      • Same as before, she looks like a horse, but she’s really a jackass.

Just remember Richard Nixon’s quip when 0 speaks at the UN:
“The jawbone of an ass is just as dangerous a weapon today as in Sampson’s time.”

  1. Philippines – Abu Sayyaf frees Norwegian hostage Kjartan Sekkingstad

Sekkingstad was released after almost a year in captivity while Canadian hostages were earlier beheaded.

The Abu Sayyaf armed group has freed a Norwegian man held hostage in the southern Philippines for almost a year after a ransom was reportedly paid.

Kjartan Sekkingstad, 56, was handed over on Jolo island, about 1,000km south of Manila on Saturday, after Abu Sayyaf received $638,000 in ransom for his release, said Abu Ramie, a spokesman for the armed group.

Sekkingstad was abducted from a high-end tourist resort in September 2015 alongside a Filipina woman, who has already been freed, and two Canadian men.

In April and June, the Canadians – John Ridsdel, 68, and Robert Hall, 67 – were beheaded after ransoms were not paid, while the Filipina, Marites Flor, was released.

Philippine official Jesus Dureza said Sekkingstad was handed over to the rebel group Moro National Liberation Front. The MNLF is currently in peace talks with the government and had been working with authorities to secure Sekkingstad’s release.

“He is well,” Dureza said, adding Sekkingstad would be handed over to authorities on Sunday and then flown to the southern city of Davao.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte was reportedly heading to Davao to receive Sekkingstad.

Norway said the release was a “positive development”.

“According to Philippine authorities, Sekkingstad is now in a relatively safe place,” Norway’s Foreign Minister Borge Brende said in a written comment to the AFP news agency.

  2. Critics call for BOYCOTT of Hungarian anti-migrant referendum because it is ‘inhumane’ (express, Sep 18, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/711775/Hungary-migrants-referendum-Viktor-Orban-boycott-European-Union

“OPPONENTS of Hungary’s government are calling for a boycott of the country’s Brexit-style referendum on the European Union’s migration policy because it is “xenophobic”.

President Viktor Orban’s administration will hold a referendum asking citizens if they wish to take in a set number of refugees imposed upon them by the EU.

But now opposition groups have called for voters to stay at home to annul the result of the vote, despite the government insisting the referendum is not xenophobic.

A coalition of 22 non-governmental organisations signed a statement calling on Hungarians to shun the plebiscite as it “does not allow the promotion of our common values, has no sense and is inhumane”.

But opinion polls show just a third of Hungarians still have sympathy with refugees fleeing conflict…”

  3. Militants attack Indian army base in Kashmir ‘killing 17’ (BBC, Sep 18, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-37399969

“Militants have attacked an army base in Indian-administered Kashmir, killing at least 17 soldiers, the army says.

Four of the attackers were killed, an army officer told the BBC. Carrying guns and grenades they stormed a base in Uri, close to the Line of Control with Pakistan in a pre-dawn ambush.

The incident is the most deadly in the disputed region in recent years.

It comes as violent protests against Indian rule in Kashmir continue, with a strict curfew now in place.

More than 80 people, nearly all anti-government protesters, have died in more than two months of violence.

A search is under way for other militants believed to be hiding in the area, according to the army…”

  4. ISIS Supporters Rush To Celebrate NYC Explosion
“We cause you pain inside your house,” one ISIS supporter bragged online

Supporters of the Islamic State rushed to celebrate Saturday night’s powerful explosion in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood that injured at least 29 people, even as no group or individual has been arrested or claimed responsibility.

“The lions of the Caliphate roar in New York, we cause you pain inside your house, the carrier of the Cross,” wrote one Twitter user who went by the name “I am ISIS, come and block me.” The account was soon suspended. Another, called “The Lone Wolves,” tweeted with the Arabic hashtag #ExplosionManhattanNewYork “Oh God burn America, take revenge in the name of your oppressed slaves and believers’ blood.”

Others tweeted about “good tidings that keep coming” from New York, and one user affiliated with al-Qaeda in Syria tweeted: “Oh God go against America, the head of infidels. Oh God, count them and kill them one by one, and do not spare anyone of them.”

    • ISIS supporters celebrate New York bomb explosion that injured 29 (express, Sep 18, 2016)
      http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/711855/Islamic-State-terror-ISIS-celebrate-New-York-bomb-explosion-America-US

“THE New York explosion has been celebrated by Islamic State (ISIS) supporters as America’s Terror Task Force joins the investigation into the Chelsea attack.

In total 29 people were injured when a bomb went off on a crowded sidewalk around 8.30pm on West 23rd Street in Chelsea, which the city’s mayor Bill de Blasio has called “an intentional act”.

A second device – believed to be a pressure cooker – was also identified by police and emergency services, but this was later removed and has now been sent off for testing.

No group or individual has yet claimed responsibility, and no arrests have been made so far.

But several accounts on social media have celebrated the deadly attack.

One Twitter user who went by the name ‘I am ISIS, come and block me’ wrote: “The lions of the Caliphate roar in New York, we cause you pain inside your house, the carrier of the Cross.”

      The account was soon suspended.

Another called The Lone Wolves tweeted with the Arabic hashtag #ExplosionManhattanNewYork, saying: “Oh God burn America, take revenge in the name of your oppressed slaves and believers’ blood.”

Others tweeted about “good tidings that keep coming” from New York, and one user affiliated with al-Qaeda in Syria tweeted: “Oh God go against America, the head of infidels.

“Oh God, count them and kill them one by one, and do not spare anyone of them.”

Officials in New York described the explosion as a deliberate, criminal act, but at the same time stressed investigators had not found evidence suggesting a “terror connection”.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and other city officials said investigators had ruled out a gas leak as the cause of the blast.

But the authorities stopped short of calling it a bombing and declined to specify precisely what they believed may have triggered the explosion.

Mr de Blasio said: “There is no evidence at this point of a terror connection.

“There is no specific and credible threat against New York City at this point in time from any terror organisation.”

To add to the confusion, a Joint Terrorism Task Force – an inter-agency group of federal, state and local officials – has been sent in to investigate the Chelsea blast.”

  5. Twenty killed in Central African Republic rebel violence (BBC, Sep 18, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-37399590

“At least 20 people have been killed in fighting between rival rebel groups in the Central African Republic, the UN mission in the country says.

UN peacekeepers said they had intervened to stop further violence in the northern town of Kaga Bandoro, near where the killings happened.

A spokesman for the presidency put the death toll at 26.

He said members of the mainly Muslim Seleka rebel group went from door to door and killed their victims…”

  6. Tensions Rising in Germany
Citizens clash with Syrian refugees–and each other.

Germany is blowing up again over migration. The Saxon town of Bautzen has, like dozens of similar places across Germany, a barracks for some of the million or two Middle Eastern migrants who have been streaming across the Mediterranean for the past year-and-a-half. People in Bautzen aren’t used to foreigners, and now groups of young men have taken to congregating in city’s central square, the Kornmarkt. The migrants say they come there for the free internet. This upsets the locals, 80 of whom waged a pitched battle against 20 teenage migrants on Wednesday evening. Alcohol was involved on both sides. To judge from the video at FAZ.com, accounts differ on who is to blame. The Germans say that the young migrants (whom they refer to as UMAs, the German acronym for unaccompanied minors seeking asylum) are harassing women and smashing things. The UMAs, in turn, say the locals (whom they refer to as “Nazis”) accost them every day with shouts of “Foreigners out!”

The confrontations take place against the background of a more general society-wide anger in Germany. Last Saturday, Bautzen’s right-wingers and left-wingers confronted each other on the streets, rather as they did a century ago in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution and Germany’s defeat in World War I. On Thursday night, following the fights, 350 people, most of them natives, were on the streets again. A cordon of police was required to separate the pro-immigrant and anti-immigrant sides—again, much as they once tried to separate the Communists and anti-Communists. More protests are planned for this weekend.

  7. Merkel faces new gains by anti-migrant AfD in Berlin

Berlin residents voted in state elections on Sunday, as a wave of protest voting against her welcome to refugees was expected to hit the hip, multicultural capital.

The right-wing populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has mobilised xenophobic and anti-Islam sentiment to win opposition seats in nine out of 16 states in Germany and is especially strong in the ex-communist east.

Fresh gains in long-divided Berlin — where the AfD has polled 14 percent, a year ahead of national elections — would spell another setback for Merkel, whose open-door policy brought one million asylum-seekers to Germany last year.

More than 70,000 of them came to Berlin, most still housed in refugee shelters including the cavernous hangars of the Nazi-built former Tempelhof airport, once the hub for the Cold War-era Berlin airlift.

  8. YOU’VE CAUSED CHAOS! EU chief blames Angela Merkel for migrant crisis and ISIS attacks
EUROPEAN Union (EU) bosses have blamed Angela Merkel and her open-door policy for the migrant crisis and Islamic State (ISIS) terror attacks on the continent.

As the remaining 27 European Union leaders attempted to put on a show of unity at a summit in Bratislava, Slovakia, Donald Tusk, president of the European Council hit out at the German Chancellor.

He said she created chaos in the region by welcoming 1.1million Syrian migrants last year.

Mr Tusk blamed “political correctness” for delays in closing Europe’s borders in 2015 which allowed more than a million into the continent unchecked, including ISIS jihadis who attacked Paris and Brussels killing 130 and 32 people respectively.

The United States made at least two separate payments to the Iranian government via wire transfer within the last 14 months, a Treasury Department spokesman confirmed Saturday, contradicting explanations from President Barack Obama that such payments were impossible.

Responding to questions at an Aug. 4 press conference about a $400 million payment delivered in cash to the Iranian government, Obama said, “[T]he reason that we had to give them cash is precisely because we are so strict in maintaining sanctions and we do not have a banking relationship with Iran that we couldn’t send them a check and we could not wire the money.”

  10. Black voters are turning from Clinton to Trump in new poll

Donald Trump is gaining support among African-American voters — whose enthusiasm for Hillary Clinton is eroding, a tracking poll released Saturday revealed.

Trump saw a 16.5 percentage-point increase in backing from African-American voters in a Los Angeles Times/University of Southern California tracking poll, up from 3.1 percent on Sept. 10 to 19.6 percent through Friday.

Meanwhile, the same poll showed Clinton’s support among that group plummeting from 90.4 percent on Sept. 10 to 71.4 percent.

Clinton’s nearly 20-point crash began Sunday, said Dan Schnur of USC. Sunday was the day Clinton was recorded collapsing while entering a Secret Service van at a 9/11 event.

The survey, which spanned through Friday, included the days in which Trump reignited the divisive “birther” issue — which critics contend is a thinly veiled attempt to undermine the legitimacy of the country’s first black president.

  11. Police shoot dead knifeman who stabbed eight people while ‘making references to Allah’ (express, Sep 18, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/711829/Police-shoot-dead-knifeman-stabbed-eight-people-reference-Allah-asked-Muslim

“A KNIFEMAN in Minnesota screaming ‘Allah’ stabbed eight people in a shopping centre – and asked one victim if he was Muslim before attacking him.

The attacker “made references” to Allah during his bloody rampage, police said, which came to an end only after he was gunned down by an off-duty cop inside a Macy’s store.

The attack, at the Crossroads Mall in St Cloud, Minnesota, is not currently being treated as terror-related, but investigations are ongoing.

St Cloud Police chief Blair Anderson told a press conference the attack started at about 8.15pm local time on Saturday, or 2.15am this morning UK time.

The suspect was dressed in a private security guard outfit, he added…”

  12. ISIS ‘shoot down plane over Syria’ (express, Sep 18, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/711841/ISIS-shoot-down-plane-over-Syria

“ISIS has claimed responsibility for the downing of a warplane over Syria, according to its own news agency.

The Islamic State-affiliated media outlet Amaq released a statement saying the warplane belonging to the Syrian government was brought down by jihadists in the eastern city of Deir al-Zor on Sunday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the Syrian conflict, confirmed the aircraft was an MiG Syrian warplane. The pilot was killed in the attack.

The Observatory said the plane came down in the Jebel Tharda area which overlooks the government’s Deir al Zor military airport, Reuters reported…”

  13. Cologne to build fence around Cathedral for NYE over fear of more migrant sex attacks (express, Sep 18, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/711485/Cologne-to-build-fence-around-Cathedral-for-NYE-over-fear-of-more-migrant-sex-attacks

“GERMAN police and local authorities are planning ahead of schedule to ensure women are not subject to the same sex attacks outside the Cathedral during this year’s New Year Eve celebrations.

And they are setting up controls to police the access to the festivities in a massive operation that is designed to expose any groups threatening to molest women.

Last year’s New Year’s Eve celebrations were marred after hundreds of sexual assaults were reported in Germany, mainly in Cologne city centre.

The assaults were not reported to the media by police at first and only emerged when victims took to social media to express their anger.

Thousands of migrant men are believed to have been involved in the shocking mass harassment, robbing and molestation of women.

According to local reports the Cologne Cathedral is to be protected by fences during the upcoming New Year’s Eve festivities.

An 80 metre radius will be set up in order to offer a level of protection for women according to Mayor Henriette Reker.

Police are also planning ahead of time a large scale event and a massive emergency services operation is underway already, said police commissioner Juergen Mathies.

Mr Mathies said: “The citizens and the people who come to Cologne this year at New Year’s Eve should feel safe. Such images as last year will not be repeated. Details regarding the security policy will be announced later.”

Around 1,200 reports were made, of which 500 were for sexual offences.

The Cologne prosecutors estimate the number of all defendants to be at more than 200.

Most come from Algeria and Morocco.

Cologne Provost Gerd Bachner added: “I am happy and grateful that the city tackles the subject of New Year’s and protection zones around the cathedral, because it’s urgently needed.

“We can not allow that people who come to Cologne are scared.”

According to reports, the New Year’s regulatory office and the police want to continue to provide enhanced presence to prevent “undesirable behaviour” and to make the area around the Cathedral safer and more attractive.

This would include solutions “to improve public order,” Mr Mathies added.”

  15. Just under 30 percent of French Muslims reject secular laws

PARIS (Reuters) – Just under 30 percent of France’s 3 to 4 million Muslims reject the country’s secular laws, according to an Ifop poll published by the French weekly Journal du Dimanche.

When asked if they considered the Islamic legal and moral code of sharia to be more important than the French Republic’s laws, 29 percent of respondents answered “yes.”

The poll found that 20 percent of male Muslim respondents and 28 percent of female Muslim respondents were in favor of the face veil, the niqab, and of the burqa which covers both face and body.

Another 60 percent said they were in favor of letting girls and women wear a head scarf at schools and universities which is forbidden at France’s secular public institutions.

Deadly attacks by Islamist militants, including bombings and shootings in Paris which killed 130 people last November and a truck attack in Nice killing more than 80 people in July, have raised tensions between communities in France.

French Muslim leaders said last month that decisions taken by some municipal authorities to ban the body-covering swimwear the burkini could lead to further stigmatization of Muslims.

    • Almost 30 percent of French Muslims reject secular laws, new poll finds (france24, Sep 18, 2016)
      http://f24.my/2ciKWwz

“Just under 30 percent of France’s 3 to 4 million Muslims reject the country’s secular laws, according to an Ifop poll published by the French weekly Journal du Dimanche.

When asked if they considered the Islamic legal and moral code of sharia to be more important than the French Republic’s laws, 29 percent of respondents answered “yes.”

The poll found that 20 percent of male Muslim respondents and 28 percent of female Muslim respondents were in favour of the face veil, the niqab, and of the burqa which covers both face and body.

Another 60 percent said they were in favour of letting girls and women wear a head scarf at schools and universities which is forbidden at France’s secular public institutions.

Deadly attacks by Islamist militants, including bombings and shootings in Paris which killed 130 people last November and a truck attack in Nice killing more than 80 people in July, have raised tensions between communities in France.

French Muslim leaders said last month that decisions taken by some municipal authorities to ban the body-covering swimwear the burkini could lead to further stigmatisation of Muslims.

The Ifop poll contradicted previous estimates which said Muslims made up to 10 percent of France’s population of some 65 million. It said Muslims represented 5.6 percent of the country’s citizens aged 15 and over and 10 percent of under 25s. It said 84 percent of France’s Muslims were under 50.

It can be difficult to establish the religious background of French citizens because the country’s secular laws forbid the collection of data on religion and ethnicity.

There are also many people who may be of Muslim descent, but do not necessarily consider themselves Muslims.

The poll, commissioned by the think tank Institut Montaigne, was conducted by phone between April 13 and May 23 among 1,029 people aged 15 and older who were of Muslim faith or culture, extracted from a sample of 15,459 people.”

    • One in four French Muslims support full-face veil: poll (thelocal, Sep 18, 2016)
      http://bit.ly/2cUFqOA

“Around one in four French Muslims, mostly young people, support an ultra-conservative form of Islam, including the wearing of the full-face veil, but the vast majority accept France’s strict secular laws, a study showed Sunday.

The Ifop survey carried out for a major study of French Muslims by Institut Montaigne, a liberal think-tank, showed that the vast majority of people who identify as Muslim accept curbs on religion in public.

But 60 percent considered girls should nonetheless be allowed to wear the headscarf in school, 12 years after it and other religious symbols were banished from the classroom, the survey published in Le Journal du Dimanche weekly showed.

And around one in four — 24 percent — supported the wearing of the burqa and niqab, the full-face veils that were banned in public places in 2010.

The survey of 1,029 people aims to inform the government’s plans to overhaul French Muslim bodies in the wake of several jihadist attacks, most of them the work of French extremists.

It was carried out between April 13 and May 23, before this summer’s furore over the banning by several towns of the full-body burkini swimsuit, which has made Islam a hot-button topic eight months before the next presidential election.

Institut Montaigne’s report grouped French Muslims into three categories: “completely secular”, devout but accepting restrictions on religion in the public domain, and a more reactionary group that uses Islam for the purposes of “revolt”.

Those in the secular category, which made up 46 percent of the total, did not reject Islam but demonstrated their religious feeling mainly by eating halal meat.

The second group (25 percent) was “proudly Muslim” and wanted a greater role for religion in the workplace but opposed the burqa and polygamy.

Most “problematic”, according to the report, was the third group which was composed of “mostly young, low-skilled people with low levels of participation in the labour market” living on the outskirts of cities.

“Islam is for them a way of asserting themselves on the margins of French society,” the report found, noting that most people in that group approved of the burqa and of polygamy, which is permitted by Islam.

Around half of under-25s fell into this category, compared to around 20 percent of over-40s, revealing a generational gap between moderates and younger hardliners, the report found.

Two issues — the right to wear the headscarf and access to halal food — emerged as enjoying support among all Muslims, whether practising or not. Two-thirds of all respondents said they supported the right to wear the headscarf, even though two-thirds of the women questioned said they themselves did not wear the garment.

And eight out of ten people believed that public school canteens should offer halal options — a demand that has been rejected by several town councils who see it an encroachment of religion in schools.

The survey also showed that, contrary to commonly-held perceptions, French Muslim women are more conservative than men on some issues. Only 56 percent of women said they would attend a mixed swimming pool, compared with 75 percent of men.

The study also showed that, while most respondents consider their religion is important to them, most do not regularly attend a mosque, with only 29 percent of attending a mosque on a weekly basis.

France has Western Europe’s biggest Muslim population. The study estimated the number of French people identifying as Muslim to be far smaller than often thought, at around 3.7 million, or 5.6 percent of the population of over 15 years.”

  16. GERMANY – Why was migrant rapist only jailed for two years? Fury at soft sentence for toddler attack

OUTRAGE is growing in Germany over the mild punishment handed down to an Afghan refugee who raped a migrant toddler in the asylum home where they both lived

Jama B., 22, showed no remorse as he was sentenced to just two years and four months behind bars on the milder charge of sexual abuse of the four-year-old boy at the centre in Boostedt, Schleswig-Holstein.

The toddler, from Iraq, was lured into a toilet cubicle at the home in March this year. The court heard the Afghani forced his penis into the child’s mouth.

Afterwards the distraught youngster was returned to his father with his trousers down around his ankles.

During the trial Jama B. boasted: “I’m a superstar in Afghanistan, a singer.”

He claimed no-one could prove what was alleged, admitted he drank alcohol before the crime but showed no remorse whatsoever during the proceedings on Thursday last week at the court in Kiel.

A second man, Sohrab S., 29, was alleged to have stood guard outside the toilet during the boy’s ordeal but he was acquitted for lack of evidence.

“The incredible verdict of the prosecutor and the court,” stormed the popular Bild am Sonntag newspaper.

“This is the verdict that shames you all.”

Child protection groups demanded to know why Jama B. was not charged with rape.

Prosecutor Axel Bieler said: “Rape charges are brought only if it was enforced with violence or the threat of violence. We do not assume this was the case.

“Therefore he was indicted on a charge of serious sexual abuse. The penalty doesn’t matter – it is between two and 15 years in jail for rape or for serious sexual abuse.”

Karin Witt, a spokeswoman of the Kiel court Karin Witt, said: “The court found no reasons for an increased penalty, such as for example a criminal record for the accused.

“The fact that he was under the influence of alcohol and the high sensitivity towards detention of the offender were both factors in the sentence.

“He is young, knows no German and has already been attacked in pre-trial detention. The victim has also dealt well with the experience of what happened to him and there are no serious consequences to be expected.”

Judge Stefan Becker refused to comment on the verdict but Peter Boysen, the lawyer who represented the family of the child, said: “it was a one-off act that did not take very long and hopefully will not have harmful long-term effects on the child.

“Therefore there is no reason to complain, even if the sentence could have been maybe half a year longer. I have not therefore advised the parents to appeal against the verdict. He’s better again, the boy, but is still in therapeutic treatment of a child and adolescent psychiatrist.

“The family is glad to be out of the home. Today they live in another home in northern Germany.”

In Germany no verdict is final for around a month after the verdict – a time period in which prosecutors and defence can appeal any court decision. It is unclear whether the prosecution will demand a higher penalty.

But what is certain is that Jama B. will not receive any asylum hearing and will be deported to his homeland after his prison term is served.

Child sex abuse in asylum centres, along with the rape and molestation of women, has been on the increase in Germany over recent months.

Critics have said more needs to be done to protect women and children in the centres where they are housed.

  17. MEMRI TV – Oh Allah, Blow Up the Capitals and Planes of U.S and Russia – Sheikh Muhammad Ayed

Palestinian Cleric Abdallah Ayed in an Al-Aqsa Mosque Address: Oh Allah, Blow Up the Capitals and Planes of U.S. and Russia
In an address delivered at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Muhammad ‘Ayed, known as “Abu Abdallah,” said that one day, “the call to prayer will be heard from on top of the White House and from the red palace of the Kremlin in Moscow.” Abu Abdallah prayed: “Oh Allah, blow up their capital cities and their planes, pulverize their ships, and kill their soldiers. Oh Allah, we ask You to subjugate them and burn them…” The address was posted on the Internet on September 14, 2016.

  18. Latino activist who slammed Trump for calling some Mexicans rapists charged with rape

    Karma is a rape victim!

Anti-American activist Tony Yapias — director of Proyecto Latino de Utah, an advocacy group for illegal aliens, and prominent Hillary Clinton supporter — has been charged with (wait for it!) first-degree rape in Utah.

What makes this a headline story is his attacks on GOP nominee Donald Trump for characterizing some Mexicans as rapists and murderers. Now Yapias finds himself in the slammer, facing charges of rape as well as misdemeanor tampering with evidence.

  19. Dallas police officer files lawsuit accusing Black Lives Matter of inciting anti-cop violence

The irony that two Dallas police officers were murdered July 7 by a gunman harboring anti-police sentiments while guarding a Black Lives Matter demonstration has not been lost on one police sergeant.

Sgt. Demetrick Pennie, president of the Dallas Fallen Officer Foundation, filed a complaint against the movement and several so-called “black community leaders” in federal court Friday. The suit blames the named defendants of race riots and violence against police officers.

According to The Dallas Morning News:

The listed defendants include … the Rev. Al Sharpton, Louis Farrahkan, George Soros, the New Black Panthers Party and even President Barack Obama and presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

According to the suit, the defendants “have repeatedly incited their supporters and others to engage in threats of and attacks to cause serious bodily injury or death upon police officers and other law enforcement persons of all races and ethnicities.”

  20. 37 injured in day of unrelated, intentional explosion attacks (1 non-terror) and Allah-involved stabbings

At this point, it seems pretty far-fetched to imagine that what we’ve got going is not a terror rampage. Set aside for a moment whether you like other people’s assumptions about who’s behind these attacks, and just ask yourself: is it really likely that for no common reason, pipe bombs were found planted in New Jersey, with one exploding; pressure-cooker devices were planted in Manhattan, with one exploding; and a stabbing rampage was launched at a mall in St. Cloud, Minnesota — all on 17 September?

Strangely, a chorus of special pleading is rising against the most sensible conclusion: that these events are likely to have been related in some way, even if it was only by ideological motivation.

In this determinedly neutral spirit, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, whose city absorbed the lion’s share of the injured on Saturday, refused to call it terrorism when a device was detonated in a dumpster in a crowded area of Lower Manhattan.

  21. Germany: Right-wing protesters march against refugees in Bautzen

Protesters marched against refugees in the city of Bautzen on Sunday, following clashes which erupted between around 20 refugees and 80 locals, mostly from far-right political groups on Wednesday.

Around 200 protesters marched through the city under the slogan “migration stop.” Police accompanied the protest following rising tensions between the locals and refugees.

On September 14, 100 officers were deployed to diffuse the situation when locals and refugees hurled bottles at each other. Earlier in the year a local Bautzen refugee home was subject to an arson attack.

  22. Debate Rules Being Set by Hillary Donors

Campaign contributions from ‘bipartisan’ debate commissioners given exclusively to Clinton

(Lifezette) – The men and women who run the supposedly “nonpartisan” Commission on Presidential Debates have put their money where their mouths are — and it all has gone to Democrat Hillary Clinton.

The amount of money is small by the standards of a modern presidential campaign, but it is one-sided. A pair of Ph.D. candidates at Stanford University examined campaign finance reports and found that all of the $5,650 in contributions that commission members have made to presidential candidates during this election season have gone to Clinton.

Republican Donald Trump, who will meet Clinton in the first debate a week from Monday, received no donations from debate commission members. Green Party nominee Jill Stein and Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson, who both learned Friday that they will be shut out of the first debate, also received nothing.

Kevin Zeese, an adviser to the Stein campaign, told LifeZette the contributions are further evidence of a bipartisan conspiracy to rig the electoral system against third-party alternatives. And the fact that Clinton scooped up all of the contributions made by commission members this year fits with the fact that she has won support not only from her own party but many Establishment figures in the Republican Party, as well.

  23. The “Great Turkish Purge”: Guilty Without Trial

In the twelve days ending on July 2, 1934 Germany saw the “Röhm Putsch,” a purge in which the Nazi regime carried out political executions in order to consolidate Hitler’s absolute hold on power. Hitler moved against the Sturmabteilung (SA), the Nazis’ own paramilitary group; hundreds were killed. The regime did not limit itself to a purge of the SA.

Having already imprisoned social democrats and communists, Hitler used the “Röhm Putsch” to move against conservatives. More killings followed, including Kurt von Schleicher, Hitler’s predecessor as Chancellor, and von Schleicher’s wife. The Gestapo also murdered several leaders of the disbanded Catholic Center Party.

Just a few years later, the Soviets’ own purge would be called Yezhovshchina (“Times of Yezhov”), after Nikolai Yezhov, head of the Soviet secret police. From 1936 until 1953, Yezhovshchina not only meant being expelled from the party; it came to mean almost certain arrest, imprisonment, and often execution.

The purge, in general, was Stalin’s effort to eliminate past and potential opposition groups. Hundreds of thousands of victims faced charges of political crimes such as espionage, sabotage, anti-Soviet agitation, and conspiracies to prepare uprisings and coups. Most victims were quickly executed by gunfire or sent to the Gulag labor camps, where many died of starvation, disease, exposure and overwork.

Several decades later, the Turks are luckier: no Gestapo, no executions, no summary killings and no labor camps. But the “Great Turkish Purge” brings tragic misfortunes to millions of Turks who are suspected of having allied with Fethullah Gulen, once President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s best political ally, now his worst enemy and the prime suspect behind the failed coup of July 15. Gulen, in self-exile in the United States since 1999, is an Islamic preacher believed to have millions of loyalists in Turkey and more than 150 other countries, where he runs schools and charity work.

  25. Turkish police detain 40 over links with Islamic State – Anadolu

Turkish counter-terror police detained 40 foreign nationals in raids in Istanbul over their suspected links with Islamic State, Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency reported on Sunday.

Police carried out simultaneous raids to 23 addresses in Istanbul’s conservative Fatih district detaining suspects from Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq and Azerbaijan, Anadolu said.

Some suspects are identified as having gone to the conflict areas inside Syria several times, Anadolu said.

Turkey has suffered a series of suicide bombings and attacks by Islamic State and Kurdish militants over the past year. It launched its first major military incursion into Syria last month to push jihadists away from its border and prevent Kurdish fighters from seizing territory as they retreated.

Thousands of foreign fighters from countries including Turkey, Britain, Europe and the United States have joined the Islamist militants in their self-proclaimed caliphate in recent years, many of them passing through Turkey.

Ankara has since launched a crackdown on the networks facilitating their passage.

At least seven suspected suicide bombings across Turkey since July 2015, which have killed more than 250 people, have been blamed on Islamic State.

A network of suspected Turkish Islamic State militants is responsible for at least two of the attacks, Turkish prosecutors have said in legal documents, while foreign members of the group were accused of being behind the suicide bombing at Istanbul Ataturk airport in June.

  26. Huma Abedin to be Clinton’s Secretary of State, Say Wiki-leaked Emails

As President, Hillary Clinton will appoint Huma Abedin as Secretary of State. This according to leaked e mails between Abedin, Mrs. Clinton, and Clinton’s former chief of staff Cheryl Mills.

Abedin, 40, would be the first Moslem Secretary of State, and One of the Youngest Ever. […]

[…]Despite having grown up in different countries, Abedin and Clinton have a lot more in common then husbands with a history of philandering. It makes sense that Clinton would want to appoint Abedin to her old job leading the State Department. Secretary of State is third in line to the president, under the US Constitution. It also makes sense that Clinton would want her right hand woman to back up herself and Vice President Tim Kaine in that way as well.

[…]Abedin was born on July 28, 1976. At the age of two, she moved with her family to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where she was raised and lived until returning to the United States for college. Abedin traveled frequently during her childhood and teenage years and attended a British girls’ school.

Both of her parents were educators. Her father, born in New Delhi, India, on April 2, 1928, was an Islamic and Middle Eastern scholar of Indian descent, who received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, and then in 1978 founded the Institute of Muslim Minority Affairs, an organization devoted to the study of Muslim communities in non-Muslim societies around the world. In 1979 he founded the Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs, which his wife took over after his death; his daughter Huma was listed as an associate editor in 1996–2008.

Her mother, born in India (now Pakistan after British Partition), also received her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, and is currently an associate professor of sociology and dean at Dar Al-Hekma College in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

At age 18 Abedin entered George Washington University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree/. As a teenager, she aspired to be a journalist like her role model Christiane Amanpour, and wanted to work in the White House press office.

  27. GERMANY – BERLIN – Merkel party routed in Berlin polls as right-wing AfD gains

Berlin (AFP) – German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s party suffered a historic loss in Berlin state elections Sunday while the right-wing populist AfD gained fresh support, riding a wave of popular anger over her open-door refugee policy.

The anti-Islam Alternative for Germany party won around 14 percent, according to public broadcasters’ projections, in the capital which has long prided itself on being a hip, diverse and multicultural city.

The strong AfD result, thanks to support especially in the vast tower block districts in Berlin’s former communist east, meant it has now won opposition seats in ten of Germany’s 16 states, a year ahead of national elections.

Merkel’s centre-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) won only 17.5 percent — its worst post-war result in the city, before or after the 1989 fall of the Berlin Wall — likely spelling the end of its term as junior coalition partner to the Social Democrats (SPD), who won around 22 percent.

The election in the chronically indebted city-state of 3.5 million people was dominated by local issues including poor public services, crumbling school buildings, late trains and a housing shortage, as well as problems in coping with the migrant influx.

The biggest EU economy took in one million asylum seekers last year, and over 70,000 of them came to Berlin, with thousands still housed in the cavernous hangars of the Nazi-built former Tempelhof airport, once the hub for the Cold War-era Berlin airlift.

Berlin’s SPD Mayor Michael Mueller had dramatically warned before the polls that a strong AfD result would be “seen throughout the world as a sign of the resurgence of the right and of Nazis in Germany”.

    – ‘Zero to double-digits’ –

The vote marked another milestone for the upstart AfD, which has campaigned on a xenophobic platform, similar to France’s National Front or far-right populists in Austria and the Netherlands.

“From zero to double-digits, that’s a first for Berlin,” cheered the AfD’s top Berlin candidate, Georg Pazderski, predicting that the electorate would next year kick out Merkel’s national right-left grand coalition.

“We’ve arrived in the capital,” said the party’s co-leader Beatrix von Storch, hailing the “huge success”.

Merkel’s CDU, which has a national majority, in Berlin has served as junior coalition partner to Mueller’s SPD, traditionally the strongest party in the city .

Mueller has rejected a new coalition with the CDU and was seen likely to team up with the ecologist Greens and the far-left Die Linke party, each of whom scored around 15 percent.

Such a “red-red-green” coalition, its members hope, could one day be replicated at the national level.

Merkel meanwhile — after suffering a stinging loss to the AfD in another regional poll two weeks ago — will face further pressure “to explain her political strategy”, Gero Neugebauer of Berlin’s Free University told the Handelsblatt business daily.

Another analyst, Kai Arzheimer of Mainz University, also predicted tensions would rise between the CDU and its Bavarian sister party the CSU, but he stressed the alliance was unlikely to change its top candidate, Merkel.

“To ask this question one year before federal elections would be suicidal, especially since in the CDU there is no credible successor,” he said.

The CSU’s Bavarian Finance Minister Markus Soeder nonetheless launched a broadside, charging that Merkel’s government must “regain citizens’ support in the refugee question and finally strictly limit immigration and get a handle on the security problems.”

    – ‘Poor but sexy’ –

In Berlin — a city famously dubbed “poor but sexy” by its previous mayor, bon vivant Klaus Wowereit — the election campaign was dominated not just by migrant policies but also widespread frustration over poor public services.

With little industry and an above-national average jobless rate of 10 percent, Europe’s techno party capital is often seen as an amusingly chaotic exception in otherwise orderly and punctual Germany.

Berlin became a national laughing stock for a grand airport project that is now five years behind schedule and three times over budget.

In another debacle, thousands of refugees were left waiting for days and weeks last year at Berlin’s then hopelessly overwhelmed Lageso central migrant registration centre, with many forced to sleep in the dirt outside.

All the problems have helped fuel voter distrust of Germany’s mainstream “people’s parties” who have governed Berlin in an unhappy coalition, the SPD and CDU.

The CDU’s top Berlin candidate, Frank Henkel, called the vote result “a black day for the people’s parties” and said “it is very alarming when fringe parties like the AfD or Die Linke between them attract a quarter of the vote.”

“Berlin is becoming ever more fragmented,” said Lothar Probst of Bremen University, speaking on Phoenix TV, as the SPD, despite winning, also booked its worst post-war result.

“The parties at the centre, the mainstream parties, have lost a lot of ground, spelling a shifting dynamic in the political landscape … What we’re seeing is the erosion of support for the big ‘people’s parties’.”

Germany: AFD celebrate gains in Berlin elections

    • Germany: Vice-Chancellor thanks everyone that did not vote right-wing

  28. Ak?nc?: No Cyprus deal if no rotating presidency (hurriyetdailynews, Sep 18, 2016)
    http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/akinci-no-cyprus-deal-if-no-rotating-presidency.aspx?pageID=238&nID=103999&NewsCatID=351

“If there is no rotating presidency between the two founding states of a perspective Cypriot federal state, for which accelerated negotiations are being conducted, there will be no peace deal, the leader of the Turkish Cypriots on the eastern Mediterranean island has said.

“A rotating presidency is one of the indispensable topics for the equality of the Turkish Cypriot nation. If the Greek Cypriot side says that ‘the rotating presidency will never be a parameter of the solution,’ then this means there will be no deal,” Turkish Cypriot President Mustafa Ak?nc? said on Sept. 18 in Nicosia, freshly out of a marathon of eight meetings with Greek Cypriot counterpart Nicos Anastasiades and the U.N.’s special advisor to the island, Espen Barth Eide.

“This means that the Turkish Cypriot leader will in no case sign this [deal] and put it before his nation.”

Ak?nc? said that the discussion could only be held on “which intervals the rotating presidency can be implemented.”

“But if in principal the point of ‘a rotating presidency will not happen’ continues, this means there will be no deal,” Ak?nc? reiterated.

The half-century-old Cyprus problem erupted after the island was granted independence from Britain in 1960, soon followed by an outbreak of inter-communal clashes in 1963. The island was ethnically divided between a Greek south and a Turkish north when the Turkish military intervened in 1974 under the terms of the 1960 Treaty of Guarantee after diplomacy failed to end unrest on the island and a coup on the island aimed at unification with Greece…”

  29. The Independent – news -people- Amal Clooney and Boris Johnson to launch anti-Isis campaign

Amal Clooney and Boris Johnson are set to unveil a plan to begin collecting evidence of ISIS’s “abhorrent crimes”.

The pair are widely expected to urge world governments, NGO’s and other organisations to join the campaign for justice for the victims of the so-called ‘Islamic State’ at the UN in New York tomorrow.

The meeting comes only days after Ms Clooney addressed the UN and spoke of how she was “ashamed” of the organisation’s failure to “to prevent or even punish” Isis for the crimes it had inflicted upon the Yazidi community in Iraq and Syria.

In an address, introducing Nadia Murad – a Yazidi woman who was captured by Isis and trafficked as a sex slave and is now a UN ambassador for the Dignity of Survivors of Human Trafficking for the UN’s Drugs and Crime body – Ms Clooney spoke of how she was “ashamed” that “not a single member of Isis has been prosecuted in a court anywhere in the world for crimes committed against the Yazidi” people.

[…]Speaking ahead of the meeting which will be attended by the Foreign Minister’s of Iraq and Belgium, as well as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr Johnson said: “We have united to defeat Daesh, now we must unite to bring them to justice. That needs to include looking at ways for the UN to support the vital task of gathering evidence about their abhorrent crimes.

“The global campaign will seek justice for all Daesh’s victims, bringing the international community together in defiance of Daesh’s efforts to stoke division and hate”

  30. WASHington POST
Among Democrats, deep concern about Clinton’s Hispanic strategy

Lagging support among Hispanic voters for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and congressional candidates in crucial races has stoked deep concern that the party and the presidential campaign are doing too little to galvanize a key constituency.

While Clinton holds a significant lead over Republican rival Donald Trump in every poll of Hispanic voters, less clear is whether these voters will turn out in numbers that Democrats are counting on to win. Clinton trails President Obama’s 2012 performance in several Latino-rich states, including Florida, Nevada, Colorado and Arizona. In those same states, on which Democrats’ prospects of retaking the Senate hinge, some down-ballot Democrats remain unknown to many Hispanic voters.

That reality has prompted a flurry of criticism of Clinton’s and the party’s Hispanic strategies. Despite a uniquely favorable environment with Trump’s repeated attacks on undocumented immigrants, Democrats are increasingly worried that the opportunity is slipping away to meet a long-standing party goal of marshaling the nation’s growing Hispanic population into a permanent electoral force. The concerns are compounded by Trump’s recent surge in several battleground states.

  31. The liberal establishment’s Clinton obsession is blowing up in its face

Hey, Democrats, where were you? Hey liberals, where were you? The potential train wreck that is the Hillary Clinton candidacy didn’t just become evident last week when ill-chosen words about 25 million “deplorables” and a public near-collapse tanked her polls to make this a tied presidential race.

No, Democrats and liberals, the possibility of Hillary crashing and burning was there from the outset of her candidacy. And yet you stood there and let it happen.

You Democrats and liberals who did not “feel the Bern” but desperately wanted a Democratic president to succeed Barack Obama — you did nothing to prevent the potential cataclysm that is upon you now. Instead, you’ve spent more than a year chortling at Republican failings, expressing disgust at the rise of Donald Trump and convincing yourselves that your ideological tendency is on the cusp of multigenerational rule in the United States.

And in the process, you failed to do your due diligence on your own candidate — which means you failed as a party, you failed as a movement and you failed as citizens.

    http://nypost.com/2016/09/17/the-liberal-establishments-clinton-obsession-is-blowing-up-in-its-face/

    • It wasn’t just the Dems that failed, the Repubs also allowed a self proclaimed elite to take over the party, the self proclaimed elites in both parties have grown so arrogant they think they can ignore what the citizens what and do whatever suits their fancy. This is what happened (to a much larger and harsher degree) in France just before the French Revolution.
