“The US Justice Department says it has charged an American citizen with conspiracy to provide material support to al-Qaeda militants in Pakistan.

Muhanad Mahmoud al-Farekh was deported from Pakistan, where he had travelled to in about 2007.

He and two others travelled to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan from Winnipeg, Canada, where they were students.

Mr al-Farekh was born in Texas, and has been charged in New York.

He is accused of supporting a conspiracy to kill Americans and to carry out attacks against the US military….”

  2. Egypt: Sinai peninsula attack kills 17 (BBC, Apr 2, 2015)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-32158096

“Militants have reportedly killed 17 people in the north of Egypt’s Sinai peninsula, near the Israel-Gaza border.

Security sources say 15 soldiers and two civilians died when gunmen attacked checkpoints around the town of Sheikh Zuweid on Thursday.

Egyptian forces have been fighting a faction affiliated to the Islamic State group, known as Sinai Province.

Dozens of soldiers and civilians have already been killed this year in northern Sinai.

In the latest incident, gunmen fired on soldiers with automatic rifles and rockets as part of a co-ordinated set of attacks, police officials say…”

  3. A truly dangerous meeting of minds (BBC, Apr 2, 2015)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-32065132

“In the winter of 2003 jihadist turned MI5 spy Aimen Dean attended a lecture by Anwar al-Awlaki, a man he had never heard of but who would become an inspiration to Islamist extremists throughout the world. Also listening, and taking notes, were three of London’s 7/7 bombers.

In a converted flat on the first floor of a building in the Black Country town of Dudley, about 30 men were gathered to hear a lecture by an American visitor who was building a reputation as an inspirational jihadist scholar.

In the audience were three men who would go on to launch suicide bomb attacks in London just over 18 months later, but also an undercover informant for the Security Service, MI5.

What happened behind the closed doors of this private meeting offers a rare insight into the battle between British Islamist extremism and the spies who fought against them….”

  4. Malaysian Cartoonist Charged With 9 Counts of Sedition (abcnews, Apr 3, 2015)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/malaysian-cartoonist-charged-counts-sedition-30077693

“A Malaysian cartoonist known for lampooning the ruling coalition was charged Friday with nine counts of sedition over a series of tweets criticizing the country’s judiciary.

The charges against Zulkiflee Anwar Alhaque, better known as Zunar, came amid a widening government crackdown on opposition politicians and the media using the colonial-era law, slammed by critics as a move to stifle freedom of expression.

“This is a record, being charged nine times and using the sedition law. It is excessive and targeted at silencing vocal critics,” said Zunar’s lawyer, Latheefa Koya.

Zunar faces up to 43 years in jail if found guilty on all nine charges, she said.

The nine tweets criticizing the judiciary were posted Feb. 10 when opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim began serving a five-year prison sentence after losing his final appeal on a sodomy charge…”

      • I think a lot of it applies to fighting Islam as well, but there are differences. Greenfield writes, of the left:

‘It has no tradition. It has no heritage. It has no culture. It’s a virus, not an organism. It is utterly worthless and, like a virus, will not survive the destruction of its host.’

Islam is also parasitical, but unlike the left, it has tradition, heritage and culture. It isn’t just an anti-culture. It’s organic in its way, it builds families and builds on families. But the religion itself is built on lies, and we can go on exposing it, so long as the left doesn’t succeed in completely throttling free speech.

        • I agree, the left will be defeated in the relatively near future but the Islamic problem will last much longer.

    • You Hussein Obama a deal designed, planned, dictated by Iran cannot be the best deal for Israel or anyone else. The deal is designed with annihilation of Israel embedded in it. And Hussein exactly knows that and he approves it. The devil.

      • Right on the money Murad.
I read something the other day that gave me pause. Jew-hate is so pervasive and enduring it can only be explained as an demonic expression.

    • I can’t tell you the number of times I have heard a vet say the same thing, and then say that as far as they are concerned their oaths to protect the constitution are still in force.

  5. TIME – Ayaan Hirsi Ali: Beware of Michiganistan

[…]there are no American equivalents of the alarmist books about Europe with titles like Eurabia or Londonistan. Apparently it is not quite time to warn about the “United States of Sharia” or “Michiganistan.” But are we underestimating the speed with which this country could develop substantial and influential populations of Islamic extremists?

[…]According to estimates by the Pew Research Center, the Muslim population of the United States is set to increase from around 2.6 million today to 6.2 million in 2030, mainly as a result of immigration, as well as above-average birth rates

[…]Approximately two fifths of Muslim immigrants between now and 2030 will be from just three countries: Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Iraq. Another Pew study – of opinion in the Muslim world – shows just how many people in these countries hold views that most Americans would regard as extreme. (Data on opinion are unavailable for the other two big “sender” countries, Somalia and Iran.)

[…]According to a detailed survey of Muslim Americans, about 8% of those surveyed said that suicide bombing and other violence is often or sometimes justified to defend Islam from its enemies. Indeed, more than a fifth of Muslim Americans say there is a great deal or a fair amount of support for extremism in the Muslim American community. About 20% say that Muslim Americans want to remain “distinct from the larger American society.” Indeed, half say they think of themselves first as a Muslim, second as American, despite the fact that 81% of those polled were U.S. citizens

[…]Finally, there is a singular feature of American life that, for historical reasons, is not a factor in Europe: the high rate of conversions to Islam among African-Americans.

  6. Tunisia arrests more suspected militants for Bardo attack

Tunisian security forces have arrested 23 more suspected Islamist militants as part of a crackdown after last month’s Bardo museum attack in which two gunmen killed 21 foreign tourists, the interior ministry said on Friday.

The attackers gunned down foreign tourists visiting the national museum in Tunis, in one of the worst attacks in the country, which has mostly avoided violence since its 2011 uprising against autocrat Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali.

The interior ministry said in a statement that the 23 new suspects belonged to two terrorist cells. It said that so far 46 suspects have been arrested since the Bardo massacre.

“Members of these terrorist cells will be charged of being accomplices in the terrorist incident (Bardo attack) through providing weapons and logistics help,” the statement said.

Japanese, Polish, Spanish, French and Colombian tourists were among those killed in the attack the government says targeted Tunisia’s vital tourism industry, which makes up around seven percent of its economy.

Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack although the Tunisian government said fighters from a local group, Okba Ibn Nafaa, that has been mostly based in the Chaambi mountains bordering Algeria, were involved.

Tunisian forces killed nine militants tied to the Okba brigade during a raid in a southern region last week including Algerian militant commander Khaled Chaib, also known as Lokman Abou Sakhr.

The Bardo attack has underscored how Islamist militant loyalties are shifting as they seek a new North African front, especially in Libya, where political chaos and factional fighting has allowed Islamic State to gain an outpost.

  7. UK – LONDON – Britain First and EDL protesters clash with Muslim worshippers outside London mosque

Far-right protesters today staged a demonstration outside a London mosque as worshippers attended Friday prayers.

Around 100 members of Britain First and the English Defence League held a demonstration outside the London Central Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre near Regent’s Park.

EDL members were heard chanting – to the tune of the Beach Boys’ Sloop John B – “It’s out country, we’re taking it back” as prayers were held.

Radical cleric Anjem Choudary was among those worshipping at the mosque as protesters chanted anti-Islamic messages and wielded banners and placards outside.

Speaking outside after prayers, Mr Choudary told Muslims not to vote at the forthcoming election.

He also handed out leaflets entitled “why it is strictly forbidden to vote in Islam”.

  8. IRAQ – U.S. to Hold Iraqi Forces to Account in Tikrit

The United States is closely monitoring Iraqi forces in Tikrit amid allegations of human rights abuses committed by Baghdad’s troops and allied fighters in an assault to retake the city, a U.S. military official said Thursday.

It was “unclear” if executions and other alleged atrocities had taken place, the senior military official told reporters, but “that’s exactly what we’re going to be watching” for as Iraqi forces move to secure Tikrit.

Iraqi troops backed by paramilitary groups and U.S.-led air strikes took back Tikrit from the IS group last week.

Amnesty International said Thursday it was investigating reports of serious rights violations during the Tikrit offensive, including allegations of executions, abductions and the burning and looting of homes.

The United States agreed to provide air power to back up the assault on the IS in Tikrit after the Iraqi government assured Washington it had full control over all forces involved in the operation. That required some Shiite militias with ties to Iran to pull back from attacks on the Tikrit town center.

The decision to provide US-led air raids demonstrated Washington’s support for the Iraqi government, the military official said.

But the Iraqis “need to understand we will hold them accountable for the aftermath of the Tikrit operation,” said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The Shiite-led government in Baghdad will need to fulfill its promises to turn the city over to police, to respect the rights of Sunnis in the area and to deliver prompt humanitarian and reconstruction assistance, the official said.

“We’re watching them very carefully, once the city is completely under control of the central government, whether the central government lives up to its commitment,” the official said.

The United States and rights groups have repeatedly warned that any sectarian-driven abuses will only sow the seeds of future violence and play into the hands of the IS jihadists.
