  1. Manchester girl, 16, pleads guilty to terror charges (BBC, Aug 26, 2015)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-34062688

“A teenage girl has pleaded guilty to two terror offences including possessing “recipes for explosives” and a bomb-making guide. The 16-year-old, from Manchester, admitted the charges at the city’s Magistrates’ Court. She was arrested in April following an investigation by the North West Counter Terrorism Unit. The inquiry also led to the arrest of a boy, 14, who admitted involvement in a plot to attack police in Australia.

The court heard that phone data retrieved by police showed the pair exchanged more than 2,000 WhatsApp messages a day before being arrested. No evidence was found that the girl was aware or played any part in the Anzac Day plot or any plan to harm others or incite terrorism in the UK or elsewhere, the court was told.

The girl, who cannot be named, admitted two counts of possessing a document containing information of a kind likely to be of use to a person preparing or committing an act of terrorism. She used her school’s IT system to search for information on Jihadi John, the so-called Islamic State (IS) group and images of Michael Adebolajo, who killed Fusilier Lee Rigby in Woolwich in 2013.

Analysis of her mobile phone found instructions for producing a timed circuit, a document about DIY bomb-making and the Anarchist Cookbook 2000. The girl also had images of guns, knives and grenades. Photos of a dead child and an execution were also recovered, the court heard.

The judge warned her that his sentencing options would include “immediate custody”. She was bailed until sentencing on 15 October. Her bail conditions include ban on travel outside England and Wales, and on applying for travel documents.”

Because the South China Sea is named after them China is trying to assert control over all of the islands and over who enters that region and when. Never forget that China is a oligarchy that wants to control all of the land surrounding China and all of the land surrounding that land. Also remember that during bad economic times Dictators and Oligarchies often look to foreign adventures to take their peoples minds off of the government failures and as sources of funds as they loot the conquered territory. Another think to remember is that we are seeing the reemergence of old Empires and people trying to expand the same old ones.

We are seeing the reemergence of the Caliphate and the Persian Empire (under the guise of a new caliphate controlled by Iran) Putin is trying to recreate the full Russian Empire (probably to include the portions of Eastern Europe that the USSR added to that Empire) and we are seeing the Chinese expanding their Empire. They have been doing this since the communist took over and

    • show no signs of changing this policy. To an extent this new jockying for international dominance and for new territory are a result of the left working so hard to destroy the West and any capabilities we have for projecting force and protecting our foreign interests as well as our homelands.

This article is about the growing threat from the new generations of Chinese nuclear weapons and the lefts ignoring the potential for massive damage to the US and Canada. It also mentions the double standard of how the left thinks about the US nuclear weapons and how they look on the weapons in the hands of wanna be world conquerors.

  4. USA: Jewish protesters march in solidarity with Gaza in New York

Around 300 activists from the human rights group Jewish Voices for Peace marched through New York on Thursday, to mark the one year anniversary of Israel’s war on Gaza. The activists were demanding Israel end the ongoing blockade on Gaza and that America stop providing material support to Israel. Member of Jewish Voices for Peace Lana Povitz said she was demonstrating in the US because “a lot of what Israel is able to do is able to do because America supports it.”

  5. Russia may sell submarines to Morocco – with Saudi help

Moscow and Rabat may sign an agreement on the supply of the Amur-1650 submarine to Morocco during the visit of King Mohammed VI to Russia later in the year – and Riyadh may be footing the bill.

    Arms race with Algeria

One of the reasons for Morocco’s determination to modernize its navy is the arms race with main regional rival Algeria, which already has two Varshavyanka Project 636 submarines, two Paltus Project 877 submarines and by 2017 is supposed to receive two more Varshavyankas. Morocco needs a capable underwater force in order to be able to compete with Algeria.

[…]Another significant aspect to the possible Russian-Morocco deal is the drastic deterioration of Algerian-Saudi relations, brought about by Algeria’s refusal to support the Saudi operation against Houthi rebels in Yemen. Riyadh has even openly accused Algeria of supporting international terrorism.

  6. Jailed ISIS suspects recruited by Minnesotans

Seven men now in jail pending trial on charges that they attempted to join ISIS were inspired and guided by Minnesotans who had joined militant groups in the Middle East and Somalia, prosecutors said Friday.

In a court document, prosecutors alleged that the defendants used the Internet to access ISIS propaganda and communicate with foreign fighters in Somalia and Syria.

[…]In April, FBI agents arrested six of the seven men in multiple operations in Minneapolis and San Diego following a 10-month investigation. The seventh man, Hamza Ahmed, was arrested last November.

[…]The documents also reveal that, in the weeks leading up to their attempted April departures, the seven men allegedly expressed their desire to die in the battlefields of Syria to become martyrs.

[…]Court documents say that previous hearings were chaotic, the gallery packed with spectators — some of whom refused to follow simple courtroom decorum.

“Fist-pumping salutes have been exchanged between the defendants in the well of the courtroom and members of the public in the gallery,” the documents said.

  7. Iraq conflict: Bomb kills two generals near Ramadi (BBC, Aug 27, 2015)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-34071169

“A suicide bombing by so-called Islamic State militants the Iraqi city of Ramadi has killed two army commanders and three other people, officials say.

Gen Abdel Rahman Abu Ragheef was deputy commander of operations in the strategically important province of Anbar, while Brig Safeen Abdel Majeed was a divisional commander.

Islamic State (IS) controls Ramadi, 100km (60 miles) west of Baghdad.

An Iraqi offensive to recapture the city has been making slow progress.

The bombing happened in the Jerayshi area.

The bomb went off as the army intercepted an explosives-laden vehicle which they believed was targeting them, Brig Gen Yahya Rasool told state TV.

At least 10 others were wounded in the blast, he said. IS said it had carried out the attack….”

  8. FBI tells art dealers to watch for antiquities looted by ISIS (CNN, Aug 27, 2015)
    http://edition.cnn.com/2015/08/27/politics/fbi-isis-antiquities-art-dealers/index.html

“The FBI is asking art collectors and dealers to be on the lookout for antiquities that could have been put on the market by the terrorist group ISIS, which has been plundering and destroying archaeological sites in Syria and Iraq.

In an alert published Thursday, the FBI said the art community should try to stop the artifacts from being bought and sold, otherwise the proceeds could support terrorism.

“We now have credible reports that U.S. persons have been offered cultural property that appears to have been removed from Syria and Iraq recently,” Bonnie Magness-Gardiner, manager of the FBI’s Art Theft Program, said in a statement.

The one-pager distributed by the FBI urges dealers and collectors to be cautious when buying artifacts from the Syria and Iraq region, that purchasing something looted by ISIS could be a federal crime, and that “robust due diligence is necessary when purchasing any Syrian or Iraqi antiquities or other cultural property.”

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/us-strikes-southern-afghan-district-seized-taliban-33363605

“U.S. forces have launched airstrikes on a district in southern Afghanistan seized by the Taliban the day before.

Afghan army Brig. Gen. Mohammad Rasool Zaizai says NATO and Afghan warplanes struck the army and police headquarters in the Musa Qala district in Helmand province Thursday, likely killing fighters and civilians.

He says it is not possible to confirm casualty figures because insurgents control the area.

Col. Brian Tribus, a spokesman for U.S. forces in Afghanistan, says “U.S. Forces conducted airstrikes in Musa Qala today against individuals threatening coalition and Afghan forces,” without providing further details.

Taliban spokesman Qari Yousef says 30 civilians and 10 fighters were killed, but the Taliban often provide unreliable figures. Taliban insurgents overran Musa Qala on Wednesday after a weeklong assault on Afghan security forces.”

“ISIS militants have overrun a handful of Syrian villages near the border with Turkey and threatened to drive U.S-backed rebels out of a key nearby city, activists and a rebel commander said on Thursday.

The five villages near the town of Marea, which is around 20 miles from both Aleppo and the Turkish border, were taken after furious overnight battles between the extremists and Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters, a rebel leader told NBC News.

“Fighting started yesterday night … and the rebels had to withdraw,” FSA commander Basam Mustafa said. “ISIS fighters were many more than us and they had enough weapons to win the battle. They were also very well organized compared to us.”

Marea is currently in FSA hands….”

  11. Clashes in Central African Republic force thousands to seek refuge at UN peacekeeping base
    http://www.un.org/apps/news/story.asp?NewsID=51740#.Vd97KPZsGko

“27 August 2015 – Clashes between rival militias in the past few days have forced several thousand people to flee their homes in the Central African Republic (CAR) town of Bambari and seek shelter at a former cotton factory inside the compound of the United Nations peacekeeping mission, the UN refugee agency said today.

“We are extremely concerned by the mounting violence in Bambari and its impact on the civilian population. Our staff have reported the displacement of people who are extremely frightened,” Kouassi Lazare Etien, the Representative of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in CAR, said in a press release.

Mr. Etien said that the agency was also worried about hundreds of Sudanese refugees “trapped in a refugee camp [near Bambari] and at high risk of attacks.” The road leading to the camp had been inaccessible since the weekend, but a UNHCR team escorted by UN peacekeepers reached the Sudanese refugee camp on Wednesday.

“Fresh fighting between rival militia forces erupted on August 20 and triggered new waves of displacement,” the refugee agency reported.

“A spontaneous IDP [internally displaced persons] site had sprung up inside the Bambari compound of the UN peace-keeping force,” the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in CAR (MINUSCA), according to the refugee agency.

UNHCR staff said the agency’s partner, the National Refugee Commission, had registered about 3,000 displaced persons in the MINUSCA compound as of Tuesday.

“But conditions are dire at the site, a former cotton factory with no sanitation facilities and limited access to water and shelter,” the agency said.

The situation began to ease on Thursday but UNHCR staff say Bambari remains very tense and they fear the situation could deteriorate again….”

French Police Dismantle Roma Camp on Paris Outskirts (abcnews, Aug 27, 2015)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/french-police-dismantle-roma-camp-paris-outskirts-33354924

“Police, working swiftly in the pouring rain, cleared out one of France’s biggest and oldest Roma camps on Thursday, dismantling a sprawling network of makeshift shelters that housed hundreds of people.

After the 2½-hour-long evacuation, some 50 people milled about on the streets of La Courneuve, despite official promises that no one would be left in the streets.

Hugues Besancenot, secretary general of the prefecture of the Seine-Saint-Denis region northeast of Paris, said around 60 pregnant women, young children and disabled camp residents received vouchers for urgent housing. The others were given a homeless shelter hotline.

About 200 people had been living in the camp, which sprang up in 2009, he said. However, associations put the number at about 300, noting that not all are present year-round.

“They did nothing for us. They said there’s no place for me,” said Brindus Dan, who lived in the camp with his wife and three children, including a 6-month-old baby, for four years.

Residents had six months to prepare for the evacuation since a court ordered the camp shut last February. Police gave a final warning Tuesday, Besancenot said. Riot police lined the street leading to the camp, blocking the demolition of the shantytown from the public.

About 50 people, including mothers with infants, stood dazed and drenched on a nearby sidewalk, or under the awning of a closed cafe. One family of eight, with an infant in a stroller, echoed Dan’s assertion that no one offered them help.

“For them to end up on the sidewalk, under the rain, will not help change the situation,” said Livia Otal, Doctors of the World coordinator for shantytowns. “To be here today, does not mean that in the next two or three weeks they will not be starting over in another slum.”

About 20,000 Roma, also known as Gypsies, live in shantytowns around France, according to Manon Fillonneau of the Romeurope Collective.

About 4,000 to 5,000 Roma lived in 30 camps for the last 10 years — with some 20 of them evacuated, according to the mayor’s office.

Roma face routine discrimination and evacuations, with expulsions in recent months in about 30 shantytowns, including in July in the town of Chelles, east of Paris where some 500 people lost their homes, Fillonneau said.

Their camps tend to lack water and electricity, and authorities often cite sanitary reasons for dismantling them.

Authorities reserved 12 lodgings for residents in extreme need.

A statement from La Courneuve Mayor Gilles Poux, who pressed for the camp’s closure in 2013, said no “human, durable response to the distress of these Roma families” has been forthcoming from French or European authorities, even though Roma are from European Union countries, mainly Romania. He is seeking a “veritable effort of solidarity” organized by the state to share the burden.”

“Sweden’s famously gender equal capital is now planning to spend millions of kronor on lessons to teach ‘LGBT-awareness’ to schoolchildren.

The city of Stockholm has announced that it has earmarked eight million kronor ($950,000) to fund the special lessons in primary and high schools in a move to promote and broaden the acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender pupils.

“LGBT students are subject to more violence and threats (than other students) and they suffer more from health problems so it’s important that we deal with these issues at school,” Gita Nabavi, a spokeswoman for Sweden’s feminist party Feministiskt Initiativ which has led the initiative, told public broadcaster SVT.

The programme, which is part of push to increase the awareness of human rights, is due to start in 2016….”

    http://www.thelocal.se/20150827/swedes-rescue-600-migrants-as-52-deaths-confirmed

“A Swedish coastguard ship carrying more than 600 migrants plucked from boats drifting off Libya’s coast was to dock in Palermo late on Thursday, Swedish officials said. But 52 of those on board are understood to be dead.

The Swedish ship Poseidon rescued 130 people from a rubber dinghy and another 442 people from a wooden boat found drifting off the Libyan coast on Thursday. Fifty-two people were found dead in the hold of the wooden boat.

The number of dead has varied in reports – with initial estimates putting the figure at 40 – and the Swedish coastguard said on Friday that difficult conditions had initially made it hard to get an accurate number….”

  16. Swedish man feared dead after joining Isis (thelocal, Aug 27, 2015)
    http://www.thelocal.se/20150827/swedish-man-feared-dead-after-joining-isis

“A man from central Sweden who is believed to have been fighting alongside Isis is reported to have been killed.

The Swede, who is thought to be in his 30s and who had been living in Örebro, is understood to be one of a group of three people from the area known to have travelled to the Middle East to join the radical Islamist group, also known as Isis and IS.

According to Mahdi Warsama, chairman of the African Horn Cultural Centre, the man’s relatives have received information confirming his death.

Sweden’s biggest news agency, TT, reported in June that the trio – two men and a woman – had made multiple attempts to travel to the war-torn region

“I got the information from the parents, they are very worried,” said Warsama at the time. He also told TT that he had personally tried to help stop the youths from becoming jihadists.

Sweden’s Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that it was unable to confirm the man’s death.

“The current conflict makes it almost impossible for us to get confirmation from Syrian authorities, particularly in the cases of people who have taken part in hostilities,” Johan Tegel, a press spokesperson, told TT.

Sweden’s Security Service, Säpo, does not comment on individuals who are suspected of having been killed in fighting.

But the agency has previously said that up to 150 Swedish residents are known to have spent time in Syria or Iraq fighting for Isis or other extremist groups, with intelligence suggesting that at least 40 have died in the process…”

  17. Saudi Arabia sees Mers deaths surge (BBC, Aug 27, 2015)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-34079755

“Saudi Arabia has announced four more deaths from Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (Mers), bringing the number of deaths in the past week to 17.

Health officials admit they are worried by the timing, as the kingdom prepares to welcome around two million Muslims for the Hajj next month.

Mers infections have been recorded in countries across the Middle East, Europe and Asia.
The virus first emerged in Saudi Arabia in 2012.

The World Health Organization (WHO) says many of the recent cases are associated with an outbreak at a hospital in Riyadh.

Mers is caused by a coronavirus, a type of virus which includes the common cold and Sars (severe acute respiratory syndrome).

Globally, at least 515 people have died as a result of Mers since September 2012, according to the WHO…”

    http://edition.cnn.com/2015/08/24/asia/malaysia-mass-grave/index.html

“Malaysian police say another mass grave has been found along its border with Thailand, containing the bodies of 24 people.

The grave was discovered in Bukit Wang Burma, in the Wang Kelian area of Malaysia’s Perlis state on Saturday, according to a Malaysian official.

Autopsies are being carried out on all the remains at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar, Kedah.

It’s feared the bodies are another grim sign of extent of the human trafficking operation that’s been allowed to flourish in the region.

Earlier this year, graves were found on both sides of the Malaysia and Thai borders, in thick jungle near camps that appeared to have been there for some time.

In May, Malaysian authorities found 139 graves near the town of Wang Kelian, and as many as 28 illegal camps.

It’s believed that as many as 300 migrants were held in the camps, which were fortified with fences and sentries built from wood cut from the jungle…”

Thailand has also found a number of camps and graves during a crackdown on people smuggling. Authorities have made a number of arrests, amid questions about how the camps were able to remain undetected for so long.
