  1. Turkey to thwart regional plots: President Erdo?an (hurriyetdailynews, Jun 24, 2017)
    http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkey-to-thwart-regional-plots-president-erdogan-.aspx?pageID=238&nID=114710&NewsCatID=510

“Turkey will thwart all regional plots and those who think otherwise will get their answers on the field, President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an has said, adding that Ankara is aware of the “crisis scenarios” that are being tried to be staged in the region.

“We are aware of the games being played in Syria and Iraq and the crisis scenarios that are being tried to be staged in the region. However, we hope that everyone knows this truth; Turkey is too big a bite to be swallowed in these types of games,” Erdo?an said in his message released to mark Eid al-Adha on June 24.

“We are determined to give our answer on the field to those who think that they can make our country surrender to these types of traps. It will be too late for those who set their eyes on our territorial integrity and national unity when they understand their mistakes,” he also said.

A day earlier, President Erdo?an said that Turkey will “never” allow the establishment of a state in northern Syria, while criticizing the United States for cooperating with the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and its armed wing Peoples’ Protection Units (YPG)…”

“Pakistani security forces have arrested more than 60 terrorists they suspect were plotting to launch attacks in the run up to Eid in the country’s relatively peaceful Punjab province.

The arrests were made over the past few days as part of Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad (elimination of discord) launched on February 22 as a response to the continuing wave of terrorist attacks in Pakistan.

Twenty-nine suspects were arrested in Faisalabad and Gujranwala. “Most of them are terrorists’ facilitators. Fifty weapons and explosives have been recovered from them. These were to be used for terrorist activities on Eid Al Fitr,” the Counter Terrorism Department of the police said.

In another raid, the CTD claimed to have arrested three members of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi (LeJ) from Gujranwala.

The CTD said it has seized more than 11kg of explosives, one pipe bomb, improvised explosive devices, one suicide jacket, one cooler bomb, two remote controls for detonation of jackets, three detonators and other materials from them.

In Gujrat district, some 250 kilometres from Lahore, 23 members of Tahreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and Jammat-ur-Ahrar were arrested and illegal weapons and ammunition seized from them.
They were involved in facilitating terrorists, it said.

Three TTP members were arrested from Bahawalpur who were allegedly plotting an attack in the city on Eid.

In another raid, five alleged facilitators of militants were arrested in Mandi Bahauddin, some 350km from Lahore.

The Pakistan Rangers (Punjab), Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) reported to have taken part in the operation ahead of Eid in different parts of Punjab.”

“East Libyan forces said they had gained control on Saturday over one of two remaining districts of Benghazi where they faced armed resistance.

The advance in the central Souq al-Hout neighborhood was the latest step in the slow progress of the self-styled Libyan National Army commanded by Khalifa Haftar, which has been waging a campaign against Islamists and other opponents in Libya’s second city for more than three years.

In unusually heavy fighting in Benghazi over the past two days at least 13 men from the LNA were killed and 37 wounded, a medical official said. Many of those who died were killed by land mines, a military source said.

Along with Sabri, Souq al-Hout was one of the final holdouts of the LNA’s rivals…”

“If Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is confirmed dead, he is likely to be succeeded by one of his top two lieutenants, both of whom were Iraqi army officers under late dictator Saddam Hussein.

Experts on Islamist groups see no clear successor but regard Iyad al-Obaidi and Ayad al-Jumaili as the leading contenders, though neither would be likely to assume Baghdadi’s title of “caliph”, or overall commander of Muslims…”

  8. Charity Commission Slams Islamic School for Segregation, Radical Speakers (breitbart, Jun 24, 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/06/24/charity-commission-slams-luton-islamic-school-for-segregation-and-radical-speakers/

“A Luton Islamic School which segregated staff by gender and hosted radical speakers has been slammed by the Charity Commission and accused of misconduct.

The Rabia Educational Trust caters for 128 pupils, charges up to £2,300 a year, and has the stated ‘charitable aim’ of advancing “the single sex Islamic faith based education of girls and boys.”

It was found to have poor management, mismanaged accounts, and failed to protect pupils from potentially harmful views in the past, the regulator claimed in an inquiry report.

Concerns were first raised in 2012, and Ofsted has inspected Rabia Girl’s and Boy’s School four times since 2014. Although progress has been made there were still failings, the report said, and the institution remains under regulatory action by the school’s inspectorate.

In a report from April 2016, Ofsted noted that “Leaders and governors, through their actions, undermine the school’s work to promote fundamental British values”, and, “school leaders acknowledge that some guest speakers to the school have not been vetted with sufficient rigour”.

In response, the school’s trustees had promised to not allow foreign or religious speakers to address the students, but this did not go far enough, the Charity Commission said.

The school had also “insisted on segregating men and women through the use of a dividing screen across the middle of the room [at a meeting with the inspectors]”.

They later claimed this was a one off as the meeting was held in a prayer room. The Charity Commission accepted the excuse and insisted the meetings were moved.

The Commission has also criticised the trustees for being unable to “demonstrate sufficient accounting record to explain all the charity’s financial transaction” and there were reports of a series of dodgy property-related deals.

It emerged the trust had rented space to a private nursery linked to its chairman without permission from the Commission, claiming the rent was set above the market rate to address concerns about conflicts of interest.

They also disposed of a gym they operated to a not-for-profit company connected to one of its trustees and gave another charity a 99-year lease on a building without telling the Land Registry.

A statement from the Rabia Education Trust said that the trustees “have fully cooperated with the Charity Commission and will ensure that all recommendations are fully implemented”.

In reference to the charity sector generally, the Commission said, “there have been occasions when terrorists, and those with extremist views… have used charity events to make those views known”, and urged more to done to stop this.”
