        • Antifa is the modern version of the Brown Shirts, so far we haven’t seen the modern version of the military trained and armed Black Shirts but I am sure the left has plans for them in the near future.

    • Clashes as EDL members and anti-fascists demonstrate in Trafalgar Square (express, Apr 1, 2017)
      http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/786650/edl-britain-first-anti-fascist-protest-march-rally-clash-police-trafalgar-square-london

“PROTESTERS have clashed in central London during a planned march by the English Defence League (EDL) and Britain First.

The joint EDL Britain First event, described as a ”march against terrorism”, was called in the wake of the Westminster terror attack.

A counter-demonstration from Unite Against Fascism (UAF) is unfolding nearby.

Tensions ran high as former EDL leader Tommy Robinson arrived with dozens of police officers attempting to control the chaos.

Crowds gathered in Trafalgar Square from midday with Met Police ordering protestors to follow a set route.

UAF protesters chanted “EDL go to hell” as hundreds of protesters spilled onto the surrounding roads.

Scotland Yard announced it would be imposing conditions on the events under the Public Order Act.

Police said the information and intelligence available meant that they felt it necessary to impose the conditions to prevent the demonstrations from resulting in “serious disorder, serious damage to property, serious disruption to the life of the community, and to prevent the intimidation of local people trying to go about their business”.

Chief Superintendent Catherine Roper said: “The right to protest is a fundamental right in our democratic society, but this right must be balanced against the right of people to go about their day without fear of violence, disorder or disruption.

“Experience has shown us that when groups with conflicting views come together it can create tension and disorder, not just on the day itself but in the longer term.

“What we have had to carefully consider is how to balance the right to protest with the negative impact on our communities and potential violence and disorder that may have resulted from these protests going ahead as they were suggested.

“If you want to protest on Saturday, we ask that you do so peacefully, no matter what your view. We will adopt a robust arrest policy on anyone who attends and is intent on violence and disorder, or is in breach of these conditions.””

  1. New terrorist laptop bombs may evade airport security, intel sources say

    http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/31/politics/terrorist-laptop-bombs-may-evade-security/index.html

(CNN)US intelligence and law enforcement agencies believe that ISIS and other terrorist organizations have developed innovative ways to plant explosives in electronic devices that FBI testing shows can evade some commonly used airport security screening methods, CNN has learned.
Heightening the concern is US intelligence suggesting that terrorists have obtained sophisticated airport security equipment to test how to effectively conceal explosives in laptops and other electronic devices.
The intelligence, gathered in the last several months, played a significant role in the Trump administration’s decision to prohibit travelers flying out of 10 airports in eight countries in the Middle East and Africa from carrying laptops and other large electronic devices aboard planes

  2. Ranks of Political Prisoners Grow as Democracy Ebbs in Venezuela

For Braulio Jatar, it was the biggest scoop in years: Venezuela’s president was being chased by a crowd screaming of hunger, banging on pots and pans.

The photos and video of President Nicolás Maduro soon appeared on Mr. Jatar’s news site, Reporte Confidencial, and spread throughout the nation. The mob cornering Mr. Maduro was a shock in Venezuela — anger in food lines and even riots were a familiar sight, but no one had ever ambushed the president that way.

Before he went to bed, Mr. Jatar fired off a series of Twitter messages, some alluding to witness testimony he would soon broadcast on his 9 a.m. radio show. But he never got the chance. He now sits locked in a jail cell, a political prisoner, rights activists say.

Venezuela this week took its biggest plunge yet toward the one-man rule of Mr. Maduro as his loyalists on the Supreme Court gutted the country’s opposition-controlled legislature, seizing the powers of the only body seen as a counter to the president’s growing authority.

    • Venezuela says murders soared to 60 per day in 2016

CARACAS (Reuters) – Venezuela’s murder rate rose to an average 60 per day last year, up from about 45 per day in 2015, the attorney general’s office said on Friday, as a deep economic and political crisis exacerbated violence in the country.

Official data put the murder rate at 70.1 per 100,000 inhabitants last year, one of the highest in the world and up from 58 in 2015.

Violent crime is one of the most pervasive anxieties for Venezuelans, especially in poor slums dominated by gangs and rife with guns.

Numerous state security plans and disarmament drives in recent years have failed to curb violence given easy access to weapons, police participation in crime, and high levels of impunity in the nation of 30 million people.

A brutal economic recession that has millions skipping meals has pushed more Venezuelans towards crime, according to officials, rights groups and neighborhood organizations.

  3. Putin spokesman: US-Russia relations ‘maybe worse’ now than Cold War

The relationship between the U.S. and Russia may be more antagonistic now than it was during the decades-long Cold War, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s top spokesman said Friday.

Asked by ABC’s “Good Morning America” host George Stephanopoulos if the U.S. and Russia were in a “new Cold War,” Dmitry Peskov said the current situation may be worse, blaming the U.S. for disintegrating cooperation between the two countries.

“New Cold War? Well, maybe even worse. Maybe even worse, taking into account actions of the present presidential administration in Washington,” Peskov told Stephanopoulos.

  4. Jailed extremists face segregation to prevent radicalisation of vulnerable inmates (express, Apr 1, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/786591/Radicalisation-jailed-extremists-segregation-units-Prison-Service-HMP-Frankland

“BRITAIN’S first prison designed to prevent the radicalisation of inmates is due to open.

Specially trained officers will operate in the ‘jihadi jail’ which is being introduced in a bid to stop vulnerable prisoners from being brainwashed into carrying out future terror attacks.

Crazed Westminster killer Kahlid Masood converted to Islam while serving a sentence for knife attack before going on launch his horrifying attack which killed four people.

The Muslim prison population in England and Wales soared from 5,202 in 2002 to 12,225 last year. There were 147 terrorist inmates with 137 identifying as Muslim.

A Ministry of Justice spokesman said: “We are committed to countering the spread of this poisonous ideology.”

Prison chiefs have now decided to pump £1 million a year on three segregation units which will keep the most dangerous Muslim radicals away from other inmates.

The first will be open at Frankland Prison in County Durham where staff where as many as 50 radicals will be housed.

Lee Rigby killer Michael Adebolajo was transferred to the prison after claims he was trying to radicalise inmates in Belmarsh, south east London.

Two further units are expected to be set up at HMP Woodhill near Milton Keynes, and Whitemoor prison in Cambridgeshire.

Jackie Marshall, Prison Officers’ Association representative on the units, said: “Staffing levels have been agreed and there is very good training. It will be about awareness of signs of radicalisation.”

But POA general secretary Steve Gillan said: “We are sceptical on segregating. We have vast experience of that in Northern Ireland and it didn’t work there.””

“Chancellor Angela Merkel says newcomers to Germany must learn the country’s values and customs, but that Germans can also learn from them.

More than 1 million asylum seekers have arrived in the past two years, and Germany’s been working hard on integration.

Speaking in her weekly podcast this Saturday, in a question-and-answer form with a Syrian journalist who arrived as a refugee in 2015, Merkel emphasized migrants need to respect Germany’s values of “tolerance, openness, freedom of religion and freedom of expression” and also “be a little curious about our way of life.”

On the flipside, Merkel says Germans should be open, and “seize upon it as a possibility to learn and experience more.”

“Iran’s hard-liners are hoping they can benefit from the election of U.S. President Donald Trump, arguing that their own country needs a tougher leader to stand up to an American president whose administration has put the Islamic Republic “on notice.”

They say it’s time for a “revolutionary diplomacy” to confront the U.S. after four years of a more conciliatory policy under moderate incumbent President Hassan Rouhani.

Hard-liners feel energized by the Trump administration’s repeated criticism of the landmark 2015 nuclear deal. The agreement found little support among the group, who feel Iran gave too much away in exchange for too little in the way of sanctions relief.

The U.S. president’s tough talk on Iran plays into hard-liners’ hands too, reinforcing anti-American sentiments they can use to rally their base…”

Obama Officials Made List of Russia Probe Documents to Keep Them Safe

    by Richard Greenberg

Obama administration officials were so concerned about what would happen to key classified documents related to the Russia probe once President Trump took office that they created a list of document serial numbers to give to senior members of the Senate Intelligence Committee, a former Obama official told NBC News.

The official said that after the list of documents related to the probe into Russian interference in the U.S. election was created in early January, he hand-carried it to the committee members. The numbers themselves were not classified, said the official.

“Iran rejected an allegation by U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis that it was “the primary exporter of terrorism” and said on Saturday that the main source was U.S. ally Saudi Arabia.

“Some countries led by America are determined to ignore the main source of Takfiri-Wahhabi terrorism and extremism,” foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi was quoted by Iran’s state news agency IRNA as saying.

He was referring to hardline Sunni Muslim groups and Saudi Arabia’s official Wahhabi school of Islam.

Saudi Arabia denies backing terrorism and has cracked down on jihadists at home, jailing thousands, stopping hundreds from travelling to fight abroad and cutting militant finances.

Shi’ite Muslim power Iran and Saudi Arabia, bastion of Sunni Islam and a close U.S. ally, are longstanding religious and political arch rivals and often accused each other of backing terrorism. 10. Bombshell: Obama admin spied on Trump before he won nomination
By Jeff Dunetz April 1, 2017

On Friday, Fox News Channel’s Adam Housley delivered a bombshell report that provided new evidence in support of Donald Trump’s March 4 tweet about being spied upon by the Obama administration. The Democratic Party attempt to delegitimize the Trump presidency by linking him to Russia may turn out to expose illegality by Team Obama instead.

The report underscores three key assertions:

    1. The intelligence office responsible for the unmasking was “very high up.”

    2. The unmasking of private citizens was not an accident but was politically motivated and had nothing to do with Russia.

    3. Rep. Devin Nunes ?
    39%
had knowledge of the documents since January, but intelligence stone-walled his attempt to get the information from them.

Here is the video of Housley’s report followed by transcript that enlarges on the three bullet points:

(Richard: Pay close attention to this article and the continuing releases of information. This is an abuse of power that is orders of magnitude worse then Watergate, Watergate was private citizens on one campaign spying on another campaign. This is a setting President using the US intelligence and police personal and assets to spy on the possible candidate(s) of the opposing party. It is impossible to overstate the level of corruption this shows. Also the levels that the Democrats actions to hide the corruption and protect their political agents in the US Government show how wide the corruption has spread in the Democrats. This criminal action ordered by high ranking Democrats (possibly maybe even probably Obama) is a major blow to the rule of law and the Dems actions to protect the criminals is another major blow to the rule of law.)

  12. UK to Scrap EU Rules That Hamper Deportation of Terror Suspects After Brexit (breitbart, Apr 1, 2017)
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/03/31/uk-scrap-eu-rules-hamper-deportation-terror-suspects-brexit/

“European Union rules that make it harder to deport foreign criminals and terror suspects will be some of the first to be repealed after Brexit, the government has promised.

Addressing the House of Commons on Thursday, Brexit Secretary David Davis told cheering Tory MPs the controversial European Charter of Fundamental Rights would be scrapped on the day Britain leaves the EU.

The measure will be part of the so-called Great Repeal Bill, which will transfer the majority of EU laws to the British statute book to ensure a “smooth and orderly” Brexit. The UK parliament will then be free to amend and repeal them as it sees fit.

“A strong, independent country needs control of its own laws. That process starts now,” Mr. Davis said.

Tony Blair took Britain into the Charter, which includes 50 “human rights”, in the year 2000.

Critics have blamed these rights for making it harder to remove terror suspects and foreign criminals from Britain.

Former justice minister and Leave campaigner Dominic Raab said: “Removing the Charter stops yet more skewed human rights obligations from being imposed on the UK via the European Court of Justice, which has weakened our ability both to stop dangerous criminals entering the UK, and remove them once they offend here.”

Mr. Davis said the bill “enables the return to this Parliament of the sovereignty we ceded in 1972 and ends the supremacy of EU law in this country,” thus ensuring “power sits closer to the people of the United Kingdom than ever before”.

Human rights legislation has been blamed for the failure to deport numerous criminals.

Just last year, a group of terror suspects were allowed to stay in Britain following a challenge to their proposed deportation under the Human Rights Act.

The men in question had been deemed a threat to national security due to alleged links to Al Qaeda. One was linked to a terror plot in the UK, while another is accused of having had “direct links” to Osama bin Laden.”

  13. Actually, we still don’t know who Nunes’s ‘source’ is
    By J.E. Dyer April 1, 2017

It’s another Friday, and things in Washington look a little bleak to a lot of folks. People who see with inside-the-Beltway eyes seem to fall into two basic categories: those who are trying to take down the Trump administration, and those who don’t understand why the counter-fight against that effort can’t be a more seemly, conventional, genteel one.

But from outside the Beltway, it’s been staggeringly obvious for months that the Marquis of Queensberry left the building a long time ago. The reason the Trump administration is always running around as if it’s dodging sniper fire is that it’s dodging sniper fire.

The Trump administration isn’t just being denied the advantages the Obama administration had: friendly media, an enthusiastic federal bureaucracy. It’s being actively targeted by a systematic campaign of intelligence leaks – leaks of intelligence, and leaks from intelligence and other national security officials. Combine that with major media outlets willing to simply pass along whatever is “leaked” to them – no matter how ridiculous – and you get an informational environment whose toxicity seems to grow by the hour.

So we arrive at this Friday, the last day of March 2017. And the big story of the day is a New York Times article purporting to out Devin Nunes’s sources in the White House, for his explosive brief last week about evidence that surveillance data on Trump had been retrieved during the Obama administration.

Still, all of that is merely the survey of what’s wrong. Somehow, the truth that America needs, to ultimately right herself, keeps coming out one way or another. It probably will again, even when things look as dark as they do on this Friday night. In fact, the worse things look, the bigger the next truth is likely to be. Don’t lose heart.

  14. CBC – Video offering $1K reward for recordings of Muslim students praying ignites fears

Police in Peel Region investigating; not ruling out possibility of criminal element

Staff with the Peel District School Board in southern Ontario are being cautioned to be “extra vigilant” about a video making the rounds online offering a $1,000 reward for recordings of Muslim students in any school in the region “spewing hate speech during Friday prayers.”

The nearly 3½-minute video was posted to YouTube on March 29 by Kevin J. Johnston of the online publication Freedom Report, which bills itself as “Canada’s best and most honest news outlet.” Johnston previously faced off against Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie in an attempt to stop the development of the Meadowvale Islamic Centre.

To receive the cash, Johnston explains, the video must identify the student by face and name and be submitted within 24 hours of being filmed. The video must contain hate speech, which he says will be found through a team of translators, and the rights for the video must be turned over to Johnston. If the submission fits the criteria, he promises to let the recipient wear a mask while receiving his or her reward.

Johnston told CBC News his motivation for video submissions is due to his personal belief that public schools are “supposed to be secular — we want our schools to focus on education only.”

    Prayers in school not new

In response to the video, the Peel District School Board, which serves Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon, issued a memo to its administrators, reminding them that personal [recording] devices can only be used in schools for educational purposes, as directed by staff.

“It is important that you make staff who supervise Friday prayer at your school aware of this challenge and ask them to be extra vigilant in their supervision and that this invasion of privacy is not appropriate,” states the memo, sent to CBC Toronto by the board’s director of communications, Brian Woodland.

Muslim students have observed congregational prayers, known as jumu’ah, inside Peel schools in some form for close to 20 years. But the issue has been a flashpoint since September, when the board sought to review whether students should be allowed to write their own sermons or instead be required to use one of six pre-written sermons.

In January, students were given the green light to continue with the previously existing policy, with prayers being supervised by a staff member. The sermons are delivered in English, except for verses quoted directly from the Qur’an, and would continue to be supervised by a staff member, according to the updated policy.

Incentive to break privacy laws, board says

Johnston alleges that would allow hate speech, specifically anti-Semitic and anti-Jewish sentiment, to go unchecked by staff who understand Arabic and identify as Muslim. He added that he does not have any evidence of students who have engaged in hate speech.

Ibrahim Hindy, an imam who helped to develop the current policy, says those fears are unfounded, that non-Muslim teachers supervise prayers in many schools and that all teachers, non-Muslim and Muslim alike, are bound by a code of ethics.

“Every teacher has ethics that they need to follow as teachers,” he said. “They have to, if they hear something anti-Semitic or bigoted in the hallways of the school, in the playground of the school, even if it’s in a Friday prayer, they have to step forward, they have to discipline that child.”

In an email, board spokesperson Woodland said the offer in the video tries to provide an incentive for students to breach privacy laws.

That’s a concern Hindy said several students have raised with him.

“This is driving a ton of anxiety and causing a lot of the students to feel really threatened in their school in the place that’s supposed to be really safe for them, a place where they can learn, a place where they can be open … and instead of that it’s kind of putting a target on them.
    Police are investigating

“If they take the videos of students and they try to ascribe something to them, throw it out on the internet, what’s going to happen? Are these students going to be attacked like what happened in Quebec City? Are schools going to be under attack? It’s incredibly irresponsible. It’s unconscionable.”

In the video, Johnston urges people to conceal cameras to get footage to him. “Whatever it takes, get that to me,” he says.

“I am offering $1,000 of my own money, cash reward, for any of you out there that can sneak a camera into one of these mosque-eterias or mosque-stages or mosque-gymnasiums and get me the footage.”

Peel police confirm that they are investigating — and while it’s too soon to tell if the video has any criminal element, they aren’t ruling out the possibility.

“We are treating these incidents very seriously and have allocated the appropriate resources as required,” police said in a statement.

For the board’s part, Woodland said it will not provide further comment on Johnston, saying doing so “simply provides him with attention for his campaign.

“In fact if you do a story, it will achieve that goal of his,” he added.

Hindy says to some extent he shares that feeling.

Sabreena Ghaffar-Siddiqui speaks with Wendy Mesley about Islamophobia in Canada3:05

“But I think that these groups are gaining momentum, so there’s definitely a responsibility that we have to confront them openly so that people can see the depravity and how low they’re willing to go in spreading their hatred that they don’t even care about targeting students.”

Sabreena Ghaffar-Siddiqui, a researcher on immigration and racism at Hamilton’s McMaster University and spokesperson for the Canadian Council of Muslim Women, agrees a frank conversation is necessary.

“In a way I do feel like it’s important that this person’s views were expressed in a way where he wasn’t hiding behind a keyboard. We have a lot of political correctness in Canada and that’s why we kind of have this illusion of Canada being this elite and tolerant and perfect place.”

“If you look at the most recent M-103 fiasco that we had, so many people thought that Islamophobia didn’t need to be included because it’s not a thing. Well this is a perfect example of it being a thing.

“I personally believe that it’s very important to bring these stories to light, so that more people can understand that we do have a problem. Because until we know that a problem exists, we can’t challenge these views, we can’t confront them, we can’t address them. They just get swept under the rug, unfortunately.”

  15. GERMANY – ‘Refugee’ Accused Of Murdering German Teen To Be Tried As A Juvenile, Experts Say He’s 22

An Afghan migrant charged with the rape and murder of a 19-year-old medical student will be tried as a juvenile in Germany, even though he lied about his age and experts believe he’s at least 22-years-old.

    From RT:

German prosecutors have charged an Afghan migrant with the murder and rape of a 19-year-old medical student in Freiburg. The suspect already served a prison term for a similar offense in Greece but was released early.

Officials in the southwestern German city of Freiburg, home of one of Germany’s elite universities where the incident had taken place, announced the charges on Thursday.

The prosecution team accused the suspect known as Hussein K. of having “attacked, strangled and raped” Maria Ladenburger, a 19-year-old medical student who disappeared while on her way home from a party on October 16, 2016.

The prosecutors claim he then dumped her in the nearby Dreisam River. Her body was found on the river bank the next morning by locals.

The prosecution’s charge described Hussein K. as having killed Maria “insidiously and for sexual satisfaction,” DPA news agency reported. Hussein K. was linked to the crime through DNA evidence — authorities used a strand of hair found in the bushes near the girl’s body to identify and arrest him.

Hussein K. had arrived in Germany from Afghanistan as an unaccompanied asylum-seeker in 2015, with no identity papers, and had been living with a Germany foster family since. At the time of his arrest, he told police he was 17 years old. However, two studies by medical age experts suggest the suspect was at least 22 at the time of the crime.

Due to the uncertainty under German law, Hussein K. will be tried as a juvenile instead of adult law. His case will be heard by the juvenile chamber of the Freiburg district court. If convicted of murder, he could be handed a 10 year jail term, DPA reports.

The case sparked public outcry after journalist and author Oliver Janich said he discovered that the murder victim was Maria Ladenburger, daughter of Clemens Ladenburger, who has been an assistant to the Director-General of the European Commission’s Legal Service since 2008. It also emerged that Maria had worked as a volunteer in one of the local refugee shelters in her spare time, helping people like Hussein.

The outrage grew louder when it was revealed that Hussein K. had previously been detained on charges of murdering a woman in Greece. According to police, he raped a Greek student and threw her off a cliff on the isle of Corfu in May 2013. He had been sentenced to ten years in prison but was released prematurely only two-and-a-half years into his sentence in October 2015, following a Greek law to ease prison overcrowding.

The German government is completely insane.

They’re pretty much rewarding this man for raping and murdering one of their own children.

As I said before, life in a German prison can be considered preferable to life in Afghanistan as a free man.

  16. Europe: Combating Fake News

    by Fjordman
    April 1, 2017 at 5:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/10037/no-go-zones-europe

In January 2015 The New York Times denied that there are “no-go-zones” — areas that are not under the control of the state and are ruled according to sharia law — dominated by certain immigrant groups in some urban areas in Western Europe. The American newspaper mentioned this author, alongside writers such as Steven Emerson and Daniel Pipes, for spreading this alleged falsehood. The article was published shortly after Islamic terrorists had massacred the staff of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris on January 7, 2015. Other established media outlets such as the magazine The Atlantic also dismissed claims of no-go-zones.

Fox News issued an unusual on-air apology for allowing its anchors and guests to repeat the suggestion that there are Muslim “no-go zones” in European countries such as Britain and France.

Regarding the subject of “no-go-zones,” this is largely a question of semantics. If you say that there are some areas where even the police are afraid to go, where the country’s normal, secular laws barely apply, then it is indisputable that such areas now exist in several Western European countries. France is one of the hardest hit: it has a large population of Arab and African immigrants, including millions of Muslims.

I have been writing about the problems in Sweden and the rest of Europe for many years. The problems are unfortunately all too real. Here are a few facts:

Sweden surpassed ten million inhabitants in early 2017. The recent population growth is almost entirely due to mass immigration. If present demographic trends continue, in a few decades native Swedes could easily become a minority in their own country. The economist Tino Sanandaji suggests that this transformation could happen within the coming generation.

  17. BREAKING: Huge explosion at Paris carnival leaves at least 30 injured (express, Apr 1, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/786749/Paris-explosion-Villepinte-carnival-France-emergency

“A MASSIVE blast at a Paris carnival has left 30 people injured and several fighting for their lives.

The explosion took place in Villepinte at around 5.30 pm and photos show flames and plumes of smoke climbing into the sky.

Emergency services are at the scene and have cordoned off the surrounding area.

The cause of the explosion is not yet known but witnesses have reorted hearing loud bangs just before the carnage unfolded.

    More to follow…”

      • I need more info to be sure but it looked like someone put some type of explosive device in the structure, either that or someone was very stupid when they build the structure and left a can go gasoline or some other volatile substance open in the structure.

  18. For April 1st.

Trudeau government sends out a committee to visit schools and prisons. In the schools are after listening to requests they deny everything. Not enough money. In the prisons they hand out all kind of good stuff: large screen televisions for the inmates, jacuzzis, ipads, game systems.
After a while the junior member of the committee approaches the senior leader…
    – “Sir! I do not understand this. We refuse the schools and give everything to prisons… This is just not right!” – asks the young committee member
    – Son! What do you think, where they going to take us, once we finished governing?! – answers the senior member.

  20. SPUTNIK – GERMANY – Undercover Reporter Finds Subversive Sermons in ‘Normal’ Mosques Across Germany

Experts agree that the majority of German mosques are home to imams who urge followers to reject German values, Sputnik Deutschland reported.

A new account of life inside mosques has caused alarm in Germany, revealing that ordinary places of worship are home to imams who preach the rejection of German society and its values.

The book is called “Inside Islam – What is being preached in Germany’s mosques,” and warns that most mosques are fostering parallel societies within Germany.

Dr. Abdel-Hakim Ourghi, a researcher of Islam based in Freiburg, isn’t surprised by the results of the investigation.

He told Sputnik Deutschland that imams across Germany are preaching a conservative version of Islam which represents a “stage of preliminary radicalization in many mosques.”

The young generation of worshippers at German mosques is “the generation of halal and haram,” the “generation of the permissible, the forbidden or objectionable,” Ourghi said.

“Everything that does not relate to Islam is [considered] rather objectionable. In many cases the values of Western culture are also rejected. Only ones which also apply to Islam are accepted.”

Ourghi said that he has witnessed a sermon in a mosque belonging to the Turkish-Islamic Union for Religious Affairs (DITIB) which preached hate.

“At the end of last year, I heard sermons (in DITIB) which whipped up hatred against Jews, Christians and Christmas,” Ourghi said.

“We have to talk openly about this. There is a danger in some or most of the mosques here in Germany, which has to be discussed. It is important to talk openly about taboo topics. This is not about developing or operating a program of hate against Islam but simply talking about facts. If we have a problem, you can simply debate it. This has nothing to do with Islamophobia, it is about the Enlightenment.”

Ourghi recommended several measures to stop more radicalization in German mosques, including forcing them to hold sermons in German and educating imams at German universities.

“You simply have to use the German language as a connecting bridge of communication for religious views,” Ourghi said.

The researcher said that freedom of religion and opinion must be protected, but not at the cost of tolerating extremism.

“But this tolerance towards Islam, Islamists or these highly conservative imams also entails risks for everybody in Germany. Tolerance also means protecting the people living here from Islamic preachers and their power,” Ourghi said.

On Tuesday, German TV journalist and expert on Islam Constantin Schreiber presented his book, which details his experience visiting Arabic- and Turkish-speaking mosques in six cities across Germany over an eight-month period.

He deliberately selected so-called “normal mosques,” not the “Salafist meeting places” that are monitored by German intelligence services.

“With my book, I wanted to make it clear that people should know what is being preached behind the doors of places of worship,” Schreiber said.

There were no imams calling for violence against unbelievers in these ordinary mosques. However, they preach the rejection of the values of ordinary Germans and see German society as a source of danger and temptation for Muslims. That freedom of religion is afforded to Muslims appears to be the only positive thing they have to say about Germany.

An Arab imam in the Berlin municipality of Wedding talked of an “environment that is strongly affecting us. It is like a huge current that breaks you down, obliterates you, takes away your values and replaces them with its values.”

Worshippers were told they can only “remain” if they remember “the advantages of God’s obedience.”

In Germany’s oldest mosque in Wilmdersdorf, Berlin, the journalist picks up a brochure which tells worshippers that “God alone is the source of laws,” and “community is not based on a declaration of human rights.”

It tells readers that the Koran rejects parliamentary democracy, all representations are fraudulent and the concept of the nation is a “Western disease.”

Schreiber’s book has led to some concern about the impact of many mosques on German society.

Speaking at the book launch, German CDU politician Jens Spahn called for the creation of a register for mosques “so that we know what’s what,” the Rheinische Post reported.

He added that the lack of a central authority to co-ordinate the Islamic centers’ activity is problematic. The Central Council of Muslims in Germany represents only a small minority of Muslims and the largest union, the Turkish-Islamic Union for Religious Affairs (DITIB) also faces questions over its relationship with Turkey.

“All associations together represent not even a quarter of the Muslims in Germany,” Spahn said.
