  1. THIS upsetting video shows weeping children — some as young as five — being forced to marry older grooms in a mass ceremony in India.
The distressing clip shows a 10-year-old girl crying uncontrollably as she holds the hand of her teenage partner.
The girl is dressed in a pink veil and can be heard pleading for help as she is forced to walk around a fire seven times in the Hindu ritual.

Note: the Hindu’s claim that the early marriage practiced by them is a response to the Islamic invasion, which considers unmarried females of any age fair targets for ‘booty’…

  2. Militants from so-called Islamic State (IS) have been pushed out of the key eastern city of Derna, a rival Islamist group has said.
IS “have all left Derna – they have no presence here anymore”, Hafeth al-Dabaa, a spokesman for Derna Mujahideen Shura Council (DMSC), told the BBC.
The al-Qaeda linked DMSC is an umbrella group for local militias.
Derna has seen a three-way conflict between IS, DMSC and forces loyal to Libya’s eastern government.
Since 2014, Libya has had two competing governments – one in the capital Tripoli, and another in the eastern city of Tobruk.

  3. At least 50 pro-Syrian government fighters have been taken captive by Kurdish forces in the Syrian town of Qamishli in the mostly Kurdish-controlled Hasaka province after fierce fighting entered a second day, various media report.

Fighting between the two factions in the northeastern Syrian town sharply intensified on Thursday, after Kurdish police, known as Asayish, seized Allya prison where pro-government forces had been holed up.

Kurdish Firat news agency reports 67 soldiers surrendered, while AFP puts the figure at 50.

  4. The content of the ad itself is pretty bland (“Truth = Peace” and a peace sign could be swapped in for almost any cause), but its purpose is not: To deny that as many as 1.5 million Armenians were systematically rounded up and murdered by the Ottoman government in what is now Turkey, mostly in the year 1915.

The modern Turkish government has famously scoffed at the truth of this historical event, despite a century of scholarship and eyewitness accounts. Measures in the United States to officially recognize the genocide (through a congressional resolution, for example) have gained wide support but ultimately failed, mainly because of Turkey’s role as a regional military ally.

  5. Raed Saleh, a Syrian national, landed at Dulles International Airport outside Washington on Monday afternoon after an 11-hour journey from Turkey. In his passport was a visa for the U.S.

He was planning to attend a Tuesday evening banquet in the capital where he was being honored for his rescue work in Syria. But as Saleh tried to make his way through immigration, he says, he was pulled aside by security at the airport.

“After about two or three hours, they told me, ‘We apologize but you must return to Turkey because this visa has been canceled. It’s not valid.’ I told them, ‘How isn’t it valid? It’s good for six months.’ ”

Saleh says the immigration official could not tell him why he was being turned back.

“He told me, ‘I don’t have any explanation or details. I can’t tell you anything,’ ” according to Saleh, who spoke to NPR via Skype. He was in Geneva, on his way back to Turkey.

  6. (CNN)A U.S. Army captain working in Iraq helped foil a terrorist plot to blow up a school in Denmark, according to a U.S. defense official.

Capt. Bradley Grimm provided “actionable intelligence” gleaned from captured documents in Iraq about foreign fighters from Denmark that included information on threats against a Danish school using homemade explosives, according to Col. Steve Warren, a spokesman for the coalition fighting ISIS.
“The information he provided helped to foil the plot and resulted in an arrest and the confiscation of explosives” in Denmark, Warren said Wednesday. “Brad’s work likely saved the lives of Danish citizens.”

  8. An Italian student who was tortured and murdered in Egypt had been detained by police and then transferred to a compound run by Homeland Security the day he vanished, intelligence and police sources say. The claims contradict the official Egyptian account that security services had not arrested him.

Giulio Regeni, a 28-year-old postgraduate student, disappeared on Jan. 25, friends say. His body was found on Feb. 3, dumped on the side of a road outside Cairo. It showed signs of torture, according to forensic and prosecution officials in Egypt.

Egyptian officials have strongly denied any involvement in Regeni’s death. Soon after his body was found, police suggested he was the victim of a car accident. Weeks later they said he might have been killed by a criminal gang impersonating policemen.

But three Egyptian intelligence officials and three police sources independently told Reuters the police had custody of Regeni at some point before he died.

  9. ISTANBUL (Reuters) – Militants of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) wanted a return to talks with the Turkish government a few months ago amid the worst violence in decades but Ankara rejected the overture, an opposition party leader said on Wednesday.

A 2-1/2-year peace process between the outlawed PKK and the government broke down last July and fighting since then has claimed thousands of lives, including around 500 civilians.

Chairman Selahattin Demirtas said his Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), which has Kurdish origins, had persuaded PKK leaders based in the Qandil mountains of northern Iraq to return to the negotiating table.

  10. Kano (Nigeria) (AFP) – At least seven people were killed in a suicide bomb attack near a camp for those displaced by the Boko Haram conflict in northeast Nigeria, the army said on Thursday.

The attack happened early Wednesday in Banki, a town on the border with Cameroon some 130 kilometres (80 miles) southeast of the Borno state capital, Maiduguri.

“Seven people lost their lives. There were two suicide bombers,” both women, army spokesman Colonel Sani Usman told AFP.

News of the attack was slow to emerge because of the poor to non-existent telecommunications in the remote area.

  11. JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Israel provides Jordan and Egypt with intelligence assistance in their fight against Islamic State, a senior Israeli military officer said on Wednesday, describing the U.S.-backed Arab neighbours as stable despite the insurgent threat.

Egypt made peace with Israel in 1979, followed by Jordan in 1994. They are the only Arab countries to have treaties with Israel, a matter unpopular with many Egyptians and Jordanians and which generally keeps Amman and Cairo quiet about the ties.

Major-General Yair Golan, deputy commander of the Israeli armed forces, said in a briefing that the countries were working with Israel as they try to beat back Islamic State.

  12. The U.S.-led coalition air campaign has incinerated about $500 million of the Islamic State’s cash stockpiles and cut its oil revenues by an estimated 50%, according to a senior defense official.

The Islamic State has been forced to ration fuel in some areas and cut pay by half to its fighters and government officials in regions it controls, according to the official, who asked not to be named in order to discuss intelligence issues.

U.S. officials have said the air campaign combined with local ground forces in Iraq and Syria have dealt the Islamic State setbacks in recent months, saying the terror group has lost 40% of the territory it once controlled in Iraq. “We’ve got the momentum,” Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said last week.

  13. A crime boss has been told he could be facing a life sentence for smuggling more than £100,000 worth of Eastern European guns into the UK sourced from the same place as weapons used in the Charlie Hebdo terror attack.

Harry Shilling bragged “we now officially gangsters” after his stash of 22 assault rifles and nine Skorpion sub-machine guns sailed up the River Medway from Boulogne in France.

The 23-year-old, along with Michael Defraine, 30, was found guilty of gun smuggling and possessing firearms with intent to endanger life following a trial held at the Old Bailey amid almost unprecedented security.

He will be sentenced along with the rest of the gang, Skipper David Payne, 43, Richard Rye, 24, and Christopher Owen, 30, who had already pleaded guilty.

  14. Hillary PAC Spends $1 Million to ‘Correct’ Commenters on Reddit and Facebook
FEC loopholes mean Correct the Record can openly coordinate with Clinton’s campaign.
Citing “lessons learned from online engagement with ‘Bernie Bros,’” a pro-Hillary Clinton Super PAC is pledging to spend $1 million to “push back against” users on Twitter, Facebook, Reddit and Instagram.
Correct the Record’s “Barrier Breakers” project boasts in a press release that it has already “addressed more than 5,000 people that have personally attacked Hillary Clinton on Twitter.” The PAC released this on Thursday.
The PAC was created in May of last year when it was spun off from the American Bridge SuperPAC, which is run by longtime Hillary and Bill Clinton supporter David Brock. Brock also founded the left-wing media watchdog website Media Matters for America.
Some Bernie Sanders-supporting users on Reddit already started to notice the changes on Thursday afternoon.
