  3. Now we know the true cost of liberal grandstanding – £24,000 per migrant per year

These official figures imply a total bill for taxpayers of up to £2 billion for the 20,000 migrants that the Government has pledged to take in here over the next four years.

By their vain grandstanding, some of our EU partners — especially Germany’s Angela Merkel, who has said she would be happy to take 800,000 Syrian migrants in 2015 alone — have made the predicament much worse.

Their promises to open the door mean we are confronted by an unprecedented continental exodus, not just from Syria, but from countries such as Nigeria and Bangladesh.

    http://nypost.com/2015/10/21/saudi-prince-accused-of-gay-sex-threats-and-fart-in-face-demand/

A Saudi Arabian prince is accused by three female staffers of acting like a bizarre party boy — engaging in a gay-sex act in front of them, threatening a woman’s life, demanding that an assistant fart in his face while others watched and declaring, “I am a prince and I do what I want,” according to a report.

Prince Majed bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who is the son of the late King Abdullah, allegedly engaged in the lurid behavior at his $37 million mansion in Beverly Hills, according to a lawsuit flied by a trio of women who worked for him there, the Daily Mail reports.

The lawsuit accuses Al?Saud, 29, of being drunk and on drugs — and of making crude sexual advances on men and women alike.

The prince is accused of getting on top of one woman and grinding on her in a “sexual and aggressive manner.” He also allegedly threatened the life of another woman after she refused to “party” with him, the report said.

  6. Neo-Nazis infiltrate German refugee shelters amid far-Right resurgence

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/germany/11943717/Neo-Nazis-infiltrate-German-refugee-shelters-amid-far-Right-resurgence.html

Neo-Nazi sympathisers and other far-Right elements are infiltrating German refugee centres leaving migrants vulnerable to abuse, a German television investigation has found.

The highly disturbing findings will fuel fears that Germany is experiencing a resurgence of far-Right extremism as it struggles to cope with an influx of up to 800,000 migrants this year.

The threat came to light after several far-Right sympathisers who had posted their pictures online were found to be working as security guards and hostel managers in sites across Germany.

In one of several cases revealed in a documentary by ZDF, the German public broadcaster, a convicted member of the neo-Nazi group Sturm 18 was found to be working as a security guard at a refuge in the southern city of Heidelberg.

  7. Horror as Christian migrant ‘brutally beaten with baton in refugee camp’

    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/613479/Migrant-Refugee-Germany-Camp-Attack-Afghan-Iranian-Christianity-Koran-Syrian-Hamburg

A MIGRANT was allegedly beaten inside a refugee camp in a brutal attack – for converting to Christianity.

The 24-year-old was beaten with a baton by an Afghan man, who declared his conversion was a “sin”, according to police.

The alleged attack left the Iranian victim with “serious injuries”, police said.

He is believed to told some Afghan migrants that he had embraced Christianity.

He was reportedly left unconscious as a result of the alleged beating, in which 15 to 20 people were forced to intervene and pull the attacker away.

Officials in Hamburg-Eidelstedt, Germany have launched a probe into the incident.

It is not the first time violence has erupted inside a refugee camp as a result of religious debate.

In August, riots broke out in an overcrowded German refugee camp after an Afghan resident tore pages out of a Koran and threw them in the toilet.

  8. Migrants stranded in Balkans suffer bad weather, bottlenecks

    http://www.oann.com/slovenia-gives-army-more-power-amid-migrant-crisis/

LJUBLJANA, Slovenia/BERKASOVO,Serbia (Reuters) – About 3,500 migrants spent the night camped out in freezing cold at the Berkasovo-Bapska border crossing between Serbia and Croatia after the Croatian government closed the gates to limit the number of people entering the country.

At first light on Thursday, groups of refugees bypassed the official border crossing and walked through orchards into Croatia.

“Babies crying, women crying, we were burning big fires, but it was very cold, no one gave us food, only some bread,” said a man named Sayed, who had made it to the border from the Syrian capital of Damascus.

The crossing is one of the new focal points of Europe’s biggest refugee and migrant crisis since World War II, which has seen hundreds of thousands of people fleeing war and poverty in the Middle East and Africa this year to try to reach Europe’s rich countries.

Hungary sealed its border with Croatia last week, blocking entry with a metal fence and razor wire. Croatia began directing migrants west to Slovenia, which has tried to stem the flow as migrants sought new routes and human bottlenecks built up through the Balkans.

  9. Netanyahu stirs up trouble with Muslim Holocaust comments

    http://www.oann.com/netanyahu-stirs-up-trouble-with-muslim-holocaust-comments/

JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu provoked controversy on Wednesday, hours before a visit to Germany, by saying the former Muslim elder in Jerusalem convinced Adolf Hitler to exterminate the Jews.

In a speech to the Zionist Congress late on Tuesday, Netanyahu referred to a series of attacks by Muslims against Jews in Palestine during the 1920s that he said were instigated by the then Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini.

Husseini famously flew to visit Hitler in Berlin in 1941, and Netanyahu said that meeting was instrumental in the Nazi leader’s decision to launch a campaign to annihilate the Jews.

“Hitler didn’t want to exterminate the Jews at the time, he wanted to expel the Jews,” Netanyahu said in the speech. “And Haj Amin al-Husseini went to Hitler and said, ‘If you expel them, they’ll all come here.’

“‘So what should I do with them?’” Netanyahu said Hitler asked the mufti, who responded: “Burn them.”

  10. Sectarian hate takes root as Yemen anti-Houthi forces push on Sanaa

    http://www.oann.com/sectarian-hate-takes-root-as-yemen-anti-houthi-forces-push-on-sanaa/

MARIB, Yemen (Reuters) – Mohsen Saleh al-Muradi does not just want to drive the Shi’ite Houthi fighters out of Yemen’s capital 130 km (80 miles) from his home town, he wants to hunt them down and stamp them out.

“I will keep fighting all the way to Maran,” said the slight, moustached native of the north Yemen town of Marib, wearing a bright red headscarf and a bullet pouch on his chest, referring to the Houthis highland stronghold.

“I want to trample them under my feet.”

In a messy conflict of many fronts, the forces backed by wealthy neighboring Gulf states against the Houthi fighters that control Sanaa often have little in common with each other and scant enthusiasm for the leader on whose behalf they are ostensibly fighting: President Abd Rabbu Mansour al-Hadi.

What they increasingly share is a visceral sectarian hatred for Shi’ites, a dangerous new trait in a country where different interpretations of Islam co-existed for centuries.

  11. Assad flies to Moscow to thank Putin for Syria air strikes

    http://www.oann.com/syrias-assad-met-putin-in-moscow-to-discuss-military-campaign-kremlin-spokesman/

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad flew to Moscow on Tuesday evening to thank Russia’s Vladimir Putin personally for his military support, in a surprise visit that underlined how Russia has become a major player in the Middle East.

It was Assad’s first foreign visit since the start of the Syrian crisis in 2011, and came three weeks after Russia launched a campaign of air strikes against Islamist militants in Syria that has also bolstered Assad’s forces.

The Kremlin, which said it had invited Assad to visit Moscow, kept the visit quiet until Wednesday morning, broadcasting a meeting between the two men in the Kremlin and releasing a transcript of an exchange they had.

Putin said he hoped progress on the military front would be followed by moves towards a political solution in Syria, bolstering Western hopes Moscow will use its increased influence on Damascus to cajole Assad into talking to his opponents.

During the surprise visit, he held talks with President Vladimir Putin.

Russia launched air strikes in Syria last month against the so-called Islamic State (IS) and other militant groups battling Mr Assad’s forces.

Mr Assad said Russia’s involvement had stopped “terrorism” becoming “more widespread and harmful” in Syria.

For his part, Mr Putin said Moscow’s hope, in providing a “positive dynamic in the fighting”, was that a “long term resolution can be achieved on the basis of a political process with the participation of all political forces, ethnic and religious groups”.

The visit happened on Tuesday evening, but was not announced until Wednesday – after Mr Assad had returned to Damascus…”

  12. Iraq’s cholera outbreak exceeds 1,800 cases: health ministry

    http://www.oann.com/iraqs-cholera-outbreak-exceeds-1800-cases-health-ministry/

BAGHDAD (Reuters) – Iraq’s first major cholera outbreak since 2012 has risen to more than 1,800 cases, including six deaths, and spread to the northern Kurdistan region, a health ministry spokesmen said on Wednesday.

The illness, which can lead to death by dehydration and kidney failure within hours if left untreated, was detected last month west of Baghdad.

Most of the new cases are there and in Babel province south of the capital, spokesman Ahmed al-Rudaini said by phone from Baghdad.

  13. Lose the ‘quagmire’ theme; Russia can’t fall into one in Syria

We’re going to keep this one (relatively) short. I’ve written about Russia’s goals in Syria elsewhere (see here as well).

A Bloomberg article from Monday commendably recognizes that Russia’s goals in Syria are “far broader” than the official goal of fighting Salafi terrorists. The authors fall short of “getting” what the Russian involvement there is about, but they’re on the right track.

The problem is that they, like almost everyone else, are still framing the situation in the terms of a U.S.-style expeditionary intervention. This leads the authors to say something like this:

President Vladimir Putin is willing to run the risk of falling into the kind of quagmire that helped sink the Soviet Union a generation ago for the chance to roll back U.S. influence and demonstrate he can dictate terms to Washington. If the strategy is successful, Russia’s largest military drive in decades outside the former Soviet Union would force the U.S. and its allies to choose between Assad, whom they oppose for his human-rights abuses, and the brutal extremists of Islamic State.

    • Syria: You know this isn’t about Assad anymore, right?

      http://libertyunyielding.com/2015/09/16/syria-you-know-this-isnt-about-assad-anymore-right/

As Russia and Iran move in more overtly on Syria, it’s important to understand that their objective is not to prop up a weak, dependent Bashar al-Assad. Doing that is a convenience. Assad functions now as a fig leaf for the real objective of his long-time patrons: establishing effective control of the territory of Syria.

The Western media will probably keep saying, by rote, that Russia and Iran are supporting Assad – just as they will keep saying that the U.S. coalition is battling Islamic State. But there’s a reason for the “why this summer; why right now” behind Russia’s seemingly sudden strategic move on Syria. And it’s not the superficial motives being attributed to Russia or Iran.

    • The real headline: Russians buy air space with cruise missile demo, as U.S. forces retreat

      http://libertyunyielding.com/2015/10/09/real-headline-russians-buy-air-space-with-cruise-missile-demo-as-u-s-forces-retreat/

The Pentagon released information Thursday that some of the cruise missiles launched by Russian warships into Syria the day before (Wednesday, 7 October) had crashed in Iran, instead of making it to their targets. The missiles were launched from the Caspian Sea, between Iran and southern Russia.

The global audience was apt to note the point that four of the 26 missiles launched by Russia crashed. But the more important point is that Russia launched the missiles in the first place.

The question is why. The answer is not darkly nefarious (not particularly, anyway), but it’s not obvious from the standpoint of tactical military operations either.

    • Putin Officials Said to Admit Real Syria Goal Is Far Broader

      http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-10-19/putin-officials-said-to-admit-real-syrian-goals-are-far-broader

As Russia’s air war in Syria nears its fourth week, officials now admit that Moscow’s aim is far broader than the publicly announced fight against terrorist groups.

The Kremlin’s real goal is to help Syrian President Bashar al-Assad retake as much as possible of the territory his forces have lost to opponents, including U.S.-backed rebels, Russian officials told Bloomberg News. Moscow’s deployment of several dozen planes, as well as ships in the Black and Caspian Seas, could last a year or more, one official said.

“They’re going to have to recognize that Islamic State is the real threat that has been countered only by the Syrian regular army commanded by President Bashar al-Assad,” said Iliyas Umakhanov, deputy speaker of Russia’s upper house Federation Council, who oversees international relations at the assembly.

    • This is another must read article, it explains why things are different from what we are use to and why the analyses of the LSM are wrong and will be until reality sinks in, which takes a long time when you are dealing with the left.

“More than 1,000 people are still unaccounted for after the migrant boat crisis in the Andaman Sea earlier this year, a new report has said.

Amnesty International said Bangladeshi migrants and persecuted Rohingya fleeing Myanmar faced “hellish” conditions on trafficking boats.

The report is based on interviews with 100 refugees who reached Indonesia.

It comes as traffickers are expected to resume operations when the monsoon season ends in October.

The UN estimates that 370 people died between January and June, as thousands of people took to boats across the region.

But Amnesty disputed this, saying eyewitnesses saw dozens of large boats full of people. Only five boats were said by the UN to have landed in Indonesia and Malaysia, it said.

“Hundreds – if not thousands – of people remain unaccounted for, and may have died during the journeys or have been sold for forced labour,” the report said.

“Vice Media is carrying out a two-hour blackout on its websites to call attention to an Iraqi Kurdish journalist who has been held in Turkish jails without charges since being arrested while working for the news organization.

Mohammed Rasool has been in jail for nearly eight weeks. He was detained while serving as a fixer for two British journalists for Vice News covering the conflict in Turkey’s Kurdish southeast. On Wednesday, Vice News’ parent group was directing all of its digital sites to a petition addressed to Turkish President Tayyip Recep Erdogan that calls for Rasool’s release.

Vice Media organized the petition with the U.S.-based Committee to Protect Journalists. CPJ Executive Director Joel Simon called Rasool’s case “a tremendous injustice.”

    http://tribune.com.pk/story/976617/pakistan-proven-itself-to-be-deceitful-deceptive-us-lawmaker/

“A top American lawmaker has advised US President Barack Obama against inking any civil nuclear deal with Pakistan after asserting the country has been repeatedly “deceptive and deceitful”.

“Simply put, Pakistan’s current and past record is disqualifying for any consideration by the US to support civil nuclear cooperation with Pakistan bilaterally or in any relevant multilateral forum,” Congressman Ted Poe said in a letter to Obama, according to the Times of India.

Poe who heads a Congressional subcommittee on terrorism and non-proliferation urged Obama to not engage in any negotiations regarding a US-Pak civil nuclear agreement. “Pakistan has repeatedly proven itself to be deceptive and deceitful,” he warned.

“Not only does this country continue to harbour terrorist troops and interests in Afghanistan, they have yet to come clean about previous nuclear dealings with countries like Iran,” he added in the letter.

Further, the Congressman asserted, “I’ve long called for an end to military aid to this nation that just takes our money and uses it against our interest.”

“Supporting a civilian nuclear agreement with Pakistan – a Benedict Arnold ally of the US – while the Pakistani government continues to demonstrate it cannot be trusted would be irresponsible and dangerous,” he added.

Strong concern was expressed throughout the letter about reports pertaining to the possibility that the US is engaged in policy discussions, and possible bilateral negotiations, with Pakistan; related to its nuclear programme which may include US support for a US-Pakistan civil nuclear agreement, relaxation of Nuclear Suppliers Group export controls and possibly also NSG membership.

  27. Justin Trudeau: Canada’s Obama
The next Prime Minister of Canada will get along fine with the President.

    http://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/260520/justin-trudeau-canadas-obama-robert-spencer

For years, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has served as a welcome counterpoint to Barack Obama, and the object of wistful musings about what a fine President of the United States he would have been, if only he had been born south of the border: generally realistic about the jihad threat, determined to do what was necessary to meet that threat, and a strong supporter of Israel.

But now Canada at last has its own Obama: Justin Trudeau. And that means that Canada, like the United States, faces deep trouble ahead.

The new Prime Minister of Canada, like Obama, has consistently downplayed the nature and magnitude of the jihad threat and ascribed it to other causes. Christine Williams, a Canadian journalist and a Federally appointed Director with the Canadian Race Relations Foundation, has noted that in the wake of the Boston Marathon jihad bombing, Trudeau issued a bizarre statement: “There is no question that this happened because of someone who feels completely excluded, someone who feels completely at war with innocence, at war with society.”

At war with innocence. That rivals the Obama Administration’s ascribing the Fort Hood jihad massacre to “workplace violence.” In reality, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev explained after the bombing that he and his brother committed murder at the Marathon because they wanted to defend Islam. Tamerlan Tsarnaev had vowed to die for Islam.

But – also like Obama – as far as Justin Trudeau is concerned, if you’re looking into Islam as having anything to do with jihad terror attacks, you’re looking in the wrong place. Williams notes that Trudeau in 2013 “came under fire for his participation in Canada’s largest Islamic Conference, held in Toronto, and entitled, ‘Reviving the Islamic Spirit.’ The criticism was over the conference’s sponsor, IRFAN [International Relief Fund for the Afflicted and Needy], which was stripped of its federal charity status because of its ties to the terrorist group, Hamas. Even the moderate Muslim Canadian Congress advised Trudeau not to attend.”

  28. The Death of Europe
How the Mohammed retirement plan will kill Europe.

    http://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/260511/death-europe-daniel-greenfield

European leaders talk about two things these days; preserving European values by taking in Muslim migrants and integrating Muslim migrants into Europe by getting them to adopt European values.

It does not occur to them that their plan to save European values depends on killing European values.

The same European values that require Sweden, a country of less than 10 million, to take in 180,000 Muslim migrants in one year also expects the new “Swedes” to celebrate tolerance, feminism and gay marriage. Instead European values have filled the cities of Europe with Shariah patrols, unemployed angry men waving ISIS flags and the occasional public act of terror.

European countries that refuse to invest money in border security instead find themselves forced to invest money into counterterrorism forces. And those are bad for European values too.

But, as Central European countries are discovering, European values don’t have much to do with the preservation of viable functioning European states. Instead they are about the sort of static Socialism that Bernie Sanders admires from abroad. But even a Socialist welfare state requires people to work for a living. Maine’s generous welfare policies began collapsing once Somali Muslims swarmed in to take advantage of them. Denmark and the Dutch, among other of Bernie Sanders’ role models, have been sounding more like Reagan and less like Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren.

  29. Germany “Turbocharges” Economy by Spending Billions on Muslim Migrants

Psst, Angela. If you really want to turbocharge your economy, we’ve got a lot of crackheads we can let you have for next to nothing. They’ll really “turbocharge” your economy.

But a plan is a plan. Even if it’s a really terrible stupid plan.

The German government is banking on the refugees arriving in its cities by the thousands each day to help turbocharge its economy and offset the effects of weaker demand from China.

China is buying less stuff from us. Quick, let’s bring in 1.5 million Muslims who will spend their lives on welfare. That will save the economy.

Increased state spending on refugees and private consumption will drive growth in Europe’s largest economy this year and next, German Vice Chancellor and Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel said.

I didn’t think I would ever encounter anyone with a crazier view of economics than Paul Krugman, but Sigmar Gabriel did it.

  30. Sudan to send 10,000 troops to join Arab forces in Yemen: report

A new batch of Sudanese soldiers was deployed to Yemen on Monday to join the Saudi-led coalition fighting Houthi rebels who controlled most of the country including the capital Sana’a last year.

The UAE-based Sky News TV quoted sources in the 4th military region in Aden as saying that 450 Sudanese soldiers arrived in the coastal city today “as part of operations to strengthen security”.

“The soldiers who arrived are part of the second contingent of the force which Khartoum pledged to send,” another source told Turkish Anadolu news agency.

The spokesman of the Yemeni army Brigadier General Samir al-Haj said that the number of Sudanese forces is expected to reach 6,000 with expertise in fighting in the rugged mountains and will take part in the liberation of Ta’iz and Ibb.

But other security officials told Associated Press (AP) that Sudan plans to send a total of 10,000 soldiers.

The Sudanese Defense Minister Awad bin Auf said in remarks published by al-Watan newspaper in Saudi Arabia that the soldiers’ mission is focused on policing and any work assigned to them by the leadership of the Arab coalition.

“There are 6,000 fighters from special forces, ground forces and elite troops ready to participate when requested by the leadership of the coalition,” Sudan’s top military official declared.

The minister stressed that President Omer Hassan al-Bashir gave clear instructions for provision of all military support to Yemen.

“Even if more troops and military contribution is needed we are ready for any developments,” he added.

On Sunday, Saudi Arabia confirmed officially for the first time the participation of Sudanese ground forces.

“The Sudanese force are added value to the coalition forces on the ground,” Saudi Defense Minister adviser Brigadier General Ahmad Assiri told Sky news Arabia TV.

At a time when Saudi Arabia’s strongest allies including Egypt and Pakistan have declined requests by Riyadh to send ground troops to Yemen, Khartoum has recently shifted its alliances in response to growing economic pressures at home.

Late last year, Sudanese authorities ordered the closure of the Iranian Cultural Centre in the capital Khartoum and other states and asked the Iranian cultural attaché to leave the country in a move seen as a gesture of goodwill towards the Arab Gulf states.

  31. New York Times’ “Diverse” Muslim Stonethrowers Kill 2nd Jewish Man

Last week, the New York Times ran an article by terrorist propagandist Diaa Hadid celebrating the historically racist practice of Muslim stone throwing at Jews. Hadid described Muslim stone throwing at Jews as drawing a “diverse” crowd… though I’m not sure how Muslims throwing stones at Jews counts as diversity.

Maybe the New York Times can explain that one.

The last time a Jewish man was killed by Muslim stone throwers, Diaa Hadid described the murder as an “accident”. The story was headlined, “4 Youths Held in Death of Israeli Man whose Car was Hit by Rocks”.

Apparently the rocks just threw themselves and Israel senselessly arrested “4 youths” who had nothing to do with the rocks.

  32. Qatar says could intervene militarily in Syria but prefers political solution

Qatar, a major supporter of rebels in Syria’s civil war, suggested it could intervene militarily following Russia’s intervention in support of President Bashar al-Assad but said it still preferred a political solution to the crisis.

The comments by Qatar’s foreign minister, made in a CNN interview on Wednesday, drew a swift reply from Assad’s government with a senior official warning that Damascus would respond harshly to such “direct aggression”.

Gulf Arab backers of Syrian rebels such as Qatar have been unsettled by Russia’s three-week-old air strike campaign that has allowed Assad’s forces to wrest back some territory to help secure his strongholds in western Syria.

Qatar has been a leading supporter of anti-Assad rebel groups, providing arms and financial and political backing.

Asked by CNN if Qatar supported the Saudi position that does not rule out a military option in Syria as a result of Russia’s intervention, Foreign Minister Khalid al-Attiyah said:

“Anything that protects the Syrian people and Syria from partition, we will not spare any effort to carry it out with our Saudi and Turkish brothers, no matter what this is.

“If a military intervention will protect the Syrian people from the brutality of the regime, we will do it,”f he added, according to a text in Arabic carried by Qatar’s state news agency QNA.

His comments were also carried on CNN’s Arabic website.

In response, Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad was quoted by Lebanon-based al-Mayadeen television as saying: “If Qatar carries out its threat to militarily intervene in Syria, then we will consider this a direct aggression … Our response will be very harsh.”

Attiyah also said Qatar preferred to solve regional crises through direct political dialogue.

“We do not fear any confrontation, and thus we will call for dialogue from a position of strength because we believe in peace and the shortest path to peace is through direct dialogue.”

Qatar is a small but wealthy gas exporter that played a major role in supporting Islamist opposition groups during Arab Spring uprisings in 2011 in Libya and Syria.

  33. ‘Wear a Christian Cross’: Al-Qaeda Jihad Rules Adapted Into Handbook for Lone Wolves
Guide covers how would-be terrorists should place special focus on blending in, looking and acting un-Islamic.

    http://pjmedia.com/blog/wear-a-christian-cross-al-qaeda-jihad-rules-adapted-into-handbook-for-lone-wolves/

Islamic State supporters have converted a series of al-Qaeda lectures on operational guidelines into a 12-chapter, 63-page English-language handbook for lone-wolf jihadists.

The tips in “Safety and Security Guidelines for Lone Wolf Mujahideen,” with hazy artwork of New York City in flames on the cover, were released in Arabic a few years back by al-Qaeda’s al-Fajr Media Center. The ISIS translators said they “tried to adapt it and pick what’s important and leave what’s not relevant for an individual Mujahid and small groups.” They also added updates to account for current technology.

“We thought a lot of non-Arabic speaking brothers would find it interesting and may apply it in their blessed operations,” add the translators in their foreword, stressing that lone wolves should also be reading al-Qaeda’s Inspire magazine and ISIS’ Dabiq.

The handbook tells jihadists to draw upon the lessons of 9/11 when considering the element of surprise. “The US never thought we would hit them at home… Even the brothers that did the operation didn’t think it will be something of that magnitude… The only one that knew were the pilots. Why? To secure the operation. If one of the brothers gets caught and interrogated, he can’t say anything that will endanger the operation.”

The adaptation of the texts highlights that lone wolves are hardly the fallback strategy of desperate terrorist groups, but al-Qaeda envisioned many smaller cells “without the cells having a link with each other, and even with any group” as a much safer strategy.

Scientists and activists warning of catastrophic man-made global warming should look at Earth’s long climate history, according to a co-founder of the environmental group Greenpeace. As it turns out, Earth is currently experiencing one of the coldest climates in its history.

“A well-documented record of global temperature over the past 65 million years shows that we have been in a major cooling period since the Eocene Thermal Maximum 50 million years ago,” Dr. Patrick Moore said at a lecture Wednesday hosted by the U.K.-based Global Warming Policy Foundation.

“The Earth was an average 16C warmer then, with most of the increased warmth at the higher latitudes,” said Moore, who helped found Greenpeace in the 1970s. “The entire planet, including the Arctic and Antarctica were ice-free and the land there was covered in forest.”

Moore, an ecologist, left Greenpeace in the 1980s because he thought the group had become too radical in its demands. Greenpeace disowned Moore, who is renowned by conservatives for skepticism over claims that humankind is causing catastrophic global warming.

Moore argues that manmade carbon dioxide emissions have been good for the planet, providing plants with nutrients they need to grow. In fact, scientists have observed a “greening” of the planet over the last couple decades because of higher CO2 levels.

President Obama once praised it as a shining example of America’s clean energy future. “With projects like this one,” he said at the site of a solar plant just before construction started, “we’re putting Americans to work producing clean, home-grown American energy.”

And his Department of Energy showered $1.6 billion in loan guarantees, as well as $600 million in tax credits.

The plant is the Ivanpah Solar Power Facility, a behemoth that uses hundreds of thousands of mirrors spread out over more than five square miles of the Mojave Desert. The mirrors all aim at the tops of three 459-foot towers, where the heat boils water in tanks held there, which generates steam to turn the electricity-producing turbines.

But it turns out that Ivanpah isn’t so squeaky clean after all.
