Three clips on the historical relationship between the West, USA in particular, and islam

This one is of Fox News anchorman Brian Kilmeade who become fascinated with the Barbary Wars and the Tripoli Pirates.

The video is at the link from FOX TV

Below, Brian Kilmeade interviewed by Mark Levin (American lawyer, author, and host of American syndicated radio show “The Mark Levin Show”)

Below, is a 7-minute segment from the 1966 film Khartoum, with British General Gordon played by Charlton Heston opposing the invasion plans of Sudanese Muslim army leader Muhammad Ahmad ibn Abdullah claiming to be the Mahdi (the prophesied redeemer of Islam or “expected” one of Mohammed) and played by Laurence Olivier. The self-proclaimed Mahdi’s plans were to invade Khartoum (Sudan), liberate it from Anglo-Egyptian control, and give the Islamic nation independence from its Egyptian rulers that controlled Sudan (1885).

When you see it, you realize that writers in Hollywood understood this ancient evil perfectly in 1966. So it is more a function of what we have forgotten than what we don’t know — although the film writers did not include the part where, in the end, Gordon is beheaded, and his head stuck on a pole that is paraded in triumph in Khartoum. The entire film is linked here.

  1. Re the Charlton Heston movie clip….Not sure but might be General Gordon. Will watch the full film.

Anyway, read the River War by Churchill if you want a really good insight into MENA and Islam…

  2. I wonder if US ambassador Chris Stephens thought of Charlie Gordon and his piked head as he waited for Hillary Rodham Clinton to send those reinforcements that never came.

The fact that half of the American public are completely oblivious as to the magnitude and nature of the Benghazi incident is truly amazing. It’s as if Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone and Jim Bouey were all at the Alamo with their cellphones in their hands linked straight into the White House, and the Secretary of state answered with the words, “Stand Down”, and then sent absolutely no reinforcements whatsoever. That’s what happened at Benghazi! Just one F-16 could have made all the difference but they chose to leave Davy and Daniel and Jim completely exposed. Why isn’t everybody going nuts about that? I don’t understand!

Vlad, it is vital to understand that without repetition of knowledge, knowledge is forgotten.

In 1974 was republished a 1931 collection of some of the classic articles on islam by Western scholars. There was only on addition in this new collection: the first article bemoaned how the Left and the Christian clergy were whitewashing the evils of islam.

Western scholars, in their ridiculously under-stated way, tried to warn the populous of what was afoot.

In the mid 1970s, the TinTin comics were able to produce a comic in French which explained the story of Mohammed’s violent rise to power: replete with a front-cover cartoon of him leading his army on horseback, sword raised to the sky.

The Left’s project of promoting and defending Islam has been a near-total success. There were a whole slew of pro-Israeli Hollywood films made in the 1970s. None of them would be made now.

  4. I personally see a distinct link between Khartoum and today. The British prime minister determined to prevent war, sends Gordon to seek a peace deal with the Mahdi who had previously slaughtered a well equipped army sent by the leader of Egypt. The man known then as the Mahdi proclaims his determination to bring his brand of Islam world wide, Because Britain stalled, thousands died and eventually they had to crush the Islamists, isn’t there a similarity here?
