An influential group representing French Muslims is proposing a tax on halal food to fund mosques and fight radicalisation in the wake of a seires of terror attacks.

Anouar Kbibech, president of the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM), outlined plans for a new foundation that would help reduce foreign benefactors amid concerns over extremism.

The idea has been supported by politicians on both the right and left, although there are doubts where such a tax could be implemented.

Indonesian police found only a stash of bomb-making materials after arresting six men suspected of planning a rocket attack on Singapore from a nearby island, a senior officer said on Saturday.

But police spokesman Boy Rafli Amar said a search was on for more members of a gang now believed to be part of a wider network taking instructions from a Syria-based Islamic State militant to launch attacks across Southeast Asia.

Singapore called for heightened vigilance a day after the suspected militants were rounded up. It said their plot to target Marina Bay, a glittering downtown waterfront, showed the city-state needed to defend its multiple points of entry.

The six suspected militants were detained on Friday in dawn raids on Batam island, about 15 km (10 miles) south of Singapore, where police believe the men planned to fire the rockets from.

“A TERROR plot to attack the site of next month’s Formula 1 Grand Prix in Singapore with rockets has been uncovered.

Six terrorists with alleged links to Islamic State have been arrested after a plot to fire missiles at Marina Bay, in Singapore, was discovered.

Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Sebastian Vettel and the rest of the F1 drivers championship will race on a street circuit around Marina Bay in September.

The arrested men are reportedly linked to Bahrun Naim – the mastermind of the ISIS terror attack on Jakarta, Indonesia, in January.

The gang were plotting to launch the attack from the Indonesian island of Batam – which is just 10 miles from Singapore.

They were going to fire the rockets across the straits between the two islands.

A teenager who sprayed acid over a group of friends in an unprovoked attack, leaving some of them with permanent scars, has been jailed for eight years.

A case of black-on-white hate crime:

Alexander Bassey, 17, attacked his five victims at Ockendon rail station in Essex as a train pulled in during the early hours of 22 May.

Bassey gestured towards the friends and encouraged them to join him on the train, which was heading to Barking. When the group refused, he left the train and approached the five while yelling abuse at them, British Transport police said.

He then sprayed a highly corrosive substance over them before running back on to the train.

For centuries, the northern French town of Lille has been home to an autumn flea market — as famous for its party atmosphere as for its wealth of secondhand goods. Last year, more than 2 million people came to the weekend festival to gulp down oysters, drink all night and haggle over goods.

But La Braderie de Lille has been called off this year. After recent terrorist attacks in France, authorities say it is impossible to ensure security, NPR’s Eleanor Beardsley reports.

“Lille Mayor Martine Aubrey said canceling La Braderie was a gut-wrenching decision, but the city could not guarantee the safety of the more than 2 million visitors who show up for the street fair,” Eleanor reports. “The head of Lille’s Chamber Of Commerce called the cancellation an economic and cultural disaster.

Analysis The BBC’s creepy detector vans will be dragged into the 21st century to sniff Brits’ home Wi-Fi networks, claims the UK Daily Telegraph’s Saturday splash.

From September 1, you’ll need a telly licence if you stream catch-up or on-demand TV from the BBC’s iPlayer service, regardless if you’ve got a television set or not – phone, computer, potato, whatever, you’ll have to cough up.

In preparation for this, allegedly, the Beeb’s heavies are going to drive vans around Blighty’s streets with gear that will spy on people’s wireless networks to make sure they’re not streaming iPlayer without a licence. Assuming this is true, and another sign that Britain is nothing more than a parody dystopian state, how exactly is this going to work?

  8. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-08-05/this-company-has-built-a-profile-on-every-american-adult

Forget telephoto lenses and fake mustaches: The most important tools for America’s 35,000 private investigators are database subscription services. For more than a decade, professional snoops have been able to search troves of public and nonpublic records—known addresses, DMV records, photographs of a person’s car—and condense them into comprehensive reports costing as little as $10. Now they can combine that information with the kinds of things marketers know about you, such as which politicians you donate to, what you spend on groceries, and whether it’s weird that you ate in last night, to create a portrait of your life and predict your behavior.
IDI, a year-old company in the so-called data-fusion business, is the first to centralize and weaponize all that information for its customers. The Boca Raton, Fla., company’s database service, idiCORE, combines public records with purchasing, demographic, and behavioral data. Chief Executive Officer Derek Dubner says the system isn’t waiting for requests from clients—it’s already built a profile on every American adult, including young people who wouldn’t be swept up in conventional databases, which only index transactions. “We have data on that 21-year-old who’s living at home with mom and dad,” he says.

    • What’s really creepy is that private firms use license plate readers, as well as governments, to compile lists of who’s in an area, and make that data available. That means that simple traffic analysis and database associations could ascertain future activities in an area. Yes, the government could determine if resistance elements seem to be congregating in an area.

  9. And this is why we should demand cars with NO electronic parts, NO computers and NO internet connection ONLY:

    http://gadgets.ndtv.com/internet/news/jeep-hackers-back-at-black-hat-with-new-and-scarier-method-869576

In front of a packed lecture hall at the Black Hat hacker conference on Thursday in Las Vegas, the pair demonstrated how they could again take control of the same 2014 Jeep Cherokee they hacked the year before. This time they sent false messages to its internal network, overriding the correct ones.

That allowed them to do new – and scarier – things, such as making the vehicle turn sharply while it was speeding down a country road. They also were able to make the vehicle unintentionally speed up, or remotely slam on its brakes.

“If you can steer a car at any speed, that’s pretty dangerous,” Miller said, as video showed the Jeep turning so hard and fast it left skid marks. Another turn sent it into a ditch alongside a Midwestern cornfield.

The pair’s previous hack only allowed them to do similar things if the Jeep was moving slower than 5 mph, making for a much less dangerous scenario.

    • I guess every car’s computer system ought to be treated as a miniature banking system with each node having full AES encryption. It shouldn’t be that expensive if you design each component from ground up for this. Obviously, the car makers haven’t invested too much thinking about this stuff.

  10. Why don’t they just talk to the guys that have a file on every adult American, cross-referenced and ready for sale? Or, do we really believe that a government agency is incapable of doing what a 1-year-old (company) has done with ease?

Not that they should be doing it, of course, but – this opens a whole lot of questions!

    http://bigstory.ap.org/article/7efad5f542284872b73a0a78ba052824/fbi-chief-calls-national-talk-over-encryption-vs-safety

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The FBI’s director said Friday the agency is collecting data to present next year in hopes of sparking a national conversation about law enforcement’s increasing inability to access encrypted electronic devices.

Speaking Friday at the American Bar Association annual conference in San Francisco, James Comey said the agency was unable to access 650 of 5,000 electronic devices investigators attempted to search over the last 10 months. He said the problem is only going to get worse without a discussion about the technology.

Comey says encryption technology makes it impossible in a growing number of criminal cases to search electronic devices. But he said it’s up to U.S. citizens, rather than the FBI or government officials, to decide whether to modify the technology to help law enforcement access the devices.

    • I consider the US government to be a far greater threat to my freedom than criminals; the encryption advances that private industry promises into the future is a net positive for America. The USPO makes a copy of the front of all mailings for business reasons and somehow that information is kept so that the government can determine if you ordered from a chemical company, if you are an NRA member, if you belong to some anti-police organization and so forth. Your email messages are kept by your service provider long after you’ve deleted them; is it too much to ask them to permanently erase them so that the government cannot recover them? They could easily devise a file system that periodically goes through and does a military-level erase of stored data. I bet that LE has asked the telcos to keep that data around. The government lies to us continually about everything, yet they want to convict people like Martha Steward for lying to THEM. No thanks, put me on a jury and they can shove it. Years ago, the US Congress passed a law preventing the expenditure of taxpayer’s funds for the ATF to computerize the Form 4473s of gun purchases; yet that did not prevent them from bragging about computerizing those forms on ABC television during the Clinton years. Consider the government to be NOT your friend, as they have aptly demonstrated by importing thousands of undesirables, passing and upholding innumerable gun control laws, laughing their asses off as illegals are captured and then RELEASED into the streets in order to intentionally harm US.

  11. Unique Danish research in the Trilateral Commission: “Closed elitarian network has influenced governments for 40 years”
Posted by Nicolai Sennels |10 November 2013

One interesting detail is that Bo Lidegaard, chief editor of the super-political correct Danish national newspaper (that was the only Danish media outlet to apologise to Muslims for printing the Muhammad cartoons) followed Tøger Seidenfaden, who has a leading role within the Bilderberg organisation. It thus seems that these two elitist and potentially very powerful organisations work together to shape our future – including our Soviet style EU, Islamisation, pro-Islamic policy and Muslim immigration…

“Few have probably heard of the Trilateral Commission . Nevertheless, the closed club of leading politicians, influential businessmen and opinion leaders has for 40 years succeeded in influencing governance in North America, Europe and Japan.
Also, a number of prominent Danes have over the years served on the commission: among these are are Margrethe Vestager, Ritt Bjerregaard, formerly Bodil Nyboe Andersen and former director of the Danish Bank Peter Straarup.

    Sets the agendas of governments
As the first scientist ever doctoral Fellow Dino Knudsen from the University of Copenhagen had access to search the commission’s archives:
‘- My research shows that the commission at its meetings sets agendas that governments later bring to life. The commission meets without public scrutiny because it does not want to be guided by public opinion,’ says Dino Knudsen to P1 Morgen

Founded to protect the future of America
The Commission was founded back in 1973 by the American financier David Rockefeller. He and part of the American elite was concerned that the United States was losing its foothold as the world’s leading nation.

It was partly because of the Vietnam War, where there was pressure from the media and popular movements that American foreign policy should no longer be formulated by a narrow elite. This required contact with Japan, which was experiencing strong economic growth and Europe, which was also on the rise economically – thanks mainly to Germany.

So the American elite wanted to strengthen cooperation with Japan and Europe. Therefore they made an enclosed space where you could discuss foreign policy and economic issues – outside the public spotlight.

    Embossed World Bank and IMF
    – In the 1970s, the commission was quick to secure influence in relation to shaping the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund IMF. Jimmy Carter used the commission as a springboard to become president of the United States, says Dino Knudsen to P1 morning.

‘- He acquired important foreign policy experience here, and brought more than 20 members of the Commission into his staff, and placed them in important positions.’

The Commission has over the years moulded many political spheres and many members have since been in top government posts. To qualify to become a member of the commission one must belong to the elite in business, be an important opinion leader or a prominent politician who has the chance of entering a government.

    Several Danish members today
In short, one has to have power. Media and researchers mostly focus on the faces we see in a government, but we also have to realise that the elite is well organized. The commission helps members to shape our society – it has a disproportionate ability to influence the world and it takes place without much attention,’ says Dino Knudsen

Several prominent Danes are today members of the Commission , among others Karsten Dybvad, CEO of Danish Industry, Lars Rohde, director of the National Bank, Lykke Friis , Pro-Rector at the University of Copenhagen and former environment minister and Bo Lidegaard, managing editor of Politiken.”

On Thursday evening an Iraqi asylum seeker in his late 20s stabbed two people and held a knife to a third person’s throat at the Red Cross’s Laajakoski reception centre in Kotka.

According to Arja Vainio, Executive Director of the Finnish Red Cross Southeastern Finland District, the Iraqi man, who was born in 1989, has previously suffered from psychological problems.
