    • Man who drove car at French troops guarding mosque said to have jihadi propaganda in computer

French investigators found jihadist propaganda material on Saturday in the computer of a man who drove his car into troops guarding a mosque in southern France on New Year’s Day but said it did not prove he had links with any terrorist groups.

“The inspection of his computer led to the discovery of jihadi propaganda images,” local prosecutor Alex Perrin told Reuters.

“These are downloadable images that are a few weeks old. Not the worst type of images, but rather bellicose slogans,” he said. “It shows he had an appreciation of that but it does not prove he had links with terrorist organizations.”

The 29-year old Frenchman of Tunisian descent rammed his car into a group of four soldiers in a car park outside a large mosque in a suburb of Valence on Friday afternoon, the prosecutor told reporters earlier on Saturday.

He said earlier there was no evidence of him belonging to any terrorist group and it seemed he had acted alone.

“He reportedly shouted ‘Allah is great’, which suggests some sort of religious element.”

“When he was apprehended, he mentioned the fact that he wanted to kill troops because troops killed people,” the prosecutor added. “He said he wanted to be killed by troops.”

There was also no indication that the man was suffering from mental illness, the prosecutor said. He had been unemployed for several years and was not known to police or intelligence services, the prosecutor added.

The practicing Muslim lived in a suburb of Lyon, 100 km (60 miles) north of the town of Valence where the incident took place. “He had come to Valence, where his family-in-law lives, for the end of year holiday,” the prosecutor said.

He was shot in the legs and arm by the troops and was still in hospital on Saturday. A soldier and a Muslim man were also slightly injured in the incident.

  2. France is in a terrible situation, brought on itself by thinking its laicite culture would protect it. In practice, the authorities restricted and harried the church, while encouraging, and even financing the buiding of mosques. Islam sees the absense of Christianity or any spiritual presence, and the encouragement from authority as allah ordained, and as a vacant place to occupy.

So here we are. France now has to station the military to guard church services over Christmas. In some cases Muslims soldiers were guarding churches.

The media and authorities were over the moon with the above news. What they didn’t realise is that France has become like other “liberal” Islamic countries, where the state guards churches at Christmas or Easter, and other protected religious minorities, as part of the Dhimma pact. What has escaped the French inteligentsia, is that they have unwittingly submitted to Islam, and become dhimmis. Rest assured, the Dhimma bill will be delivered to France at an opportune time.

  4. Syria: Captured ISIS member speaks out on militant group’s relations with Turkey

Mahmut Ghazi Tatar, a captured Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) fighter, revealed details about his time within the ranks of the terrorist organisation and Turkey’s ties with it in Rojava on Saturday, while speaking to a Sputnik correspondent.

“During our studies in the camp, in May 2015, our commander told that the group is selling gas to Turkey,” Mahmut Ghazi said before adding: “As well, he told us that the oil is sold through some businessman and sellers, although he did not disclose their names. Moreover, Daesh obtains a lot of products from Turkey and the Arab countries.” He went on to describe the training process explaining “During the training, some people from Turkey came to test us. They did not have a beard but they were Daesh members. […] As far as I understood during my training period, thousands of Turkish citizens are fighting within the ranks of Daesh.”

SOT, Mahmut Ghazi Tatar, captured Islamic State member (Turkish): “During our training in the camp, in May 2015, our commander told us that the group is selling gas to Turkey. According to his words, the money from these operations with Turkey helped Daesh to solve all their financial problems. Every day they sent tankers with oil, fuel and gasoline to Turkey. The main source of income for ISIS is oil and their reserves will be sufficient for a long time. The commander told us that ISIS is making huge money on the trade with Turkey. As well, he told us that the oil is sold through some businessman and sellers, although he did not disclose their names. Moreover, Daesh obtains a lot of products from Turkey and the Arab countries.”

SOT, Mahmut Ghazi Tatar, captured Islamic State member (Turkish): “Before the training started, everyone was asked if they would like to become Shahids [ English: Martyr -read suicide bombers ]. I refused. All newcomers are asked that question. People who agree receive special religious training during a six-month period. As I refused, my studies and training lasted only 70 days. We studied using Turkish books. During the training, some people from Turkey came to test us. They did not have a beard but they were Daesh members.”

SOT, Mahmut Ghazi Tatar, captured Islamic State member (Turkish): “In the training camp the commanders told us that Daesh is not planning to attack Turkey. As far as I understood during my training period, thousands of Turkish citizens are fighting within the ranks of Daesh.”

      • Anyone that has read this site and other CJ sites has known this for a long time. It is interesting that this information has only become mainstream since Russia entered the conflict and started bombing the oil trucks bound for Turkey and filmed their arrival at the Turkish border. Why do you suppose the US coalition didn’t make this news? Hmmm…

  5. SPAIN – GRANADA – JAN 02 – Día de la Toma (Conquest Day)

On January 2nd the city commemorates the Conquest of Granada.

It is the most representative holiday regarding its historical aspect for the city.

It remembers the day the Catholic Monarchs entered the Alhambra after the tough agreements signed in Santa Fe on November 25th, 1491.

On January 2nd at dawn, King Boabdil gave over the keys of the Alhambra to Gutierre de Cárdenes in the Salón de la Torre de Comares. Once the door opened, Iñigo López de Mendoza, Count of Tendilla, entered the citadel followed by a great militar parade. Afterwards, Queen Isabella’s confessor, Fray Hernando de Talavera, celebrated the first mass and raised the cross and the royal banner of Castille on the Torre de la Vela.

Nowadays, the celebrations begin at the Capilla Real with a religious function and the waving of the banner which is there kept. Secondly, a civilian-religious parade is organized in which the banner is taken to the main balcony of the City Hall. There, the youngest city councillor waves it three times repeating the protocol formula: “Spain, Castile, Granada, for the illustrious Kings, doña Isabella and don Ferdinand”.

    • SPAIN Allahu ackbar !!! then again Mohammed’s birthday procession goes through Barcelona undisturbed ….

    • I agree with Donald Trump on this one. The White House aggressively and mercilessly ruined General David Petraeus – their best general – for the tiniest, most technical of security breaches, so they should expect no slack whatsoever on the subject of being careless with state secrets et al. They set the rules; let them play by them.

Petraeus might well have been one of those names on the GOP ballot if they hadn’t committed professional murder on the guy. Let the FBI investigate and charge Hillary with all the enthusiasm they exhibited toward the good the general…

      • Obama used the security breach to get rid of an adviser that was not toeing the party line. Remember that the FBI investigation was ordered by a Federal Judge and not Obama, this is why the (in)Justice Department is dragging their feet about any type of prosecution. The only way Hillary will ever be put on trail is if Trump or Cruz is elected and orders the prosecution, if this is done if there isn’t already a civil war the left will start one.

  6. If Hussein Osama really does turn out to be a Manchurian Candidate, I’d bet my bottom dollar that it’s Turkey who is running him. I think a couple of Turkish agents spotted this attractive, intelligent, charismatic, white-acting, half-black Muslim boy with an American citizenship and a communist mother, looked at each other and said, “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?. Let’s be very nice to these people and see what develops. They don’t even have to know who we really are… Excellent…excellent…”.

Why the hell else would Barry have leaned on Benjamin Netanyahu and mysteriously forced him to utterly humiliate himself and apologize and pay restitution to the Turks for the Mavi Marmara “protest boat” incident, which was a terrorist/propaganda attack perpetrated by Turkey against Israel, not the other way around? And why else would Barry be so underhandedly hostile to the Assad regime of Syria and so constantly obliging to the Turks on that front as well? Why should the US be helping Turkey take over Syria? Hell, maybe the Iranians and the Turks both got their hooks into the lad. That’s actually how it looks. And why the heck is he so hostile to Israel, anyway? Only Muslims and Nazis hate Jews so totally and so mindlessly…

Or maybe he’s just a carbon copy of Bill Ayers and simply hates America so much that, one after another, he just picks out the next most horrible, damaging things he can do to the country and then just goes ahead and does it. That’s the other possibility, basically…

He’s definitely doing it on purpose, that’s for sure. Nobody can be that dumb…

    • It is the Moslem Brotherhood that is running him, that or some Shiite group, his insisance that Israel pay Turkey is simply ordering a Jew to payoff a Moslem, The Islamic sect he belongs to only matters when he is trying to decide which sect gets the most weapons and money.

A further slowdown in China’s vast manufacturing sector has intensified worries about the year ahead for the world’s second largest economy.

The latest in a string of downbeat reports from showed that activity at China’s factor ies cooled in December for the fifth month running, as overseas demand for Chinese goods continued to fall.

Against the backdrop of a faltering global economy, turmoil in the country’s stock markets and overcapacity in factories, Chinese economic growth has slowed markedly. The country’s central bank expects growth in 2015 to be the slowest for a quarter of a century.

After growing 7.3% in 2014, the economy is thought to have expanded by 6.9% in 2015 and the central bank has forecast that it may slow further in 2016 to 6.8%.

A series of interventions by policymakers, including interest rate cuts, have done little to revive growth and in some cases served only to heighten concern about China’s challenges.

  8. UW brain implant could help paralyzed limbs move again

University of Washington researchers are working on an implantable device that could help paralyzed people move their limbs, and just received a new federal grant to help with their quest.

    By Katherine Long
    Seattle Times higher education reporter

Researchers at the University of Washington are making progress in a quest to create a device that would allow people who have been paralyzed by injury or stroke to move their limbs.

The goal: To make such a device — which would be implanted in the brain and interpret brain signals — available for clinical trials in eight to 10 years.

Such devices “could be a game changer,” said Rajesh Rao, director of the Center for Sensorimotor Neural Engineering at the UW.

“It would radically alter the way we might help people for stroke or spinal-cord injury,” he said.

The National Science Foundation has granted the center $16?million over the next four years to carry out its research. The center is led by the UW and includes researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, San Diego State University and other partners.

The center was established in 2011 with an $18.5 million federal grant, and in the last four years its discoveries have laid the groundwork for technological advances that could bring the groundbreaking devices to market in the coming decade, Rao said.

In five years, the center hopes to have evidence that it is feasible to implant such a system in animals and some human patients.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The father and son of a prominent Oregon ranching family plan to surrender Monday to serve more time in prison for setting fires that spread to government lands they leased as cattle rangeland.

Seventy-three-year-old Dwight Hammond and 46-year-old Steven Hammond say they lit the fires in 2001 and 2006 to reduce the growth of invasive plants and protect their property from wildfires.

The two were convicted three years ago and served time, but a judge ruled the terms were too short. Federal lawyers prosecuted the ranchers under an anti-terrorism law that they say required a five-year minimum sentence.

  10. France quarrels over revoking citizenship of terrorists

PARIS (AP) — The push by France’s Socialist government to revoke the citizenship of convicted terrorists with dual nationality after the Paris attacks has turned into a harsh political dispute, with the far right applauding the move while some on the left express indignation at what they call a divisive measure.

French President Francois Hollande submitted the proposal three days after the Nov. 13 attacks in Paris that left 130 dead, in a shift toward a hard line on security. The idea appears to have strong support in French public opinion. Several polls over the past week suggest that 80 to 90 percent of the French are in favor of the measure.

Under current French law, citizenship revocation can only be applied to people who have been naturalized, not if they are French-born, and the procedure is rarely implemented.

The new rules would extend it to all dual nationals, but cannot be applied to people who are only French citizens, as France’s obligations under international law prevent it from leaving a person stateless.

  11. Saudi Arabia executes 47 terrorism convicts

The Saudi interior ministry on Saturday said 47 people convicted of plotting and carrying out terrorist attacks, targeting civilians and security forces, were executed.

The ministry statement, published on the official SPA news agency, said the 47 had been convicted of adopting the radical “takfiri” ideology, joining “terrorist organizations” and implementing various “criminal plots.”

Most of those executed were involved in a series of attacks carried out by al-Qaeda from 2003-06 that killed Saudis and foreigners in the kingdom, the interior ministry statement added.

45 of those executed were of Saudi nationality, alongside one Chadian and one Egyptian, according to a list of names and nationalities published by the Saudi Press Agency. The 47 men were based across 12 regions in the kingdom, the interior ministry statement added.

    Reactions

Meanwhile, the kingdom of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates reaffirmed their support to all Saudi efforts to combat terrorism.

The UAE said Saudi Arabia’s implementation of sentences reflects the kingdom’s determination to eradicate terrorism.

Bahrain said the implementation was necessary to maintain security in the region.

A scholar from Egypt’s highest Sunni authority, Al-Azhar, has also welcomed the latest Saudi move saying it is in line with Islamic teachings against terrorists found guilty of murder and sabotage.

“Saudi Arabia has applied the law of God,” said Fawzi al-Zafzaf during an interview with Al Arabiya.net.

    • Iran: Ayatollahs condemn Saudi Arabia’s execution of top Shia cleric

The execution of Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr by Saudi Arabia sparked outrage among Iran’s top clerics, three of whom unanimously condemned the action while speaking out in the city of Qom on Saturday.

“Saudi Arabia has a superstitious religion. They support ISIS, Takfiri and Boko Haram,” said Grand Ayatollah Hossein Noori Hamedani. Grand Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi-Amoli noted that Sheikh Nimr had called for people to unite against the Al-Saud family, while Ayatollah Ja’far Sobhani stated the incident “has wounded Muslim hearts.”

Qom, Jan 2, IRNA – Iranian Theological Schools are closed in protest at Saudi execution of prominent Shia leader Nimr al-Nimr with some 46 other people in Saudi Arabia, religious authorities said on Saturday.

Prominent religious leaders condemned the human tragedy of executing 47 Muslims including the Shia cleric in separate messages and urged all Ulema to mull uprooting the root cause of Takfiri and their main base which is Saudi Arabia.

All clerics will stage protest to express indignation over the execution, they said.
Manager of public relations department of Qom Theology School Hojatoleslam Tayyeb Hosseini said all Ulema and religious leaders will attend the protest at Feyzieh theological school on Sunday.

Member of Assembly of Experts and Tehran’s interim Friday Prayer Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami is to deliver speech.

Immediately after the Saudi Press Agency cabled the human tragedy of executing 47 Saudi nationals including the Shia religious leader, Ayatollah Khatami expressed outrage at the cold-blood crimes of the Saudi leaders and said that the innocent bloods will lead to toppling of the Saudi kingdom.

  12. Saudi Arabia Executes 47 Men, Including Prominent Shiite Cleric

Saudi Arabia executed 47 men convicted of terror-related offenses, including a dissident cleric who was critical of the kingdom’s rulers.

The punishments were carried out in 10 provinces, Saudi Arabia’s interior ministry said in a statement published on Saturday by the official Saudi Press Agency. While most of the convicted men were Saudi citizens, an Egyptian and a Chadian national were among those executed. Some of the men were shot by a firing squad and some were beheaded, a ministry spokesman said on Al-Arabiya TV.

The men were convicted of crimes including bombings that targeted the traffic department and interior ministry in Riyadh, plots to attack military airports, and other strikes on security forces, the ministry said. Some of the attacks happened between 2003 and 2006. Those executed were described as promoters of a “deviant” version of Islam, a phrase used by Saudi Arabia for al-Qaeda, Islamic State and other militant groups.

“This sends a message of resolve and firmness in Saudi Arabia’s policy of confrontation with its two enemies, mainly al-Qaeda and Iran,” Ibrahim Fraihat, senior foreign policy fellow at the Brookings Doha Center, said in an interview. “It will also increase tensions inside Saudi Arabia because it gives the Shiite community new grievances and symbols to rally around within the country.”

  13. Saudi execution of Shiite cleric sparks outrage

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Hossein Jaber Ansari strongly condemned Riyadh for executing Nimr despite repeated Iranian requests for clemency.

Tehran (AFP) – Saudi Arabia’s execution Saturday of a prominent Shiite cleric and 46 other men prompted outrage in parts of the Middle East, with Iran warning Riyadh would pay a “high price”.

But several Saudi allies offered their support after Riyadh implemented death sentences against cleric Nimr al-Nimr, Shiite activists and Sunnis accused of involvement in Al-Qaeda attacks

“The Saudi government supports terrorist movements and extremists, but confronts domestic critics with oppression and execution… The Saudi government will pay a high price for following these policies,” he said, quoted by the official IRNA news agency.

“The execution of a figure like Sheikh al-Nimr, who had no means to follow his political and religious goals but through speaking out, merely shows the extent of irresponsibility and imprudence.”

  14. Putin names United States among threats in new Russian security strategy

MOSCOW (Reuters) – A new appraisal names the United States as one of the threats to Russia’s national security for the first time, a sign of how relations with the west have deteriorated in recent years.

The document, “About the Strategy of National Security of Russian Federation”, was signed by President Vladimir Putin on New Year’s Eve. It replaces a 2009 version, endorsed by then- President Dmitry Medvedev, the current prime minister, which mentioned neither the United States not NATO.

It says Russia has managed to heighten its role in solving global problems and international conflicts. That heightened role has caused a reaction by the West, it says.

“The strengthening of Russia happens against the background of new threats to the national security, which has complex and interrelated nature,” the document says.

  15. ISIS oil trucks cross into Turkey every day, captured terrorist admits

A captured Islamic State militant who spoke to Sputnik news agency has bolstered claims that Turkey is involved in illegal oil deals with the jihadist group up to the hilt.

24-year-old Mahmud Ghazi Tatar says he joined Islamic State (IS, previously ISIS/ISIL) from the Turkish city of Adiyaman. Together with other recruits, he was transported over the border into Syria where he received terrorist training.

Having taken part in the civil war in Syria, he was captured by Kurdish forces last June and is now imprisoned.

RT obtained interview footage with the captive from Sputnik news agency. In it, the former IS fighter reveals details about Turkey’s alleged oil links to the terror group.

“At the training camp in May 2015, our commander told us that the group sells fuel to Turkey. That income covers Islamic State’s costs. The oil trucks crossing into Turkey every day carry crude oil, as well as petrol,” Tatar said, adding that the Islamic group has “enough oil to last them a long time.”
