  1. More than half of Britons say Islam poses a threat to the West, a new study is claiming, as the UK becomes more polarised.
Although British people are generally becoming more liberal with a higher proportion of people supporting immigration, attitudes have hardened at either end of the spectrum.
    Reuters
The EU referendum appears to be one factor that reinforced divides, the research based on a Populus survey of 4,000 peope claimed, with views both in favour and opposed to leaving becoming more entrenched.
The study published by Hope not Hate, an anti-fascist campaigning charity, said that as Britain became more liberal since 2011, religious discrimination and Islamophobia had reduced.
However still 52 per cent of English people agree that Islam poses a threat to the West and 42 per cent say recent terror attacks have increased their suspicion of Muslims in Britain.
‘The fear and hostility displayed towards Muslims is deeply worrying, despite most people claiming that they stand firm against extremists’ attempt to conflate their heinous actions with that of an entire religion,’ said Hope not Hate chief executive Nick Lowles.
‘Clearly there is a lot of work to be done here, both by those tackling hate crimes and misinformation, and potentially by Muslim communities themselves.’
Billed as ‘one of the most comprehensive studies of English attitudes towards contemporary issues’, the report says there is a ‘real space’ for Nigel Farage to launch a new populist party with 15 per cent of people identifying him as the leader who most closely represents their views.
Pointing to earlier research, the report says the polarisation prompted by the EU referendum ‘has continued and if anything deepened’.
It says: ‘An increasing number of people are more tolerant and open to immigration and multiculturalism, but a quarter of society remain firmly opposed and, their views are hardening.’
Co-author Rosie Carter said although there had been a ‘liberal surge’ views were ‘hardening’.
She said according to the Independent: ‘The picture we got from the report is worrying. It shows that this is a country that’s quite tense and there’s a lot of concern about differences.
‘These negative attitudes improved quite a lot between 2011 and 2016, but we’ve seen a reverse in the past year. And it’s very divided: among the most liberal group 84 per cent would reject the association of Muslims with extremism, but around the same proportion of the least tolerant group would say that association is OK.’
She added: ‘The key finding of the report was this polarisation in society. Where there’s been a liberal surge after Brexit, attitudes have hardened as well.
‘The response to the recent terror attacks have generally been a sense of togetherness, with the majority of Britons welcoming acts of unity. But while there is definitely this appetite, there is a stark division, which needs to be addressed.’

    • That report is laughable horseshit!
All you have to do is read social media to see more people are waking up to the fact that Islam is a problem and that the UK is disappearing before our eyes.
Hope not Hate and the Independent are not bias what so ever!

    • Well established scientific or medical consensus…”

I certainly hope that everyone realizes how medical “consensus” is responsible for the deaths of millions of women (from puerperal fever). Equally possible is millions more deaths due to (similarly useless) “consensus” about The Great Warmening”.

Please read Michael Crichton’s brilliant twelve-page essay, “Aliens Cause Global Warming“. In it he tears consensus “science” five bright shiny new ones (as it so richly deserves).

Sassy, your contribution of this video segment could not be more timely. Please peruse my trailing “Notes from NorseRadish” to see what I mean. Nothing would please me more than to read your own assessment of my essay.

    • Darwin on the Need for Speculation in Science
      Steve Sailer • June 15, 2014

One of the less terrible reviews of Nicholas Wade’s A Troublesome Inheritance was the Wall Street Journal essay by Henry Louis Gates and a Harvard geneticist. Gates reposted it on his page on The Root with the following heading:

Why It’s Time to End Speculation About Race in Genomics

Genomic technology makes it possible to stop using science to make the case for the superiority or inferiority of any race, Harvard scholars David Altshuler and Henry Louis Gates Jr. argue in an incisive piece at the Wall Street Journal.

BY: DAVID ALTSHULER AND HENRY LOUIS GATES JR.
      Posted: June 8 2014 1:25 PM

That seems to be the more highbrow fallback position: Wade admits (prominently) that chapters 6 to 10 are “speculative,” and we all know speculation isn’t Science!

Of course, as F. Scott Fitzgerald suggested, the crucial test of a first rate mind is to not get stumped when we run into the common pattern that good things tend to be a blend of seeming opposites. For example, scientific progress needs both reliable facts and speculation. Thus, to “end speculation” is to end the advance of science (which may be the point).

That’s not an original insight. One of the more important exchanges of letters in scientific history was between naturalists Alfred Russel Wallace and Charles Darwin in 1857-58. In 1857 the younger Wallace, on a collecting trip in Southeast Asia, wrote the better-known Darwin about his still evolving ideas on evolution. Darwin gave the reply below encouraging Wallace to speculate, with epochal consequences.

(Early in 1858, Wallace independently conceived of the mechanism of natural selection, which Darwin had been working on since the 1830s, and dispatched to Darwin an essay entitled “On the Tendency of Species to form Varieties.” Darwin’s friends arranged for a joint reading of Wallace’s essay and a couple of pieces by Darwin establishing his priority at a scientific meeting on July 1, 1858, which Darwin followed up in 1859 with his big book on The Origins of Species. (Wallace, who strikes me as one of the saintlier men in scientific history, was always a good sport about it.)

Here’s part of Darwin’s 1857 response to Wallace:

      My dear Sir

I thank you for your letter of Sept. 27th—f1 I am extremely glad to hear that you are attending to distribution in accordance with theoretical ideas. I am a firm believer, that without speculation there is no good & original observation.

Few travellers have tended to such points as you are now at work on; & indeed the whole subject of distribution of animals is dreadfully behind that of Plants.— You say that you have been somewhat surprised at no notice having been taken of your paper in the Annals:f2 I cannot say that I am; for so very few naturalists care for anything beyond the mere description of species. But you must not suppose that your paper has not been attended to: two very good men, Sir C. Lyell & Mr E. Blyth at Calcutta specially called my attention to it.f3 Though agreeing with you on your conclusion in that paper, I believe I go much further than you; but it is too long a subject to enter on my speculative notions.— …

… You ask whether I shall discuss “man”;—I think I shall avoid whole subject, as so surrounded with prejudices, though I fully admit that it is the highest & most interesting problem for the naturalist.— My work, on which I have now been at work more or less for 20 years, will not fix or settle anything; but I hope it will aid by giving a large collection of facts with one definite end: I get on very slowly, partly from ill-health, partly from being a very slow worker.— I have got about half written; but I do not suppose I shall publish under a couple of years. I have now been three whole months on one chapter on Hybridism!f11

I am astonished to see that you expect to remain out 3 or 4 years more:f12 what a wonderful deal you will have seen; & what interesting areas,—the grand Malay Archipelago & the richest parts of S. America!— I infinitely admire & honour your zeal & courage in the good cause of Natural Science; & you have my very sincere & cordial good wishes for success of all kinds; & may all your theories succeed, except that on oceanic islands, on which subject I will do battle to the death

Pray believe me. | My dear Sir | Yours very sincerely | C. Darwin [Bold highlighting mine]

  3. Notes from NorseRadish —

Preface: This commentary is a subset of another, much larger opus that I have titled, “The Dark Side of Technology”. While it is a given fact that all technologies are “dual use” (i.e., intrinsically beneficial and detrimental), few new arrivals have had such a pronounced “ripple effect” upon human civilization-as-a-whole than the conjunction of mobile telecom devices and the information applications that run on them. An oddball proof of this over-dependence upon mobile devices is how several American cities now impose fines for “distracted walking”—something that has been connected to a sharp increase in urban pedestrian traffic fatalities.

THIS NEXT ARTICLE is the first I’ve seen to seriously address the outsized impact that Social Media and tech conglomerates like Alphabet (nee Google) have had upon our global community.

Should Anti-trust Laws Be Used to Break Up the Social Media Giants?

The secular Left and the proponents of Islamic blasphemy laws have a new issue on which they are making common cause: the quest to destroy the freedom of speech, the cornerstone of our democracy. After Charlottesville, the Left sees its chance to crush all dissent, and given its alliance with Islamic supremacists, this means the implementation in the West of prohibitions on criticism of Islam, including counterterror analysis of the motivating ideology of jihad terrorists. This anti-free speech initiative, if it succeeds, will destroy free society, which cannot exist if one is unable to speak out against the tyrant.

The Left is trying to use Charlottesville as its Reichstag Fire moment to try to crush all dissent. CNN gave the Southern Poverty Law Center’s spurious “hate group” list wide play, and an effort has begun to deny all platforms to those “hate groups,” without any regard for the fact that the SPLC includes legitimate organizations that dissent from the Leftist agenda (including the David Horowitz Freedom Center and Jihad Watch) on the list along with the KKK and neo-Nazis, in an attempt to defame and destroy the legitimate groups.

Spearheading anti-free speech efforts on the Islamic side is a little-known organization that comprises most of the Muslim governments around the world today: the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which is made up of fifty-six member nations plus the Palestinian Authority and constitutes the largest voting bloc at the United Nations. The OIC has been working for years to try to compel the West to restrict the freedom of speech, and particularly the freedom to criticize Islam.

Essentially, they want to impose a key principle of Sharia — which forbids blasphemy against Allah, Muhammad, and Islam — on the entire non-Muslim world. They are advancing this initiative by trying to compel the West to criminalize “incitement to religious hatred,” which essentially means criticism of Islam; no international body has ever objected to criticism of Judaism, Christianity, or any other religion. Hat tip: Frontpage & Richard

Speaking as someone who detests government over-regulation, there is a clear need for intervention due to how Social Media (in particular) has evolved into one of the most hideously intrusive, unhealthy, and domineering industries since Big Tobacco or the Military-Industrial Complex.

Although it is impossible to ignore the issue of individual, personal responsibility—with respect to placing limits on one’s own reliance upon such technologies—equally difficult to dismiss is how these tech titans have deliberately calibrated their applications to be psychologically addictive. Much in the same way that tobacco companies purposefully augmented the nicotine content of their products.

One sign of this mobile device over-dependency now manifests as “lifestyle envy”, which sees online members passively cyberstalking other website contributors as part of vicariously participating in their (more desirable) activities. Additionally, there is emerging a direct correlation between time spent online and psychological depression.

Small wonder that modern high school students currently test for anxiety levels that (during the 1950’s) qualified people for institutional confinement. Furthermore, this sort of cyber over-engagement has resulted in an alarming proportion of Western youth spending less time out-of-doors than Super-Max prisoners. A direct byproduct of this is Nature Deficit Disorder (see: Richard Louve, “Last Child in the Woods”). It is a disconnection from one’s immediate environment (especially the natural world) that promotes myriad negative health issues while creating psychological and educational complications to a degree that most users are totally unaware of.

Many of the people reading these words can remember a time when there were (per William Gibson) “wooden televisions”, as in furniture-grade consoles. Likewise, more than a few of us recall plinking out school reports on a manual typewriter—electric if we were fortunate enough.

In just the past decade or two there has emerged Generation Z, otherwise known as the “Digital Generation”. This is an entire cohort that has never known a world without computers or Internet connectivity. More than a few times I have heard people lament the loss of their smart phone as “losing their life”. In fact, a large proportion of modern young adults were polled only to discover that nearly fifty percent of them would rather lose their sense of smell than forsake their smart phone’s connectivity.

With this in mind, try and imagine the extent of how Google or Facebook can invade the privacy of its most frequent users. This level of intrusion is something that too readily compromises any person’s most basic Constitutional rights.

Voluntarily or not, this sort of fine-grained external scrutiny is unhealthy for any culture, at any stage. Rather revealing is how Google has maintained a long-term relationship with the NSA and CIA. Provided with seed-funding by these agencies, Google’s data-gathering capabilities have all-too-capably served the ends of these clandestine spy organizations.

Far more telling is how Google, Yahoo, Cisco, Juniper Networks, and many other tech giants—all of whom were spawned in the free market’s ultimate cradle of Silicon Valley—had no compunctions about assisting Communist China in building their “Great Firewall” that tracks individuals who search on counter-revolutionary terms like “democracy” or “representative government” and blocks access to vast numbers of international websites that provide less propagandized content.

Even now, Facebook and Instagram are tailoring their applications to meet the more stringent (and oppressive) guidelines of totalitarian regimes like Iran. At the very least, it is that sort of willingness to cooperate with some of this world’s very worst abusers of human rights which merits placing these tech titans under the microscope in order to determine how best to dismantle their overweening grasp upon the lives of those who foolishly enmesh themselves with these predatory entities.

Over a century ago, Louis Dembitz Brandeis, the first Jewish justice of America’s Supreme Court, proclaimed that “Sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants.” It is long overdue to shine some disinfecting sunlight into the dark corners of these Social Media giants and their digital cronies.

        • Nor do I.
I don’t tolerate “multi-tasking” on my time. Somebody glances over or fiddles with a phone, I walk away.

        • Neither do I.

And, thank you everyone for checking in. Social Media will end up proving itself to be one of the most detrimental “innovations” within this new century.

I have speculated about what the backlash against Social Media will look like and it is certain to be ugly. The mere notion of Zuckerberg running for president makes my blood run cold.

I’m especially glad to know that many of you will not tolerate people diddling their smart phone in the middle of a conversation or other activity. Doing so represents a level of self-absorption that revolts me.

          • We’ll look back on this interlude and marvel at our collective foolishness.

As we're picking through the rubble and finding bits of blasted junk. And stray splinters of bone.

      • I don’t do it; I don’t tolerate it.
Don’t have time or sympathy for the willingly befuddled.

        I think this is a self-limiting issue.
Wars have a way of ‘blanking the slate’. An EMP attack might bring the world of the shoulder-tatoo girl in the clip to an abrupt end.
Also, random, sudden slashings by tards run amok tend to raise situational awareness.

    • There is a screaming need for the government to step in and breakup the big monopolistic companies in the digital world, the problem we are facing is that the big companies are supporting the Dems and any regulation would see the Deep State regulating away all opposition, just like the big companies are doing.

      • We’ve got to do it ourselves. Create and patronize alternatives.
You’re right, can’t count on the government.
        Probably never could.

Pres. Adams is distracting me, laughing over my shoulder.

      • There is a screaming need for the government to step in and breakup the big monopolistic companies in the digital world…

I agree. The ability of these tech giants to skew social behavior is now approaching plague-like proportions. Another decade of them meddling with human behavior and the ramifications could be disastrous.

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) – A San Bernardino County prosecutor in the midst of a gang-murder trial was bloodied and beaten into unconsciousness Thursday while on a morning jog in Newport Beach.

Investigators are working to determine whether the assault, which occurred around 6 a.m. at Bob Henry Park near East 16th Street and Dover Drive, was related to her job.

    • This stoy should be force fed to everyone who says that Illegal Immigration harms no one , the illegal immigrants are causing some areas in the US to turn into Thrrd World nations run by drug cartels. Combine the damage the illegals are doing to the rule of law with the damage that the Dems and their useful idiots are doing to the rule of law and you discover that the US is in as bad a shape as the European nations with the Islamic invasion.

Incidents like this are are what are fueling the ordinary people to organize and work to take our country back from the self proclaimed political elites in both parties that have cause the collapse of our civilization.

      • Republicans aren’t much good either. Voted against recess appointments so our President couldn’t fill vacancies with law-&-order judges.
They’re all in the tank. Gotta pull the plug.

        • You are right, the minimum we need is a Constitutional Convention to amend the Constitution, barring that follow the advice of Jefferson and have a revolution.

          • Tom and John and Ben – this isn’t what they had in mind. It’s run its course, I’m afraid. It’s wholly unsuited for an immoral irreligious people.

            • They said our nation was for believers and would fail if we left Christianity. This is something the left doesn’t want us to know.

  5. Norway election 2017: Terror fears see politicians’ security increased days before vote (express, Sep 1, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/848913/Norway-election-2017-terror-warning-politicians-security-increased

“NORWAY is on high alert of a terror attack with politicians facing increased security just days before the general election.

The Norwegian Police Security Service (PST) revealed concerns have increased in the country following a spate of atrocities across Europe.

Attacks on London, Manchester, Barcelona and others, have seen extra precautions put in place.

Ahead of the parliamentary election, which will be held on September 11, the leader of PST’s bodyguard service, Harald Thorp, told broadcasting company, NRK: “(He fears) either a substantial attack by a terrorist group or individuals.

“It is always a fear that something like that will happen.”

Since the beginning of April, PST has regarded a terror attack on Norway as likely.

Officials point out that there are extremists living in Norway, inside and outside of organised groups, which may sympathise with terror groups elsewhere.

Leader for PST, Benedicte Bjørnland, says the recent attacks may have a “copycat” impact on Islamic extremists in Norway.

But PST said a terror attack from the extreme right-wing in Norway is unlikely…”

  6. FBI, Homeland Security warn of more ‘antifa’ attacks

Confidential documents call the anarchists that seek to counter white supremacists ‘domestic terrorists.’

    By JOSH MEYER

    09/01/2017 04:55 AM EDT

Federal authorities have been warning state and local officials since early 2016 that leftist extremists known as “antifa” had become increasingly confrontational and dangerous, so much so that the Department of Homeland Security formally classified their activities as “domestic terrorist violence,” according to interviews and confidential law enforcement documents obtained by POLITICO.

Since well before the Aug. 12 rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, turned deadly, DHS has been issuing warnings about the growing likelihood of lethal violence between the left-wing anarchists and right-wing white supremacist and nationalist groups.

Previously unreported documents disclose that by April 2016, authorities believed that “anarchist extremists” were the primary instigators of violence at public rallies against a range of targets. They were blamed by authorities for attacks on the police, government and political institutions, along with symbols of “the capitalist system,” racism, social injustice and fascism, according to a confidential 2016 joint intelligence assessment by DHS and the FBI.

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin says that whoever reaches a breakthrough in developing artificial intelligence will come to dominate the world.

Putin, speaking Friday at a meeting with students, said the development of AI raises “colossal opportunities and threats that are difficult to predict now.”

He warned that “the one who becomes the leader in this sphere will be the ruler of the world.”

Putin warned that “it would be strongly undesirable if someone wins a monopolist position” and promised that Russia would be ready to share its know-how in artificial intelligence with other nations.

  8. Russia Promises Tough Response Over Consulate Closures

Russia promises a tough response to a U.S. order to shutdown Russian consulates in the U.S.

This comes after the White House gave Russia 48 hours Thursday to follow through with its request.

U.S. officials describe the move as retaliation to the Kremlin’s demand for the U.S. to cut its diplomatic staff in Russia following new sanctions imposed by the White House.

Russian officials say they were surprised by the move, and claim the conflict between the two nations was started by the U.S

Tensions continue to rise between China and Vietnam as China conducts military drills near disputed islands in the South China Sea.

Hanoi is making an effort to unite other nations of South East Asia in opposition to China’s growing influence and military presence in the region.

China has built artificial islands in the sea, stirring tensions with its neighbors.

China controls the Paracel Islands, which are also claimed by Taiwan and Vietnam.

In response to Hanoi’s protest, Beijing called on Vietnam to take a calm and rational view of its military exercise.

SEOUL (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump agreed with South Korean President Moon Jae-in to revise a joint treaty capping the development of the South’s ballistic missiles, Moon’s office said on Saturday, amid a standoff over North Korea’s missile and nuclear tests.

Trump also gave “conceptual” approval to the purchase by the South of billions of dollars of U.S. military hardware, the White House said.

The South wants to raise the missile cap to boost its defenses against the reclusive North, which is pursuing missile and nuclear weapons programs in defiance of international warnings and UN sanctions.

First we heard that radical-left activist Linda Sarsour had put out a call for donations for “Harvey relief,” to be made to a SEIU-funded advocacy organization that plans to make political hay of the disaster. Donors’ money wouldn’t be going to help flood victims; it would be going to fund political activism.

“Iraqi authorities say at least three attackers entered a power station in Samarra and blew themselves up, killing seven workers and wounding eight security forces.

Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasool says two attackers disguised themselves as workers and a third wore a security forces uniform. The attack happened at dawn Saturday.

No one immediately claimed responsibility, but an Iraqi intelligence officer says Samarra authorities were warned of possible Islamic State attacks in the area. He spoke anonymously because he’s not authorized to speak to the media.

Electricity Ministry spokesman Musaab al-Mudaris says seven employees were killed and eight security forces were wounded. He says there were four attackers.

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/italian-island-seeks-deal-algerian-migrant-flow-49581598

“The governor of the Italian island of Sardinia has asked the central government to do something about Algerian migrants who have been landing undetected.

Italian news agency ANSA said Saturday that about 800 Algerians had reached the Mediterranean island aboard smugglers’ boats directly from their homeland so far this year.

It quoted Gov. Francesco Pigliaru as warning about “social alarm” among Sardinians, citing crimes allegedly committed by recent arrivals. He asked Italy’s government to work with Algerian authorities to stop the flow.

Those numbers pale compared to the hundreds of thousands of migrants reaching Italy after rescue at sea from smugglers’ vessels launched from Libya in the last few years. With Italians increasingly reluctant to care for so many, Italy is aiding Libyan authorities to block that lucrative trafficking route.”

The AfD’s youth wing Junge Alternative (JA) handed out around 150 pepper spray canisters in the centre of the town. Damian Lohr, a spokesman for JA and a member of the regional parliament, said the main purpose of the action was to help locals to defend against animals but also attacks from people in “emergency situations”, regional public broadcaster Südwestrundfunk reports.

  15. Channel 4 Doc Reveals British Teachers Telling Pupils: ‘There’s a Lot of Similarities Between Hitler and Trump’ (breitbart, Sep 2. 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/09/02/channel-4-british-teachers-pupils-similarities-hitler-trump/

“A new Channel 4 documentary shows British teachers telling pupils there are “a lot of similarities between Hitler and Trump”, and contending that the most important people to look after following the Manchester Arena terror bombing are Muslim pupils.

Harrop Fold Secondary in Salford, Manchester, was formerly ranked one of the worst in Britain and is led by three brothers: Headteacher Drew Povey, Deputy Head Ross Povey, and Ben Povey on the Behaviour Team.

Channel 4 puts heavy emphasis on Middle Eastern migrant pupils in the film, particularly a Syrian boy named Rani, who is taken under the wing of a local boy named Jack.

Drew Povey notes that when he began working at the school 12 years ago, it was 99 per cent White British, but this is clearly no longer the case, resulting in “challenges”.

Asked about the migrant influx, one young white pupil named Freya says: “They could be at war and they need to come over so they’ve got a safe place to be, but at the same time there’s not enough places to live in this part of the country for other people.”

One scene shows a woman who appears to be a teacher asking her class: “Hands up if you were born elsewhere?”

Later, she says: “Just because some of us is an immigrant, I don’t get why people put a negative slant on it.”

Then after what appears to be an awkward cut in the film, she is shown asking the class: “There’s a lot of similarities between Hitler and Trump, yeah?”

“But Trump’s got better hair than him,” jokes a Czech pupil in response.

“Mmm, I don’t think he does,” huffs the teacher, unwilling to concede even this much to the U.S. president.

Some pupils at the school were at Manchester Arena when Salman Abedi, the son of a Libyan Islamist who came to Britain as a refugee, carried out a suicide bombing, killing 22.

One boy, who was there with his younger female cousin, breaks down in tears recounting how he escaped the blast.

The teachers then have an interesting discussion on what their priorities should be following the attack.

“It’s the support we give to our Muslim community in here as well, isn’t it, because they will be the ones that will be feeling hypersensitive,” says the headteacher.

“It’s about trying to get the kids to discuss people’s different cultural beliefs and backgrounds, and how these things are not directly linked to religions,” contributes an ethnic minority colleague.

The same colleague tells the filmmakers: “A lot of work needs to be done on how to deal with racial tension or people attacking other people’s religion since these bombings”.

He is not shown discussing the importance of watching out for signs of radicalisation.

Headteacher Povey appears to be on the same page: “We’ve got to deal with [Islamophobia] quickly as a school.”

The Muslim migrant pupils do not appear to be in much need of protection, however.

At a get together for foreign pupils, a Polish child with weak English is screamed at for being “a racist” by a Syrian who ended up in Britain despite having first travelled to the safe Mediterranean country of Cyprus.

She was falsely accused of saying “they all look like terrorists” after questioning why Middle Eastern migrants’ fingerprints are taken by the Home Office. She received no support from the teacher, who sided with the Middle Eastern pupils and privately advised her to watch what she says.

Later, a pupil from Afghanistan is called ‘Osama’ as a joke by a white pupil, who is then cornered and manhandled outside the school building, and threatened he must never say anything like that to a Muslim.

The Syrian who earlier accused the Polish girl of racism explains to the filmmakers that migrants may joke amongst themselves about each other’s countries as friends, but that if “outsiders” do so there is “a problem”.

Teachers speak to the Afghan briefly about keeping his cool, praising him as a lovely lad, whilst the pupil he became physical with is giving an angry dressing down for his “unacceptable” comments by the headteacher.”

  16. Tunisian Asylum Seeker on Trial for Killing and Dismembering Couple (breitbart, Sep 2, 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/09/02/tunisian-asylum-seeker-trial-killing-dismembering-fellow-migrants/

“A 37-year-old Tunisian asylum seeker in the German city of Leipzig is facing trial for the alleged murder of a couple who he is said to have brutally killed then dismembered before disposing of their bodies in a nearby lake.

The murder is said to have happened last summer and saw the 37-year-old come into the couple’s home where he murdered both of them using a hammer and a knife. After killing them, he allegedly dismembered the bodies, dumped them in a nearby lake, and looted the home of all the valuables inside. Prosecutors are demanding he receives a life sentence for the double-murder, Saechische Zeitung reports.

According to the accused’s lawyer, the alleged attacker knew one of his victims as he worked with him on a construction site. The defence claimed the altercation came about due to a pay dispute relating to work the man had previously done.

The 37-year-old admitted to his lawyer that he had killed the couple and disposed of their bodies but said he found the weapons at the house rather than bringing them himself. Suspect and victims were all rejected asylum seekers…”

  17. Ryanair flight delayed by ‘drunk jihadist jokers’ (BBC, Sep 2, 2017)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-41136458

“A flight from Brussels to Madrid was delayed by more than two hours while police searched for explosives after a party of Belgian men started making jokes about being Islamists with bombs.

Passengers were evacuated as police conducted their search, officials say.

Prosecutors say the men appeared to be drunk as they were boarding the Ryanair flight early on Saturday morning.

A man in his 50s was taken away and is likely to be put through a fast-track court procedure.

“The flight commander refused to take nine people,” police spokesman Peter De Waele told VTM Nieuws. “One of them made a crazy joke and starting calling out ‘Allahu Akbar.'”

All the luggage also had to be removed from the plane to be examined by bomb squad sniffer dogs…”

  18. Germany declines Turkish request to freeze Gulen assets – Spiegel (reuters, Sep 2, 2017)
    http://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-germany-turkey/germany-declines-turkish-request-to-freeze-gulen-assets-spiegel-idUKKCN1BD0GM

“Germany has rejected a formal request from Turkey to freeze assets of members of the network of U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, accused by Ankara of orchestrating last year’s failed coup, Germany’s Spiegel magazine reported on Saturday.

The move is likely to worsen already strained ties between the two NATO allies after Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Friday Germany should react decisively to Turkey’s detention of two more German citizens on political charges.

Without naming its sources, the magazine said the Turkish government had asked the Foreign Ministry in Berlin at the end of April to freeze the assets of the Gulen organisation and its members in Germany. It attached a list with 80 names, it said.

The German government officially rejected the request at the end of June, telling Ankara there were no legal grounds for Germany’s financial watchdog BaFin to crack down on the Gulen movement and its supporters, the report said.

The Foreign Ministry in Berlin declined to comment.

The report also said that the number of Turkish extradition requests sent to Germany had jumped to 53 since the beginning of the year, already exceeding the total in the whole of 2016.

Turkey’s private Dogan news agency said Turkish authorities had detained two German nationals on Thursday over suspected links to last year’s failed coup attempt.

Dogan said the two German citizens of Turkish origin were detained at the Antalya airport, a popular Mediterranean tourist destination, over alleged links to the Gulen organisation.

It said the two suspects, identified only as K.A. and S.A., were transferred to the provincial police headquarters.

Turkish officials were not immediately available for comment, with the celebrations for the Muslim festival of Eid causing delays in contacting officials.

Twelve German citizens are now in Turkish detention on political charges, four of them holding dual citizenship. Among these is German-Turkish journalist Deniz Yucel, who will have been in detention 200 days on Friday.

The detentions have further strained ties between Germany and Turkey after relations hit a low when President Tayyip Erdogan said Merkel’s Christian Democrats were enemies of Turkey and called on Turks in Germany to vote against major parties in this month’s elections.

Social Democrat Martin Schulz, Merkel’s main challenger in Sept. 24 elections, and other German politicians have urged the German government to issue a formal travel warning to raise the pressure on Turkey.

Such a step could mark a significant setback for Turkey, which already saw the number of foreign visitors drop to its lowest level in nine years last year. Bookings from Germany accounted for some 10 percent of Turkey’s tourists this year.”

    http://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-mideast-crisis-syria/syrian-army-gains-in-islamic-states-last-central-syria-bastion-idUKKCN1BD0B3

“The Syrian army and its allies were fighting on Saturday in Islamic State’s last pocket in central Syria after taking the heavily defended village of Uqairabat on Friday, a war monitor reported.

The enclave lies close to the main road running between the cities of Homs and Aleppo near the town of al-Salamiya, and has been the site of intense fighting for months. Evicting jihadists from the area is viewed as necessary to improve security on the road.

The Syrian army, aided by Russian airstrikes and Iran-backed Shi‘ite militias including Lebanon’s Hezbollah, has advanced deep into eastern Syria this year against Islamic State.

It is pushing to relieve its besieged enclave in the city of Deir al-Zor, one of the cities on the Euphrates to which Islamic State has fallen back after losses in both Syria and Iraq, but has left the pocket in central Syria in its rear.

Late on Friday, a military media unit run by Hezbollah said the army had captured Uqairabat, which it described as Islamic State’s stronghold in that region.

The war monitor, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said the army and its allies had also taken other villages in the area, aided by Russian helicopters, and reported that intense fighting continued.”

    • Syria: Russian Aerospace Forces continue airstrikes on IS targets in Deir ez-Zor

Russian Aerospace Forces continue to aid Syrian government troops by launching airstrikes on self-proclaimed Islamic State targets in Deir ez-Zor on Saturday, according to the Ministry of Defence of Russia, with the aim of liberating the city from IS control.

As a result of the Russian aviation Su-35 airstrikes, two tanks, two ammunition depots and supplies of weapons and fuel were reportedly destroyed.

  21. Canada preparing winter shelters as migrant wave continues

Montreal (AFP) – Canada expects migrants to continue border jumping from the United States for many more months, and officials said Friday they are readying temporary accommodation to deal with the surge through winter.

A harsh winter is around the corner, and the government launched an urgent call for the winterized mobile homes.

Many of the more than 7,000 migrants who crossed on foot from the US state of New York into Canada’s Quebec province since July 1 have been housed in tent cities near the border set up by the military.

Others were put up at Montreal’s Olympic stadium and other venues until better accommodations could be found.

“These tents do have heaters, but we also have a very, a very cold winter in this country,” said Transportation Minister Marc Garneau, who is also chairing an emergency task force to deal with the surge in asylum seekers.

“And so we are, as a precautionary measure, looking at the possibility of trailers… which have a more robust capability to be able to house people in colder conditions.”

Temperatures in eastern Canada dropped to 6 degrees Celsius (43 Fahrenheit) at night at the end of August and could fall further in the coming weeks.

The tendering documents say the trailers must be “comfortable in all seasons” and ready within six weeks of the awarding of the contract. Bids close on September 5.

The mobile homes would be needed to house 200 people in Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle, Quebec, about 60 kilometers (37 miles) south of Montreal.

Most of the recent arrivals are Haitians who face expulsion from the United States when their temporary asylum permit — granted after the devastating 2010 earthquake — expires at the end of the year.

The wave of migrants started after Donald Trump was elected president last year, with thousands crossing into central Manitoba province in the dead of winter.

One woman died in the cold before reaching the border, while two men lost their fingers to frostbite during the treacherous journey across snow-covered fields and backwoods.

  22. More than one MILLION schoolchildren do not speak English as first language (express, Sep 2, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/849283/immigration-news-children-speak-english-first-second-language-school

“MORE THAN one million schoolchildren in Britain do not speak English as their first language, with figures soaring by a whopping two-thirds in just a decade.

New data revealed that English is not the first language for the majority of pupils in more than 2,000 primary and secondary schools in the UK.

While in more than 200 schools, nine out of ten pupils did not speak English as their first language.

Now critics have warned the rising numbers could place a huge strain on schools, with English speaking pupils receiving less attention as teachers struggle to accommodate the needs of others.

Alp Mehmet, vice chairman of campaigning organisation Migration Watch UK, said: “This is the clearest possible evidence of the huge impact that massive levels of immigration are having.

“Not only do one in five primary school children not speak English as their mother tongue but the pace of change is incredibly rapid – the proportion is up by 50 per cent in a decade.

“The public are rightly concerned at the effect that this scale of immigration has on population growth, including a greater demand for school places and additional classroom facilities like interpreters, at a time when education budgets are stretched.

“The longer term problems posed for integration and the consequences for the nature of our society are immense. Effective government measures to address the public’s unease are more pressing than ever.”

The figures also revealed that in some parts of London, including Newham and Tower Hamlets, as much as three-quarters of the school roll is taken up by children who speak English as a second language.

And in towns such as Slough, Luton and Leicester the figure is 50 per cent.

The Department for Education claimed the rise was down to a significant increase in the number of children born to non-UK mothers, which has risen from 13.6 per cent to 28.8 per cent in the last 20 years.

Now the proportion of primary school children who do not speak English as their first language has risen from 13.5 per cent in 2007 to 20.6 per cent in 2017…”

  23. Islamist hate preacher who called for Britain to be DESTROYED to visit UK (express, Sep 2, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/849270/britain-houses-parliament-islamist-imam-uk

“A NOTORIOUS Islamist hate preacher who called for Britain to be “destroyed” is asking to meet with MPs in Parliament, it was reported today.

Sheikh Ekrima Sabri, a former Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and current Imam of the city’s Al-Aqsa Mosque, will visit Britain as part of a delegation organised by Pro-Palestinian group EuroPal, according to Jewish News Online.

An email sent to MPs announced the details of Sabri’s visit agenda and offered meetings in parliament with the group between Monday 11 and Friday 15 September.

Shockingly in a 2001 radio sermon he called for the destruction of Britain and the US and said: “Allah, destroy the US, its helpers and its agents. Allah, destroy Britain, its helpers and its agents. Allah, prepare those who will unite the Muslims and march in the steps of Saladin.”

Sabri has a history of anti-Semitic and terrorist-supporting views, including advocating using children for terrorist means.

In a sermon on Palestinian television, he said: “The Muslim loves death and [strives for] martyrdom.”

In addition to calling for the destruction of America and Britain, he has said Jews are “the most cowardly creatures Allah has ever created”, adding that he is “filled with rage toward the Jews”.

Joan Ryan MP, Labour Friends of Israel chair, said she was horrified Sabri was attempting to visit parliament “given his reported views on the holocaust, terrorism and the Jewish people.”

She added: “If these reports are true, he should not be allowed into the UK, let alone into Parliament.

“Giving a platform to those who spout hatred and violence is not the way to achieve justice and peace in the Middle East.”

A petition launched by the Christian United for Israel UK (CUFI UK) urging Home Secretary Amber Rudd to ban him from entering the UK and visiting Parliament has gathered more than 5,000 signatures.

A Home Office spokesman said: “The Home Secretary has the power to exclude an individual if she considers that his or her presence in the UK is not conducive to the public good.”

“We are clear that coming here is a privilege and this would be refused to those who seek to subvert our shared values.”

  24. Spain: Protesters demonstrate against Nazi and Anti-Semitic graffiti at Fuencarral cemetery

A group of protesters demonstrated against the recent desecration of the International Brigades memorial at the Fuencarral cemetery in Madrid on Saturday, condemning the Anti-Semitic graffiti Nazi symbols found on the monuments.

SOT, Paco Arnaure, Political activist (Spanish): “We are here at the Fuencarral Cemetery because there has been an attack by fascist groups on the memorials for the international volunteers who fought for the Spanish Republic, the International Brigades and also the Soviet volunteers, who have their own monument here as well.”

SOT, Javier Ruiz, Political activist (Spanish): “These people came here to defend what we today know as democratic values, and they fought in a war –and even died in it – to defend these values.”

SOT, Roman, Political activist (Spanish): “Fascists and nationalists are getting back on their feet in Europe, and I think this is very dangerous for Europe. I can personally say this is happening in Ukraine, where nationalist battalions, people with fascist ideologies, are killing their own people. And Europe is supporting that. So sometimes I ask myself why Europe is nurturing this fascism.”

  25. Muslims gathered for Eid al-Adha say they feel safe in Montreal

Members of a local mosque who gathered to mark Eid al-Adha Friday said that, despite the recent incidents at a mosque in Quebec City, the community feels welcome and safe in Montreal.

Several hundred worshippers from Montreal’s Muslim community gathered in a Little Burgundy park for a special prayer service organized by the Shah Jalal Islamic Centre in St-Henri.

[…]Member of Parliament for Ville-Marie—Le Sud-Ouest—Île-des-Soeurs Marc Miller attended the service and said he felt it was important to be there to show support for the community.

“I think as an open and welcoming society, I feel it’s important to show up at a numbers of these events to show support,” he said. “The Muslim community is one of them that is fragilized, particularly by events around the world and the recent event in Quebec City.”

He added that he felt it was important for politicians to stand up and support the community “that has the right to live like you and me in Canada in peace.”

“Canada is deeply enriched by the contributions of the Muslim community’s commitment to respect and dialogue. Canadian society is stronger because of the generosity and compassion of the Muslim community,” said Kwan in the statement.

“As New Democrats, we recommit to defending human rights in Canada and around the world and to fighting against racism and Islamophobia.

    • Justin Trudeau Celebrates `Eid with Concerned Muslims

TORONTO – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau joined Muslims in the city of Saskatoon to celebrate `Eid and told the audience that Canadians must stand together against racism and Islamophobia.

“Whether we are in a big city or a small town, we must continue to stand together, united against racism, hatred and Islamophobia,” Trudeau told the crowd.

“This is just who we are as Canadians. We are there for each other. We stand up for each other.”

The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) has raised concern about rising attacks targeting Canadian Muslim communities, including the firebombing of a car belonging to president of the same Quebec mosque where six worshippers were killed and many gravely injured in a terrorist attack last January.

“Canadian Muslims are preparing to celebrate `Eid al-Adha, one of two sacred Islamic holidays,” said NCCM Executive Director Ihsaan Gardee in a media statement released earlier in the week.

“But news of hate incidents and attacks targeting Muslims continue to be reported across the country, putting a chill on what is meant to be a time of joy and celebration.

“We call on our elected representatives and law enforcement authorities to forcefully condemn all forms of hatred and racism, including Islamophobia, and to stand in solidarity with all targeted communities.”

According to news reports, the vehicle belonging to Mohamed Labidi, the president of the Quebec Islamic Cultural Centre, was torched just 36 hours after the local Muslim community and Quebec City mayor Régis Labeaume announced the purchase of city-owned land for a cemetery on August 6.

“This attack is deeply disturbing, particularly as it happened just hours after news that the Quebec City Muslim community had finally acquired land for a cemetery where they could bury their deceased loved ones,” said NCCM Communications Director Amira Elghawaby.

According to the NCCM, more anti-Muslim hate incidents have been reported in the month of August in Canada than any other month so far in 2017. Incidents include death threats, acts of vandalism, and harassment.

“It’s clearly time for all levels of government to immediately address the phenomenon of growing far-right and white supremacist extremism,” added Elghawaby.

“As we mark the end of the Hajj with celebration, Canadian Muslims know that these cowardly acts of hate do not represent the views of the vast majority of fellow Canadians,” said NCCM Executive Director Ihsaan Gardee.

“It’s unfortunate that a minority of misguided individuals seek to divide our society. They will not succeed.”

  26. New NGO Racket: Smuggling, Inc.

Sometimes it is in the gap between things that the truth emerges.

In recent years Europe has been on the receiving end of one of the most significant migrant crises in history. In 2015, in just a single year, countries such as Germany and Sweden found themselves adding 2% to their respective populations. Although much of the public continue to labour under the misapprehension that those still coming are fleeing the Syrian civil war; in fact, the majority of those now entering Europe are from Africa, particularly from sub-Saharan Africa.

Although the European Union successfully bribed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan last year — inducing him to slow the flow of migrants heading through Turkey into Greece — Italy has received almost 100,000 people so far this year. Spain — which had ducked much of the movement of recent years — now finds itself receiving thousands of people who are sometimes (as in this memorable footage from earlier this month) simply landing on the country’s beaches and running straight into the country. In doing so, they are not only breaking into Europe in a fashion that is illegal, but flouting all the asylum protocols, and other protocols, however inadequate, that are meant to exist.

  31. BREAKING: North Korea readies HYDROGEN BOMB as Kim Jong-un ‘watches loading into ICBM’ (express, Sep 2, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/849367/north-korea-war-threat-kim-jong-un-watch-hydrogen-h-bomb-load-ballistic-missile-ICBM

“KIM Jong-un has supervised the loading of a hydrogen bomb into an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), capable of reaching the US, it has been reported

North Korea has said it has developed a more advanced nuclear weapon that has “great destructive power” amid World War 3 fears.

Kim Jong-un’s state media mouthpiece NCNA declared the hydrogen bomb’s power is adjustable to hundreds of kilotons and can be detonated at high altitudes.

It also boasted that these latest components would allow the country to build as many nuclear weapons as it wants.

KCNA reported: “Kim Jong-un said he felt the pride at the indomitably bolstering up of [North Korea’s] nuclear forces despite a great price as he watched the Juche-oriented thermonuclear weapon with super explosive power made by our own efforts and technology.

“He expressed great satisfaction over the fact that our scientists can do anything without fail if the party is determined to do.

“The scientists further upgraded its technical performance at a higher ultra-modern level on the basis of precious successes made in the first H-bomb test.”

KCNA also hit out at earlier reports that its missile parts were imported from the Ukraine as it declared its hyrdrogen bomb was entirely homemade.

It said: “All components of the H-bomb were homemade and all the processes ranging from the production of weapons-grade nuclear materials to precision processing of components.”

In the last two weeks the despot nation has attempted several missile launches and threatened the US-territory of Guam.

Earlier on Saturday, Kim Jong-un continued his war of words with US President Donald Trump across international waters, claiming any attempts by the “puppets” to locate North Korea’s ballistic missile launchers will not produce any useful result…”

    • I wish I knew if he has a hydrogen bomb or is just running his mouth, a closed society like North Korea is hard to get good intelligence from. Although it really doesn’t make much difference if he does or doesn’t, if he doesn’t he will withing a year and we will be faced with a major war. I really wish we had enough military assets to move now before he and China get ready. Granted a preemptive strike will create political turmoil in the US but we already have political turmoil and are in the opening stages of a civil war so we might as well strike before China is ready to order Kim to attack us.

      • Contrary to what Clinton, Bush 2.0, and 0bama wanted Americans to think about North Korea, TIME IS NOT ON OUR SIDE. In fact, over two decades of inaction have brought this situation to the crisis level we are seeing today.

Effectively, Clinton, Bush 2.0, and 0bama have given Trump zero choice. It is far too easy to imagine how much calumny would be heaped upon DJT should a successful nuclear attack be carried out by North Korea. He would be held solely accountable for such a disastrous outcome—despite the ultimately flaccid responses of three different two-term administrations from both sides of the aisle.

Equally disturbing is the MSM’s totally deaf-mute attitude towards Kim Jong-Un’s vociferous belligerence while even a slight bit of saber-rattling by the Oval Office is trumpeted (so to speak) as base warmongering.

Finally, entirely unlike Clinton, Bush 2.0, and 0bama, at least Trump is making some long overdue noises about how Red China (and to a nearly-equal degree, Russia) should be held accountable for this current state of affairs. This particular message deserves a strident and openly accusatory tone which brooks no further demands for “nuanced dialogue” and all the other diplomatic dawdling that America’s enemies constantly insist upon—even as the last grains of sand drain through the hourglass.

To close, North Korea’s pinpoint focus of its hatred upon America merits immediate retaliation. It is no small coincidence that one of the other most similarly deserving recipients of our unwanted attentions is Iran. Between them, these two rogue regimes are causing more global destabilization than any other nations besides Communist China and Russia.

  32. ‘Disgusting and disgraceful’ Brave soldiers who fought ISIS are STILL waiting for medals (expres, Sep 3, 2017)

“FURIOUS soldiers who helped to fight the scourge of Islamic extremism in West Africa four years ago have still not received campaign medals because the cash-strapped MoD cannot afford to make them.

More than 350 troops from the Royal Irish Regiment, Royal Marines and the RAF were deployed to Mali and surrounding countries to help train local forces combat the rising threat ISIS and al Qaeda.

The new General Service Medal 08 was finally announced by David Cameron in 2015 to recognise the efforts of soldiers sent to parts of the world on special operations which “kept Britain safe”.

But only a handful have received them.

Officials at the MoD Medal office admitted that “commercial constraints and increased financial scrutiny” meant that a second contract to make more of the medals has still not been agreed.

The delay sparked fury from serving soldiers, with one senior NCO calling the delay “disgusting and disrespectful”…”

    • When the next British civil war starts the government is going to regret pissing on the troops. All they have to do is look the other way when on patrol and the rebels will win.

      • Aside from casualty-causing incompetence, government ingratitude is one of the most guaranteed ways of angering a nation’s military.

        • There is an old quote that I can’t find to get the wording correct to be able to attribute it to the author that goes something like: “Honor your warriors or you will soon have none.” The left doesn’t want to honor the warriors because they will give them the standing to gather followers. This is one of the reasons a socialist/communist army isn’t very good.
