  1. One of Obama’s most telling vetos of his career:

Relatives of people who died in the Twin Towers and the Pentagon during the 9/11 attacks picketed the White House on Tuesday demanding that President Barack Obama sign a bill that passed both chambers of Congress without opposition.

The White House says Obama intends to veto the bill, which would allow Americans to sue foreign countries including Saudi Arabia for alleged connection to terrorist attacks by greatly expanding a current exception to lawsuit-blocking sovereign immunity.

Obama has until Friday to make his decision final on the bill, and family members and supporters hoped to change his mind, though they chanted that they expect lawmakers to override the veto if one comes — a potential first for the Obama presidency.

A man with a knife who allegedly tried to enter the Israeli Embassy on Sept. 21 in Ankara was shot in the leg by the Turkish security officers in front of the embassy building.

The attacker, who was heard shouting as “I will change the Middle East,” reportedly attempted to attack the embassy’s security personnel before he was shot.

AP – North Korea’s repeated flouting of U.N. Security Council resolutions by conducting nuclear and missile tests calls into question its suitability for membership of the world body, South Korea’s top diplomat has told The Associated Press.
Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se stopped short of calling for Pyongyang’s expulsion from the U.N. but said its authoritarian government was violating the terms under which both the Koreas had been admitted 25 years ago. He said the North had “broken records” in its violation of global norms: It is the only nation to have conducted nuclear tests in the 21st century and is already subject to five Security Council resolutions over its weapons testing.

(AhlulBayt News Agency) – According to Kuwaiti daily newspaper al-Qabas, Mrs. Farah al-Fayez, 27, the ex-wife of Saudi playboy foreign minister and former Saudi envoy to Washington, started divorce proceedings in a British court. The Kuwaiti newspaper claims that Adel al-Jubeir, the 50-year-old saudi diplomat (the youngish-by-Saudi-standards) has been enmeshed in yet another public disgrace by taking part in “obnoxious male parties in Thailand”.

Mr. Jubeir has been virtually indifferent to these unsubstantiated rumors. “No, he’s not granting any requests for interviews,” one press aide at the Saudi Embassy in London said on Monday. “People from British media keep calling and calling — he doesn’t want to talk regarding this private matter.”

  6. These two senators mean well, but I am not sure they are correct about which side in the Islamic terror wars the USA is on…

    http://www.dawn.com/news/1285165/us-lawmakers-move-bill-to-declare-pakistan-state-sponsor-of-terrorism

WASHINGTON: Two United States lawmakers moved a bill in Congress seeking designation of Pakistan as a ‘state sponsor of terrorism’ on Wednesday.

The bill titled the Pakistan State Sponsor of Terrorism Designation Act was introduced by Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Terrorism Ted Poe and Congressman Dana Rohrabacher at a time when Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is in the US to address the United Nations General Assembly.

Congressman Poe termed Pakistan an “untrustworthy ally” which he alleged “has also aided and abetted enemies of the US for years”.

“From harbouring Osama bin Laden to its cosy relationship with the Haqqani network, there is more than enough evidence to determine whose side Pakistan is on in the War on Terror. And it’s not America’s,” Poe said.

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/3121999/security/researchers-demonstrate-remote-attack-against-tesla-model-s.html

Tesla Motors is considered one of the most cybersecurity-conscious car manufacturers in the world—among other things, it has a bug bounty program. But that doesn’t mean the software in its cars is free of security flaws.

Researchers from Chinese technology company Tencent found a series of vulnerabilities that, when combined, allowed them to remotely take over a Tesla Model S car and control its sunroof, central display, door locks and even the braking system. The attack allowed the researchers to access the car’s controller area network (CAN) bus, which lets the vehicle’s specialized computers communicate with each other.

  8. 12 officers injured, fires set, as protests break out in Charlotte after police fatally shoot man

Police in Charlotte, N.C., shot and killed a black man they said was armed outside an apartment complex on Tuesday, setting off violent protests that continued late into the night and left two dozen people injured. The officer involved was also black, police told The Washington Post.

A large crowd of demonstrators gathered near the scene of the shooting Tuesday evening to protest the killing of Keith Lamont Scott, who was fatally shot by a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officer earlier in the day. The demonstrations began peacefully, with some people chanting “black lives matter” and “hands up, don’t shoot.” News reports and posts on social media later showed police in riot gear firing tear gas and rubber bullets at the demonstrators and some people smashing out the windows of police cars.

The Paris-based Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, which issued strong warnings about the likely impact of a vote to leave the EU ahead of the 23 June vote, has revised up its forecast for growth this year as a result of a stronger-than expected performance in the first half of 2016 and action by the Bank of England in August to spur activity.

Charlotte, N.C., erupted into a riot Tuesday night after hundreds of people gathered to protest the fatal shooting of a black man.

According to police, officers were serving a warrant when they encountered Keith Lamont Scott in his car. Police say Scott got out of his car with a gun and was shot because he posed an immediate threat.

But, according to demonstrators on the scene and supporters online, Scott was a disabled man who was simply holding a book and was no threat when he was gunned down. Soon after the shooting, people began to gather, and they soon swelled to a crowd of hundreds and began clashing with riot police.

Some people just can’t resist the urge to plug random USB sticks into their computers. Now, someone in Australia is taking full advantage of the public’s naivety when it comes to cybersecurity.

On Wednesday, police from Victoria warned of malicious USB sticks being placed in citizens’ mailboxes.

“The USB drives are believed to be extremely harmful and members of the public are urged to avoid plugging them into their computers or other devices,” the announcement reads.

Those who plug the devices into their PCs are presented with “fraudulent media streaming service offers, as well as other serious issues,” the announcement adds.

Simultaneously, a large-scale military parade was also held in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas under supervision of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy, with more than 500 watercraft as well as fighter jets and helicopters in attendance.

One of the remarkable achievements put on display in the parades in Bandar Abbas was a new ballistic missile, dubbed Zolfaqar.

Known as one of the most precise homegrown missiles, Zolfaqar is a long-range ballistic missile with a cluster warhead capable of hitting targets spread over the ground.

A Syrian warplane crashed north of Damascus on Wednesday, but it was unclear if it had been shot down or came down because of a technical fault, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group said.

The jet crashed in the Eastern Qalamoun area near the Syrian capital, the British-based Observatory said.

Islamic State militants, who have a presence in the area, said in an online statement that the plane had been shot down.

Syrian state media quoted a military source as confirming a warplane had crashed after targeting Islamic State. It did not give a reason for the crash. It said the pilot had been rescued.

Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi had some fighting words for German leader Angela Merkel: Your obsession with austerity is strangling Europe and your country is the only one profiting.
That view, held by others in the European Union, rarely gets aired publicly quite so forcefully. Especially by Renzi, who until recently had deployed priceless ancient Roman art and Ferraris in some of Merkel’s recent visits to Italy. But Brexit, which exposed cracks in the European project, has made the EU more vulnerable to jabs.
In New York for the United Nations General Assembly, while Merkel hung back at home to face an angry electorate, Renzi lashed out.
“Stressing austerity means destroying Europe,” Renzi told an audience of policy experts at the Council on Foreign Relations. ”Which is the only country which receives an advantage from this strategy? The one which exports the most: Germany.”

The Russian Defence Ministry added it believed the attack did not involve the sort of damage consistent with an air strike, and instead was caused by the presence of field artillery and a subsequent fire. The US government had “no facts” to support the allegations and Russia has “nothing to do with this situation,” a spokesperson added.

  24. Migrants Are Main Target of French Presidential Candidates (abcnews, Sep 21, 2016)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/migrants-main-target-french-presidential-candidates-42240659

“Temporary home to thousands of migrants trying to reach Britain, the French city of Calais is a major battlefield for presidential candidates who are seizing on fears of immigration in campaigning for spring elections — and following in the footsteps of far-right leader Marine Le Pen.

Former President Nicolas Sarkozy, competing in the conservative primary in November, visited Calais on Wednesday.

Sarkozy didn’t go to the makeshift camp known as the “jungle.” Instead he met security forces in charge of protecting the ferry port and preventing migrants from entering the area. He made no public comment during the visit.

Presidential contender Le Pen, well positioned in polls, has made fighting immigration her longstanding issue. The president of the National Front is campaigning to leave the EU and its visa-free zone, which would allow France to reinstate controls at national borders.

Sarkozy’s rivals for the conservative nomination have also visited Calais, and President Francois Hollande — who has not formally declared his candidacy — is considering going to Calais next week. The migrants from Africa, the Middle East and beyond camped in Calais are a thorn in the side of the Socialist government, the symbol of its failure to find effective responses to Europe’s migrant crisis.

French conservative politicians argue that Britain should be responsible for dealing with people who hope for asylum in the U.K. They want to renegotiate a 2003 treaty that effectively puts the British border in Calais, leaving French authorities to police migrants trying to cross the Channel.

Sarkozy signed that treaty as interior minister, but now he wants to send migrants to a center on British territory. The U.K. would be in charge of repatriating those who would not be granted a legal status, he has said.

His main challenger in the conservative primary, former Prime Minister Alain Juppe, went to Calais in January, including a walk in boots in the muddy slum camp.

“It’s not acceptable to keep going that way,” Juppe told Franceinfo radio-television network Tuesday. “We must differentiate those who are here illegally and send them back” to their countries.

Le Pen paid her last visit to Calais two years ago, when she claimed she would send the migrants “back home even to countries at war.”

Hollande’s government promised to dismantle the Calais camp by the end of the year and resettle migrants in small centers across France to examine their situations on a case-by-case basis.

That plan has prompted vehement protests from many local conservative and far-right politicians, saying they fear the consequences of the presence of migrants in their towns.

The number of migrants living in the “jungle” reached as many as 10,000 this month according to aid groups operating in the camp, compared to 7,000 according to a count by French authorities in August. There were a few hundred there in 2012 when Hollande was elected.”

  26. This is why people aren’t buying scare words like ‘white nationalist’ anymore

    http://libertyunyielding.com/2016/09/20/people-arent-buying-scare-words-like-white-nationalist-anymore/

Time was when decent people went in fear of being labeled with epithets like “racist,” “bigot,” “white nationalist,” “nativist,” or the left’s of-the-moment, total-hotness, all-purpose slur, “populist.”

Good people who know they aren’t these things could once be made defensive and uncomfortable by being accused of such sympathies.

But that hand has been terminally overplayed now.

There are different kinds of situations in which it no longer has the power to daunt and silence innocent people. In one of the most common, anything the left doesn’t like is simply called by one or more of these names, no matter how manifestly idiotic it is.

Such a situation has erupted with sexual assault victim Anne-Marie Waters. Ms. Waters, a one-time left-wing activist, is an LGBT feminist and women’s rights campaigner. She’s gay. In October 2015, she wrote a post published at Breitbart, “Europe’s Rape Epidemic: Western Women Will Be Sacrificed At The Altar Of Mass Migration.” In it, she wrote about “her own experiences with sexually aggressive migrants, as well as using statistics from Norway, Denmark, Germany, and the United Kingdom.”

  29. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-37412508

Fear of violent crime is encouraging young people in London to carry knives, resulting in a rise in stabbings, a police and crime report suggests.
Knife crime in the city has risen to a four-year high following a relatively steady increase since June 2014.
In June 2012 there were 1,719 recorded stabbings of people aged under 25 in the capital compared with 1,749 in August 2016, the report found.
It said gang activity accounted for less than 5% of London knife crimes.
Steve O’Connell, one of the report’s authors who leads the Police and Crime Committee (PCC), said: “This is significant, because not many people realise that if you only look at gang violence you won’t make much difference to what is happening with knife crime.”
Nationally knife crime rose last year for the first time in four years in England and Wales.

I have, however, seen one that includes another public figure … someone in fact close to Hillary (in proximity — they live in the same mansion — if in no other way).

It is from November 2015, and it stars, among other prominent Americans, former President Bill Clinton. The video, which follows, doesn’t identify him by name, but it does displays his image while calling him a fornicator.ump hasn’t been in an ISIS recruitment video … but your hubby has!

  31. 40% of the State Department appointments Hillary Clinton made as secretary were donors

But who’s counting? If you are, be advised that 194 of the 511 advisory appointments made by then-Secretary of State Hillary Cllinton were to donors to the Clinton campaign, the Clinton Foundation, or both

But that’s only the tip of the iceberg. A bigger issue in what seems like another glaring example of the Clintons’ pay-to-play quid pro quo is that some of the appointees were woefully unqualified for the positions they were awarded, according to the Washington Examiner.

Take Kaki Hockersmith, for example. A member of the Arkansas Governors Mansion Association, Hockersmith bundled at least $100,000 in contributions for Clinton’s failed 2008 run for president.

In return Hockersmith was named to the United States National Commission on UNESCO, a panel that “supports worldwide humanitarian development and values.” Hockersmith’s qualifications for the post? She is an interior designer from Little Rock.

Another appointee, Rajiv Fernando, was named to the International Security Advisory Board by Clinton’s chief of staff, Cheryl Mills. According to its State Department webpage:

  36. Germany: Populists are exploiting Germans’ concerns over migration – govt

German Parliamentary State Secretary and commissioner for eastern Germany, Iris Gleicke, stated that far-right sentiment was on the rise in eastern Germany and that populist parties were using people’s concerns over migration to strengthen their political standing, during a press conference in Berlin on Wednesday.

SOT, Iris Gleicke, Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (German): “Of course, people were scared and they saw a great deal of problems which appeared during the course of the integration process, of so many people who arrived during the last year. And this integration is not over. It’s a long-term task. And no one is acting as if there is only a bright side, of course there are a lot of challenges and people are making great efforts [to resolve these]. And of course populists benefit from such a situation and use everyone’s worries and concerns. We have to show that this integration can succeed, that we can manage it. I think we have to invest money, we have to take time, and we have to increase involvement.”

SOT, Iris Gleicke, Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (German): “The rise of the far-right in east Germany is very serious and significantly higher than in west Germany. We see a huge problem at the moment which concerns me a lot. We have to determine how to deal with this problem. We have to determine the very causes of this rise.”

  38. With Trump Regaining North Carolina Lead, Hillary Unexpectedly Postpones Local Fundraiser “Without Reason”

If there was a time Hillary needed to make a public appearance in the key battleground state of North Carolina to drum up voter support, it was today, if for no other reason than a just released Elon University poll finding Trump now has a modest 44% advantage among likely voters in the Tar Heel State, with 43% going to Clinton.

Another United Nations summit in New York. Another finger-wagging extravaganza. Another useless “historic declaration” (nonbinding, of course) to save the world (by holding another summit … in two years).

As America reels from the latest terrorist attacks by Muslim refugees and immigrants in New York, New Jersey and Minnesota, the world’s global do-gooders filled the Big Apple with their humanitarian hot air. U.N. officials convened in

  40. Where Does Black Lives Matter’s Anti-Semitism Come From?

The recently published platform of Black Lives Matter (BLM) states that Israel is responsible for “the genocide taking place against the Palestinian people,” and “Israel is an apartheid state … that sanction[s] discrimination against the Palestinian people.” These statements are anti-Semitic not only because they are false and modern versions of tradition anti-Semitic blood libel, but also because BLM selectively chooses the Jewish State out of all the states in the world to demonize. What has inspired BLM to engage in this counter-factual, anti-Semitic rant? BLM has been guided to anti-Semitism by the concept of “intersectionality.”

“Intersectionality” is the idea that all oppressed peoples and categories of people share a position, and by virtue of that fact are potential allies in the struggle against their oppressors.

“Intersectionality” is a concept used to describe the ways in which “oppressive institutions” (racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, xenophobia, classism, etc.) are interconnected and cannot be examined separately from one another. The concept is credited to the legal scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw, writing in 1989, but it is only in recent years that it has escaped academia and swarmed into the streets.

  41. Palestinians: “The Mafia of Destruction”

Question: How do Palestinian patients obtain permits to receive medical treatment in Israeli and other hospitals around the world? Answer: By paying bribes to senior Palestinian officials in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Those who cannot afford to pay the bribes are left to die in under-equipped and understaffed hospitals, especially in the Gaza Strip.

Yet, apparently some Palestinians are more equal than others: Palestinians whose lives are not in danger, but who pretend that they are. These include businessmen, merchants, university students and relatives of senior Palestinian Authority (PA) and Hamas officials, who receive permits to travel to Israel and other countries under the pretext of medical emergency.

Many Palestinians point a finger at the PA’s Ministry of Health in the West Bank. They argue that senior ministry officials have been abusing their powers, in order to collect bribes both from genuine patients and from other Palestinians who only want medical permits in order to leave the Gaza Strip or the West Bank. Thanks to the corruption, many real patients have been denied the opportunity to receive proper medical care in Israel and other countries.

  42. Muslim Militants Go Door to Door Killing Christians
The attacks come as Boko Haram kills four at a church and a boat captain starts trial for throwing Christian refugees overboard.

Three horrific incidents in three different countries highlight the global persecution of Christians by Muslim supremacists.

A mob of Muslim militants descended on Ndomete village in the Central African Republic (CAR) and went door-to-door killing Christians. The U.N. confirmed the casualty figures.

The militiamen, believed to belong to the Muslim militia group Seleka, killed 26 people and is thought to have deliberately targeted civilians. Seleka deposed then president Francois Bozize in 2013 and installed the Muslim Michel Djotodia instead.

Faced with mounting sectarian violence, Djotodia resigned in January 2014.
