  1. Germany: No UK access to free market without free movement of people – Merkel talks tough on Brexit

The UK’s demands for access to the EU’s domestic market can only be met if the union’s four core principles are upheld by the UK, said Angela Merkel during a speech at the ‘Day of German Industry’ conference in Berlin, Thursday.

Merkel asked “The question is how much access will we give Britain to our domestic markets and how much access do we in turn get in the British market, and under which circumstances?” The Chancellor continued, warning that “if we detach the access to our domestic market from the four basic freedoms, a process will start in Europe where everyone does whatever they want.”

  2. France to build 33 new prisons across the country (thelocal, Oct 6, 2016)
    https://www.thelocal.fr/20161006/france-to-build-33-new-prisons-across-the-country

“France’s Prime Minister Manuel Valls announced a plan to build 33 new prisons around the country by 2025 to deal with the chronic overcrowding in France’s jails.

“We need to build 33 new penitentiary institutions: 32 prisons and one detention centre,” said the French PM Manuel Valls on Thursday.

He then spelled out just why France had no choice but to massively boost the number of prison beds in the country.

He said the overpopulation rate was over 140 percent.

In July authorities counted 69,375 prisoners compared to 58,311 official places available in the country’s 188 prisons.

The PM added that the prison conditions “were not dignified for a country like France”.

Valls said the new prisons will be ready by 2025, but has highlighted nine priority areas.

The Paris region as well as Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur will be among the regions prioritized.

The south west and eastern France are also expected to see their prison populations rise and will also be given priority attention…”

  3. Ex-Isis fighter jailed for nearly 7 years by Düsseldorf court (thelocal, Oct 6, 2016)
    https://www.thelocal.de/20161006/german-court-jails-isis-fighter-for-nearly-seven-years

“Two German courts Thursday jailed an Isis group jihadist and handed prison terms to four men for backing another Islamist militant group in Syria.

In one trial, a German-Turkish citizen named only as Kerim Marc B. received a jail term of six years and nine months for swearing allegiance to Isis chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and joining the group in combat.

The 23-year-old from the western city of Düsseldorf had assumed the nom de guerre Abu Zulfikar and fought in a unit of predominantly Bosnian militants in 2013-14 before he was arrested in Turkey in 2015, the court heard.

Prosecutors in the Düsseldorf trial presented photos of B. with an AK-47 assault rifle and hand grenades and said that even in pre-trial detention, he had sought to convert fellow inmates.

Before the verdict was read, the defendant told the judges he had “completely turned my back on the Islamic State [Isis]”.

In another trial, four men were sentenced for supporting a Syrian rebel group the court labelled a “foreign terrorist organisation”, the hardline Islamist Ahrar al-Sham.

The four men had supplied the militia, which is battling the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, with thousands of second-hand military jackets and boots as well as ambulances, the court in the southwestern city of Stuttgart heard.

They received terms ranging from three and a half years jail to a suspended prison term of one year and nine months.”

    https://www.thelocal.dk/20161006/danish-nationalist-charged-with-racism-for-refugee-spray

“Daniel Carlsen, the leader of the nationalist Danes’ Party (Danskernes Parti) has been charged with violating Denmark’s racism law by handing out cans of ‘refugee spray’.

In a stunt that elicited strong emotions and attracted international attention, Carlsen took to the streets of Haderslev in southern Jutland to distribute over 100 cans of what he called ‘refugee spray’.

The cans actually contained hair spray but were relabelled as an “effective” and “legal” means for Danes to protect themselves from refugees and asylum seekers.

On Wednesday, South Jutland Police confirmed to TV Syd that a racism charge had been filed against Carlsen.

Carlsen, a former member of a Nazi party, said the police charge was “political theatre”.

“I think it is a very, very weak case. We handed out hairspray with a sticker on it so I doubt that anything at all comes out of the charges,” he told news agency Ritzau.

He added that the police likely acted on “political pressure” from parliament…”

  5. Koran street giveaway banned again (thelocal, Oct 6, 2016)
    https://www.thelocal.at/20161006/koran-street-giveaway-banned-again-islamist-salafist

“A controversial Quran distribution campaign which intelligence services have warned is used as a recruitment tool for radical Islamists has been banned.

The ban was initiated by the far-right Austrian Freedom Party (FPO) in the Doebling neighbourhood of the Austrian capital of Vienna.

Neighbourhood chief Adi Tiller of the conservative (ÖVP) confirmed the agreement between the two parties and the socialist SPÖ to ban the campaign in Doebling.

Austrian authorities had been trying to stop the campaign for months, but they had been unable to put an end to it as the radical Islamists moved from neighbourhood to neighbourhood or simply ignored the bans. It has to be seen if the latest bipartisan initiative therefore will have any effect.

The Quran distribution campaign in Austria came under fire after it was revealed that a jailed terrorist was one of the original organisers.

Mirsad Omerovic, 35, was involved in the recruitment of tragic teenage schoolgirls Samra Kesinovic, 17, and her friend Sabina Selimovic, who was 15 when they left to join IS in Syria in April 2014…”

  6. Turkish troops to stay in Iraq despite Baghdad’s objections: PM (ahram, Oct 6, 2016)
    http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/2/8/245327/World/Region/Turkish-troops-to-stay-in-Iraq-despite-Baghdads-ob.aspx

“Turkey said Thursday that its troops will remain in Iraq despite Baghdad’s growing anger ahead of a planned operation to retake the Iraqi city of Mosul from Islamic State jihadists.

Baghdad has accused Ankara of risking a regional war by keeping its forces inside Iraq, with the dispute complicating plans for the ambitious American-backed Mosul operation.

“No matter what the Iraqi government in Baghdad says, a Turkish presence will remain there to fight against Daesh (IS), and to avoid any forceful change of the demographic composition in the region,” Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said in televised comments.

Turkey has an estimated 2,000 troops in Iraq — around 500 of them in the Bashiqa camp in northern Iraq training Iraqi fighters who hope to participate in the battle to recapture Mosul, according to Turkish media.

The Turkish parliament on Saturday extended a government mandate by one year, allowing its troops to remain on both Iraqi and Syrian soil…”

    • Erdogan is playing a risky game in his attempt to rebuild the Ottoman Empire, he wants to keep the parts of Syria he is occupying and he wants to keep the Kurds from getting anymore territory to build their own nation. Assad wants him out of Syria and Putin whats him out but only after he has served the purpose of driving the Kurds out. The Iranians also want him out but aren’t going to try anything right now because they still need Russia.

      • To use a much-abused expression, this is a violation of international law. I’m not crazy about what passes for the government of Iraq, but it happens to be the government in fact.

Erdoff was given permission by Uncle Vlad to go a certain distance into Syria. Only the US could give him permission to go into Iraq. And we haven’t. Because he’d be shooting our people.

        • Like I said he is playing a dangerous game, but the Game of Thrones isn’t for those who aren’t willing to think and risk big. International law will forgive him if he wins.

“At least 22 soldiers were killed in Niger on Thursday when unknown assailants attacked a camp for Malian refugees, the West African nation’s Prime Minister Brigi Rafini said.

The attack targeted a camp in the village of Tassalit in Niger’s Tahoua region, around 525 km (326 miles) northeast of the capital Niamey.

“We received information of an attack on the camp in Tassalit. For the moment we are told there are 22 dead, but that is not a total death toll,” he said in comments broadcast on state-run television TeleSahel. “The death toll could increase.”…”

  8. the gateway pundit – FBI FILES: Boxes Full of Hillary Clinton Emails Missing Amid Allegations of Evidence Tampering

Let’s be frank. This entire affair over Hillary Clinton’s emails and the completely corrupted investigation is worse than Watergate and the worthless liberal media has reacted with a collective shrug.

At least FOX News has been reporting on it:

FBI files reveal missing email ‘boxes’ in Clinton case, allegations of evidence tampering

Buried in the 189 pages of heavily redacted FBI witness interviews from the Hillary Clinton email investigation are details of yet another mystery — about two missing “bankers boxes” filled with the former secretary of state’s emails.

The interviews released earlier this month, known as 302s, also reveal the serious allegation that senior State Department official Patrick Kennedy applied pressure to subordinates to change the classified email codes so they would be shielded from Congress and the public.

The details about the boxes are contained in five pages of the FBI file – with a staggering 111 redactions – that summarize the statements of a State Department witness who worked in the “Office of Information Programs and Services (IPS).” The employee told the FBI that, “Initially, IPS officials were told there were 14 bankers boxes of former Secretary of State Hillary CLINTON’s emails at CLINTON’s Friendship Heights office.” Friendship Heights is a neighborhood that straddles the Northwest neighborhood of the District of Columbia and Maryland.

The State Department witness further explained to the FBI that “on or about December 5, 2014, IPS personnel picked up only 12 bankers boxes of CLINTON’s emails from Williams & Connolly.”

The officials were not sure if the boxes “were consolidated or what could have happened to the two other boxes. “

Destroyed and missing evidence, evidence tampering, cell phones destroyed with hammers, secret meetings on airplanes, etc., etc., etc.

    How does our media react?

Look! Trump said something mean about a beauty queen 20 years ago!

  9. White House coordinated with State Department, Clinton campaign on email issue, documents show

Newly disclosed emails show top Obama administration officials were in close contact with Hillary Clinton’s nascent presidential campaign in early 2015 about the potential fallout from revelations that the former secretary of state used a private email server.

Their discussion included a request from the White House communications director to her counterpart at the State Department to see if it was possible to arrange for Secretary of State John Kerry to avoid questions during media appearances about Mrs. Clinton’s email arrangement.

In another instance, a top State Department official assured an attorney for Mrs. Clinton that, contrary to media reports, a department official hadn’t told Congress that Mrs. Clinton erred in using a private email account.

The previously unreported emails were obtained by the Republican National Committee as part of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit seeking records of Mrs. Clinton’s time in office. The RNC provided to The Wall Street Journal only some of the emails, leaving it unclear what was in the remaining documents. The RNC said it released only emails relevant to the communication between the White House and State Department.

Meredith McGehee, chief of policy, programs, and strategy at the nonpartisan advocacy group Issue One and an expert on ethics and campaign finance, said the email exchange would probably raise no legal concerns because federal law permits members of the White House staff to engage in some political activity.

Mrs. Clinton’s email arrangement has dogged her campaign for months, with Republicans and other critics saying it shows a carelessness with government secrets and undermines her claim to good judgment. Donald Trump’s campaign posted a statement on his website last month saying the Obama White House knew Mrs. Clinton was using a private email server.

Mrs. Clinton has acknowledged the arrangement was a mistake, but she has rejected the notion that national secrets were placed at risk. Her campaign didn’t respond to a request for comment about the new email disclosures.

The emails highlight the revolving door between the State Department, the White House and the Clinton campaign in early 2015 as Mrs. Clinton geared up to run for president.

New Emails Expose White House Helped Clinton Campaign Navigate Server Scandal

The Obama White House was in close contact with the Clinton campaign last year, in handling the candidate’s email controversy.

The scandal surrounding former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server during her time as the country’s top diplomat have plagued her presidential run. New revelations won’t help put concerns of American voters to rest.

Emails newly obtained by the Republican National Committee, and shared in part with the Wall Street Journal, show communications between the White House and State Department that indicate the Obama Administration coordinated closely with Clinton presidential campaign to address and help manage the controversy.

One email includes a request from the White House for the State Department to arrange it so that Secretary of State John Kerry could avoid discussing Clinton’s email scandal in public.

“…Between us on the shows…think we can get this done so he is not asked about the email?” White House communications director Jennifer Palmieri wrote to State Department spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki.

“Good to go on killing CBS idea,” Psaki wrote back one day later. “And we are going to hold on any other TV options just given the swirl of crap out there.”

Palmieri later left the White House to work on Clinton’s campaign.

In response, State Department spokesman John Kirby claimed there was nothing unusual about the exchange between Psaki and Palmieri.

“It is common practice for State Department and White House staffers to be in touch when agency officials are potentially conducting television interviews,” he said, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Other redacted emails seem to indicate White House discussions about whether Kerry should be prevented from making appearances on Sunday morning talk shows, in order to avoid the Clinton email question from arising.

Another exchange showed a State Department official assuring an attorney for Clinton that the department had not criticized the candidate’s private server use before Congress, despite media reports to the contrary.

According to Meredith McGehee, an expert on campaign finance ethics with the nonpartisan advocacy group Issue One, the communications are likely legal since White House staff members are allowed to engage in certain political activity.

    • the daily caller – State Dept. And White House Coordinated To ‘Crush’ Clinton Email Coverage

The State Department and White House coordinated to shield Sec. of State John Kerry from being asked last March about Hillary Clinton’s emails in an interview on CBS News’ “Face the Nation,” newly released emails show.

“Think we can get this done so [Kerry] is not asked about email,” Jennifer Palmieri, then the White House’s communications director, wrote to then-State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki on March 12, 2015, two days after Clinton held her first press conference to answer questions about her email practices.

The emails were obtained by the Republican National Committee in a lawsuit and viewed by The Daily Caller. The Wall Street Journal and Washington Examiner also reported on the documents.

Involved on one email chain discussing Kerry’s CBS appearance was Benjamin Rhodes, President Obama’s deputy national security advisor for strategic communications.

Rhodes’ brother David is the president of CBS News.

The Examiner notes that Kerry was not asked about Clinton’s emails during his March 15 appearance on “Face the Nation.”

The emails are the first released to date which show how the White House and State Department interacted regarding the email scandal. They also lend support to what has long been speculated: that the Obama administration sought from the very beginning of the scandal to protect Hillary Clinton.

In a March 13, 2015, email entitled “Good to go on killing CBS idea,” Psaki told Palmieri “and we are going to hold on any other TV options just given the swirl of crap out there.”

Though Palmieri was at the White House at the time of the discussions, she had already announced that she would be taking a position on the Clinton campaign. Psaki took over Palmieri’s position when the latter left.

In an email exchange the day before, Palmieri wrote to Psaki: “Think we can get this done so he is not asked about email.”

“Agree completely and working to crush on my end,” Psaki wrote back.

It is unclear from the emails what steps Palmieri took to quash the email angle.

But two days prior to that, Psaki, Palmieri and several White House and State Department communications officials, including Ben Rhodes, discussed the issue on an email chain entitled “Face the Nation – Kerry.”

A spokeswoman for CBS News told The Wall Street Journal that no agreement was made with the State Department or White House to withhold questions about Clinton’s emails.

“No subject was off-limits when this interview was arranged, as is the CBS News standard,” Caitlin Conant told The Journal.

“CBS News’ State Department correspondent was in Egypt with Secretary John Kerry in the home stretch of the Iran nuclear deal negotiations and discussed policy issues of the day with him on this official trip.”

CBS News has been accused in the past of covering for the Obama administration because of the link between the Rhodes brothers. In 2014, CBS was accused of failing to cover a Ben Rhodes email of Benghazi talking points because of his brother’s position at the top of the network.

  10. Watchdog group accuses Clinton campaign of election law violations

A nonpartisan watchdog group Thursday called for a federal investigation of Hillary Clinton’s campaign committee, accusing it of illegally accepting millions of dollars worth of “opposition research” and other assistance from Correct the Record, an outside super-PAC, in violation of U.S. election laws.

The Campaign Legal Center also filed complaints with the Federal Election Commission to initiate probes of Donald Trump’s campaign, and two super-PACs backing it, for similar violations of laws barring “coordination” between political campaigns and outside groups.

But the Campaign Legal Center’s detailed 52-page complaint against Hillary for America and Correct the Record — part of the sprawling political empire run by Clinton backer David Brock — is likely to get special attention, given Clinton’s repeated advocacy of campaign finance reform. She has vowed to “curb the influence of big money in American politics” and to push for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United — the controversial ruling that opened the door for groups such as Correct the Record to accept unlimited donations to benefit political candidates.
