4. Belgium detains six people over New Year’s attack plot

Belgian police detained six people during house searches in Brussels on Thursday as part of an investigation into an alleged plot to carry out an attack in the capital on New Year’s Eve.

Authorities on Wednesday called off the traditional New Year’s Eve fireworks display in the capital, citing fears of a militant attack.

Police carried out searches at six locations in the Belgian capital and one just outside the city, seizing computers, mobile phones and equipment for airsoft, a sport involving guns that shoot non-lethal plastic pellets.

A judge was to decide later on Thursday whether the six detained people could be held further.

Two Belgian nationals arrested earlier this week and named as 30-year-old Said S. and 27-year-old Mohammed K., are being held on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack, prosecutors said. A court on Thursday extended their custody for a month.

5. Amazon to donate Pegida song profits to refugee charity

(Businesses should not weigh in on policy decisions in this manner. Immigration policy is a main aspect of government and people have the same right to feeI it must be controlled as those who feel it shouldn’t be. In fact the former has more rights in the same way that those who feel the water supply should not be contaminated have more rights than those who feel it should be. I will certainly look everywhere else before Amazon now on any future purchases)

Amazon has said it will donate to refugees in Germany the profits from online purchases of a track released by the far-right anti-migrant Pegida movement.

The online retailer had been criticised for making money from sales of the instrumental song Gemeinsam sind wir stark – German for “Together we are strong” – which was released over Christmas.

Pegida – Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the Occident – had said profits from the sale would be given to homeless Germans.

But Amazon placed a message on its German site saying profits it made on sales of the song would be donated to help hundreds of thousands of migrants, many fleeing the Syrian civil war, who have arrived in Germany over the last year.

(Sanctimony really is a drug isn’t it?)

6. Russia to supply Egypt with 46 military helicopters: RT

Chief Executive Officer to Russian Helicopters Alexander Mikheyev announced on Wednesday that Russia will supply Egypt with 46 new Ka-52K Alligator Helicopters developed for the French-made Mistral-class amphibious ships, Russia Today reported.

Mikheyev said that Egypt has signed deals to import the Alligator helicopters from Russia. The date of delivery has not yet been announced.

In October, Egypt signed a deal with France to buy two French-made Mistral warships at a joint press conference. France is expected to deliver the warships by the first half of 2016.

7. Afghanistan: Unidentified armed men gun down woman in Sar-e-Pul’s Kohistanat District

(This story is important because it is one example of the real issue with sharia law as opposed to the ‘hudud’ which is what most people who bother to have any awareness of matters islamic tend to be upset about. The manner of the punishment, while grotesque, barbaric and retrograde, is not a threat to civilization directly. But the idea that mob justice always trumps due process and rule of law is. A gang can kill someone for a crime against islam and be celebrated for it. No evidence is needed and no process to determine guilt other than a muslim making the accusation. This is a serious threat to civilization as a whole)

Unidentified gunmen have shot dead a newly married woman in Kohistanat District of northern Sar-e-Pul province.

Akhtar Bibi, 40, had been imprisoned on adultery charges for one year. Upon release from jail, she married a relative and continued ordinary life in her village.

Reports suggest that she was mysteriously killed on Wednesday night.

Governor of Sar-e-Pul province has confirmed the incident. However, he did not provided further details into it.

Meanwhile, head of the Directorate of Women Affairs of Sar-e-Pul province said Akhtar Bibi was gunned down in front of her house.

8. Libs delete article on mosque attack after learning attacker was Muslim

(This really should tell anyone remotely interested a great deal about the political left’s concern about integrity, truth, pursuit of a just society etc. Not being pleased with the facts or the truth of a thing indicates an ethical problem but scrubbing history and denying knowledge of facts that run against a narrative most certainly is one)

Salon deleted an article on its website Wednesday about an arson attack on a Houston mosque, after news broke the alleged attacker was Muslim.

Authorities charged Gary Moore early Wednesday with setting fire to the Islamic Center of Houston on Christmas Day, shortly after Friday prayers. It’s not clear why Moore allegedly targeted the mosque, but authorities say there’s no evidence of a hate crime, according to the Associated Press. Rather, Moore himself is a Muslim who worshiped regularly at the center.

Salon published an article about Moore’s arrest Wednesday morning, along with many other media outlets. Writer Ben Norton prematurely suggested in the piece the attack was Islamophobic.

Norton’s article was apparently taken down later Wednesday, apparently after it became apparent the alleged attacker is Muslim. The link to the Norton’s piece returned a 404 error page as of Wednesday evening.

9. Neighbor of San Bernardino gunman indicted on terrorism charge

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – A former neighbor who prosecutors say supplied assault rifles to the couple who massacred 14 people at a county office building in San Bernardino, California, was indicted on Wednesday on charges of conspiring to provide material support to terrorists.

Enrique Marquez, 24, was charged with conspiring with San Bernardino gunman Syed Rizwan Farook in 2011 and 2012 to support a terrorist attack that was never carried out.

Farook and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, stormed into a holiday party attended by his co-workers at a San Bernardino County social services agency and opened fire on Dec. 2, killing 14 people and wounding 22 others.

Authorities have said that the couple were inspired by Islamic extremism, calling it the deadliest such attack on U.S. soil since Sept. 11, 2001.

Marquez was also accused in the indictment, which was handed down in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, of lying to federal authorities about the purchase of two assault rifles that were used by Farook and his wife in the San Bernardino shooting rampage.

10. China’s armed drones appear built from stolen data from US cyber intrusions

(Richard has posted a series of links about recent Chinese military gains which are concerning. They can be found in today’s daily links post)

China’s vibrant military blogosphere presented a video this month revealing a missile-firing unmanned aerial vehicle in action, dropping bombs against ground targets.

The Caihong-4, or CH-4, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is a testament to the remarkable success of China’s military in copying vital high-technology weapons that currently are considered among the most cutting edge arms systems used in modern combat operations for both ground strikes and intelligence-gathering.

11. Refugees flee ‘haunted’ Swedish migration centre

A group of Syrians have fled in terror from a refugee centre in southern Sweden after a succession of strange, inexplicable happenings left them convinced it was haunted by ghosts.

Thirty five of the 38 refugees housed at a centre in Grännaforsa, a small village in Småland, took refuge in the offices of the Migration Agency in the nearby town of Alvesta on Tuesday, after the incidence of strange activity increased.
“In the last three days it has been getting worse and worse with these ghosts,” Hamid Alojaili from Syria told Sveriges Radio at the centre in Alvesta.
“We are too scared. Last night nobody slept at all, neither the kids nor us.”
Magnus Peterson, head of the Migration Agency in Alvesta, told the local Smålandsposten newspaper that the refugees’ complaint was “surprising”.
“We have had no indications that there would be problems with ghosts before,” he said.

When the U.S. Border Patrol nabbed two Pakistani men with ties to terrorism at the U.S.-Mexico border in September, it marked just the latest instance of illegal immigrants from so-called “special interest countries” using the southern border as a point of entry into the country.

Muhammad Azeem and Mukhtar Ahmad, both in their 20s and from Gujrat, were caught Sept. 20 by agents south of San Diego and just over the international border from Tijuana. When agents checked their identities through databases, they got hits on both of them: Mr. Ahmad popped up as an associate of a known or suspected terrorist, while Mr. Azeem’s information had been shared by a foreign government for intelligence purposes.

Yesterday on site was an interesting discussion about how both socialism and islam tend to be for the peasants and not for the leaders. This is visibly true of course in Socialism especially. This story about a Taliban leader being treated for cancer in Pakistan strikes me as on the same level given that Taliban murders anyone trying to give polio injections to the local children under their jurisdiction.

I am posting this link only because it has the phrase, ‘war against militancy’ which strikes me as useful if you ever meet one of the four Star Trek computers that can’t survive a paradox. Landru, V’ger etc. Just say, “War against militancy” and you should be able to escape slowly enough to stop at the spacateria on the way out

There is a viral video going around of a toddler trying bacon for the first time and seems to be delighted with it, or delighted with the attention he is getting for eating it and being filmed with it. At first blush its hard to know why its viral. Either children are exceptionally rare these days or its something else. Could it be that having your child eat bacon has become an act of defiance? It is anti-lfitst in that ‘we are all vegan’ sense, and most certainly an act of defiance against sharia and islamic imposition of their customs. It may even be seen as defiance against Jewish people although I am unaware of any instance in which Jews have demanded that other people not eat pork. Only that they prefer not to know it is ubiquitous in Chinese food.

Lastly one of the most significant figures in open source code projects, a very successful and wealthy man, died under mysterious circumstances yesterday. This man was a key element in developing software that allowed people to have programs which can be easily and regularly checked to make sure no code existed which would do anything other than it was supposed to do, and which guaranteed your privacy in that no one else could access it without you seeing that code. Here is a link to his last tweets before he died.

  1. The answer to Mark Steyn’s question as to why Cosby finished while Clinton isn’t…

Clinton didn’t speak out against blacks. Also, liberals are racist. Nobody finishes Uncle Billy.

  2. 10 – I have mentioned China’s actions before and keep forgetting that most people don’t have the knowledge I do, one of the things people object to in my analysis’s is that I keep saying China wants control over who sails through the South China Sea. China has been talking about charging passage fees once they have control and they are also reported to be talking about assuming the right to decide not only who sails in the South China Sea but what cargo they can carry and who they can carry it to. This would bring a lot of money into China and limit what people like Nam could import which in turn limits how long they could resist China’s orders.

The first two wars the US fought (the war with the Barbary Pirates and the war of 1812) were fought over freedom of the seas with everyone having the rights to sail anywhere as long as they don’t go into national waters. The only exceptions to the freedom of the seas is when an exclusion zone is set up for live fire tests of military weapons and when a war zone is set up and in the latter neutral ships are not suppose to be attacked. China is developing a strong active military with the capability of projecting force a long way from their national waters and are openly talking about unilaterally changing international law about freedom of the seas. Given the integrated world economy (it has been integrated since the 1500s but most people don’t know enough history to know this.) requires the free passage of materials from one region to another without interference from local governments.

What bothers me about the Cosby case is the way they toss around the terms “drugged”, and “gave her drugs”. I mean, if somebody says to you, “Hey, man. Would you like a couple of ludes and some champagne?”, and you say, “Groovy, man. That sounds far out.”, and then you wash the ludes down with the champagne* – that is not the same thing as slipping crushed-up quaaludes into the bubbly and not saying anything about it. The latter is a serious crime – maybe even murder or attempted murder – while the former is just two druggies doing what druggies do.

They always seem to get very hazy whenever they get near that little detail and haul out the old weasel words, like “drugged”, and “gave her drugs”. I’m not saying I know anything, just that they seem to be purposely obscuring the distinction, and it makes me curious…

    • A lifestyle typical of those who repeat other people’s lines, and believe their superiority.

Like the Muslim to Mohammadan, the entitled that fleece the domesticated, we shall have to learn if he is a big fish in a wide network or simply a loan wolf.

  4. I didn’t realize the “migrants” were so superstitious as to be afraid of ghosts.
People should utilize that for some Phys ops.
    Happy New Year 🙂

    • Islam is an induced paranoia. Walking the perfect line results in saving the Muslim’s Life – and any other way their Death.

Therefore, after all ernesty in prayer and carpet-burning their foreheads, the reason for their failure to perform every Halal requirement has to be someone else’s fault.

Shatan and His Jinns with the Kufar.

Mohammad went on a winged horse to visit Heaven and Hell; he was therefore the world’s first and only real conduit between the dead and the living; and entered Muslim’s hearts.

“According to Islam, the Night Journey took place ten years after Muhammad became a prophet, during the 7th century. Muhammad had been in his home city of Mecca, at his cousin’s home (the house of Ummu Hani’ binti Abu Talib). Afterwards, Prophet Muhammad went to the Masjid al-Haram. While he was resting at the Kaaba, the angel Jibril (Gabriel) appeared to him followed by Buraq. Muhammad mounted Buraq, and in the company of Gabriel, they traveled to the “farthest mosque”. The location of this mosque was not explicitly stated but is generally accepted to mean Al-Aqsa Mosque (Temple Mount) in Jerusalem.[by whom?] At this location, he dismounted from Buraq, prayed, and mounted Buraq, who took him to the various heavens, to meet first the earlier prophets and then God (Allah). ”

I’m reminded of the 1950’s version of War of the Worlds: Nothing seemed powerful enough to halt or destroy the alien invaders until the very last and bleakest moment when out of nowhere the monsters began dropping out of the sky in mid- hostile-action. (The Spielberg version should be denounced as pure evil and all copies rendered unto ashes — call me a book burner and make me smile with perverse delight.)
The Gene Barry one is what I have in mind.
The weakness — as we all remember — was the aliens vulnerability to disease. They began croaking because they had no immunity to earth-borne contagion.
It might not last for very long — this highly useful tool which sends 7th Century aliens into fits of hysterical fear — but while it works, let’s use it to fullest effect.
The Haunting takes on new and important significance.
The West is haunted. Enter at risk of your life.

    • Spielberg did screw up a good story, lovers of good SF should have protested at every theater.
