  1. Polygamy cannot be regarded as essential part of Islam, says Indian government (independent,
    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/islam-india-polyamory-multiple-wives-are-not-essential-government-says-a7353491.html

“The Indian government has petitioned the country’s Supreme Court for a ban on polygamy, the practice of of having more than one wife.

It has also called the practice of triple talaq “misplaced in a secular country”. It allows Muslim men to divorce their wives by repeating the word “talaq,” meaning “I divorce you,” three times.

Currently, India’s constitution allows Muslims – the biggest minority religion in the country – to regulate their own laws governing matters such as marriage, divorce and inheritance.

However the government of Narendra Modi has filed an affidavit to the court arguing that polygamy and triple talaq impacts a woman’s status and her right to live with confidence and dignity, The Indian Express reports.

“It is submitted that the issue of validity of triple talaq, ‘nikah halala’ and polygamy needs to be considered in the light of principles of gender justice and the overriding principle of non-discrimination, dignity and equality,” the affidavit filed by the government says.

“The fundamental question for determination by this court is whether, in a secular democracy, religion can be a reason to deny equal status and dignity available to women under the Constitution of India.”

It also said the practices are not protected under Article 25 of the constitution, which guarantees immunity to practices essential or integral religion.

“Even theocratic states have undergone reform in this area of law and, therefore, in a secular republic like India, there is no reason to deny the rights available under the Constitution,” the affidavit adds.

“The fact that Muslim countries where Islam is the State Religion have undergone extensive reforms goes to establish that the practices in question cannot be regarded as integral to practices of Islam.”

The practice of talaq has been banned in more than 20 countries, including Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Earlier this year, Muslim women in India petitioned the Supreme Court to ban triple talaq, arguing it is unconstitutional, discriminatory and contrary to Islamic law.

Case studies carried out across India by Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Aandolan, an organisation fighting for the rights of Muslim women in the country, found some men had exercised the practice via relatives, over the phone or even by email or text message.”

  2. Sturgeon’s minister says UK will be unbearable for Muslims after MP likens Tories to Nazis (express, Oct 10, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/719233/Nicola-Sturgeon-Humza-Yousaf-Muslims-Pakistan-Twitter-Mhairi-Black-Tory-Nazi-comparison

“ONE of Nicola Sturgeon’s ministers has sparked anger online after stepping into a Nazi debate sparked by an MP.

Scottish Government Minister for Transport and the Islands Humza Yousaf attempted to defend MP Mhairi Black after she compared the Tory party to the Nazis.

However Mr Yousaf’s comments claiming life will become “unbearable for Muslims” following the fellow SNP MP’s remarks has sparked a storm of protest online.

Ms Black, 22, claimed Conservative party policies were comparative to Nazi Germany, in a column for which she is paid £150 per week on top of her £75,000-a-year salary.

She was criticised earlier this year after statistics revealed she failed to respond to nearly 75 per cent of e-mails sent via a constituents’ website.

In a column for The National, Ms Black said: “The Conservative Party’s conference has unleashed ugly and downright scary rhetoric that I was brought up to believe was to be left in the past.

“I am not exaggerating when I say that the policies being brought forward are reminiscent of early 1930s Nazi Germany.”

In a Twitter post which linked to the article Mr Yousaf defended Ms Black.

He said: “Those criticising, I have friends/family who have applied for dual nationality with Pakistan.

“Feel UK be unbearable for Muslims in future.”

The comments sparked anger on Twitter with users highlighting that London Mayor Sadiq Khan was Muslim and hitting back at “scaremongering”.

One said: “Please stop divisive fear-mongering Humza.

“UK bends over backwards to be accommodating to folk of all religions, rightly so.”

While another said: “Oh what a load of self righteous mince. UK has one of highest muslim populations in Europe. No evidence of any leaving!”

Another added: “Yes Pakistan is a bastion of democratic and religious tolerance compared to UK.”….”

“ISIS and Al-Nusra snipers deliberately shoot at civilians trying to escape Islamist-held eastern Aleppo, letting no one out, local residents told RT’s Murad Gazdiev. An RT crew has been to the frontline inside the embattled city and brought back the grim picture of what it takes to live there.

Aleppo, once the second-largest city in Syria with a booming economy, is now the worst-hit place in the war-torn country. It is split between government forces and terrorist groups, including Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) and Al-Nusra Front, an Al-Qaeda affiliate.

  5. Hillary: “It’s a good thing Trump isn’t in charge of the law in this country.”
Donald: “Yeah, because you’d be in jail.”

This was a wry put-down of a criminal deserving jail time.

    But some are complaining.

“Donald Trump’s threat to put Hillary Clinton “in jail” and appoint a special prosecutor to investigate her private email server if he becomes president was one of the harshest lines in presidential debate history”

    • If Hillary and most of Obama’s administration aren’t investigated and prosecuted the rule of law is officially dead in the US. By not prosecuting they will be saying that liberal Democrats that are in high office are above the law. That means that the next Democrat that is elected President will be President for life.

The debate night that will be discussed for generations in Political Science classes – and Women’s Studies seminars – ended with Republican Donald Trump landing more punches than Democrat Hillary Clinton, and successfully deflecting attention successfully away from a two-day-old crisis about graphic sexual language that threatened to derail his White House bid.

In the first debate at Hofstra University 13 days earlier, Clinton sat back and let Trump hang himself. But on Sunday her quiet patience gave him room to roam and dominate.

Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor who has been among Trump’s most forceful defenders, summed up the real estate tycoon’s performance with two words in the post-debate spin room: ‘home run.’

‘I think the momentum is going to switch, like that,’ Giuliani told DailyMail.com, snapping his fingers. ‘It was one of the biggest victories in a presidential debate, ever.’

Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta called Trump ‘desperate’ and called him ‘incoherent’ in policy discussions.

  7. Sharp jabs made for most explosive debate in decades

This isn’t politics. This is war — and it’s personal.

The second presidential debate was ferocious and nasty, a scorched-earth barrage that reflected the nation’s bitter political divisions and the animus between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. There’s never been anything like it in modern politics.

Especially during the explosive first 25 minutes, the air was thick with rancor and even potential danger. Trump and Clinton don’t just dislike each other — they actually seem to hate each other.

His promise to prosecute her over the email scandal and private server perfectly captured his go-for-broke attitude.

Even before the debate, Trump answered the question of whether he would be contrite. By holding a late-afternoon public meeting with three women who accused Bill Clinton of sexual assault and a rape victim whose accused rapist was represented by Hillary Clinton, Trump did more than merely go on offense to get away from the uproar over his vulgar 2005 comments about women.

  8. The little people have had enough – not just here, but in America too

    Nigel Farage

There are fewer than 30 days to go before the US presidential election. It is a campaign which mirrors many of the arguments and conflicts that we have seen recently in British politics, especially during the recent referendum campaign. Essentially, this election is about continuity versus change, with huge doses of personal vitriol thrown in.

When I arrived at the Republican Party convention in Cleveland, Ohio, back in July, I was amazed at the reaction to me over the Brexit result. Normally we follow trends in America, not the other way round, but it was clear that many of the delegates saw Brexit as an aspiration for what they see as the Trump “revolution” against the Establishment. I met many others who were not delegates or political anoraks, who were also keen to talk about Brexit. A group of retired US Navy veterans told me we should have done it years ago. Others were less impressed and shouted at me in the streets. Indeed, this weekend while I was in St Louis, I received some proper abuse on the Washington University campus.

    • This one is a warning to the left that most of them are too stupid to understand, the lefts resorting to illegal voting to steal election has pissed off large numbers of people. These people are trying to use the ballot box to correct the problems the left has caused, if the left refuses to leave power the people will resort to violence because that is the only way to restore their rights. The left needs to understand this, they are refusing to do this and will probably continue to do this but they should understand that the little people are mad. History shows that this is when bloody civil wars are fought and the little people normally win the wars.

  9. Missiles fired at US warship from Houthi controlled territory in Yemen

Rebel forces in Yemen are thought have been blamed after a missile was fired on a US Navy warship.

The USS Mason, a guided missile destroyer, was shot at with rockets but was undamaged.

The vessel was on a routine patrol in international waters, according to officials.

USS Mason detected two inbound missiles over a 60-minute period while in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen. Both missiles impacted the water before reaching the ship,” Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis said.

  10. Gorbachev warns of ‘dangerous point’ as US-Russia ties sour

Moscow (AFP) – Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev warned on Monday that the world has reached a “dangerous point” as tensions between Russia and the United States spike over the Syria conflict.

Relations between Moscow and Washington — already at their lowest since the Cold War over the Ukraine conflict — have soured further in recent days as the United States pulled the plug on Syria talks and accused Russia of hacking attacks.

The Kremlin has suspended a series of nuclear pacts, including a symbolic cooperation deal to cut stocks of weapons-grade plutonium.

“I think the world has reached a dangerous point,” Gorbachev, 85, told state news agency RIA Novosti.

  11. Russia says U.S. actions threaten its national security

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday he had detected increasing U.S. hostility towards Moscow and complained about what he said was a series of aggressive U.S. steps that threatened Russia’s national security.

In an interview with Russian state TV likely to worsen already poor relations with Washington, Lavrov made it clear he blamed the Obama administration for what he described as a sharp deterioration in U.S.-Russia ties.

“We have witnessed a fundamental change of circumstances when it comes to the aggressive Russophobia that now lies at the heart of U.S. policy towards Russia,” Lavrov told Russian state TV’s First Channel.

“It’s not just a rhetorical Russophobia, but aggressive steps that really hurt our national interests and pose a threat to our security.”

With relations between Moscow and Washington strained over issues from Syria to Ukraine, Lavrov reeled off a long list of Russian grievances against the United States which he said helped contribute to an atmosphere of mistrust that was in some ways more dangerous and unpredictable than the Cold War.

He complained that NATO had been steadily moving military infrastructure closer to Russia’s borders and lashed out at Western sanctions imposed over Moscow’s role in the Ukraine crisis.

  12. Protests on Swedish island, attack on refugee center after rape of wheelchair-bound woman (RT, Oct 10, 2016)
    https://www.rt.com/news/362234-sweden-rape-wheelchair-protests/?

“Several protests have been held on the Swedish island of Gotland and a refugee center there has been attacked with stones since police released several men, reportedly asylum seekers, accused of gang-raping a wheelchair-bound woman.

The incident took place in the small town of Visby on Gotland on October 2. A woman in her 30s contacted police about the rape, Swedish Aftonbladet newspaper reported, citing her lawyer Staffan Fredriksson.

The victim said that she had shared a taxi home with a man after going to a restaurant. At some point, she said she needed a toilet and the man offered the one at his place.

“She followed him in and had no fears that something would happen. Then the man took advantage of the situation. The abuse started in the toilet,” Fredriksson said, adding that several other men joined in the abuse…”

    • “… “Where they came from we don’t know. This was going on for a couple of hours,” said Fredriksson. “She got paralyzed in this situation and was not able to bring herself to resist physically, other than saying no.”

The woman was stranded in the offender’s property, as she can’t walk long distances and uses a wheelchair. She somehow managed to take a wheelchair and get away, however.

Fredriksson said that the woman’s injuries were documented by a doctor. “She is completely broken down,” he added.

Six men, all in their 20s, were arrested after the attack, and one was soon released. The remaining five remained in police custody until they were released on Wednesday. The investigation is still ongoing.

Swedish police did not release the nationality of the alleged perpetrators, or any other details about them. They even removed the post about the incident from Facebook, citing bad language and verbal attacks.

“We are restricted from specifying ethnicity, description, or other information, such as age, appearance and addresses [of the alleged offenders],” police wrote on Facebook.

However, Expressen newspaper reported that the suspects are all asylum seekers and that the rape allegedly took place at asylum accommodation.

Radio Nordfront released a video that claims to show the alleged rapists.

Users on social media have been distributing screenshots from the video with angry comments…”

  13. Why Trump helped himself in the second debate

Just a few observations about tonight’s debate.

    1. Trump was right: the debate was a three-on-one confrontation, in which Anderson Cooper and Martha Raddatz played an overtly adversarial role against him.

He more than held his own under those conditions. Regardless of whether you favor him or not, the human dynamics were these: his three opponents all got rattled tonight, but he didn’t. I guarantee you, the people watching picked up on that.

    2. Following the Tweet stream during the debate was rather interesting. It’s like there are a bunch of people out there who aren’t watching the same debate.

One stream comes from people who think Trump is killing it, and are thrilled that he’s taking the fight to Hillary and making lots of good points. (For the record, Trump does hardly anything the way I would do it. I don’t describe this stream from a position of agreeing with it. I’m just describing it.)

The other stream is from people who are mortified that he’s even on the stage, and assume everyone else sees his unconventional traits in the same light they do: as a plague of Egypt assailing the land (or perhaps something slightly less appalling like the Black Death).

It continues to amaze me that the old-consensus establishment is so blind to reality regarding Trump. The things they despise so much from him are the very things that interest the voters; i.e., he doesn’t just accept being triple-teamed without commenting on it, and he doesn’t back down from fights that, let’s say, don’t elevate the level of discourse.

    3. Let’s cut the crap on the “Trump and the women tape” (it is 2016, after all, the Year of Cutting the Crap): the reason Trump was flogged with it this evening is not because he was dragging this debate into the mud, but because Cooper and Raddatz were. It was their decision to make the 2005 comments a focal point.

Trump could have chosen to cower and try to deflect. Instead, he chose to note his previous apology forthrightly, and then go on the attack.

There are deep unspoken premises at work here, creating people’s perspectives on this. Many on the old-consensus right see it as a form of hubris to move on from your past sins and take a more tactically offensive approach, as Trump did. This view of past culpability – as a permanently disabling, inexpiable condition – is not actually a Christian view. But a lot of our old-consensus thought leaders take it as an unexamined premise.

The voters increasingly see that accepting the premise paralyzes them. It leaves them undefended against progressive-left activism, with its laundry list of pseudo-moral accusations.

Trump set an example tonight that was much more powerful than an argument put into words. It was more powerful than his statements of policy positions, some of which were memorable. He set an example of apologizing, moving on, and going on the attack against Hillary’s record and her beliefs about government – both which are fair game.

Believe me: people saw that. They saw that Trump was unafraid.

    4. I don’t think there is any hope for most of the old-consensus pols and pundits. They think we should wring our hands about Hillary and the CBS moderators being able to keep throwing Trump’s vulgar comments back at him.

That’s Donald Trump, MAN.

  14. Wikileaks shows that Hillary’s coming out against Keystone XL a totally calculated move
By LU Staff October 9, 2016

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s campaign spent months carefully crafting her position on the Keystone XL oil pipeline, including cutting all mention of the contentious project from her latest book.

Campaign staffers debated the most opportune moment for the former secretary of state to finally announce her position on Keystone XL, according to leaked emails from longtime Clinton ally and lobbyist John Podesta published by the website Wikileaks.

Clinton officially came out against the Keystone XL pipeline in September, 2015, but only after spending months refusing publicly to take a stance on the $7 billion project that would have brought 510,000 barrels per day of oil sands from Alberta, Canada to refineries on the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Now, we have a pretty good idea of why. Clinton insiders debated cutting any mention of Keystone XL from her book “Hard Choices” as early as April 2014 — about a year before she declared her candidacy for president.

“Unless you feel some need to mention it, I’m not sure what the gain is,” editor Jonathan Karp told Clinton speechwriter Dan Schwerin, according to a leaked email chain.

“You say you’re waiting for the study before making a determination, but I question whether any study is capable of defining a clear course of action, and some readers might think that relying on a study is a stalling tactic,” Karp said, adding that the only reason Clinton put it in her book was on the advice of her daughter, Chelsea.

Podesta, who was a White House adviser at the time, told Clinton staffers to “cut” any mention of Keystone from the book.

Interviewed by the Al-Arabiya network on September 23, Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb called for Muslims in the West to play a constructive role in the societies in which they live and to the show the West “that we are not victims of immigration.”
“Muslims and Islam have a role in [the terrorist attacks in Europe], because these terrorists derive their ideas and their deeds from Islam,” said Aboutaleb, adding that “we cannot sit idly by, and watch how these terrorists destroy, with a single bomb, everything that we and our parents have built in this society.”

In a video posted on October 1 on the YouTube channel of Green Lane Mosque in Birmingham, England, Abu Usamah At-Thahabi, an imam at the mosque, criticized Obama and other world leaders for attending the funeral of Shimon Peres in “occupied Palestine.” “Obama wore the Jewish hat, and he praised that war criminal,” said At-Thahabi, who added that “Obama killed a lot of Muslims.” In his lecture, which was dedicated to hiphop culture, the American-born Al-Thahabi criticized Western music, such as R&B, saying: “Music is one of the biggest weapons of Satan.”

  19. BREITBART -Afghan Police: Up to Half of U.S.-Funded Afghan Troops in Helmand ‘Do Not Exist’

Up to half of the tens of thousands of U.S.-funded Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) troops deployed to combat terrorism in southern Afghanistan’s volatile Helmand province “do not exist,” notes a U.S. watchdog agency appointed by Congress, citing the province’s police chief.

Nevertheless, all Afghan security forces are getting paid with U.S. taxpayer funds, including the nonexistent ones.

In an August 5 letter addressed to the U.S. Secretary of Defense and published on Friday, which marked the 15th year of the Afghanistan war, the U.S. Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), the watchdog, highlighted the problems of “ghost” service members within the ANDSF.

Overall, the letter suggested that of the 319,595 members of the ANDSF, which includes police and army units, nearly 200,000 do not exist.

In Helmand alone, a longtime Taliban stronghold that is considered one of the deadliest places for U.S.-led coalition forces, up to half of the 26,000 ANDSF troops assigned to the province are “ghost” service members, the provincial police chief declared earlier this year.

“There are around 10,000 police personnel in the structure of police force in Helmand plus 16,000 army soldiers along with public protection forces and border security forces. According to my information, 40 to 50 percent of the force did not exist physically when we asked for help during operations,” he explained. “Salaries of ghost soldiers had been received during the past eight months and the money has gone to personal accounts.”

Furthermore, the governor of Helmand also noted that “there are ghost soldiers within the security forces in Helmand” and that officials there have “discovered at least 400 and scrapped them from the list.”

In April 2015, SIGAR reported that Inaccurate and unreliable data on Afghan security personnel may place America’s security and billions of U.S. taxpayer funds at risk, adding that the United States has spent nearly $70 billion to recruit, train, equip, house, feed, supply, and pay the salaries” of the ANDSF, including those of “hollow” Afghan brigades that do not really exist.

The Pentagon refused to comment on whether the Obama administration is concerned about “ghost” Afghan troops receiving U.S. taxpayer funds, jeopardizing U.S. gains, and placing American military troops at risk. It would not say whether any American troops have been killed our wounded after going into battle with nonexistent backing.

The lives of U.S. and Afghan troops may be endangered when they are sent on missions with Afghan soldiers who turn out to be “ghosts.”

The Associated Press (AP) noted earlier this year, “The heaviest cost of the ghost soldier phenomenon is being exacted on the battlefield.”

President Barack Obama has withdrawn the majority of U.S. military troops from Afghanistan, driving American troops to increase their reliance on their Afghan counterparts.

For over a year, SIGAR has noted that the Obama administration is clueless about how many ANDSF troops “actually exist.”

  20. The Right to Mock

    by Douglas Murray

If there is one question that most concerns the public around the question of radical Islam it is “What is the connection between the extremists and the moderates?” Leading politicians across the Western world have not been much help in answering this question, insisting as they do, that radical Islam has nothing to do with Islam and that the extremists are as far away from the moderates as it is possible to be. Yet the public senses that this is not the case.

Despite the amazing lack of public debate about the actual contours of the discussion, the public knows that something is not right about the analysis provided by Liberal politicians and others. Indeed, the public notices not only that there is some connection between the two (something Democrats in the U.S., among others, deny) but that the connection may be closer than anyone would like. A fine example of this was thrown up in the UK this week in the space of just 24 hours.

On Friday the London Evening Standard carried a story about the police launching a possible “hate crime” investigation into literature that the paper had discovered being handed out at a London mosque. The potential “hate crime” was not even the best known variety — a mean Tweet or a nasty comment — but the sort of thing we used to call “incitement.” The literature being handed out at a mosque in Walthamstow consisted of a booklet which insisted that “any Muslim should kill” anyone who insults the Prophet of Islam. Those who insult the main man “must be killed,” it repeated.

The pamphlet backed up this point of view with reference to classical Islamic law and explained that in the case of those who “insult” Mohammed, such as apostates who “deserve to be assassinated,” it was not necessary to wait for any court or court judgement to rule. Better just to get on with it on your own, was the gist.

  21. Guess Who Is Helping Islamists to Oppress Women?

    by Thomas Quiggin

Advocating violence against women and other misogynist practices are increasingly being accepted by individuals who identify themselves as “feminists” and “female leaders.”

The process of normalizing Islamist misogyny is well underway while so-called feminists remain silent on issues such as wife beating, child marriages, female genital mutilation and “forced suicides.”

For current feminists, it appears as though political correctness and fantasizing that they are “social justice warriors” outweighs the rights of women, especially brown women.

When it comes to the issue of opposing violence against women, feminists are as silent as beaten wives. Nothing – including the advocacy of wife beating, pedophiliac sex acts with nine-year-old girls and the generalized oppression of women – can draw feminists into the debate on the role of women under the Islamist ideology that is prevalent in Canada and the USA.

Premier Katherine Wynne of Ontario (population 13.6 million) recently visited the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), along with Education Minister Mitzie Hunter. They met on August 26, 2016 with female members of the Islamic Circle North America Sisters (ICNA Canada) in Scarborough. The ICNA directly advocates misogynist positions such as wife beating, the taking of slave girls and the position that women are, overall, inferior to men. ICNA also notes that Islamic women have been “emancipated” from the obligation of earning their own livelihood. Therefore, women can be kept at home and cannot leave the house without the permission of the husband.

  22. Trump Makes the Case for Jailing Hillary
The White House or the big house.

At the lowest point in the second presidential debate Hillary Clinton tried to blame her compulsive lying on Abraham Lincoln. Not the real Lincoln, but the fictional version depicted in the Spielberg movie.

“She lied. Now she’s blaming the lie on the late great Abraham Lincoln,” Trump said in exasperation. “Honest Abe never lied.”

The only thing Hillary and Lincoln have in common is Illinois.

If Hillary had been looking for wisdom from Lincoln, she might have started with the famous quote often attributed to him. “You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.” It’s been a while since Hillary has been able to fool anybody.

The majority of the country holds an unfavorable view of her. Even in a blue state like California, 53 percent of the voters have an unfavorable view of the woman they are most likely going to end up voting for. It’s not just that Hillary is a liar and a crook. Plenty of politicians are. It’s that her dishonesty and corruption are so blatant as to be insulting to the intelligence of even the dimmest voter.

Hillary’s lies come apart within 5 minutes of being told. And yet nothing is ever her fault. Previously she had blamed her rogue email operation on Colin Powell. Now she decided to blame her lies on Lincoln.

  23. Whom Are You Going to Believe? Media Fact Checkers or Your Lying Ears.

Media fact checkers perform a vital function. They’re opinion editorials that are labeled as facts. They have as much in common with facts as 1984’s Ministry of Truth. They find ways to declare that the truth is a lie and a lie is the truth.

But Politico’s own version of Fact Check (every self-respecting lefty media outlet has to have one now) known as the Wrongometer has gone one better. It’s declared that an audio tape of Hillary Clinton laughing about getting off a 12-year-old girl’s rapist is not a fact.

Here’s Zack Stanton, “Trump is wrong: Hillary Clinton did not laugh about the rape of a 12-year-old”

“It is totally false to say that Hillary Clinton laughed about the rape of a 12-year-old. And it has been thoroughly debunked.”

Well so long as it’s been thoroughly debunked. That way no one has to worry about it and we can instead focus on how awful Trump is and why major celebrities would like us to vote for Hillary. You know, serious journalism.

And yet, oddly enough, here’s the tape of Hillary laughing.

  24. GERMANY CHEMNITZ Captured Syrian was IS-inspired, poised to strike

A Syrian refugee arrested in Germany on Monday was ready to strike imminently with attacks similar to those in Brussels and Paris, and the suspect was probably inspired by the Islamic State militant group, investigators said.

Jaber Albakr, 22, arrived in Germany in February last year during a migrant influx into the country and was granted temporary asylum in June 2015. Officials said he had not previously aroused suspicion.

The suspect’s background will prove unwelcome news for Chancellor Angela Merkel, whose conservatives have lost support to the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party over her refugee-friendly policy.

Speaking during a news conference after talks in Niger’s capital Niamey, Merkel lauded German police for the arrest and hinted her government could tighten security laws. “We have to do everything possible, also if necessary change the laws in order to ensure safety of the people in Germany,” she said.

Police had been looking for the Syrian suspect since he evaded them during a raid on Saturday on an apartment in the eastern German city of Chemnitz, where they found 1.5 kg of highly-charged explosives.

They arrested him after acting on a tip-off that other Syrians were holding him at an apartment in Leipzig, around 60 kilometres (37 miles) northwest of Chemnitz.

“According to what we know, the preparations in Chemnitz are similar to the preparations for the attacks in Paris and Brussels,” federal Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said.

Islamic State gunmen and bombers killed some 130 people in the French capital in November and the militant group claimed responsibility for suicide bomb attacks in the Belgian capital four months later that left at least 30 people dead.

Joerg Michaelis, president of the Saxony state criminal investigation office, told a news conference in Dresden that Albakr was likely to have been inspired by Islamic State. “The behaviour of the suspect speaks for an IS context,” he said.

    IN THE CROSSHAIRS

Stephan Mayer, a senior lawmaker with Merkel’s Bavarian allies, the Christian Social Union (CSU), said Germany’s security agencies needed to be consulted more intensively in the authorities’ handling of refugees.

“Germany is in the crosshairs of Islamist terror, just like France, Belgium or Britain,” Mayer told television station n-tv. “We must be very careful.”

Merkel said last month she wished she could “turn back the time by many, many years” to have better prepared for last year’s arrival of almost 1 million migrants. In power since 2005, she has yet to say whether she will seek a fourth term as chancellor in a federal election next year.

Michaelis said the explosives found in the Chemnitz flat were similar to those used in the Paris and Brussels attacks.

Markus Ulbig, interior minister in the eastern state of Saxony, told the Dresden news conference that investigations had not yet determined the target Albakr aimed to attack.

“…The work (of the investigators) has shown that we have prevented an imminent attack,” he said.

Police identified a second suspect as 33-year-old Khalil A., who was also from Syria and entered Germany in November last year. He was arrested at Chemnitz train station on Saturday and has been remanded in custody.

A spokesman for the federal interior ministry said it was too soon to say whether Albakr was part of a larger network. Two other suspects detained on Saturday were released on Sunday.

In July, the Islamic State militant group claimed responsibility for two attacks in the western German state of Bavaria – one on a train near Wuerzburg and the other at a music festival in Ansbach that wounded 20 people.

Chemnitz manhunt: Bomb plot suspect captured… by Syrian refugees, not by German police

    • Germany: Hundreds protest against Merkel and refugees in Chemnitz

Around 500 people marched through Fritz-Heckert-District in Chemnitz, Monday, to demonstrate against the German government’s refugee policies, after explosives were found in an apartment in the city, belonging to a 22 year old Syrian man, identified as Jaber al-Bakr.

The protesters marched through the district peacefully accompanied by police. The organisers claim that with the refugees, terror has arrived in Chemnitz.

  27. Are there police no-go zones in France? The police say yes (thelocal, Oct 10, 2016)
    https://www.thelocal.fr/20161010/are-there-police-no-go-zones-in-france-the-police-say-yes

“After a violent petrol bomb attack on four officers near Paris, France’s prime minister insisted there were no no-go zones in the country, but police unions themselves told The Local the reality is very different.

Valls was paying a visit to the suburb of Paris where four police officers were injured on Saturday after coming under fire from a hail of Molotov cocktails.

The incident, which left one officer in a critical condition, occurred near the notorious housing estate of La Grande Borne in Viry-Châtillon, to the south of Paris.

The attack on the officers, who were protecting a CCTV camera installed in an area where there had been a spate of robberies on motorists, was used as ammunition by opposition politicians who claimed the government had allowed lawless areas to develop.

But PM Valls, who was joined by interior minister Bernard Cazeneuve said: “The authority of the state will be guaranteed. There are no no-go zones” before acknowledging that there are “particularly difficult areas”.

Valls promised all would be done to bring those responsible for the petrol bomb attack to justice.

“These individuals will be found, brought to justice and severely punished because when we attack the police, we attack France itself,” said the PM.

But police unions disagreed with the prime minister.

“Of course there are no-go zones in France where the police cannot intervene and do their jobs in safety,” Denis Jacob from the union Alternative police-CFDT told The Local. “And it’s the same for fire fighters or pretty much any representative of the state.

“The police can’t apply the law in these areas, they are attacked. If the police can’t do their work it’s because there are criminals and delinquents who don’t respect the law.”

“It’s not just a problem with this government it’s a problem with all French governments over the last 20 years. Governments will never admit there are no-go zones because it’s a sign of a failed state.”

New statistics were released on Monday that will concern Valls and anyone working in the French police force.

According to France’s national crime observatory, between 2010 and 2015 the number of police and gendarmes (military police) injured while on duty rose by 25 percent.

In 2015 some 5,674 police officers were injured in the line of duty compared to 4,535 back in 2010.

For the gendarmes the rise was even more striking – 1,807 injuries in 2015 compared to 1,408 in 2010.

“A section of the population has no respect for the police or the state anymore,” said Jacob.

He said the solution was a return to local policing and local police stations or the UK’s old “bobbies on the beat” style of policing….”

  28. Clintons nearly drove top staffer to suicide, email claims

Chelsea Clinton was “more concerned” about an article in The Post “about her father and a multitude of women over the years” than about the health of two senior Clinton Foundation officials — one of whom threatened to kill herself, according to an explosive WikiLeaks email released Monday.

In a December 2011 email exchange, Bill Clinton’s closest aide, Doug Band, told other Clinton aides that he had to talk foundation COO Laura Graham out of driving her car into the water on Staten Island because she was under such stress caused by “wjc and cvc as well as that of her family.” The reference appears to be to William Jefferson “Bill” Clinton and Chelsea Victoria Clinton.

  29. Border Crisis: Illegal Crossings May Be Far Higher Than Official Numbers
Head of border patrol union says government has been ‘lying to the American people’

by Brendan Kirby | Updated 10 Oct 2016 at 11:56 AM

A new Department of Homeland Security study revises and lowers the estimated success rate in stopping illegal immigrants crossing the southern border, but even that figure paints a misleading picture, according to the president of the union representing border patrol officers.

The Associated Press said last week that the report, which has not yet been made public, estimates that 54 percent of the roughly 315,000 people trying to cross the border in fiscal year 2015 succeeded. That is significantly worse than the 81 percent success rate in stopping illegal border crossings that the government officially claims.

    By Andrea Shalal

BERLIN (Reuters) – A nuclear power plant became the target of a disruptive cyber attack two to three years ago, and there is a serious threat of militant attacks on such plants, the head of the United Nations nuclear watchdog said on Monday.

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director Yukiya Amano also cited a case in which an individual tried to smuggle a small amount of highly enriched uranium about four years ago that could have been used to build a so-called “dirty bomb”.

“This is not an imaginary risk,” Amano told Reuters and a German newspaper during a visit to Germany that included a meeting with Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

“This issue of cyber attacks on nuclear-related facilities or activities should be taken very seriously. We never know if we know everything or if it’s the tip of the iceberg.”

Amano declined to give details of either incident, but said the cyber attack had caused “some disruption” at the plant, although it did not prove to be very serious since the plant did not have to shut down its operations. He said he had not previously discussed the cyber attack in public.

  32. Taliban leader was openly teaching and preaching in Pakistan (khaama, Oct 10, 2016)
    http://www.khaama.com/taliban-leader-was-openly-teaching-and-preaching-in-pakistan-02040

“The new supreme leader of the Afghan Taliban Mawlavi Haibatullah Akhundzada was openly teaching and preaching in a mosque in Balochistan province of Pakistan before he was appointed to succeed Mullah Akhtar Mansoor who was killed in US drone strike in Pakistan.

The mosque, Al Haaj mosque, where Mawlavi Akhundzada was teaching and preaching is located in Kuchlak, near the city of Quetta, the associates and students of Akhundzada told Reuters.

According to Reuters, the latest disclosures regarding Akhundzada could put further pressure on Pakistan to do more to crack down on militants openly living there.

Akhundzada was appointed the supreme leader of the Taliban group in May, days after Mullah Mansoor was targeted in a US drone strike in the vicinity of Balochistan province of Afghanistan.

He is believed to be hiding after taking charge of the group with his associates and students saying “Once he became Emir, he left with his whole family.”

Hafiz Abdul Majeed, who runs the Al Haaj mosque, told Reuters that he himself studied for several years under Akhundzada.

“You can’t teach religion and run (the Taliban’s) government at the same time. And it would of course have been dangerous for us and the students and the mosque if he remained here,” he added.

This comes as the Afghan officials have long been criticizing Pakistan for remaining reckless to act against the leadership councils of the Taliban and the notorious Haqqani terrorist network based in Peshawar and Quetta cities of Pakistan.

The Afghan officials also accuse the Pakistani military, specifically the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) for supporting the Afghan militants.”

  33. <For those who think the election has been lost, please read this. The election is still to come and Hillary is still the evilest person running, and it is showing.

Trump did more than win last night’s debate: He wiped the smirk off Clinton’s face

Last night, moments after the sluggest at Wash. U. — aka, the second 2016 presidential debate — I checked headlines to see what the liberal chattering class had to say. I came across the results of a poll conducted by CNN (during the debate, I suppose, because the story was up and running by 10:35) that found that 57% of viewers said Clinton won the debate. Now I understand it is common practice for both sides to declare victory in cases like this, but I honestly had to ask myself which debate those viewers were tuned in to.

The one I watched had a Hillary Clinton who walked onstage with the expectation of smirking at everything her opponent said, as she did through much of the first debate. But it also featured a Donald Trump, who early on, knocked that smug grin off Hillary’s kisser by reminding her of the $850,000 settlement her husband had paid out to one of his rape accusers and of her own ugly defense of a rapist against a 12-year-old female back when she was a public defender.

Trump came prepared last night. He preceded the debate with a press conference in which he was joined by the aforementioned rape victim, Kathy Shelton, as well as three women — Paula Jones, Juanita Broaddrick, and Kathleen Willey — who had claimed Bill Clinton forced himself on them. It was a stroke of genius in that it diverted attention away from Trump’s “locker room” comments and on to the issues that face the nation. In service of this last goal, he hammered away relentlessly at Clinton’s 30-year record as a career politician who was at best all talk and no action.

  34. Leaked Emails Show Facebook Exec Shared Research With Clinton Campaign

Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg shared research with key members of the Clinton campaign, newly released emails show.

Sandberg has endorsed Clinton, and just last month Politico reported that Clinton may tap Sandberg for Treasury secretary if elected.

Clinton aide Cheryl Mills set up a meeting in March, 2015 for Sandberg to share research with members of Hillary Clinton’s inner circle, including chief campaign strategist Joel Benenson and campaign manager John Podesta.

At the meeting, which took place a month before Clinton formally announced her candidacy for president, Sandberg shared research on “gender and leadership by women.” It’s unclear from the emails if the research in question was done by Facebook, or if it was Sandberg’s personal research.

A Facebook official speaking on background said the research Sandberg was sharing with the Clinton campaign came from her personal work, and was unrelated to Sandberg’s work at Facebook.

“I have arranged for *Sheryl Sandberg and her researcher to be available on 5 March at 10 am to step through the research on gender and leadership by women*. The HRC meeting begins at 11am,” Mills wrote to Benenson in February 2015.

“Are you available then for such a meeting?” she asked. “If so, who else should be included?”

“Yes. I can do it. I would also like to bring Katie Connolly, the VP who is working with me on all HRC work if that’s OK,” Benenson replied.

Mills then blasted out an email about the logistics of the meeting to Podesta, Benenson and other key figures like Kristina Schake, who is now the deputy communications director for the Clinton campaign.

Mills’ back-and-forth with Benenson was included in the email covering logistics. That email was one of thousands of stolen from Podesta’s personal email account and published by Wikileaks.

Facebook is often accused of operating with a liberal agenda.

In April, Facebook employees asked liberal CEO Mark Zuckerberg if they should abuse their power to try and prevent a Trump presidency. (RELATED: Facebook Shows Support For Black Lives Matter Hours After Dallas Shooting)

A month later, former Facebook employees admitted the site consistently buried conservative news stories.
