has destabilized militias that pledged to help reduce the flow of migrant smuggling across the Mediterranean Sea, leaving many migrants and refugees displaced.

SOS Mediterranee President Valeria Calandra told Sky TG24 that the renewed instability in Libya has only increased the desire of migrants to escape the lawless North African country…”

reuters – Islamic State to fight ’till the end’ in Raqqa: U.S. coalition spokesman

Islamic State fighters in the Syrian city of Raqqa are expected to fight to the death, but some local militants have surrendered recently as U.S.-backed forces close in on their last strongholds, a U.S. coalition spokesman said on Wednesday.

Colonel Ryan Dillon said officials in the Raqqa Civil Council, which is to govern the city after IS has been driven out, were working to negotiate the safe passage of thousands of civilians being held hostage.

But the coalition would not support any negotiated withdrawal of fighters, he said.

“The coalition would not be party to a negotiated settlement. (But) we’re jumping ahead of anything that’s being discussed right now … as (the council) try to get civilians out,” he told Reuters by phone.

Up to 400 militants are believed to remain in a small part of Raqqa surrounded by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) alliance of Kurdish and Arab militias, he said.

”The foreign fighters (in IS), we fully expect them to fight till the end – there’s a hardcore of (foreign) fighters.

“But we have seen a rate of four to five ISIS fighters surrendering a week, including emirs – local leaders within Raqqa – over the past month,” Dillon said, using another acronym for Islamic State.

The SDF said on Sunday it expected Raqqa’s capture to be announced within days.

Islamic State took over the city in 2014 as it seized swathes of Syria and Iraq. Raqqa served as the group’s de facto Syrian capital, from where Islamic State plotted deadly attacks abroad.

RT – Talks on safe passage for Raqqa civilians halted – official

Talks on securing safe passage for civilians from the last neighborhoods held by Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) of Syria’s Raqqa have stopped, a city official close to the discussions said Friday. City officials and tribal leaders had been working this week to negotiate the safe exit of people trapped inside extremist-held areas. The source told AFP that some civilians were safely brought out during a lull in fighting in recent days. However, negotiations faltered over the issue of letting IS fighters leave and clashes resumed. “We completely reject the idea that their security members leave the city without consequences,” the official said. It is not clear whether the talks might resume.

  29. 16 rapists among hundreds of London sex offenders let off with a caution (standard, Oct 13, 2017)
    https://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/16-rapists-among-hundreds-of-london-sex-offenders-let-off-with-a-caution-a3657781.html

“Hundreds of sex offenders, including rapists, are escaping with “a slap on the wrist” by simply being cautioned for their crimes, the Standard has learned.

Figures obtained by the Standard reveal more than 1,100 cautions were given to sex offenders in London, meaning they dodged court and potentially lengthy prison spells. The tally includes 16 cautions for rape, which carries a maximum life imprisonment sentence if convicted in court.

Cautions, described as “warnings”, require offenders to accept guilt and are mostly issued to deter first-time offenders or bypass court proceedings for lower-level offences. They are not recorded as convictions but can show on Disclosure and Barring Service checks, formerly CRB checks.

But the Scotland Yard figures show thousands more cautions were handed out for other violent and serious crimes as their use in London surged 25 per cent over the past five years.

Police and the Crown Prosecution Service insisted it was “rare” for offences as serious as rape to result in a caution. They said it could happen when victims cannot face the trauma of testifying in court. A caution ensures the offender is placed on the sex offenders’ register and monitored.

However, campaigners called for a “wholesale review” as the Standard’s findings revealed 183,043 cautions were issued from 2012 until last year, with 1,115 given for sexual offences, including 16 for rape.

The circumstances of the rape cautions in the figures are unknown. But previous cases in which cautions have been given for rape have involved child offenders, including siblings, and people suffering mental health problems. There have also been cases where crimes logged as rape by police have resulted in a caution for a lesser sex offence.

The figures were released following Freedom of Information requests submitted by the Standard. City Hall pledged to question the Government over the use of cautions…”

  32. Imran Awan Made “Massive” Data Transfers
What did Democrats know and when did they know it?
    October 13, 2017
    Lloyd Billingsley

Imran Awan was the preferred IT man for former DNC boss Debbie Wasserman Schultz and other prominent Democrats. When Awan attempted to flee the country in July, authorities busted him for bank fraud, but for Andrew McCarthy, who prosecuted “Blind Sheik” Omar Abdel-Rahman, “this appears to be a real conspiracy, aimed at undermining American national security.” Now some in Congress agree.

On Tuesday, Fox News reported, Rep. Scott Perry said Awan had made “massive” data transfers that posed a “substantial security threat.” Awan and four of his associates made 5,400 unauthorized logins on a single government server that belonged to Xavier Becerra, then head of House Democratic Caucus and now attorney general of California.

On October 6, Luke Rosiak of the Daily Caller reported that Awan’s attorney wants to bar authorities from recovering data off the hard drive from a laptop with the username “RepDWS.” Capitol police found that laptop in a phone booth in the Rayburn House Office Building after Imran Awan had been banned from the House network from which he made massive data transfers.

  33. Iran threatens US Bases With Missile Strike

At a recent meeting of the Strategic Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran titled “Analyzing Trump’s behavior,” Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, commander of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, addressed recent developments regarding the nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action or JCPOA).

“If the Americans think that they will ultimately be negotiating such issues with Iran, they have chosen a completely wrong path. Iran intends to solve these issues off the negotiating table. There is absolutely no room for negotiation,” he threatened.

Jafari also stated that if the United States is bent on implementing new sanctions against the Guard Corps, they had better move their regional bases at least a 2,000 kilometer radius away from Iran (i.e., outside missile range).

He further threatened that if the U.S. government designates the Guards as a terrorist organization, the Guards would “target the U.S. military throughout the world, especially in the Middle East, considering it the same as ISIS.”

  34. France: Facebook Islamists Hunt in Packs

Fatiha Boudjalat, the co-founder of the secularist movement Viv(r)e la République, is a prominent figure of anti-Islamism in France. She is interviewed regularly on television and radio, and her op-eds are regularly published in Le Figaro. Recently, on Facebook, Boudjalat criticized strongly an Islamist government employee, Sonia Nour, for calling the Tunisian Islamist murderer of two women in Marseille, a “martyr”. A few weeks after that, Boudjalat’s Facebook account was deleted.

She is not alone in having been targeted by Islamists on Facebook. Leila Ourzik, an artist who lives in Grigny, a predominantly Muslim suburb not far from Paris, is a Muslim who eats and drinks openly during Ramadan and resists wearing the Islamic veil. Because of her un-Islamic behavior, she is openly insulted and threatened daily, as well as on social networks. On Facebook, Ourzik became a target. Islamists harassed her with insults and threats, posted her picture on pornography websites, and finally succeeded in obtaining the deletion of her account on Facebook. Suddenly, without warning, her Facebook account was shut. “Not once, many times” she says to Gatestone. Why? “I do not know, they never tell you. But one day, it is over, everything is deleted”.

  35. CBC – ‘I was not aware of what I was doing at the time,’ says UBC attempted murder suspect

Hours long videotaped interview with Thamer Hameed Almestadi played in courtroom during trial

The man charged with attempted murder in an attack at UBC last year admitted that he tried to kill the victim, but added that he didn’t know what he was doing during the incident.

“I tried to kill her,” Thamer Hameed Almestadi admitted in a videotaped interview with RCMP Sgt. Kevin Jeffrey.

“I was not aware of what I was doing at the time,” he added.

Almestadi has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon in the 2016 attack that left Mary Hare with serious injuries, including a five-inch-long cut to her throat.

In the hours-long interview that was played in court during day two of Almestadi’s trial, the UBC student was at times crying and remorseful, asking the officer if the victim was going to survive.

    ‘Made a mistake’

“Tell her I’m sorry …Tell her I made a mistake … I didn’t even know why her,” he said.

The international student from Saudi Arabia said that he hadn’t slept the night before the attack at UBC’s Salish House and was feeling overwhelmed by school work in the weeks leading up to the incident.

“I am so behind in school … I can’t get focused in school.”

When asked by Sgt. Jeffrey why he might have attacked Mary Hare with a knife Almestadi said, “I started listening to the Koran and understanding the meanings differently.”

“If you read something and your mind is thinking something else, you understand differently.”

Almestadi — who was 18 at the time of the incident — said he even began seeing things that weren’t real.

“At that point I thought Mary was the devil,” he said.

He told the officer he had confided in his mother about the thoughts he was having in the weeks leading up to the attack and had also visited a hospital to see a doctor.

‘I know what I did was wrong’

Mary Hare, 20, testified Tuesday that she had only met Almestadi once briefly before the attack in her dorm room.

“I fought him off. I did everything I could have done. I don’t have any regrets about what I did … I know that I was as strong as I could have been,” she said in court.

At one point during the interrogation with Sgt. Jeffrey, Almestadi offered to pay for Hare’s recovery and medical costs associated with the attack.

“She never did anything to me,” he told the officer. “I know what I did is wrong.”

Hare — who was also an international student at the time of the attack — has not returned to UBC since.

The trial is scheduled for three weeks with police officers, friends, witnesses and psychological experts expected to take the stand.

  36. Clumsy French spy sends text message to the radical Islamist he was keeping tabs on (thelocal, Oct 13, 2017)
    https://www.thelocal.fr/20171013/blundering-french-spy-sends-text-message-to-islamist-he-was-keeping-tabs-on

“A member of the French intelligence services has landed himself in hot water after sending a text message containing information on a radical Islamist he was spying on, to the target himself.

Anyone who has accidently sent a text message to the wrong person might have some sympathy with a member of the French intelligent services who landed himself in trouble with his bosses this week.

The man, who works for the central territorial intelligence services (SCRT) had been keeping tabs on a suspected Islamist extremist.

He wanted to send a text containing important intelligence on his target to a colleague.

But the spy got all his phone numbers mixed up and accidentally sent it to the very suspect he had been closely monitoring.

The “target” was reportedly quick to respond to the message, reminding the spy of how incompetent he had been. And to make matters worse he was able to warn those he had been contact with that they too were probably being listened to.

The gaffe angered those at France’s main internal intelligence services the DGSI who were also spying on the suspect.

The man under surveillance was suspected of preaching an extremist version of Islam in the greater Paris region of Ile-de-France.

French media who picked up the story this week, described it as a “monumental blunder” as they asked the question: “How could this have happened?”

Perhaps it would not have been so serious if France had not been on high alert for further terror attacks after being targeted by jihadists in recent years.

The DGSI was forced to end their investigation into the suspect.”

    https://www.thelocal.fr/20171013/call-for-french-ex-minister-to-answer-over-lafarge-payments-to-isis

“The anti-corruption association Sherpa called Friday for former French foreign minister Laurent Fabius to be questioned over payments made by cement maker Lafarge to the Islamic State group through a Syrian middleman.

Sherpa is one of 12 civil plaintiffs in a case against Lafarge over payments it made to IS and other armed groups to keep its Syrian operations running during the country’s civil war.

Lafarge clung on in Syria for two years after most French companies had left. IS eventually took over its northern Jalabiya plant in September 2014.

To ensure protection of its staff between 2013 and 2014, Lafarge Cement Syria paid between $80,000 and $100,000 a month to various armed groups, including $20,000 to IS, according to a source close to the year-old investigation.
