  1. Australia backpacker murder: Man charged over Mia Ayliffe-Chung death (BBC, Aug 25, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-37182177

“A man has been charged with the murder of British backpacker Mia Ayliffe-Chung at a hostel in Australia.

Queensland Police Service earlier named the suspected murderer as 29-year-old Frenchman Smail Ayad.

He is also charged with two counts of attempted murder, 12 counts of serious assault and one count of serious animal cruelty….”

    • “…Supt Ray Rohweder, regional crime co-ordinator in the Northern Region, confirmed a 30-year-old British man, Tom Jackson, who was critically injured in the attack, had tried to save Miss Ayliffe-Chung after she was stabbed at Shelley’s Backpackers in Home Hill.”
“Of his intervention, Mr Rohweder said: “His subsequent actions were absolutely fantastic. I have no doubt that his actions on that day, as completely selfless as they were, led to the injuries he now has.””

This is how dumbass can this regional crime co-ordinator, ‘have your got your fair-share of crime’ be? There are no self-inflicted injuries caused by attempting to stop a criminal. Period.

This is Socialist-speak to inform that any actions performed by individuals in protecting each other will not be supported by the state apparatus. Leave it to the police-army or forensics. Move along cattle.

La décision est attendue vendredi à 15H00.

      • France: Sarkozy calls for ‘burkini’ ban in first presidential campaign rally

Former president of France Nicolas Sarkozy demanded a ban on the full-bodied swimsuit, nicknamed a ‘burkini,’ which he called a provocation to the French, as he held the first meeting for his presidential campaign, in Chateaurenard, Thursday.

Sarkozy made several references to the recent terror attacks in France. He said that “War is war. We need to combat and crush our enemies, put them out of battle. Fear has to change sides.”

SOT Nicolas Sarkozy, presidential candidate (French): “The Republic needs to be strong. I demand a law to prohibit it [burkini] on the whole territory of the Republic. We cannot, dear Jean-Claude, leave the mayors alone in front of this provocation.”

    • AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL – France: Upholding burkini ban risks giving green light for abuse of women and girls

Failure to overturn the ban on the burkini would be a missed opportunity to end an assault on women’s freedoms of expression and religion as well as the right to non-discrimination, said Amnesty International as France’s highest administrative court considers a challenge to the ban.

“The case being considered today offers an opportunity for the French justice system to overturn a discriminatory ban that is fuelled by and is fuelling prejudice and intolerance,” said John Dalhuisen, Amnesty International’s Europe Director.

“French authorities should drop the pretence that these measures do anything to protect the rights of women. Rather, invasive and discriminatory measures such as these restrict women’s choices, violate their rights and lead to abuse.”

In recent weeks several French mayors have adopted local decrees regulating the use of beachwear. Some of the decrees have referenced manifestly specious security, hygiene and public order concerns as justification and others have even purported to be aimed at protecting women’s rights. However, the rhetoric around their adoption has universally focused on the negative stereotyping of an already stigmatized minority.

“These bans do nothing to increase public safety, but do a lot to promote public humiliation. Not only are such bans in and of themselves discriminatory, but as we have seen, their enforcement leads to abuses and the degrading treatment of Muslim women and girls,” said John Dalhuisen.

If the French authorities were genuinely committed to protecting freedom of expression and women’s rights these abusive bans would be immediately and unconditionally lifted.”

      Background

The State Council is currently considering an appeal against a decision by a lower court upholding a ban on the full-body swimsuit by the town of Villeneuve-Loubet.

The ruling will set a legal precedent for municipalities across the country.

Many local decrees ban the wearing of any form of beachwear that is contrary to hygiene and to the principle of “laicité”. Some of the decrees also state that, in view of the existing terrorist threat, wearing specific forms of dress that ostensibly manifest religious beliefs could breach public order.

The bans on burkinis are the latest in a series of restrictive laws against cultural or religious clothing in France. In 2004 a law on religious symbols banned any visible religious symbols in state schools. In 2011, a law banned the concealment of the face in public spaces.

      • Once again a call for the west to tolerate the intolerance of the Moslems. Tolerance is a two way street, if they want tolerance from they must stop trying to force us to abandon our culture.

    • CNN Burkini bans: Why France is giving Iran a run for its money

Editor’s Note: Ruwan Rujouleh is a Middle East analyst at the Centre on Religion and Geopolitics, an initiative of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation. The views expressed in this piece are solely those of the author.

If you look at the headlines coming out of France, you might conclude that the country’s famous brand of “laicite,” or secularism, is now being defended by a theocracy that would give Iran a run for its money.

Pictures of a Muslim woman surrounded by armed police on a beach in Nice have rightly caused an outcry. The images show the condescending way law enforcement officers forced the women to undress, while her children watched.

      France abandons Western values

France seems to have completely turned against Western liberal values — and there’s a danger that France no longer looks any different from Iran or any other theocratic state, where religious police patrol the streets, monitoring women in public places, and checking whether or not they are following the rules.

The only difference is that France is suffocating individual freedoms in the name of “protecting secularism,” while Iran and others do so to “protect religious identity.” Both have a distinct absence of liberal pluralism that the Western world has so far taken for granted. Extreme secularism in France looks no different to extreme Shia ideology in Iran.

As an American Muslim citizen raised in Syria, I am in shocked by these pictures. Growing up in Damascus, life used to offer a cultural pluralism that most now take for granted. Throughout the Middle East, people look at countries in the West in awe, seeing laws that are enacted to guarantee an individual’s right to practice their faith and live freely without chains or fear.

A turning point in the West?

But we are at a fundamental crossroads — one that is causing those of us who care about upholding these values to worry that this may no longer be the case in the future.
This isn’t a problem only in France and Iran. Left and right, we’re seeing a growing polarization of the political sphere, from Donald Trump in America to Jeremy Corbyn in Britain.

This move toward the extremities should be cause for concern for all those who want to uphold the liberal, centrist values that the West has historically fought for. Not purely because illiberalism is at odds with our nature, but because if we choose to allow this culture to creep into our political life, incidents like what happened to an innocent Muslim French citizen Tuesday could become the norm.

‘Don’t give illiberal populism space to breathe’

If we give these sorts of populist “movements” the space to flourish, the Western millennial generation will be forced to spend their adult lives living in an atmosphere the Western world is no longer accustomed to.

This is a generation who’ve rightly grown up taking Western values for granted. As children they were told that they should live and let live, to appreciate and thrive on the intrinsic differences that some seek to divide us on.

You can see that in the way young people overwhelmingly voted in favor of staying in the European Union. It may sound trite, but they want to be able to enjoy the beach in peace, whatever they are wearing.

We’ve advanced beyond illiberalism, beyond accepting hate and division as a way of life, beyond the insecurity that drives such actions.
The answer has to be a revived, renewed political center as the only political thought capable of owning and enhancing these values. The alternative allows extreme illiberal populism the space to create the type of atmosphere that will lead to more incidents like we’ve seen in Nice.

      • Once again the left in either an incredibly stupid or incredibly short shighted (to say nothing of what is possibly treason) call for the west to commit suicide by tolerating the intolerance of our enemies. The author says he can’t see the difference between secular France and theologically run Iran. Being a member of the leftest theological school he probably can’t, the rest of us can but we do have trouble seeing an great difference from radical leftist and fundamentalist Islam of either the Shia or Sunni varitly.

Just not as clever as they think they are.

      • “Failure to overturn the ban on the burkini would be a missed opportunity to end an assault on women’s freedoms of expression and religion” ?

Uh, what now? That´s a 180. Now wearing a burka(Burkini -whatever) is freedom for a woman…what about this:
        http://www.igfm.de/fileadmin/_processed_/csm_Burka_Muell_IGFM_01_fa24120326.jpg

No “moderate” muslim woman wears a head or full body covering -only the radicals.

The only reason they wear one is to avoid being raped, because without one, a woman is considered a prostitute/sex slave provoking a muslim man to have sex with her by her uncovered body.

Liberal Feminists burned bras in the 70s for emancipation and now stand up for full body bags and call it freedom. Yep, make perfect sense if you are a mentally ill LIBERAL/PROGRESSIVE nut case.

George Soros’s Open Society Foundations is anticipating an increase in “migration pressures in the coming decades” due in part to “globalization,” according to a leaked memo outlining a proposed strategy for successfully influencing immigration policy.

The memo, which was published by “hacktivist” group DCLeaks, contains a proposed strategy for OSF’s International Migration Initiative, which aims to influence global immigration policy. The proposed strategy previews the organization’s work from 2016 to 2019.

  3. How the super-rich are making their homes ‘invisible’

Privacy is perhaps the greatest luxury anyone can buy, hence the trend for properties hidden from prying eyes and online searches

There is nothing remarkable about 23726 Long Valley Road — except that it does not appear to exist.

Estate agents’ advertisements show that the high-end Californian home — six bedrooms, pizza oven, pool — is situated in a gated community on the edge of Los Angeles. Yet prospective buyers searching online to check out the neighbourhood are wasting their time — none of the area’s 648 homes appear on Google Street View.

  4. Iranian patrol boats harass destroyer USS Nitze

Once again, Iranian patrol boats have operated close to a U.S. warship in an unsafe manner.

This time, four armed boats of the IRGCN (the Revolutionary Guard Navy) approached USS Nitze (DDG-94), an Arleigh Burke-class Aegis destroyer, in international waters in the Persian Gulf, between the coast of the UAE and the Iranian island of Abu Musa.

The Navy posted a short video online from the incident, which occurred on 23 August. The video is below. The incident was described to Reuters by an unnamed U.S. defense official:

The official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said on Wednesday that two of the Iranian vessels came within 300 yards of the USS Nitze in an incident that was “unsafe and unprofessional.”

The vessels harassed the destroyer by “conducting a high speed intercept and closing within a short distance of Nitze, despite repeated warnings,” the official said. …

The U.S. defense official said that in Tuesday’s incident the USS Nitze tried to communicate with the Iranian vessels 12 times, but received no response. It also fired 10 flares in the direction of two of the Iranian vessels.

“The Iranian high rate of closure… created a dangerous, harassing situation that could have led to further escalation, including additional defensive measures by Nitze,” the official said.

USS Nitze had to change course in order to distance itself from the Iranian vessels, the official said, adding that the incident could have led to a diplomatic protest, but the United States does not have diplomatic relations with Iran.

  5. Video from a few months back when the Iranians harrassed the USS Harry S Truman and fired rockets parallel to its course.

  6. The carrier harassment was in December, also on July 26 of this year they harassed the USS New Orleans.

The frequency of the harassment is incrfeasing and they are coming closer each time. The rockets were fired when the carrier was traveling into the gulf when they could be fired to land in Iranian waters thus not upsetting Omen.

I still say Iran wants the US to sink one or more of the harassing boats as an excuse to attack all US ships. I don’t know if the increased harassment means that Iran has nukes and is getting ready to use them? If they are counting on Russia to back them in a confrontation? Of both.

  7. Palestinians: The “Mountain of Fire” Erupts Against Abbas

Hours after his security officers lynched a detainee, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas urged Palestinian businessmen living abroad to support the Palestinian economy by investing in the Palestinian territories. The Palestinian Authority (PA), he asserted, was “working to provide security and safety to encourage investment.”

According to Abbas, “The Palestinian territories are living in a state of security stability, which we are working to provide for residents and investors alike by enforcing the rule of law and enhancing transparency and accountability.”

It must be nice to create your own reality, especially if your true reality is that of the 81-year-old Abbas.

In his speech before the businessmen, Abbas neglected any reference to the latest wave of “security chaos” in PA-controlled areas in the West Bank, specifically Nablus, the largest Palestinian city.

Five Palestinians, including two PA police officers, were killed in the worst scenes of internecine violence to hit the West Bank in recent years. Abbas was either playing the businessmen for fools or hoping that they share his deaf and blind state.

The violence in Nablus did not come as a surprise to those who have been monitoring the situation in the West Bank in recent months.

“CLAIMS for asylum in the UK in the first half of this year reached their highest level in over a decade.

Between January and June this year, 36,465 people applied for asylum in Britain, a 41 percent increase on the same period in 2015, which had nearly 26,000 claims.

Nearly one in ten of the would-be refugees were youngsters with unaccompanied children accounting for 3,472 of the total – a 54 percent annual increase.

The last time Britain had such a high number of applications was in 2004, when 39,746 people sought asylum.

Over a million people fleeing wars and conflict in the Middle East, Africa and Asia reached the EU last year in the continent’s biggest migration crisis since World War Two.

Iranians were the biggest group with just under 5,000 claims followed by 3,199 Iraqis, 2,992 from Pakistan, 2,790 Eritreans and 2,690 Afghans. There were also 2,563 from Syria…”

    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/703768/Sarkozy-France-immigration-scathing-attack-EU

“FAMILY reunification for migrants must be suspended until the EU agrees on a solid immigration policy for all member states, said France’s former president Nicolas Sarkozy.

The right-wing politician was speaking ahead of next year’s presidential election where he said the problem had to be tackled.

The former president said: “My aim is to bring back authority and defend the French Republic.”

Mr Sarkozy said that the current situation in France was “deeply grave” and that his country needed someone experienced, energetic, determined, and with authority to help it get back on its feet.

Mr Sarkozy, whose decision to run in next year’s presidential election was announced on Monday, is known for his unyielding stance on immigration, and has made his intention to stop the tide coming into France very clear.

In an interview with Le Figaro yesterday, he said: “If I am named president, France will renegotiate Article 8 of the European Court of Human Rights, which deals with family reunification.

”We need to use our common sense and interpret the rules in light of the current migrant crisis.

“Family reunification was established back in 1976, at a time when there was little unemployment and people had no difficulty integrating into society. “Things have changed. France must suspend this right until the EU comes up with a solid immigration policy for all member states, and does more to protect its border.”

The Republic, he said, must be more demanding when dealing with migrants who come to France in a bid to be granted French citizenship, which allows them to claim state benefits…”

  11. Portugal Asks Baghdad to Lift Immunity for Ambassador’s Sons (abcnews, Aug 25, 2016)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/portugal-asks-baghdad-lift-immunity-ambassadors-sons-41647622

“Portugal’s foreign ministry asked Baghdad on Thursday to lift the diplomatic immunity of the Iraqi ambassador’s teenage sons who are suspected of attempted homicide.

The foreign ministry said in a statement it conveyed the request to the Iraqi charge d’affaires in Lisbon.

The Portuguese attorney-general’s office said in a statement late Wednesday that investigators suspect the ambassador’s twin 17-year-old sons in the brutal beating last week of a 15-year-old Portuguese boy, who spent five days in a coma. He has severe facial and skull fractures. The attorney-general’s office said it wanted the boys’ immunity lifted so they can be interrogated by detectives.

The Iraqi teenagers, sons of Ambassador Saad Mohammed Ridha, have admitted to Portuguese media they assaulted the boy during night-time fighting with local youths in a rural town…”

    • IF they were from a western nation the immunity would be lifted, from Iraq lifting it will be risky for the government, it will give ISIS a major propaganda point. Not lifting it will cause trouble with Spain and maybe, repeat maybe other western nations.

  12. War and Peace in Putin’s Middle East
With America on the sidelines, Israel and the Arabs play a new game.

The Times of Israel reports that, on Tuesday night, “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin…and discussed regional issues and the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.”

It was hardly, of course, their first chat. In June, Netanyahu was in Moscow to meet with Putin. He was there, too, for that purpose in September 2015 and April 2016, and last November they met briefly at the Paris climate conference. Their agenda includes making sure there are no unwanted Israeli-Russian military confrontations over the skies of Syria, as well as the strong Israeli-Russian economic ties.

Meanwhile the Israeli daily Haaretz cites Egyptian media as reporting that “Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi said that…Putin has expressed a willingness to host…Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas for talks in Moscow.”

    What’s going on?

According to other reports, Sunni Arab states—particularly Egypt and Saudi Arabia—want such talks and have been pushing for them. Both countries have close security cooperation with Israel. Egypt has recently warmed up diplomatic ties with a return of its ambassador to Israel and a visit to Israel by its foreign minister early in July. The Saudis, for their part, sent an unprecedented delegation to the Jewish state later in July.

As hardly a few days pass without some Islamic terror attack in the West—recently and as of this writing an “Allahu Akbar” shouting Muslim man stabbed a Jew in France and an “Allahu Akbar” screaming Muslim woman ran over two policemen in Canada—the West risks becoming desensitized to and seeing Islamic violence as “just another part of life.”

The words and deeds of Western leaders are not helping. After the Islamic terror attack in Nice, France, where 84 were killed, counterterrorism chief Patrick Calvar said: “Today, France is clearly the most threatened country. The question about the threat is not to know ‘if’ but ‘when’ and ‘where’.” Prime Minister Manuel Valls declared that “Terrorism … is a threat that weighs heavily on France and will continue doing so for a long time.”

As if such resignation wasn’t bad enough, at the memorial event for the 84 Nice victims, Valls declared, “Times have changed and we should learn to live with terrorism.”

Actually, the main thing to change with time in France is its demography. The largest Muslim population of Europe resides there and, in accordance’s with Islam’s Rule of Numbers, is the real reason why France “should learn to live with terrorism.”

More apathy was in the air during the Munich massacre, where a Muslim gunman killed nine.

    • 3 dead in possible crossbow attack in east-end Toronto

Three people were killed in a reported stabbing incident east of downtown Toronto Thursday afternoon and police say a crossbow was found at the scene.

Toronto police officers responded to Lawndale Road, in the Eglinton Avenue East and Markham Road area, just before 1 p.m. for a reported stabbing.

Police initially said on Twitter that officers found two victims without vital signs, but Toronto Paramedic Services confirmed to Global News they treated two males and a female at the scene who were later pronounced dead.

Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu told Global News investigators had recovered a crossbow at the scene, but could not confirm if it was used as a weapon in the incident.

Police said that one person is in custody. A number of the surrounding roads in the area have been closed pending further investigation.

No information has been released on the identities of the person in custody or the deceased.

Three people killed in crossbow shooting in Scarborough Village

Three people are dead and two others have been injured following a daylight incident involving a crossbow in the Scarborough Village area.

Const. David Hopkinson said police and paramedics were called to an address near the corner of Lawndale and Argo roads, northwest of Kingston and Markham roads, sometime before 1 p.m.

He said police arrived to find one man suffering from stab wounds, and two other people who had been shot with a crossbow.

Paramedics later said that two adult males and one adult female were pronounced dead on scene. The nature and severity of injuries to the two other victims are not yet known.

One person has been taken into custody in connection with the case.

Hopkinson said it is too early to say whether the shooting was intentional or accidental.

Homicide detectives have set up a large perimeter and reports form the scene indicate that three homes are part of the investigation so far.

It is not yet clear where exactly the incident took place.

    • Interesting, Yes Turkey needs the US but they need a US that while it is strong is pliant, if Trump wins Turkey will be in the position to play one against the other to get the best deals from each. If Hillary wins she will keep the US weak and Russia is in the catbird seat.

As with most alliances throughout history both sides were using the other and didn’t like or really trust each other. There are a few alliances like the one between the US and Canada, Australia and Britain that are based on mutually shared values and with cultures that are similar enough that people can for the most part move from one to another and feel at home. This is true to a much lesser extent with the other European nations and is not true at all with any Middle Eastern nation except Israel.

The alliances between the US and the Middle Eastern nations (except Israel) are marriages of convenience that are fragile in nature and easily destroyed. The author made the point that Iran doesn’t like or trust Russia, BFD they are using Russia and need them more the Russia needs Iran. For this reason Iran will keep Shiite terrorists from attacking Russian interests in inside Russia. Note how the use of the air bases were (according to Iranian reports) a one time thing but when Russia told Turkey that they could send tank columns into Syria to stop the Kurds rescuing another city Iran changed their mind. Russia will back Iran to an extent which won’t include direct combat with the US (especially if Trump wins) but will include resupply of weapons and other supplies if/when they push the US into open military conflict.

No Russias influence isn’t a great as some people (possibly including myslef) have said but they are in the position that if the next President doesn’t play our crads correctly (or move the counters correctly on the GO Board) they will have the influence that some are already stating.

      • There’s heaps of stuff from Israel. Going every which way. Everything’s so fluid right now.

Rojava’s Sustainability and the PKK’s Regional Strategy
As the Kurds continue to pursue their goal of a contiguous territory in northern Syria, various nonmilitary factors will determine whether their nascent statelet is viable in the long term, including a host of demographic, economic, water, and oil issues.

Although it is still difficult to predict the future of Syria as a whole, the existence of an increasingly autonomous Kurdish region along the country’s northern frontier has become a reality. For now, the boundaries of this “Rojava” remain blurred and might be different from those officially claimed by the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD). Yet the group’s ongoing efforts to expand and merge its cantons reflect a firm commitment to gathering Syria’s Kurds into an economically viable statelet that extends tantalizingly close to the Mediterranean Sea — a prospect that could also advance the goals of its parent organization in Turkey, the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

  15. Beggary gangs work in shifts outside Prophet’s Mosque (saudigazette, Aug 25, 2016)
    http://saudigazette.com.sa/saudi-arabia/beggary-gangs-work-shifts-outside-prophets-mosque/

“MADINAH — The courtyards of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah has witnessed an increase in the number of female beggars who give a bad impression to visitors of the mosque, Al-Madina newspaper reported.

It said a gang of female beggars was spotted panhandling in the mosque’s courtyards at various times of the day and night and they worked in shifts.

Someone working behind the scenes is in charge of fixing their shifts and making transportation arrangements for these women to commute to the mosque. The day shift leaves at sunset and another group of beggars takes their place and they beg throughout the night.

One of the workers at the Prophet’s Mosque said there are gangs of different nationalities that commute women beggars to the courtyards after sunset prayers and then come later to pick them up.

Dr. Ahmed Bin Abdul Jabbar, a university professor, said begging inside the Prophet’s Mosque is not correct religiously because these beggars distract people who come to worship. “They also wear the traditional Saudi clothes, giving the visitors a bad impression about the social status of the natives,” he added.

Ali Bin Al-Ghamdi, director general of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development in Madinah, said their role in combating begging in the region is based on cooperation with the related committees of the Public Security.

“The Public Security is an important pillar in the fight against this phenomenon. Begging is considered a crime under the country’s law,” he said, noting that the number of beggars has decreased over the past two years.”

  16. Stray dogs unleash a reign of terror in neighborhoods (saudigazette, Aug 26, 2016)
    http://saudigazette.com.sa/saudi-arabia/stray-dogs-unleash-reign-terror-neighborhoods/

“STRAY dogs can be seen in many neighborhoods all over the Kingdom, posing great danger to the safety of passerby, especially children. Some children fell victims to rabid dogs or were seriously injured, Al-Riyadh daily reported.

Stray dogs killed a nine-year-old Saudi boy as he was walking toward his relatives’ house in the central province of Qassim last month.

Family members searching for the boy found his blood-covered body in an isolated area in Al-Qawara, 80 km north of Buraidah city, at night, local media reported. Police said the dogs attacked the boy just before he reached his relatives’ house and that parts of his body were ripped off.

Doctors have warned against the danger of dogs and how these animals can transmit contagious diseases.

Nasser Al-Shibani, who lives in Riyadh, says stray dogs have been seen a lot and in large numbers lately, especially around midnight. Concerned authorities must find a way to cull the animals because some of them are rabid.

“We feel constantly worried that our children get bitten by these dogs. I read the other day the story of the kid who was bitten by stray dogs and died on the way to hospital. It is scary. I do not want my child to be the next,” he said.

Al-Shibani called upon the concerned authorities to do something and find a lasting solution to this recurrent problem. The number of stray dogs has been increasing lately and residents of the neighborhood feel as if they are surrounded by a constant danger…”

  17. ‘You are now in Canada’: Anger management ordered for Iranian-born man who attacked wife’s boss

An Iran-born Edmonton man has been ordered to take anger management courses following a “nasty” attack on his wife’s boss stemming from a male co-worker saying hello to her in a mall.

Aadel Moradi, 39, was given a suspended sentence and placed on probation for 18 months on Tuesday in provincial court after pleading guilty to assault charges over what was an apparent clash of cultures.

“This was very nasty,” said Judge Kirk MacDonald, who described the Nov. 6, 2015, incident as a minor assault with “disturbing” undertones.

“You are now in Canada. We do not place restrictions on the way that women live here, unlike in some other countries,” said MacDonald, adding it is “very sad” that Moradi doesn’t see it.

The judge told Moradi — a Kurd who emigrated here from a city near Tehran about 15 years ago — that he had considered sending him to jail, but accepted the joint submission by Crown and defence.

“Just because you think someone has displayed bad manners, getting into a fight is no remedy for that,” said MacDonald.

Crown prosecutor Bethan Franklyn told court that Moradi and his wife had been at a city mall in late October 2015 when one of her co-workers came up to say hello.

Moradi asked the man how he knew his wife, then told him not to talk to her, said Franklyn.

On Nov. 6, Moradi went with his wife to the downtown office where she worked and asked to speak to human resources about the mall incident, said Franklyn.

Court heard he eventually spoke to Ross Undershute, the CEO of the health consulting organization, and stated “No men are allowed to speak to his wife and she can’t speak to any men.”

After Undershute explained that would not be possible, Moradi became irate and refused to leave after being asked to do so.

He tried to kick Undershute, and “clawed and scratched” his face before spitting at his face, said Franklyn. He also unsuccessfully tried to kick, knee, slap and bite Undershute.

Court heard Undershute suffered scratches to his nose and lip.

Franklyn said it was aggravating that the assault happened at a workplace and had domestic undertones. She also called the spitting a “degrading” act.

Defence lawyer Rob Shaigec called the incident “out of character” for Moradi and said his client is “very ashamed” of his behaviour.

Shaigec told court that Moradi, based on his culture and upbringing, had been offended by his wife’s co-worker approaching her in public and speaking to her without first introducing himself to Moradi.

Court heard Moradi and his wife have a six-year-old son and they have recently separated.

While on probation, Moradi must take an anger management course and perform 50 hours of community service. He is also not allowed to go to his wife’s office or to contact Undershute and three other co-workers.

  19. DAILY MAIL – SPAIN – British teenage girl suffers broken nose and her friend taken to hospital after being attacked by ‘gang of French Muslims who tried to grope her’

A group of around 10 French men groped and then punched the women
A British man tried to protect the women at the resort of Puerto Banus
Spanish police arrested one man and are searching for several others

A gang of French Muslims have been accused of assaulting a group of British women holidaymakers at a popular Spanish tourist resort.

One of the women, a 19-year-old from Farnborough in Hampshire, suffered a broken nose after being punched in the face.

A second woman, a 20-year-old from Essex, was taken to hospital semi-conscious with arm and head injuries.

Witnesses described how the men, French-born but of Arabic origin, began to attack the young women in the upmarket resort of Puerto Banus near Marbella after one tried to touch up the teenager who suffered the broken nose.

A 22-year-old man was arrested for assault and three of his friends were taken to a nearby police station where they were lined up in an identity parade.

Police are thought to be trying to identify other men involved in the incident who are said to have fled as officers arrived.

The incident happened just before 6am on Tuesday morning in a road running behind Puerto Banus, named Julio Iglesias Avenue after the veteran crooner.

Police intervened after spotting what a brawl involving 15 people.

Once they separated the two groups, they saw one of the women was bleeding profusely from her nose and another was lying semi-conscious on the ground.

A friend of the injured pair told officers one of the men punched the British teenager in the face after a row turned violent.

The men are understood to have travelled to the area from Seville.

The two British women were taken to a nearby health centre before being taken to the Costa del Sol Hospital for treatment.

They later made a formal complaint to police.

Today a witness took to social media to claim the men had kicked and punched the women as if they were fighting a gang of men.

He said: ‘The group of (French) Arabs gave the English girls a real bashing.

‘One of them wanted to speak to one of the women and the woman wasn’t interested and told him to leave her alone.

‘The son of a bitch began touching her up and putting his hands everywhere you could think of and her friends rushed over to defend her when they saw what was happening.

‘The idiot who started it all then punched the girl in the face and left her on the floor for three minutes with her face smashed in and her nose broken.

‘After that it all kicked off and the men and their friends…began to hit and kick the women as if they were fighting with men.

‘They were doing everything, even kickboxing. The women were getting a real kicking and then a British man who was nearby stepped in and put one of the men on the ground.’

But he said the police arrived just in time to prevent the have-a-go hero getting beaten up by the French gang.

Local police are understood to be preparing a report for national police who will now take over the investigation under the coordination of an investigating judge.

The British women were not available for comment.

    • Goodale adopts the name ‘Daesh’ for so-called Islamic State
Echoes U.S. position that group is neither Islamic nor a state

In the federal government’s 2016 report on the terrorist threat to Canada, Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale refers to the so-called Islamic State as “Daesh”, saying that will be the Trudeau government’s name for the group from now on.

“This group is neither Islamic nor a state, and so will be referred to as Daesh (its Arabic acronym) in this Report,” said Goodale in the 2016 Public Report on the Terrorist Threat to Canada, which explains the government’s view of the key issues and threats facing Canadians from terrorists and stresses the need to both stop the group and others like it from radicalizing Canadians and the need to make sure that all responses to the threat of terrorism balance Canadians’ rights and freedoms.

“I can also confirm that this change is government-wide,” said Goodale’s press secretary, Scott Bardsley.

The acronym Daesh comes from the letters of the name the group first took when it formed: “al-Dawla al-Islamiya fil Iraq wa al-Sham.”

The group has threatened to cut out the tongues of anyone who uses the name, which closely resembles another word in Arabic that means to tread underfoot, trample down, or crush something.

World leaders, including French President Francois Hollande and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, have been using the term since the end of last year, as have MPs with the Conservative Party in Canada.

Apart from the name change, the report offers little new information and closely echoes the sentiments outlined by Goodale in a June column about the government’s national security priorities published in the Huffington Post.

In both documents, Goodale stresses the need to balance rights and freedoms in the fight to prevent terrorism, as well as the need to pay serious attention to stopping radicalization before it takes root. He also touts the government’s efforts to create both a national counter-radicalization office and a new committee of parliamentarians tasked with reviewing the actions of Canada’s national security agencies.

“As we meet the threat of terrorism, we must also ensure the protection of our rights and freedoms. The establishment of a committee of Parliamentarians with access to classified information will play an important role in strengthening the accountability of all our national security agencies,” the report reads.

“We will also strive to make Canada a global leader in countering the insidious influences that draw people — especially young people — into radicalization to violence. As part of this effort, we are launching a new national office for community outreach and engagement to pursue research, mobilize resources, and help coordinate work at all levels to detect and prevent tragedies before they occur.”

The statistics included in the report are vague and most are already available publicly, such as the number of “extremist travellers” who have returned to Canada (around 60) and the number of individuals “with a nexus to Canada” who are suspected of being involved in terrorist activities abroad (approximately 180).

Of the individuals who have travelled from Canada, about 20 per cent are women.

The lure of Daesh for women is one of the emerging issues highlighted briefly in the report, along with the potential for use of chemical weapons and the growing use of encryption by terrorist groups.

Encryption has been a hot topic in the United States in recent years, particularly after the high-profile fight between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Apple over whether the technology giant should provide law enforcement with technology to get around the encryption on an iPhone used by the ISIS-inspired shooters behind last December’s San Bernardino attack.

“The growing use of encryption was brought to public attention during investigations into recent terrorist attacks outside Canada,” the report reads. “Encryption technology helps protect the privacy of Canadians but also creates new barriers in law enforcement and national security investigations. The Government intends to work with Canadians, industry, other key stakeholders and the international community to address these privacy and security concerns.”

Goodale said last week he wants to see more discussion among Canadians about encryption and where the balance lies between helping police to prevent crimes and respecting Canadians’ privacy.

His comments came just days after the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police passed a resolution at their national conference asking for a law that would require people to hand over their electronic passwords with the consent of a judge.

  21. SAUDI ARABIA – Saudi police foil terror plot on Tarout Island

JEDDAH: Saudi police have foiled an attempt by the Daesh terrorist network to bomb restaurants on the island of Tarout in the Eastern Province, the Ministry of Interior said on Wednesday.
Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki said two of the plotters were identified as Abdullah Abdulrahman Abdullah Ghonaimy, 27, a Saudi citizen, and Syrian national Hussein Mohammed Ali Mohammed, 24.

Al-Turki said the terrorists were arrested two weeks ago but the arrest was announced only on Wednesday after all the plotters were arrested.

As narrated by General Al-Turki to Arab News, the two terrorists were on a car on their way to carry out their sordid mission on August 5 when they were stopped at a checkpoint in Dammam.
When the police started inspecting the duo, one of them tried to escape but was overpowered. He turned out to be carrying a suicide vest with bombs weighing seven kilograms. During interrogation, the two suspects admitted working for the Daesh and led police to two other plotters, both Syrians.

“They were trained by Daesh elements abroad to target, in a suicide operation, Al-Saif Restaurant and Cafe in Tarout” neighboring Qatif, the ministry said.

“They were to implement the operation at 11 p.m. the same day,” the statement said. “Investigations so far reveal that two other Syrians are involved and have been arrested.”

    Qatif bomber identified

Also on Wednesday, the Interior Ministry announced that the terrorist who died in a failed suicide bombing mission in Qatif on Tuesday night was a Pakistani. The man was identified from an ID that was found on his pocket, said the ministry, which withheld the name. The terrorist, who was said to be wearing an explosive vest, was killed near Al-Rasoul Al-A’dham mosque in the village of Um Al-Hamam in Qatif.

Another man was arrested by police in Al-Mustafa area and unconfirmed reports say that the man was also not a Saudi. A number of suicide bombing attacks in the kingdom in the past two years had been claimed by the Daesh, which has declared a caliphate in parts of Iraq and Syria.
The latest attacks in the kingdom claimed by the Daesh group were carried out on July 4 in Jeddah, Qatif and the holy city of Madinah.

Four police officers were killed in the Madinah attack while the bombers succeeded in killing only themselves in the Jeddah and Qatif attacks. Saudi authorities have killed or arrested hundreds of suspected Daesh members or supporters in the past two years.

        • Oh, they are saying now that it is “gas explosion”.
Somehow recently there are soooo many of “gas explosions” and “people with psychological problems”

        • I know the feeling, in a lot of ways I am a hillbilly and close to the old Scottish clan attitude and the old Scottish clans had some inter-clan politics that make the Middle East look simple and were capable of revenge and atrocities that would make most people in the Mideast sick.

  25. Hillary Clinton Deleted Emails Using Program Intended To ‘Prevent Recovery’

Hillary Clinton’s team of aides and lawyers deleted emails from her private server using a software program intended to “prevent recovery” and hide traces of deleted files.

South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy revealed the information during an interview on Thursday on Fox News. Citing notes that FBI investigators took during their probe of Clinton’s private email server, Gowdy said that Clinton’s team used open source software called BleachBit to remove tens of thousands of emails from her server.

Gowdy said that the use of the program undermines Clinton’s claims that the emails she withheld from the State Department were innocuous. The former secretary of state has frequently said that the 30,000-plus emails she decided not to give the State Department in Dec. 2014 were about yoga routines and her daughter’s wedding plans.

Heather Samuelson, a longtime Clinton aide and former State Department official, oversaw the review of Clinton’s emails before they were given to the State Department. Clinton lawyer David Kendall and her former chief of staff, Cheryl Mills, oversaw the process.

The Clinton team’s use of BleachBit suggests nefarious motives, Gowdy suggested.

“If she considered them to be personal, then she and her lawyers had those emails deleted,” Gowdy said. “They didn’t just push the delete button, they had them deleted so even God couldn’t read them.”

A website advertising BleachBit describes the product.

`strong>“Beyond simply deleting files, BleachBit includes advanced features such as shredding files to prevent recovery, wiping free disk space to hide traces of files deleted by other applications, and vacuuming Firefox to make it faster,” the website reads.

Clinton has claimed that she gave the State Department all of the work-related emails she had in her possession by late 2014. But it was officially revealed last month that Clinton & Co. likely deleted a significant number of emails.

FBI director James Comey said that investigators had recovered “several thousand” work-related Clinton emails. Earlier this month, it was reported that the FBI recovered 14,900 Clinton records. They have been given to the State Department and will be released beginning in October.

Kendall, Clinton’s lawyer, told Gowdy in a letter last year that none of the emails Clinton declined to turn over to the State Department were recoverable. It is not clear at this point who ran the BleachBit program on Clinton’s server.

  26. Germany: Temporary tattoos saying ‘No’ to sexual harassment distributed at Meersburg pool

      • The only upside to these ridiculous tattoos is the awareness that the young girls get that they are subject to harassment and must employ more situational awareness.
The idea that a 3rd world shithead is going to pay any attention is absurd.
I thought the same about the stupid bracelets in Sweden.

  27. Every British TV Show To Be Monitored for ‘Diversity’

Some of Britain’s best-loved and most watched programmes, including EastEnders and Coronation Street, are to be monitored for their ethnic, gender and sexual orientation diversity as part of a new scheme to be rolled out eventually across the whole of British television.

The BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and Sky are all taking part in Project Diamond, a scheme which will gather data on the gender, ethnicity, disability, age, sexual orientation and gender identity of all key staff working in television production, from the actors to the sound technicians.

All of the information will be fed into an encrypted computer system which will anonymise the data and allow trends to be monitored. The organisation behind Project Diamond, the Creative Diversity Network (CDN) has said that initial data will present a broad picture analysis, but it hopes to be able to monitor individual shows within time, The Guardian has reported.
