  5. AFGHANISTAN – Mullah Omar’s son assassinated

Kabul: The son of late Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar has reportedly been killed, sections of the Afghan media reported today.

“Mullah Yaqub, the son of Mullah Omar, was killed a couple of days ago,” the Daily Outlook reported quoting lawmaker Zahir Qadir.

Mullah Yaqub, according to Qadir, had attempted to succeed his father to lead Taliban fighters but was mysteriously assassinated by Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansoor, who has already been appointed by his supporters to lead the Taliban group.

The private television channel Tolo has also reported Mullah Yaqub’s death, also quoting lawmaker Qadir.

Taliban militants have not commented on the report.

Cracks have appeared in the Taliban ranks since the death of their leader Mullah Mohammad Omar which was confirmed by Taliban outfit on Thursday.

Some Taliban senior leaders, including Mullah Hassan Rahmani and Mullah Razaq Akhund, two righthand men of Omar during the Taliban rule, have challenged Mullah Mansoor’s legitimacy to lead the Taliban while Mansoor’s supporters have been lobbying to convince the militants make allegiance to the new leader.

The supporters and opponents of Mullah Mansoor, according to media reports, have fought each other in the northern province of Kunduz and in parts of Herat in the west over the past couple of days.

  6. CAMEROON – Suspected Boko Haram militants kill eight, kidnap 100 in Cameroon

At least eight people were killed and about 100 others were kidnapped by suspected Boko Haram militants in an overnight raid on a village near Cameroon’s northern border, a local government and a military source said.

Tchakarmari, the village targeted early on Tuesday, lies north of Maroua, where dozens of people were killed in a series of suicide bombings by the Nigerian Islamist group last month.

“Residents said the attackers headed back to Nigeria where Cameroon is not allowed to pursue them,” the local government source in the Far North region said.

A senior military officer deployed as part of a Cameroonian military operation aimed at curbing the spillover of violence from Boko Haram’s stronghold in northeastern Nigeria said the attackers had crossed over from Nigeria shortly after midnight.

After the spate of suicide bombings in July, Cameroon’s government announced plans to send an additional 2,000 troops to boost security in the Far North region.

The regional governor has banned burqas since the attacks, which were carried out by veiled female bombers. And over the weekend, authorities rounded up and expelled about 2,800 Nigerians living in Cameroon without the required documents.

Cameroon has already deployed some 7,000 troops as part of a regional force which includes Chad, Niger and Nigeria to try to stop Boko Haram’s six-year insurgency.

Armed attackers from Nigeria kill at least 9, kidnap dozens from border villages in Cameroon

YAOUNDE, Cameroon (AP) — Suspected Boko Haram fighters have killed at least 9 people and kidnapped dozens, including children and teenagers, from Cameroonian villages on the border with Nigeria, a local leader said Tuesday.

Heavily armed attackers came from Nigeria into the villages of Tchakarmari and Kangaleri early in the morning on trucks, said Tchakarmari village chief Kadzamare Amin.

“They burned at least 15 houses and slaughtered six men and three women whose corpses we are still to bury,” he told The Associated Press from the area that is less than 20 kilometers (12 miles) from Nigeria’s Borno State, where Islamic extremist group Boko Haram regularly stages attacks. He said that he saw dozens being taken.

“We are still investigating the authenticity of the report but our soldiers have told us there was an incursion in the area situated 11 kilometers from Mora in Mayo Sava Division,” said Midjiyawa Bakary, governor of the Far North region of Cameroon.

While there was no immediate claim of responsibility, Islamic militants from the Boko Haram group have been blamed for scores of attacks in the region this year.

Boko Haram, which was founded in neighboring Nigeria, has pledged its allegiance to the Islamic State group and has vowed to attack Cameroon because the country has supported the Nigerian military’s mission to defeat Boko Haram.

Troops from Cameroon and Chad are fighting Islamic extremists in several communities on Cameroon’s border with Nigeria. Cameroon has arrested dozens accused of promoting radical ideology and collaborating with Boko Haram.

Cameroon’s government on Tuesday said it has arrested several Boko Haram fighters disguised as refugees with explosives hidden in their luggage. The country has also arrested hundreds of Cameroonians and Nigerians accused of collaborating with Boko Haram, and expelled more than 3,000 Nigerians to rout out fighters.

  7. Tunisia beach massacres ‘linked’ to museum killings

There are “strong” links between June’s Tunisia beach massacre and the killings at the Bardo Museum in the country’s capital in March, British police say.

Metropolitan Police counter-terrorism officers say they are now connecting the two attacks based on evidence.

The Bardo Museum attack saw 22 people killed, while 38 tourists, including 30 British nationals, were killed in the resort of Sousse in June.

Tunisian authorities have arrested 150 people to date over the Sousse attack.

Of those, 15 have been charged with terrorism offences.

Commander Richard Walton, of the Metropolitan Police which supplied officers to help the Tunisian investigation into the massacre, said he would not provide more details of the suspected connection but stated it was based on “strong” evidence.

ITV NEWS – Tunisia beach terror attack linked to museum massacre

[…]”While I cannot go into further details regarding this live investigation, I can confirm that a team of officers, led by a senior detective from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, are working closely with the Tunisian authorities on both investigations and we have advised the coroner of the connection between the two.”

Terror group Islamic State claimed responsibility for the Sousse attack.

Tunisian authorities have now arrested 150 people in relation to the Sousse massacre. Of those, 15 have been charged with terrorism offences.

Those charged face allegations including being involved in a terrorist plot, not informing police of a plan and providing logistical or other support.

A trial in relation to the murders is not expected to take place for up to 18 months.

Scotland Yard detectives are examining more than 370 photos and videos from mobile devices provided by witnesses to the Sousse atrocity.

Mr Walton revealed Rezgui’s body has not been claimed due to the shame his family feel and fear of reprisals if they do so.

  9. US denies pact with Turkey against YPG in ISIL-free zone

The United States denied reports on Aug. 4 that Washington and Ankara had agreed to keep Kurdish fighters out of a proposed zone in northern Syria that will be freed of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

“Details for the effort to clear ISIL from the border remain to be worked out and no parameters have been set,” according to a senior administration official who spoke to Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity.

“We are working with Turkish partners on the next steps and are not going to give out further operational specifics,” the official said.

“We’ve been clear that the coalition will continue to support the efforts of anti-ISIL forces to include Syrian Kurdish, Arab, and Turkoman fighters to drive ISIL out of northern Syria border regions,” the official added.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the U.S. and Turkey agreed to keep the Kurdish People’s Protections Units (YPG) out of a swath of north Syria that ISIL has managed to keep control of, if the group is successfully removed.

State Dept. ‘frankly doesn’t know’ legal authority behind US airstrikes supporting Syrian rebels

he US has been carrying out airstrikes against ISIS in Syria for almost a year, and the latest decision to bomb Syrian government forces in order to “protect” US-trained “moderate rebels” does not require any additional legal justification, the State Department believes.

Since the US-backed rebel groups in Syria are operating in the “lawless area” of the country, they are under the pressure from “a lot of different forces,” US State Department deputy spokesperson Mark Toner told RT’s Gayane Chichakyan while trying to explain the legal basis for the change in US policy.

“I frankly don’t know what the legal authority is,” Toner said, adding that the situation in Syria remains “complex and fluid.”

He clarified that Washington did not authorize itself to “go after Assad government forces,” insisting that such bombings would take place only in the “hypothetical” case that the US-backed militants would come under fire from Syrian forces

“We’ve been carrying out airstrikes in that region for many months now, almost a year – and the same – in defense of these groups, but also to help them gain territory back from ISIL,” the spokesman stated, referring to Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) by the administration’s standard acronym for the militants.

“Any type of effort to protect them from Syrian forces would be defensive in nature,” he claimed. “But I’m not going to talk about the legal framework for it.”

When pressed to admit that the latest announcement is a major change in US policy in Syria, Toner said he would “respectfully disagree.”

“There’s no change in the legal framework,” he said. “Our main goal is to take the fight against ISIL. Nothing’s changed in that regard.”

The 54-year-old appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court where he denied the allegations against him.

Charges state Meek posted offensive and alarming messages onto his Facebook page stating he would turn up at a mosque in Livingston and burn the Islamic terrorist groups flag during Friday prayers.

  11. Erdogan meets with Crimean Tatar leaders

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has held a meeting with the leaders of Crimean Tatar people. Reception of Mustafa Dzhemilev and Refat Chubarov took place at the highest level, according to Crimean Tatar Mejlis social media page.

Erdogan reassured Crimean Tatars that his country will never recognize the annexation of the Crimea by Russia. He also promised to do everything possible to protect the indigenous people’s rights on the territory of the occupied peninsula.

To combat the repression that is experienced by the Crimean Tatars, the Turkish leader holds talks with all parties of the conflict. He is trying to reach an understanding to put an end to persecution of indigenous Crimeans.

The day before the Second World Congress of the Crimean Tatars ended in Ankara. Five hundred delegates from around the world gathered in Turkey, although representatives of the Mejlis who live in Crimea could not attend due to obstructions from Russian security services.

Erdogan: Turkey will not recognize Crimea’s annexation

MOSCOW — Ankara considers Crimea’s reunification with Russia, as deplorable as repression against the Crimean Tatars in the last century and will not recognize it, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, as quoted in a foreign ministry statement emailed to Sputnik Turkey on Monday.

Crimean Tatars are a Turkic ethnic group that formed in the Crimean Peninsula in the 13-17th centuries. In 1944, Crimean Tatars were expelled to Central Asia under an order of then-Soviet Union leader Joseph Stalin. In the mid-1980s they were allowed to return to the region.

“Turkey did not and will not recognize Crimea’s annexation. Our priority in the Ukrainian crisis is peace, prosperity and security for Crimean Tatars. We are taking every step and conducting all necessary negotiations in order to overcome pressure and difficulties they are facing. You can be sure that we will continue our support,” the address to the Second World Congress of the Crimean Tatars held in Ankara over the weekend reads.

The document said the rights of the Crimea Tatars have been damaged by deportation and repression, labeling the “illegal annexation of Crimea” a similar incident.

Erdogan’s administration told Sputnik it was not aware of Erdogan’s message.

Following a March 2014 referendum, Crimea and its special-status port city of Sevastopol seceded from Ukraine and reunified with Russia.

Apart from accusations of a military annexation, dismissed by the Kremlin, several EU countries blamed Moscow for alleged violation of the rights of Crimean Tatars.

In April 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree rehabilitating those ethnic minorities that suffered during the Stalin era, including Crimean Tatars, Armenians, Greeks and Germans.

    Crimean Muslims to Establish Battalion

CAIRO – Coping with the plight of Russian annexation since early 2014, Crimean Muslims revealed plans to establish a military unit to monitor transportation of goods and people across the border.

“Unfortunately, throughout history, the right of the Crimean Tatar people to live in dignity in their own homeland was undermined with collective deportations and repression. Today we are witnessing the illegal annexation of the Crimea and other regrettable events,” Turkish President Recep Erdogan said after meeting with Crimean leaders, International Business Times reported Monday, August 3.

The announcement of the formation of the Muslim troops came a day after the second annual World Congress of Crimean Tatars which was held July 31 and August 2 in Ankara.

[…]Deployed in the Kherson region on the Crimean border, the Muslim troops aim at monitoring transportation of goods and people between Ukraine and the peninsula, leader of Crimean Tatars, Mustafa Abdülcemil K?r?mo?lu, said.

Kazan Tatars, Uzbeks, Chechens, Azeris, Meskhetian Turks and other Muslim groups will join the Crimean Tatars to form the troops.

[…]Over the past months, hundreds of terrified Muslim Tatar families decided to leave their homes in Crimea, fleeing an ambiguous future under the Russian regime after annexation.

The Tatars, who have inhabited Crimea for centuries, were deported in May 1944 by Stalin, who accused them of collaborating with the Nazis.

  13. INDIA – ‘I came to kill Hindus, it’s fun doing this,’ says captured Pakistan terrorist Naved

Udhampur: “Its fun doing this,” said Naved, a suspected Lashker-e-Toiba militant from Pakistan who was caught alive after the attack on a BSF convoy here on Wednesday that killed two constables.

Naved, who says he hails from Faislabad in Pakistan, claimed before the media that he entered the Jammu region 12 days ago along with a fellow terrorist identified as Momin Khan. Khan was killed in retaliatory fire by BSF.

This is the first suspected Pakistani terrorist to be captured alive after Ajmal Kasab, who was nabbed during the dreaded terror attack in Mumbai in 2008.

“I came to kill Hindus,” said Naved, dressed in a dark blue shirt and brown trousers, with a relaxed demeanour. He also alleged that Kashmiris were being killed all the time.

“It has been 12 days since I came here. We walked all days in the jungle,” he said as villagers clicked pictures with the prize catch.

“I am from Pakistan and my partner was killed in the firing but I escaped. Had I been killed, it would have been Allah’s doing. There is fun in doing this,” Naved said.

Initially, he said that he was in his early 20s but later claimed that he was only 16. He had been changing his statements. First he identified himself as Kasim and later as Usman.

This has been the tactics of banned Lashker group sending youngsters to Jammu and Kashmir with the direction that in case they were caught, they should claim to be below 18 years so that they are tried as juveniles.

  15. USA: Congressional rejection of Iran deal could mean war, says Obama

US President Barack Obama declared that if Congress rejected the Iran nuclear deal, they leave only one other option to preventing Iran from getting a nuclear weapon: “another war in the Middle East.” Obama made the comments during a speech at the American University in Washington DC, where John F. Kennedy made his nonproliferation speech in 1963, on Wednesday. The president asked those present, “how can we justify war before we have tested a diplomatic agreement that achieves our objectives, how could we justify that to the world?”

    • We are already in a war, the deal just gives Iran more time and money to build more weapons to attack us.

    • If they are going to start shooting the best time for them will be between the election and the inauguration, this keeps their attack from causing the Dem to lose the election but also gives them time to do major damage before the next President is sworn in, in case the Dems lose.

  16. U.S. targets alleged Qatari militant backers

The U.S. Department of Treasury has imposed on Wednesday sanctions on two Qatari men who were allegedly involved in financial support for al-Qaeda and its Syrian affiliate, Al-Nusra Front.

Saad bin Saad Mohammed Sharyan al-Kaabi and Abdul Latif Bin Abdallah Salih Muhammad al-Kawari were designated as “global terrorists” under a law that allows the ministry to freeze the assets of those involved with terrorism and prevents Americans from doing business with them.

A U.S. official said that al-Kaabi and al-Kuwari ran large networks of funding and that sanctions against the Qatari men would hopefully have a significant impact on their ability to raise any further funds in the region.

The official also added that while the U.S. Treasury is focusing on cutting off international funding to ISIS, “that does not mean that we are neglecting other terrorist groups.”

U.S. officials told reporters on Wednesday that Kaabi set up a website to solicit money for extremist groups in Syria, but that the Qatari government has since shut it down.
    ‘Disrupt the funding schemes’

“These sanctions target two major facilitators of the Nusra Front and al-Qaeda,” said Acting Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Adam J. Szubin. “Treasury remains committed to using our financial intelligence and authorities to unravel and disrupt the funding schemes exploited by terrorist groups.”

The treasury said that Kaabi had set up donation campaigns in Qatar to aid with fundraising in response to a request from a Nusra Front associate to raise funds for weapons and food.

During that same period, a Nusra Front official requested Kaabi to act as an intermediary in collecting a ransom for a hostage being held by the group.

The treasury said Kawari collected financial support for al-Qaeda and that he had served as an al-Qaeda security official.

In early 2012, he had worked with Qaeda facilitators to coordinate the delivery of funding from Qatari financiers intended to support the extremist group.

The ministry did not mention the amount of funds collected by the Qatari men or the names of the hostages who were freed through Kaabi’s ransom. Officials also refused to answer a question on whether the Qatari government itself may have contributed to the financing of ransoms for any kidnapped persons.

Sanctions come after the Nusra Front kidnapped a group of U.S. trained Syrian opposition fighters, but U.S. official have denied that any link between the two issues.

The U.S. treasury has previously blamed Qatar of creating a tolerant atmosphere that allows the raising of funds and support of extremist organizations, especially those operating in Syria.

Officials said on Wednesday that cooperation with Qatar is improving, but “we still have concerns with respect to terrorist financing in Qatar.”

Any assets these individuals may have under U.S. jurisdiction are frozen, and U.S. persons are generally prohibited from doing business with them.

In recent years, ANF and al-Qaida have resorted to increasingly complicated schemes in the face of international pressure to maintain funding flows to support terrorist activities. Today’s action advances efforts to target the external funding networks of ANF and al-Qaida. The individuals designated today played roles in supporting violent extremists in Syria, Pakistan, and Sudan.

“These sanctions target two major facilitators of the al-Nusrah Front and al-Qaida,” said Acting Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Adam J. Szubin. “Treasury remains committed to using our financial intelligence and authorities to unravel and disrupt the funding schemes exploited by terrorist groups.”

    Sa’d bin Sa’d Muhammad Shariyan al-Ka’bi

As of early 2014, al-Ka’bi reported that he had set up donation campaigns in Qatar to aid with fundraising in response to a request from an ANF associate for money to purchase both weapons and food. In that same time period, an ANF official requested that al-Ka’bi act as an intermediary for collecting a ransom for a hostage being held by ANF, and al-Ka’bi worked to facilitate a ransom payment in exchange for the release of a hostage held by ANF.

In 2013, al-Ka’bi worked closely with U.S.- and UN-designated Kuwaiti ANF fundraiser Hamid Hamad Hamid al-‘Ali and received funding from him to support ANF. Since at least late 2012, al-Ka’bi has provided support to ANF in Syria.

Abd al-Latif Bin ‘Abdallah Salih Muhammad al-Kawari

Al-Kawari has collected financial support for al-Qaida and served as an al-Qaida security official. In early 2012, al-Kawari worked with al-Qaida facilitators to coordinate the delivery of funding from Qatari financiers intended to support al-Qaida and to deliver receipts confirming that al-Qaida received foreign donor funding from Qatar-based extremists. Early that year, he also facilitated the international travel of a courier who was carrying tens of thousands of dollars earmarked for al-Qaida.

In the early 2000s, al-Kawari worked with US- and UN-designated al-Qaida operative Mustafa Hajji Muhammad Khan, also known as Hassan Ghul (Ghul), and US- and UN-designated Qatari al-Qaida facilitator Ibrahim ‘Isa Haji Muhammad al-Bakr (al-Bakr) to transfer money to al-Qaida in Pakistan. At that time, al-Kawari also obtained a fraudulent passport for Ghul, which Ghul used to travel to Qatar with al-Kawari and al-Bakr.

  17. Radical preacher Anjem Choudary protests his innocence in court

Radical preacher Anjem Choudary gave a 20-minute speech protesting his innocence as he appeared in the court dock charged with inviting support for Islamic State (IS).

Choudary was arrested last year by officers from the Metropolitan Police’s counter terrorism command.

It is alleged that between June 29 last year and March 6 this year, Choudary invited support for the proscribed organisation Isil, also known as Isis or Islamic State, contrary to section 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

It is claimed that he encouraged support for the banned terror group in social media posts on the internet.

The bearded preacher, 48, wore a white gown and glasses and smiled as he walked in to the dock at London’s Westminster Magistrates Court.

He chose to represent himself and spoke confidently as he outlined his indication to plead not guilty, waving around notes relating to his case.

Choudary, of Hampton Road, Ilford in east London, gesticulated and pointed to the court room as he made the 20-minute speech from the dock.

Several of his friends watched from the public gallery while the press benches were full for the hearing.

He appeared alongside Mohammed Rahman, 32, of Sidney Street in Whitechapel, east London, who is also accused of inviting support for IS over the same dates.

Rahman wore grey tracksuit bottoms and a navy hoodie as he sat next to Choudary, surrounded by three dock officers and two suited police officers.

Both defendants smiled at each other and refused to stand as the chief magistrate Howard Riddle left the court.

Both men were arrested on September 25 last year on suspicion of being members of the proscribed organisation.

Choudary was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on August 28.

Choudary had asked for the case to be heard at the magistrates court, but the chief magistrate declined jurisdiction and sent it to the crown court.

Rahman was also remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on August 28.

  20. NC county commissioner storms out of meeting during Muslim prayer: ‘I don’t need no Arab telling me what to do’

The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners had always opened government meetings with Christian prayer. About two months ago, officials decided that in order to avoid legal trouble, they’d have to let everyone participate.

    That didn’t last long.

On Monday, commission chairman Carrol Mitchem, who had previously announced he wouldn’t “bow to minorities” and that he “ain’t gonna have no new religion or pray to Allah” at board meetings, held true to his word and walked out on the first person to address the North Carolina government meeting with a Muslim prayer, the Lincoln Times-News reports.

“That was very upsetting. It was upsetting,” Dustin Barto of the Foothills Interfaith Assembly, who had led the Muslim prayer, told WSCOTV.

By the end of the meeting, all prayer was banned at board meetings and will be replaced with a moment of silence. Commissioner Alex Patton initiated the motion which was easily voted into effect.

“To me, the final straw was when our chairman got up and walked out,” Patton told WSCOTV, adding that the commission needs to focus on pressing matters like the economy and education.

The issue of prayer at the meetings had generated months of controversy, the station reported.

Previously, Mitchem had vowed to keep Christian-only prayers at the meetings.

“I don’t believe we need to be bowing to the minorities,” Mitchem had told WBTV. “The U.S. and the Constitution were founded on Christianity. This is what the majority of people believe in, and it’s what I’m standing up for.”

The issue came up after nearby Rowan County was ordered by a federal judge to stop opening public meetings with sectarian prayer because it violated the Constitution.

“I don’t need no Arab or Muslim or whoever telling me what to do or us here in the county what to do about praying. If they don’t like it, stay the hell away,” Mitchem had responded. “We’re fighting Muslims every day. I’m not saying they’re all bad. They believe in a different God than I do. If that’s what they want to do, that’s fine. But, they don’t need to be telling us, as Christians, what we need to be doing. They don’t need to be rubbing our faces in it.”

Islam is one of the three Abrahamic religions and does, in fact, adhere to the same God as Judaism and Christianity, Jibril Hough, spokesman for the Islamic Center of Charlotte, pointed out.

“If you don’t believe the rights of the minority are equal to the rights of the majority, then you are against what America stands for,” Hough told the Charlotte Observer. “That’s why we live in a democratic republic.”

Commissioners to allow invocation of non-Christian prayer at Lincoln County meetings

    LINCOLN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) –

The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners passed a policy Monday allowing any religious leader in the county to sign up to deliver invocation before council meetings.

The policy passed just ten days after Chairman Carrol Mitchem made comments to several media outlets stating that only Christian prayer was welcome at the meetings.

“The religious leaders or chosen leaders of any assembly that periodically and regularly meets in Lincoln County for the purpose of worshiping or discussing their religious perspectives are invited to offer an invocation before a meeting of the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners,” a note from the board stated.

“This opportunity is voluntary, and invocation speakers are free to offer the invocation according to the dictates of their own conscience,” the note continues. “The Board requests only that the prayer opportunity not be exploited as an effort to convert others to the particular faith of the invocational speaker, threaten damnation, nor to disparage any faith or belief different than that of the invocational speaker.”

Mitchem said on May 8 that non-Christian prayers, specifically Muslim prayers, were not welcome at the meetings, and that he was prepared to fight to keep it that way.

“Other religions, or whatever, are in the minority. The U.S. was founded on Christianity,” Mitchem told WBTV in early May. “I don’t believe we need to be bowing to the minorities. The U.S. and the Constitution were founded on Christianity. This is what the majority of people believe in and it’s what I’m standing up for.”

“I ain’t gonna have no new religion or pray to Allah or nothing like that,” Mitchem said. He said that anyone who didn’t want to hear a Christian prayer could leave and “wait until we’re done praying.”

He said that it was a stance “we as a country” need to take. “We’re fighting Muslims every day. I’m not saying they’re all bad. They believe in a different god than I do. If that’s what they want to do, that’s fine. But, they don’t need to be telling us, as Christians, what we need to be doing. They don’t need to be rubbing our faces in it.”

Mitchem spoke about the comments at Monday’s meeting.

“I want to make clear that the opinion I gave was my own and not the opinion of the board of commissioners,” he said. “When it pertains to county business, I’m going to make sure I listen to you and I’m going to talk to you about it.”

Mitchem then asked if anyone would like to speak, saying he didn’t “want to deny anyone the opportunity.”

That opportunity was taken by several Lincoln County residents, both in support and opposition to Mitchem’s comments.

“When I read the comments that Commissioner Mitchem said last week, I was just floored,” resident Chris Goodson said. “I was upset that he said ‘us’ as if we’re all Christian here – because everyone in Lincoln County is not Christian. He’s there to represent us all, not just part of us. This is a diverse county. It’s strongly conservative in a lot of ways, but it’s a lot more diverse than people think.”

Another man said he was “dismayed when I heard Mr. Mitchems bigoted and ignorant comments about religion.” He said that many people living in the area are not Christians. Mitchem thanked the man and said, “I appreciate your opinion.”

A Lincoln County Muslim then took to the podium.

“I still feel that that’s a bit exclusive. I would like for it to be open to any resident of the county,” said Duston Barto. “Faith is a very personal thing and there are many religions that don’t have organizational structures that mirror Christianity. It’s not in Lincoln County where people tell me to get out of the country. It’s not in Lincoln County that I was beat up just because of my religion.”

Some residents, however, said they supported the chairman’s comments.

“I don’t have no hatred against no one, but I thank god that you did stand up,” one resident said.

Others showed support for his apology.

“I do want to thank mr mitchem for standing in front of everyone and having the guts to apologize,” one resident said. “That was a very big thing to do.”

“I’m a Christian and I’m going to be a Christian, but my Bible tells me not to hate and to love even my enemies,” another commissioner said. “This is not church, this is government. And we’re elected to represent everybody.”

It is too late for OPEC to stop the shale revolution. The cartel faces the prospect of surging US output whenever oil prices rise

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/oilprices/11768136/Saudi-Arabia-may-go-broke-before-the-US-oil-industry-buckles.html

This is a major game changer for the world and the war, without massive amounts of money they can’t keep bribing western politicians to betray our nations.

    • They have humongous global real estate holdings, bonds, precious metals, etc. A fabulous diversified portfolio managed by the best in the West.

Whether that’s national Saudi money or personal, private property of the Saudi royal family, I have no idea. If the royals are thrown out, we may find the national coffers empty.

      • Since Saudi is an absolute monarchy there is no difference between public and royal family money, so when ( I fully expect the Royals to have to flee for their lives from either Iran or ISIS, or both) the collapse comes the property of the Royals around the world will become subject of great litigation, if we aren’t in a declared war against the rebels.

        • “Declared war” has been antiquated by our Dear Leaders switching sides without advice & consent.

The Constitution is being shredded and the population doesn’t know or care.

          • You are right on both counts, we are rapidly moving backwards in social evolution, we are moving from freedom and rights for everyone varying degrees of tyranny and group rights. The group rights idea is bringing back tribalism with all of the evils it had.
