USA: Huge fire disrupts metro service in New York

Published on May 17, 2016

A fire broke out on the metro’s railway tracks in Harlem, New York City, on Tuesday, causing a suspension in service.

The blaze started at the beginning of the morning rush hour, at the crossing of 118th Street and Park Avenue, underneath the Metro-North train station. It reportedly began as a trailer caught alight, igniting propane inside. Thick columns of smoke could be seen rising from under the station.

(How very curious)

  1. How many fires on or near mass transit systems in large US cities does this make this year?

  2. 19.05 — There is a large fire on Subway System in Toronto, trains are suspended, subway (underground) station is evacuated.
