Germans react to over the top, government elitism

The other day, German President Gauck made some rather revealing statements which seemed to indicate the contempt the ruling elite have for the people who elected and pay them to represent their interests.

Today it seems, many of the German public expressed their disgust.

Here the police used harsh measures against the protestors. There is no evidence as to why they were necessary.

Here you can see them heaping scorn on him directly. (looking forward to a translation later)

Article here in Europe Online offers the following:

Leipzig, Germany (dpa) – German President Joachim Gauck was met with verbal abuse and rude gestures on Sunday during a visit to the eastern state of Saxony, while eye-witnesses also reported clashes between his supporters and opponents.

Gauck was greeted by a crowd shouting “get lost” and “traitor” as he arrived in the 8,700-strong town of Sebnitz to celebrate the 116th German Hiking Day in so-called Saxon Switzerland, known for its stunning scenery.

The state of Saxony has become notorious for right-wing extremism in recent months and is also home to the controversial Dresden-based movement Pegida, or Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West.

(“Right wing extremism” has come to mean a belief in classically liberal policies such as representative government and the belief that you should be allowed to continue to exist within your own culture and value set)

Oh, my God! That is a true statement. Things have actually shifted so far that your statement has become reality. Those were core values when I was a kid, and now a lot of people think of those things as fascist and hateful and old fashioned. They would rather see an unelected politically correct committee of some kind make all our decisions for us. They actually think that sounds like a good idea.

  2. If I was a German politician I would be checking to make sure my passport is current and that I had some place I can run to in the near future.
