  1. Outrage spreads as cities plan Ramadan dinner celebration on 9/11

The Democratic mayors of two Michigan cities plan to celebrate September 11th this year by honoring Sharia and hosting their “9th Annual Ramadan Unity Dinner.”

Ramadan ended in July, but the Islamic Society of Greater Lansing has scheduled its dinner at the city-owned convention center on the very day when 19 Muslim terrorists killed 2,977 innocent victims at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and three crashed airliners, 14 years ago.

In an almost unbelievable act of callousness and dishonor of those victims, Mayors Virg Bernero and Nathan Triplett of Lansing and East Lansing, respectively, will host a dinner themed “Hope, Not Hunger.” The event’s poster features an Islamic crescent and a skyline of mosque-styled buildings.

Adding insult to injury, the cities are sponsoring—with taxpayer dollars—a high school essay contest whose winners will be honored at the dinner and given prizes of up to $500.

The event was tweeted by Twitter user @creepingsharia and picked up by several blogs.

      RESCHEDULED ? –

The cities of Lansing and East Lansing announced today that the ninth annual Ramadan Unity Dinner, co-hosted by Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero and East Lansing Mayor Nathan Triplett, will be rescheduled to Friday, September 18, at 6:30 p.m. at the Lansing Center in downtown Lansing.

After due deliberation, the event organizers have decided that the community’s remembrance of the tragic events of 9-11 and the celebration of diversity and inclusion embodied in the Ramadan Unity Dinner should be held at separate times.

All tickets purchased for the original event date will be honored for the rescheduled date.

  2. Islamic State photos ‘show Palmyra temple destruction’ (BBC, Aug 25, 2015)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-34051870

“Islamic State (IS) has published photos of what appears to be the destruction of the Temple of Baalshamin at the ancient ruins of Palmyra in Syria.

Stills from a video showing militants rigging the temple with explosives and a large explosion were circulated by the jihadist group’s supporters.

Syrian officials and activists said on Monday that it had been blown up. The UN’s cultural organisation said the deliberate destruction of Syria’s cultural heritage was a war crime.

Unesco also expressed outrage at the beheading last week of Khaled al-Asaad, the retired chief archaeologist at Palmyra, who refused to co-operate with IS.

The Temple of Baalshamin was built nearly 2,000 years ago and was considered the second most important structure at Palmyra – the monumental ruins of a great city that was one of the most important cultural centres of the ancient world.

Syria’s director of antiquities, Maamoun Abdul Karim, said IS militants had packed the Graeco-Roman temple with large quantities of explosives and detonated them on Sunday, bringing down the inner sanctum, or cella, and surrounding pillars…”

  3. Germany ‘arson attack’ destroys planned asylum shelter (BBC, Aug 25, 2015)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-34050393

“Police in Germany say a school sports hall intended as a temporary shelter for asylum seekers has burned down in a suspected arson attack.

Investigators believe the fire in Nauen, west of Berlin, was started deliberately. No-one was injured.
Far-right protesters have demonstrated against asylum seekers in the area.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel earlier condemned violent protests at an asylum shelter in the eastern town of Heidenau, near Dresden, at the weekend.

Dozens of police officers were injured in the clashes.

Mrs Merkel has described the behaviour of far-right activists in Heidenau as “abhorrent” and “shameful” and said she would be visiting the town on Wednesday.

Germany expects up to 800,000 people to seek asylum by the end of 2015.

Europe ‘must open official channels for migrants’ (BBC, Aug 25, 2015)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-34049512

“European leaders should do more to open up and help migrants instead of using language that dismisses their rights, a UN expert on migrant rights has said.

Talking about “marauders” and “swarms” was an unsubtle way of dismissing their legitimacy, said Francois Crepeau.

European countries should open official channels and their labour markets to migrants because building fences would not stop them coming, he said.

On Monday, a record number of refugees crossed into Hungary from Serbia.

A total of 2,093 migrants, the highest ever daily total, crossed the border near the town of Roszke, a police statement quoted by AFP news agency said.

Hungary, a European Union member, is erecting a fence to keep out the migrants, with 110km (68 miles) of the 175km fence now in place.

Many of those reaching Hungary are Syrians and Afghans who cross from Turkey to Greece and then make their way northwards.

Lesvos is one of the Greek islands that has been overwhelmed by those arriving, often packed on to flimsy vessels.

Greece’s coastguard said on Monday that it had recovered the bodies of two migrants who drowned when their boat sank, while another five were still missing.

More than 33,000 people have landed on Lesvos this month and face “squalid” conditions because of shortages, Amnesty International has said.

Mr Crepeau, the UN special rapporteur on the human rights of migrants, called on the EU to create a “coherent and comprehensive migration policy”, making “mobility its central asset”.

“Let’s not pretend that what the EU and its member states are doing is working. Migration is here to stay,” he said in a statement.

“Building fences, using tear gas and other forms of violence against migrants and asylum seekers, detention, withholding access to basics such as shelter, food or water and using threatening language or hateful speech will not stop migrants from coming, or trying to come, to Europe.”

There was also an urgent need to create a resettlement programme for 1.5m to 2m refugees, like Syrians and Eritreans, over the next five years, he added….”

“Fourteen people have been detained in Morocco and Spain on suspicion of recruiting people to fight for ISIS in Syria and Iraq, the Spanish Interior Ministry said.

The suspects were arrested in a town outside Madrid and in several locations in Morocco — Fez, Casablanca, Nador, Al Hoceima and Driouech — during a joint operation between the two countries, the ministry said in a statement Tuesday.

They are accused of being part of a network that recruited and sent foreign fighters to join the ranks of ISIS, it said.

  10. Suspect ‘looked at jihadist video’ before France train attack

The suspect in the attack on a high-speed train in France looked at an online video of jihadist songs on his mobile phone shortly before boarding, a source in the investigation said on Tuesday.

Ayoub El Khazzani “looked at this video between the time that he bought his ticket and the time he boarded the train” a few hours later, the source said.

He was initially thought to be carrying two phones, but the source said he was actually only in possession of one mobile phone, which had been activated on the morning of the attack.

Khazzani, 25, boarded the high-speed train in Brussels on Friday armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle, a Luger automatic pistol, ammunition and a box-cutter.

He is being questioned by anti-terror investigators, who have until Tuesday evening to charge or release him, though he insists he had only been seeking to rob passengers.

  11. Germany opens its gates: Berlin says all Syrian asylum-seekers are welcome to remain, as Britain is urged to make a ‘similar statement’

Berlin took the lead in efforts to resolve the European refugee crisis yesterday by declaring all Syrian asylum-seekers welcome to remain in Germany – no matter which EU country they had first entered.

Germany, which expects to take a staggering 800,000 migrants this year, became the first EU country to suspend a 1990 protocol which forces refugees to seek asylum in the first European country in which they set foot.

The German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees ratified an order suspending the so-called Dublin Protocol. “Germany will become the member state responsible for processing their claims,” a government statement said.

All current expulsion orders for Syrian asylum-seekers will be revoked, the government said. New Syrian arrivals will no longer be forced to fill in questionnaires to determine which country they had first arrived in. In the first six months of 2015, Germany registered 44,417 applications from Syrian asylum-seekers.

The decision piles further pressure on other EU countries – including Britain – which have used the 1990 protocol as the legal basis for refusing to take any share of the refugees from the Middle East and Africa now pouring into Europe to escape war, oppression or famine.

The decision came as Chancellor Angela Merkel and the French President, François Hollande, held talks in Berlin to try to come up with solutions to the worst European refugee crisis since the immediate aftermath of the Second World War.

They appealed last night for the creation of a new, Europe-wide asylum policy, in which all 28 EU countries would be expected to take part. Ms Merkel spoke of an “exceptional situation” which “is not going to end soon.”

Germany’s policy change was also a direct snub to a series of far-right demonstrations against refugees in eastern Germany at the weekend. Ms Merkel said that demonstrations in the town of Heidenau, were “vile”.

Her spokesman said: “Germany is a compassionate country and will not allow refugees to be met here by hateful slogans or alcohol-fuelled loudmouths.”

He said all asylum-seekers deserved to be treated with “dignity and respect”. Tensions remain high, however. The far-right is planning another demonstration this weekend in the Harz Mountain town of Goslar. The mayor of the town, Oliver Junk, has said that he welcomed refugees with “open arms” because of the diminishing local birthrate and an exodus of young people.

The German decision to declare open house for Syrian refugees was welcomed by refugee support groups in Britain as a lesson that the Government should follow.

The Refugee Council’s advocacy manager, Anna Musgrave, said: “This announcement from Germany is very significant… It’s high time the British Government made a similar statement.

“So far our Government has been trying its best to prevent refugees from reaching our shores; pulling up the drawbridge and forcing people to place their lives in smugglers’ hands. That’s simply not good enough.”

The Austrian Foreign Minister, Sebastian Kurz, said yesterday that the Dublin agreement “no longer works” after visiting Macedonia. The Balkans are “overrun and overwhelmed”, he said. “The Dublin system doesn’t only work terribly, it actually doesn’t work at all any more,” he said.

In a fiercely worded opinion article in German and French newspapers, the European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker, yesterday accused most EU governments of political cowardice.

“What we need, and what we are sadly still lacking, is the collective courage to follow through on our commitments even when they are not easy; even when they are not popular,” he wrote in Die Welt and Le Figaro. “Instead what I see is finger-pointing – a tired blame game which… is not actually solving any problems.”

The Merkel-Hollande talks in Berlin came as the Europe-wide migration crisis entered an intense new phase. At least 2,000 Middle Eastern and African migrants, including many women and children, entered Serbia en masse from Macedonia on Sunday night.

The EU border agency, Frontex said this week that a record 107,000 migrants arrived at European land and sea borders last month. More than 20,000 people arrived in Greece alone.

Many migrants in Greece sought to travel onwards to Macedonia last week en route for northern Europe. Skopje closed its border for three days. Police used stun grenades and batons to keep refugees at bay before standing aside to let everyone enter.

The Italian coastguard rescued 4,400 migrants from 22 boats in the Mediterranean on Saturday – the highest daily figure in years. A detailed European Commission resettlement plan is expected next month. So far Britain has refused to take any of the asylum-seekers reaching southern and eastern Europe.

One subject under discussion was a possible distinction between refugees from areas hit by war and famine and “economic” migrants. EU governments would be allowed to refuse all migrants from, for example, Albania, Serbia and Kosovo but would be expected to deal sympathetically with Syrians, Iraqis and refugees from the Horn of Africa.

US To Accept 8,000 Syrian Refugees After Germany, France Call For Overhaul In EU Asylum System

A U.S. official said Monday that the country would accept around 8,000 Syrian refugees in 2016. The U.N. refugee agency has reportedly referred 15,000 Syrian refugees to the U.S. government.

State Department spokesman John Kirby said that the U.S. was the leading country to accept refugees and contribute financially for resettlement efforts. However, he refused to call it “the metric of success.”

“And so, what we’re really committed to is helping to foster the kind of political transition inside Syria, so that it is a safe environment for Syrian people to return, including the millions that are seeking refuge in Turkey right now,” Al Arabiya quoted Kirby as saying.

Washington said in December that the U.N. had referred 9,000 refugees to the U.S., which agreed to accept up to 2,000 Syrian refugees in 2015. U.S. officials also said that the number would be increased in 2016.

The civil war in Syria has made around four million people homeless since 2011. The U.S. administration has been criticized in the past for not allowing more number of refugees. The U.S., however, has contributed $4 billion since 2011 in humanitarian aid to the people affected by the Syrian civil war.

Germany and France earlier urged to relax European Union rules to allow Syrian refugees. German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande had emergency talks on the migrant crisis in Berlin, and asked for an amendment to the asylum system in the European Union, The Telegraph reported.

According to UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres, there will be 4.27 million Syrian refugees by the end of 2015.

  12. UK – Worker at Bradford mosque in court accused of sexually abusing two young boys

A WORKER at a Bradford mosque is on trial accused of the repeated sexual abuse of two young boys aged nine and 12.

Yasir Muhammed Hafiz denies a total of 16 charges, including nine of sexually assaulting a child under 13 and seven of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Hafiz, 31, of Daleside Walk, West Bowling, Bradford, is alleged to have hugged and tickled the boys in a sexual manner, kissed one of them, and put their hands on his private parts.

Prosecutor Michael Collins told the jury at Bradford Crown Court yesterday that they will hear recorded police interviews with three boys, the two complainants and a third child.

Bearded Hafiz, who teaches the Koran at the Madrassah Nur Qur’an, on Parkside Road, West Bowling, is assisted in the dock by an interpreter because English is not his first language.

Mr Collins said the alleged offences took place between January 1, 2014, and February 13 this year.

The nine-year-old says that Hafiz sexually abused him on five separate occasions.

He told his mother he had done “dirty” things to him.

He alleged Hafiz picked him up, hugged him, gripped him under the arms and kissed him on the cheek.

The child said Hafiz put his hand down his trousers on to his boxer shorts and touched his bottom.

He complained that Hafiz molested him on February 13 and did similar things to him four times before that but only kissed him once.

The boy accused Hafiz of taking his hand and making him touch his private parts over his clothing.

“He tried to resist but his knuckles came into contact with his penis,” Mr Collins said.

He said the abuse lasted about 20 seconds until he was disturbed.

The jury heard that the second boy was 12 at the time.

He alleges he too was picked up by Hafiz and hugged and tickled in a sexual manner.

“He pulled up his top and tickled his torso and back,” Mr Collins said.

Hafiz is also accused of putting the child’s hand between his legs.

The court heard that the younger boy told his mother what was happening. She spoke to the second boy’s mum and her son then also alleged he was being abused.

Hafiz told the police he had carried the boys but he denied any sexual misconduct with them.

Mr Collins said the issues for the jury to decide were if Hafiz had touched the children sexually and had he caused either or both of them to touch him indecently.

The nine-year-old boy said on his video that Hafiz had been “very dirty to me.”

    The trial continues.

  13. Sweden: Woman raped twice – by different men – at different locations – within an hour

During Saturday night, a woman was subjected to an assault rape in Strängnäs.

When she escaped the rape, she was raped again by other men outside an asylum accommodation – all within an hour.

According to the local newspaper Eskilstuna-Kuriren, which refer to “informed sources”, the woman was raped outdoors twice. When she fled after the first rape she was assaulted once again by “other men”, according to the newspaper.

Lars Liwenborg at Sörmland police confirms that the information is correct.

    – I can not reveal more than what Eskilstuna-Kuriren has told. There are two incidents that have been reported, he says.

He would not comment on how many suspected perpetrators there are.

    – I can say that there are two different incidents about one hour apart.

The first rape, according to the woman, occurred at Tosterön. The second rape took place between one o’clock and half past one at Tosteröbron, which leads to the center of Strängnäs.

Nearby there are two asylum accommodations run by Bert Karlsson’s tax-supported asylum companies Jokarjo AB. One of them, Hotell Mälarblick (pictured), is located right next to the crime scene. Whether the accommodations have any connection with the rapes, Lars Liwenborg would not comment on (which is usually a clear indication that it has).

    – Such a question is impossible to answer in the current situation because the investigation has just started.

He would not reveal the descriptions of the perpetrators the woman gave (another clear indication in the shameful political correct country).

    – It is something we will not go out with right now.

During the day police will keep questioning the woman and other people.

    – We have no suspects yet. We have worked on this matter since Sunday and today it is Monday, so we have not yet been able to find any suspects. But we’re working on, says Lars Liwenborg.

And that is why Sweden is the rape capital of Europe, with a staggering 5,000 assault rapes a year (2014).

  14. Abortion opponents post eighth sting video

The latest video from the Center for Medical Progress’s undercover operation features the CEO of a tissue company that used to work with Planned Parenthood clinics as she discusses the possibility of procuring fetal liver tissue.

In the video released Tuesday morning, StemExpress CEO Cate Dyer says that fetal liver tissue is “such an area of demand for us” and refers to “intact cases.” CMP argues that a “case” refers to an abortion, but StemExpress says that characterization is inaccurate. The meeting took place May 22 between StemExpress employees and anti-abortion activists posing as representatives of BioMax, a fake tissue procurement company

Officials at StemExpress, which is based in Placerville, Calif., have denied ever receiving an intact fetus and said the footage has been deceptively edited to suggest otherwise. But amid the furor caused by the string of CMP videos and congressional inquiries about the company’s relationship with Planned Parenthood, StemExpress announced earlier this month that it would cut ties with Planned Parenthood clinics. Both it and Planned Parenthood have denied wrongdoing.

The eighth video comes just days after a California judge dissolved a temporary restraining order that had prohibited the Center for Medical Progresss from releasing any secretly recorded footage of the company’s employees. A preliminary injunction that StemExpress sought was also denied.

In court filings, Dyer had said she feared for the safety of herself, her family and her workers if the anti-abortion group were able to release footage of the company’s employees.

“It is one thing for the public to know the names of the StemExpress employees who participated in the May 22 meeting and to reveal the contents of what we all believed was a private conversation, both of which are wrong, but to have their faces published to the world in the midst of such a highly-charged and volatile public campaign involving a subject that can literally lead to violence is an entirely different concern altogether,” she said.

  16. France sees Assad’s ‘neutralisation’ as pre-condition for peace

French President Francois Hollande said Tuesday that the “neutralisation” of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad was a pre-condition to resolving the crisis in the war-torn country.

“We must reduce the terrorist influence without maintaining Assad. The two are bound up together,” Hollande told a gathering of French diplomats in Paris.

“We must create a political transition in Syria, it’s a necessity.”

He laid out three conditions for resolving the crisis — the first of which was the “neutralisation” of Assad.

The second was to offer “solid guarantees to all the moderate opposition forces, notably the Sunnis and Kurds, and to preserve state structures and the unity of Syria.”

The final condition, which he said would be “decisive”, was to bring together regional actors with a stake in the conflict.

“I’m thinking of the Gulf countries, I’m thinking also of Iran. I’m thinking of Turkey which must get involved in the fight against Daesh (an alternative name for the Islamic State group) and resume the dialogue with the Kurds,” Hollande said.

Syria’s foreign ministry reacted angrily to Hollande’s speech, saying it “constituted a flagrant intrusion in internal affairs and shows that France contributes to the spilling of Syrian blood”.

“The French government should know that as long as it maintains these positions, we will not accept any role for France in a political solution,” the ministry’s statement added.

Hollande said France would continue to support “moderate” members of the Syrian opposition and coalition airstrikes against IS in neighbouring Iraq.

“Terrorism threatens all the actors in the region… and all world powers,” he said. “Resolving the Syrian crisis demands the participation of all, and France is ready to play its part.”
