  1. ‘Al Qaeda has sealed its future’: Syria’s jihadists may be the biggest winners of Assad’s ‘victory’ at Palmyra

Pro-regime forces recaptured the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra from ISIS over the weekend, dealing a blow to one of the terrorist group’s most strategically and symbolically valuable strongholds in Syria.

But analysts say that the victory, while significant, serves the dual purpose of buying time and legitimacy for embattled Syrian President Bashar Assad as his country enters its fifth year of civil war.

That, in turn, constitutes a significant blow to Syria’s revolution — and a boon for the jihadists who thrive off Syrians’ discontent with the regime
    .

[…] Many experts have noted that Assad’s latest victory against ISIS — aka the Islamic State, ISIL, or Daesh — at Palmyra will make him only less likely to accept a political transition that results in his ouster. The regime said as much in a statement released immediately following Palmyra’s capture.

“This achievement proves that our brave army, aided by the friends, is the only effective force capable of fighting terrorism and eradicating it,” it said, according to the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency.

Fred Hof, a former special adviser for transition in Syria under then US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, told Business Insider that the assault on Palmyra “marks the beginning of phase two of a Russian military offensive designed to rehabilitate Assad.”

“Phase one aimed to save Assad from military defeat at the hands of nationalist rebels and to bolster the regime’s position in Geneva peace negotiations,” Hof said by email. “Phase two aims to rehabilitate Assad internationally, using ISIS as a foil.”

ISIS has been battling anti-Assad rebels for control over territory in eastern Syria for more than two years, as pro-regime forces bolstered by Iran-backed proxy militias have been focused on regaining territory in Aleppo and Damascus, as well as Latakia further west.[…]

U.S. says new Syrian government including Assad a ‘non-starter’

    WASHINGTON

The White House said on Wednesday it would be a “non-starter” to include Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in any new ruling coalition government to end the civil war in Syria.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest ruled out Assad’s participation in a new government after the Syrian leader said it would not be difficult to agree on a new Syrian governing coalition that included opposition, independents and loyalists.

“I don’t know whether he envisioned himself being a part of that national unity government. Obviously that would be a non-starter for us,” Earnest said.

Syria: Assad questions US-led coalition’s ‘commitment to fighting terrorism’

SOT, Bashar al-Assad, Syrian President (Arabic): “This news has not been understood, that is true. Some around the world did understand it, but do not want to believe it. Today, after two days of liberating Palmyra, several countries that are supposed to be to be involved in fighting terrorism, or are part of the American international coalition against terrorism, have not announced a position in regards to the liberation of Palmyra. And I would like it to be clear; first and foremost the French and British regimes. We have not heard any comments, and their reasons [for them], regarding the occupation of Palmyra by the terrorists for just short of year. This was the proof of the coalition’s failure and the lack of commitment to fighting terrorism, especially ISIS, or Daesh. Also liberating it [Palmyra] through Russian support is another proof of a lack of commitment on their end.”

SOT, Bashar al-Assad, Syrian President (Arabic): “How did we manage to do it? Easily. First of all we have the willpower to rid Syria entirely of terrorists, and this is non-negotiable. There are no options for protecting Syria if we don’t fight terrorism. Of course this is alongside the political process, but the fight against terrorism is fundamental. So we possess this will power, the Syrian people possess this willpower, and also the Syrian army is bent on liberating every part of the country. At the same time, support from friends – the Russian support – was decisive and effective to reach this result. The support of our friends from Iran was essential in these battles. As well as those from Hezbollah in Lebanon, and there are some other groups, Syrians, fighting alongside the army.”

SOT, Bashar al-Assad, Syrian President (Arabic): “Naturally, after the liberation of Palmyra, we are bound to move into the surrounding areas, which lead to the north-eastern areas such as the city of Deir ez-Zor. And at the same time, we will start working towards the city of Raqqa, which at the moment constitutes the main stronghold to the terrorists of Daesh.”

    • As long as Assad has Russian support he will remain in power and after Obama is out of office I doubt if the next President will follow the policy of trying to remove Assad. He is a minor irritant that was doing nothing to aid the Islamic war against the west, this is probably why Obama decided he had to be removed. By attempting to remove him Obama has given Russia a stronger base in Syria, a stronger hand to play in the Middle East and weakened our position. He has also given Iran a stronger position against the Sunni but this may work to our advantage since it has forced Saudi to form an army of Sunni’s from other Islamic nations and mercs from South America. This is creating a growing problem for Iran who is faced with the Sunni army on its southern flank while having to watch the Turks and the Kurds.

This situation will become clearer and more dangerous as the year grows older and we will see why Kamanhi (?) says that the missiles Iran are testing are its future.

      • While watching the conflict between Sunni and Shia don’t forget to watch what is happening in 1) Eastern Europe from the Polish/Russian border down to the Black Sea. Also what is happening on the Northern Shore of the Black Sea, and then move your attention over to the South China Sea and up to Korea.

And as a special worry I have heard on FOX news that Obama has no objections to Japan and either Taiwan or South Korea acquiring nuclear weapons.

        http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/fukushima-anniversary/japan-has-nuclear-bomb-basement-china-isnt-happy-n48976

The article says it would take Japan 6 months to assemble a working nuclear device. If they don’t have the capability to assemble several working weapons and mount them on missiles in a couple of weeks they are not near as smart as I think they are.

        • Plus Obama hates the Poles. Always has; it’s weird. That kind of hostility is usually reserved for Israelis/ Jews.

          Grab your tinfoil hat:
Obama’s masters neutralized the Catholic Pope, brought in this foot-washer, a known quantity from the days of the Junta and the desaparecidos.

The Poles are ardent patriots and staunchly religious. An irresistible target for a spiteful little pos.

          • Remember Obama’s was raised by (literally) card carrying communists and thus was raised to hate all who oppose communism. Poland was the nation that provided the crack that caused Eastern Europe to break free from the Soviet Union and reject communism. In his mind they must be punished for this just as the US must be punished for winning the Cold War.

  2. Is France really home to ‘100 Molenbeeks’? (thelocal, Mar 29, 2016)
    http://www.thelocal.fr/20160329/is-france-really-home-to-100-molenbeeks

“A French minister has struck a raw nerve after stating France is home to 100 Molenbeeks – referring to the Brussels suburb known to be hotbed for jihadists. But is he correct?

“Today, we know that there are 100 neighbourhoods in France that have potential similarities with what happened in Molenbeek.”

These were the words of French communities minister Patrick Kanner which have caused a storm in France.

Kanner was answering a question on radio about the Brussels suburb of Molenbeek, which was the home of several of the jihadists who attacked Paris last November and since then has developed a reputation for being a hotbed of Islamic extremism.

“Molenbeek… where there is an enormous concentration of poverty and unemployment, an ultra-communitarianist and mafia system, with an underground economy where public services have almost disappeared and the elected officials have given up,” said Kanner.

The statement was welcomed by those on the right and far right, where similar views have long been offered.

The National Front’s number two in charge, Florian Philippot, even thought Kanner’s estimate of 100 was too optimistic, but called his words “lucid”.

“For once we have a minister, Mr. Kanner, who has lifted the veil of blindness that covers the eyes and mouth, that is speaking a truth clearly…” Philippot said.

And Prime Minister Manuel Valls, who made waves in the aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo shooting by talking of the problem of “social and ethnic apartheid” that is the scourge of some French cities, partly supported Kanner.

While he said the comparison with Molenbeek wasn’t appropriate he accepted that “a process of seclusion, communitarianism and radicalization does indeed exist” in certain areas.

In the past Valls spelled it out in clearer terms: “The risk in these territories is that extremism, criminality and radical Islam find fertile ground”.

However Kanner’s statement was greeted with anger on the left with head of the Socialist Party Jean-Christophe Cambadélis who lamented the fact that Muslims in those neighbourhoods or towns will feel “stigmatized”.

Socialist MP Julian Drey criticized the statement for bearing “no real information.”….”

    • They are facing the idea that there are 100 no go areas in France but the refuse to face the religious component of this war. This refusal blinds the leftist leaders to the full danger and to the weapon and shield that Christianity would get the regions where it once held sway.

        • Thank you, the increased number makes their blindness worse and the number of dead due to their blindness will increase by at least one order of magnitude.

  3. Yemen Says Dozens of Al-Qaida Fighters Detained in Aden (abcnews, Mar 30, 2016)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/yemen-dozens-al-qaida-fighters-detained-aden-38033884

“Yemeni pro-government forces have carried out a series of raids against al-Qaida in the southern port city of Aden, arresting dozens of suspects and causing the militants to flee from key areas, a top security official said Wednesday.

Maj. Gen. Shalal Shayaa, Aden’s security chief, said that southern fighters backing the government have set up checkpoints across the al-Mansoura neighborhood, a former militant stronghold. Shayaa later toured al-Mansoura on foot, reassuring residents and checking security patrols, according to witnesses.

Shayaa said the raids are part of a campaign aimed at consolidating the internationally-recognized government’s control over Aden, its de facto capital. Shiite militias known as Houthis seized the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, in 2014. Aden was plunged into lawlessness after government forces backed by a Saudi-led coalition drove the Houthis out last year.

Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, long seen by Washington as the most dangerous branch of the global network, has exploited the turmoil in Yemen and expanded its reach, seizing entire cities along the coastline of the Arabian Sea.

  4. Bavarian AfD wants to shut down mosques (DW, Mar 30, 2016)
    http://www.dw.com/en/bavarian-afd-wants-to-shut-down-mosques/a-19149600

“A local branch of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party wants to ban all mosques, according to a leaked draft policy. The right-wing party is working on its official manifesto ahead of a party conference in April.

A local branch of the Alternative for Germany has written the right-wing party’s most anti-Islamic policy statement yet. According to media group “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” (RND) a draft policy by the Bavarian branch of the party demands that the “construction and operation of mosques” be banned.

Mosques “do not just serve common prayer, but also the spreading of Islamic teaching, which advocates the removal of our legal order,” said the document, entitled “Courage to Responsibility.”

The policy statement goes on to claim that the Koran permits “lies and deception,” and that Islam “has already arrived at its declared path toward world domination in 57 of 190 countries.”

    ‘Unconstitutional’ attack on religious freedom

The AfD acknowledged that the new idea could violate the German constitution, which guarantees religious freedom, but said that this needed to be limited, as the framers of Germany’s Basic Law had not taken into account that “the application of religious freedom could give access to religions that call for the committing of crimes … and have the aim of world domination.”

The AfD’s extremist faction, which calls itself “the Wing,” is thought to be responsible for the draft policy, and Bavaria’s AfD leader Petr Bystron distanced himself from the proposal, though he admitted he knew of it.

Bryston said the draft policy was a counter-proposal to the official draft manifesto released by the national AfD last week, several of whose points the Wing opposed. He added the specific local group that drew up the policy statement, from the Lower Bavaria region, had a “certain affiliation” with the Wing.

Though the call to ban the construction of new mosques represents the most radical religious policy the AfD has floated so far, it is in line with the AfD’s official draft manifesto, which likewise declares that “Islam does not belong in Germany.” (There are estimated to be around four million Muslims in the country, or five percent of the total population.)

In fact, the official party doctrine shows that even the more moderate AfD leadership is not entirely happy with mosque building. “The AfD rejects the minaret, which is a symbol of Islamic domination, as is the muezzin call, according to which there is no god but Allah,” the manifesto says. “The minaret and the muezzin are in conflict with a tolerant co-existence of religions, which the Christian churches have practiced in modern times.”

The AfD also wants to ban burqas and niqabs in public and to restrict the foreign influence of Islam in Germany by requiring imams to be taught only in German and at German universities…”

    • As a firm believer in religious freedom I am sorry to say that this action is probably coming to all western nations.

      • If they have tame imams, it need not be so bad.
Someone would monitor the goings-on, perhaps require permits for imams. Avoid the prayers that incite to murder and mayhem, pitch the sermons for the government auditor. China is trying something like that now.

        • Your approach would work for awhile but look at Iran under the Shah and Turkey when the Army was monitoring and insuring that Turkey remained secular. In both cases once the controlling authority changed hands the Imams reverted and the nations became more Islamic, in Iran’s case much more Islamic.

  5. World must ‘address biggest refugee crisis of our time,’ says UN chief (DW, Mar 30, 2016)
    http://www.dw.com/en/world-must-address-biggest-refugee-crisis-of-our-time-says-un-chief/a-19149784

“One out of 10 Syrian refugees require resettlement, the UN refugee agency said ahead of a Geneva conference. But several EU member states have rejected a redistribution system amid calls for global solidarity.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday opened a high-level Geneva conference aimed at tackling opportunities for Syrian refugees, especially resettlement.

“We are here to address the biggest refugee and displacement crisis of our time,” Ban told representatives from over 90 countries….”

  6. Swedish pair lose Syria terror crimes appeal (thelocal, Mar 30, 2016)

“Two men from Gothenburg have lost their appeal to have their sentences for terror crimes overturned.

Hassan al-Mandlawi, 32, and Al-Amin Sultan, 30, both Swedish nationals, were found guilty by Gothenburg District Court in December of a series of terror offences, including taking part in the decapitation of two people in Aleppo in 2013.

On Wednesday their sentences were upheld by the Swedish Court of Appeal.

“We come to the same conclusion as the district court,” said Niklas Wågnert, the lead judge.

The case centred around movie clips in which two men have their heads cut off, which prosecutors said proved that the two accused were present when the murders were committed and that they belonged to a terror organization….”

  7. Denmark preps action plan for ‘hate preachers’ (thelocal, Mar 30, 2016)
    http://www.thelocal.dk/20160330/denmark-preps-measures-against-hate-preachers

“The Danish government is considering tightening legislation to prevent imams who “preach hate” from spreading their views, Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said on Wednesday.

“In Denmark we have religious preachers who in reality abuse our freedoms, preaching hate,” he said at a press conference.

At a meeting with opposition leaders, Rasmussen’s minority right-wing government presented tentative plans for deterring preachers who “undermine the society they should be a part of,” he said.

The proposals included establishing a list of people who would be barred from entering the country, similar to a blacklist used in Britain.

The government also wanted to look into whether it could outlaw speech that “undermines Danish legislation” and ban certain people from coming to a place of worship, but remained vague on any details.

Preachers who “don’t respect the basic norms in our society” could in the future be stripped of the right to officiate marriages, Rasmussen said.

Cross-party talks would continue next week and the government hoped to be able to present a bill to parliament before the summer break, he added.

A Danish think tank focused on legal issues, Justitia, warned that banning some imams from entering the country could violate free speech laws.

“Any entry ban on hate preachers should be limited to people who are considered to pose a threat to national security or who have encouraged terrorism or violence against groups of people,” it said in a statement….”

  8. French blast brands behind Islamic ‘burqinis’ (thelocal, Mar 30, 2016)
    http://www.thelocal.fr/20160330/france-blasts-brands-behind-islamic-burqinis

“A French minister and the country’s top fashion guru has spoken out about “irresponsible” brands creating Islamic clothing lines, joining a vocal chorus of opposition.

The French families minister, Laurence Rossignol, told the BFM TV she was “shocked” by the “irresponsibility” of the brands creating Islamic clothing and headscarves.

“When brands invest in the Islamic clothing market – just because it’s lucrative – they’re stepping away from their social responsibilities, and from some perspectives, they’re promoting an enslavement of women’s bodies,” she said.

Her comments came after former fashion mogul Pierre Berge lashed out at the designers, accusing them of taking part in the “enslavement of women”.

The French businessman, partner of the late fashion legend Yves Saint Laurent, took aim at the wave of big fashion chains that have followed the Italian designers Dolce & Gabbana in catering specifically to the Muslim market.

“I am scandalized,” he told Europe 1 French radio.

“Creators should have nothing to do with Islamic fashion. Designers are there to make women more beautiful, to give them their freedom, not to collaborate with this dictatorship which imposes this abominable thing by which we hide women and make them live a hidden life.”

“Renounce the money and have some principles,” he declared, lashing the new fashion for “modest” Muslim-friendly lines.

Earlier this year Dolce & Gabbana became the first major western brand to openly aim at capturing a corner of the Islamic fashion market – estimated to be worth $260 billion (230 billion euros) – with its Abaya range.

It included 14 abayas or ankle-length dresses, which it matched with embroidered headscarves and hijabs….”

  9. France should ‘tax the elderly to help its struggling youth’ (thelocal, Mar 30, 2016)
    http://www.thelocal.fr/20160330/tax-the-elderly-more-to-help-frances-youths

“A study by France Strategie, a government-linked think tank, has suggested that France’s older population should be hit just a little harder by the tax man.

The study suggested the younger generation would stand to gain from a reduction in the older generation’s tax benefits, reported the L’Express newspaper.

And the younger generation could certainly use a hand, with the study pointing out a number of inequalities (when measured relatively) between today’s youth and their predecessors, especially when it comes to jobs, housing, and public spending.

The think tank noted that France could learn from Germany, a country with an aging population, where pensions have remained the same between 1999 and 2013, while in France they rose by 53 percent.

As a result, Germany has managed to invest a lot more in education, for example, when compared to France. …”

    • Try reducing taxes, the excess spending by the civilians will cause tax revenue to raise many times what is lost.

        • What most people forget or never knew is that the French Revolution is what inspired Karl Marx in his writings and that a failed revolt around Paris during the 1870s is where the name communism comes from. Also Napoleon is credited with creating the first true secret police in the west. France has as much history as a tyrannical nation (sorry Rita) as it does as a free nation.

In many ways thanks to the 19th Century German Philosophers German has a longer history of supporting freedom. This history was why so many people had a hard time believing the reports of the death camps until they were liberated and their was photographic evidence.

  10. French are ‘even more anti-EU than the Brits’ (thelocal, Mar 30, 2016)
    http://www.thelocal.fr/20160330/france-home-to-more-eurosceptics-than-the-uk

“A study on how citizens across Europe are feeling towards the EU and migrants has revealed that the French are among the most negative, while it’s perhaps no surprise which nation is the most positive.

The French, along with the Belgians, the Dutch and the Italians, harbour the most negative views of the European Union, according to the poll by Elabe, carried out for French news site Atlantico.

Only 26 percent of the French and the Italians consider that there are “more advantages than drawbacks” when it comes to being part of the EU.

For the Dutch and the Belgians it’s only 25 percent.

Whereas in Britain, which is embroiled in an increasingly bitter debate on whether or not to stay in the EU ahead of June’s referendum, 36 percent of people believe there are “more advantages than drawbacks” of EU membership…”

    • The EU is dead, it is still moving because the bureaucrats think, probably correctly that not only their jobs but in many cases their lives depend on keeping the EU going.

  11. Around 20 Islamic State group recruiters arrested in Moscow (france24, Mar 30, 2016)
    http://www.france24.com/en/20160330-around-20-islamic-state-group-recruiters-arrested-moscow

“Around 20 followers of Islamic State (IS) group were arrested in Moscow while trying to recruit new fighters, RIA news agency reported Wednesday, citing a security source.

“During a joint operation of the FSB (Federal Security Service) and the police, around twenty people suspected of connections to ISIS (Islamic State) were arrested,” RIA quoted the source as saying.

“According to preliminary information, they were searching for and recruiting new members in Moscow.”

Reuters reported that the FSB could not immediately be reached for comment, while the police declined to discuss the matter…”

      • They are saying that all 18 people were from Uzbekistan, that they all had Turkish passports but these passports were a forgery. They are also saying that the network was organized long time ago. They prepared false documents for people who were going to Syria, and they organized transit to Syria. Their equipment was quite simple, also they lived in primitive conditions (I mean 10 people in one small room, they call it “migrant style” ). They are also doing a propaganda (although in my opinion more white then black) about Turkey. They are saying that the people connected to ISIS which plan terrorist actions on the Russian territory may expect support from Turkish intelligence agencies.

        • They are also doing a propaganda (although in my opinion more white then black) about Turkey.

I’m sure you’re right. They do have a huge population of undocumented labor from the south. I’m praying – no evil eye! – as I say this, but I’m surprised they haven’t had more attacks in the big Russian population centers.

          • You can thank the FSB for the lack of attacks, they may be the successors of the KGB and follow the paths of their evil predecessors but they are good.

        • Given Edogans (sp?) desire to be Caliph there is probably a much larger Turkish component in the various jihad groups in Europe then we will know for several centuries.

          • These days time is compressed, what with wiki-type leakers, hackers, etc. Maybe we’ll learn things more quickly. Maybe even in time to do something about them.

            A very tentative “maybe”.

  12. King Mohammed VI Donates €30,000 for Construction of Al Ihsane Mosque in Holland (moroccoworldnews, Mar 30, 2016)
    http://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2016/03/183267/king-mohammed-vi-donates-e30000-for-construction-of-al-ihsane-mosque-in-holland/

“Rabat – King Mohammed VI donated €30,000 for the construction of a new mosque in Amsterdam during his ongoing stay in the Netherlands’ capital city, according to a Facebook post Tuesday by a community leader in charge of the development of the new Islamic center of worship.

The construction of the Al Ihsane mosque – located in a neighborhood of Amsterdam called Geuzenveld, or Garden City, – began late last year, according to Het Parool, a Dutch news source. Once the building is complete, it will cover an area of 1,600 square meters, be 11 meters high and include a roof terrace for visitors to enjoy.

The community members supporting the mosque are financing construction costs through a number of donation drives. To cover all of the expenses involved, they must raise 600,000 euros in addition to the king’s donation and revenues from previous fundraising efforts.

The Moroccan monarch arrived in Amsterdam last Friday for a private visit to the European country – home to a significant Moroccan diaspora population. 15. Distorted history: Researchers share only 25% of findings for fear of their lives (tribune, Mar 30, 2016)
    http://tribune.com.pk/story/1075968/distorted-history-researchers-share-only-25-of-findings-for-fear-of-their-lives/

“KARACHI: Widespread presence of hate material in government textbooks can be gauged from the fact that an activist, while sharing details of a study conducted on the subject, admitted they shared only 25% of their findings for fear of their lives.

“If we had put in all the samples of hate material found in public school textbooks, we would have been killed,” said Kashif Aslam, an official of the National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP).

NCJP, along with Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research (Piler), organised a seminar titled ‘Uprooting Religious Intolerance through Formal Education’ at the Marriott hotel on Wednesday. Aslam said in their latest study of 2015-2016, NCHP analysed 70 textbooks, including those of Urdu, Islamiat and optional subjects, such as ethics, from all four provinces.

The study reveals the presence of hate material in the form of distortion of history, material promoting gender bias, extremism and violence, and hate speech. The study has highlighted the controversial material with the name of the book, lesson, and page number. “In our textbooks, Hindus are our enemies and are only from India, while Christians are portrayed as agents and promoters of West,” said Aslam.

Giving examples, he said textbooks have also distorted the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Similarly, when textbooks narrate the Partition, they only give a picture of Pakistan’s side, and exclude details of atrocities committed on the other side.

“We have found that 100 lines of hate speech which were present five years ago in a book are still present. Things have been included in the textbook but the hate material has not been excluded,” he explained…”

  22. PARIS. The French police have a problem with Islamists in its ranks

. In a confidential document from the Ministry of Public Security (Prefecture of Police) present the newspaper Le Parisien, there is talk of 17 cases of radicalization 2012-2015.

Accordingly, officers listened during a patrol to Muslim chants and circulated them. it also emphasizes the refusal to participate in a minute of silence for victims of terrorism. In addition, Muslim police officers reportedly refused to protect synagogues.
In one case, the police became aware of an official who on Facebook called for terrorist acts and had called her police uniform “filthy rags of the Republic” while she wiped her hands with it.. She then returned from the toilet wearing headscarf and justified her behavior in court with a frase that exhibitionism is prohibited (in her religion).
Although the number of such incidents is low, they give the security forces, according to Le Parisien great concern. Therefore, the police leadership has decided to detect cases that violate the principle of secularism in a weekly magazine.
    Affected mainly young officers

The cases documented in the journal therefore concern mainly the pursuit of the Muslim faith with regard to the daily prayers and the clothing. To a large extent is young officers who are active in the lower police levels.

The French military has a problem with the radicalization of Muslim soldiers reportedly. Already in 2013 was Colonel Pascal Rolez, assistant deputy director of counterintelligence at the Direction de la Protection et de la Sécurité de la Défense (DPSD) warned: “We are witnessing a growing radicalization among French soldiers, especially since the Merah affair.” Mohammed Mehra had murdered in March 2012 four Jews in a school in Toulouse and three French soldiers.

The military also has problems with radicals

After the attacks on the editors of the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo , the radio station RFI reported the desertion of a dozen French soldiers who joined the jihadists in Syria and Iraq At the same time in the police there was conspiciour a 35-year sub-officer of the gendarmerie ,who was converted to Islam in 2011 and had maintained a relationship with Amar Ramadani.

This was one of the accomplices of Amedy Coulibaly, who carried out an Islamist terrorist attack on a kosher supermarket in early January, 2015. The policewoman had 60 times looked into the national database of suspicious people and was convicted of violating safety regulations to one year probation and dismissed from the service.

After the terrorist attack on Charlie Hebdo began the French military 10,000 armed soldiers to protect synagogues, Jewish schools and major transport nodes and mosques. According to the daily Le Figaro, these are no longer a simple support of the police, but a permanent military mission. (Ls)
