“I’ve lost count of the Lib Dem party conferences where activists have called for sexual relations to be legalised at the age of 12 or 14. I can still recall a decade ago, Don Foster, the party’s culture spokesman, successfully calling for 16-year-olds to be allowed to visit sex shops and buy pornography. ‘Matters of taste should have no role in censorship,’ he said. Foster is now a Lib Dem peer.” – Andrew Pierce

“A British member of parliament has reportedly been shot after a town hall meeting.

Police have confirmed in a statement that “a woman in her 40s” had “suffered serious injuries and is in a critical condition.” The British Press Association reported that the woman was Jo Cox, a Labour Party MP who is known for her work on Syria-related issues.

Another man, described to be in his late 40s to early 50s, also suffered slight injuries.

A 52-year-old man was arrested near the shooting in Birstall, West Yorkshire, according to police. An eyewitness told Sky News that he saw a man in a baseball cap suddenly pull a gun from his bag.

Police presence in the area has been increased as a reassurance to the community.

The motives of the attacker are unknown at this stage.”

“LABOUR MP Jo Cox has been shot and stabbed in an attack by a man shouting ‘”Britain First”, with her condition described “critical”.

A huge police investigation is underway in Birstall, West Yorkshire, after Jo Cox, the Labour MP for the West Yorkshire seat Batley and Spen was injured.

The MP’s office has confirmed she was hurt in the attack, which took place while she was conducting a surgery for her constituents at Birstall Library.

The 41-year-old was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary, where a spokesman for West Yorkshire Police confirmed she sustained “serious injuries and is in a critical condition”.

They added a 52-year-old man has been arrested.

Also injured in the attack was a man said to be in his 50s, who suffered “slight injuries”.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing three shots and police wrestling a man to the ground.

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/syria-panel-committing-genocide-yazidis-39897481

“A U.N. investigative panel on Syria says the Islamic State group is committing genocide, crimes against humanity and other war crimes against the Yazidi community in Iraq and Syria, and wants countries to do more to stop it — hoping to build a legal case on top of political condemnation from countries like the United States.

The Commission of Inquiry on Syria issued its first report Thursday specifically looking at IS crimes against Yazidis after the extremist group’s attack on unarmed Yazidi communities in northwestern Iraq in August 2014. Many Yazidis were taken into Syria, and over 3,200 Yazidi women and children are still captive, the report said…”

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/russian-fm-us-spares-al-qaidas-branch-topple-39903209

“Russia’s foreign minister said Thursday that he believes the U.S. may hope to use al-Qaida’s branch in Syria to unseat Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government.

Addressing an economic forum in St. Petersburg, Sergey Lavrov argued that the reluctance of U.S.-backed Syrian opposition groups to distance themselves from al-Qaida’s branch in Syria, the Nusra Front, has been a major reason behind continuing fighting.

He said the U.S. could be “playing some kind of game here, and they may want to keep Nusra in some form and use it to topple the regime.”

Lavrov added that he raised the issue in a recent phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who he said denied any such plans. “But why then the Americans with all their potential can’t force the units they have been working with to leave the territories controlled by bandits and terrorists,” he said.

Lavrov was commenting on Kerry’s warning that Washington is losing its patience with Russia, as the U.S.- and Russia-brokered cease-fire in Syria was at risk mainly due to violations by Assad’s forces with Russian air support…”

  5. Pakistan: Woman arrested over ‘acid attack’ on man (BBC, June 16, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-36549060

“A woman in Pakistan has been arrested after allegedly throwing acid on a man who had refused to marry her.

The man, who is in his 20s, is being treated in hospital in Multan after suffering burns to 50% of his body.

His family say the couple were having a relationship but he did not want to marry her. The woman says she acted in self-defence after being attacked.

Hundreds of acid attacks are reported in Pakistan each year but it is rare for men to be the victims.

The incident in Multan took place in the early hours of Tuesday. Local journalists say the man was seen stumbling out of the woman’s house, screaming and covered with acid…”

“Acid attacks in Muslim countries are rising, though generally unpunished. One Pakistan city, the size of Los Angeles, last year had five times more acid attacks than LA had murders. Is Islamic ‘culture’ to blame?”

TEL AVIV – As the debate over Donald Trump’s proposed wall along the U.S.-Mexico border continues to dominate the presidential race, Israel is reportedly planning to move ahead with a massive above and underground concrete barrier along the entire border with the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.

The barrier was revealed on Thursday in a story splashed across the cover of Yedioth Aharonot, Israel’s largest daily newspaper. The story was published with the approval of the country’s defense ministry.[…]

  8. C N N ! ! ! – CIA director warns ISIS terror capability not slowed despite battle losses

CNN ISIS has a “large cadre of Western fighters” who could attack in the West and is continuing to inspire sympathizers with no “direct links” to ISIS to attack on their own as it did in Orlando, the director of the CIA will warn this morning, according to excerpts of his statement to the Senate provided to CNN.

“We judge that ISIL is training and attempting to deploy operatives for further attacks. ISIL has a large cadre of Western fighters who could potentially serve as operatives for attacks in the West. And the group is probably exploring a variety of means for infiltrating operatives into the West, INCLUDING REFUGEE FLOWS , smuggling routes, and legitimate methods of travel,” CIA Director John Brennan will tell the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday morning.

Brennan also says despite all the efforts by the U.S. against ISIS, it has not stopped the group.

“Unfortunately, despite all our progress against ISIL on the battlefield and in the financial realm, our efforts have not reduced the group’s terrorism capability and global reach,” Brennan will say.
“The resources needed for terrorism are very modest, and the group would have to suffer even heavier losses of territory, manpower and money for its terrorist capacity to decline significantly,” Brennan will say. “In fact, as the pressure mounts on ISIL, we judge that it will intensify its global terror campaign to maintain its dominance of the global terrorism agenda.”

Brennan will say the group has lost “large stretches” of territory in Iraq and Syria, has experienced a reduction of finances, and has struggled to replenish its ranks as fewer foreign fighters have been traveling to those countries.

Beyond the territory ISIS holds in Iraq and Syria, Brennan says the group’s growing presence in Libya presents significant challenges of its own.

“The branch in L I B Y A is probably the most developed and the most dangerous,” Brennan says, echoing concerns by other security officials that Libya’s close proximity to Europe is a problem.

“We assess that it is trying to increase its influence in Africa and to plot attacks in the region and in Europe.”

=> Supports trials of Islamic terrorists in civilian courts rather than in military tribunals
=> In 2011, he called for the FBI to eliminate its “offensive” curriculum/training materials which made reference to “jihad” and “radical Islam.”

        • ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON JOHN BRENNAN

          * During Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, three State Department workers—including one who also was employed by the Analysis Corporation, where Brennan was CEO—improperly accessed passport information pertaining to Obama, Hillary Clinton (Obama’s Democratic primary challenger), and Republican presidential nominee John McCain. Author Jerome Corsi suggested that Brennan might have played a role in “what many suspect was an effort to sanitize Obama’s passport records” (i.e., remove damaging information). In a similar vein, blogger Pamela Geller speculated that the State Department employees had “rifled through Clinton’s and McCain’s files to make it look as if it was all three, but it was Obama’s passport records that they accessed.” In April 2008, while an investigation into these passport-related transgressions was ongoing, a key witness in the case was found murdered in his car.

          * In August 2009, Scottish authorities released Abdelbaset al-Megrahi—the Libyan terrorist convicted of the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland—because he was said to be in the late stages of terminal prostate cancer. Describing the release as “unfortunate, inappropriate, and wrong,” Brennan publicly called for Megrahi’s reimprisonment. But The Sunday Times subsequently obtained Obama administration documents which revealed that the White House had secretly told Scottish authorities that a compassionate release of the prisoner would be more palatable than his transfer to a Libyan prison.

          * In April 2012 Brennan was the first Obama administration official to publicly acknowledge the CIA’s drone-attack program targeting terrorists in Pakistan, Yemen, Somolia, Libya, Afghanistan, and elsewhere. He described the strikes as being legal, ethical, necessary, and proportional.

          * In a May 2012 teleconference, Brennan revealed some highly sensitive information that, in turn, was relayed to the press by one of the other parties to the call—Richard Clarke, former chief of counter-terrorism in the Clinton White House. This highly serious intelligence leak blew the cover of secrecy off of an active counterterrorism operation in which the British and Saudi intelligence agencies had successfully placed an operative deep inside al Qaeda’s organization in the Arabian Peninsula. Consequently, the initiative had to be terminated immediately, enraging America’s foreign intelligence allies.

          * Also in May 2012, Judicial Watch reported that Brennan and other White House officials had met twice with Hollywood filmmakers during their production of a movie about the killing of Osama bin Laden. According to Patrick Poole, these meetings furnished the movie crews with “unparalleled access including the identity of a SEAL Team 6 operator and commander along with other classified information.”

“Amazingly,” added Poole, “these high-level White House meetings between Brennan and the Hollywood filmmakers took place just weeks after the Pentagon and CIA had publicly warned of the dangers posed by leaks surrounding the successful SEAL raid killing bin Laden.”

National security nightmare: John Brennan and the notorious flying imam

[Feb. 17, 2010] While national security deputy John Brennan’s comments downplaying the seriousness of Gitmo jihadi recidivism earned most of the headlines this weekend, his exchange at the same event at an NYU Islamic students’ event with an infamous Muslim grievance-monger is crying out for greater exposure.
            […]
It’s bad enough that John Brennan, President Obama’s national security deputy, thinks Gitmo jihadi recidivism is “not that bad.” But in his talk last week with Islamic law students at New York University, Brennan made even more reckless comments about our counterterrorism programs while pandering to one of the worst Muslim grievance-mongers and sharia peddlers in America.

During the question-and-answer session, Brennan welcomed a question from Omar Shahin. He identified himself as the head of the “North American Imams Federation.” What he didn’t mention was his role as the chief ringleader of the infamous flying imams. You remember them: They were the six Muslim clerics whose suspicious behavior – provocatively shouting “Allahu Akbar!” before boarding the plane, fanning out in the cabin before take-off, refusing to sit in their assigned seats, requesting seat-belt extenders, which they placed on the floor – led to their removal by a U.S. Airways crew in 2006.

    • BREITBART – DHS Whistleblower Philip Haney: Islamist ‘Self-Radicalization’ Is a ‘Surreal’ Myth

Former Department of Homeland Security official Philip Haney wishes he was more surprised by the Orlando terrorist attack, but as he pointed out on Breitbart News Daily this week, the attack came from exactly the sort of Islamic radical network he got in trouble for studying too carefully.

Indeed, one of the major points he stressed during a follow-up interview is that many of the purported barriers between these networks are bureaucratic illusions — they are larger, better-funded, and more interconnected than the Obama administration wants to admit.

I asked Haney about the false, but very loudly repeated, administration narrative that Orlando jihadi Omar Mateen was “self-radicalized” — an assertion that grows more ridiculous with each new revelation about his background.

Haney described the self-radicalization narrative as “surreal.”

“Imagine what it must have been like to be an active-duty subject matter expert in counter-terrorism,” he said:

I had my own superiors making these kind of statements incessantly. When I was sitting there with evidence, for example, about the Ft. Pierce mosque – not only was there another person that blew himself up in Syria, but there’s an individual who is teaching a radicalization course who is on early release for weapons charges and tax fraud. And then his own father is vice-president of the mosque.

“As though nobody knew anything – that’s completely preposterous,” he said. “If you know anything about the Islamic worldview, family and community is ultimately central to everything they do. The concept of operating alone is anathema to the Islamic worldview. They just don’t do it.”

“So, self-radicalization – what does that even mean any more?” he asked. “Nobody is self-anything in this world we live in.”

I suggested that one of the driving forces behind the self-radicalization narrative is that it protects the Obama administration from charges that it dropped the ball on counterterrorism, portraying terrorists like Mateen as thunderbolts nobody could have seen coming.

Haney laughed derisively at the idea of pushing that excuse when we know Mateen was interviewed on multiple occasions by the FBI. He compared it to the way President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton blamed the Benghazi terror attack on a “spontaneous video protest,” a false narrative meant to get them off the hook for being so completely unprepared to deal with the crisis. In both Benghazi and Orlando, red flags were ignored, and now they are retroactively denied.

“They say radicalization is ‘sudden.’ Well, a rocket launch looks very sudden, if you don’t know about all the months of hard work it took to get that rocket onto the launch pad,” Haney observed.

He denounced these political games as dangerously cynical.

“That’s when the false narrative morphs into an ominous malevolent entity, because the President is contradicting his own law enforcement agencies,” he observed.

Another false narrative he criticized was the fiction that radical Islamic organizations won’t cooperate, especially if they fall on opposite sides of the Sunni-Shiite divide. Haney stressed that obedience to sharia law — which he said radicals across the sectarian spectrum are “eighty percent in agreement on” — and the desire to impose it upon secular governments was a powerful common interest.

“It’s like the solar system, and sharia is the Sun,” he said of the Muslim continuum. To extend the analogy, radical groups might be seen as the outer planets, and the asteroid belt isn’t as wide as politically-correct U.S. government ideology portrays it.

Haney noted that Omar Mateen’s father is a supporter of the Taliban in Afghanistan, whose name is derived from the word for “student,” and “sharia law is what they study.” The centrality of the Islamic legal code to radicals cannot be overstated; he observed that all of them list imposing sharia as one of their primary goals and believe strict adherence to sharia is a defining attribute of true Islamic faith.

This is precisely the understanding that the Obama administration aggressively prevents counterintelligence analysts from reaching. Haney noted analysts are not supposed to discuss concepts like sharia or jihad because such discussion is deemed “insensitive” to non-radicalized Muslims. The mindset of studied indifference stretches all the way to the top, as demonstrated by the root-canal difficulty of getting President Obama and Hillary Clinton to use the phrase “radical Islam.”

We have at least moved past the point where the dominant liberal media and government culture denies sharia law — not long ago, it was portrayed as a figment of bigoted imagination by paranoids out in flyover country — but they are still very uncomfortable discussing what it says, or the integral role it plays in religious tradition and politics.

The preferred administration mindset is a generic effort to “counter violent extremism,” which Haney saw as distracting investigators from the dots they should be connecting — almost a quota program that obliges analysts to look for enough non-Islamic “violent extremists” to balance the books.

He also noted that “Countering Violent Extremism” was the name of a specific administration program that came to a bad end, after a half-hearted pilot program in a few large cities, in large measure because of opposition from groups like the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), which helped design the program in the first place.

Haney cited reports that just days before the Orlando atrocity, the Homeland Security Advisory Council submitted a “Countering Violent Extremism” report to Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, which instructed Homeland Security officials to avoid even saying the words “sharia,” “jihad,” or “umma” — another important concept, envisioning a Muslim community that extends beyond national borders, which Haney described as vital to understanding the radical mindset.

The handicap our government is placing upon itself is obvious. The Obama administration would forbid intelligence and law enforcement officials from talking about sharia, jihad, and the umma, but Islamist radicals and terrorist recruiters are eager to use those terms in their recruiting efforts. The battlefield of ideas is ceded entirely to the enemy. Of course, everything the enemy does comes as a stunning surprise to the administration.

Haney pointed out that “collaboration with unbelievers” against the Faithful is treated as a form of apostasy under sharia law, which motivates groups like CAIR to distance themselves from law enforcement efforts.

He mentioned an infamous 2011 poster produced by CAIR that explicitly instructed Muslims to “Build a Wall of Resistance” and told them, “Don’t Talk to the FBI” — with an FBI agent caricatured as a menacing shadowy figure. A CAIR spokesman amusingly admitted that the poster could be “subject to misinterpretation,” as if there was anything subtle or ambiguous about the message it sent.

CAIR has been declared a terrorist organization by the United Arab Emirates and was named by federal prosecutors as an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas-funding operation.

Haney’s key point, offered from the perspective of a veteran analyst, is that attitudes and practices like this are not solely the province of radicals and terrorists. This is not the same as saying every Muslim teeters on the edge of radicalism and violence. Rather, it is essential for analysts to understand that radical groups are not inventing concepts like sharia law out of thin air. Radical recruiters are not using wholly alien concepts when they appeal to their subjects.

That is a direct contradiction of President Obama’s policy, with roots stretching back to the Bush administration, of insisting that there is a bright and absolute barrier between “true” Islam and “false” terrorist and radical groups.

Haney also warned not to underestimate the reach of radical groups, which are portrayed as a tiny minority by U.S. government dogma, largely alienated from the mainstream Muslim world. In truth, his research at the National Targeting Center kept leading up to large umbrella organizations like the Deobandi group and Tablighi Jamaat, which is tied to the mosque attended by the Mateen family. It was his Tablighi Jamaat investigation that he thought might have intercepted the San Bernardino bombers if it had not been scuttled for politically correct reasons.

These umbrella groups grew big and fast with Saudi money behind them, and they occupy the queasy space where politically-correct American officials fear to gaze: groups that are not explicitly terrorist and are not “radical” enough to be explicitly denounced as such by the U.S. government, for fear of being insensitive. But they are organized, influential, and pushing beliefs that are not in sync with our government’s ideal of mainstream, moderate Islam.

When I wondered if politicians like Obama and Clinton could define exactly what “radical Islam” is, Haney said that was a more important point than getting them to use the phrase. “They’re not really allowed to use the words it would take to answer the question,” he observed, pointing back at that Homeland Security report on Countering Violent Extremism.

It is not a semantic game. Terrorists and violent jihadis are few in number among Muslims living in the West, but they are surrounded by a much larger pool of radicals, whose activities are not usually blatantly illegal. Those radicals, in turn, project a sphere of influence considerably beyond their own numbers.

That influence includes politicians and advocacy groups, many of them not Muslim themselves, who make it difficult for analysts to study radical groups clearly, as Haney discovered during his time at Homeland Security. We can measure the resulting catastrophe by observing how often our government officials claim to be stunned by headline-grabbing cases of “sudden self-radicalization.”

    • Panetta: Trump Accused the President of Treason

Thursday on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” former Obama administration Director of the Central Intelligence Agency and Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta said presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is “accusing the president of the United States of treason and collaborating with the enemy.”

Panetta said, “Well, I have to tell you in 50 years of public life, I have never experienced a major party candidate making the accusations and raising the innuendos that Donald Trump raised, particularly at this moment of crisis. My experience is when this country has been attacked, this country comes together and unifies and builds a consensus about how we protect ourselves in the future. What Trump is doing is the exact opposite.”

“He’s not only accusing the president of the United States of treason and collaborating with the enemy, but in many ways what he’s saying about restricting Muslims from coming into this country, doing surveillance on Muslim mosques is basically aiding and abetting the enemy at a time when we ought to be unifying, working with the Muslim community to try to prevent against future attacks,” he continued. “I think it’s the most irresponsible and reckless kind of behavior I’ve ever seen in a major presidential candidate.”

PARIS (AP) — A psychologically troubled man with links to radical Islam has been detained in southern France suspected of plotting possible attacks on American and Russian tourists and police, authorities said Thursday, amid renewed fears about Islamic State threats to France.

The man has been under surveillance for radicalism after bragging online about wanting to kill people, and has an “unstable” psychological profile, a security official said. “Islamic State militants are frequently transported across the Syrian border to Turkish hospitals for treatment, according to eyewitness accounts collected by RT on the ground. Their crossing was allegedly ensured by Turkish officials.

Both Islamic State (IS, previously ISIS/ISIL) and Free Syrian Army fighters were able to cross the border from Syria into Turkey en masse and receive medical help – only to then be allowed to go back to resume fighting in Syria, the head of a local doctors’ association told RT’s Lizzie Phelan.

Phelan visited Gaziantep, a city in south-central Turkey some 60 kilometers from the Syrian border. Eyewitnesses and doctors told the RT correspondent that most of the IS fighters were treated in the border city of Kilis south of Gaziantep.

“Many wounded ISIS militants or FSA [Free Syrian Army] fighters were brought to the border in pick-up trucks, not ambulances,” Medical Association Chair in Gaziantep and Kilis Hamza Agca said. “Many were unconscious and bleeding when they were brought to us.”

The injured men were apparently driven right from a “war zone” and doctors often had to deal with things like “grenades falling out of their pockets,” Agca added.

One doctor from Kilis also confirmed to RT that they were receiving fighters from across the Turkish-Syrian border, including IS militants. The doctor said on condition of anonymity that he was just one of the doctors who treated terrorists in Kilis.

  13. Muslims report potential Islamic extremists to authorities – FBI director (RT, June 16, 2016)
    https://www.rt.com/usa/346991-muslims-report-extremists-fbi/

“The director of the FBI says that Muslims report those from their religion whom they fear are turning to radical Islam. His remarks are contrary to a recent statement from Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

“They do not want people committing violence, either in their community or in the name of their faith, and so some of our most productive relationships are with people who see things and tell us things who happen to be Muslim,” FBI Director James Comey said at a press conference…”

  15. Father of American Killed in Paris Attacks Sues Twitter, Facebook, Google (nbcnews, June 16, 2016)
    http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/paris-terror-attacks/family-american-killed-paris-attacks-sues-twitter-facebook-google-n593351

“The father of the only American killed in the November terrorist attacks on Paris is suing Twitter, Facebook and Google, alleging the companies knowingly allow members of ISIS to use their platforms, according to court documents.

The suit, filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court for Northern California by the father of Nohemi Gonzalez, seeks damages to be determined at a jury trial.

The suit is “not about money,” the family’s attorney, Keith Altman, told NBC News. “Google shares the profits with ISIS and these extremist groups. By their terms of service, in order to you on YouTube (a Google subsidiary), you have to submit your articles for monetization to Google. Then they start putting ads on our pages and sharing revenue with you.”

Gonzalez, 23, of El Monte, California, a student at California State University-Long Beach, was among 130 people who were killed Nov. 13 in coordinated attacks across Paris. ISIS claimed responsibility.

The suit claims Twitter, Facebook and Google — through its YouTube service — provided “material support” to ISIS without which “the explosive growth of ISIS over the last few years into the most-feared terrorist group in the world would not have been possible.”

“This material support has been instrumental to the rise of ISIS and has enabled it to carry out numerous terrorist attacks, including the Nov. 13, 2015, attacks in Paris where more than 125 were killed, including Nohemi Gonzalez,” the suit claims.

  16. TURKEY – A Turkish call to massacre LGBT community

At a time when the world is mourning the massacre of 49 people at a gay night club in Orlando, a new massacre is being brewed by Islamists and a far-right nationalist group in Istanbul.

One day after a group called the Anatolia Muslim Youth Association (MAG) called for an “intervention” against the “immoral” LGBT Pride March to be held on June 26 in Istanbul’s Taksim, the Alperen Hearths, an ultranationalist youth organization linked to the nationalist Great Union Party (BBP), threatened on June 14 to “take all risks necessary to stop the march.”

Vowing not to allow “immoral people to perform their fantasies,” the organization’s Istanbul provincial head, Kür?at Mican, told journalists that the Alperen Hearths vowed to give a “very clear and harsh response” if the state did not interfere.

“They can do whatever they want by gathering somewhere, but we definitely don’t want them to walk naked on the sacred soil of our country in the blessed month of Ramadan,” Mican said, playing the sure-to-work Ramadan card.

“Dear state officials, who close your eyes and ears to this immorality and allow this, we are calling on you to perform your duties to stop this immorality. Otherwise the Alperen Hearths, who are the representatives of the people, will perform their duties on this soil, which was passed to us from our ancestors,” he added.

In a normal democratic country where there are laws to protect citizens from mass murder-planning idiots, this guy would have been detained and charged with a hate crime. On paper, Turkey is such a country. We have an article in the Turkish Penal Code that reads: “Any person who openly provokes a group of people belonging to different social class, religion, race, sect, or coming from another origin, to be rancorous or hostile against another group, is punished with imprisonment from one to three years in the event that such an act causes a risk from the aspect of public safety.”

Unfortunately, this article is rarely remembered when there is an open call for an attack on the LGBT community, or if the target group in such an action includes members of the non-Muslim communities, Alevis, atheists, etc. You can go on state television in Turkey and say that those who do not perform Muslim prayers are animals and get away with it.

But whatever you do, do not dare to criticize some practices of Islam, or make remarks that could be interpreted in that way. Just ask world-renowned pianist Faz?l Say, who was sentenced to 10 months in prison for violating Article 216 after retweeting several lines attributed to 11th century Persian poet Omar Khayyam.

An application by organizers to hold the Pride March is still pending approval at the Istanbul Governor’s Office. When asked about it following a cabinet meeting on June 13, Deputy Prime Minister Nurettin Canikli dodged the question, saying “the relevant authorities will decide on the permission.”

In the wake of such bloody threats, which go unnoticed by the police and the prosecutors, it will be no surprise when the Governor’s Office says the march will not be allowed on security reasons.

Life has never been easy for the LGBT community in Turkey, with many gay people falling victim to hate crimes and “honor” killings. But if the authorities cannot (or do not want to) provide the security of the participants of a march held once every year (or if they are thinking of ordering the police to attack the march as they did last year), maybe they should officially declare homosexuality illegal and see where this takes us.

Finally, I’ll leave to the experts the debate about whether those who are most vocal against homosexuality are in fact themselves closet gays.

  17. The UN’s warning to Syrian smokers is beyond parody

You really can’t make this stuff up. With hundreds of thousands of people dead and millions fleeing for their lives, the failed state of Syria is being told by the World Health Organisation to concentrate on… plain packaging.

In a statement last week, the UN health agency warned that ‘notwithstanding the current crisis in the country,’ Syrian officials should collaborate with the UN health agency to control the use of tobacco and water pipes among its people, especially young adults, women and teenagers. This is rather like telling passengers on the Titanic that ‘notwithstanding the iceberg’ they should collaborate with staff to tidy away the deckchairs.

WHO’s Syria representative, Dr. Elizabeth Hoff, warned that using tobacco and water pipes endangers the health and lives of smokers and people around them. Hoff said using water pipes to smoke shisha, a common pastime in the Middle East, is 20 times more dangerous than cigarette smoking. That would make cigarettes 95 per cent safer than shisha which is obviously nonsense. There is a shortage of good evidence on the health risks of shisha but that doesn’t justify making stuff up.

Despite believing that cigarettes are much, much safer than shisha, it is cigarettes the WHO are going after, presumably because they can’t apply their risible plain packaging policy to waterpipes. Hoff urged Syrian officials to implement a ‘plain packaging’ approach for cigarettes to reduce their ‘attractiveness and glamour’.

If you ever doubted that the WHO has lost its way, here is the proof. It has been taken over by western idiots who obsess over micromanaging personal lifestyles and waging war on ‘Big Tobacco, Big Food, Big Soda, and Big Alcohol’ while the developing world literally burns.

Syria’s war is estimated to have killed several hundred thousand people amid the rise of the Islamic State group. But Dr. Ahmad Khlefawy, Syria’s deputy minister of health, said the war cannot be an excuse for Syrians to endanger their lives by consuming tobacco. We’ve gone well beyond parody here, folks.

The irony is that parts of Syria already have a very – what’s the word? – comprehensive tobacco control strategy in place already courtesy of the lads from Isis. Smoking is banned in territory controlled by Islamic State, with punishments ranging from whipping to execution. The anti-smoking teetotallers of Isis appear to be losing ground in Syria and Iraq. Perhaps that’s what the WHO is worried about?

Amid war, UN warns Syrians smoking is a grave health risk

LONDON (AP) – The World Health Organization has identified another grave risk to the health of Syrians in their war-torn country: tobacco.

In a statement last week, the U.N. health agency warned that “notwithstanding the current crisis in the country,” Syrian officials should collaborate with the U.N. health agency to control the use of tobacco and water pipes among its people, especially young adults, women and teenagers.

She urged Syrian officials to implement a “plain packaging” approach for cigarettes to reduce their “attractiveness and glamour.”

Syria’s war is estimated to have killed several hundred thousand people amid the rise of the Islamic State group. But Dr. Ahmad Khlefawy, Syria’s deputy minister of health, said the war cannot be an excuse for Syrians to endanger their lives by consuming tobacco. He noted that Syria was one of the first countries to sign WHO’s global framework on tobacco control and to prohibit public smoking.

Smoking is also banned by Islamic State, which considers the habit to be against the tenets of Islam. The militants punish smokers by whipping them.

  19. Orlando Nightclub Shooter’s Wife Can Cancel Her Next 50 Ramadans After This News! via Wayne Dupree.com

“This woman is guilty just like Hillary Clinton. I keep hearing doubt that she was the cause of the problem but as facts continue to leak, she helped. She knew and did nothing. She’s responsible and should have to pay the price. Yes, Omar Mateen was a coward who thought he would go out in a blaze of glory and receive some hero status by killing those Americans in the Orlando nightclub. He’s dirt right now, let the maggots do their thing.

Mateen’s wife texted the killer while he was doing his damage, letting her sick beau know that she loved him so while he was asking was the murdering that was taking place on TV.

Remember, she drove him to scope out the nightclub so why isn’t she a part of the crime?”

  20. Study: Large number of Turks in Germany put Islam above the law (DW, June 16, 2016)
    http://www.dw.com/en/study-large-number-of-turks-in-germany-put-islam-above-the-law/a-19336757

“Germany may be home, but many don’t feel accepted: A new study reveals what ethnic Turks think about religion and integration, with many putting Islam above the law and some even justifying violence to expand Islam.

The authors of the study were pleased with some of their results: 90 percent of the people of Turkish origin surveyed said they feel comfortable in Germany. Eighty-seven percent said that they feel closely or very closely connected to Germany. That’s 2 percent more than the number who said they felt a close connection to Turkey.

“We didn’t expect that,” said Detlef Pollack, spokesman for the Excellence Cluster “Religion and Politics” at the University of Münster. The university commissioned an opinion research institute to survey 1,200 Turkish immigrants and their children for the study.

More positive outlook than East Germans

The representative survey, titled “Integration and religion from the perspective of people of Turkish origin,” includes more surprises. In some respects, most of the people surveyed had a more positive view of the situation in Germany than many Germans themselves.

“If you compare Turkish immigrants with East Germans, you see that East Germans feel they’ve been treated more unfairly in reunified Germany than Turkish immigrants do,” said Pollack while presenting the results of the study in Berlin.

But that’s not to say that Turkish immigrants don’t have any complaints. Some 54 percent of respondents agreed with the statement: “No matter how hard I try, I am not accepted as a part of German society.”

Too few executives of Turkish origin

That doesn’t come as a surprise for Gökay Sofuoglu, chairman of the Turkish Community in Germany (TGD). His association represents around 200 Turkish organizations in the country. “The results of the study are in line with the observations I make on a daily basis,” Sofuoglu told DW. He says that rejection and discrimination are part of everyday life for many people of Turkish origin living in Germany. Climbing the career ladder is still particularly difficult. “If you look at city administrations, public service or schools, it’s still very rare to see Turkish people in leadership positions,” said Sofuoglu.

The researchers from Münster also say more attention needs to be paid to the particular situation of Turkish people in Germany. “The message to the majority population is that we should be more sensitive to the problems that people of Turkish origin encounter. At the same time, it’s also true that many Turkish immigrants feel very comfortable here,” said Pollack.

TGD Chairman Sofuoglu thinks both sides have a responsibility. He says the German state should show more respect for the Turkish language and for Islam, and ensure that everyone who has lived here for a long time can vote in municipal elections. But he adds that there’s work to be done by Turkish immigrants and Turkish organizations as well. “The Turkish associations need to participate more, show more loyalty to the German state and the German constitution,” said Sofuoglu.

    High willingness to accept violence

A perceived lack of acceptance has consequences: “It’s our view that this feeling of not being accepted is expressed in the vehement defense of Islam,” Pollack said. Half of all the respondents said that Islam is the only true religion.

Almost half of those surveyed agreed with the following statement: “It is more important to obey religious laws than state laws.”

Some 36 percent said that only Islam is in a position to resolve the current problems facing society, and 7 percent said violence is justified if the aim is the expansion of Islam.

“You have to take this seriously. The willingness to accept violence is significantly high,”
said Pollack. “This is, of course, also a sounding board for the perpetration of violent acts,” the study’s author said. The antidote to fundamentalism is a well-known combination: education, solid German skills, jobs, and social contact with non-Muslims.”

“European Union member states are still handling more than a million asylum requests, according to Eurostat figures updated at the end of March.

At the end of March 2015 the figure was just over half that level, at 560,000.

With 473,000 requests under examination (47% of the EU total), Germany has for a long time been dealing with the highest number, followed by Sweden (147,300, 15%), Austria (84,500, 8%), Italy (60,000, 6%) and France (42,900, 4%).

The first quarter of 2016, nevertheless, has seen a decline in asylum requests in Europe compared to the last quarter of 2015: in total there were 287,085 new requests against 426,000 in the last three months of 2015.

Italy received 22,335 new asylum requests in the first three months of the year, putting it in second place for numbers received after Germany, who recorded 175,000 new requests (61%).”

“Two policemen were shot dead on Thursday morning in Al Arish of North Sinai, Egypt’s interior ministry said.

Four masked gunmen approached the house where the two policemen were staying in the North Sinai provincial capital Al-Arish and opened fire on them, the ministry added in a statement.

Egypt has seen a spike in militant activity since the 2013 ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi, with most of the attacks occurring in the North Sinai region bordering the Gaza Strip.

The violence has mainly targeted police and army personnel and at times has occurred in the capital Cairo and other places on the Egyptian mainland.”
