  1. John Bolton Reveals ‘One-Sided’ Questions NYT Reporter Sent Him for North Korea Story

Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton on Friday published a set of questions he described as biased and “one-sided” that a New York Times reporter sent him after he indicated that he supports using military force against North Korea.

Bolton wrote an op-ed for the New York Post on Tuesday in which he declared his support for the U.S. taking military action against North Korea’s nuclear program.

“It is completely unacceptable to say we must await a first strike by Pyongyang before we will resort to military force,” Bolton wrote, adding that the alternative to preemptive action is “potentially global proliferation of nuclear weapons, with the attendant risks lasting beyond our power to calculate.”

Two days later, New York Times reporter Gardiner Harris sent an email to the media adviser to the political action committee Bolton established to support Senate and House candidates who “favor a strong U.S. foreign policy.” The email contained a set of questions for Bolton on his op-ed.

Bolton published the email’s contents in an article for National Review, writing that the questions were “utterly one-sided, simplistic, incorporate factually incorrect assertions, and signal that the story is all but written.”

“There is clearly no basis to try to engage such a ‘reporter’ in reasoned dialogue,” he added.

Harris said he would probably write about Bolton’s op-ed and listed four questions for the former ambassador:

    1. How many deaths are acceptable losses in such an endeavour to get rid of North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities? 100,000? A million? Ten million?

    2. How many deaths does the ambassador expect?

    3. Why now? South Korea and Japan have been living under this threat for a decade. Do we attack only to prevent the North’s capacity to hit the US?

    4. If yes to above, why would the South agree with this strategy? They have to sacrifice potentially millions of their citizens lives so the US does not have to live with the risks they’ve faced for years?

“Some might wonder at publishing the questions in this way, but there is no indication that the ‘reporter’ asked for confidentiality of any sort,” Bolton wrote. “Maybe the rules should apply to them as well. Welcome to the world of pre-emptive strikes.”

  2. The Rohingya were also responsible for an insurgency in western Myanmar from 1947 until 1961, after the insurgency was stopped the remnants of the Islamists rose up against the government again with guerrilla warfare.

The most recent Rohingya attacks used to be dated in 2016 but during the early hours of the 25th August 2017, up to 150 insurgents launched coordinated attacks on 24 police posts and an army base in Rakhine State, leaving 71 dead. This attack prompted the counterattack of the government forces which started the Rohingya crisis the mainstream media keeps talking about.

      I _HATE_ cats!

They hate me and I’m afraid of them. They charge my face at first sight. The tiniest kitten instantly turns vicious tiger, launches itself at me, I scream into an asthma attack that can get serious.

I’ve had this analyzed by experts, both Western and East Asian. No use, no fix. The only remedy is to tell people I’m allergic to cats and stick with dogs.

I’m very much a dog person. Also love birds.

  4. Top counter-terror policeman WARNING: ‘Act to silence slick propaganda of ISIS’ (express, Sep 10, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/852200/ISIS-propaganda-terror-UK-Britain-police

“BRITAIN must do more to counter the “slick propaganda” of Islamic State or risk young people straying into extremism, the country’s top counter-terror policeman says.

Neil Basu, deputy assistant commissioner at the Metropolitan Police, said hatred on the internet was the biggest challenge for the force to tackle, adding that letting the terrorists’ messages go unchecked was fuelling more attacks.

His views were backed by Richard Ellis, vice governor at a school in Tower Hamlets, east London, who said more needed to be done to counter extremist views.

Mr Basu, the Met’s senior national co-ordinator for counter terrorism, warned last week that online indoctrination was one of the main threats.

“Our biggest critical challenge is the internet,” he said.

“We’ve got a whole generation who get most of their information online and if that’s the only place you’re getting your information and it’s unchallenged…

“The terrorists are producing lots of slick propaganda online and it’s either unchallenged and acquiesced to, or it’s supported.

“One of the places those kind of views would be challenged would be in a plural environment or a school where you’re exposed to a lot of different views and counter narratives. Failing to have that is a strategic challenge for society.”…”

  5. Police take as long as a WEEK to respond to burglaries due to staff shortages (express, Sep 10, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/852194/Police-respond-UK-crime-staff-shortages-burglars

“POLICE officers are taking as long as a week to respond to burglaries because of crippling staff shortages, the Police Federation warns.

Thousands of 999 calls are having to be put on hold every day with officers only able to respond immediately to crimes involving violence or vulnerable people.

Lower level crimes are instead logged and dealt with at a later date when there are officers available to attend to them.

However, forces all over the country have experienced unprecedented demand over the past year which has meant the backlog of cases is now higher than ever. Officers now attend break-ins or car thefts days after the initial call, by which time vital evidence could have been lost.

And there is now such a shortage in officer numbers – 20,000 fewer than in 2009 – that sometimes police decline to attend incidents of shoplifting and petrol theft.

Senior officers are warning that the service has “regressed to 1980s-style policing” which only reacts to crime rather than proactively preventing it.

Dorset police has lost 300 of its officers since peak levels eight years ago but is now operating at twice the demand.

Tony Tester, chairman of the Dorset Police Federation, said: “It’s not uncommon for my members to report coming into duty and finding 10-15 pages of open incidents.

That equates to 100-150 incidents that couldn’t be dealt with at the time but now need allocating.

“These lower level crimes, like domestic break-ins, have still impacted on people and evidence can disappear while waiting for a police officer to attend.

It might take six or seven days for you to get round to someone.

“Then there’s the effect on police officers themselves who, although battle weary, are good people who have a passion to serve the public but it really beats you down when every day you walk in and look at the in-box and go, ‘Oh I’ve got that to do today’.

That pressure has to take its toll on an officer’s welfare and morale.” West Yorkshire police are experiencing the same issues.

Over the past year 224 of its officers were off work with mental health-related illnesses.

Nick Smart, chairman of the West Yorkshire Police Federation, said: “Calls relating to violence or vulnerable people are dealt with straight away but crimes where there’s no CCTV footage, no positive ID on a suspect, no witnesses or blood left at a scene are dealt with far less urgently.”

The Metropolitan Police, meanwhile, is now so stretched that in some parts of London officers work three weeks without a break.

PC Mark O’Meara, who works in Croydon, said: “Last month I worked 21 days in a row.”

Last night the Home Office said it was “sensitive” to the pressures the police face.”

  11. North Korea’s Kim Jong Un fetes nuclear scientists, holds celebration bash

SEOUL (Reuters) – North Korean leader Kim Jong Un hosted a massive celebration to congratulate his nuclear scientists and technicians who steered the country’s sixth and largest nuclear test a week ago, its official news agency said on Sunday.

The United States and its allies had been bracing for another long-range missile launch in time for the 69th anniversary of North Korea’s founding on Saturday, but no fresh provocations were spotted while the North held numerous events to mark the holiday.

Throughout last week, South Korean officials had warned the North could launch another intercontinental ballistic missile in defiance of U.N. sanctions and amid an escalating standoff with the United States.

    • Israel’s ‘not routine’ strike on Syrian special weapons facility confirmed by imagery
      By J.E. Dyer September 10, 2017

Although the IDF itself has yet to comment publicly on the strike, reported by Syrian sources in the early morning hours of 7 September, one analyst has now presented post-strike imagery that appears to show strike damage at a special weapons facility northeast of Masyaf, Syria, in Hama Province.

Initial reporting on Thursday was unclear as to which facility in the area had been hit. The site northeast of Masyaf was most likely, given its relatively long history and connection with Syrian special weapons programs. But there is a separate Syrian Scientific Studies and Research Center (SSRC) campus in Masyaf, which some news outlets implied had been the target (i.e., by using satellite imagery of the campus in their reports).

  13. You did this! Tony Blair attacked for calls to curb migration after changing UK FOREVER (express, Sep 10, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/852230/Tony-Blair-open-borders-Brexit-EU-migration-laws

“TONY Blair made a surprise appearance on Marr this morning, where he called for tough immigration rules which would allow Britain to take back control – but without leaving the EU.

Tony Blair defended his “open border legacy” but insisted that the times had changed and his mass migration policies were “no longer appropriate”.

Speaking on The Andrew Marr Show this morning, Mr Blair called for new immigration rules which would allow Britain to have control over who comes into the country without leaving the EU.

He urged MPs to tackle people’s concerns over immigration, but without resorting to the “sledgehammer of Brexit”.

The former Prime Minister told Marr: “We have to meet people’s legitimate grievances, but in a way that doesn’t undermine the country’s standing in the world or our economy.

“We have to have a comprehensive look at immigration. We can deal with these questions without the sledgehammer of Brexit. Brexit would destroy the immigration we need.”

Marr rebuked this, calling it “a bit rich” coming from Mr Blair, who in large part was responsible for “opening the doors to mass immigration which changed communities forever”.

Mr Blair has been blamed for the rise in public concern about immigration which culminated in the Brexit vote, after failing to impose transitional controls on migrants from new EU member states in 2004.

The former Labour leader refused to apologise for his past record, claiming that the situation was “different back then, the times were different, the sentiment was different”…”

    • ‘Hypocrisy beyond the pale’ Farage DESTROYS Blair in furious rant over migration U-turn (express, Sep 10, 2017)
      http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/852258/Nigel-Farage-Tony-Blair-migrant-open-border-Brexit

“NIGEL FARAGE attacked Tony Blair this morning after the former Prime Minister urged the Government to impose tougher immigration controls.

Nigel Farage ripped into Tony Blair for “hypocrisy that goes beyond the pale” after the former Labour leader urged a dramatic shift on immigration controls.

Tony Blair urged the Government to implement tough new restrictions on immigration after he admitted “times had changed” since he opened the door to European migrants during his premiership – but refused to apologise for his policies.

Mr Blair rejected restrictions on immigration when eight countries from eastern Europe joined the EU in 2004 – a decision which he admitted “led to Brexit”.

The former British leader’s refusal to apologise or say he was wrong riled up Mr Farage during his LBC radio show.

The former Ukip leader said: “So, it’s 2017 Mr Blair. And you’ve written that open door immigration leads to people’s wages becoming lower, leads to people struggling to get access to public services.

“Oh, and also Mr Blair apparently it leads to problems of integration in Britain’s towns and cities.

“And you’ve done all of this by saying that no longer are the policies I had as Prime Minister appropriate.

“No apology. No admission that what you did was wrong. No concept of what you’ve done to towns and cities all over this country.”

He added: “Not just by opening up the doors, but by deliberately encouraging mass immigration from the non-EU world as well.

“Remember, your adviser said you wanted to rub the noses of the right in diversity.

“Well you did a very good job. And you alienated millions and millions of people.

“And for you to come out in this hypocritical way of controlling immigration.

“I think the whole thing is completely beyond the pale.””

  17. Church & State — Is There Really a Separation?
    Home > 101s > 101s > Church & State — Is There Really a Separation?
By Meira Svirsky Tuesday, September 5, 2017

Separation of church and state is a much-touted, constitutionally-guaranteed principle on which America was built.

But was it? Upon closer examination, one finds that the line of the law is not so clear.

These fuzzy lines can make adjudicating on current issues where sharia (Islamic) law and American law are at odds not only difficult, but extremely controversial.

As more and cases are brought to U.S. courts that address the religious beliefs of Muslims, it is worth looking at this foundational principle of U.S. law.

Here are some recent and interesting cases involving the clash between lslamic principles and U.S. law involving cases of employee rights, inheritance and spousal abuse.

Home > World > Israel > Islamist Hezbollah Is ‘Second-Strongest Army’ in Middle East
By David Harris Tuesday, September 5, 2017

With advanced weaponry and thousands of fighters, there are some who now believe Hezbollah to have the second-strongest military force in the Middle East. The Israeli daily Yediot Aharonot claims (Hebrew link) there are officers in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) who are of this opinion.

The Iranian-backed, Islamist terrorist organization Hezbollah is the talk of the town in Israel, as the Jewish state conducts its largest military exercise in almost 20 years.

While Israel prepares for the next possible war with Hezbollah, Clarion Project analysts believe confrontation is not imminent.

“While Hezbollah leaders lick their lips at the thought of attacking Israel, right now they are too involved in Syria to think of anything else,” said Clarion Editor-in-Chief David Harris. “Hezbollah is playing a major role in the creation of a Shiite military crescent that stretches from Iran, via Iraq and Syria to Lebanon.”

  20. North Korea: The Kims’ Cheat and Retreat Game

    by Amir Taheri
    September 10, 2017 at 4:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/10974/north-korea-kim-cheat

    Comment

It is too early to guess how the latest storm triggered by North Korea’s behavior might end. Will this lead to a “surgical” strike on North Korean nuclear sites by the United States? Or will it cause “a global catastrophe” as Vladimir Putin, never shy of hyperbole, warns?

If past experience is an indicator, the latest crisis is likely to fade away as did the previous six crises triggered by North Korea since the 1970s. Under the Kim dynasty, North Korea, in an established pattern of behavior, has been an irritant for the US, not to mention near and not-so-near neighbors such as South Korea, Japan, and even China and Russia.

By one reading, that pattern, otherwise known as “cheat-and-retreat” could be laughed at as a sign of weakness disguised as strength.

However, if only because nuclear weapons are involved, one would have to take the provocation seriously. The Kim dynasty has relied on that ambiguity as part of its survival strategy for decades. The strategy has worked because the Kims did not overreach, sticking to strict rules of brinkmanship.

    • He like many others think this can will once again be kicked down the road, the problem is that the end of the road is rapidly approaching. The people who are holding this opinion never seem to look further then one or two days in the future. If we let Kim get away with this withing two to five years every tin pot dictator will have nuclear weapons, probably purchased from North Korea. He also talks about a surgical strike but this isn’t a case where a surgical strike (we are finally reaching the level of technology where real surgical strikes are possible) won’t remove the threat. North Korea has many possible most of their military factories underground and connected by tunnels that link may locations tens of miles possible hundreds of miles apart. Given this fact the only way we can be reasonablly sure of removing all of the nuclear and missile plants is to put a very large number of boots (South Korean and US with any other allied forces that will join) on the ground. With the Ground consisting of all of North Korea.

China we can threaten with economics and nukes if necessary with a fair chance of keeping them out of the war but unless we ensure that all of the North Korean weapons plants are destroyed and that the South controls all of the North all we will do is kick the can down the road and piss off the leaders of the North. Done properly we can remove North Korea from the world and keep China and Russia from entering the war.

The majority of the judges nevertheless determined that “triple talaq” was actually “against the basic tenets of the Holy Quran,” and “what is bad in theology is bad in law as well.” According to the decision, the practice was in violation of Article 14 of India’s constitution, which guarantees the right to equality.

In Britain, abusive practices against Muslim women are still undertaken by Sharia Councils with impunity. In the West, the supposed dangers of multiculturalism are still regarded as more important than human rights. All Britain would need to do is enforce its own laws.

What supporters of this form of multiculturalism fail to realize — or refuse to acknowledge — is that the very existence of Sharia-compliant tribunals is not only a threat to modern justice, but necessarily abets the abuse of Muslim women, lack of equality, and the total lack of equal justice under law. In truth, justice is denied.

  22. BBC – Rohingya crisis:Muslim Insurgents declare temporary ceasefire

Rohingya Muslim insurgents in Myanmar have declared a one-month unilateral ceasefire to ease the humanitarian crisis in northern Rakhine state.

The Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) said the truce would start on Sunday, urging Mynamar’s army to lay down weapons as well.

Arsa attacks on police on 25 August led to a ferocious military response.

About 290,000 Rohingya are said to have fled Rakhine and sought shelter over the border in Bangladesh since then.

The UN says that aid groups urgently need $77m (£58m) to help Rohingya who have fled Myanmar.

There is a desperate need for food, water and health services for new arrivals in Cox’s Bazaar, the UN added.

Rohingya residents – a stateless, mostly Muslim minority in Buddhist-majority Myanmar – say the military and Rakhine Buddhists are waging a brutal campaign against them, burning their villages.

Myanmar rejects this, saying its military is fighting against Rohingya “terrorists”.

Arsa announced its ceasefire in a statement on Saturday.
It also asked humanitarian organisations to resume their work.
Myanmar so far has made no public comments on the insurgents’ initiative.

Aid agencies in Cox’s Bazaar say they are overwhelmed by the numbers fleeing, while reporters at the scene have described seeing thousands of Rohingya waiting at roadsides, begging and chasing food trucks.

An AP reporter saw one man collapsing from hunger while queuing at a food distribution point.

The UN Resident Co-ordinator in Bangladesh, Robert Watkins, said: “There is now an urgent need for 60,000 new shelters, as well as food, clean water and health services, including specialist mental health services and support for survivors of sexual violence.”

Those who have fled Rakhine describe village burnings, beatings and killings at the hands of the security forces and Buddhist youths.

The Myanmar government says it is the Rohingya militants and the Muslim villagers themselves who are burning their own homes and attacking non-Muslims – many of whom have also fled the violence.

But a BBC reporter in Rakhine state on Thursday saw a Muslim village being burned, apparently by a group of Rakhine Buddhists, contradicting the official version of events.

Also on Saturday, rights group Amnesty International accused Myanmar’s military of planting landmines at the border with Bangladesh.

Bangladeshi border guards and villagers have told the BBC that they witnessed more than 100 Myanmar soldiers walking by and apparently planting landmines at the border.

Bangladeshi officials have said they believe Myanmar government forces are planting the landmines to stop the Rohingya returning to their villages.

A Myanmar military source said no landmines had been planted recently, while a government spokesman told Reuters more information was needed.

The Rohingya plight is sparking concern and protests in many nations, and Myanmar’s de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been criticised for failing to protect them.

Various world leaders have urged Ms Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace laureate who spent years under house arrest for her pro-democracy activism, to speak out on behalf of the Rohingya.

  24. Greece: Golden Dawn rally commemorates battle of Thermopylae

Hundreds of members of the far-right Golden Dawn party participated in a torch lit rally at the Thermopylae Pass, some 200 kilometres (124 miles) from Athens, on Saturday, to commemorate the Battle of Thermopylae from 480 BC, in which King Leonidas of Sparta allegedly held back thousands of Persians with only 300 Spartans for three days.

    • The best information we have says the battle happened like the stories say (watch the 1962 movie 300 Spartans instead of the recent piece of trahs 300). The Spartans who were the best trained of the ground troops in Greece picked a place where the Persians couldn’t use their numbers to overwhelm the defenders and held out until a traitor sold the Persians the info of where a trail to go around the pass was at. The Spartans remained in the pass to cover the retreat of the rest of the Greek Army (except for the forces from Thebes who covered the backs of the Spartans.

  25. Saudi government allegedly funded a ‘dry run’ for 9/11

Fresh evidence submitted in a major 9/11 lawsuit moving forward against the Saudi Arabian government reveals its embassy in Washington may have funded a “dry run” for the hijackings carried out by two Saudi employees, further reinforcing the claim employees and agents of the kingdom directed and aided the 9/11 hijackers and plotters.

Two years before the airliner attacks, the Saudi Embassy paid for two Saudi nationals, living undercover in the US as students, to fly from Phoenix to Washington “in a dry run for the 9/11 attacks,” alleges the amended complaint filed on behalf of the families of some 1,400 victims who died in the terrorist attacks 16 years ago.

The court filing provides new details that paint “a pattern of both financial and operational support” for the 9/11 conspiracy from official Saudi sources, lawyers for the plaintiffs say. In fact, the Saudi government may have been involved in underwriting the attacks from the earliest stages — including testing cockpit security.

“We’ve long asserted that there were longstanding and close relationships between al Qaeda and the religious components of the Saudi government,” said Sean Carter, the lead attorney for the 9/11 plaintiffs. “This is further evidence of that.”

Lawyers representing Saudi Arabia last month filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, which may finally be headed toward trial now that Congress has cleared diplomatic-immunity hurdles. A Manhattan federal judge has asked the 9/11 plaintiffs, represented by lead law firm Cozen O’Connor, to respond to the motion by November.

Citing FBI documents, the complaint alleges that the Saudi students — Mohammed al-Qudhaeein and Hamdan al-Shalawi — were in fact members of “the Kingdom’s network of agents in the US,” and participated in the terrorist conspiracy.

They had trained at al Qaeda camps in Afghanistan at the same time some of the hijackers were there. And while living in Arizona, they had regular contacts with a Saudi hijacker pilot and a senior al Qaeda leader from Saudi now incarcerated at Gitmo. At least one tried to re-enter the US a month before the attacks as a possible muscle hijacker but was denied admission because he appeared on a terrorist watch list.

Qudhaeein and Shalawi both worked for and received money from the Saudi government, with Qudhaeein employed at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs. Shalawi was also “a longtime employee of the Saudi government.” The pair were in “frequent contact” with Saudi officials while in the US, according to the filings.

During a November 1999 America West flight to Washington, Qudhaeein and Shalawi are reported to have tried multiple times to gain access to the cockpit of the plane in an attempt to test flight-deck security in advance of the hijackings.

“After they boarded the plane in Phoenix, they began asking the flight attendants technical questions about the flight that the flight attendants found suspicious,” according to a summary of the FBI case files.

“When the plane was in flight, al-Qudhaeein asked where the bathroom was; one of the flight attendants pointed him to the back of the plane,” it added. “Nevertheless, al-Qudhaeein went to the front of the plane and attempted on two occasions to enter the cockpit.”

The pilots were so spooked by the Saudi passengers and their aggressive behavior that they made an emergency landing in Ohio. On the ground there, police handcuffed them and took them into custody. Though the FBI later questioned them, it decided not to pursue prosecution.

But after the FBI discovered that a suspect in a counterterrorism investigation in Phoenix was driving Shalawi’s car, the bureau opened a counterterrorism case on Shalawi. Then, in November 2000, the FBI received reporting that Shalawi trained at terrorist camps in Afghanistan and had received explosives training to perform attacks on American targets. The bureau also suspected Qudhaeein was a Saudi intelligence agent, based on his frequent contact with Saudi officials.

More, investigators learned that the two Saudis traveled to Washington to attend a symposium hosted by the Saudi Embassy in collaboration with the Institute for Islamic and Arabic Sciences in America, which was chaired by the Saudi ambassador. Before being shut down for terrorist ties, IIASA employed the late al Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki as a lecturer. Awlaki ministered to some of the hijackers and helped them obtain housing and IDs.

The FBI also confirmed that Qudhaeein’s and Shalawi’s airline tickets for the pre-9/11 dry run were paid for by the Saudi Embassy.

“The dry run reveals more of the fingerprints of the Saudi government,” said Kristen Breitweiser, one of the New York plaintiffs, whose husband perished at the World Trade Center.

“These guys were Saudi government employees for years and were paid by the Saudi government,” she added. “In fact, the Saudi Embassy paid for their plane tickets for the dry run.”

After the Nov. 19, 1999, incident — which took place less than two months before the first hijackers entered the US — both Saudi men held posts as Saudi government employees at the Imam Muhammad Ibn Saudi Islamic University, the parent of IIASA — “a further indication of their longstanding ties to the Saudi government,” the 9/11 complaint states.

Carter said in an interview that the allegations that the Saudi Embassy sponsored a pre-9/11 dry run — along with charges of other Saudi involvement in the 9/11 plot, from California to Florida — are based on “nearly 5,000 pages of evidence submitted of record and incorporated by reference into the complaint.”

They include “every FBI report that we have been able to obtain,” though hundreds of thousands of pages of government documents related to Saudi terror funding remain secret.

Attempts to reach lawyers representing the Saudi government by phone and email were unsuccessful. However, in last month’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit, they argued that the plaintiffs cannot prove the kingdom or its employees directly supported the hijackers.

  27. Top secret British police operation to stop refugee boat jihadis is scuppered by Libya after militia storm base (dailymail, Sep 10, 2017)
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4868798/British-operation-stop-jihadis-scuppered-Libya.html

“A top-secret operation by British agents in Libya to stop terrorists being smuggled into Europe by people-traffickers has been shut down after an assault by government militia.

The notorious Nawasi Brigade stormed the operations base in Tripoli of the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) – dealing a devastating blow to efforts to prevent terror attacks in Europe, highly placed sources in Libya have told The Mail on Sunday.

Hard-line jihadis and gangsters who make up the militia are now the nominal coastguard security – but, in fact, are working with people-smugglers for a cut of their vast income.

Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj – head of the Government of National Unity recognised by the United Nations – is powerless to defy the Nawasi Brigade, one of three militias that control Tripoli.

Three NCA intelligence officers had made dozens of reconnaissance visits over many months to the port complex in the city, where they had been working alongside police in the search for jihadis on a terror watch-list.

The NCA had planned to set up a large-scale operation involving British personnel and using cutting-edge surveillance technology later this year. The agency had recently applied to Libya’s Ministry of the Interior for the green light to start its counter-terrorism deployment in the country full-time.

Its mission had become even more urgent after the Manchester bombing in May, in which Salman Abedi killed 22 concert-goers. British-born Abedi was of Libyan origin and is believed to have received terrorist training in the country.

Security services fear that terrorists are making their way into Europe hidden among migrants – they take flimsy boats from Libya to reach Italy, from where they can travel elsewhere on the Continent. Already this year more than 100,000 migrants have crossed the Mediterranean.

While many will plead asylum as refugees from war or human-rights abuses, the vast majority are economic migrants, according to the United Nations. Two of the terrorists who took part in the November 2015 Paris attacks, in which 130 people were murdered, slipped into Europe using forged passports, hiding among the flood of refugees from the war in Syria.

Coastguard officials, angered by the loss of an opportunity to work closely with the British, told The Mail on Sunday: ‘The NCA team came over to Tripoli after the Manchester bombing and agreed that we might have been able to prevent that atrocity if our joint operations HQ had been up and running.’

The Nawasi Brigade gunmen stormed the port complex in Tripoli on July 19. Arriving in armoured vehicles, they threatened police staff with machine-guns, shouting: ‘Get out! Get out! We have taken over!’

More than 70 police officers were forced to leave immediately, and forbidden to take any files or equipment. A senior police officer who witnessed the attack said: ‘We know these men. They work with the people-traffickers and make money from smuggling African migrants on to boats. They call themselves protectors of public morals, but they are nothing but a bunch of gangsters, opportunists.

‘Some of them wore combat gear. Others, the religious ones, wore jalabiyas, the traditional robes. They are powerful in Tripoli and the government is weak and hopeless. We informed Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj, but he said he knew nothing, he had been out of the country. In reality he is terrified of the Nawasi Brigade and the other militias.’…”

  28. British Red Cross ‘Too White’, Chief Exec Calls Words ‘British’ and ‘Cross’ a ‘Challenge’ (breitbart, Sep 10, 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/09/10/red-cross-chief-charity-white-challenge/

“British Red Cross chief Mike Adamson has claimed the charity struggled to deal with the Grenfell disaster because staff and volunteers are too white.

“There is a risk that in a very diverse community like Grenfell, an organisation with the words ‘British’ and ‘Cross’ in its title is confused with a Christian establishment organisation,” he wrote, in a blog for the New Philanthropy Capital think tank.

Though stating that the charity is “completely impartial” in its work, Adamson added: “There is no escaping the fact that with shining exceptions, such as our refugee services, we are nowhere near as diverse as we need to be in our volunteer base, our staffing or our leadership.”

Announcing that he is “personally leading” the charity’s “inclusion and diversity strategy”, Adamson said the British Red Cross is “changing massively to be relevant to the world of today and tomorrow.”

He was slammed by commenters at the Times website — which reported Adamson a having “admitted the charity struggled with the Grenfell disaster because its workforce is too white” — for “apologising for [the British Red Cross’] very existence, its name and not being ‘diverse’ enough.”

“Call in the Red Crescent, if that is of the correct ethnicity,” wrote one user, adding: “What’s truly pathetic is the self-hate and desperate apologies for not being ‘relevant’ enough.”

On Tuesday, a blog post on the Third Sector website lamented that Britain needs “prompt action on diversity in fundraising”, arguing that the industry needs a significant culture change to attract more black and minority ethnic (BAME/BME) people to its workforce.

In the post, author Hayley Gullen — a senior trusts fundraising manager — reported a number of different “barriers” to ethnic minorities in pursuing fundraising careers , which include charity having “negative connotations”, the field being perceived as low prestige in migrant communities, and other cultures lacking the concept of charity.

A Guardian article similarly bemoaning the fact that Britain’s publishing industry “remains 90 per cent white” was attacked by readers who pointed out that — with the UK around 86 per cent white — the figure was broadly representative.

In comments below the piece, readers also questioned why the Guardian made ethnicity its focus when reporting on the alleged lack of diversity in the industry, when the article states that 85 per cent of people working in UK publishing are female.

“Where is the Guardian’s alarm at that statistic?”, wrote one user, calling the gender gap “a far bigger disparity than a marginal overrepresentation of white people in what is a very middle-class profession.”

The post added: “Having an industry so vital to public knowledge and education utterly dominated by one gender can’t possibly be good for society, can it?””

      • In many of the Asian cultures charity is seen as fear, if you weren’t afraid of the people you are helping you wouldn’t be helping them. The same idea is why they think mercy on the batte field is considered a sign of weakness or fear. The left who think they are the peak of intellectual activity should try studying the other cultures. Of course honest study would show that not all cultures are equal and that some are vastly suprerior to the others.

        • The movie “Keys to the Kingdom” showed that aspect of Asian culture. Rice Christians would end up subjecting the missionaries to a protection racket. Everything an exchange transaction.

That’s also the way Xi Jinping, for example, approaches foreign policy. Zero-sum game, winning has to be at the expense of a loser.

          • Most communists and ex communists think the same way, the idea of a win win situation is so foreign they are unable to comprehend such an action.

            • A win-win doesn’t allow them to feel truly superior, nor does it permit them to think that they really took advantage of someone. Where’s the fun in that?

  29. September 11 black box REVEALED: Last chilling moments inside hijacked flight

THE last chilling moments inside hijacked Flight

The delayed United Airlines flight took off from Newark International Airport, New Jersey, at 8.42am and was taken over by al-Qaida terrorists just 46 minutes into the journey.

But – unlike the three other hijacked crafts – the plane never reached its intended target of the US Capitol Building after desperate passengers tried to stop the attackers.

They banded together in an attempt to prevent disaster after panicked friends and family told them in heartbreaking phone calls that the Twin Towers had been hit in suicide missions just moments before.

The black box, which records in-flight data, was later recovered from the wreckage after the plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania at 10.06am when passengers tried to rush the cockpit.

It reveals that at 9.31am – three minutes after the attackers armed with knives took over the cockpit – they made contact with air traffic control.

The hijackers said over the tannoy: “Ladies and gentlemen: Here the captain, please sit down keep remaining seating. We have a bomb on board. So sit.”

In the background, a struggle can be heard, which was deemed to be the seriously injured pilot Jason Dahl trying to grab the controls.

One of the hijackers – named as Ziad Jarrah – then starts praying in Arabic, saying: “In the name of Allah, the most merciful, the most compassionate.”

At 9.39am, Jarrah again addresses the passengers via the tannoy, telling them: “Here’s the captain. I would like to tell you all to remain seated. We have a bomb aboard, and we are going back to the airport, and we have our demands. So, please remain quiet.”

The Cleveland Air Route Traffic Control Center can be heard trying to communicate with the attackers throughout the hijacking.

At 9.57am, Jarrah became aware that the passengers are planning to storm the cockpit and prevent his suicide mission.

He is heard asking about the commotion in the back of the aircraft, asking fellow hijacker Saeed al-Ghamdi: “Is there something? A fight? Yeah?”

A minute later, he was recorded saying: “They want to get in here. Hold, hold from the inside. Hold from the inside. Hold.”

In the next two minutes, the terrorists apparently become aware they cannot reach their target before the passengers break down the cockpit door.

Al-Ghamdi is heard saying to Jarrah: “Is that it? Shall we finish it off?” to which he responds saying they will crash the plane when the cockpit is actually breached.

Loud shouts from desperate passengers are heard at this point, with someone saying everyone will die unless they get in.

At 10.02am, Jarrah gives the order to “pull it down”, referring to putting the aircraft into a nosedive.

The attackers chanted “Allah is the greatest” repeatedly until the flight crashed into a field at 10.03am, killing all 40 passengers and crew.

  30. SPAIN – Nador Terrorist Cell Leader Was Member of Melilla Governing Party

Rabat – The leader of the terrorist cell recently dismantled by Moroccan authorities in Nador turns out to be Hafid Mohamed, a 39-year-old Spanish citizen of Moroccan descent and a member of the Popular Party (PP) in the Spanish enclave of Melilla.

The Spanish newspaper El Confidencial uncovered the identity of the man accused to have led the group of terrorists arrested in Nador on Wednesday, in an article published on September 7.

According to El Confidencial, it was the social and economic advantages that lured Mohammed to join the PP, not his personal convictions or political opinions. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Mohamed was working as an educational assistant at the juvenile reform center of San Jose Bastion, reported the newspaper. The institution runs under the supervision of the Social Welfare and Social Affairs Ministry of Melilla, governed by PP leader Juan Jose Imbroda, who is also Melilla’s mayor.

El Confidencial revealed that Mohammed was in fact in charge of 38 minors, most of them of Moroccan origins and incarcerated for diverse misdemeanors.

“It is as if they invited the wolf to take care of the sheep,” the newspaper wrote.

El Confidencial described the man as a liberal, having married a non-Muslim who moved to Melilla to found a family with him. The couple had two sons, celebrated Christmas together, drank alcohol and ate pork together, and behaved like any other “normal” Spanish couple.

A three-year member of the PP party, Mohammed was described as an engaged activist. He dedicated most of his time to his political activities, especially during elections. He would put up banners, hand out posters, attend rallies, and would even work with the party at the Leon Solá polling station.

How did the Partido Popular de Melilla activist found himself at the head of a jihadist cell that wanted to commit “terrorist attacks of great scale” in Morocco and Spain?

El Confidencial revealed that the man began to change throughout the past year.

Melilla’s mayor told the Spanish press that he hadn’t attended his job for a year and took leave after returning in the summer. Changing his trimmed look to a full grown bear, his polo shirt for a djellaba, Mohammed was reported to regularly attended prayers at the White Mosque of Cañada Hidum, also known as the “the Valley of the Dead.” It was there that the process of his radicalization started.

The arrest of Mohamed last Wednesday put the Melilla PP in an awkward position. The Socialists of the PSOE asked for an emergency meeting of the Municipal Assembly committee, but Imbroda refused.

The mayor also also tried to reject any connection between him and Mohamed, “who had not paid his dues for three years and was not allowed to participate in the internal elections,” reports El Confidencial. The mayor also assured that the jihadist was suspended from the party and expelled from his job that same Wednesday.

The city of Melilla witnessed 27 anti-terrorist operations since 2012, but one-third have taken place since January 2017. In the case of Mohamed, he radicalized rapidly, before recruiting jihadist militants and organizing night training and simulation of attacks and murders.

In addition to the alleged jihadist leader, five other members of the cell were arrested on Moroccan soil Wednesday at dawn. In Melilla, the PP, PSOE and the Coalition for Melilla political parties welcomed the effectiveness of the Moroccan-Spanish cooperation.

The parties have asked for an investigation into the contacts that the cell’s recruiter could have had with other young people of the social center for young offenders, which has provoked controversy in the city.

On Thursday, the head of social affairs in the city’s municipality Daniel Ventura said that “it is impossible to recruit or radicalize young people from the social center for juvenile delinquents, ” criticizing the apparent politicization of the terrorist plot.

Ventura said that “the assistant educator is never left alone in the center and that if there was recruitment, it was outside.”

The presumed jihadist arrested Wednesday was presented before the judge this Friday, September 8.

Spanish police arrest jihadist recruiter working at a youth center in Melilla

Hafid Mohamed was an educator for at-risk youngsters at migrant center in Spanish exclave

Hafid Mohamed, a 39-year-old Moroccan-born Spanish national based in the exclave city of Melilla, was working as an educator at a juvenile center before his arrest on Tuesday for jihadist activities, according to local police sources.

Mohamed, believed to have been the leader of a jihadist cell, allegedly used this position to recruit and indoctrinate at-risk youths he worked with at the Fuerte de la Purísima center for juvenile immigrants. Most of the center’s 300 youngsters, who are all under 18, are from Morocco.

Five other presumed jihadists were also arrested as part of the raid.

Spanish Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido said that the joint police operation between Spain and Morocco broke up “a jihadist cell with a high potential for carrying out attacks.”

Mohamed worked for several years as an “assistant educator” at the center, “ever since he joined the local branch of the Popular Party (PP) and Juan José Imbroda [mayor of the city], helped him get the position,” according to police sources.

Investigators believe that “during this period, he was able to effectively conduct recruitment activities as he created a terrorist cell, now broken up, whose imminent goal was to move on to violent jihad activities.”

Imbroda called an emergency party meeting to eject Mohamed from their ranks, and said that for the last three years the suspect had not been paying his membership fees, which meant that “he lacked political rights within the group.”

Investigators found that the cell members had been holding secret meetings to plan large-scale attacks. The members were undergoing a physical training program and simulating decapitations.

“For years, Pakistan’s soaring population growth has been evident in increasingly crowded schools, clinics and poor communities across this vast, Muslim-majority nation. But until two weeks ago, no one knew just how serious the problem was. Now they do.

Preliminary results from a new national census — the first conducted since 1998 — show that the population has grown by 57 per cent since then, reaching 207.7 million and making Pakistan the world’s fifth-most-populous country, surpassing Brazil and ranking behind China, India, the United States and Indonesia. The annual birth-rate, while gradually declining, is still alarmingly high. At 22 births per 1,000 people, it is on a par with Bolivia and Haiti, and among the highest outside Africa.

“The exploding population bomb has put the entire country’s future in jeopardy,” columnist Zahid Hussain wrote in the Dawn newspaper recently. With 60 per cent of the population younger than 30, nearly a third of Pakistanis living in poverty and only 58 per cent literate, he added, “this is a disaster in the making.”

The chief causes of the continuing surge, according to population experts, include religious taboos, political timidity and public ignorance, especially in rural areas. Only a third of married Pakistani women use any form of birth control, and the only family-planning method sanctioned by most Islamic clerics is spacing births by breast-feeding newborns for two years.

Even if the birth-rate slows, some experts estimate that Pakistan’s population could double again by the middle of the century, putting catastrophic pressures on water and sanitation systems, swamping health and education services, and leaving tens of millions of people jobless — prime recruits for criminal networks and violent Islamist groups.

But instead of encouraging fresh ideas to address the population crisis, the census has triggered a rash of arguments over whether certain areas have been over or undercounted, or reclassified as urban instead of rural. These squabbles amount to fights over political and financial spoils, including the number of provincial assembly seats and the amount of funding from the central government.

A few people, however, are paying close attention to the larger picture. One is Shireen Sukhun, a district officer for the Population Welfare Department in Punjab province. Her mission is to persuade Pakistani families to have fewer children and offer the families access to contraceptive methods — but she is keenly aware of the obstacles.

“The fatal combination we face is poverty and illiteracy,” Sukhun said. “It takes a long time to change people’s mind-sets, and we don’t have the luxury of leaving it to time.”…”

  32. ISIS Calls on Supporters to Kill Survivors of Hurricane Harvey

It’s probably redundant at this point to get sickened by the terrorists known as the Islamic State, but it’s also important to remind ourselves every so often just how low this band of human cockroaches is willing to sink if it means spreading their diseased religious jihad.

This week, supporters of ISIS sent out a twisted message on the encrypted app Telegram, a popular social media platform for Islamic extremists who want to communicate stealthily with other like-minded terrorist sympathizers. In the message, they encouraged American jihadis to head down to Texas and launch attacks on shelters and relief centers helping the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Newsweek obtained a copy of the transcript:

  33. France: Parisians march against ‘permanent state of emergency’

Thousands of demonstrators marched through the streets of Paris and rallied at Republic Square, Sunday, to protest against a new anti-terror draft law which they saw as an extension of the current state of emergency.

SOT, Rene, Spokesperson of social justice association Attac (French): “In December 2015, thanks to the State of Emergency, international demonstrations during the COP21 [United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, 21st Conference of the Parties] were banned. And militants have been assigned residencies. By the time Mr. Holland himself had admitted that he had used the state of emergency for this purpose. The Macron administration – which is organised like a board of directors of a company – displaces intermediary bodies, trade unions, of course, but also the deputies who are stripped from their roles. I think of future ordinances on the labour law. An authoritarian and repressive tool is attached to this government of so-called ‘experts.’ This raises questions about democracy in this country.”

SOT, Jacques, Spokesperson of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement (BDS) (French): “I wish to speak to you about the arrest of the Franco-Palestinian militant Salah Hamouri, who was arrested in Israel for reasons allegedly linked to the state of emergency. He is currently in administrative detention, and the fact that the French government takes the State of Israel as a model for its security measures. It’s very serious. Through the example of Salah Hamouri, we also demonstrate for another type of society that is not governed by states of emergency or by the repression of the citizen’s right to demonstrate.”

  34. UK: Anti-fascists and SDL supporters face-off in Perth over planned mosque

Anti-fascist activists lined the streets of Perth on Sunday to counter-protest a demonstration organised by the Scottish Defence League (SDL), who oppose the planned building of a £1m (€1.1m) mosque in the city.

  35. Teachers ‘scared’ to teach lessons on 9/11 terror attack

Some teachers are too scared to discuss 9/11 with their pupils as they fear a backlash from Muslim parents, a leading expert in counter-extremism education has warned.

Kamal Hanif OBE, who was appointed by the Government to turn around three schools at the heart of the “Trojan Horse” scandal, said that some teachers have a “misplaced” concern that they will cause offence if they raise 9/11 in the classroom.

He said that some teachers – particularly those who work in schools with a high proportion of Muslim students – see it as a contentious topic and shy away from teaching it.
“Teachers sometimes have a fear that this might be controversial,” he said.
“[They think] if we teach about this we might get Muslim parents objecting.”

Mr Hanif, who is executive principal of Waverley Education Foundation and has advised the Department for Education (DfE) on combating counter-extremism in schools, said that such views are misguided.

“There is a fear [among teachers] but it is not really grounded in anything,” he said.

“It is based on their stereotypical view of a community as opposed to the reality. It is very misplaced. It is an assumption.”

His comments come ahead of the 16th anniversary of 9/11, which saw 2,997 killed when Al-Qaeda launched a series of coordinated terrorist attacks after hijacking planes and crashing them into the World Trade Centre complex and the Pentagon.
Mr Hanif is a trustee for the educational charity Since 9/11, which provides free teaching resources about the attacks and their aftermath.

The resources, which are endorsed by the Department for Education and the Home Office, are aimed at secondary school children, but the charity is now developing a new set of materials for primary schools.

Sir Steve Lancashire, the chief executive of a multi academy trust which which is piloting the materials in its 55 primary schools, said a lot of teachers feel “uncomfortable” about the legacy of 9/11.

“We need to address the nervousness of teachers to teach this kind of subject. Teacher don’t feel well equipped on facts – there are a lot of conspiracy theories, a lot of misinformation,” he said.

The superhead said teachers are scared that they will be accused by their students of being Islamophobic if they try to teach about 9/11 and its legacy.
It’s children saying ‘you are attacking Muslims, you are attacking our faith’, that kind of thing,” he said……
