Gunmen storm Kenya university; police officers, student wounded (CNN, Apr 2, 2015)
    http://edition.cnn.com/2015/04/02/africa/kenya-university-attack/index.html

“Gunmen attacked Garissa University College in Kenya on Thursday morning, wounding two police officers and one student, CNN affiliate NTV reported.

It’s not clear how many gunmen were on campus.

Heavy gunfire was reported as police engaged attackers, NTV said. Ambulances waited nearby.

The gunshots started going off “like fireworks” around 5 a.m., at the time of morning prayers, witness Milka Ndung’u told NTV.

Ndung’u said she and others escaped to a field, but gunshots followed them and they continued fleeing.

Student Augustine Alanga told CNN he woke up to the sound of gunfire and described students running around the dormitories seeking shelter.

Garissa University College, in south central Kenya, is in an area where Al Shabaab militants have from sometimes led raids.”

    • Thank you Tasha,

Are these products halal because they are like vegetables and contain nothing offensive, or halal because there has been an Imam involved and the payment to Islam?

      • “When foods are produced according to Islamic law, they are known as halal. Halal milk is milk that is produced from a halal animal, such as a cow. As long as the animal being milked is considered halal, the milk is permissible to consume. Forbidden animals, or haram animals, from which Muslims may not eat or obtain milk would include pigs and monkeys along with dozens of other species.”

          • The Latest: Kenya police offer bounty for attack planner

Kenyan police have offered a $220,000 bounty for Mohammed Mohamud, also known as Dulyadin alias Gamadhere whom they believe is the mastermind of the attack on a college in Garissa, in northeast Kenya.

Al-Shabab gunmen attacked Garissa University College on Thursday, targeting Christians and killing at least 15 people and wounding 60 others. Witnesses said the gunmen said they were from al-Shabab, a Somali extremist Islamic group, and the group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

            • Al-Shabaab beheading students in Garissa

There have been several beheadings in the terrorist attack on the Garissa University College in Kenya, survivors of the attack said on Thursday.

The revelation came in the midst of the attack on the university, which is still ongoing, with gunshots still being heard from the vicinity of the university’s hostel grounds.

Winnie Njeri, one of the escapees, told News24 Kenya that she saw beheaded bodies when she was rescued by Kenya Defence Forces personnel.

“We saw beheaded bodies when we escaped. It is very bad, they have killed many people,” an emotional Njeri said.

Omar Ibrahim, also a student at the university, said that there were several bodies which had been badly disfigured by the attackers.

“I was in a group that was saved by the KDF just after one o’clock. We saw many many bodies, some did not have heads. I don’t know why someone would do such a thing,” a visibly disturbed Ibrahim said.

    • This is one of the real big risks that the west is taking, they refuse to admit the religious motive of hte terrorists, thus they can’t effectively fight the terrorists.

        • That is because the left has spent so much time attacking religion, they have disarmed the west and we are now paying the price.

          • When they gave up the religion of their forebears, they turned to leftism as a substitute. Becoming more pious means greater adherence to a system that’s increasingly totalitarian. They feel compelled to seek converts, or force conversion on the recalcitrant.

      • What is scary is that if Putin moves on Norway there is no telling where he will stop.

        • No one to stop him. We hit him hard and fast; he parries and strikes. I’m sure* he’s enjoying his role as cat among mice.

*[Actually, it’s my Russki who’s sure. He doesn’t opine casually, so I trust him. One son in Israel, the other in Kiev.]

          • I will add you sons to the list to pray for.

Putin is playing high stakes to become a major player on the worlds stage, he is not afraid because he knows the west will not go nuclear with him and doesn’t have enough conventional troops to do anything to stop him. He is rebuilding the Russian Empire and he may not stop with what they had before WWII, at one point they owned Poland and a lot more of Eastern Europe. He may want to take all of them and a bunch of the Scandinavian nations.

            • They’re his sons and I’d gladly kill the one still in Kiev for staying put and worrying poor Papa.
(But I’ve never met his kids and they’re surely better armed than I am.)

    • If it is at all possible a war of maneuver is preferred to a war of attrition, given the limited number of people Israel has they need to rely on maneuver when it is possible.

  3. UN report: More than 25,000 foreigners fight with terrorists

UNITED NATIONS — The number of fighters leaving home to join al-Qaida and the Islamic State group in Iraq, Syria and other countries has spiked to more than 25,000 from over 100 nations, according to a new U.N. report.

The panel of experts monitoring U.N. sanctions against al-Qaida said in the report obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press that its analysis indicates the number of foreign terrorist fighters worldwide increased by 71 percent between mid-2014 and March 2015.

It said the scale of the problem has increased over the past three years and the flow of foreign fighters “is higher than it has ever been historically.”

[…]In addition to Syria and Iraq, the report said Afghan security forces estimated in March that about 6,500 foreign fighters were active in the country. And it said hundreds of foreigners are fighting in Yemen, Libya and Pakistan, around 100 in Somalia, and others in the Sahel countries in northern Africa, and in the Philippines.

[…]It cited the “high number” of foreign fighters from Tunisia, Morocco, France and Russia, the increase in fighters from the Maldives, Finland and Trinidad and Tobago,

  4. DAILY MAIL – Chauffeur and wife face jail for blackmailing Qatari royals for £600,000 over ‘private’ photos on USB sticks that were left in car

Chauffeur Awad Abdulbagy drove family’s photographer during 2013 trip
Found ‘private’ photos of royals on cameras and USB sticks left in car
He and his wife boasted they could sell images to TV stations and enemies
The couple demanded £600,000 ‘reward’ for pictures through embassy

[…]The victim of the plot cannot be named, but Qatari diplomat Ali Al-Hajri told jurors it was a ‘very sensitive’ situation.

Mr Al-Hajri told the court: ‘It is very natural that these are shameful, they are private photographs.

‘There are so many enemies of Qatar and these are private photos and you know that can be really very bad in our society – we are very conservative.’

[…]Abdulbagy described the photos as being ‘like treasure’ and demanded a ‘present or reward’.

‘He said he didn’t have a house, didn’t have any money, said he wanted to do it in the halal way -or the clean way – and he spoke about the value of the photographs,’ […]

  5. NYT – Two Queens Women Charged in Bomb Plot

Two female roommates in Queens have been charged with planning to build a bomb that they wanted to detonate in the United States.

The roommates, Noelle Velentzas, 28, and Asia Siddiqui, 31, both United States citizens, were named in a complaint unsealed on Thursday in Federal District Court in Brooklyn.

Ms. Siddiqui “is currently in possession of multiple propane gas tanks, as well as instructions for how to transform propane tanks into explosive devices,” the complaint reads.

The women appeared to be interested in jihad and had been communicating with Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula personnel. They also watched videos of ISIS beheadings, according to the complaint.

  6. VS Naipaul launches attack on Islam

The novelist VS Naipaul has caused an outcry by comparing the “calamitous effect” of Islam on the world with colonialism.

Sir Vidia, born in Trinidad of Indian parentage, who travelled extensively in the Muslim world for his books Among the Believers and Beyond Belief, launched his attack after a reading of his new book, Half a Life, at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London.

Islam, he claimed, had both enslaved and attempted to wipe out other cultures.”It has had a calamitous effect on converted peoples. To be converted you have to destroy your past, destroy your history. You have to stamp on it, you have to say ‘my ancestral culture does not exist, it doesn’t matter’.”

Sir Vidia claimed what he called “this abolition of the self demanded by Muslims was worse than the similar colonial abolition of identity. It is much, much worse in fact… You cannot just say you came out of nothing.”

He argued that Pakistan was the living proof of the damage Islam could wreak.

“The story of Pakistan is a terror story actually. It started with a poet who thought that Muslims were so highly evolved that they should have a special place in India for themselves.

“This wish to sift countries of unnecessary and irrelevant populations is terrible and this is exactly what happened in Pakistan.”

Ahmed Versi, editor of the Muslim News, said Naipaul’s outburst showed just how deep his ignorance of Islam was.

“What he says may shock many people here, but it comes as no surprise to those of us who have read his books. He is basically a Hindu nationalist, who has a deep dislike of Muslims, and that is where he is coming from.”

  7. French court summons ex-Guantanamo chief in torture probe

A French court on Thursday summoned former Guantanamo prison chief Geoffrey Miller over accusations of torture by two former detainees, their lawyer told AFP.

Nizar Sassi and Mourad Benchellali, both French citizens, were arrested by U..S forces in Afghanistan before being transferred to the notorious prison set up in Guantanamo Bay to hold terror suspects after the 9/11 attacks.

They were held from the end of 2001 until 2004 and 2005 respectively, before being sent home.

A French probe into their case began after they filed a complaint in court.

“The door has opened for civilian and military officials to be prosecuted over international crimes committed in Guantanamo,” their lawyer William Bourdon said.

“This decision can only… lead to other leaders being summoned.”

    • There is a law that Obama will ignore that says the US government must do everything possible including using military force to free any American citizen charged in the ICC.

    • They show us their compassion by that final scene, where a man helps free a dog trapped in the rubble. That just about sums it up. They know us too well.

    • Crummy cowards, attacking a site I value so highly.
They’re terrific journalists. Notice they’re beginning to use “Jew-Hatred” instead of “antisemitism”. I hope it becomes a trend.

      • I think it will, it is too good a propaganda tool not to. The wording Jew Hatred is so loaded emotionally that it is a natural for most people to use.

    • From about 28:00 – 31:00 the Sultan explains why a left turn was never an option him. Same for me, but I never could’ve explained it. Just never in the universe of possibles.
