  1. A SNAPSHOT of the global state of peace and violence has revealed Australia, along with much of the rest of the world, has become an increasingly dangerous place over the past year.
The Institute of Economic and Peace (IEP), has ranked 163 countries from safest to most dangerous on the 10th edition of the Global Peace Index.

  2. The main locations of wreckage from the EgyptAir jet that crashed in the eastern Mediterranean last month have been identified by a vessel owned by Deep Ocean Search, the Egyptian-led investigation committee said Wednesday.

The John Lethbridge, a search boat contracted by the Egyptian government, is working against the clock to locate the “black boxes” that investigators say will help explain why Flight MS804 crashed on May 19, killing all 66 people on board.

Signals from the flight data recorders needed to track them down on the seabed are expected to expire on June 24.

  3. ‘Cause it worked so well for Charlie Hebdo – in one of the most gun-regulated bits of the world!!!

(CNSNews.com) – The United Nations’ human rights chief called on the United States Tuesday to enforce more effective gun control measures in the aftermath of the Orlando terrorist attack, dismissing as “irresponsible pro-gun propaganda” the notion that firearms make societies safer.

U.N. human rights commissioner Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein urged the U.S. government to live up to its obligations to protect citizens from the “horrifyingly commonplace but preventable violent attacks that are the direct result of insufficient gun control.”

“Examples from many countries clearly show that a legal framework to control the acquisition and use of firearms has led to a dramatic reduction in violent crime,” said Zeid.

  4. Well, at least one country’s government cares!!!

MANILA, Philippines — Enraged by the beheading of a second Canadian hostage by ransom-seeking Abu Sayyaf extremists, Philippine troops pressed a major offensive in the south Tuesday but there was no sign of an end to the small but brutal insurgency that a new president will inherit in about two weeks.

  5. Alexander Maistrovoy:
The primordial world of Middle Eastern Islam

The Islamic world of the Middle East is sinking into the gloomy and forgotten past: the Bronze Age, the world of slavery, human sacrifice, pedophilia, sexual sacred traditions, beliefs in conspiracies and now the most terrible — ritual cannibalism.

    Beaten dogs and “donkeys-occupiers”

In the 1990s, while working on an article about homeless animals, I visited a shelter for dogs and cats located between Jerusalem and Ramallah.

The director of the shelter told me about the miserable life of his pets, lamented how many dogs from Arab villages were brought here in terrible condition: they were beaten, held under the scorching sun starving, got rid of when they were not needed.

Why? He could not give a clear answer. Only later I learned that such attitude to dogs is the norm for Muslims here, because dogs, according to Islam, are “unclean animals.”

Dogs are not the only victims of “Palestinian frustration.” In 2000, the Englishwoman Lucy Fensom set up Safe Haven for Donkeys in the Holy Land to help old and sick donkeys that were abandoned by Arabs as useless. Donkeys are subject to regular abuse by Palestinian teenagers; “fighters against occupants” use them as “shahids” tying explosives to them and sending them to Israelis. There is another kind of entertainment: They paint a donkey in the colors of the Israeli flag, torture it, burn out the Star of David on it, pour over gasoline, and set it on fire.
