“Two British bankers have been convicted by a New York jury of manipulating inter-bank lending rates.

Anthony Allen and Anthony Conti were changed with conspiracy to commit wire and bank fraud and committing wire fraud, by misreporting the London interbank offered rate (Libor) as it related to the US dollar.

Both worked for Dutch lender Rabobank.

The Libor scandal blew up in 2012 when it emerged that banks had been lying in the figures on which Libor was set.

The Libor rate is a key figure in setting global borrowing rates.

“UK investigators looking at what caused a Russian airliner to crash in Egypt believe a bomb was put in the hold prior to take-off, the BBC has learned.

The UK government suspended all flights to and from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh two days ago.

The move came after it decided the incident was likely to be have been caused by terrorism.

It had received intelligence based on intercepted communications between militants in the Sinai Peninsula.

  3. Exclusive: Chemical weapons used by rebels in Syria – sources (reuters, Nov 6, 2015)
    http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/11/05/us-mideast-crisis-syria-chemicalweapons-idUSKCN0SU2PZ20151105

“Chemical weapons experts have determined that mustard gas was used in a Syrian town where Islamic State insurgents were battling another rebel group, according to a report by an international watchdog seen by Reuters.

A confidential Oct. 29 report by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), a summary of which was shown to Reuters, concluded “with the utmost confidence that at least two people were exposed to sulfur mustard” in the town of Marea, north of Aleppo, on Aug. 21.

“It is very likely that the effects of sulfur mustard resulted in the death of a baby,” it said.

The findings provide the first official confirmation of use of sulfur mustard, commonly known as mustard gas, in Syria since it agreed to destroy its chemical weapons stockpile, which included sulfur mustard.

The report did not mention Islamic State, as the fact-finding mission was not mandated to assign blame, but diplomatic sources said the chemical had been used in the clashes between Islamic State and another rebel group taking place in the town at the time.

“It raises the major question of where the sulfur mustard came from,” one source said. “Either they (IS) gained the ability to make it themselves, or it may have come from an undeclared stockpile overtaken by IS. Both are worrying options.”…”

  4. Sweden can no longer guarantee refugee beds (thelocal, Nov 6, 2015)
    http://www.thelocal.se/20151105/sweden-urges-refugees-to-stay-in-germany

“UPDATED: Sweden’s Migration Minister Morgan Johansson has urged refugees in northern Germany to stay put, after declaring that the Nordic nation is now unable to guarantee beds for all asylum seekers.

Sweden is struggling to provide enough beds for the record number of refugees crossing into the country from Germany and Denmark, the government confirmed on Thursday.

At a press conference, Migration Minister Morgan Johansson told reporters that there was no longer a guarantee that all asylum seekers could be offered emergency accommodation.

“We are in in a very dramatic situation, it has become even more dramatic in recent days. Last week we saw a decline, but now the past few days, we see an increase,” he said, referring to the ongoing arrival of refugees fleeing war-torn nations to seek new lives in Sweden.

“The urgent problem today is that the number of asylum seekers is increasing faster than the number of accommodation places. Sweden today can no longer guarantee accommodation places,” he added.

“Those coming to our borders may well be greeted by the news that we can not arrange accommodation. They may then decide to either arrange accommodation on their own or go back to Germany or Denmark,” he said…”

    • Sweden and Denmark in refugee war of words (thelocal, Nov 6, 2015)
      http://www.thelocal.se/20151106/denmark-and-sweden-in-refugee-war-of-words

“UPDATED: Sweden’s declaration that it can no longer guarantee refugees a roof over their heads has sparked a back-and-forth debate between Danish and Swedish ministers.

With Sweden struggling to provide enough beds for the record number of refugees crossing into the country, the country’s migration minister on Thursday urged asylum seekers travelling from Germany or Denmark that they would not be guaranteed a safe place to sleep.

“The urgent problem today is that the number of asylum seekers is increasing faster than the number of accommodation places. Sweden today can no longer guarantee accommodation places,” said Morgan Johansson at a press conference.

“Those coming to our borders may well be greeted by the news that we can not arrange accommodation. They may then decide to either arrange accommodation on their own or go back to Germany or Denmark,” he said.

Johansson’s comments did not go unnoticed in Denmark, where politicians have actively tried to keep the number of refugees down in contrast to Sweden’s more open policy.

Danish Integration Minister Inger Støjberg reacted on Thursday evening by calling Johansson’s comment “neither good nor appropriate”.

“Sweden put itself in the situation it is in by carrying out extremely gentle immigration policies in every way. It’s not a solution to start guiding refugees to other countries. One can hope that the Swedes are beginning to take a more realistic approach to the situation,” he told Jyllands-Posten.

Støjberg rejected the notion that Denmark had essentially fuelled the influx of refugees to Sweden by letting them travel unhindered on the way to Sweden, rather than authorities registering them as they are supposed to under the EU’s Dublin regulations.

“I know that Finland is receiving many asylum seekers who have travelled through Sweden. So the Swedish and the Danish way of registering asylum seekers are completely the same to my knowledge,” she said.

Støjberg went on to echo Danish Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen in saying that Denmark will not take any refugees from Sweden.

“I don’t see us taking any of the Swedish asylum seekers,” she said.

Jensen said on Thursday that the only help Denmark would offer its Swedish neighbours was inspiration from its more hard-line approach to immigration…”

    • ” They may then decide to either arrange accommodation on their own or go back to Germany or Denmark,” he said…”

Does that mean the Swedes will look the other way if Muslims start squatting in private Swedish homes? It would be “raciss” if the home owners objected.

Massive brawl reported at migrant center in Hamburg

A brawl has taken place between Afghan and Albanian migrants at an intake center for migrants in Hamburg. Authorities estimate that up to 60 people took part in the fighting.

Police are investigating why up to 60 people took part in a brawl between Afghans and Albanians interned at a migrant center in Hamburg on Tuesday. As night fell, one tent at the camp was on fire, though it remained unclear whether that had to do with the fighting.

Five people were injured, with one going to the hospital with a gash in his arm. It remained unclear if he had been stabbed, but police – who sent 30 cars to put down the fighting – reported finding no weapons at the scene. Three people were arrested.

Fights have also broken out recently at overfilled migrant internment centers in Calden, Leipzig and elsewhere in Hamburg . One man is reported to have killed himself at a center on Monday.

Migrants arriving in Germany in recent months have been confronted by massive anti-foreigner marches as well as increasing casual racism .

  6. USA -Merced County, California – Sheriff: Muslim Student Had ‘Script’ for Stabbing Rampage

Faisal Mohammad had an elaborate scripted plan to terrorize students.

    • THE BLAZE – Two-Page Handwritten Manifesto Found on Body of UC Merced Attacker — Here’s What It Said, and Who He Praised

The man who went on a stabbing rampage Wednesday at the University of California, Merced, praised Allah in a two-page manifesto recovered from his body, the Merced County Sheriff said Thursday.

Sheriff Verne Warnke said the document was recovered from his pocket by the coroner as an autopsy was being performed on the body of Faisal Mohammad. The 18-year-old student stabbed four on the university campus before authorities shot and killed him, police said.

Warnke said the document indicated Mohammad was upset after being kicked out of a study group. His manifesto included a “detailed list” of targets and plans to tie students to desks in an effort to lure police into the room. From there, the computer science and engineering student wanted to take the officer’s gun and shoot people.

The manifesto indicated Mohammad “intended to kill a lot of people,” authorities said, according to the Merced Sun-Star. Investigators had said night vision goggles, duct tape and zip tie had been found in his backpack.

The document also included several references to Allah, the sheriff said. Warnke, however, stressed that there was “still nothing to indicate” Mohammad’s Muslim religion had anything to do with his motive. He compared the references made to Allah to a Christian making references to Jesus before carrying out a life-changing decision.

University officials have also said that there is no evidence to believe it was “in any way related to terrorism.” Instead, officials continue to stress all signs point to a disgruntled student taking extreme revenge on those he felt betrayed by.

Construction worker Bryon Price, hailed as a hero for preventing others form being injured in the attack, said that Mohammad “had a smile on his face” like he “was having fun” as he swung his 10-inch knife.

  8. Britain MUST start bombing ISIS in Syria if terror group brought down Russian plane, says Michael Fallon (dailymail Nov 6, 2015)
    http://dailym.ai/1NxI4Xr

“Britain must join airstrikes against ISIS strongholds in Syria if it is found that the terror group planted a bomb which brought down a passenger jet in Egypt, Michael Fallon has warned.

The Defence Secretary said it was ‘morally indefensible’ that the UK was not carrying out bombing raids in Syria despite having authorisation for strikes in neighbouring Iraq.

It came as the government faced calls to confirm it has a ‘kill list’ of senior ISIS fighters who could be targeted in Syria using unmanned drones without getting approval from Parliament.

Mr Fallon today met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in London for talks this morning on the intelligence Britain has about what caused the crash on Saturday.

David Cameron has faced a backlash from both Russia and Egypt over his claim that it is ‘more likely than not’ that a bomb downed the passenger plane over Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

But Mr Fallon said that if ISIS was behind the bomb, it would bolster calls for Britain to join airstrikes in Syria…”

  9. DailyCaller -USA – School District Outlaws Depiction Of ‘ANY RELIGIOUS LEADER’ After Mom Protests Muhammad Drawing

A school district superintendent in semi-rural Southern California has completely outlawed all drawings of all religious leaders on campus because a history teacher assigned a vocabulary worksheet that asked students to draw images of Muhammad.

Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District superintendent Brent Woodard implemented the far-reaching ban after a single parent complained, reports the Los Angeles Daily News.

The seventh-grade history assignment at High Desert School in Acton, Calif. was a worksheet called “Vocabulary Pictures: The Rise of Islam.” It featured several words including Quran, Mecca, Bedouins and Muhammad. There was space for students to sketch their own images representing the various words.

The parent who found the assignment offensive is Melinda Van Stone, a chiropractor in nearby Palmdale.

After her 12-year-old son brought home the assignment a couple weeks ago, Van Stone was “very upset,” she said.

“It’s not appropriate to have our children go to school and learn how to insult a religious group,” she told the Daily News.

Van Stone refused to indicate her own religion or her son’s religion.

Woodard, the superintendent, has taken swift action based on the single complaint.

“I have directed all staff to permanently suspend the practice of drawing or depiction of any religious leader,” Woodard told the Los Angeles newspaper on Wednesday. “I am certain this teacher did not intend to offend anyone and in fact was simply teaching respect and tolerance for all cultures.”

The superintendent also said he plans to investigate the situation personally by calling an unidentified Islam expert to find out if the worksheet was insensitive.

High Desert School principal Lynn David noted that the worksheet is not part of any textbook and she isn’t sure how the unidentified teacher obtained it.

Van Stone’s son did not have to complete the worksheet and did not participate in any further coursework concerning Islam. He went to the office and did something else while the teacher and the other 30 or so students continued on with him.

Van Stone said she feels like this was akin to a punishment for her son.

Local school district president Ed Porter described the teacher who assigned the worksheet as “very tolerant,” according to the Daily News.

As University of Southern California comparative Islamic law professor Berj Boyajian explained, Muhammad, the founder of Islam, prohibited all images of all human beings. He was worried about idolatry.

Islamic scholars have long held that Muslims aren’t supposed to draw Muhammad. Images of Jesus, Moses and other Abrahamic heavyweights are also considered verboten.

Muslims around the world today tend to abide by the imagery ban on Muhammad.

“Muslims do not draw the image of the prophet Muhammad out of respect for him,” Muzammil Siddiqi of the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California told the Daily News.

Siddiqi also urged teachers to “be sensitive to this Muslim position that young Muslim students would be reluctant to do it.”

Council on American-Islamic Relations spokesman Fatima Dadabhoy told the Los Angeles broadsheet that schools should avoid “offensive material.”

The Guardian has observed that Islamic art depicting Muhammad has been created — by Muslims — as far back as the 13th century. This imagery illustrating all the major events in Muhammad’s life is commonplace in major library collections and museums.
