  1. Churches attacked and one man killed in clashes in Aceh, Indonesia (BBC, Oct 14, 2015)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-34524817

“Two churches have been burned down and at least one person has been killed in clashes in Indonesia’s Aceh province on Tuesday, say officials.

Report say hundreds of Muslim men attacked a church in Aceh Singkil district, setting it on fire.
A human rights group said the attackers then burnt down a second Roman Catholic church.

They then went to a third church, where a man died in clashes with Christians defending the church and the police.

Tension in Aceh has been rising amid increasing Islamic conservatism in the province and Indonesia as a whole…”

“A police official says a bomb blast targeting a ruling party lawmaker has killed seven people in central Pakistan.

Mubashar Mekan says Amjad Khosa wasn’t present at his election office in Taunsa city at the time of the blast Wednesday. Nine people were wounded.

Mekan says police are investigating whether it was a suicide attack.

Pakistan has long been under attack from local and al-Qaida-linked foreign Islamic militants, killing tens of thousands of people in over a decade.

Since last summer, the Pakistani army has been battling the militants in their haven of the tribal region of North Waziristan on the Afghan border, dispersing many of the fighters there.”

  3. Ten Obvious Reasons Why Islam is NOT a Religion of Peace
    http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/Pages/Top-10-Reasons.htm

#1 18,000 deadly terror attacks committed explicitly in the name of Islam in just the last ten years. (Other religions combined for perhaps a dozen or so).

#2 Muhammad, the prophet of Islam, had people killed for insulting him or for criticizing his religion. This included women. Muslims are told to emulate the example of Muhammad.

    #3
Muhammad said in many places that he has been “ordered by Allah to fight men until they testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is his messenger.” In the last nine years of his life, he ordered no less than 65 military campaigns to do exactly that.

Muhammad inspired his men to war with the basest of motives, using captured loot, sex and a gluttonous paradise as incentives. He beheaded captives, enslaved children and raped women captured in battle. Again, Muslims are told to emulate the example of Muhammad.

    #4
After Muhammad died, the people who lived with him and knew his religion best immediately fell into war with each other.

Fatima, Muhammad’s favorite daughter, survived the early years among the unbelievers at Mecca safe and sound, yet died of stress from the persecution of fellow Muslims only six months after her father died. She even miscarried Muhammad’s grandchild after having her ribs broken by the man who became the second caliph.

Fatima’s husband Ali, who was the second convert to Islam and was raised like a son to Muhammad, fought a civil war against an army raised by Aisha, Muhammad’s favorite wife – and one whom he had said was a “perfect woman.” 10,000 Muslims were killed in a single battle waged less than 25 years after Muhammad’s death.

Three of the first four Muslim rulers (caliphs) were murdered. All of them were among Muhammad’s closest companions. The third caliph was killed by allies of the son of the first (who was murdered by the fifth caliph a few years later, then wrapped in the skin of a dead donkey and burned). The fourth caliph (Ali) was stabbed to death after a bitter dispute with the fifth. The fifth caliph went on to poison one of Muhammad’s two favorite grandsons. The other grandson was later beheaded by the sixth caliph.

The infighting and power struggles between Muhammad’s family members, closest companions and their children only intensified with time. Within 50 short years of Muhammad’s death, even the Kaaba, which had stood for centuries under pagan religion, lay in ruins from internal Muslim war…

And that’s just the fate of those within the house of Islam!

#5 Muhammad directed Muslims to wage war on other religions and bring them under submission to Islam. Within the first few decades following his death, his Arabian companions invaded and conquered Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist and Zoroastrian lands.
A mere 25 years after Muhammad’s death, Muslim armies had captured land and people within the borders of over 28 modern countries outside of Saudi Arabia.

    #6
Muslims continued their Jihad against other religions for 1400 years, checked only by the ability of non-Muslims to defend themselves. To this day, not a week goes by that Islamic fundamentalists do not attempt to kill Christians, Jews, Hindus and Buddhists explicitly in the name of Allah.

None of these other religions are at war with each other.

#7 Islam is the only religion that has to retain its membership by formally threatening to kill anyone who leaves. This is according to the example set by Muhammad.

#8 Islam teaches that non-Muslims are less than fully human. Muhammad said that Muslims can be put to death for murder, but that a Muslim could never be put to death for killing a non-Muslim.

    #9

The Qur’an never once speaks of Allah’s love for non-Muslims, but it speaks of Allah’s cruelty toward and hatred of non-Muslims more than 500 times.

  4. Report: EU Government ‘Believes Obama Is Quite Mentally Unwell’, Inquires About Impeachment

    http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2015/10/report-eu-government-believes-obama-is-quite-mentally-unwell-inquires-about-impeachment/
A senior diplomat with a European Union government allegedly told former NSA intelligence analyst and counterintelligence officer and Daily Beast columnist John Schindler that his/her government believes President Barack Obama is ‘quite mentally unwell’ and inquired about impeachment–an apparent suggestion that his/her government believes Obama is unfit to serve as president and should be removed from office–according to a tweet by Schindler posted Monday.

Had a senior EU diplomat, old friend, ask me today, “How does your impeachment work? My government believes Obama is quite mentally unwell.””

What is striking is that the ‘senior EU diplomat’ said it was the opinion of his/her government, not his/her personal opinion, that Obama was considered a candidate for removal from office for insanity.

The European Union Web site lists the following countries as members. One of these nations apparently believes Obama is “quite mentally unwell”:

  5. Angry Chinese investor stabs asset management firm CEO

Beijing (AFP) – An angry Chinese investor stabbed the chief executive of a troubled asset management company into which he had poured hundreds of thousands of yuan, reports said, highlighting tensions created by the country’s financial turmoil.

Wang Jie remained hospitalised on Wednesday, his company Global Wealth Investment (Beijing) told AFP, after a meeting of investors to discuss losses turned bloody.

The attacker sat next to Wang at the gathering and “pretended that nothing was wrong”, an eyewitness told Chinese financial news outlet Caixin, before suddenly pulling out a knife and stabbing the CEO in the left shoulder, leaving him with a 15 centimetre-long wound.

  6. Russia says its jet neared U.S. aircraft over Syria for identification: TASS

MOSCOW (Reuters) – A Russian fighter jet came into close proximity with a U.S. air force jet over Syria on Oct. 10 to identify it, “not to scare it”, Russia’s state ITAR-TASS news agency quoted the defense ministry as saying on Wednesday.

The ministry said its SU-30CM jet was within 2-3 kilometers of the U.S. plane.

Washington said on Tuesday U.S. and Russian jets came within visual identification range over Syria where the former Cold War foes are carrying out rival bombing campaigns.

  8. Migrants’ rights in short supply in squalid French camp

    http://apnews.myway.com/article/20151014/eu–france-forgotten_migrants-28f398865d.html

PARIS (AP) — They are in the wrong place for the wrong reasons.

Basic rights, and sympathy, are in short supply for thousands of migrants around the northern French city of Calais, even though the travelers — many fleeing wars in Syria, Iraq and elsewhere — live in what may be the European Union’s biggest and most squalid ghetto.

They dream of ending their long journey in Britain by illegally crossing the English Channel, but Britain doesn’t want them and France has been hoping for more than a decade that the migrants would just stop coming.

With the world’s eyes on the more than half-million migrants flooding into Europe this year, France is finally beginning to take notice of the filthy Calais camp and the plight of those forced to bide their time in what they call “the jungle” — a network of makeshift shelters without water or other basic amenities.

Hedge fund mogul George Soros has come under fire in his native Hungary, where politicians have accused him of supporting illegal migration amidst a refugee crisis that’s brought the right-wing government under pressure.

Government representatives including Prime Minister Viktor Orban have slammed Soros in recent weeks for promoting liberal migrant policies and backing a variety of organizations through his pro-democracy charity that have criticized the way Orban’s government has dealt with the crisis.

  10. Israeli military begins deploying in cities to stop attacks

    http://apnews.myway.com/article/20151014/ml-israel-palestinians-c84281e308.html

JERUSALEM (AP) — The Israeli military began deploying hundreds of troops in Israeli cities Wednesday to assist police forces in countering a wave of deadly Palestinian shooting and stabbing attacks that have created panic across the country.

The military’s deployment of six companies marks the first implementation of measures by Israel’s security cabinet to counter the attacks that have intensified dramatically in recent days. The cabinet met late into the night and announced steps early Wednesday that included allowing police to seal off points of friction or incitement. Many of the recent attackers have come from Arab areas of Jerusalem, prompting calls to seal off those neighborhoods to contain potential attackers.

The cabinet also decided to strip residency rights and demolish homes of some attackers and draft hundreds more security guards to secure public transport.

Israeli police said 300 soldiers had already been incorporated into their deployment on the streets.

  14. Reuters -Turkey suspends Ankara police, intelligence, security chiefs after bombing

The Turkish interior ministry said it had removed the Ankara’s police, intelligence and security chiefs from their posts in an effort to help the investigation into Saturday’s bombings that killed 97 people.

The twin suicide bombings targeting a rally of pro-Kurdish activists and civic groups sparked anger from government opponents who condemn it for failing to prevent the worst attack of its kind on Turkish soil. Others accuse the government of complicity.

“In order to run a healthy investigation into the abominable terrorist attack… and in line with the requests from chief civil and police inspectors, Ankara’s provincial police chief, intelligence department chief and security department chiefs have been removed from duty,” a statement on the ministry’s website said late on Tuesday. The statement did not say if the officials would to return to their posts after the investigation.

The announcement came hours after President Tayyip Erdogan admitted that there had been an intelligence failure which he said would be probed in investigations.

On Tuesday, protesters in trade union-organised rallies were not permitted by the Istanbul governorship to march to Beyazit Square on security concerns.

At Sirkeci train station the protesters held a sit-in at which lawmakers made speeches, while at Cerapasa Hospital there were tensions with police blocking people from marching.

The possibility that a group known to the authorities carried out Saturday’s attack has heaped pressure on the government, already under fire from opponents for failing to give more transparent information on its investigations into bombings in Diyarbakir and Suruc earlier this year.

Four people were killed in the bombing of a Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) rally in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir on the eve of June elections. In July Suruc a suicide bombing blamed on Islamic State in Suruc near the Syrian border killed 33 mostly young pro-Kurdish activists.

  15. AP – Little US protection anticipated for Syrian rebels

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Russian military intervention to prop up Syria’s government has brought new scrutiny of the CIA’s secret support to Syrian rebels fighting Bashar Assad. But how far is the U.S. willing to go to empower its proxies to take on Vladimir Putin’s allies?

The answer seems to be: not very far.

“Countering Russia’s involvement in Syria doesn’t rate nearly as high on the scale” as battling the Islamic State, which has declared a caliphate across parts of Syria and Iraq, White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters Tuesday.

After the CIA spent more than two years secretly working with Arab allies to arm, train and fund thousands of so-called moderate rebels to oppose Assad, American officials have watched in recent days as Russian bombs and missiles have targeted those groups.

U.S. officials and outside experts say the Obama administration is unlikely to protect CIA-backed rebels from Russian air strikes – by providing them with surface-to-air missiles, for example – for fear they could fall into the wrong hands and be used against passenger jets in a terrorist attack. There is also little appetite in the White House for a U.S.-enforced no-fly zone in Syria, officials say.

Instead, the U.S. has been continuing its delivery to rebels of American-made TOW anti-tank missiles. Rebels have deployed the missiles to great effect over the last six months, and even more so in the last week, destroying dozens of Russian-made Syrian armored vehicles.

The CIA requires the vetted rebel groups it supports to take a video of every use of a TOW missile and to send the empty canisters back to American operatives in Turkey, according to Charles Lister, a Syrian expert at the Brookings Doha Center, a U.S. think tank branch in Qatar. A U.S. official confirmed the arrangement, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

The TOWs have “some potential if they can put enough in and the rebels are clever,” said Jeffrey White, a former Defense Intelligence Agency analyst now at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

“They can cause the regime forces to either fail or have a difficult time making advances. That’s at least indirect pressure on the Russians to either stop or do more.”

But TOW missiles aren’t designed to shoot down Russian jets and helicopters. And if Russian air power continues to blast away at CIA-trained rebels, a chilling message will be sent, White said.

“We’ve aligned ourselves to these guys, we trained them and paid them and sent them off to battle, and when the going gets tough, we’re not there.”

President Barack Obama has not spoken about the CIA program publicly, but he has said that Russia risks slipping into a quagmire in Syria and is operating from a position of weakness.

Obama also faces a vexing dilemma. On the one hand, the chief American goal in Syria is to destroy the Islamic State, an extremist army with billions of dollars at its disposal. Yet American officials also believe that getting Assad out of Syria is a key precursor to defeating the Islamic State movement, which is driven in part by Sunni disaffection with the Alawite governing class. And the Russians are working to keep Assad in power.

The CIA effort, which has trained and funded as many as 10,000 Syrian rebels over the last two years, is separate from the failed Defense Department training program that the Pentagon ended last week. The Pentagon program required fighters to promise to take on only the Islamic State, not the Syrian government, and managed to put into action fewer than 80 men.

Technically secret, the CIA program funnels money, weapons and training to so-called moderate rebels who are fighting Assad. After some early failures, the CIA-backed rebels began over the summer to put serious pressure on the Assad government, U.S. officials say, though Lister and other analysts say extremist militias were key to those engagements.

The relationship between the CIA-backed rebels and extremists has been an ongoing point of controversy. Some lawmakers who have been briefed on the program are deeply concerned about whether the CIA can control the militants and keep track of the weapons it is providing.

More than 550 TOW missiles have been provided to the rebels, Lister said, citing rebel sources who track the shipments. But only four are known to have gotten into the hands of al Qaida fighters, he added.

If the Assad government ultimately collapses, the U.S. will need allies amid what will likely be a protracted struggle for power in that country, White said. Terrorism concerns should not prevent American engagement with anti-Assad rebels.

“If we don’t have somebody there now that is beholden to the United States,” he said, “then we’re going to have nobody in that post Assad game.”

  16. Letter From Europe to USA: Do Not Take Refugees!

    Dear North Americans

Rumors have reached Europe that you are about to repeat our mistake of taking in tens of thousands of refugees from the Third World. Having seen my country and my continent radically changed during the last decades as a result of such immigration, here is a friendly, but serious warning.

First I want to stress that taking Third World refugees to the West is not the most compassionate reaction to war and unrest in the Middle East and Africa. Helping people to a life in safety inside a culture, language area, and climate they feel home in – their own geographic region – is much cheaper, and we can thus help more people. On top, we will avoid exposing our own citizens to often criminal and violent individuals, of whom many have radical, religious views. We have an obligation as humanists to help people in mortal danger, but when a culture breaks down, merely fleeing from a dangerous situation does not entitle one to Western standards of living. And we can give safety, medical help, and education to dozens of people within their own environment for the money it costs to maintain a single refugee in the West.

This is not just my own opinion: All parties in Europe promoting such arguments against taking in refugees are rising in the polls.

  17. Orwellians Amongst Us

    http://www.rightsidenews.com/editorial/us-opinion-and-editorial/orwellians-amongst-us/

    Nelson Hultberg

In the early days of man’s history, tyranny was ideologically crude and built upon openly seizing power and suppression of the people. Not a lot of fancy theories were trotted out to justify it. Men like Akhenaten, Attila, Genghis Khan, Henry VIII, and Cesare Borgia ruled because they were brazen enough to want to rule, strong enough to recruit the needed henchmen, and smart enough to know that most people would let them be dictatorial.

But with the coming of modernity (circa 1800 A.D.), tyranny has had to take on a more subtle and sophisticated approach. It now needs to make use of perpetual propagandists and obfuscators to sell enslavement to the people via clever sophistry. Today’s schools are the predominant propagandists for despotism, and next in line are the media who play the role of “Praetorian Guard” for the educational Orwellians that dominate our children.

Truth and the requisites of freedom must always be hidden from the people if tyranny is to prevail. Thus the Orwellians of the media must always be ready to suppress any truths that might threaten the collectivist zeitgeist that has been constructed. Examples of this suppression are rife throughout the television and Hollywood milieus. Recently a blatant example leaped off the TV screen at me.

    Saving the Republic

The movie, Gladiator, with Russell Crowe was playing on TBS. I saw it back in 2000 when it played in the theaters, but thought I’d tune in again for the first part because there is a very inspiring scene in it where the emperor, Marcus Aurelius (played by Richard Harris), is in his last few months of life. He knows he’s dying, and he is trying to convince his trusted confidante and top general, Maximus (played by Russell Crowe), to assume leadership of Rome after he dies. He tells Maximus that he will pass the mantle on to him authorizing that he be his heir and become the new Caesar. He goes into an eloquent speech about why Maximus is the only one for the job. Maximus resists, but says he will consider it. And as they are parting, Aurelius calls after him that his duty is to accept his destiny, for free Rome is dying and needs men of his gallantry. Aurelius shouts to him: “You must save the Republic, Maximus! Go back to the Republic! Promise me that you will restore the Republic.”

Those three sentences are so powerfully relevant to us today, for, of course, we need to do exactly the same thing – go back to the republic. Our once free America is dying from the same dictatorial corruption that stultified and destroyed Rome, the same bread and circuses, the same massive welfarism, cronyism, privileges, and monetary debasement.

Their anger reached a peak this week after a prisoner who had been granted a temporary out-of-jail permit seriously wounded a policeman in an exchange of fire on the northern edge of Paris.

There have been several instances of prisoners escaping while on prison leave in recent weeks, including a convict who was allowed to go on a mountain-biking trip with other prisoners.

Another man, in prison for rape, escaped while on a leave of absence and went on to rape and stab a hiker in the eastern Alsace region.

The protests come nine months after the French police force was praised for hunting down the three gunmen who killed 17 people, including staff of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. Three of the dead were police officers.

“The police, heroes in January, have been forgotten,” police union spokesman Jean-Claude Delage was quoted by the AFP news agency as saying…..”

He stopped eating on Oct. 6.

The ECHR’s ruling came after Hayrullah Akkoyunlu, a Turkish soldier who was serving in the southeastern province of ??rnak in 2001, filed a complaint with the ECHR over allegations that he had lost the sight in his left eye during his military service due to delays in access to medical care.

The ECHR said in a press release on Oct. 13 that it had concluded that Turkey had violated Article 3 – the prohibition of inhuman or degrading treatment – and fined the country 66,000 euros for pecuniary and 15,000 euros for non-pecuniary damages, respectively…”

“NATO Secretary-general Jens Stoltenberg on Oct. 12 urged Turkey to be “proportionate” in the way it responded to terrorist attacks even though it had suffered from crises in the Middle East more than any other NATO member.

Speaking in Norway after a twin suicide bombing in the Turkish capital Ankara which killed at least 97 people, Stoltenberg said: “They (Turkey) have seen several terrorist attacks. They have the right to defend themselves, but I of course expect Turkey to be proportionate in the way they respond.””

  33. Muslim woman doused in alcohol in UK (tribune, Oct 14, 2015)
    http://tribune.com.pk/story/972637/muslim-woman-doused-in-alcohol-in-uk/

“A Muslim woman was showered in alcohol in a violent attack on a train in the UK as other passengers silently watched on, researchers have revealed.

“A group of men waved alcoholic drinks in my face, asking me if I wanted some. They continued to chant ‘we are racist, we are racist and we love it’ and asked me if I ate bacon and had a bomb under my scarf,” Hira, the woman involved in the train attack, said.

“They started chanting. I asked the person abusing me to stop but he wouldn’t. Then they dropped alcohol on my coat … People were watching but they ignored it. No one wanted to help,” she added.

The incident was one of many hate crimes on Muslims uncovered in a study conducted by by criminologists Imran Awan of Birmingham City University and Dr Irene Zempi of Nottingham Trent University. The report was commissioned by Tell MAMA (Measuring Anti-Muslim Attacks).

Awan and Zempi’s research, which is believed to be the first study of its kind, carried out in-depth interviews with victims. Their study revealed that Muslims were multiple and repeat victims of both online and offline forms of hate crime but that many of them were reluctant to report these incidents and often received little support from witnesses.

Many Muslim women also said they were now removing their headscarves and men were shaving their beards in an attempt to disguise their faith.

Another woman Sarah, who converted to Islam, said she received abuse after the media began showing news about the Islamic State.

“When I became identifiably Muslim, I got nasty looks, threats and abuse, and that’s an everyday experience, especially because I am a white British Muslim. When I suffer abuse in public, people walk off or stare … I was on my way to the shops and people shouted at me, ‘why don’t we chop your head off?’… Anti-Muslim hate is normal,” she revealed.

The researchers also highlighted another incident concerning a midwife Asma who quit her job after being abused by her patients. “I was on a maternity ward and one of my patients, during a nightshift, was in labour. When she saw me with my hijab, she swore at me. She shouted, ‘I don’t want my baby to see your terrorist face. I don’t want my child to come to this world and see someone like you, a terrorist. Leave my country! How dare you come to my ward and show your ugly face.’ I then left my job as a midwife as I felt a lot of people hate me.”

Further, Awan said the research revealed worrying levels of fear and intimidation by many Muslims, compounded by a lack of support from the wider public when facing physical threats in the real world and an absence of tough action from social media platforms at the abuse people are receiving online.

“Participants argued that anti-Muslim hate must be challenged from within Muslim communities – too often reluctant to report abuse or attacks – and that the public should intervene and assist victims of anti-Muslim hate where possible,” he added.

Moreover, researcher Zempi said, “Our participants made a number of recommendations for tackling anti-Muslim hate crime. We are determined to work with relevant organisations to ensure that their voices are heard and recommendations implemented.””

  34. Pentagon chief: US not leaving Afghanistan (ahram, Oct 14, 2015)
    http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/2/9/155963/World/International/Pentagon-chief-US-not-leaving-Afghanistan.aspx

“US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter on Wednesday indicated the United States would maintain extra troops in Afghanistan beyond the end of next year.
Under current plans, the United States will draw-down its troop numbers by the end of 2016 from about 10,000 currently to a crew of only about 1,000.

Echoing remarks he made at a NATO meeting in Brussels last week, Carter said it was important for the United States “to formulate options for 2016 and beyond and make adjustments to the planned US presence based on current circumstances.”

The Obama administration has come under criticism for its planned withdrawal of forces, with opponents saying the move opens up Afghanistan to more attacks by the Taliban, who just two weeks ago captured the city of Kunduz.

A swift response by US-trained Afghan security forces led to an eventual Taliban retreat.

“It’s important to say these things because the narrative that we’re leaving Afghanistan is self-defeating,” Carter told an Army conference in Washington.

“We’re not, we can’t, and to do so would not be to take advantage of the success we’ve had to date.”

NATO forces have been in Afghanistan since 2001.

Though the United States represents by far the largest contingent, Carter last week said several NATO defense ministers told him they were open to modifications to current plans.”

  35. Two Egyptians injured in small bomb attacks in Alexandria (ahram, Oct 14, 2015)
    http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/1/64/155910/Egypt/Politics-/Two-Egyptians-injured-in-small-bomb-attacks-in-Ale.aspx

“Two people were injured when a small bomb detonated in Alexandria on Tuesday night, with another small blast causing damages to a train.

The first blast took place in a shop at the Mahatat Misr train station and damaged the window of a train, an interior ministry official announced via Facebook.

The second small blast occurred in front of Bab Sharq police station and injured two civilians, the official added.

Small-scale attacks targetting state-owned buidings or police stations have become commonplace in Egypt since the July 2013 ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.

Last week two people were injured when a small bomb went off near Cairo’s Azbakeya police station. The blast damaged police vehicles parked outside the building.

A similar incident in September injured two policemen outside a foreign ministry building in the Giza district of Agouza.”

  36. ÖiB report: Free media more directly censored in Turkey (todayszaman, Oct 14, 2015)
    http://www.todayszaman.com/national_oib-report-free-media-more-directly-censored-in-turkey_401531.html

“The Press for Freedom (ÖiB) platform has pointed to a more direct censorship of the free media in Turkey in its latest monthly report, mentioning the online TV streaming service Tivibu’s removal of TV channels that are critical of the government.

The ÖiB’s September report states that in addition to social media accounts and official websites of dailies and newspapers being blocked in Turkey, censorship of the free media reached a new extreme in late September when the Tivibu media platform cut off broadcasting for Bugün, Samanyolu Haber and Mehtap TV channels without any justification.

Although it is unmentioned in ÖiB’s September report, Turkey’s largest satellite TV subscription service, Digitürk, followed in Tivibu’s footsteps on Oct. 8 and halted the broadcasts of seven TV channels that are known for their critical stance towards the government.

What many perceive as the government’s relentless pressure and censorship of critical media outlets only several weeks ahead of the snap election on Nov. 1 has sparked strong criticism among a large number of local and international politicians, civil society organizations and media members who are expressing their concerns.

The ÖiB platform, a Turkish Journalists’ Association (TGC) project funded by the European Union as part of its Civil Society Facility Turkey Program, prepares monthly reports to document violations of freedom of the press as well as freedom of expression…”
