Iran Dispatches Naval Flotilla to Gulf of Aden

First of all, I should explain that while a more sophisticated WP user than I, could set up some kind of automatic posting of the Reader’s links contribution post that is supposed to come every day at a minute after midnight give or take a few minutes, I don’t know how to do that. So I create as many as I can at a give moment before the repetition of it gets to me, and set each one to auto-publish at about the right time.

Usually I do about 2 weeks worth at a time, and then I forget about it. This is why about twice a month, the daily links post is late!

My apologies to all.

Meanwhile, Iran has moved destroyers in between US positions in the Gulf and Houthi (Iranian proxy army) captured positions in Yemen as a response to the US taking out targeting radars on the Yemeni coast, itself a response to the firing of at least FOUR missiles at US ships in international waters.

?????? ??????? ????? ?????? ????

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Navy has deployed a flotilla of warships to international waters for a mission that includes presence in the waters off the southern coasts of Yemen.

Iran’s 44th flotilla, comprising Alvand destroyer and Bushehr logistic warship, has been dispatched to the Gulf of Aden and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait to protect the country’s trade vessels against piracy in the unsafe zone.

The Iranian fleet will head for the waters near Somalia and Tanzania afterwards through the Indian Ocean.

After making a port call in Tanzania, the 44th fleet will sail along the eastern coasts of Africa if the weather holds out, and is scheduled to sail even for the western coasts of South Africa, in the South Atlantic Ocean.

  1. RT -Iranian warships deployed off Yemen coast after US bombs Houthi targets

Iran has deployed a fleet of warships to the Gulf of Aden, the republic’s naval commander has confirmed. The deployment follows US cruise missile strikes on Yemeni positions thought to be under Houthi rebel control.

The Iranian Navy has sent the warships to international waters for a mission that includes entering the area off the southern coast of Yemen, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari confirmed on Wednesday. The area is among the world’s busiest maritime trade routes.

“The fleet will provide security to sea ways for Iranian vessels and protect Iran’s interests on the high seas,” Sayyari told Press TV.

“The 34th Fleet is comprised of the Bushehr logistic vessel and Alborz destroyer, and will conduct a three-month mission.”

The commander said the fleet had departed from the southern port city of Bandar Abbas in Iran. He dismissed claims the fleet has been deployed to intervene in the conflict in Yemen.

Saudi Arabia, which has fought a long war with Yemen’s Houthi rebels, accuses Iran of supporting the group – a charge denied by Tehran.

The US military carried out “limited self-defense strikes” in Yemen on Thursday, in retaliation for recent attacks on an American naval destroyer, USS Mason, which has been operating north of the Bab Al-Mandab Strait.

According to the Pentagon’s initial assessments, three “radar sites” in the Houthi rebel-controlled area of Yemen were destroyed in the attack.

The attack on coastal targets was carried out by Tomahawk cruise missiles launched from the destroyer USS Nitze, NPR reported.

The Houthis have denied carrying out the attack, however. A military source reportedly told Saba news agency – a media outlet run by the group – that the assault did not come from areas under its control.

“These allegations are unfounded and the army as well popular forces have nothing to do with this action,” the source said.

“The US allegations just came in the context of creating false justifications to pave the way for Saudi-led coalition to escalate their… attacks against Yemen and to cover for crimes continually committed by the aggression coalition against the Yemeni people and to continue an all-out blockade,” the spokesman added.

He said the army is ready to confront any future aggression against the country, whatever the justification.

    • reuters -Iran deploys warships off Yemen coast in the Gulf of Aden: Tasnim

Iran sent two warships to the Gulf of Aden on Thursday, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported, establishing a military presence in waters off Yemen where the U.S. military launched cruise missile strikes on areas controlled by Iran-backed Houthi forces.

“Iran’s Alvand and Bushehr warships have been dispatched to the Gulf of Aden to protect trade vessels from piracy,” Tasnim reported.

The U.S. military strikes were in response to failed missile attacks this week on a U.S. Navy destroyer, U.S. officials said.

Iran’s key regional rival Saudi Arabia accuses Tehran of providing support to the Houthis, a charge the Islamic Republic denies.

Tasnim said the Iranian ships will patrol the Gulf of Aden, south of Yemen, which is one of the world’s most important shipping routes.

    • When you consider the billions of dollars of weapons and the tens of millions of dollars of training that the US has given to KSA it is a marvel that they have not been able to flatten the Houthis in Yemen.
      Google “Why Arabs Lose Wars:”
It is an old document but still worth considering.
I was actually surprised that the Obama admin struck the 3 radars…

      • You aren’t the only one.

They only reason I can think of is he thinks that if we get into a shooting war with Iran the Russians will come in on Iran’s side.

  2. The Iran Saudi conflict is one of the major flash points in the world right now, Iran is pushing and I don’t think Obama is going to push back. But at some point there is going to be an Iranian ship firing at an American ship whose Captian will fire back, then the big questions will be answered:

    1) Does Iran already have nukes?

    2) are they mated to missiles?

    3) Are they ready to use nukes?

    4) The real big one, will Russia back Iran if/when the shooting starts between the US and Iran?
