  1. Egypt army says 13 militants killed in North Sinai (ahram, May 23, 2016)
    http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/1/64/217431/Egypt/Politics-/Egypt-army-says–militants-killed-in-North-Sinai-.aspx

“Egypt’s army announced on Monday that it carried out “successful pre-emptive strikes against terrorist elements,” killing 13 militants in northern and central Sinai following a shootout.

The army spokesman said in an official statement that third field army units were able to neutralise or destroy 30 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that were planted to target moving units northwest of Mount Halal.

He also said that 50 anti-tank mines were found in the same area, adding that a storage area for explosives was discovered in a canyon in Mount Halal.

According to the spokesman, 100 plastic barrels full of explosive material used in manufacturing IEDs were found, as well as five bags of ammonium nitrate.

The army also destroyed three cars and two motorcycles which it says belonged to the militants.

The operation is part of a larger security effort dubbed ‘Martyr’s Right,’ which was launched in September 2015 with the aim of fighting Islamist militants in Sinai.

The Martyr’s Right operation was put into action following coordinated militant attacks on several army checkpoints that killed 21 soldiers in July 2015.

Egypt has been fighting an Islamist insurgency based in North Sinai for decades.”

  2. Erdo?an calls on states to help with refugee crisis (hurriyetdailynews, May 23, 2016)
    http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/erdogan-calls-on-states-to-help-with-refugee-crisis-.aspx?pageID=238&nID=99545&NewsCatID=338

“Turkey is calling on the world to create a fair mechanism to share the refugee burden, President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an has said in an op-ed penned for The Guardian.

“At a time when the international community failed the Syrian people – 600,000 of whom have lost their lives in the civil war, with 13 million forced from their homes – Turkey, along with the rest of Syria’s neighbors, was left to deal with the conflict’s consequences,” said Erdo?an in his article, “When the world failed Syria, Turkey stepped in. Now others must help.” Turkey remains the world’s most generous country in terms of humanitarian aid, he added.

“Turkey has been a safe haven for people escaping war, destruction and oppression for centuries, and today we provide humanitarian relief in more than 140 countries on five continents. In fact, Turkey remains the world’s most generous country, spending a bigger share of its GDP on humanitarian aid than any other,” he added.

Mentioning the World Humanitarian Summit that kicked off on May 23 in Istanbul, Erdo?an said the outcome of the summit depended on the “sincerity” of the leaders that are participating….”

  3. Erdo?an vows to replace Gülen schools abroad with Turkish ministry schools (hurriyetdailynews, May 23, 2016)

“The Turkish president has again called on foreign countries to shut down schools operated by supporters of Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen, a U.S.-based ally-turned-foe, saying the Turkish state would happily replace those schools.

“Me, our prime minister, and our ministers tell the leaders of countries we visit to close these schools, explaining their positions,” President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an said on Jan. 22, speaking at a joint press conference with Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn.

His remarks came in response to a question about the private and charter schools operated by supporters of the Gülen movement across over 140 countries, including many in Africa.

Erdo?an also said government officials seek to assure these countries that Turkey’s Education Ministry would be able to provide the services given by Gülen schools in these countries.

“The Education Ministry is about to complete its works on this issue,” he added.

On several occasions over the past few years, Erdo?an has reportedly urged foreign countries, particularly African countries where Gülen supporters are known to have a strong presence, to be careful about the Gülen movement’s activities, arguing that it uses its schools and charities as a cover for its “dangerous actions.””

  4. Threatening Robo-Calls Evacuate Thousands of Students in U.S., U.K. Schools

Thousands of students in several dozen schools across the United States and Great Britain were evacuated Monday after what appeared to be coordinated recorded threats of violence were called in, according to news reports and law enforcement officials who spoke to NBC News[…]

Many American schools said they recorded calls from an electronically disguised voice reporting a bomb, multiple police agencies told NBC News. Many said the calls came in around 2 to 2:30 p.m. ET.

In Britain, several schools received a 90-second recorded call from a voice with an American accent promising that “shrapnel” would “take children’s the heads off,” according to multiple news reports. Many of those schools reported that the calls also came in about the same time, in this case about 10 a.m. local time.

    • Quote from the article above:

HVB Living Nordic is a private company paid by the local authority to provide housing and care for unaccompanied minors, which has been operating since late 2013.
In 2014, Molndal received £22.6million to provide housing for unaccompanied minors – the most state funding per capita than any town or city in Sweden.
That same year, HVB Living Nordic reported a profit margin of 21.9 per cent.

HVB’s chief executive is Patrick Sjögren, 46, former CEO of 5050Poker, a gambling website which filed for bankruptcy in 2012 after it emerged that the company had used players’ money to cover losses.

The company, HVB Living Nordic, had asked the local authorities for compensation to care for Nuur, but the extra staff promised had reportedly not started yet at the time of the attack.

  7. Claim: Muslim Translators Lie, Deny Muslim Harassment Of Christian And Yazidi Migrants

Desperate Yazidi and Christian migrants in Germany have attempted to report harassment and violence at the hands of Muslim migrants, only for Sunni Muslim translators to lie and deny sectarian attacks.

Muslim translators, from whom the minorities sought help, “threw their support behind the attackers” and denied to authorities that harassment and violence is happening.

After an influx of more than a million migrants last year, German authorities are unable to find sufficient numbers of qualified and reliable translators of Arabic to meet demand.

The country’s Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) now recruits translators with a pamphlet which says that “in this work you will take on a great responsibility and we expect from you neutrality and reliability.”

But an investigative report by German broadcaster ARD uncovered that there is a “gaping void between demand and reality,” which causes a “nightmare” for numerous migrants.

A Yazidi migrant from Iraq told the public broadcaster that other migrants from the Middle East had verbally abused his group and threatened to beat them. When he went to a translator, a Muslim, for help, the translator “negated it all” and “claimed that none of this even happened.”

  8. Will Baltimore Feel the Bern?

A judge found Baltimore police officer Edward Nero not guilty today on all four charges for his role in the events leading up to the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray.

Nero, 30, had been charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and two counts of misconduct in office, all stemming from his actions during the initial stop and arrest of Gray, who suffered a catastrophic spinal injury while in police custody. Gray died one week later on April 19, 2015, and his death sparked days of violent protests in Baltimore. Because Nero opted for a bench trial, Baltimore Circuit Court Judge Barry Williams decided his fate rather than a jury.

During the case, prosecutors argued that Nero had no regard for Gray’s safety and was reckless by ignoring policing rules when he failed to place a seat belt on Gray, who was placed on his stomach in shackles in the back of a police transport vehicle. Congressman Elijah Cummings, D-Maryland, said he would like to see seat belts in every police van moving forward.

This begs the question: will the radical leftists who invade Bernie Sanders rallies and march with Black Lives Matter tear what’s left of decrepit Baltimore to the ground?

  9. Bernie Sanders: Not a Good Guy
Why Sanders’ supporters are disposed to violence.

Even among far too many Republicans, a popular misconception persists that Bernie Sanders, while fundamentally wrong-headed politically, is nevertheless a decent person that means well for the country.

In the meantime, it is Donald Trump and his supporters who have gotten branded as “haters” who encourage violence.

This is bizarro world or, what amounts to the same thing, an ideologically-useful fiction of the left’s.

In reality, Sanders’ supporters have proven themselves to be far more violent-prone than the supporters of any other candidate, Republican or Democrat. In fact, it is only Sanders’ supporters who have established a pattern of visiting violence upon those with whom they disagree.

On the weekend of May 14-15, a Nevada Democratic convention had to be shut down because security at the hotel at which it was held couldn’t contain the mayhem unleashed by the hordes of disgruntled fans of the self-avowed “socialist” from Vermont. In addition to hurling obscenities and accosting people, Sanders’ supporters hurled chairs and issued death threats against the state party chairwoman, Roberta Lange.

As of the Monday following the melee, state party offices were still closed for security reasons: Sanders supporters, ever true to the leftist’s playbook, made public Lange’s home and business addresses, email and cell phone number.
