  1. Gunmen kill at least 40 in Karachi attack

More than 40 people have been killed and dozens injured in a gun attack on a bus carrying Shia Muslims in Karachi, reports say.

Police said attackers on motorcycles stopped the bus and fired at passengers indiscriminately.

“At least six gunmen attacked a bus in the Safoora Goth area,” a senior police official told AFP news agency.

Pakistan’s Shia minority are the target of frequent sectarian attacks from Sunni militant groups.

  3. Hello :
I’ve just come across the short video report, “Burnley UK street interview attacked by sharia muslims.” The page at this blog has evaporated apparently.
Each copy I’ve found elsewhere has sections censored for the UK and Europe. Does anyone know where I can find the original, uncensored report?
I’m surprised even the MRCTV version is censored.
    Regards : Hubert Wagner

  4. This story was quite a while ago. But as I recall, the original video was pulled because the two women in it rightfully feared for their lives, specially as one of them still lived in the area. Copies appeared later where a blur was applied to their faces. Is this what you mean by censorship? There most certainly should be a page here about it, a lot of work went into that story at the time. And the MRCTV copy, if I remember correctly, had a blur applied as well because the women requested it. But here is a generational version of it with no blur. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxefcCwgKNU Probably by now there should be no problem and its an important clip, I agree. Please give me a link to the page at Vlad which has missing info if you would. I need to know if outside agencies are changing our content without my knowledge or consent.

    • Hello Eeyore :
“Copies appeared later where a blur was applied to their faces. Is this what you mean by censorship”?
The copy on YouTube does not blur the faces of the two women. Rather, some of the American reporter’s remarks towards the end of the video are censored. The audio cuts out and a message appears across the screen informing the viewer his remarks are censored in the UK and Europe.

I understand the EU would like to censor Internet content and may have plans to do so. Likely one target would be counter Jihad material. This video may be an early example.
The UK is a “shut up and do what you’re told” culture. Higher education tends to be limited to a relatively small section of the population. It’s important the North American reaction to what’s happening in the UK is made available to ordinary people in the UK, particularly those who have not received much education.

      • The copy I grabbed when it first came out and uploaded to MRCTB should NOT have been censored. I dimly recall adding a face blur to the 2 women as they requested that, but the full content was there. Do you have a link to it please?

I may still have the original kicking around. It would help to be directed to a censored copy with the time you are speaking about so I can see whats missing and get it back out there.

        Thanks for the heads up.

        • Hello Eeyore :
It has just occurred to me the YouTube video may not be censored if it’s viewed from Canada.
I have a screen shot of the text which tells the viewer the content at that point is censored.
However, I don’t know how to add that to this note.

          Best Wishes : Hubert Wagner

          • I found an old copy I have which has quite good video, but yes, it has across the screen the censor message and no audio at 2 points so far.

            This is extremely weird.

I am pretty sure I grabbed it when it first broadcast. Finding it on one of many hard drives, some of which have failed and I may have even thrown out a couple, will take time. But I’ll keep looking. This is very interesting and thank you for bringing it to my attention. At least I found a clearer version so far.

  6. Projectile Hit SEPTA Train Minutes Before Amtrak Derailment in Philadelphia

SEPTA officials say there is no connection between the two.
A projectile hit a SEPTA train minutes before an Amtrak train derailed in Philadelphia Tuesday night, SEPTA spokeswoman Jerri Williams confirmed.

Williams said investigators do not believe the SEPTA incident is related in any way to the derailment.

The projectile hit and busted the engineer’s window on a northbound SEPTA train that was headed to Trenton on tracks that run along the Amtrak rails, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. About 80 passengers were put on buses to continue their trip.

Less than five minutes later and approximately four miles away Amtrak train 188 went shuddered and went off the tracks at the Frankford Junction in Northeast Philadelphia, killing at least 6 people and injuring more than 140.

A full investigative team from the National Transportation Safety Board and multiple federal, state and local agencies remained at the crash site Wednesday.

  10. Mediterranean migrant crisis: HMS Bulwark rescues hundreds (BBC, May 13, 2015)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-32723573

“A British warship has rescued hundreds of migrants from the Mediterranean, the Ministry of Defence has said.

HMS Bulwark brought more than 400 people to safety after they were found 40 miles from the Libyan coast in inflatable boats.

The European Commission has proposed a scheme to offer 20,000 refugees the right to resettle in the EU.

Meanwhile, Home Secretary Theresa May has suggested that some rescued migrants should be returned home.

The BBC defence correspondent Jonathan Beale said a further 150 migrants had been transferred to HMS Bulwark from an Italian coastguard vessel and the ship would now head to Sicily.

Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said the Royal Navy had rescued about 600 people so far this month….”

  12. Explosions Kill 4 Egyptian Soldiers, 4 Civilians in Sinai (abcnews, May 13, 2015)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/explosions-kill-egyptian-soldiers-civilians-sinai-31002881

“Egyptian security officials say four soldiers died when a bomb they were trying to diffuse exploded in northern Sinai, while a separate explosion killed four civilians.

The officials say two officers were among the dead in the explosion Wednesday near the city of Rafah, which borders the Gaza Strip.

Separately, security officials say an anti-tank mine exploded in a nearby area, killing four Bedouin tribesmen. They blamed the extremist Islamic State-affiliated Ansar Beit al-Maqdis group, saying it had intended to strike soldiers.

The area has long been a hotspot but attacks picked up radically following the army’s ouster of Egypt’s Islamist president in 2013.

Units of Ansar Beit al-Maqdis have joined the local Islamic State franchise, which yesterday released a video showing attacks on soldiers that killed several of them.”

  13. Pakistan hangs MQM worker Saulat Mirza for murder (BBC, May 13, 2015)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-32715532

“Pakistan has hanged a former MQM worker convicted of murder, after delaying his execution because he implicated his party leader in the killing.

Saulat Mirza was put to death at a jail in Balochistan province on Tuesday.

He was convicted in 1999 of the killing two years earlier of Karachi’s power utility service head Shahid Hamid.

Mirza was due to be hanged on 19 March but the execution was delayed after he released a video alleging the killing was ordered by MQM chief Altaf Hussain.

The video came just a week after the authorities carried out a high-profile raid on Nine-Zero, the Karachi headquarters of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), a powerful regional party.

Paramilitary Rangers claimed they captured a number of wanted criminals and recovered a big cache of arms in the raid.

Mr Hussain, who lives in self-imposed exile in London, has strenuously denied any involvement in the killing of Mr Hamid.”

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-32719014

“The European Commission has unveiled a new blueprint for dealing with the EU’s migration crisis, including a controversial plan for national quotas.

The EU aims to bring 20,000 refugees to Europe in the next two years, as part of the plan, at a cost of €50m (£36m).

The Commission is urging EU states to share the burden of processing asylum claims. Italy and Greece, facing a migrant surge, are struggling to cope.

Under EU law the UK, Ireland and Denmark are exempt from the quota plan.

There is pressure for tougher EU action to send economic migrants back home….”
