  1. MIDDLE EAST LOBBYING: THE INFLUENCE GAME
Have you ever wondered why the U.S. would quickly resume arms sales to an unsavory ally after a bloody crackdown on protesters? Why Congress would side with a repressive regime in labeling the opposition as a terrorist threat? Or why an annual spending bill would mandate that foreign aid be spent on a desolate strip of the Sahara?

Sure, U.S. economic and strategic interests may be at play. But for every foreign policy decision our leaders make, it’s usually a safe bet that a small army of hired guns are working behind the scenes to make sure foreign governments’ best interests are protected.

Al-Monitor’s Julian Pecquet and Abigail Kukura have sifted through hundreds of lobbying and financial records to bring you the most comprehensive resource available on Middle East lobbying in Washington. Throughout the month of August, we’ll be revealing the who, the why – and the how much – discreetly guiding all aspects of foreign policy, from weapons contracts and foreign aid to trade deals and financial sanctions.

We’re starting on Aug. 8 with a look at lobbying by the North African nations of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt as well as the disputed territory of the Western Sahara.

Check back with us on Aug. 15 to read up on Iran, Syria, Turkey, Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government.

On Aug. 22, we head to the Levant: Israel, Palestine, Jordan and Lebanon.

And finally we’ll round things out on Aug. 29 by focusing on the Gulf states: Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait.

  2. Britain’s asylum seeker MADNESS: 1 in 3 applications by illegal migrants or over-stayers (express, Aug 16, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/700282/asylum-applications-overstayed-visas-illegal-migrants

“THE chaos behind Britain’s immigration system has been laid bare.

Official figures yesterday revealed that more than a third of asylum applications are made by migrants who are here illegally or have overstayed their visa period.

Tens of thousands of the asylum seekers only submitted claims for refugees status after being caught by immigration officials, the Home Office data indicated.

Critics last night said the figures suggested many asylum seekers were “economic migrants” who are trying to “play the system” to prolong their stay.

The latest snapshot of the asylum system was revealed in a reply to a Commons Written Answer at Westminster from the Home Office.

The data showed that 36 per cent of asylum applications in between 2004 and 2014 were from migrants “encountered by local immigration and enforcement staff.

Figures released by Home Office minister Lord Bates in reply to a question tabled by crossbench peer Lord Green of Deddington showed such migrants accounted for 83,912 of the 231,100 asylum applications received by the Home Office over the 10-year period.

Tory MP Philip Hollobone said: “This is yet further extraordinary evidence of the extent to which our immigration system is being abused by people falsely claiming asylum.

“These people are effectively claiming to be refugees but they are only doing this to try and continue their illegal stay in the country.

“It needs to be remembered that these people make it more difficult for genuine asylum seekers to get the help they need because they clog up the system with their false claims.”

Alp Mehmet, deputy chairman of the pressure group Migration Watch founded by Lord Green, said: “What these figures show is that having arrived, then by hook or crook, these people will seek any possible means to stay.

“These figures suggest that many of those claiming asylum are in fact economic migrants.”

Former Labour minister Keith Vaz, chairman of the Commons Home Affairs Committee, said: “It is deeply concerning that a third of all asylum applications have been made by illegal migrants and over-stayers.

“The very principle of seeking asylum is that you feel persecuted at the time you arrive, not saying you feel persecuted after arriving illegally or for different reasons and then remaining in the country until you are apprehended.

“This is a significant clog in the immigration system, and we should ensure that this is not to the detriment of vulnerable people with a legitimate claim of asylum…”

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-37090851

“The US says it has sent 15 Guantanamo Bay detainees to the United Arab Emirates – the largest single transfer during President Barack Obama’s administration.

The Pentagon says the transfer of 12 Yemeni nationals and three Afghans brings the total number of prisoners down to 61 at the US facility in Cuba.

Most of inmates have been held without charge or trial for more than a decade.

President Obama wants to close the prison before he leaves office.

The White House also wants to transfer the remainder to the US – but Congress is opposed.
Mr Obama believes Guantanamo Bay fuels the recruitment of jihadists and creates stronger anti-US feelings…”

    • President Obama wants to close the prison before he leaves office.
I’d like to see him closed in the prison and never see office. Any office, ever again.

Once we are awake and decide to fight the war as a war of survival the world will tremble at our anger. Pray that we are truly awake and getting ready to fight, the sooner we start fighting for real the shorter, cheaper the war will be and the number of patriots who have to water the tree of liberty will be fewer then if we have to wait.

  5. New York imam shooting suspect charged with murder (BBC, Aug 16, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-37090854

“New York police have charged a man with murder in connection with the killing of an imam and an aide on Saturday.

Oscar Morel, 35, was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon.

Imam Maulama Akonjee, 55, and Thara Uddin, 64, were shot in the head as they were walking after prayers in the borough of Queens.

Some mosque-goers suggested it was a hate crime, but police said there was no evidence so far that the men had been targeted because of their faith.

Following the shooting, New York City Bill De Blasio said Muslims were living “in the perpetual crosshairs of bigotry”.

On Monday, the New York Police Department said Mr Morel had been charged with two counts of second-degree murder.

He was arrested on Sunday following a hit-and-run traffic accident just after the shootings.

The gunmen was seen on CCTV video fleeing the scene in a car. About 10 minutes later a vehicle matching that description hit a cyclist several miles away.

Police gave no details about a possible motive for the shooting…”

The murder of a Muslim imam and his friend in broad daylight was the result of a “Muslim-Hispanic feud,” say police who have arrested a suspect in the case.

      New York Daily News:

The killer who crept up behind an imam and his friend near a Queens mosque and shot both men in the head may have been settling a score in a feud between Muslims and Hispanics, police sources said early Monday.

And he may have left behind another victim who unwittingly held the clue that solved the crime, the sources said.

The suspected killer was taken into custody Sunday night but had not been charged or identified, according to the sources. Police officials would not confirm whether a suspect was nabbed.

Video of the horrific Saturday afternoon murders of mosque leader Maulama Akonjee, 55, and Thara Uddin, 65, at Liberty Ave. and 79th St. in Ozone Park showed the brazen crime to be a planned execution.

But the killer may have gotten sloppy in his haste after pulling the trigger and hit a bicyclist with his car, sources said.

“Turkish police launched simultaneous raids on 44 companies in Istanbul on Aug. 16 and had warrants to detain 120 company executives as part of the investigation into last month’s attempted military coup, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

It said the companies were accused of giving financial support to the movement of U.S.-based preacher Fethullah Gülen, who is accused of orchestrating the July 15 coup attempt. He denies the accusation.

None of the companies involved were named. Police began searches in the Üsküdar and Ümraniye districts of Istanbul, including buildings belonging to an unnamed holding company, the agency said.

Since the coup attempt, more than 35,000 people have been detained, of whom 17,000 have been placed under formal arrest, and tens of thousands more suspended in a crackdown of Turkey’s military, law-and-order, education and justice systems.”

  7. Syrian conflict: Russian bombers use Iran base for air strikes (BBC, Aug 16, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-37093854

“Russia’s defence ministry says it has used a base in western Iran to carry out air strikes in Syria.

Tupolev-22M3 long-range bombers and Sukhoi-34 strike fighters took off from Hamedan on Wednesday, a statement said.

The aircraft attacked jihadist militants in Aleppo, Idlib and Deir al-Zour provinces, it added.

It is reportedly the first time Russia has struck targets inside Syria from a third country since it began a campaign to prop up Syria’s president last year…”

    • Russia’s Defense Ministry says that Russian warplanes have taken off from a base in Iran to target Islamic State fighters in Syria.

Tuesday’s announcement marks a major development in the efforts against the Sunni militant group. Russia has never used the territory of another country in the Middle East — except Syria — for its operations inside Syria before this.

The ministry’s statement says Su-34 and Tu-22M3 bombers took off earlier in the day to target Islamic State and the Nusra Front militants in Aleppo, as well as in Deir el-Zour and Idlib, destroying five major ammunition depots, training camps and three command posts.

Russia and Iran have been expanding their ties in the past months after most of the sanctions against Iran were lifted.
      ======================================================

U.S. officials say the setup at the Iranian air base used by Russian bombers to strike militants in Syria was established very quickly, perhaps overnight.

One military official says the Russians flew four Tu-22 Backfire bombers to the Iranian air base along with a Russian cargo plane loaded with the munitions for the bombers just hours before the missions.

U.S. officials say Washington was aware that Russia had talked about the possibility of flying planes out of Iran since late last year. But Moscow’s decision to do so on Tuesday came as a surprise.

That raises questions about whether the move was a strategic necessity or a political message from the Kremlin to Washington.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss diplomacy in public.

      • This is the first time since the Shah left that a foreign air force has been allowed to use Iranian air fields for combat operations.

      • Golden Opportunity:
Nothing’s easier for Israelis than infiltrating Russian military. Best chance in years to get inside intel on Iran. Not only Russian-Israelis (a million, or so), but non-hyphenated Russians in the military who happen to be kinda/ -sorta Jew or part-Jew, way down deep. Or sympathizers. Or simply Tard-haters. (Anybody who served in Afghanistan or relatives of same).

        Count on it:
1- Wherever Russian military goes in Iran, information flows to the IDF.
2- Uncle Vlad knows. His Minister of Defense will have planted some of those eyes in concert with Israel’s MoD (a tough old Russian).
3- It’s a snake-pit. “This will end in tears,” as they say.

        • Where I used to work there was a Russian Jew of Iranian ethnic background. He used to work on air force interceptors; he would fit in perfectly in Iran!

          • This is why we should be taking in all of the Christians from the Middle Eastern nations that we can, they are an intelligence asset that can’t be over estimated. It was Jews from the Middle Eastern nations that gave the Mossad its awesome reputation, and that keeps that reputation shined. This is an asset that Obama has worked hard to destroy and one we must cultivate once Trump is in office.

            • For sure, we couldn’t get better eyes than those Mideast Christians. An incredible asset can fall right into our hands.

“A breakaway Taliban faction in Afghanistan has appointed a new leader for the group, the nephew of the faction’s longtime leader who was killed in fighting with rivals last year.

The development reflects the complex layers of the insurgency in Afghanistan, where though dominant, the Taliban are not the only militant group waging war. The video, obtained by The Associated Press, says that Mullah Emdadullah Mansoor was named leader of the faction known as Mahaaz-e-Dadullah.

The appointment came at a gathering Monday in southern Zabul province. The meeting was attended by tribal and religious leaders, as well as the group’s local commanders.

The video shows Mansoor accepting the leadership position among a crowd of gunmen, mostly young guards. He is the nephew of Mullah Mansoor Dadullah who was killed in Khak-e-Afghan district of Zabul last year, fighting with rival Taliban.

“A knife-wielding man attacked passengers early Tuesday on a train in western Austria, seriously wounding two, police said. The suspect was arrested.

The assault occurred near the village of Sulz, in westernmost Vorarlberg province. A police statement said that a 19-year old man suffered wounds to the stomach and back. The other victim, a 17-year old male, had a throat injury. Both were hospitalized.

The assault came three days after a man attacked passengers on a crowded Swiss train with a knife and burning liquid Saturday, in an assault that left him and one of his victims dead. In Austria, Vorarlberg police spokeswoman Elisabeth Engelhardt said police were searching for a motive as they questioned the man but “at this point there is no knowledge” of a copycat attack.

  13. Calais Locals Warned to Stay Away from Main Roads As Migrants Smash Vehicles

Migrants wielding bats and knives have been smashing up vehicles on roads near Calais as their owners sit in traffic, reportedly “just for fun”. Local residents are warning others to avoid the area, saying that the migrants are not even checking to see whether children are in the vehicles before they set upon them.

One resident has posted pictures to Facebook of her brother-in-law’s car, which sustained more than €500 worth of damage when over a dozen migrants set about it with bats, completely smashing a side mirror and the rear window, and shattering the windscreen.

“You’re leaving work and then you’re attacked by migrant shits just for fun – it disgusts me!” commented Maëva Mayla, in a post which has been shared by more than 6,000 people.

  14. New York man expected in court over slaying of Muslim imam, assistant

(Reuters) – A New York man is expected to appear in court on Tuesday after being charged with second-degree murder in the deaths of a New York Muslim imam and his assistant, who were gunned down over the weekend, police said.

The charges against Oscar Morel, 35, of Brooklyn, came on Monday just hours after hundreds of mourners gathered for the outdoor funeral of the two men. The killings in the borough of Queens shocked the neighborhood’s Bangladeshi community.

Morel was charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Imam Maulama Akonjee, 55, and Thara Uddin, 64, a spokesman for the New York Police Department said.

He also was charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. The spokesman did not disclose any possible motive for the shooting.

Police said Morel was being held early on Tuesday morning and was expected to be arraigned later in the day.

Morel had been questioned by police following his arrest on charges related to a hit-and-run traffic accident on Saturday, the day of the shootings.

Akonjee and Uddin were shot in the head at close range after Saturday prayers at the Al-Furqan Jame Mosque in Queens’ Ozone Park section.

Hispanic Oscar Morel, 35, of Brooklyn, was charged Monday night with two counts of second-degree for the killings of Imam Maulana Alauddin Akonjee and Thara Uddin after cops say they recovered what they believe is the gun at his home.

Investigators found clothes similar to those worn by the gunman in surveillance video of the killing stuffed into the wall of the suspect’s home along with the weapon.

Police and the Queens District Attorney would not say why Morel has not been charged with first degree murder – but it may be because it will be easier to upgrade the charges at a later stage.

“Prosecutors in western Turkey have demanded a life sentence for U.S.-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen, whom Turkey accuses of masterminding the failed coup, the state-run news agency reported Tuesday.

Concluding a yearlong investigation into his movement’s financial dealings, prosecutors in the city of Usak demanded that Gulen be punished with two life sentences plus 1,900 years in prison, the Anadolu Agency reported.

In the more than 2,500-page indictment accepted by the court in Usak on Tuesday, Gulen and 111 other suspects are accused of transferring funds obtained through charities or donations to the United States via “front” companies, Anadolu said. It said the indictment also makes reference to Gulen’s alleged role in the July 15 coup.

Gulen, a former Erdogan ally who lives in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania, is already on trial in absentia in Turkish courts, facing life terms over accusations of plotting to overthrow the government and leading an armed group. He has also been indicted on a charge of leading a terror organization and faces another trial in absentia in November.

“Turkey has worked with Islamist groups and has supported militant organizations in the Middle East for years, according to the German government, state broadcaster ARD reported Tuesday.

The view was expressed in a confidential response from the interior ministry to parliamentary questions from left-wing party Die Linke. The response was seen by ARD. The ministry added that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an has actively supported cooperation with Islamist and terrorist organizations, such as Hamas.

“The many expressions of solidarity and support actions for the Egyptian MB [Muslim Brotherhood], Hamas and the armed Islamist opposition groups in Syria by the ruling AK Party and President Erdo?an emphasize the ideological affinity with the Muslim Brotherhood,” the ministry statement said.

The statement, based on information from Germany’s Federal Intelligence Service (BND), added that “as a result of the gradually Islamized domestic and foreign policy of Ankara since 2011, Turkey has become the central platform for action for Islamist groups in the Middle East.””

  20. How Much Influence Would George Soros Have Over President Hillary?

Part of the energy that has infused the Donald Trump movement has been a national urge to get away from the status quo, wherein rich and powerful “establishment” figures call the shots in Washington. These men have not been elected by a single voter, yet they have purchased influence at the highest levels of the U.S. government. It may seem counterintuitive to call upon one of those very men to save us from the system, but sometimes you gotta fight fire with fire.

Speaking of fire, Hillary Clinton has another one she’s going to need to put out. Or, she will if the mainstream political media actually bothers to cover this story the way it deserves to be covered. According to an email chain from the September 2015 dump from the State Department, liberal billionaire George Soros called on his pal Hillary in 2011 for a little foreign policy “favor.”

In the email, which was sent from Soros to Hillary’s top advisers at the State Department, the billionaire asks the then-secretary to follow his advice regarding a situation brewing in Albania:

  21. ‘Tribal behavior’ taking over: Teen shot in BLM-incited Milwaukee riots; Walker calls up Guard
    By J.E. Dyer August 15, 2016

The situation in Milwaukee has spiraled out of control so quickly that it seems even our ever-ready MSM aren’t sure how to respond.

Fortunately, Milwaukee has Sheriff David Clarke and Governor Scott Walker to assess the situation and make decisions about it. Walker called up the National Guard on Monday, responding to a recommendation from Sheriff Clarke. This is clearly a good and necessary measure, considering that on Sunday night, after rioters had reportedly spent the weekend “hunting whitey,” a white 18-year-old was shot in the street at the scene of some of the rioting.

  22. Swiss attacker didn’t know victims; 3 remain hospitalized

BERLIN (AP) — A Swiss man who attacked passengers aboard a train with a knife and a burning liquid, killing one and wounding five, didn’t know any of his victims according to the investigation so far, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Investigators also haven’t found any indication that the 27-year-old attacker was linked to any kind of political or religious extremism, St. Gallen canton (state) prosecutors’ spokesman Roman Dobler said.

Seven people including the suspect were initially wounded in the Saturday afternoon attack. On Sunday, the assailant, identified only as Simon S., and a 34-year-old woman he had attacked died of their injuries.

Three victims remain in hospital: a 17-year-old girl in life-threatening condition as well as a 6-year-old girl and a 43-year-old woman, both of whom are considered to be out of danger, police said.

The attacker died before he was able to be interrogated and authorities are still trying to determine what may have prompted the attack, which took place as the train neared the Swiss town of Salez, close to the border with Liechtenstein.

The suspect lived in a neighboring Swiss canton but also had a residence in Liechtenstein, which has been searched in conjunction with authorities there, Dobler said.

In that and other searches, authorities seized many electronic items, such as computers, storage devices and a mobile telephone. The information on them is now being evaluated, Dobler said.

“We’re trying to build as much as possible a full picture of what caused the suspect to carry out this act,” he said.

    http://bigstory.ap.org/article/b74871743df947f9847ddf4d2b94c857/swiss-attacker-didnt-know-victims-3-remain-hospitalized

    • For the first day the police knew attacker’s name but they were only saying that the attacker had a “Swiss name”. Furthermore, in German ( Bild.de) and the Swiss newspapers the attack was blamed on a supposed bullying in school, and there was a long discussion on the subject of “how awful it is to be bullied in school”.
Now it seems that the “information is evaluated” …. so strange, isn’t it?

  23. Radical cleric Anjem Choudary guilty of inviting IS support (BBC, Aug 16, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-37098751

“Radical UK cleric Anjem Choudary has been convicted of inviting others to support the so-called Islamic State group, it can now be reported.

Choudary, 49, drummed up support for the militant group in a series of talks posted on YouTube, the Old Bailey heard.

He was convicted alongside his confidant, Mohammed Mizanur Rahman.

The Met Police said many people tried for serious offences “attended lectures or speeches given by these men.”

Counter-terrorism chiefs have spent almost 20 years trying to bring Choudary to trial, blaming him, and the proscribed organisations which he helped to run, for radicalising young men and women.

The verdict on the two defendants was delivered on 28 July, but for legal reasons can only now be reported.

The trial heard how the men decided in the summer of 2014 that the group then known as Isis [Islamic State in Iraq and al-Sham/the Levant] had formed a “Khilafah”, or Islamic State, that demanded the obedience and support of Muslims.

They then invited others to support IS through speeches and announced their own oath of allegiance to its leader.

The oath of allegiance was a “turning point” which meant they could be put on trial, police said…”

  24. German arrested on suspicion of selling gun to Munich shooter, prosecutor says

BERLIN (Reuters) – Police on Tuesday arrested an armed 31-year-old German man who boasted during a sting operation that he had supplied the Glock 17 pistol used by the gunman who killed nine people in Munich on July 22, the Frankfurt state prosecutor said in a statement.

Authorities arrested the man, who was not named, in Marburg, about 100 km (68 miles) north of Frankfurt, after contacting him on the so-called “dark net” and posing as buyers for an automatic weapon and another Glock 17 pistol for 8,000 euros ($9,021.60), it said.

The man’s claims were supported by evidence gathered by the Munich prosecutor’s office and Bavarian state police, the statement said.

It said the suspect was identified during an investigation into illegal weapons purchases by a 62-year-old accountant from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and a 17-year-old student from the state of Hesse.

During the course of a subsequent sting operation, the suspect said he had sold the 18-year-old Iranian-German the Glock 17 pistol during a meeting in Marburg on May 20, followed by 350 rounds of ammunition during a second meeting on July 18. The gunman then went on to kill nine people in Munich, then shoot himself.

German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere last week announced a package of proposals – including the creation of a special unit to counter cyber crime and terrorism – to improve security in Germany after the Munich shooting and two attacks linked to the Islamic State militant group.

Deutsche Welle – Authorities arrest man suspected of selling gun to Munich shooter

[…] An investigator said he arrested the man on Tuesday during a sting operation in Marburg, north of Frankfurt. The official reported that the suspect allegedly met with the shooter twice, once in May to sell him the gun and then once four days before the shooting to sell him the ammunition.

The suspect, who sold weapons on the so-called “darknet,” was armed his own gun at the time of his arrest. He had been apparently attempting to sell a machine gun and a pistol illegally.

A motive for Ali David S.’ rampage is still unclear, though the teen was apparently inspired by earlier mass shootings in Europe. One mass shooting, committed by Anders Breivik in Norway, happened five years earlier to the day before the Munich rampage.

“Two migrants were wounded in a shooting after a row in a migrant camp in the northern French port of Dunkirk, several sources said on Tuesday.

A 30-year-old Iraqi migrant received a gunshot wound in the groin area and a 25-year-old man whose nationality was unknown was wounded in the side in the incident in the Grande-Synthe camp on Monday, a police source said.

Both men required hospital treatment but neither had life-threatening injuries.

“A police investigation is under way to establish the precise circumstances of this row and who fired the gun,” a spokesman for the local authorities said.

The shooting followed an incident in which two migrants suffered minor knife wounds in the camp on Sunday. The Grande-Synthe camp was built by the Medecins sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) charity and the local authorities in accordance with international humanitarian norms and currently holds nearly 800 people…”

    http://www.thelocal.dk/20160816/danish-politicians-face-charges-for-housing-migrants

“An Aarhus City Councilwoman and a parliamentary hopeful were in court on Tuesday to face charges of violating Denmark’s immigration laws by housing two African refugees.

The councilwoman, Maria Sloth of the far-left Red-Green Alliance (Enhedslisten), and her roommate, Anne Hegelund, opened their doors to the two refugees in September 2015, as Denmark experienced a wave of migrants.

The two women gave the Africans a place to sleep for the night and then bought them tickets to take a ferry to Norway the following day.

When Sloth later shared her story with local newspaper Aarhus Stiftstidende, her fellow council member, Marc Perera Christensen of the Conservatives, filed a police report saying that she and Hegelund, who is also an Enhedslisten politician and hopes to be elected to parliament, had violated immigration laws by helping people who were in the country illegally.

“We’re talking about the intentional facilitation of illegal transit and residence and therefore we are making a claim for detainment,” the prosecutor in the case, Jacob Balsgaard Nielsen of the East Jutland Police, said in court on Tuesday, according to Ritzau…”

  27. British teenager forced to marry cousin at gunpoint in Pakistan (tribune, Aug 15, 2016)

“A British teenager claimed she was forced at gunpoint in Pakistan to marry her cousin, who raped her everyday for three years.

Tasbassan Khan* alleged she was 15 when her aunt told her she was going on a summer holiday to Pakistan. Khan’s father had murdered her mother when she was 12, leaving her and three brothers in the care of their aunt in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.

On arriving in Pakistan, Khan claimed she was forced at gunpoint to marry her cousin, who was six years older and held her captive for three years, raping her every night. Khan later discovered she was forced into the marriage so her cousin could get a visa to come to Britain.

Now 26, Khan told the Sunday Express, “I thought I was going to Pakistan on holiday. I was excited. Then two months passed and it was time to start the school year. I asked my uncle when I should go back and he just kept saying, stay a bit longer for weeks. After four months, he came up to my room with a gun and told me I had to marry my cousin.”…”

  28. How Democrats Ruined Milwaukee and Set the Stage for the Current RiotsThe city of Milwaukee was once a prosperous, thriving metropolis. For years it was the world’s foremost beer-producing city, and home to four of the largest breweries on earth (Schlitz, Blatz, Pabst, and Miller). Almost every major American brewery, in fact, had at least one factory in Milwaukee. These employed thousands of local residents in jobs that formed the foundation of the city’s middle class. Other major corporations in the city during the first half of the twentieth century included the A. F. Gallun & Sons leather tanning company; the machinery manufacturer Allis-Chalmers; the heavy-mining equipment producer Bucyrus Erie Company; the Falk Corporation, producer of industrial power transmission products; the electrical component maker Cutler-Hammer; and the A.O. Smith Corporation, a major manufacturer of automotive frames.

Politically, Milwaukee has not had a Republican mayor since 1908. Every mayor since then has been a Democrat—with the exception of three who were openly Socialist. The first of the Socialists—in fact the first Socialist mayor of any major American city—was Emil Seidel, who held office from 1910-12; he also ran for U.S. Vice President in 1912, on the Socialist Party of America ticket. In 1916 Daniel Webster Hoan became Milwaukee’s second Socialist mayor, and his 24-year tenure in office was the longest continuous Socialist administration in American history. The city’s third Socialist mayor was Frank Paul Zeidler, who served three terms from 1948-60. A vocal supporter of the nascent civil rights movement, Zeidler and his administration oversaw the large-scale construction of public housing as a means of promoting racial and economic justice. Zeidler spoke out forcefully in favor of what he termed “public enterprise,” the notion that government could uplift the condition of the poor via the efficient dispensation of taxpayer-funded public services.

  29. College Democrat Threatens Reporter to Demand Apology for Story

How’s that old saying go? Never pick a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrel? It’s a little antiquated nowadays. Anyone with an internet connection can become the source of something viral. Nevertheless, it’s wise to avoid antagonizing professional journalists, especially when you work in or around public service.

Conrad Zbikowski might be learning that lesson. The president of the College Democrats of Minnesota (a.k.a Minnesota Young DFL) decided to send a threatening email to a television news reporter.

The threat was an apparent attempt to coerce an apology for a report regarding Democrat state legislative candidate Ilhan Omar. The Somali-American claimed victory over a 44-year incumbent in a primary last week, but soon found herself embroiled in scandal when it was revealed that she may be guilty of bigamy. According to public records, Omar appears to have been married to two men at the same time. Along with the father of her children, Omar appears to have also married her own brother in an effort to secure his immigration to the United States.

Television news reporter Tom Lyden produced a segment about the scandal for the local Fox affiliate. Late Monday night, Lyden posted a tweet revealing the content of an email from Zbikowski.

  30. WikiLeaks’ Assange Cites Double Standard After Feds Won’t Prosecute Clinton

“… delivering a letter tomorrow to Attorney General Loretta Lynch …”

If Democratic presidential candidate and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton can play fast and loose with classified information and have her case dismissed without prosecution after just one year of investigation, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is wondering why he can’t be investigated under that same standard.

“Our D.C. lawyers are delivering a letter tomorrow to Attorney General Loretta Lynch asking her to explain why it is that the now six-year-long national security and criminal investigation being run by the DOJ against WikiLeaks, the reason I have political asylum, has not been closed,” Assange told CNN Monday.

Assange said that in the context of how the Department of Justice investigated and never reprimanded Clinton, he is only seeking fairness.

  31. Serbia: Radical Party leader denounces Biden’s Belgrade visit, endorses Trump

Hundreds of supporters of the Serbian Radical Party (SRS) denounced the visit of the Vice President of the United States Joe Biden to the Serbian capital Belgrade on Tuesday. The crowd marched through the streets of Belgrade, headed by SRS leader Vojislav Seselj, before being stopped en route to the Presidency of Serbia by riot police.

SOT, Vojislav Seselj, Serbian Radical Party leader (Serbian): “We gathered here today to protest because the criminal and villainous Joseph Biden has once again, with his presence, defiled sacred Serbian land.”

SOT, Vojislav Seselj, Serbian Radical Party leader (Serbian): “We came here, brothers and sisters, to tell him [Biden] that regardless of how much the leaders that govern Serbia at the moment crawl in front of him, that Serbia does not love him, that Serbia hates him, that Serbia finds Joe Biden disgusting.”

SOT, Vojislav Seselj, president of the Serbian Radical Party (Serbian): “But the time has come for America to erase a dark shadow from its history. The time has come for these bandits to leave the political scene. America now has hope and a future. America now has Donald Trump.”

SOT, Vojislav Seselj, president of the Serbian Radical Party (Serbian): “He is one of the few high ranking American politicians who asked for forgiveness from the Serbian nation because of the bombing [of Serbia in 1999]. He is honest, he is honorable, he brings peace to mankind and returns pride to America.”

  32. SYRIA – U.S.-backed Syrian forces gave defeated ISIL militants safe passage

Islamic State fighters surrounded during the key battle for Manbij, Syria, last week agreed to surrender their weapons to U.S.-backed Syrian forces in return for safe passage out of the embattled city, a senior defense official said Tuesday. It was the first such agreement with the terror group.

The exhausted and demoralized militants were using civilians as human shields, which is why the U.S.-backed fighters agreed to let them flee Manbij after three months of intense fighting and near constant aerial bombardment by the U.S.-led coalition.

The U.S. official, who was not authorized to discuss battle details, said the Islamic State fighters surrendered after being surrounded by the Syrian Democratic Forces, fighters recruited and trained by the U.S.-led coalition.

The official said the agreement to let the Islamic State militants escape likely saved hundreds of civilians held by the fanatical fighters, even though it allowed some Islamic State militants to escape.

The militants turned their weapons over to Syrian Democratic Forces before leaving Manbij, the official said.

The enemy convoy of 100 to 200 fighters left the city last Friday under the watch of coalition drones to ensure that the militants did not regroup and try to return to the city.

  34. FBI sends heavily redacted Clinton interview documents to Congress

A congressional source confirmed to Fox News Tuesday that the House Government Oversight Committee had received a heavily redacted FBI summary of Hillary Clinton’s session last month with FBI agents who interviewed her about her use of a private server for government business. The agents’ notes were provided as well.

Separately, the Republican chairman of the House Government Oversight Committee, confirmed that even he does not have a high enough security clearance to read the documents in full.

“As the chairman of the chief investigative body in the House, it is significant I can’t even read these documents in their entirety,” Rep. Jason Chaffetz of Utah told Fox News. “This shows how dangerous it was to have this intelligence, highly classified to this day, on the former secretary’s unsecured personal server where it was vulnerable.”

The fact that portions of the FBI investigative file are heavily redacted and must be held and read by lawmakers in a secure facility on Capitol Hill shows how classified the material remains, despite claims made by the Clinton campaign.

The campaign’s call to release the FBI agents’ notes appears suspect because the material is too highly classified to make public. The FBI told the committee that the documents cannot be released in part or in full without prior agency approval.

“This information being highly classified according to the FBI is in direct conflict with what the State Department and Ms. Clinton have said is on the server. You could not have it both ways,” former military intelligence officer Tony Shaffer said. “You cannot say one day this is unclassified ‘nothing to see here’ and the next day, only certain people can see this and you must not be able to take it outside of a secure facility.”

Clinton was specifically interviewed by the FBI about her handling of 22 top secret emails, which included some of the government’s most closely held government programs known as special access programs, which often include human spying. The 22 top secret emails were deemed by the intelligence community too damaging to national security to make public, even with large sections blacked out.

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, confirmed it had received “FBI witness interview reports,” including that of Clinton’s interview.

“With the exception of the classified emails that had been found on the private server, I can see little legitimate purpose to which Congress will put these materials,” Schiff said in a statement.

The bureau, in closing its case, confirmed publicly that 113 classified emails were sent and received by Clinton, as well as 2,000 that were classified after the fact.

FBI chief James Comey said investigators found at least three emails that contained classified markings. However, he did not recommend criminal charges, and the Justice Department closed the case.

While Clinton has insisted nothing was marked classified at the time, the investigation found otherwise, with the emails containing a portion marking (C for confidential, the lowest level of classification). Fox News first reported that some of the emails were marked classified in June.

The House Oversight Committee questioned Comey for over five hours in July after he said no reasonable prosecutor would pursue criminal charges.

The Oversight Committee also has formally asked if Clinton committed perjury during her Benghazi testimony in October 2015, because her statements to Congress appear to conflict with the FBI’s findings.

While Democrats complained the documents would be leaked, it was the Democrats who released the FBI’s letter to the committee.

    • House Republicans detail perjury allegations against Clinton

House Republicans have detailed perjury allegations against Hillary Clinton, citing the apparent conflict between her 2015 congressional testimony about her email practices and the FBI’s conclusions announced in July, according to a letter to the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia.

“The four pieces of sworn testimony by Secretary Clinton described herein are incompatible with the FBI’s findings,” House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, and Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., wrote to U.S. Attorney Channing D. Phillips. “We hope this information is helpful to your office’s consideration of our referral.”

The Justice Department Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs, Peter Kadzik, confirmed in an Aug. 2 letter to both committees they had the perjury investigation request and the department would “take appropriate action as necessary.”

The one-page response offered no timeline nor specific commitment to act on the allegations.

According to the Justice Department website, Kadzik, “led the successful effort to confirm Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch and Deputy Attorney General Sally Q. Yates.” Both women were central players handling the Clinton email matter.

Chaffetz and Goodlatte, who have direct oversight for the FBI, wrote to the U.S. attorney that Clinton testified under oath on Oct. 22, 2015, before the Benghazi Select Committee, where she also took questions about her email practices from Republican congressman Jim Jordan of Ohio.

“Secretary Clinton stated ‘there was nothing marked classified on my emails, either sent or received,” the letter states. However, FBI Director James Comey said July 5 that a “very small number of the emails containing classified information bore the markings indicating the presence of classified information.” At least three emails had a (C) for Confidential which is the lowest level of classification. Fox News first reported in June that classified markings existed, despite Clinton’s public claims.

The letter continued, “Contrary to her sworn testimony, Secretary Clinton’s lawyers did not read each email in her personal account to identify all the work related messages.”

Clinton told Jordan that her team “went through every single email.” The FBI Director said his investigators found that Clinton’s lawyers did not read all the emails, and relied on a narrow set of search terms to identify which emails were work-related.

“The lawyers doing the sorting for Secretary Clinton in 2014 did not individually read the content of all her e-emails,” Comey said July 5. Instead, they “relied on header information and used search terms.”

Clinton also testified to Congress there was only one server.

But the FBI Director said investigators found “Clinton used several different servers and administrators of those servers during her four years at the State Department and used numerous mobile devices to review and send e-mail on that personal domain.”

The congressmen emphasized that while Clinton told Congress, and the public, she turned over all her work-related emails, the FBI found otherwise.

“I provided you, with all my work related emails, all that I had. Approximately 55,000 pages. And they are being publicly released,” Clinton testified. But FBI investigators found “several thousand work related emails that were not in the group of 30,000 that were returned by Secretary Clinton to State in 2014.”

In the course of its investigation, the FBI recovered most but not all of the deleted records. The search included “the laborious review of the millions of email fragments dumped into the slack space of the server decomissioned in 2013.”

A retired assistant FBI director, and 28-year-veteran of the bureau, said a perjury review is generally straightforward for agents.

“They look at the transcript of the testimony they provided in light of what they know to be, suspect to be the truth. They investigate both sides and take the aggregate and turn it over to the prosecuting authority for a decision,” Steven Pomerantz said.

“Since the Director (Comey) already established what she (Clinton) said and the investigation is complete, it would be a relatively simple matter to make a decision about perjury… given the history of this, it’s hard to say – it would seem to me a matter of weeks not months in this case.”

A violation of 18 USC 1621 can lead to a fine, imprisonment up to five years, or both though legal experts said the crux of the case will rely on showing intent.

When Comey testified July 7, Clinton’s campaign said some of his statements vindicated the candidate’s public statements.

“In his testimony today, Comey has reconciled most every apparent contradiction between his remarks Tuesday and Clinton’s public statements,” Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon said on Twitter.
