Another cabbie refuses to take a disability dog “because of religion”

This is common everywhere now. Even on busses in Ottawa, Muslim drivers will try and refuse to board people with licensed helper dogs.

Daily Mail has this write up here:

This is the moment a Muslim taxi driver refused to transport a disabled man with his guide dog after claiming it is ‘against his religion’.

Footage shows Charles Bloch, with his guide dog Carlo and girlfriend Jessica Graham, trying to get in the taxi before being told by the driver that he will ‘not take the dog’ because of his religion.

Mr Bloch, who is registered blind after being born visually impaired, had booked the cab using firm ADT Taxis in Leicester but was shocked to be told the driver would not take him upon collection.

His partner, 21, who was also born with a visual impairment and is registered blind, filmed the encounter on her phone and posted the footage – which now been viewed by millions – online.

  1. And nothing will be done, you can prosecute Christians for being religious and not wanting to cater gay marriages but nothing will be done to the Moslems for refusing to take guide dogs.

    • was the cab driver prosecuted for this? Probably not.

The terror cells that carried out the attacks in Paris in November and in Brussels in March were part of a larger network and Salah Abdeslam, the last surviving suspect from the Paris attacks, played a bigger role than was previously thought, terror suspect Mohamed Abrini told Belgian police.

Abrini, who was identified as the “man in the hat,” one of the three terror suspects caught on camera in the Zaventem airport in Brussels, said Abdeslam took care of logistics, according to VTM Nieuws, which obtained details of Abrini’s interrogation.

  3. Power game decides post-arbitration order

As the result of the international arbitration over the South China Sea dispute approaches, China is undertaking a military drill from July 5 to 11 in the waters around the Xisha Islands. In Western media reports, this exercise is happening “at a sensitive time,” because the arbitral result will be announced on July 12. Beijing has announced its position of neither participation in nor recognition of the arbitration.

The South China Sea dispute has been greatly complicated after heavy US intervention. Now an international tribunal has also been included, posing more threat to the integrity of China’s maritime and territorial sovereignty.

Regardless of the principle that the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) shall not arbitrate on territorial disputes, the arbitration becomes nothing but a farce. But the US could use it to impose more pressure on China, causing more tensions in the South China Sea.

Washington has deployed two carrier battle groups around the South China Sea, and it wants to send a signal by flexing its muscles: As the biggest powerhouse in the region, it awaits China’s obedience.

The US will probably project more military power to the West Pacific in a bid to press China militarily and politically.

    • China should prepare for ‘military confrontation’ in South China Sea, newspaper declares

China should prepare itself for military confrontation in the South China Sea, an influential Chinese paper has reported, a week ahead of a decision by an international court on a dispute between China and the Philippines.

Tensions have been rising ahead of a July 12 ruling by an arbitration court in the Dutch city of The Hague.

About $5 trillion in ship-borne trade passes every year though the energy-rich, strategic waters of the South China Sea, where China’s territorial claims overlap in parts with Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan.

In joint editorials in its Chinese and English editions, the state-run Global Times said the dispute, having already been complicated by US intervention, now faces further escalation due to the threat posed by the tribunal to China’s sovereignty.

“Washington has deployed two carrier battle groups around the South China Sea, and it wants to send a signal by flexing its muscles: As the biggest powerhouse in the region, it awaits China’s obedience,” it said.

China should speed up developing its military deterrence abilities, the paper added.

“Even though China cannot keep up with the US militarily in the short-term, it should be able to let the US pay a cost it cannot stand if it intervenes in the South China Sea dispute by force,” it said.

    • Chinese, Japanese warplanes in close encounter

BEIJING: Beijing and Tokyo were at loggerheads on Tuesday (Jul 5) over accusations Japanese warplanes locked their fire control radar onto Chinese aircraft, as state-run Chinese media said the country needed to be ready for “military confrontation” elsewhere.

Beijing has long been embroiled in fierce territorial disputes with Tokyo over Japanese-controlled islands in the East China Sea, and with a host of littoral states over the South China Sea, which it claims almost in its entirety.

Chinese vessels and planes regularly enter waters and airspace near the East China Sea islands, called Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China.

China’s defence ministry late on Monday accused Japanese fighter jets of using their fire control radar to lock onto two Chinese aircraft on “routine patrol” in the Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ) it declared unilaterally in 2013.

The aggressive move generally means an attacker is ready to fire weapons at a target.

Japan’s deputy chief cabinet secretary Koichi Hagiuda denied the accusation on Tuesday, telling reporters that Tokyo’s Self-Defence Forces had scrambled F15 jets to monitor Chinese aircraft.

“There are no facts showing that we took provocative action against Chinese military planes,” he said.

  5. When girlfriend disapproves of dog, man puts up Craigslist ad … with hilarious results

Some people are into pets, others not so much. The girlfriend of a Roanoke, Va., man fell into the latter category. The woman was not all that enamored of his beloved beagle, Molly.

So the man, no doubt with some reluctance, put an ad on Craigslist that included a photo of Molly and a message that began dolefully, “My girlfriend does not like my beagle Molly. SO I have to rehome her.”

The ad went on to indicate that she was a “purebred from a wealthy area,” adding that she’s a little high maintenance” and “stays up all night yapping but sleeps while I work.”

If you are a dog person (yo!) and feel sad over Molly’s fate, you should read the ad, which is reproduced below, in its entirety. I promise, it will make your day.

  7. These guns dispel the myth the founding fathers could never have imagined semiautomatic rifles

A popular gun control mantra is that the founding fathers could not have envisioned semiautomatic rifles when they wrote the Second Amendment. It turns out that idea is bunk.

Research carried out by The Daily Caller News Foundation reveals that “repeater” multi-shot rifles were available even before the Revolutionary period. Furthermore, the founders and leaders from that time period were starkly aware of innovations in small arms manufacturing and technology.

Shortly after the Orlando terrorist attack, the Washington Post sounded a familiar clarion call: Founders meant muskets, not semiautomatic rifles:

Of course, semiautomatic firearms technology didn’t exist in any meaningful sense in the era of the founding fathers. They had something much different in mind when they drafted the Second Amendment. The typical firearms of the day were muskets and flintlock pistols. They could hold a single round at a time, and a skilled shooter could hope to get off three or possibly four rounds in a minute of firing.

An expert in the evolution of small arms flatly disagrees with this blanket statement. William Atwater, curator of the United States Army Ordnance Museum in Aberdeen, Md., told TheDCNF:

[The Founders] lived during the Age of Reason. They celebrated the achievements of the human mind. They had witnessed huge advances in firearms technology — i.e. matchlock giving way to the wheel lock, which, in turn gave way to the flint lock. Each and every one of these developments were [sic] huge in their day. They would have expected small arms to continue to develop.

The idea that firearms technology was static during the 18th/19th Century is bunk. Everyone that used firearms was on the lookout for the next best thing….

One example of the type of weapon the WaPo claims never existed was the Girandoni air rifle used by Lewis and Clark on their westward explorations. No less a forward thinker and innovator than Thomas Jefferson presented the explorers with a Girandoni, which is a repeating rifle capable of firing 22 shots in under a minute without a reload.

    http://libertyunyielding.com/2016/07/04/guns-dispel-myth-founding-fathers-never-imagined-modern-assault-rifles/

    • I looked up the “Girandoni air rifle” used by Lewis and Clark and sure enough, you make your point. The Founding Fathers of America would indeed be aware of the Girandoni air rifle and others like it and would be keenly aware that the technology was advancing rapidly at the time.

Just as we know that computers will be smaller and faster a few years from now, they would have known that semi-automatic and full-automatic weapons were coming, sure as fate. And if you were to ask a soldier of that era what his dream combat weapon would be, he would most likely describe something like an AK-47 or an M-16 because they’re light-weight, easy to maneuver, super reliable, have great stopping power, and they go “bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang”, just like you’d want them to in a gunfight. Hell, some of them even go “rat-a-tat-a- tat”.

Good point. I had no idea…

      • Most people don’t, and for those who wonder how good the air rifle was one of the men on the expedition killed a Grizzly Bear with the air rifle. A small grizzly weighs over 700 pounds and has been known to soak up a lot of high power bullets before they die.

I recall a number of years ago waiting in the limousine queue at Pearson one bitterly cold night. The line was growing ever longer with more and more passengers but the limos were slow in returning for pick-ups. One lady with her pet dog in tow finally reached the head of the queue but was told by her driver that he couldn`t take the dog. The entire line of tired, nearly frozen passengers looked on in amazement as the drive was permitted to pass the passenger with a dog over for another passenger without.

  11. Germany: Dozens of refugees seek sanctuary from deportation in Regensburg Cathedral

Around 40 Roma refugees have sort sanctuary in Regensburg Cathedral, in protest at the German state’s decision to reclassify the Balkan countries, namely Bosnia, Serbia, Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, as ‘safe’ countries of origin.

Bardhoku Bardhok, refugee and protester from Albania, said “We don’t know when the police are coming to pick us up to send us back to our countries, which is why, whether there is a deportation or not, we are here and we get help from the church so that we do not have to go back to Balkans.”

A spokesperson for the Roma refugees stated that they face discrimination in the Balkan countries.

SOT, Bardhoku Bardhok, refugee from Albania (German): “We are here for our protection. The politicians in Germany have said that Balkan people are really[…].and now we are all in a deportation condition. We don’t know when the police are coming to pick us up to send us back to our countries, which is why, whether there is a deportation or not, we are here and we get help from the church so that we do not have to go back to Balkans or Albania because there is a lot of criminality there, lots of problems, the mafia. In Albania, 90 percent live in poverty and are scared of the mafia. Ten percent are rich, the politicians etc.

SOT, Bardhoku Bardhok, refugee from Albania (German): “There are around 40 people; children, women, men. Two, three children are one month (old). There is a three month old, a 11 month old.”

SOT, Jakob Schoetz, press officer from Cathedral (German): “We from the church will take care that the people here so they can sleep in decent conditions. They get camp beds to sleep on. There are a lot of families with children and we will take care that they have food and drink. We will try also to be pastors for them and be ready if they want to talk on a spiritual level. We will get through the help of a paramedic. Basically the first goal is to offer to these people a place where they can sleep in a decent way.”
