  1. Islamic State threatens to attack Saudi Arabia for forming anti-terror coalition (tribune, Dec 20, 2015)
    http://tribune.com.pk/story/1013154/islamic-state-threatens-to-attack-saudi-arabia-for-forming-anti-terror-coalition/

“DOHA: Islamic State threatened to attack Saudi Arabia for “colluding with crusaders” after the oil-rich kingdom said it had established a 34-state Islamic military coalition to target the militants.

In a weekly publication documenting its military activities, the militant group described as “morons and fools” the 34 members of the coalition which Saudi Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has said will be headquartered in Riyadh to coordinate mutual anti-terrorism assistance across the Islamic world.

“With permission from Allah, this alliance will be the beginning of the collapse of the governments of the oppressive tyrants in the lands of Islam,” said an article entitled “Mohammed bin Salman’s alliance of surprised allies”.

Confusion over the coalition’s role, even among its own members, has cast doubt on an initiative widely seen as an effort by Saudi Arabia to solidify its claim to leadership of the Sunni world against Shia Iran.

Another article criticised the participation of several Syrian rebel groups in a recent meeting in Riyadh which it said proved they were “disbelievers”.

Saudi Arabia has been hit by a spate of deadly shootings and bomb attacks this year, many of them laid at the door of Islamic State.

The group is bitterly opposed to Gulf Arab rulers and is seen as trying to stir up sectarian confrontation on the Arabian peninsula to bring about the overthrow of the ruling dynasties.

It has urged young Saudi Sunnis to attack targets including Shias.”

  2. The ‘neo-Palestinians’
The Israeli security establishment is seeking to define, characterize and restrain the young Palestinians leading the current terror wave. The new Palestinian defies authority and is not subject to any kind of higher hierarchy. He was around 3 or 5 years old during the second intifada (2000-2005) and doesn’t really remember those years when more than 1,000 Israelis and 3,000 Palestinians were killed.
The new Palestinian goes to college. At least 30,000 Palestinians earn undergraduate degrees every year in the West Bank and another 20,000 in Gaza. But there is nothing they can do with their degrees. There are no decent positions, no high-tech jobs and no serious economic infrastructure. The new Palestinian has no tangible hope of accomplishing the things that he sees others achieving on social networks.
The new Palestinian is convinced that he is in the right, blind to the positions of others, and follows the international community’s stance on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and draws encouragement from it. He is completely open to the various conspiracy theories about Israel that spread through the Arab street.
According to Israeli security experts, Israel is now “paying” for things that it is not even guilty of. The economies of the Arab states in general have long been weak, and the Palestinian economy in particular cannot give its youths any real hope of improvement.
The new Palestinian is unaware that compared to the other Arabs in the Middle East today, his situation is better than theirs. The only Arab region in which electricity is available 24/7 is in the West Bank. The same is true regarding infant mortality and the standard of medical care.

  3. Canada’s Growing Jihadi Cancer

The attention focused last week on the Ontario branch of al-Huda, the same religious school the San Bernardino killer Tashfeen Malik attended in Pakistan, is just one example of increasing Saudi-funded Islamic fundamentalism all over Canada. Radical mosques with reported ties to terrorist organizations have flourished in and around Toronto as well as in Montreal.
The Mississauga, Ontario, branch of the al-Huda school closed for at least one day last week after CBC reported that four girls who studied there left Canada to join the Islamic State. “Farhat Hashmi runs al-Huda and denies that jihad is being taught there,” said Dr. Farzana Hassan of the moderate Canadian Muslim Congress. “She’s not telling the truth. I’ve listened to her podcasts in the Urdu language. She praises jihad and says women should participate.”
Prime Minister Trudeau’s key aide helping him nail the Canadian Muslim vote was Omar Alghabra, 46, a Saudi-born Syrian immigrant. Alghabra was once president of the Canadian Arab Foundation, which lost government funding in 2009 because of its support for groups like Hizbullah and Hamas, which are officially listed as terrorist groups in Canada. Trudeau just named Alghabra as his Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs (Consular). Alghabra once denounced Toronto’s police chief for taking part in a charity walk for Israel.

Israeli Robots Take Fight to Terrorists

When the Pentagon recently selected a company to supply a portable, stair-climbing robot that can sniff out booby traps, the Israeli firm Roboteam Ltd. got the $25 million contract, its second order for the U.S. military in two years.
Founded in 2009 by a pair of Israeli special-forces officers, Roboteam is benefiting from accelerating demand for inexpensive military robots that can be deployed by SWAT teams to foil terrorists in major cities as well as protect U.S. soldiers from improvised explosive devices in Afghanistan and other combat zones.
Roboteam has managed to undercut rivals with lighter robots that sell for about half the industry average.
Its smallest robot, IRIS, weighs 3.6 pounds and can be lobbed into a building, providing a video stream to troops or police officers outside. The largest, PROBOT, carries 1,650 pounds of equipment.
During the 2014 Gaza war with Hamas, Roboteam machines helped IDF ground forces fight Palestinian militants firing rockets and infiltrating Israel through tunnels. The robots were also used to detect Hamas booby traps.

    • The robot revolution continues, now if they could make a robot maid that is cheap enough for me to buy and reliable enough that it would break anything or hurt the cat.

        • So am I but like I said one that will do the cleaning and washing not break things and doesn’t hurt the cat that is cheap enough to buy would be nice. maybe in a couple of decades.

  5. Saudi satellite operator drops Hezbollah channel from airwaves

Last week, Saudi-owned Arabsat dropped Hizbullah’s Al-Manar television channel from its broadcasts. In 2005, Al-Manar was being broadcast by more than a dozen satellite operators around the globe, but 11 satellite operators have since ceased the channel’s broadcasts due to its incitement to violence. Last month, Arabsat also suspended Al Mayadeen TV, which is also regarded as a Hizbullah mouthpiece.
Today, Al-Manar is broadcast by only three satellite operators: Egypt’s Nilesat, Russia’s Express, and Indonesia’s Indosat.

The Future of European Civilization: Lessons for America

America has much to learn from Europe’s current condition. In Europe, the decline in religious faith has led to a universal weakening of society and a loss of confidence in the value of its civilization. And the effects of this have been grave: throngs of unassimilated immigrants, unchecked military threats from abroad, and confusion about national identity threaten Europe’s future. America, by contrast, still shows many signs of strength. Nonetheless, should we lose our sense of shared identity, Europe’s path likely awaits.

    KEY POINTS
    1. The threats confronting Europe also confront America: mass immigration of people whose loyalty cannot be guaranteed, the purging of religious assumptions from the public square, and the state’s growth which squeezes out civil society.

    2. Europe is also threatened by the rise of confused human rights doctrines which often contradict common sense, the law, and national security interests.

    3. Americans have something Europeans lack: a sense of shared identity.

    4. This sense of identity depends on borders, laws defined by territory, and preserving the idea of the nation.

  7. These are caveats of “interfaith” between Jews and Christians. Don’t bother even to think of throwing Mohammedans in the mix.
    Vatican II at 50
Assessing the impact of ‘Nostra Aetate’ on Jewish-Christian relations

Jews active in interfaith affairs have not infrequently denounced the Christian belief that the entire world will recognize Jesus as the divine messiah at the end of days. This, in my view, is none of our business, especially in light of the corresponding Jewish belief strikingly expressed in the High Holy Day liturgy and the Aleinu prayer. Many Jews welcome the views of Christian scholars and theologians who maintain that certain anti-Jewish narratives in the Gospels are unhistorical, but we have no right to urge more fundamentalist Christians to reject the accuracy of their scriptures. . . .

The most interesting phenomenon that challenges the convictions of a non-interventionist is Christian missionizing, which brings us back to the covenant. Catholic theologians friendly to the Jews have struggled with the implications of [Nostra Aetate’s doctrine of] the unbroken Abrahamic/Mosaic covenant. This unbroken covenant sits uneasily with the doctrine of the contemporary Church that although those who consciously reject belief in Jesus can under certain circumstances be saved, the vehicle of salvation—even for Jews—is Jesus acting through the Church. In some sense, we are told, there is an implicit belief at work. Moreover, despite the enduring Jewish covenant, Christians are obligated to “witness” to the Jews even though they should not directly proselytize.

It should not be our concern to help resolve these conundrums in Catholic theology, and I am all the more grateful that leading theologians firmly oppose mission to the Jews even though their rationale for this position leaves them with unresolved “mysteries.” However, in relating to Christian groups that do proselytize, it is, I think, legitimate for Jews to make every effort to persuade them to desist despite the fact that this constitutes interference in their internal theology. In this case, the imperative of self-defense is so direct that it overrides countervailing principles.

Potentially Devastating Terror Attack Foiled on Gaza Border
JNS.org – Israel on Friday uncovered a number of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along its border with Gaza, foiling a possible devastating terror attack.

Israel Defense Forces engineers uncovered the unexploded IEDs, with some devices connected to remote-controlled timers set to be activated by a cell phone, Yedioth Ahronoth reported. Earlier this week, a similar IED detonated near IDF troops.

The IDF and Shin Bet security forces are conducting an investigation into the uncovered IEDs and believe that terrorists had planned a large-scale attack against Israeli soldiers along the Gaza border.

Police fired tear gas and water cannon at protesters near Istanbul’s Taskim Square, Sunday, after hundreds of people took to the streets to denounce the Turkish state’s security operations and imposed curfews in cities in the southeast of the country such as Silopi, Cizre and Diyarbakir.

What strikes me is how much the left and the moslems must fear Trump, if they weren’t afraid he has a good chance of winning the election and turning the war around they wouldn’t be attacking him so hard. If you want to know who would be a good President just look for the people the left set out to destroy.

    End of the West?
Syria, the Islamic State, & Europe.

Should the United States militarily defeat jihadist outfits in the Middle East? After 9/11 the answer seemed easy, but after the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, Barack Obama is not alone in arguing that large-scale offensive campaigns against radical Muslim movements aren’t worth the cost. Even if the president’s go-slow approach is actually more likely to provoke more terrorism, is it the sensible policy for America? And can Western governments actually defeat the Muslim radicals who live in the West and are a nightmare for domestic intelligence services to find, let alone stop? These questions are as much about Europe as the Middle East.with in the war against terrorism.

    • That man is really depressing, he seems to be saying there is no hope so we should just give up, so far no place has been lost but we have to fight. Unless we are willing to fight for our freedom the light of civilization, science and reason will go out for many centuries. How can anyone who is suppose to be working for the defense of democracy write something so openly advocating surrender?

        • Lawrence Auster’s *separationism* is the only remedy, imo.

  13. Iraq concerned over Turkish troops in Shaqlawa region, not Mosul

Iraq is more concerned by the deployment of 650 Turkish troops to the Shaqlawa region in northern Iraq than by the 150 Turkish soldiers in Mosul’s Bashiqa region, details of meetings between Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) President Massoud Barzani and Turkish officials on Dec. 9 have revealed.

Barzani met with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Undersecretary Hakan Fidan, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Feridun Sinirlioglu and opposition party leaders, including the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Ankara from Dec. 9 to 11.

Sunday’s Zaman has learned from sources in Turkey and the KRG that Barzani is not fully convinced of the need for the 800 Turkish troops in Mosul and Shaqlawa in northern Iraq that recently sparked a crisis between Ankara and Baghdad.

According to sources, Turkey increased the number of its troops in Mosul from 80 to 150 on Dec. 3 and deployed 650 more troops to a deserted airport near the town of Harir in the Shaqlawa region that has strategic importance as it is along the route to the Kandil Mountains where the headquarters of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) are located.

Sources told Sunday’s Zaman that Barzani expressed his and Bagdad’s concerns to the Turkish authorities about the troops in Shaqlawa during his meetings in Ankara.

Iraq said in early December hundreds of Turkish troops had arrived in its territory without its knowledge or approval, calling it a violation of its sovereignty.

Turkey sought to ease the concerns of the central Iraqi government after it threatened to take action at the UN unless the Turkish troops were withdrawn immediately. On Dec. 6 the Iraqi government issued a 48-hour ultimatum and demanded an immediate pullout of Turkish forces, saying the deployment took place without the knowledge and consent of Baghdad.

Along with 150 troops, Turkey also deployed about 25 tanks to a camp in the Bashiqa region near Mosul on Dec. 3, calling it a routine rotation to train Iraqis to retake Mosul from the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), which captured Iraq’s second-largest city in 2014.

Before his visit to Ankara, Barzani also downplayed the nature of Turkey’s dispatch of a contingent of forces backed by armored vehicles, tanks and artillery to northern Iraq. The Kurdish leader said the issue was between the central government in Baghdad and Ankara, but did not show any reaction or unwelcoming sign against the presence of Turkish forces.

During a press conference along with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Arbil on Dec. 8, Barzani told reporters Ankara and Baghdad have an existing agreement over troop deployment to train armed forces there as part of the mission to recapture Mosul from ISIL.

Rivalries between Baghdad and Ankara over Turkish troops entering Iraq should be resolved at the negotiating table because “there is a misunderstanding between both countries, and we will work to ease the situation,” Barzani was quoted as saying by the Arbil-based Rudaw.

‘Some Turkish ISIL members identify themselves as MIT staff’

During the meetings between Turkish officials and Barzani in Ankara, Barzani spoke on the 150 ISIL militants of Turkish origin who had been captured by Kurdish peshmerga forces during clashes with ISIL.</strong According to sources, Barzani said some ISIL members captured by the peshmerga had identified themselves as` members of MIT and he requested that MIT head Fidan clarify the issue.

Barzani also sought assistance from Ankara to remove 500 Turkish nationals in Mosul who are in leading positions in ISIL.

The sources also told Sunday’s Zaman that Turkey demanded Barzani’s help to capture some of PKK leaders, while Barzani in return demanded to be part of the operation in Mosul to remove ISIL. He also gave assurances that they would protect the rights of Turkmens in Kirkuk in a referendum and requested that Turkey not interfere in this internal matter.

In order to come to an understanding on the issues, Barzani also demanded financial assistance which Turkey agreed to; however, the amount and source of the funds were not mentioned, the sources said.

Prime Minister Davutoglu during his meeting with Barzani in Ankara expressed commitment to the Kurdish cause against ISIL and vowed to lend the KRG any available support in the fight against the radical group.

“Our presence in Iraq is to ensure the stability of the region. To avoid being a neighbor with Daesh [the Arabic acronym for ISIL], Arbil needs to be stronger. We will continue to support the fight against terrorism in Iraq,” Davutoglu said.

According to the Council on Foreign Relations, “Sharia guides all aspects of Muslim life, including daily routines, familial and religious obligations, and financial dealings. 15. ISIS Sets Its Sights on the East

The Islamic State (ISIS) is apparently planning to subjugate and conquer the ancient civilizations of the East as part of its worldwide jihad.

The Islamic State’s newly-released manifesto contains, among the ideological positions and strategic objectives of the self-proclaimed Islamic Caliphate, direct threats to Hindus and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The 130-page English-language manifesto, entitled “Black Flags from the Islamic State (2016),” was uploaded in early December on various online forums sympathetic to the Islamic State. Previously, in July 2015, ISIS had circulated another document declaring its ambitions of expanding its Jihad into India.

This month’s ISIS manifesto claims India as part of Islamic Caliphate and, referring to the recent resurgence of Hindus in the country, states: “a movement of Hindus is growing who kill Muslims who eat beef.”

Hindu groups have lately been campaigning for a national ban on the slaughter cows, in keeping with the religious sentiments attached to the animal, which most Hindus consider sacred.

The social and political movement of reviving Hinduism in India was also strengthened by the historic election, 18 months ago, of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his nationalist BJP party.

The ISIS manifesto mentions India’s Prime Minister Modi as a “right-wing Hindu nationalist who worships weapons and is preparing his people for a future war against Muslims.”

  17. ISIS Selling Yazidi Women and Children in Turkey

This month, the German television station, ARD (Consortium of Public Broadcasters in Germany), produced footage documenting the slave trade being conducted by the Islamic State (ISIS) through a liaison office in the province of Gaziantep (also known as Antep) in Turkey, near the border with Syria.

In August 2014, Islamic State jihadists attacked Sinjar, home to over 400,000 Yazidis. The United Nations confirmed that 5,000 men were executed, and as many as 7,000 women and girls made sex slaves.

While some have escaped or been ransomed back, thousands of Yazidis remain missing.

A news report from German broadcaster ARD shows photos of Yazidi slaves distributed by ISIS (left), as well as undercover footage of ISIS operatives in Turkey taking payment for buying the slaves (right).

Last month, after Kurdish forces recaptured the area from ISIS jihadists, mass graves, believed to contain the remains of Yazidi women, were discovered east of Sinjar.

The German TV channels NDR and SWR declared on their website:

“IS [Islamic State] offers women and underage children in a kind of virtual slave market with for-sale photos. … The transfer of money, as the reporter discovered, takes place through a liaison office in Turkey. …

“For weeks, NDR and SWR accompanied a Yazidi negotiator, who, on behalf of the families, negotiates with the IS for the release of the slaves and their children. … the women are sold in a digital slave market to the highest bidder. 15,000 to 20,000 US dollars are a typical price. Similar sums for ransom are also required to free Yazidis. The money is then transferred via IS-liaison offices and middlemen to the terrorist group.

“NDR and SWR were present at the liberation of a woman and her three small children, aged between two and four years old, and followed the negotiations. How many Yazidi slaves are still ‘owned’ by IS is unclear. Experts estimate that there still could be hundreds.”

The negotiator told NDR and SWR that in the course of a year, he transferred more than USD $2.5 million to ISIS from the families of 250 Yazidi women and children, in order to free them.

He also said that to advertise the slaves, ISIS assigns numbers to the female and child slaves, and posts their photographs on the WhatsApp Messenger smartphone app.

  18. Why Now? FBI Decides Terror Motivated Chattanooga Shooter
The FBI’s belated announcement of something so obvious took months. Find out the politics behind the gov’t’s terror strategy.

    http://www.clarionproject.org/analysis/why-now-fbi-decides-terror-motivated-chattanooga-shooter#

The FBI announced foreign terrorists “inspired and motivated” the shooter behind the attack at a reserve center in Chattanooga, Tennessee last summer. The designation is significant because allows victims of the shooting to receive the Purple Heart, along with all the benefits and compensations that go with the medal.

In the Chattanooga attack, Mohammed Yousef Abdulaziz killed four U.S. marines and a naval petty officer. FBI investigators just announced Abdulaziz was inspired by Anwar al-Awlaki, a U.S.-born cleric who was a senior operative for Al-Qaeda.

At the time of the shooting, in statements to the media, the FBI pointedly stated Abdulaziz was a “homegrown violent extremist” who acted on his own. The message was not a holding pattern – words chosen by the FBI until more facts were in about the case. Rather, it was part of a national strategy instituted by the U.S. government, explained by the head of U.S. Homeland Security, Jeh Johnson.

Speaking at the Aspen Institute’s annual security forum just days after the attack, Johnson said it was “critical” to call such Islamic terror attacks “violent extremism” to “build trust” and “cooperation” with the Muslim community.

Although the news of the FBI’s determination was welcomed by the victims’ families, some relatives questioned why it took so long to make the assessment. Information available at the time of the shooting indicated the attack was a result of Abdulaziz’s Islamist ideology.

  19. US to Sanction Foreign Banks That Work With Hezbollah
The U.S. Congress passed the Hizballah International Financing Prevention Act of 2015 allowing sanctions on Hezbollah-linked banks.

The United States Congress passed a bill to restrict the funding of Hezbollah by foreign financial institutions operating in the U.S.

This bill goes further than the sanctions imposed by Hezbollah’s designation as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, which criminalizes “providing material support or resources” to a designated organization.

This bill targets foreign banks that carry out transactions with Hezbollah and imposes U.S.-government sanctions on those institutions. It also targets media outlets that worked with Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV and begins a process of targeting Hezbollah’s drug-smuggling and human-trafficking networks.

The Hizballah [sic] Financial International Financing Prevention Act is awaiting the presidential signature. It had bipartisan support and was put forward by Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Marco Rubio (R-FL). It was sponsored by House Foreign Affairs Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA).

The French government declared a national state of emergency after the attacks which killed 130 people, granting police major powers to put people under house arrest and carry out raids without a warrant from a judge. The powers are set to expire on February 26.

Attorney Xavier Nogueras is representing 12 Muslim clients who were placed under house arrest. He alleges the state unfairly targeted his clients based on unproven suspicions.

At least 20 complaints against the government were filed by six independent lawyers, according to Al-Jazeera America.

In November, an administrative court ruled the government committed no “obvious legal breach” in making the arrests.

The Sunday Express reported France reversed a number of the house arrest decisions.

These cases highlight the complexities of combatting terrorism while upholding civil liberties and human rights. The details of these cases are not public, nor are the intelligence sources used to place these individuals under house arrest.

  21. USA – Penns Valley Area class project on Islam raises concerns from parents

Some Penns Valley Area parents said they’re “outraged” about a class project their children were assigned earlier this week.

But district administration said it falls within class curriculum and state requirements.

Seventh-grade students in teacher Mike Durn’s history class was asked to do a video project about Muhammad and the Islamic religion.

Durn requested that students design “a video in which you will show, visually, the life of Muhammad, the development of Islam and its beliefs.”

The project would include a brief biography of Muhammad, the explanation of the five pillars of Islam and how Islam is connected to Judaism and Christianity.

Durn declined to comment, but district administration contacted the CDT.

Assistant Superintendent Sherri Connell said Durn’s ancient civilization class has board-approved curriculum that covers the Pennsylvania-approved history and government standards through the 1500s.

  22. More than 100,000 students unable to attend school due to conflict in Southeast
    http://www.todayszaman.com/national_more-than-100000-students-unable-to-attend-school-due-to-conflict-in-southeast_407507.html

“Around 114,000 students have been denied the right to schooling in Turkey’s conflict-ridden Southeast, as many districts in large provinces such as Diyarbak?r are still subject to long curfews, sometimes reaching weeks in duration.

As the conflict between the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and Turkish security forces spills into urban areas, sometimes taking the form of street skirmishes, tens of thousands of children are being denied the opportunity to go to school and receive an education.

Currently 10,000 children in Diyarbak?r’s Sur district, 10,000 in Mardin’s Nusaybin district and 6,300 in Mardin’s Dargeçit district, as well as 45,000 and 43,000 children in ??rnak’s Cizre and Silopi districts, respectively, are unable to attend school due to the clashes. Adding in the number of students studying for university entrance exams, the total number affected by the fighting has reached epic proportions.

Some schools have been closed and others have been burned down. A portion of the schools are used by the PKK as bases, while the Turkish army also makes use of empty schools….”

  23. Anti-PKK ops continue unabated in Southeast as over 100 terrorists killed (todayszaman, Dec 20, 2015)
    http://www.todayszaman.com/national_anti-pkk-ops-continue-unabated-in-southeast-as-over-100-terrorists-killed_407506.html

“A large-scale security offensive that the Turkish police and military jointly launched in tense southeastern districts, such as Cizre and Silopi, on Monday against the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) continues unabated, with more than 100 terrorists and two soldiers killed on Saturday and Sunday.

Gunfire and clashes persisted overnight in the southeastern ??rnak province’s Cizre district, the heart of the security offensive.

Most of the fighting took place in Cizre and Silopi, ??rnak’s two districts near the Iraqi and Syrian borders that have been under curfew for almost a week. The Nusaybin and Dargeçit districts in the border province of Mardin and the historic Sur district of Diyarbak?r, the region’s biggest city, have also seen fierce battles.

The latest security operations, which media reports said were being conducted with 10,000 police and troops backed by tanks, were the largest since a ceasefire between the PKK and the security forces ended late in July.

Tanks deployed on hills surrounding Cizre shelled PKK targets inside the city while a military convoy of 30 armored vehicles stormed one of the districts.

Around 300 houses have been damaged by the clashes, and undetonated mortar shells lie inside buildings in Cizre, security sources and witnesses said. Media reports say smoke rose from the 23 Nisan Primary School in the Ba?ak neighborhood in Cizre early on Sunday. The tension is escalating day by day in the district.

One Turkish soldier hurt in clashes in Cizre on Saturday died of his wounds on Sunday, said security sources, and a total of 80 terrorists have been killed so far in the Cizre operations. A postman working for the state mail company also died after PKK militants attacked his vehicle on the highway to ??rnak, sources said…”

  24. ISIS spreads to Indonesia: Six men with ‘jihadi manuals’ & bomb-making materials arrested (expess, Dec 20, 2015)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/628253/ISIS-spreads-Indonesia-six-men-jihadi-manuals-bomb-making-materials-arrested

“Police seized bomb-making materials and ‘jihad manuals’ from the men they said included Islamic State members and supporters, the Jakarta Globe reported.

“Six individuals rounded up in a series of counter-terrorism raids that began on Friday and ran into late Saturday reportedly planned to bomb Shiite communities in Java and Sumatra,” the daily said on its website.

It cited National Police Chief General Badrodin Haiti as saying that raids to round-up the suspects were prompted by intelligence from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Australian Federal Police.

“This terrorist network was preparing for bombing attacks in various locations in Indonesia,” Badrodin said, referring to one of the acronyms of the Sunni militant group Islamic State. “Some are ISIS members and others are sympathisers.”

Badrodin said the counter-terrorism operation was still ongoing. “That’s why we’re calling on the public to be vigilant and report anything suspicious,” he said…”

  25. Tony Blair-Run Think-Tank: 65,000 Jihadists in Syria Ready to Replace ISIL If It’s Defeated (farsnews, Dec 20, 2015)
    http://en.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13940929001420

“The West is making a strategic mistake by focusing its anti-terrorist effort on ISIL and overlooking other groups, an upcoming report said. Sixty percent of fighters in the country can be classified as extremists and have goals similar to Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
Those fighters belong to at least 15 other militant groups, which are mostly being ignored by the West, British media cited the Centre on Religion & Geopolitics, a think-tank run by the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, as saying, RT reported.

Fewer than one quarter of the groups surveyed by the center had no ideological agenda, but many of them were willing to fight alongside the Islamists and accept their leadership in a post-war Syria.

“The West risks making a strategic failure by focusing only on ISIL. Defeating it militarily will not end global jihadism. We cannot bomb an ideology, but our war is ideological,” said the report, due to be published Monday, as cited by the Guardian.

The report comes days after the UN Security Council passed a roadmap to a political transition in Syria. The resolution adopted on Friday lists only two militant groups in Syria, ISIL and the Al Nusra Front, an al-Qaeda branch, as banned from negotiating the future of the country under UN aegis.

The report warned that if ISIL is defeated, it may give impetus for terrorist attacks outside of Syria under a rallying cry that “the West destroyed the caliphate.”

It says that if the government of President Bashar Assad stepped down, as many foreign players and rebel groups have been demanding for years, it would likely fuel the war in Syria rather than quench it.

The conclusions of the report are not unlike those voiced by Russia. Moscow has been repeatedly calling on the opponents of Damascus to provide a clear list of militant groups that they consider “moderate” and rejected the calls for Assad’s departure before peace can be restored in Syria.”

    • The mistake is focusing on the so called extremist rather then Islam itself, we have to start facing the fact that the extremists are the true followers of Islam and the so called moderates (that for the most part do nothing to help us) are the extremists. This fact us to be common knowledge before the left corrupted the educational system.

  27. SoCal terror probe exposes marriage-for-visa racket

The ever-widening investigation of the San Bernardino terrorist massacre has revealed at least two dubious marriages that experts say expose huge loopholes in the immigration system and continue to put national security at risk.

Federal authorities have charged Enrique Marquez with marriage fraud for his allegedly sham union with Mariya Chernykh, a Russian woman whose sister married the brother of terrorist Syed Rizwan Farook after first gaining residence through an earlier marriage. And of course, Farook’s own wife, Tashfeen Malik, who was killed along with him in a shootout with police following their Dec. 2 attack, married her way into the U.S. under suspicious circumstances.

“This one family offers a study into how easy it is to get into this country through marriage,” said Jessica Vaughan, of the Center for Immigration Policy. “If anyone can take advantage of it, then terrorists can certainly take advantage of it. It is a major security vulnerability.”[…]

  29. Taliban: Jihad waged for development of country, Afghans should not flee to Europe (khaama, Dec 20, 2015)
    http://www.khaama.com/taliban-jihad-waged-for-development-of-country-afghans-should-not-flee-to-europe-1835

“With dramatic surge in the number of Afghans leaving the country with majority heading towards European countries amid growing violence, the Taliban militants group in Afghanistan has issued an unusual statement urging the Afghans to remain the in the country, insisting that they wage jihad for the development of the country.

The statement by the Taliban group was released on Sunday and days after reports emerged that some of the Afghan migrants are purchasing threat letters forged by certain individuals who are charging considerable amounts in the black market to issue the letters in a bid to help the migrants easily go through the asylum process.

“While the Islamic Emirate sees the corrupt Kabul regime as the main driver behind the mass migration of our countrymen, it calls on all its countrymen fleeing the lap of their motherland towards the uncertainties of drowning in dark seas and being killed or held prisoners in foreign lands to choose the path of patience and perseverance by enduring the little hardships inside their country instead of illegal migration and defaming the Islamic Emirate by presenting fake threat letters,” the statement reads.

Despite the group is blamed for majority of casualties incurred to the civilians, however, Taliban said “The Islamic Emirate is waging Jihad so that the country is developed and our countrymen provided with a prosperous secure life under the shade of an Islamic system. Hence no one should be fooled by the propaganda against the Taliban and Mujahideen. The Islamic Emirate has done and will continue to do everything possible to aid and provide serenity to our countrymen.”

There has been a steep rise in the number of Afghan asylum seekers heading towards Europe during the recent months amid deteriorating security and economic situation in Afghanistan.

According to reports, over 146,000 Afghans have reportedly left the country during the current year, mainly due to deteriorating security situation with majority of them departing towards European countries, particularly Germany.

The migrants are facing numerous miseries by illegally travelling through the risky route which is mainly through Iran and Turkey where numerous incidents resulting to casualties have been reported.

  30. Report: CBS News Cut Muslim Americans’ Criticism of U.S. From Focus Group Segment

A CBS News segment Friday featured a focus group of American Muslims being questioned by pollster Frank Luntz. The segment ran about seven minutes, and a few minutes more were uploaded to CBSNews.com. However, according to The Intercept, all of the most critical Muslim voices were edited out entirely.

Luntz’s questions revolved around the conservative preoccupation with the Muslim American community taking “responsibility” for the actions of militants to claim to share their faith. (Actually, religious fundamentalists are often as likely to condemn reformers of the same belief system as vice versa.)

Two of the participants in the focus group said that concerns they raised about American militarism, surveillance, and entrapment of Muslims were edited out of the footage. New York City activist Amelia Noor-Oshiro told The Intercept she asked Luntz, “Why don’t you ask that to people who actually commit acts of terror? Why don’t you ask that to White America who are responsible for a majority of domestic terror attacks?”

At one point, Luntz asked the group whether they were Americans first or Muslims first. In a Facebook post, journalist Sarah Harvard, who participated in the group, said that she responded in kind, to demonstrate how offensive the question is, asking: “Well, are you an American or Jewish first?” That was also cut.

    From The Intercept:

Harvard said Luntz clearly had an agenda. “He just wanted to create this narrative of how Muslim Americans are condemning terrorism.” That is true, of course, but it’s not the whole story.

“He’s trying to put us in a positive light but in a way that makes us feel like second-class citizens,” she said — only giving American Muslims voice to react to terrorism, not to express their own policy views.

Noor-Oshiro said that prior to being picked for the group, she was asked to fill out a survey that included one question about “approximately what percentage of the Muslim population would you think could be radicalized or are already radicalized? … It literally said, ‘Write down a percentage!’” Noor-Oshiro also said Luntz baited her by asking her what “percent of white people” are racist. When she refrained from answering the question, he told her, “This is your chance!”

“I think a lot of people were very appreciative of the fact we even got a voice,” she said. “But I don’t think they understood this voice came with conditions.”

Here is Harvard’s Facebook post in its entirety:

I’m not going to link you all to the CBS focus group I participated in, because I was disappointed to have been involved in such a disingenuous and embarrassing segment.

The segment filming took about an hour, but of course, they had to condense it to 4 minutes on air. We were later told they were going to provide a full recording or an extended interview online — which essentially was just the same thing over again. That’s what really irked me.

Frank Luntz, the moderator, asked us the most demeaning questions like “Are you an American or a Muslim first?” To which I found insulting and shouted back, “Well, are you an American or Jewish first?”

He also had silenced me and other participants who have routinely brought up the fact the government has enacted in state violence against the Muslim community — whether that may be through entrapment cases and surveillance programs — and our concerns about institutional racism. He shut me down when I said that President Obama and Hillary Clinton has killed many Muslims under the administration when we were discussing Trump, and ironically for a GOP strategist, he shut me down when I talked about how Democrats have enacted some of the most deadliest and discriminatory policies against Muslims. He also decided to stop letting me speak when I started talking about how Muslims should start focusing on combatting government policies rather than rushing to condemn terrorism or Islamophobia exclusively. They also cut out portions of where participants talked about media accountability when discussing Islam.

I felt that as a Muslim-American participant in the focus group, he tried to put all of us into boxes to fit their narrative. That’s something I wasn’t going to allow to happen. It could also be a reason why the only three Muslim women who didn’t wear the headscarf was seated outside of the camera shot or why the two black men in the panel barely got speaking time.

The edited version of the focus group interview was mainly about proving our American identity, condemning terrorism, and Trump’s bashing of Muslim-Americans. This is problematic.

He kept saying how he felt bad that no one listens to Muslims and how he wanted to give us an opportunity to talk to the general population. But how can that happen when we’re manipulatively edited to have us fit their own narrative and agenda?

I’m sick and tired of Muslim-Americans being perceived as those who are victimized or as the oppressor. I’m not here to beg people to love me or love Muslims. I love myself. I’m proud to be a Muslim. I want that love to spread throughout the entire country and I want Muslim-Americans to become more vocal about condemning the government who has made this country far less safe, free and prosperous for all of us.

I know a lot of people are not gonna like what I say, and will probably disagree with me, but I never had let that stop me from saying what I think is the truth — and I won’t stop now.

  31. Defeating Islamic State will not end jihadist threat in Syria, report warns

Study backed by Tony Blair Faith Foundation says that some 65,000 fighters in Syria who do not support Isil still have jihadist leanings

Around 65,000 fighters with jihadist sympathies belong to rebel militias in Syria other than Islamic State, a new report claims, adding to concerns that defeating the group will do little to bring peace to the country.

The study by the Centre on Religion and Geopolitics said fighters with extremist views were to be found across Syria’s rebel groups.

Up to 60 per cent of all rebels belonged to groups with an Islamist agenda, with more than half of those adhering to Salafi-jihadism, the hardline ideology underpinning Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil).

Some 15 groups besides Isil have jihadist views even if they are currently dedicated to the local fight against the Assad regime, the report said. They include al-Qaeda’s local branch, Jabhat al-Nusra, the Saudi-backed Jaish al-Islam and one of the most powerful fighting forces, Ahrar al-Sham.

The Centre on Religion and Geopolitics is an arm of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation. Its senior adviser is Ed Husain, a London-born former Islamist who later set up a think-tank, Quilliam, to promote counter-radicalisation.

“ISIS represents a continuation of a way of thinking that started before it existed and will carry on if it is defeated,” the study says. “The West risks making a strategic failure by focusing only on ISIS.

“Defeating it militarily will not end global jihadism. We cannot bomb an ideology, but our war is ideological.”

A United Nations resolution on Friday backed peace talks between the main rebel groups – excluding Isil and Jabhat al-Nusra, but including Ahrar al-Sham – and the Assad regime.

It dropped demands for President Bashar al-Assad to quit, and implicitly backed further military action against both Isil and Jabhat al-Nusra, without commenting on what that meant for other rebel groups.

The report suggests this is a strategic error. “If only ISIS is defeated, there is a high risk that dispersed ISIS fighters and other Salafi-jihadi groups will expand their horizons and launch attacks outside of Syria,” it says.

“‘The West destroyed the caliphate’ will be a new rallying cry. In a dangerous escalation, these groups could aim to compete for the spotlight – to ensure allegiance from the global fighters and financing that ISIS currently attracts.”

When the first openly-armed rebel groups formed in the summer of 2011 and called themselves the Free Syrian Army, many fighters were defectors from the Assad regime army and their outlook was avowedly secular.

However, at the same time, international support groups adhering both to the Muslim Brotherhood and more radical ideologies raised funds to supply fighters who formed their own religion-based brigades, boosted by Islamist prisoners released from the regime’s jails.

These more militant groups gradually came to dominate the rebel movement, partly because they had a reputation for being less corrupt, partly because with better funding they were able to purchase better weaponry.

Previously non-ideological but largely Sunni Muslim rebels were often indoctrinated as they joined these groups.

The study says that the West’s focus on defeating Isil adds to the group’s appeal – ninety per cent of rebels see removing the regime as a priority, compared to only 38 per cent who see defeating Isil as important.

It finds the numbers overall who support democracy as a system of government for Syria is greater than the number supporting an Islamic state. On the other hand, it says that the 70,000 “moderate rebels” quoted by David Cameron, the Prime Minister, probably includes about 19,000 fighters with Salafi-jihadi views.

“Unless Assad goes, any peace deal will fail,” it concludes. “However, without regional support to pacify the country, the defeat of Assad alone will not end the conflict either, and will leave it vulnerable to domination by extremist forces.

“International attempts to divide the rebellion into moderates and extremists are bound to fail, because the rebels themselves rarely make the same distinction.”
