    • Whose half-baked idea was it to call the real October 1956 Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight as “Counter-revolution,” the same disparaging pejorative term that was imposed by the quisling Soviet puppet Kadar regime and was mandatory in schools and in public until February 1989, when populist wing of the party led by Imre Pozsgay declared it to be a National Uprising and NOT a counterrevolution. With that the Hungarian political thaw was under way and and the pejorative designation was no longer obligatory to use. So what in the hell is it doing here?

  1. “The Hungarian Revolution of 1956 or the Hungarian Uprising of 1956[5] (Hungarian: 1956-os forradalom or 1956-os felkelés) was a nationwide revolt against the government of the Hungarian People’s Republic and its Soviet-imposed policies, lasting from 23 October until 10 November 1956. ”

“The revolt spread quickly across Hungary and the government collapsed. Thousands organised into militias, battling the ÁVH and Soviet troops. Pro-Soviet communists and ÁVH members were often executed or imprisoned and former political prisoners were released and armed. Radical impromptu workers’ councils wrested municipal control from the ruling Hungarian Working People’s Party and demanded political changes. A new government formally disbanded the ÁVH, declared its intention to withdraw from the Warsaw Pact, and pledged to re-establish free elections. By the end of October, fighting had almost stopped and a sense of normality began to return.

After announcing a willingness to negotiate a withdrawal of Soviet forces, the Politburo changed its mind and moved to crush the revolution. On 4 November, a large Soviet force invaded Budapest and other regions of the country. The Hungarian resistance continued until 10 November. Over 2,500 Hungarians and 700 Soviet troops were killed in the conflict, and 200,000 Hungarians fled as refugees. Mass arrests and denunciations continued for months thereafter. By January 1957, the new Soviet-installed government had suppressed all public opposition. ”

The Socialists won. Like having a Bexit Election. Why is it celebrated?

    • They aren’t celebrating. They are remembering the heroes of the counter revolution who did expel the Soviets. Hungary was promised American help and were urged to fight on and succeeded. However, once the Russians realized that the Americans had double crossed the Hungarians and had no intention of helping, they returned with over 1000 tanks. Again, not celebration, but remembrance. And reminding themselves of the price of Freedom, given the contents of the speech.

      • I remember the adults talking about what was happening and saying we should send in troops and supplies. We didn’t to our eternal shame.

        • Richard, the USA is the greatest country history has known. Mistakes are made. She is down now but I believe will somehow re-emerge great again. You have great spirit.

          And no sweat PC.

          • I know, I have a headache and that always makes be pessimistic.

To help brighten up peoples day a friend went to a wedding near the Arkansas border and then drove up to Hannible Mo. (check the distance on a map) over the weekend. He said in all of his driving he saw 3 Hillary signs and well over 10,000 Trump signs. Those figures translate into a Trump win in Missouri no matter how much crooked voting is pulled in St. Louis and KC. From what I read on the net it is the same in all of the other states the libs consider fly over count5ry.

For those who don’t know, fly over country is the portions of the nation the left doesn’t want to travel through becaue they might meet real people instead of more puppets.

    • I remember reading a story in SOF magazine about the Hungarian upraising where the Russians were shooting the captured rebels and it was observed a hand grenade being tossed backward from one of the rebels about to be executed. Defiance even under certain Death; hats off to such courage!

  2. What a profound speech. echoing. “The secret of freedom is bravery”.

Thanks for the most incredible internet magazine experience I’ve had
    in years, Mr Vlad.
