2. Ebola: US evacuates 10 aid workers from Sierra Leone

On Friday it was announced that a US aid worker back from Sierra Leone had tested positive and was being treated in hospital near Washington DC.

The evacuees may have been in contact with the Ebola patient and are being flown back on non-commercial transport.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said none were currently showing Ebola symptoms.

They will stay in voluntary isolation for a 21-day incubation period. If any start to show symptoms they will be taken to one of three hospitals which are equipped to deal with Ebola cases.

3. Russia Was Ready for Crimea Nuclear Standoff, Putin Says

“We were ready to do that,” Putin said when asked in a documentary film about Russia’s takeover of Crimea aired Sunday on state television if the Kremlin had been prepared to place its nuclear forces on alert. The Russian leader said he warned the U.S. and Europe not to get involved, accusing them of engineering the ouster of Russian-backed Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. “That’s why I think no one wanted to start a world conflict.”

7. Saudi nuclear deal raises stakes for Iran talks

WASHINGTON — As U.S. and Iranian diplomats inched toward progress on Tehran’s nuclear program last week, Saudi Arabia quietly signed its own nuclear-cooperation agreement with South Korea.

That agreement, along with recent comments from Saudi officials and royals, is raising concerns on Capitol Hill and among U.S. allies that a deal with Iran, rather than stanching the spread of nuclear technologies, risks fueling it.

Saudi Arabia’s former intelligence chief, Prince Turki al-Faisal, a member of the royal family, has publicly warned in recent months that Riyadh will seek to match the nuclear capabilities Iran is allowed to maintain as part of any final agreement reached with world powers. This could include the ability to enrich uranium and to harvest the weapons-grade plutonium discharged in a nuclear reactor’s spent fuel.

Several U.S. and Arab officials have voiced concerns about a possible nuclear-arms race erupting in the Middle East, spurred on by Saudi Arabia’s regional rivalry with Iran, which has been playing out in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen in recent months.

  1. 6/ This show is called ‘Sunday Scrum?’ It’s a Wednesday afternoon hen party. But it isn’t enough to have the sort of numbingly tedious unhistorical and context-free gossip that helps advance the Islamic supremacist agenda by boring Canadians into submission, the CBC also has to make some positive propaganda on behalf of the ‘harmless community’ of Mecca-stage settlers. Any dhimmi Canadian who prefers this to the Rebel.Media is already willingly submitting and with masochistic perversity feeling himself subdued.

    • I LOVE Rebel.media! Of course I liked Sun News much better as they had more money to pursue stories I was interested in.
I sent them several fins to get Ezra out of the cold…
He is still standing out there.
Probably needs to buy a new stapler or something.

  2. Australian counter-terror police ‘stopping 400 per day’ (BBC, March 16, 2015)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-31900876

“Australian police are stopping hundreds of people every day at airports in an attempt to prevent would-be jihadists leaving the country.

A new counter-terror unit conducted nearly 76,000 “real-time” stops – more than 400 per day – at eight airports between August and February.

The screenings are not random. Counter-terror police are targeting potentially suspicious travellers.

Around 90 Australians are believed to be fighting in the Middle East.

The Border Force Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) is a new unit designed to tackle extremists attempting to leave the country and join terror groups such as Islamic State (IS).

A spokesman for Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said the CTU teams had “successfully intercepted a number of people of national security concern” since August…”

    • Back to Sun News… There was a frequent guest on that channel that insisted that Canada allow people to leave the country for jihad BUT NOT LET THEM RE-ENTER CANADA. The last report I saw of him he was practically screaming!

I think his name is Farek Nahab… (sorry if I got it wrong) but, he thought that anyone that wanted to leave Canada should be allowed to go and their passports confiscated..,.

      I agree with him.

I’ll go one step further; those that leave Canada for the jihad should also have their family members deported…

  3. Iraq conflict: Saddam’s tomb destroyed in Tikrit fighting (BBC, March 16, 2015)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-31901568

“The tomb of ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein has been almost completely levelled in fighting near Tikrit.

Footage filmed by the Associated Press shows that all that remains standing of the once-lavish mausoleum in the village of al-Awja are some pillars.

Iraqi forces and Iranian-backed Shia militia are battling to drive Islamic State (IS) militants from Tikrit.

Last year, the local Sunni population said they had removed Saddam’s body and taken it to an unknown location.

The capture of the tomb came as fighting intensified north and south of Tikrit on Sunday as Iraqi security forces vowed to reach the city centre within 48 hours….”

  4. Blair ‘steps back’ from Middle East peace role amid claims he has ‘no credibility in the region’
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2996113/Blair-steps-Middle-East-peace-role-amid-claims-no-credibility-region.html

“Tony Blair is to step back from his role as Middle East peace envoy, it was reported last night.

The former Labour leader has been the envoy for the Middle East Quartet peace negotiators – the UN, the EU, Russia and the US – since he quit as Prime Minister in 2007.

But the Financial Times said he was planning to ‘step back’ from the job, in a move which could be announced later this week.

He is apparently embarking on negotiations to ‘recast’ his role while remaining involved in the peace process….”

  5. At least 18 dead in bombing raids in Syria, monitoring group says (CNN, March 15, 2015)
    http://edition.cnn.com/2015/03/15/middleeast/syria-bombing-deaths/index.html

“Bombing raids Sunday in the suburbs of Damascus killed at least 18 people — with that number expected to rise as scores more are treated for injuries, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The London-based monitoring group said the bombings were dropped by warplanes from the embattled regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. There was no immediate comment Sunday from al-Assad’s government.

More than 100 people were injured, including women and children, the organization said. It added that the bombings continued into areas on the outskirts of the neighboring city of Douma.

Also Sunday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights released its latest count of how many people have died during the past four years as the country’s civil war has raged on.

The group said there have been 215,518 deaths since the uprising started in March of 2011, including more than 10,800 children.

A total of 102,831 civilians have died in the war, along with 36,722 rebel fighters and 46,138 government soldiers, the organization said, citing a new report.

The report also said more than 1.5 million Syrians have been seriously wounded in the war, many suffering permanent disabilities. And more than half of all Syrians have been displaced from their homes and communities over the past four years, the group said.”

  6. Iran ex-leader Rafsanjani’s son ‘jailed for 15 years’ (BBC, March 15, 2015)
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-31899684

“The son of former Iranian President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has been imprisoned by a court in Tehran.

State media said Mehdi Hashemi Rafsanjani had been convicted of security offences and financial crimes.

He was accused of inciting unrest after Iran’s disputed elections in 2009 and was arrested on his return from exile in the UK in 2012.

Unofficial reports say the sentence is 15 years although this has not been confirmed.

Mehdi Hashemi has 20 days to appeal against the sentence, a judicial official said. The sentence is also said to include an undisclosed fine and a ban from holding public office.

He went on trial last August at Iran’s Revolutionary Court, which usually hears cases involving security offences. His trial was held behind closed doors so the exact charges are unknown.”

  7. @ 4 – The discovery of Saudi and Yemeni weapons in an area liberated from ISIS is trouble because Saudi and Yemen are suppose to be against ISIS, The Saudi like could be some member of the Royal family supporting ISIS and allowing Saudi weapons to be delivered to them but it if was a large amount of weapons it is more probable that Saudi is trying to buy off ISIS.

The Yemeni weapons are in some ways more troubling since the current government of Yemen is allied to Iran, large numbers of Yemeni weapons begs the question was Iran involved in the transfer and if you what are the Yemenis up to?

    • The more I think about it the more sense the first possibility makes, the Whabbists (sp?) and the MB are close allies, it makes sense for the fundamentalist Saudi’s to give aid to ISIS and to do so quietly so they can say to the rest of the world that they opposing ISIS.

A possibility for the presence of the Yemeni weapons is that they were seized by some group or arms dealer during the coup and were purchased by some nation or group that wants to help ISIS but doesn’t want any direct links to their home nation.

  8. Putin is playing hard ball for high stakes, while he was willing to go head to head with Europe and the US we don’t know where his backdown point (if he had one) was. Remember during the Cuban missile crisis Russia bluffed Kennedy into taking the US missiles out of Turkey. Moscow had no intention of putting nuclear warheads in Cuba, in fact the considered Castro to be a very dangerous loose cannon who was not to be trusted. If anything their analysis is a massive understatement.
