  1. TERROR WARNING: Evil ISIS jihadis ‘poised to use drones to bomb STADIUMS’ (express, Feb 25, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/647294/Terror-warning-Evil-ISIS-islamic-state-jihadis-poised-use-drones-to-bomb-stadiums

“DRONES carrying explosives could be used by twisted Islamic State jihadis to target major sporting events in Europe and the US, intelligent experts have warned.

According to sources it is “only a matter of time” before depraved ISIS terrorists unleash drone attacks on global stadiums.

They fear the attacks could be deployed by sleeper cells or lone wolves and analysts at the Open Briefing think tank believe the sick death cult are already using swarms of drones in Iraq and Syria.

The group’s chief executive Chris Abbott said: “ISIS are already using drones in Iraq and Syria for intelligence gathering, quite successfully for battlefield awareness.

“They are in direct competition now with al Qaeda and are desperate to launch a mass casualty attack on Western targets.”…”

    • Given the payload of the commercial drones it would take a lot of them to do a lot of damage, of course any attack that forces the west to change how it does things is considered a successful attack.

  2. ‘Drunk migrant sparked BRAWL in asylum centre after trying to STAB worker in medicine row’ (express, Feb 25, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/647313/drunk-migrant-brawl-asylum-centre-stabbing-worker-medecine-row

“A DRUNK migrant was arrested after sparking a brawl at an asylum centre and savagely assaulting a member of staff who tried to give him medicine, according to police.

The migrant allegedly chased the worker out of a window and tried to stab him in a frenzied attack which nearly cost the staff member his life.

The asylum-seeker furiously attacked the worker after he asked for medicine but only offered paracetamol, a police report claimed.

The 25-year-old reportedly destroyed tables and chairs and chased the member of staff out the window, sparking a brawl with other migrants.

Police and four ambulances were called to the centre in Nordanstig, Sweden.

Staff finally managed to overpower the man before he was arrested for aggravated assault and vandalism…”

  3. Terrorists in ‘ADVANCED STAGES’ of planning deadly attack in Indonesia, officials warn (express, Feb 25, 2016)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/647315/terrorists-advanced-stages-planning-another-deadly-attack-Indonesia-officials-warn

“DEPRAVED terrorists could be planning another deadly attack on Indonesia just days after similar warnings were handed out about the Malaysian capital by the Australian government.

Officials in Australia have sent a chilling warning that militants “may be in the advanced stages of preparing attacks in Indonesia”.

Indonesia’s capital Jakarta was rocked last month when twisted Islamic State jihadis launched a bomb and gun assault on the city, leaving seven people dead.

The Australian authorities issued a similar warning earlier this week that the attacks could happen on Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur, warning Australians and Westerners not to travel to the south eastern country.

Officials in Britain, New Zealand and Canada all warned against traveled to the islands in the past week as tensions rise in the area.

Australia has consistently placed Indonesia in the second-lowest of four warning categories, and recommended travellers “exercise a high degree of caution in Indonesia, including Jakarta, Bali and Lombok, due to the high threat of terrorist attack”.

However, a spokesman for the Indonesian national police, Agus Rianto, said there were no indications of an imminent attack.

He said: ”We’re working continuously with relevant institutions and with the public to maintain security.”

Last month, ISIS released a sickening video which showed fighters from the militant group Katibah Nusantara speaking under the ISIS logo – the first threat from the savage regime in the Malay language…”

    • The only way that the world is going to stop these constant attacks by Muslim terrorists is to take drastic measures to wipe it out. When they catch guys planning an attack they need to waterboard them until they give up their fellow-Jihadis, then go round the baddies up and then do the same to them. This is a war, and as long as we keep seeing it as a social/racial/criminal situation, the longer we are going to keep losing.

Interesting, isn’t it, that Obama has done everything within his power to put the fight against terrorism into a criminal narrative, complete with lawyers and trials and media propaganda. It’s almost as if he’s…oh, what the heck…no one seems to care…

      • The last poll I saw says over 40% of the American voters think he is Moslem, and a lower but significant number think he is working to destroy the US. Part of the problem is that people refuse to believe that a US President could hate the US and be working to destroy us. Another part is the way the left has been demonizing all of their political enemies, a lot of people are placing the very real evidence of Obama’s crimes on the same level of the lefts lies. I don’t know if this is an unintended consequence or a goal in their campaign of lies.

        • Good point. By slinging so much mud around the left has turned the public off to politicians in general and caused them to say “A pox on both their houses”, as they dismiss the lot of them as creeps. People love to sound like Solomon as they say things like, “It’s the same on both sides of the isle.”, and “One side’s just as bad as the other.”. They think that creating moral equivalencies is a sign of great intelligence and wisdom. God, that bug me!

          • Yup, that is what the lefts wants, for the voters to think both sides are the same, and this is why the two outsiders in the Republican race (Trump and Cruz) are leading, they are attacking the Republican leadership and the voters love it.

          • A lot noticed and a lot cared but it was politically unfeasible to impeach him, the votes in the House and Senate just weren’t there and trying impeach him and failing would have put us in a worse position. The stolen election in 2012 was also noticed and cared about and people have been working to ensure this can’t happen again. Note that this shows how law abiding the US Right is because despite all of the illegal actions by Obama and company we have continued to fight in the courts and not in the street. I personally think that it is too late for the legal process to work out before the major fighting starts in the streets.

We have fought Obama in the courts and tried to remain a First World nation instead of a Third World nation. Events are about to force the American right to act like a Third World nation and the left will discover just how big a mistake they have made.

“AN alleged fanatic repeatedly told two teenage boys he had befriended how he wanted to hurt non-Muslims at an anti-Islam event.

Abdul Malik Abdul Kareem told the teenagers, aged 13 and 15, he wanted to strap a bomb to himself and blow people up inside a shopping centre, a court heard.

The boys testified against the 44-year-old who is accused of plotting an attack on a Prophet Muhammad cartoon contest last year in Garland, Texas.

  8. Kerry warns Libya may become ‘failed state’ (RT, Feb 25, 2016)
    https://www.rt.com/usa/333549-libya-kerry-failed-state/

“Libya risks becoming “a failed state” if the UN-brokered unity government flops, Secretary John Kerry has said. While Libya remains broke and insecure five years after NATO’s 2011 military intervention, Kerry believes “a wealthy nation” can rebuilt itself.

The remarks by the head of the Department of State came during his second visit to Capitol Hill seeking to defend a proposed $50 billion foreign aid budget for 2017, the last of the Obama administration.

While he focused mostly on recent developments in Syria, Kerry’s attention was briefly shifted to Libya. When asked if “Libya is a failed state,” he replied: “It’s close.”

“We have been working really hard for the last months, particularly, to bring together the government in Tripoli,” Kerry told the House Appropriations Committee on Foreign Operations. “We have a Prime Minister designate, we have a government now; we have a couple of outliers that are resisting that effort. If they cannot get themselves together, yes it will be a failed state.”…”

  9. ISIS threatens Facebook & Twitter CEOs over blocked accounts (RT, Feb 25, 2016)
    https://www.rt.com/news/333563-facebook-twitter-isis-threats/

“Islamic State has released a disturbing video threatening the creator of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg and the CEO of Twitter Jack Dorsey. The footage show a series of chilling messages and a photograph of the pair which is subsequently riddled with fake bullet holes.

The Islamist terrorist group made a 25-minute propaganda video entitled, “Flames of The Supporters,” in which they said they will retaliate if they are forced off the social network sites.

Facebook and Twitter have been launching a campaign to stop Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) and its supporters from using the platforms to spread their propaganda and attract new followers.

The jihadists say they are hitting back and have managed to hack and take control of 10,000 Facebook accounts, 150 Facebook groups and 5,000 Twitter profiles. The terrorist group says it will retaliate if any attempts are made to stop them using the sites.

IS also mocked Twitter and Facebook in its attempts to block accounts they used, adding that they would make 10 new accounts for each one blocked. The video was first published by the Vocativ website, whose analysts found the video on the messaging site Telegram, which is often used by IS jihadists.

There was also a photograph of Zuckerberg and Dorsey, whose faces were covered in mock bullet holes.

A spokesperson for Twitter told the Guardian that the company would not be releasing a response because they receive such threats on a regular basis….”

    • Calais ‘Jungle’ eviction gets go-ahead (BBC, Feb 25, 2016)
      http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-35663225

“The French government’s plan to clear part of the Calais migrant camp known as the “Jungle” has been approved by a court in Lille.

A deadline for around 1,000 migrants to leave the southern part of the camp expired on Tuesday.

The court ruled that the eviction plan for the camp was legal.

The local authority said public areas such as places of worship or schools would not be cleared and said it would be a “humanitarian operation”.

Activists had asked the court to halt the evictions. Those living in the camp, mainly from the Middle East, Afghanistan and Africa, hope to cross the Channel to reach Britain.

Calais Mayor Natacha Bouchart said the authorities were being cautious to avoid people squatting on the site. “We’re relieved by this announcement but we’re vigilant.”

Conditions in the camp are squalid and its sprawling presence has become a controversial issue in both France and the UK.

Belgium this week announced temporary controls on its border with France amid fears of an influx of migrants from the camp.

“It’s our express intention to avoid tent camps like Calais in our country,” Belgian Interior Minister Jan Jambon said.

France has described the Belgian move as “strange”. Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said the very idea of Calais migrants heading for Belgium “doesn’t correspond to reality”….”

    • France: Court gives approval to demolish section of Calais refugee camp

A French court approved plans to demolish the southern part of the Calais refugee camp, with Prefect of Pas-de-Calais Fabienne Buccio commenting on the verdict from the so-called ‘Jungle’ after the announcement of decision in Lille, Thursday.

SOT, Fabienne Buccio, Prefect of Pas-de-Calais (French): “We never considered bulldozing, never.”

Reporter (French): “When can local residents expect the southern part of the Jungle to be cleared?”

Fabienne Buccio, Prefect of Pas-de-Calais (French): “There’s already one part that was cleared. We will continue slowly, regularly and we can hope that in one month, maybe a bit more, but we will manage all together.””

SOT, Reporter: “It means that when you’ll see empty tents you will progressively dismantle them?”

SOT, Fabienne Buccio, Prefect of Pas-de-Calais (French): “Exactly. If migrants want to put them away together with NGOs, there won’t be any problem. This is what we have done already in the first operation. Everything that could be dismantled was dismantled. We only cleared the rubbish that was left. There’s no reason to do this in another way.”

SOT, Fabienne Buccio, Prefect of Pas-de-Calais (French): “Regarding the common areas, it will be as I have already said: places of worship, the school that is still there, offices for migrants’ rights, a cultural place. We have always said that everything that had been made by NGOs in order to improve migrants’ lives was something positive and that we would keep it.”

  10. Homeland Security Is Spilling a Lot of Secrets
    45 Feb 25, 2016 6:00 AM EST
    By Josh Rogin

The Department of Homeland Security suffered over 100 “spills” of classified information last year, 40 percent of which came from one office, according to a leaked internal document I obtained. Officials and lawmakers told me that until the Department imposes stricter policies and sounder practices to better protect sensitive intelligence, the vulnerabilities there could be exploited. Not only does this raise the threat that hostile actors could get their hands on classified information, but may lead to other U.S. agencies keeping DHS out of the loop on major security issues.

A spill is not the same as an unauthorized disclosure of classified information. A Homeland Security official explained that spills often include “the accidental, inadvertent, or intentional introduction of classified information into an unclassified information technology system, or higher-level classified information into a lower-level classified information technology system, to include non-government systems.”

Examples include: using a copier not approved for the level of classified information copied; failing to properly mark a classified product; transmitting classified information on an unclassified system like Gmail; or sending classified information to someone who, while having the proper level of clearance, is not authorized to read a section of information sent to them, the official said.

  11. Libya abuses: UN report documents killings and torture (BBC, Feb 25, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-35658529

“Killings and torture are being committed with impunity by all sides in Libya, according to a UN report.

Human rights violations carried out by armed groups battling for control of the country could amount to war crimes, the report says.

Victims include detainees, journalists and human rights activists. Scores of people have been tortured and killed.

Libya, fragmented since the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, now has rival militia-backed parliaments.

There are hundreds of different armed groups and the chaos has allowed so-called Islamic State to gain a foothold.

Other tactics documented in the report include indiscriminate attacks on civilians, rape and other sexual violence.

This is all happening in a climate of “complete impunity”, the report says, made worse because Libya’s justice system has collapsed.

The crimes are committed by “a multitude of actors – both state and non-state”…”

  12. Somalia’s al-Shabab killed ‘180 Kenyan troops’ in el-Ade (BBC, Feb 25, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-35658500

“At least 180 Kenyan troops were killed when al-Shabab attacked their base last month, Somalia’s president has said.

Kenya’s army said the number was untrue, but again refused to give its own casualty figures for the assault in the southern Somali base of el-Ade.

The Islamist militant group said it had killed about 100 Kenyan troops.

If it is confirmed that 180 troops were killed, it would be al-Shabab’s deadliest assault since it was formed nearly a decade ago…”

  13. Egypt jails Coptic Christians for insulting Islam (BBC, Feb 25, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-35661870

“An Egyptian court has sentenced three Coptic Christian teenagers to five years in prison for insulting Islam after they appeared in a video apparently mocking Muslim prayers.

A fourth defendant was sent to a juvenile detention centre by the court in the central province of Minya.

The teenagers argued they were mocking beheadings by the Islamic State group.

Egypt’s Christians have long complained of discrimination in the predominantly Muslim country.

The four teenagers were convicted by the court in the city of Beni Mazar on Thursday.

Security was stepped up around the court building, with a number of police vehicles reportedly deployed in the area.

Defence lawyer Maher Naguib described the verdict as “unbelievable”, saying he would appeal.
The video was published online last April – shortly after IS jihadists beheaded dozens of Egyptian Christians in Libya.

The student’s teacher, who filmed the video, was sentenced to three years in prison in a separate trial.

There have been a number of blasphemy cases in recent months…”

  14. France’s earliest ‘Muslim burials’ found (BBC, Feb 25, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-35660488

“Researchers have identified what may be the earliest Muslim burials in France.

The three skeletons unearthed at Nimes show indications of Islamic burial rites and are thought to date to the eighth century AD.

A team used DNA, radiocarbon dating and archaeological analysis to show the individuals may have been North African soldiers from a brief occupation of southern France by an Islamic army.

Details of the analysis are published in the journal Plos One.

In each of the three graves, the bodies were placed on their right-hand sides facing south-east – in the direction of Mecca. The way the burial pit was dug, with a lateral niche closed off by slabs or stones also corresponds to a traditional Islamic burial practice.

Analysis of the skeletons reveals that two of the three males were in their late twenties or early thirties, while the other was about 50 years of age.

Radiocarbon dating of all three burials gave age ranges within the 7th and 8th centuries.

The scientists also carried out genetic analysis on the remains. They found that the Y chromosome DNA from all three males belonged to a type very common in Berbers from North Africa, but largely absent from Europe, including France.

Mitochondrial DNA – which is passed down from a mother to her offspring – from one of the younger males also belonged to a specifically African lineage. But mitochondrial DNA from the other two burials belonged to types that are found both in Europe and North Africa.

In their Plos One paper, the team from the University of Bordeaux and France’s Inrap archaeological centre, propose how the apparently Muslim individuals came to be in southern France at this time.

In the early 8th Century, Nimes was part of the Visigothic Kingdom, comprising the territory of present-day Spain, Portugal and south-eastern France (Septimania).

But in 711, Muslim troops invaded the Iberian Peninsula and rapidly conquered the territories held by the Visigoths, crossing the eastern Pyrenees into what is now France in 719.

This army, representing the medieval Umayyad Caliphate may have established alliances with the local population against a common enemy from the north: the Franks, a Germanic people who later gave their name to France.

Co-author Yves Gleize and colleagues propose that the three individuals were troops in this conquering Umayyad army, possibly as part of a local garrison.

“The joint archaeological, anthropological and genetic analysis of three early medieval graves at Nimes provides evidence of burials linked with Muslim occupation during the 8th Century,” said Dr Gleize.

The next earliest Muslim burials in France are from the 13th Century in Marseille.”

  15. Migrant crisis: Greece recalls ambassador from Austria amid EU rifts (BBC, Feb 25, 2016)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-35658776

“Greece has recalled its ambassador to Austria amid sharp divisions among EU states over the migrant crisis.

The move came after Austria hosted a meeting with Balkan states on the migrant issue, to which Greece was not invited.

Greece called the move an “unfriendly act”. It said its ambassador was recalled for “consultations”.

Ministers from EU and Balkan nations are meeting in Brussels to try to heal rifts over the migrant issue.

Austria, Serbia and Macedonia have taken their own steps to limit entry to migrants, angering Greece, which fears the controls will cause a bottleneck.

In a statement, the Greek foreign ministry said that the ambassador was being recalled “in order to safeguard the friendly relations between the states and the people of Greece and Austria”.

It said that problems facing the European Union “cannot be dealt with, with thoughts, mentalities and extra-institutional initiatives that have their roots in the 19th Century”.

Speaking in Brussels. Greek Migration Minister Yannis Mouzalas said his country would “not accept becoming Europe’s Lebanon, a warehouse of souls”.

Lebanon is home to about a million of the four million Syrians who have fled to neighbouring countries…”

  16. Afghanistan war: Just what was the point? (CNN, Feb 25, 2016)
    http://edition.cnn.com/2016/02/25/asia/afghanistan-war-analysis/index.html

“(CNN)It is worse in Afghanistan now than I ever could have imagined. And I was a pessimist.

Fatigue was always going to be the decider. Western fatigue with the horrors their troops saw, and with the violence inflicted daily on Afghans themselves. The fatigue of the financial cost, where a power station that was barely ever switched on cost Uncle Sam a third of a billion dollars.

And the other fatigue — the one felt by the Taliban — mostly distinguished by its absence; they felt only the tirelessness of their cause.

Sometimes the occasional jolt reminds the world that the war is still ongoing. The conflict, begun initially to oust the Taliban that sheltered al Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden after the September 11, 2001 attacks on the U.S., has cost the lives of more than 3,500 Coalition service members and tens of thousands of Afghan civilians.

This week, Afghan troops, after months of fury at poor supplies and low morale, fell back from two vital positions in the volatile Helmand province. It leaves Lashkar Gah and Sangin as the major strongholds the government still holds, and a sense of foreboding that the opium-rich southern region will eventually entirely belong to the Taliban…….”

  17. Immigration or an iPhone
We don’t have an encryption problem; we have a Muslim immigration problem.

The public argument between Apple and the FBI over cracking the encryption on an iPhone used by the San Bernardino Muslim terrorists is one of those ongoing civil liberties debates that negotiate the terms on which we are asked to sacrifice our civil liberties for the sake of Muslim immigration.

We have already made a thousand accommodations and we will make a thousand more. There will be more databases, naked scanners, eavesdropping, vans that can see through walls, backdoors to every server, registrations, warrantless searches, interceptions and regulations. There will be heavily armed police on the streets. And then curfews and soldiers. These things exist in Europe. They’ll come here.

Some libertarians will argue that we should have none of this and no restrictions on immigration. That we should just shrug off each terror attack and move on with our lives.

Eventually though there will be a terror attack that we can’t shrug off and that can’t be minimized by using the cheap statistical trick of comparing Terror Attack X to the number of people who die every year from cancer. Or there will just be an endless parade of daily attacks, bombings, stabbings or shootings, as in Israel, which create a constant climate of terror that will preclude any hollow rhetoric about the number of people falling off ladders each year or getting struck by lightning.

Some hawks will cheer every terror fighting measure short of closing the door on the root cause of the problem. They would rather see every American wiretapped, strip searched and monitored every hour of the day then just stop the flow of Muslim terrorists into this country.

The encryption methods of an iPhone, like the question of how many ounces there are in your tiny bottle of mouthwash, would not be much of an issue, if Muslim migration did not make it one.

    • If you see a cobra slipping down your basement stairs and into the dark, do you just turn out the lights and go to bed? Well, not if you don’t want to find your twelve-year-old lying dead on the kitchen floor in the morning. So, what do you do? Perhaps you should burn your house down. That would, after all, solve the problem in a way. Or perhaps you should take a really radical right wing racist hater redneck conservative approach by getting someone who knows a lot about cobras to come over to your house and kill the damn thing, and then make sure that no more cobras slither down your basement stairs. For the typical left winger, I suppose this is a real conundrum…

      • Doesn’t have to be, Chris.
Find a cobra-killer who says, “In the name of Allah-blah-blah, the Merciful, Compassionate….” Then kills the serpent.

  18. The #BlackLivesMatter Cult Returns To the White House
Obama’s racist disciples are still learning at the feet of the master agitator.
    February 25, 2016
    Matthew Vadum

That cop-hating radical DeRay Mckesson and other leaders of the virulently racist Black Lives Matter movement were again welcomed to the White House last week is yet another reminder that President Obama approves of their in-your-face antics and violent activism.

Mckesson, who recently decided his expertise in fomenting civil unrest qualified him to run for mayor of Baltimore, is a frequent visitor to the Obama White House, according to official visitor logs. This poster child for civic dysfunction showed up in December at the White House Christmas party and felt comfortable enough to grab a selfie with Surgeon General Vivek Murthy.

When Obama speaks of the Black Lives Matter movement and the deeds of its adherents there is always an air of make-believe. The president grossly exaggerates the extent of police brutality in America today and tells lie after lie in order to puff up the radical agitators.

That’s the way it is with cults.

Black Lives Matter, which is funded by hedge fund manager George Soros, is not merely a political movement: it’s a Marxist, anti-American, revolutionary cult whose members aim to unleash a reign of terror on our society. They celebrate when police officers are killed in the line of duty. They don’t want equality; they demand that black Americans receive special, preferential treatment. Disagree and they’ll howl you’re a racist, boycott your business, or try to get you investigated for hate crimes.

  19. News From the Magic Kingdom
The true reason the Saudis are so worried about wizards and witches.

From Saudi Arabia comes the news that the mutaween, the feared religious police under the control of the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, who patrol the streets and regulate the daily life of the populace, are now being given five-day courses in how to recognize, and then how to neutralize, a small army of wizards, witches, ghosts, demons, fortunetellers in the Magic Kingdom. Apparently it’s a big problem. Why, there have even been reports of leprechaun-like creatures – possibly they’ve wandered down from the Old Sod to end up in the Empty Quarter – who find it great fun to persuade innocent Saudis to break the rules of Sharia. All these dealers in the magical and supernatural will be hunted down, and dealt with sternly, by the Saudi religious police — “sternly” can mean anything from long prison sentences to decapitation. Such worries are not new to the Saudis, however — the official anti-witchcraft unit within the Ministry of the Interior was first formed in May 2009.

The reason the Saudis are so worried about wizards and witches is that the Saudi people, like other Muslims, are especially vulnerable to the appeal of the occult. Muslims learn from the Qur’an that there exists an intelligent creature (the only other intelligent creature in the universe, according to Islamic doctrine, aside from humans and angels), called the Djinn (or Jinn), whose meddling with humans explains Evil, as well as health and illness, wealth and poverty, that Man as a creature of fate – where everything may be inshallah but is not necessarily hunky-dory — may enjoy or endure. Evil djinn — not all djinn in Islam are bad – can take possession of people and cause them to behave in wicked ways.

  20. Drs. Propose Female Genital Alteration as FGM ‘Compromise’
‘I am beyond horrified by [these] so called “ethicists” …There is NO compromise against the immorality and barbarism of FGM.’ — Dr. M. Zuhdi Jasser.

Writing in the British Journal of Medial Ethics, two U.S.-based doctors have proposed that as a “compromise solution,” it would be better to adopt a “more nuanced position” on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) — one “that acknowledges a wide spectrum of procedures that alter female genitalia.”

The doctors think that the worldwide drive in recent years to completely eradicate the brutal practice, without allowing “minor” modifications is “culturally insensitive and supremacist and discriminatory towards women.”

They argue that criminalizing FGM in Western countries has pushed the practice underground in the U.K. and the U.S. and given rise to “vacation cutting,” a phenomena where girls are taken to their native countries during summer vacations for the harmful and traumatic procedure.

Doctors Kavita Shah Arora, director of quality, obstetrics and gynecology at the MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland and Dr. Allan Jacobs, professor of reproductive medicine at Stony Brook University, believe that minor alterations of the female genitalia do not “reach the threshold of a human rights violation” and should not be considered child abuse.

  21. Belgium: Migration system may break down in 10 days without results – EU Migration commissioner

The EU’s migration system could break down, if no “clear results on the ground” are reached within the next ten days, EU Commissioner on Migration Dimitris Avramopoulos warned in Brussels, Thursday.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Dutch Minister of Migration Klaas Dijkhoff, Avramopoulos added “We all have a responsibility to step up our efforts to apply the agreed European solutions. There is no time for uncoordinated actions.”

    • Greece recalls ambassador from Austria in migrant row

Greece recalled its ambassador from Austria on Thursday and warned it would not be treated as “Europe’s Lebanon” as the migrant crisis strained relations between EU states to breaking point.

Talks between European Union (EU) interior ministers in Brussels descended into chaos due to the row over Austria’s decision to call a western Balkans meeting this week without inviting Greece.

The EU’s attempts to forge a unified response to the biggest migration crisis in its history are fraying as individual 28 member states increasingly take matters into their own hands to protect their borders.

The Greek foreign ministry hit out at what it called “19th-century” attitudes and said the envoy’s recall was designed to “safeguard friendly relations between the states and peoples of Greece and Austria”.

Athens was already seething over a series of border restrictions by Austria, Macedonia and Serbia along the migrant trail to northern Europe that has caused a bottleneck in Greece, the main entry point to Europe from Turkey.

Greece, still struggling with the fallout from its eurozone debt crisis last year, faces huge pressure to stop “waving through” migrants to the rest of the EU.

But Migration Minister Yannis Mouzalas accused other states of trying to make Athens take the brunt of the crisis.

“Greece will not accept becoming Europe’s Lebanon, a warehouse of souls, even if this were to be done with major (EU) funding,” Mouzalas told reporters in Brussels.

Lebanon hosts around a quarter of the four million Syrians who have fled to neighbouring countries.

In northern Greece, hundreds of migrants and refugees left an accommodation camp to walk to the distant border with Macedonia, days after Skopje slashed the number of people it allows through each day.

“They are mainly youths… they do not want to wait for buses to pick them up… neither the army nor the police can stop them because there is the risk of (violence),” Thessaloniki Mayor Yiannis Boutaris said.

The crisis caused by refugees and migrants from Syria, the Middle East and Africa shows no signs of abating with 100,000 arriving in Europe so far this year on top of one million in 2015.

Earlier EU migration commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos urged ministers to find a solution, warning that the crisis threatened the survival of the more than 60-year-old union.

“Lonely initiatives do not lead anywhere. Now, the unity of the union and human lives are at stake,” said Avramopoulos, who is from Greece.

But Austrian interior minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner raised the possibility of Greece’s exclusion from Europe’s Schengen passport-free travel zone, which is cracking as countries reintroduce border controls.

“If it is really the case that the Greek external border cannot be protected, can it be still a Schengen external border?” she said.

German interior minister Thomas De Maziere warned that Thursday’s meeting was the last chance before Europe had to take more drastic steps, especially given the large numbers still coming via Greece.

“If a solution by the 7th of March is not possible, there have to be other European and coordinated measures,” he said.

March 7 is the date of an EU-Turkey summit that will assess the progress of a three-billion-euro ($3.2 billion) deal signed with Ankara in November to cut the flow of migrants.

A further row broke out between Paris and Brussels after Belgium decided to impose checks at its border with France to stop people coming from the “Jungle” migrant camp in Calais.

“This decision is a strange one, just as is its motivation,” French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said.

Meanwhile the European Commission questioned Hungary’s decision to hold a referendum on mandatory quotas for refugees, which the bloc’s leaders agreed on last year to deal with the migrant crisis.

“We fail to understand how it would fit into the decision-making progress agreed to by all EU member states under the treaties,” European Commission spokeswoman Natasha Bertaud told a news briefing.

So far only 598 people have been relocated from frontline states Greece and Italy, out of a planned 160,000.

In a positive development, NATO on Thursday managed to overcome sharp differences between long-time rivals Greece and Turkey to finalise an unprecedented naval mission to tackle migrant smugglers in the Aegean.

Turkish government co-operated with al-Qaeda in Syria, says former US ambassador

Officials supported the extremist group’s Syrian wing in a failed attempt to moderate extremists, according to Francis Ricciardone

Turkey has directly supported al-Qaeda’s wing in Syria in defiance of the United States, the former American ambassador to Ankara has said.

The Turkish authorities thought they could work with extremist Islamist groups in the Syrian civil war and at the same time push them to become more moderate, Francis Ricciardone, who was until late June the US ambassador to Ankara, told journalists in a briefing.

That led them to work with Jabhat al-Nusra, al-Qaeda’s branch, as well as hardline Salafi Islamist groups like Ahrar al-Sham. Mr Ricciardone said that he tried to persuade the Turkish government to close its borders to the groups, but to no avail.

    • Turkey has most firms involved in supply chain to ISIL: report

Companies from 20 countries are involved in the supply chain of components that end up in Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) explosives, a study found on Thursday, revealing Turkey had the highest number of firms involved in this business.

A total of 13 Turkish firms were found to be involved in the supply chain, the most in any one country. That was followed by India with seven. In a critical finding, the Turkish government failed to cooperate with the investigation according to Conflict Armament Research (CAR), which undertook the 20-month study. Thursday’s report also suggested that governments and firms need to do more to track the flow of cables, chemicals and other equipment. The European Union-mandated study showed that 51 companies from countries including Turkey, Brazil, and the United States produced, sold or received the more than 700 components used by ISIL to build improvised explosive devices (IEDs). IEDs are now being produced on a “quasi-industrial scale” by the militant group, which uses both industrial components that are regulated and widely available equipment such as fertilizer chemicals and mobile phones, ISIL controls large swathes of Iraq and Syria. NATO member Turkey shares borders with both countries and has stepped up security to prevent the flow of weapons and insurgents to the hardline Sunni group. “These findings support growing international awareness that IS forces in Iraq and Syria are very much self-sustaining — acquiring weapons and strategic goods, such as IED components, locally and with ease,” said James Bevan, CAR’s executive director. The sale of these cheap and readily available parts, some of which are not subject to government export licenses, is far less scrutinized and regulated than the transfer of weapons. The study found that ISIL is able to acquire some components in as a little as a month after their lawful supply to firms in the region, suggestion a lack of oversight in the supply chain. “Companies having effective accounting systems to establish where the goods went after them would act as a deterrent,” Bevan said.

      ‘Refused to cooperate’

Bevan said the Turkish government refused to cooperate with CAR’s investigation so the group was not able to determine the efficacy of Ankara’s regulations regarding the tracking of components.

Turkish government officials did not reply to requests for comment. CAR gained access to the components through partners including the Washington-backed Kurdish YPG in Syria, the Iraqi Federal Police, the Kurdistan Region Security Council and forces of the Kurdistan Regional Government. The components were recovered during major battles around the Iraqi towns of al Rabia, Kirkuk, Mosul, and Tikrit and the Syrian town of Kobani. The report’s authors said they attempted to contact the companies linked to the components, adding the firms did not respond or were not able to account for where the goods went after they left their custody. Seven Indian companies manufactured most of the detonators, detonating cord, and safety fuses documented by CAR. Those were all legally exported under government-issued licenses from India to entities in Lebanon and Turkey, CAR found.

Companies from Brazil, Romania, Russia, the Netherlands, China, Switzerland, Austria and Czech Republic were also involved, the report found.
