1. Syria crisis: Idlib ‘captured by Islamist groups’

Islamist rebels have captured the north-western Syrian city of Idlib from government forces, monitors say.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the Ahrar al-Sham, Jund al-Aqsa and Nusra Front groups had taken the city on Saturday.

Idlib is only the second provincial centre to fall into rebel hands, after Raqqa was seized by Islamic State (IS).

Syria’s civil war, which began four years ago, has killed more than 200,000 Syrians and displaced 11 million.

The UK-based observatory said the militant groups seized the city after four days of intense fighting.

4. Saudi Arabia restores ambassador to Sweden following diplomatic dispute

Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Sweden will soon return to Stockholm, Swedish officials said Saturday, more than two weeks after he was recalled home amid a diplomatic spat over human rights.

“I’m very pleased that we can resume our normal diplomatic ties,” Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstroem told reporters.

The announcement followed a visit to Riyadh by Swedish government envoy Bjoern von Sydow on Friday, where he met with Saudi Arabia’s King Salman.

5. Shia-Sunni family from Mosul tells of terror under ISIS

A family of Arabs who fled their home in Mosul to escape the Islamic State has relayed tales of brutalities inflicted upon the city’s population by the jihadist occupiers.

Since July, the Al-Saraj family has lived safely in Dohuk in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, but they stay in close communication with friends and family inside the extremist group’s so-called caliphate.

The picture they paint of life inside Mosul is grim.Speaking from their home last week, the family said that before ISIS’ June seizure of Mosul, all the city’s ethnic and religious communities—Christian, Kurds, Yazidis, Turkmen, Shia and Sunni—all lived in peace. The family’s composition reflects this.

Family patriarch MS is a 55-year-old retired army colonel and a Sunni. His wife, RS, comes from a Shiite  family. Both agreed to speak for this story only if their full names were not used.

“It was paradise,” MS said of pre-American invasion life in Mosul.

But now, “the killings and cutting off of appendages have become routine,” added Saraj daughter SA.

  1. #6 What can the ordinary citizen do? Speak the truth…….

I just overheard some one in my house explain that aspects of sharia has nothing to do with islam. I believe she is parroting the media’s “nothing to do with islam” propaganda.
I bet when I confront her she will say I’m a lying islamophobe.
I find this very disturbing, more disturbing than physical attacks, due to it’s insidious nature, because it is defeatist and this type of person can under the right circumstances cause so many problems for me.
I will find the right moment to tell her the truth about islam, I doubt it will have any effect.

  2. Envoy Bjoern von Sydow slithered across the floor, licked with great meticulousness the boot of the Saudi King, and the King was benevolent and forgave the snake who slithered away back to his nest with the good news.

  3. Boko Haram blamed for decapitations (CNN, March 28, 2015)
    http://edition.cnn.com/2015/03/28/world/boko-haram-nigeria-village-raid/index.html

“Suspected Boko Haram gunmen decapitated 23 people in a raid on Buratai village in northeast Nigeria’s Borno state, residents and a politician said Saturday.

Scores of attackers invaded the village at 11 p.m. Friday when residents were mostly asleep and set homes on fire, hacking residents who tried to flee.

“?The gunmen slaughtered their 23 victims like rams and decapitated them. They injured several people,” said Ibrahim Adamu, a local politician who fled.

“They burned a large part of the village and we are afraid some residents were burnt in the homes because most people had gone to bed when the gunmen struck,” said Adamu, a ward councilor in the village.

A paramedic ?at a government hospital in the nearby town of Biu said 32 people from Buratai were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds and burns.

“The injured victims said a lot of people were beheaded by the attackers,” the paramedic said….”

  4. Maybe next time she will wipe her brain completely clean…

Hillary Clinton deleted all email from personal server (CNN, March 28, 2015)
    http://www.cnn.com/2015/03/27/politics/hillary-clinton-personal-email-server/index.html

“Hillary Clinton permanently deleted all the emails on the private server she used to do official business as secretary of state, the Republican lawmaker who subpoenaed the emails said late Friday.

Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina, chairman of the House committee investigating the attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, said Clinton’s lawyer informed him of the news.

“Secretary Clinton unilaterally decided to wipe her server clean and permanently delete all emails from her personal server,” Gowdy said in a statement.

Gowdy had also asked that Clinton turn over her server to the State Department inspector general for an independent review…..”

  6. Syria. A crying shame. My stepdaughter was there for 6 months, in Damascus, leaving the day Hague said “time to get out”. She adored it there. Fact is, had we supported Assad in his troubles on Day 1, and said – we’ll help you, you leave pulling toe nails from Islamists to the Yanks, open up a bit, and we’ll back you all the way – there would still be the Syrian secular state, with its first professional middle class, it’s superb education programme., and it GDP rising way faster than ours was.

Now – Syria is a thing of the past. All because our leaders can’t think straight. Twunts

  7. DAILY MAIL – [ Afzal Amin, ] the Tory Election candidate exposed for plotting with far-Right extremists to stir up racial hatred is a former member of a fanatical Islamic sect that believes the Nazis were misunderstood and that Jews control the world.

[…]Two years later, a book crediting him as author Raja Afzal Raza Amin al-Quraishy, was published in which he criticised the Murabitun and called for jihadi warriors to establish a Muslim state in Europe.

Amin says his words were doctored to include the extremist views, which he yesterday described as ‘disgusting’.

In the pamphlet Amin – described last week by a colleague as a ‘Walter Mitty character’ – demeans women and calls for restaurants that serve alcohol to be burned.

[…]So why DID the Tories let him stand for a seat?

Serious questions were raised last night over the vetting process which put Afzal Amin on Tory Central Office’s ‘approved list’ of candidates.

Calls for a review came from the leader of his local constituency association, who said Dudley North had been saddled with a ‘complete maverick’.
