  5. King Mohammed VI Calls for Facing Anti-Islam Rhetoric in the West (moroccoworldnews, Apr 14, 2016)
    http://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2016/04/184262/king-mohammed-vi-calls-for-facing-anti-islam-rhetoric-in-the-west/

“Istanbul – King Mohammed VI on Thursday called on Islamic countries to design and implement appropriate strategies and reform programs to face a situation that has worsened with the spread within western communities of Islamophobia, along with fear, suspicion and hatred towards Muslim minorities, during the last decades.

“The identification and critical analysis of the causes behind the current situation, as well as an objective assessment of historical responsibilities, at the local, regional and international levels, should help overcome this challenging phase,” King Mohammed VI said in a message addressed to the 13th OIC’s Summit, which takes place in Istanbul.

In this message, which was read out by Foreign Affairs Minister Salaheddine Mezouar, the King underlined that anti-Islam rhetoric, which is gaining ground in the West, is stirring up feelings of hatred and rallying public opinions against Islam, as part of “the alarmingly spreading phenomenon of Islamophobia.”

He called on Islamic countries to design and implement “appropriate strategies and reform programs, which take into consideration national specificities, while drawing on both regional and international solidarity and cooperation.”

The 13th Islamic Summit “is convening at a time when member states of our organization, such as Syria, Yemen, Iraq and Libya, are grappling with a series of simultaneous crises,” the King noted.

These crises heightened internal repercussions and escalating regional consequences, he emphasized, adding that sectarian division, fanaticism and terrorism are gaining more ground, hence “the need to identify the causes of this abnormal, high-risk situation and to determine the reasons why the Islamic world is affected by it, both as a source and a target.”

“The answers to these questions are particularly important as some parties, here and there, are trying to take advantage of a fragile situation such as this in order to fuel separatist trends and redraw the map of the Islamic world, on a basis which ignores historical and identity-related facts, denies specificities and inherent characteristics and unveils premeditated designs to meddle in the future of nations, jeopardizing world security and stability,” the monarch stressed.

The Moroccan monarch called on OIC member countries, as an almost global bloc boasting more than a billion Muslims, to seize every available opportunity to achieve complementarity and to benefit from the lessons of “our history and from experiences lived by other blocs that have reached advanced levels of integration and joint construction.”

He underlined the importance of boosting and expanding South-South cooperation – based on trust, realism and shared interests – among member states, mainly through extensive exchange of experience “in order to develop our relations and promote solidarity between our societies, at all levels, with a view to enhancing our productivity and strengthening our economies, in order to ensure decent living conditions and prosperity for our peoples.”

The King, Chairman of the OIC al-Quds Committee, pointed out that there is yet another source of power for Islamic countries us to draw on; that is the faith in the justness of the al-Quds and Palestinian cause, and reaffirmed “that Morocco, its King, Government and people, are mobilized, with all the political, legal and practical means available, for the defence of al-Quds and Palestine.”

He called on Islamic countries to continue the mobilization, “with the same determination, to protect al-Quds from the systematic Judaization policy imposed on the city on a daily basis and on the ground, and to respond to the renewed needs and priorities of its Palestinian inhabitants.”

“Supporting the Bayt Mal al-Quds al-Sharif Agency is henceforth a necessity, dictated by our joint action within the organization, to translate our faith in solidarity and cooperation with al-Quds inhabitants into constructive programs, particularly when it comes to helping deprived families and building public facilities, namely in the fields of health and education,” he concluded.”

  7. Legal opinion finds Erodgan ‘smear poem’ not criminal (thelocal, Apr 14, 2016)
    http://www.thelocal.de/20160414/legal-opinion-finds-erodgan-smear-poem-not-criminal

“There was good news for satirist Jan Böhmermann on Thursday, as broadcaster ZDF published a legal opinion claiming a “smear poem” he directed at Turkey’s President was within the bounds of the law.

Lawyers hired by broadcaster ZDF – home to Böhmermann’s weekly TV show Neo Magazin Royale – said that the satirist was within his rights to insult President Recep Tayyip Erdogan crudely.

Böhmermann has been under police protection at his home in Cologne this week as Erdogan launched an official complaint to the German government under a little-used law banning insults against foreign heads of state.

Erdogan has also launched a private legal proceeding against the TV comic, who among many insults called Erdogan a “goat fucker” who “watches child porn while kicking Kurds” in the poem, which Böhmermann acknowledged deliberately played with the boundaries of permissible speech.

The lawyers said the poem was clearly intended as a comment on Erdogan’s angry reaction to a satirical song from comedy show Extra 3 the previous week – not as a direct attack on his honour.

As such, it was within the bounds of satire defended under the German constitution – although it did not live up to internal quality and taste regulations at ZDF….”

    • Journalists want ‘slanderous’ poem republished (thelocal, Apr 14, 2016)
      http://www.thelocal.de/20160414/journalists-call-for-slanderous-poem-to-be-reposted

“Colleagues of satirist Jan Böhmermann at public broadcaster ZDF are campaigning to have his ‘slanderous’ poem about Turkey’s leader reinstated online – even as legal action looms against the comedian.

Support is growing for comedian Jan Böhmermann at his workplace after he read his intentionally offensive poem about Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on air, eliciting a probe into whether he had violated German law.

ZDF’s editors’ committee sent an internal letter around the company asking for the poem to be added once again to the broadcaster’s online streaming service, Spiegel Online reported on Thursday.

“What I’m about to read is not allowed. If it were to be read in public – that would be forbidden in Germany,” Böhmermann had said, before proceeding to read the poem, which among many insults called Erdogan a “goat fucker” who “watches child porn while kicking Kurds.”

The director of ZDF programming had decided to remove the video from its media library after lawyers said it potentially violated a little-used German statute against insulting foreign heads of state, according to Spiegel…”

  8. Asylum seekers evicted after sex arrest (thelocal, Apr 14, 2016)
    http://www.thelocal.at/20160414/asylum-seekers-evicted-after-sex-charges

“An Austrian mayor has evicted asylum seekers from student accommodation after a refugee was arrested for reportedly raping a 13-year-old girl whom he met online.

The teenager, identified only as Ahmad S. from Afghanistan, is allegedly 16 years old, although police believe he is in his 20s. He is one of around 20 underage refugees who had been given a room in student accommodation belonging to the technical college in Hollabrunn.

After the details of the case emerged, the local mayor Erwin Bernreiter cancelled the contract with the Austrian refugee agency and all of the asylum seekers, apparently from Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq, have now been forced to move out…”

  9. BREITBART – ‘Asylum Seekers’ Turning Down Free Meals, Would Rather Have The Money Instead

In the southern German district of Baden Ortenaukreis near Strasbourg, asylum seekers have been refusing meals given to them by the staff at an asylum home. The migrants have told the staff that the food they are getting is making them sick and that they cannot eat, it reports Junge Freiheit.

[…]The new caterers are the eighth one the board has had to employ because of complaints by the residents.

[…]More than 60 migrant men who are seeking asylum in the region have been involved with the boycott of food at the home which started on April 7th. Many have resorted to buying their own food but their funds are limited and so are now requesting that the government give them more.

The District office was quick to refuse the request saying that already a considerable sum of tax payer money has been allocated to the housing, medical care and food for the asylum seekers.

The spokesman of the district told media that it wasn’t logistically possible for the migrants to buy their own food because it would mean that they would further require their own cooking appliances, sinks, refrigerators and more. They say it’s just simply too costly and impractical for the district to implement, especially when they have worked so hard on making sure nothing on the catering service could be in any way objectionable to the migrants.

Since they have access to the food at the cafeteria the migrants are paid around 144 euros less than migrants who have no access to the service. Many migrants see that as unfair and some wish to be able to send money back to relatives in their homelands to support them or to help fund bringing them to Germany.

  10. BRITISH MUSLIMS AND ANTISEMITISM

For at least twenty years, the British Jewish community has been out in front when it comes to interfaith work. As Britain’s Muslim population has grown, British Jews assumed that interfaith models that led to huge advances in relations with British Christians, could apply just as well to relations with British Muslims. Indeed building bridges with British Muslims has become the focus of outreach work by British Jews.

Today, our analysis of the ICM survey of British Muslims for Channel 4 and Juniper Television shows that the gradual buildup of understanding and friendship between Britain’s Jews and Muslims has been utterly eclipsed by growing antisemitism amongst British Muslims.

On every single count, British Muslims were more likely by far than the general British population to hold deeply antisemitic views. It is clear that many British Muslims reserve a special hatred for British Jews, rating Jews much less favourably than people of other religions or no religion, yet astonishingly British Muslims largely do not recognise antisemitism as a major problem.
    […]
This data shows that Jews remain the ‘canary in the coal mine’, as they have been throughout history: those who harbour hatred of Jews also hate British society and sympathise with our most deadly enemies. Britain must confront rampant antisemitism within its Muslim population, but also amongst the general population, whose shocking views should be no less concerning simply because the views of British Muslims are worse.

  11. BREITBART – Alleged Brussels Terrorist Was Star Of Documentary About Successful Integration Of Immigrants

The Syrian-origin Swedish passport holder arrested in Belgium last week for his involvement in the Brussels bomb attacks is a former poster boy for Sweden’s efforts at integrating migrants into their society.

Now accused of murder, and captured on CCTV cameras carrying bags which contained the explosive devices which killed 32 civilians, Islamist Osama Krayem had once been hailed as a model of integration. A former employee of the city of Malmo, at the age of 11 Osama starred in a documentary about migrants in Sweden.

Both of Osama’s parents are Syrian migrants to Sweden, and have told tabloid Aftonbladet they wanted to see their son integrate into Swedish society. The family featured in a 2005 documentary called ‘Without Borders — A Film About Sport And Integration’, in which football-mad Krayem demonstrated how the Malmo football team had helped him settle into Swedish society.[…]
