  1. Israeli warplanes launched several raids on Wednesday in the Gaza Strip after a day of tensions along the border with Israel, said the interior ministry in the Palestinian territory.

Air strikes hit around Gaza’s derelict international airport near the southern city of Rafah and in nearby farming areas, without causing casualties, said the ministry, which is run by Hamas.

Israel’s army said it had hit five sites operated by Hamas.

  2. Police in Paris have used teargas to disperse protesters attempting to block the removal of migrants from a school that they have been occupying for two weeks.

Protesters had formed a human chain around the Jean-Jaurès high school in the north of the French capital to prevent police entering on Wednesday. Some of the demonstrators chanted “everyone hates the police” and pelted them with objects.

Police entered the school, where tables and chairs were piled up to try to block their entry.

The school was closed for renovation and empty when 150 migrants occupied part of the building last month. They are mainly from Afghanistan, Eritrea, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.

  3. The armies of Pakistan and India are practicing for nuclear war on the battlefield: Pakistan is rehearsing the use of nuclear weapons, while India trains to fight on despite such use and subsequently escalate. What were once mere ideas and scenarios dreamed up by hawkish military planners and nuclear strategists have become starkly visible capabilities and commitments. When the time comes, policy makers and people on both sides will expect—and perhaps demand—that the Bomb be used.

Pakistan has long been explicit about its plans to use nuclear weapons to counter Indian conventional forces. Pakistan has developed “a variety of short range, low yield nuclear weapons,” claimed retired General Khalid Kidwai in March 2015. Kidwai is the founder—and from 2000 until 2014 ran—Pakistan’s Strategic Plans Division, which is responsible for managing the country’s nuclear weapons production complex and arsenal. These weapons, Kidwai said, have closed the “space for conventional war.” Echoing this message, Pakistani Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry declared in October 2015 that his country might use these tactical nuclear weapons in a conflict with India. There already have been four wars between the two countries—in 1947, 1965, 1971, and 1999—as well as many war scares.

    • That region is one of the most likely areas for a nuclear exchange in the coming war, depending on how Pakistan uses their nuclear forces India may end up launching everything at both Pakistan and China.

  13. End well, this will not!

The European Commission wants a computer to instruct member states how many asylum seekers they must host based on their population size and wealth.
The plan is aimed at depoliticising a toxic decision-making process on asylum, following failed EU-level efforts to relocate asylum seekers across member states.

“Whenever a member state has to face a disproportionate number of asylum applications, responsibility for new applicants of all nationalities will be transferred to other member states,” EU commission vice-president Frans Timmermans told reporters on Wednesday (5 May).

  15. Rumours flying around that Erdogan, the President of Turkey, is stripping the Prime Minister of that position and also removing him as the head of their party… The news report on this is not clearly written, but I’m sure we’ll hear more about this soon.

The relations were reportedly tense between the two statesmen amid fresh rumors suggesting that Davuto?lu may be planning to resign after saying on May 3 that he would not hesitate to “walk away from any job position,” all eyes were on a State Day meeting between him and Erdo?an on May 4. State Day meetings traditionally take place on Thursdays, but in Erdo?an’s official schedule posted in the early hours of May 4 it was seen that his regular weekly meeting with Davuto?lu was moved forward.

Erdo?an has said you “should not forget how you got to your post,” in pointed remarks before the meeting.

  16. Egypt’s president said on Wednesday that issues of human rights and civil liberties in his country should not be approached from a “Western perspective,” due to domestic and regional conditions, days after authorities detained two journalists.

Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi told this to a US congressional delegation visiting Cairo, his spokesman said in an official statement carried by local paper al-Ahram.

Sisi also told the US delegation, which was headed by the chairman of the US House Committee on Homeland Security Michael McCaul, that the Egyptian government was committed to the rule of law and upholding the values of democracy.

According to Sisi’s spokesman, the meeting involved talks on volatile countries in the region. The Egyptian president also warned of the consequences of the “fall of nation states” in the Middle East, and its impact on the rise of militant groups, al-Ahram reported.

  17. SYRIA – Russia’s Lavrov: U.S. wanted to include al-Nusra positions in Aleppo truce -RIA

May 4 The United States wanted to include positions held by Nusra Front militants in a truce in Syria’s Aleppo, but this was rejected as unacceptable, RIA news agency quoted Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov as saying on Wednesday.

“This leads us to think that … someone wants to use the Americans to stop al-Nusra being targeted by strikes,” Lavrov said.

Lavrov: US Tried to Include Al-Nusra Front Positions in ‘Silent’ Period

The United States tried to include areas captured by al-Nusra Front terrorist group in northern Syria’s Aleppo in a recently established “silent” period during Washington’s talks with Moscow on the issue, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Sputnik in an exlusive interview.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Lavrov pointed to evidence that linked the Turkish government with al-Nusra Front and Daesh terrorists, which have been excluded from all previous ceasefire deals brokered by Moscow and Washington for Syria.

“During the negotiations, our US partners actually tried to draw the borders of this ‘zone of silence’ to include a significant number of positions occupied by al-Nusra [Front]. We managed to exclude this as it is absolutely unacceptable,” Lavrov said.

Lavrov suggested that some party wanted to manipulate the United States into shielding al-Nusra Front militants from government fire.

“This indicates that someone wants to use the Americans. I do not believe that it is in their interest to shield al-Nusra [Front]. But someone wants to use the Americans to shield the al-Nusra [Front] from strikes,” Lavrov said

Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry said that al-Nusra Front terrorists in Syria continue provocations seeking to escalate tensions in the northern part of the Latakia province and the city of Aleppo, which has resulted in the disruption of the “silent” period.

Russia and the United States brokered a “silent” period on Thursday to be implemented for 24 hours in the Damascus’ suburbs and for 72 hours in the northern Latakia province, starting at midnight on April 30.

  18. BBC interviews Howard Jacobson. I don’t know how to embed it here.

OT ~ it’s for anybody who cares about how Imoi, the YankeeKafir really feel about a certain subject.

He’s saying exactly what I think. Especially the first part, where he talks about how much he loathes ‘antisemitism’ – the word itself and the topic. How he finds himself slapped in the face with it and now must confront it directly.

I’m not a Brit, I’m not invested in that society. [Thank-G-d.] I’m far more pessimistic about his country than he seems to be. At some point Genesis 12:3 kicks in, and it just may be too late for the UK as it most assuredly is for the Continent.

I’m getting canary-vibes. Your canaries aren’t chirping, they’re croaking. The atmosphere is toxic. Get out of the coal-mine, get fresh air or you’ll die.

Don’t disregard historic verity because usage has made it cliched: It always starts with the Jews, but it never stops there. Call it celestial voodoo. Logical or not, that’s the way it’s been for thousands of years in disparate settings.

Brits should regard this flare with as much alarm as high fever in a child. Rush to the emergency room of your nearest hospital – it’s a matter of life and death. Clean house, put your affairs in order. You’re in a perilous state.

Part 3 features Howard Jacobson. “The Jewish Jane Austen, or England’s Jeremiah?”

    • You know that I think a long war has started and that nations will change names and shapes during this war, I don’t know if Britain will survive or not. I doubt if France and Germany will survive in their current shape or society.

Yes the canaries are screaming get out of the mine and most people are ignoring them, this war will either cause a massive increase in the worlds intelligence or a massive drop. I really don’t know which.

      • This is a siren blasting.
I’m not talking about Jews per se.

Rather, they’re prognosticators like horses strange postures just before earthquakes. Or the pain in arthritic limbs that predicts rain more accurately than a weatherman.
